Ghostbusters: Japan

EPISODE 7: ANTI-VIRAL VIDEOS

Last episode you talked to Star's new associates and disapproved of their lifestyle and recreational choices. You showed dismay at some of their more zealous members were thinking about expanding their social circles. You also interrupted a meeting between the members and the club founder.

A brief discussion about neighborly behavior was had with P-COC Field Agent, Yasuo. You were fined.

Also, you found a rock.
- - -
You wake up and head out from your office/bedroom to the mixing floor/war room of the Factory.

War room is the right term. The table is covered with pictures, printouts, and the Crazy Journals of the zealots of the Ringer Cult.

"Good morning." Star says, handing you a paper cup of horrific, coffee-flavored, hot liquid. "I never said thank you for saving me from those whack-jobs, did I?" She smiles at you. "Thanks Daisuke."

"No problem." You say. "We're Ghostbusters, all for one and stuff, right?"

"Totally." She nods. "Oh, and Sachiko's back from the hospital." She hands you a small scroll. "This was tied to the arrow she shot into our sign. Only three, today! She must still be feeling weak."

You unroll it. - Thank you for your assistance. Please rethink your misguided attempts before you inadvertently cause more suffering. Also, the one who rescued me is invited to tea. -

"Made a friend?" Sato asks, sitting at the table, slurping ramen. "Well as the ancients say, 'One Cannot Get Too Close To A Woman Who Communicates with Arrows.' Or something like that."

"Either way." Akria says, rowing an iced coffee. "We're on Day 2 before a lot of people die, or worse."

"Are we on Day 2?" Star asks. "Because we may still be on Day 1. The film was shown in the evening."

"Either way." Akira said. "We've got a time limit, so let's hit the ground running."

"Agreed." You say. "Let's..."

You told Agent Yasuo about it and he took it seriously and wrote down the information. Any more than that is outside of your knowledge. So you don't know if Lady Une did anything about it, what P-COC's reaction will be, or if it's going to be a help or hinderance.

"Alright, we're supposed to be a global organization, right?" You say. "A collective, dedicated to sharing with each other."

"Everything except money." Akira says.

"Right, so hopefully by putting our heads together we can figure out SOMETHING." You say.

"Yeah, but do we have anything to start with?" Star asks.

"Well, we have that suggestion your ghost girl gave you." Sato says. "And I've been reading Crazy Girl's ramblings. The spirit in question is named Sadako...the girl at least. No idea about the small pox entity that's merged with her."

"That say anything else?" Akira asks as he sets up the conference call.

"Well...it kind of goes weird. Sadako has multiple pasts according to this. She's killed by her mother, her lover, herself. She's a witch, she's a girl, she's a hermaphrodite. She worked in a circus, she was a student, she was locked in a barn...it's all over the place. It switches to English for a bit and then back to Japanese as well." He shrugs.

"That could be the Oiwa connection. Or multiple ghosts merged into the Sadako myth." Star says. She taps the handbook. "Or it could have something to do with the Smallpox entity."

"Yeah, about that...any way we could get like, I dunno anti-virals or something like that?" You ask.

"I doubt a clinic is going to just hand out stuff like that to people who come up and ask." Akira says. "Okay...request sent...and now let's see who's available."

"Don't forget about the rock!" Sato says.

"Right." You nod. "Never ignore a significant Rock."

Hey GM, is this Post-The Game? Does that mean the Rookie is no longer the Rookie anymore?
Gasp! Does that mean we might get the Rookie to show up with advice?
>>
>>2880538
This is post everything.
Rookie was offered his own branch, not sure if he accepted but he appears in the comic series that's going on right now.

Meanwhile Louis coordinates the different branches of America or on an international level according to the RPG.
>>
>>28805436
I thought Rookie and the Chevy Chase base character became Chicago after the events of New Ghostbusters.
>>
>>28805381
Yup, he's in Chicago.
LA is Sanctum of Slime

GB: LA are unavailable...which is fine because you're still upset at Bridget. LA's keeping them busy, and apparently P-COC is giving them a lot more grief than normal. Something to do with a law firm over there giving P-COC trouble...eh, not your problem.

GB: London is also unavailable, apparently they've gotten into a bit of a 'tiff with this bitch and a tosser in red!' whatever THAT means. Either way, not your worry.

Still, Dr. Spengler, Dr. Griffin, and the 'Chicago Rookie' are up and available for consult.

"Very well." Dr. Spengler says. (He's also translating via text so the other two don't have to mangle Japanese, or you English.) "So the first issue of discussion is if we're going to operate on the premise that you received accurate information from the bisected entity."

"Huh?"

"Do you trust the little girl told you the truth, and are we going with her 'sever the connection' plan?" Dr. Griffin responds.

> I trust her, and it's not like we have a better plan.

I think they did
>>
>>28805553
Severing the connection has been standard practice for ages.
It's what took down Gozer the first time, vigo, and a bunch of others the GB extreme have encountered.

I'm not sure if I trust her, be we should definitely sever the connection
>>
>>28805553
>> I trust her, but we should still come up with a plan B.
>> I know Sadako is the Disease, and the Cult is a symptom...but we NEED to deal with the Cult.
A peaceful/helpful aspect to a personality it possible, especially if she's the manifestation of normal Sadako. It's worth at least looking into her plan to see if it holds weight. Even if it does, coming up with a Plan B beyond "cook it!" and "crossing the streams" would be nice.

And we need to snip the cult off asap, no use trying to cut off Sadako if they're running around infecting shit and gaining her power. But then, busting her might be the deathblow for the cult if it doesn't jump to one of the other Ring ghosts, or another Ghost entirely.
>>
>>28805553
>> I trust her, and it's not like we have a better plan.
>>
>>28805679
Supporting,
though throwing in an inquiry about case files of sealing off demi planes once we separate them; maybe trap the smallpox entity in the well world it it's too dangerous an entity to contain terrestrially.
>>
>>28805719
Normally, destroying the connection effectively is sealing them in their realm.
Nuclear explosions have almost always done the trick, can't think of instances where it hasn't worked, but if we can just shut the lid on the thing that's much more preferable
>>
>>28805679
We should also take Sachiko up on her offer of Tea Time. She might have an insight into this situation as well, and it'll be good to give her a heads up on the whole Small Pox Ghost shit that's going down.

"I trust her, and it's not like we have a better plan." You say.

"Alright. So it seems we have two goals that must be done near simultaneously." Dr. Spengler says.

"You need an Assault Team and a Demolition Team." Rookie says. (You don't know his real name, but his 'handle' is that and despite his efforts, it's stuck)

"Yeah, getting the Ghost to attack us and make her mad enough to draw her forces shouldn't be too hard." Star says. "But that second part sounds like a bitch."

"Well," Dr. Griffin chimes in. "There's two options, both are pretty awful. One is that you find a way to close and seal the portal that Sadako uses, RIGHT as soon as she emerges."

"That's the safest, but the most technically difficult." Dr. Spengler says.

"Second, I think would be to sever the connection on the other side, in that 'Well World' of hers." Dr. Griffin continues.

"Easier to do, provided the Assault Team is keeping her busy, but that has someone going inside the realm." Rookie says.

"And of course, there's the third Terrible Option." Dr. Griffin says.

"Which is?"

"Break Rule One."

A pause. Dr. Spengler nods. "A Protonic Reversal, as long as it's within the Ghost's realm WOULD be the most effective way to sever the connection. And it can be done on either side."

"Do a reversal WITHIN a Ghost's Realm?" Rookie asks.

"Well, the difference is that..." Dr. Spengler goes on for about three minutes, mentioning 'resonances with familial planes' 'Flesh Faraday Cages' and 'Translocation' which comes out to 'Ghostbuster will probably be fine...probably.'

"Hold on though." Dr. Griffin says. "I thought of a snag. If you do that, what about any consciousnesses that are trapped by the entity?"

Dr. Spengler pauses for a moment and then nods. "They'd be dispersed to atoms."

"This sounds like we're approaching Theologic ground." Rookie says.

"Agreed." Says Dr. Spengler. "But their existence within that realm must be one of agony as the Entity feeds upon them."

Nah, pretty sure they'd not have anything nice to say about that. Dissipation of souls.
In any event it isn't the first time GB have done that, and I bet it won't be the last. What's more were putting these souls out of their misery.

And personally, I think wed be sending them to the afterlife that way.
>>
>>28806401
> We'll send someone to wreck her place.
>>
"Well...I'm okay with wrecking her place, but why don't we just go in there and face her and then break Rule One?" You say.

"She'd escape." Rookie, Dr. Spengler, and Dr. Griffin say.

"Especially with that Cult active to continue to feed her." Dr. Griffin says. "She'd be out of commission for a while, years maybe, but she'd still be able to hurt people, and then we're back to where we started."

"Unfortunately she's right." Dr. Spengler says. "Also, you have to do it before the deadline. Otherwise,"

"She'll have split herself as she kills all the movie goers." Star says. "Damn."

"Alright, well...I still like the idea of taking out her place. Let's leave Rule One as a backup."

"Alright, you can either..." Dr. Spengler goes into a long tech-speak again.

"So, a bomb or a charged PKE Disruptor Pylon Array." Dr. Griffin says. "Bomb's easier and quicker, but if it's not done right...you're screwed. Pylons take a bit, but the Assault Team's going to have to work overtime."

"And with one of our people out...that's gonna be tough." Sato says.

"Not...necessarily." Says the Rookie. "You've got a Mascot, there right? A free-floating entity?"

"You mean Yurei?" You ask.

"Yeah. She could set off the Device. It'd scratch Rule One as an option but it'd work." Rookie says.

You look at the Chyme that's on the Table. You see Yurei give you a thumbs up. Looks like she's eager to help.

Akria scowls and shakes his head. "I'm sorry, I'm not trusting ANYTHING to a Ghost. Yurei stays in her Chyme. That's the deal."

> Grow up Akira. Yurei's part of the team.
> We'll set up a bomb.
> Guess we need some more Pylons.
> Other
>>
>>28807258
Well akira. This plan is already on the assumption of trusting one ghost, and Yurei is the most trustworthy we know so far.
Still, ghosts can be possessed or eaten by other ghosts so it's a risk on her part. Let alone the possibility we might have to nuke the place, which is an unknown in terms of what it does philosophically\theologically.
She's putting herself on the line too.

Always a good idea to have backups, so let's bring her along as one.

In theory, considering the Ghostbusters didn't come back butt naked when they translocated from Shandors realm back to us, and came back with all gear included, we can get her to hide back in her chyme and still enact protonic reversal as a final failsafe.
>>
>>28807258

>Anyway we can combine the options as a fail-safe? Bombs and pylons?

Short answer is no. Getting just one of these things operational is going to take resources and time, both would put you over your deadline. Even if you all worked non-stop.
>>
>>28807747
Yes, of a quasi nuclear nature.
The ghost bomb on the GB extreme show for instance could vaporize any entities within a 50 yard radius.

A regular nuke could work too, but good luck getting your hands on one of those.

"Grow up Akira, Yurei's part of the team." You say.

"I'm sorry." Akira says. "But I am the one who's name is on the paperwork. That means I get the final say and..."

"Dude." Sato says. "Yurei is okay. She's not...look she's okay."

Akira sighs and nods. "Fine. Okay. I get it. I get it. Don't be blinded...but you KNOW things can go south VERY quickly. And I DON'T have to be HAPPY about it." He storms off. "I'm going to go ride Musashi for a bit. I'll be back and...yeah I'll be back." He shouts over his shoulder.

Star looks at you and shrugs. "Akira has some stuff in the past."

"What?" You ask.

"Umm...personal family stuff...it's not our place to tell you. Ask him...maybe when he's in a better mood." Sato says. "So...Yurei's going in...well that makes a few parts easier...what's she using?"

"The Pylons." You say. "We know how to make them, and all we need to do is not get our asses kicked."

"And we have SUCH a great track record for that." Star says.

"Alright, we'll pick the spot, lure her in...and them Yurei cuts off her escape route, we trap her, and everyone goes home happy." Sato says.

"Sounds like a plan." Dr. Griffin says. "Dr. Spengler and I will work on the Resonance Frequencies so they'll be ready for you."

"Anything else you think we need to discuss before going ahead with the project?" Rookie asks.

> Anything?
>>

How to de-posses someone.
Oh yes, and the car mounted slime cannon.
>>
>>28808154
Active depossession is simple. Slime.

It's the dormant/hidden ones that are a pain. PKE meter won't detect them. Shandor hide in front of the Ghostbusters right in their faces, pke meters and all, just by possessing the mayor. Slime should still work, but unless you plan on asking all of Tokyo to take a slime bath...

There's also traditional exorcisms. Just contact your local shaman or priest I suppose.

Oh yeah and upgrades for the Yumi. The super slimer hose or the super slammer muon trap.
>>
>>28808154
>How to de-posses someone.

"Thank you very much, everyone." You say.

"This was very helpful." Dr. Spengler says. "We should do this more often."

"Agreed." Rookie and Dr. Griffin say.

"We'll have the right Frequencies for you as soon as possible." Dr. Griffin says.

"And I have a Tea Date." You say. "Wish me luck."

The others wave you off as you go across the street and walk up the steps. You pull on the rope to the bell chime. After a moment, Sachiko opens the door.

She's not dressed in her Miko outfit, which is a little surprising. A simple t-shirt that has some old J-Pop star on it. (It looks like she got it out of a bargain bin...which is probably the truth.) And a sensible plain, kaki skirt, finish the look with some cheap beat up sneakers, and you have a classic 'Does not care, and has no budget' outfit. Still, with her long single braid, and very toned body, it works for her. Now that she's upright, you notice that she's tall, maybe only half-an-inch shorter than you are. You consider yourself on the tall side. So...she must be...what 5' 6''?

"Come in." She says.

"You're not in your robes." You say.

"Not doing services today." She says. "Also, laundry day." She leads you into the temple and into a room, where there's a table and tea set up for three people.

There's a woman sitting there, everything about her, dress, hair, makeup, says 'OL.'

"So I take it this isn't just a friendly thank-you, is it?" You say.

"Sit." She says. "This is Yumi."

"Yumi...?" You ask, as you sit down.

"JUST Yumi." She nods at the woman. "It's okay. You can talk to him."

"If you're having ghost problems, we're just across the street." You say.

"Despite what you may think." Sachiko says. "Some people still think it is shameful to be seen conversing with con-artists."

"We're not..."

"Quiet." Sachiko snaps as she sits down and pours 'Yumi' some tea. "At your leisure, don't worry...this man is decent, and he will hold his tongue."

You notice then that Yumi's been crying recently.
>>

How bad of an idea is fighting a 50 foot Sadako?

What follows next are some of the most painful minutes of your life as Yumi tries to talk, but backs away or blushes or almost sobs again.

You look at Sachiko for help.

The miko sighs and looks to the heavens. "Ghostbuster...do you know what an ikiryo is?"

> Of course I do...but maybe you should tell Yumi.
> I think I was sick that day of training.
> A ghost?

Ikiryo?
I could go into the mechanics of psychomagnotheric will manifestation and psionic identity replication.

But the jist of it is someone really doesn't like another so a shade or part of their soul haunts that person while the hater is still alive. Suspected to be done by those with latent pisionic abilities, erm, people with powerful minds.

It's apparently very taxing on the one doing it.
>>
>>28809342
So it's being SUCH a hater that you begin to hate someone to death?
>>
>>28809435
Pretty much.
Gotta be careful though, if the ikiryo separates from your body completely you die. Probably because you basically put all your soul into it.
>>
>>28809142
"Someone having an out of body experience?" You say.

Sachiko narrows her eyes. "Is the extent of your lauded organization's research a wikipedia search?" She says. "It's a spirit of a still living person." She looks at Yumi. "Yumi believes that...she was attacked by one."

Yumi nods.

"Okay..." You say. "Still not sure how this involves me, and I have some questions for you anyway."

"Yumi believed that it was initially a ghost, but other mikes were unable to find any trace of spiritual presence." Sachiko says. "And from my interview with her." She refills Yumi's cup. "I think it's an ikiryo, NOT a spirit. I want YOU to find them, and dispatch them."

"What?" You say. "Why us?"

"Because..." Sachiko swallows. "I am the only one who believes Yumi, I think there have been more incidents, and..." She sighs. "I seem to be at a loss in my own efforts."

"So, you couldn't help."

"I AM helping, I got YOU." She says. "You have your gadgets and Science and such. Help her."

"Umm...have you also considered the police?" You ask. You have a very very bad feeling about this whole situation, and you really don't want it confirmed.

"She can't GO to the police because...because she just CAN'T." Sachiko says.

You sigh. No getting out of this one...not without an arrow in the head. "Alright. But we're on an urgent case right now." You say. "But we'll deal with it."

You look at Yumi. Ohhh, there is NO right way to handle this.

"Umm...can you tall me anything?" You ask.

"There was one thing." Yumi says softly.

"It's okay, take it easy...no one's rushing or shouting for answers." You say.

"It sang Italian Opera."

"WHAT?!" You say a little too loudly, and then catch yourself.

Yumi nods. "It would...talk to someone that wasn't there...strange things about Peacocks and Slimy Dishes." She sniffs. "And then it would sing Italian Opera when..." She shakes her head. "When it attacked me." She hums the first bars of the opening number of 'The Marriage of Figaro.' "That."
>>
>>28809513
"That's why I think this is an ikiryo, and not a spirit or her mind." Sachiko says. "Yumi turned to me in desperation...and so..." She gestures to you.

"Alright." You say. "We'll look into it." The comment about talking about Peacocks and Slimy Dishes...

"Yumi? When was this?" You ask.

"Last month, middle of the week." She says.

Yep, that's the right timing for the Seto Taisho attack.

Fuck.

"Thank you Yumi." You say. "We'll be in touch, until then stay with Sachiko." You get up and motion with your head for Sachiko to follow she does so.

"You're taking the case?" She says.

"Of course." You say. "You're footing expenses?"

"...fine." She says. "Now, what's so important that this can't take priority?"

"The lives of about 30 people and countless souls." You say. "You ever hear of a cursed video tape? Or Sadako?"

Her eyebrows go up and then she frowns. "If you die before you help Yumi, I will summon your soul up from the void and trap you within my target dummy...and I will use flaming arrows."

"Fine." You say. "I had no intention of dying anyway."

"However," She says with a sigh. "I think I now can understand why you needed to see me. Alright, ask your questions."
>>
>>28809513

The leaders thought it was just pocus and used it to attract females to solicit sex from them. Turns out this "Lady of the Tape" became more real than they imagined.

So now we've got hundreds of people with potential dormant infections. On top of that there's the ghost of the smallpox disease either working with the ghost or is the ghost itself and...well, it's a long story.

>>
>>28809634
Might want to inform Sachiko about the Seto Taisho attack happening about the same time as the ikiryo attack. Also, the next day, she got stung by bees and went into anaphylactic shock. Seems a bit suspicious to me.

Also, about our questions, will destroying any souls fed upon by an evil entity to sub-atomic particles be alright, according to you at least.

Right. Unless someone can pull some "power of love and friendship" miracle out of their ass to send them off to the great wherever, oblivion might be the best we can offer.

And again, oblivion may very well be the afterlife itself.

>>
>>28809823
You tell her the whole story. The attack in Miyagi's, the Cult, Sadako, and your plan. She takes it all in with quiet intensity.

"So about the ikiryo," You ask. "How did it...attack her? Could she see it, or only hear it in her head?" You ask.

"As far as I could get out of the poor girl, it was like invisible hands gripping her, a thick smell of cigarettes, and the opera." She says. "I don't know how this is going to end, but you have to make sure that it ends...and that Yumi's name is NOWHERE in it." She says. "I'll also need to borrow your horse."

"Well, it's not my horse." You say. "Why?"

"Pictures of a woman upon a horse can answer some questions to a sufficient enough degree." Sachiko says. "Leave it at that."

You nod. "Alright, now...how do you feel about those souls?"

She shakes her head. "Any form of release would be welcome, however, if you want to grant those spirits any form of happiness, then you'll free them. If not..." She shrugs. "We live in an unpleasant world, with unpleasant lives, a peaceful death of oblivion is a blessing."

"You're just a bundle of cheer, aren't you?" You say.

She shrugs. "This is not a world that rewards the kind, or the noble. You should know that as much as I." She pauses. "I met Yumi in the hospital, so maybe there's a thing such as luck."

"Alright, one last question." You say. "Do you know how to make Sadako so amazingly spitting-nails piss-angry at us that she hares to attack us immediately?"

She looks at you and laughs. "Oh...oh I have JUST the thing." She pauses. "Do you have something of hers? Specifically of her clothing, or a scrap of hair, or her home?"

"I've got a rock." You say.

"A ro-...never mind." She takes you back inside and she makes a hanafuda seal. "Here. Attach it to her personal effect, and then burn it. THAT'D get ANY spirit running towards you, DAMN fast."

"What is it?" You ask.

"Datsue-ba's 'blessing.' It's a little joke seal I came up with when I was in training." Sachiko says.

"Datsue-ba is the hag who weighs your sins from your clothes when you stand before the Lords of Hell." She says. "By burning that seal, you are stripping away some of the sins and souls gathered by the wicked, and sending them to Datsue-ba. Letting Hell know that you are wicked, and that they should be readying something horrid just for you." She grins. "I figure that'd be enough to piss off any spirit."

"And you just...made this up?" You say.

"Yes." She nods. "But it'll work."

"How do you know?"

"Same way your light show works." She says. "Same way people get up in the morning and do their soul deadening jobs. Same reason ANYTHING works in this world...because we believe it to be so." She nods at the seal in your hands. "I have no doubt in my mind, body, or soul, that when you burn that seal, Sadako will come to hurt you."

"You just like that image, don't you?"

She nods. "Remember, if you die, you become my new pincushion."

"Gee thanks." You say as you turn to leave.

Sachiko puts a hand on your shoulder, and you turn. She smiles at you.

"Thank you, Ghostbus..." She pauses. "I don't know your name. The TV never named you in person."

"Daisuke." You say.

"Daisuke..." She nods. "Thank you, Daisuke." She smiles an honest smile at you. "When this new hope in me dies...I will surely beat you to a pulp."

You leave the crazy tsun-tsun miko in the fraying sneakers, and go back to the OTHER den of craziness across the street.

Sato is working on converting a giant pile of metal chopsticks into a single unit, using superglue and wire.

Akira is working with a small mini-electronic keyboard, tied to the computer.

You'll be ready to face Sadako in 4 days.

> Each element of the attack can be bolstered. You can spend a day improving the Pylon (Machine charges blasts faster), getting the Frequency right (Blasts do more Damage to the Connection), training Yurei (She'll be able to set up the whole array faster), training yourself (bonuses for the fight), or something else.

> Pylon, Frequency, and Yurei each get 1 point every day.

> Your help adds 1 point. You can also try and go for an additional 1d6 points. (Ghost Rolls will nullify your entire bonus, so the activity will receive just the standard 1 point.)

By adjusting the variance in the proton stream to a finer degree, you cause the 'wobble' effect seen by the naked eye to lessen, making the beam more accurate. This is inadvisable going up against multiple spectral entities, or unknown ones, as it could cause the beam to have no effect at all, but you have enough data on Sadako to nail her frequency down.

HA! Okay NOW you've got it DOWN. Especially since you have the bright idea of comparing the Beam Variance to the Frequency. That idea caused Dr. Spengler to talk for a while about stuff that went WAY over your head, (But Akira got it) and voila. Now you've got something that'll rattle the walls but GOOD.

AND SO, THE DAY HAS COME

> Yurei plants the first Pylon automatically, then she'll need 3 rounds to set the next (Three rounds to reach 10). The Pylons let off a charge every round, doing 10 points of Damage to Sadako's realm.

> If all goes according to plan, Sadako will be cut off from her realm and her infinite power source in 7 turns.

So, where are you going to face her?

> An abandoned lot in the Reject Zone (Empty and small...but near civilians)
> The parking lot where the Truckers park overnight (Large, but has some debris and other possible reflective surfaces, but clear of people)
> Inside the Dumpling factory (Very small and LOTS of reflective metal, but its your turf)
> Sachiko's Temple grounds (Holy site, medium sized, water, reflective items, and Sachiko has a TV. Sachiko and Yumi will vacate the premises and she WILL bill you for damages.)
>>

"Yeah." Star says. "I sent the forms in today...like ten minutes ago."

"So by the time they get it, we'll already have this done...or be dead." Sato says.

You hold the rock carefully. You checked, the thing is dripping with Sadako's PKE signature. You aren't sure HOW the junkie cult got it, but you think it's a stone from her well, when it existed in the real world.

"So," Star says fiddling with the Chyme and Yurei. "I have just one question. One truly important question..."

"Got it!" Star says.

The four of you pull your wands and charge up.

"What are we gonna try?" Sato asks.

"Anything that has us not die." Akira said. "Light it, Daisuke."

You slap Sachiko's charm on the rock and then, using a lighter wand, set it on fire.

Almost instantly the screen pops to life showing static.

"It worked!" Star says.

"Of course it worked. Sachiko hates us...kinda...but she IS a professional." You say.

The screen changes to the picture of the Well...and slowly you see the girl climb out...and stagger forwards towards the screen. Closer...and closer...

You feel the hairs on the back of your neck rise up.

"Why do ghosts move so slow, and do the whole hallucinations and terror thing anyway?" Star asks.

"It makes it easier to kill humans and makes their ghost selves more...I guess juicy or ripe would be the right words." Sato says. "Like stuffing and basting a turkey...of fear."

"Ah." Star says.

Sadako falls to her hands as she steps out of the screen and onto the parking lot. She doesn't notice the Chyme and the long silver poles place on top of the screen, or how the shot of the well now shows a young school girl running around the area, or how the poles vanish.

"Alright...HIT IT!" You shout.

AC/DC starts to blare and Sadako stands, black energy crackling from her hands, water dripping from her hair, and a gaze of hate in her visible eye

Your beam hits her, again the energy crackles all over her body and she has to wave it away again. It really looks like she's a girl dealing with flies and the occasional snow flurry.

Speaking of snow flurry, Akira and Star unleash the Stasis Beams.
>>
Rolled 13

>>28814240
Sadako is looking supremely annoyed now. She's had to focus all of her energy to force the stasis away.

The screen skips again.

Sato shoots at the bitch with a proton stream
>>
>>28814292
Again he nails her, she swats away more of the little red sparks.

The video skips again

Your turn.

Pylon Charge: 90%
>>
>>28814240
I'm kind of picturing sadako going "seriously, guys, really, stop it, it's not funny, guys, GUYS," while slapping the beams and streams

I might have that drawn next week, maybe.

>>28814316
Stasis
>>
>>28814316
Daisuke! Use Stasis Beam!
Possibly also throw the rock at her for spite.
>>
>>28814316
Boson dart. Might as well finish with a bang.
>>
Rolled 8

>>28814316
Taunting. Possibly making fun of smallpox. An insulting adjective, a demeaning adverb...

Oh. And Lasers. Preferably Proton.
>>
>>28814345
That's actually EXACTLY what's happening. She's honestly just really REALLY annoyed...and the music isn't helping either.

Her attitude is 'You're SUPPOSED to be COWERING! You're DOING this WRONG.'

>>28814348
>>28814345

Stasis beam it is.

Rolled 7

So hey, if we don't cower and we die, does that mean our souls don't taste as good?

Rolled 6

Now with extra tsun
>>
Rolled 20, 2 = 22

>>28814402
Your beam just veers off and crackles away from the aura around her.

Akira and Star shoot at her with stasis.
>>
>>28814459
Okay, Akira's definatly not the one paying for beer after this.
>>
Rolled 20

>>28814459
Akira times it just right so that when she gestures with her hands to wave Star's shot away he shoots and the crystals fuse her hands together...for about three seconds. Before she forces them apart.

Still it seems to have been enough to keep her occupied.

Sato unleashes with a proton beam
>>
>>28814513
It's a thing of beauty that goes down to timing by way of half-seconds.

.5, You see Yurei's form leap out of the TV and back into her Chyme

1.0 Sato fires his proton beam at a perfect shot at Sadako's eye.

1.5 The Pylon Array goes off...and the TV screen explodes.

2.0 Sadako tries to brush it off...and finds that her energy is all but gone.

2.5 Beam impacts

3.0 Sadako howls in pain and agony, clutching her eye.

Your turn.

She's ALL yours now.
>>
>>28814573
That aura? Gone.
The feeling of primal fear and menace? Gone.
The hissing sound of all that slime dissolving off of her? Gone.

You still feel like shit though.
>>
>>28814600
slime her

gigidy gigidy
>>
>>28814573

Time to trap the bugger. Smack her again while one of our friends gets the trap.
>>
>>28814600
Made HER feel like shit.
Slime time, bitch.
>>
>>28814573
Hey, she's flinching

BOSON DART

"Time to take your medicine bitch!" Akira says as you, he and Star all unleash slime upon the girl.

Rolled 13

Full coverage!
>>
>>28814670
The girl shrieks and drops to the ground in agony as she's completely covered in slime. Her skin bubbles and pops, her hair shrivels and her one open eye looks up at you all with only one question:

'HOW?'

The capture stream from Sato wraps around her, and she can barely move from the ground and the slime.

Akira tosses the trap.

"Bitch, you are CANCELLED!" Star shouts.

You press the remote. Sadako screams and writes a little, but she's too hurt, and in too much pain to fight the pull of that brilliant light.

The trap snaps shut...and Sadako of the Ring, The Ghost of the Cursed Tapes, is now busted.

A flare of light makes all of you turn.

You see a flurry of sparks, or little pinpricks of light flood out of the busted TV set, like a cloud of fireflies.

They float up out into the air and dissipate. You feel warm...like you just observed something beautiful and good. Like seeing a bunch of multi-colored birds fly free out into the jungle.

Weird...why did that analogy come to your mind first?

"Huh." Sato says.

That about sums it up nicely.

NEXT EPISODE: MAISON IKIRYO

"So...does that mean ghosts are now just going to be popping up like weeds?"
"Yup, and we're the gardeners and business is good."
"I thought we were exterminators."
"According to P-COC, we're the rats."
"Excuse me, are we just IGNORING the death threat?!"

"So...what? You go for Star's face and fashion?"
"Shut up."
"Sachiko's amazonian legs?"
"Shut. Up."
"Sana's glasses and laugh?"
"Shut up!"
"Or Nurse Reika's massive...bandages."
"WILL YOU SHUT UP AND LET ME SAVE YOUR LIFE SO I CAN KILL YOU?!"
"Look if you're gay, it's not a big deal."
"GHAAAA!"

"This place is crazy nice. Why'd it close?"
"Hell if I know. Looks like a restaurant, they close all the time."
"Well, I guess it's as safe a place as any to hide from crazy ass ghosts. And the First Night of the Lunar Conjunction starts..."
"Hey guys, I think I found the name of this place...it was called the 'House of Blue Leaves.' Why does that name sound familiar?"
"Now."
"Oh shit."

"Ghostbusters: Japan" is so far my favorite quest series from /tg/. Hell, it's about the only quest I've read with any regularity.
Sure hope saying that hasn't jinxed it somehow....
>>
>>28816606

The complete lack of 4s there says 'probably not'
>>
>>28810721
Maybe if we just believe atomized souls are in heaven, they are. Like catholicism.
Because if we really believe there's nothing after the death of the soul, it might make it true. And that's no better than atheism.
>>
>>28814819
Oh man, I fell asleep. Looks like everything worked out anyway. Though I think we need to get treated for Smallpox, unless that dissapates when we bust her...
Oh yeah, and I think keeping Sadako at our place is a bad idea with Thousand Moons coming up.
>>
>>28817073
>>They float up out into the air and dissipate. You feel warm...like you just observed something beautiful and good.
you might be closer to the the truth than you realize
>>
>>28817086
Relax. It's magical smallpox, the moment we busted her anyone who had it is cured.
That is, unless Sadako and the Smallpox ghost were indeed one and the same (or rather, one absorbed the other).
>>
>>28809008
I just noticed this.
>you notice that she's tall, maybe only half-an-inch shorter than you are
>You consider yourself on the tall side.
>So...she must be...what 5' 6''?
Which means we're 5'7". Are the Japanese really that short that they think that's tall?
6 feet master race
>>
>>28817621
Holy shit, six feet?

So is that six legs, or three feet per leg?
>>
>Fell asleep
>We busted the smallpox ghost overnight
DAMMIT

WE DIDN'T GET TO MAKE AN EDWARD JENNER PUN
>>
>>28817621
Could be worse.
You should see north koreans.

They can get like modern day hobbits
>>
>>28817673
we'll get the chance when the great alignment ends up releasing all the ghosts we've ever captured.
