You are Lieutenant RACHEL KELSEY, though pretty much everybody just calls you Red. Recently, your commanding officer, Captain Pierce, had been wounded in action and is currently recovering from his wounds.

However, the war doesn't stop for anybody, and for the past few days you and your fellow witches Janice and Tarin have been pressing forward without him, with Janice taking temporary command of the unit. Thankfully, Colonel Anderson was aware of the precarious position your unit was in and opted to give you fairly "easy" assignments. Just extraction missions relatively close to friendly lines, and with plenty of allied support. However, you couldn't help but feel that the potential of your unit was being wasted. At least the work was keeping your mind off the matter.

Things weren't so simple with Bree when Janice had to break the news to her. Bree nearly threw her desk out the window and required some physical restraint from Janice, Tarin, and a couple of her own witches. Suffice to say Bree was taking on an even bigger workload than ever to occupy herself. You and Janice were a bit worried.

Either way, you were due for another standby flight today, though this time you're on a later shift, so you've got quite a bit of free time for now.

You decide to go check up on Bree, see how she's doing. After all, she didn't exactly handle Pierce's wounding too well. However, as you come up to Bree's office, you see Count and L standing inside, trying to peek through a crack in the door.

"Hey guys, what's going on?" You ask as you approach.

"Shhhhh!" Count puts a finger to her lips. "Quiet, please!"

"What's going on?" You bring you voice down to a whisper.

"Bree's asleep." L says, pointing at the crack in the door. You peek inside and see that indeed, Bree was facedown on her desk, snoring loudly.

"First time we've seen her asleep in two days." L mumbles. "We thought it'd be best to let her get some rest.

"You're not on standby?" You blink.

"Even the brass noticed something was up, so they're cutting down on our workload." L shrugs. "I doubt the rest of the squadron would have been able to keep up with her any longer.

"Huh..."

Suddenly, the phone on Bree's desk starts ringing loudly, causing all three of you to jump in surprise. However, Bree doesn't even seem phased and keeps snoring.

"Should we...?" Count asks.

"Might be important." L nods. The girl quietly opens the door, tiptoes in, and lifts the phone off its receiver."

"Sorry, Major Pierce isn't available at the moment." L says. "Can I take a message?"

The witch stands there for a few seconds, nods, and silently hangs up the phone. She then tiptoes back to the hall and turns to you.

"That was the base hospital. They were calling to say your CO just woke up."

Arguably. We also put ourselves in danger to do, which caused the witches to put THEMSELVES in danger to get us out.

That's the part of random heroics that the movies always leave out. When you try to play the hero, and fail at it, everyone else has to risk their lives to save your ass.

Well, it almost didn't seem fair to let Bree sleep through this. You walk into Bree's office and start poking at her face.

"Bree. Breeeeeeee." You say. "Bree, wake up!"

However, Bree remains stubbornly asleep. Well, it looks like you had to pull out the big guns. Remembering a little trick Janice taught you, you pinch Bree's nose. The witch snorts and flails wildly before falling out of her chair.

"Gaaaah!" Bree shrieks. "What the hell is going on!?!?"

"Good morning to you too, Bree." You sigh, helping her back up to her feet. "We just got a call from the hospital. Cap just woke up."

"What?!" Bree's eyes widen. "That's wonderful!"

"Isn't it?"

"Yeah! Now I can go kill him again!" Bree nods as she storms out of the door, causing Count and L to shriek and seek cover. "I'll show him what happens when he scares his own sister to death!"

Here's the problem, chief. You know what you were "distracting"? A tankwitch is essentially a more mobile MBT that has a shield capable of blocking most tank rounds. You decided to aggro THAT. It was a dumb decision from the outset, and once you committed to it, there was literally no way to extract yourself since she can outrun you with ease.

Our Tank Witch, got blown away by one-shot. I agree not one of the most wisest of choices but it was Sunday, Sundays (from my experience) often turns ugly.

In hindsight, distracting her with our main armament until one of our own girls were sent down, might had been best bet but in the end we were all gung ho.
>>
>>28828851
I said "most". And either way, the shield could and did block our (comparatively) pathetic rifle rounds. We were lucky that she didn't decide to swat us right then and there.
>>
So when is it alright to make insane choices that probably would end in failure? There are accounts of absolute insanity that worked.
>>
Has there been a quest with Spec Ops or Commando witches or somesuch yet?

"Wait up, I want to get a few punches in, too!" You say, cracking your knuckles.

"I like the way you think, Red!" Bree grins.

With Bree around, it was a simple matter arranging (or in this case, hijacking) a ride to the hospital. After profusely apologizing to two poor, traumatized airmen, you follow Bree into the front lobby of the hospital. However, as you whip around the corner, you crash into somebody else. Bree is too excited to realize what happened and bolts off without you.

"Ohmygosh, I'm so sorry!" You gasp, and then realize the other person was also a witch. She looked a bit familiar...

"Don't worry, it's nothing." The other witch says. However, her eyes have the same moment of recognition that you do. "Wait a minute... haven't I seen you somewhere before...?"

My issue with all this bitching is...we didn't really have any better option. The Soviet witch dropped our friendly witch on her ass with one shot, and it apparently took her a good long time to get up, which left our unit exposed to crazy Soviet tankwitch. Notice how the Thundercat witch didn't help until well after we were pulped, which means she was out for a critical amount of time, more than enough for someone to get killed if we hadn't provided a crucial distraction. Honestly, the people bitching now would have bitched no matter how it went down, I just learn to tune them out by replying then jumping straight to the next post.

the issue wasn't distracting but the matter of continuing to shoot when it was clear it was a bad idea.

"Hey, wait a minute." You pause. "You were that tank witch, with the Thundercats!"

"You were one of the PJs that saved my partner!" She says at the exact same time.

There's a brief pause as both of you are momentarily unsure of what to do.

"Um, my name's Rachel, but you can just call me Red. Pretty much everybody does." You saw a bit awkwardly.

"Tiffany. But you can just call me Tiff." The tank witch says and holds her hand out. "I never got a chance to thank you guys for saving Alex. The doctors said if it weren't for you guys they'd have had to remove her damaged kidney."

"Yeah well, you could live with just one right?" You laugh nervously as you shake Tiff's hand.

"Yes, but then there would've been a chance she'd be deemed unfit for combat." Tiff responds. "Again, thanks to you she won't have to worry about that."

"It's nothing, really! Just doing my job!" You grin. "Actually, I'm a bit busy, I'm here to visit someone."

"Oh, sorry for intruding, then." Tiff bows politely.

Ah hell, she was there, too. You might as well drag her along with you. At the very least to thank him, and maybe even help beat him up a bit.

"Come on, Tiff, I'll show you my CO!" You say, taking her hand and dragging her along with you.

"W-what?!" The tank witch blinks.

"He was that idiot distracting that Russian tankwitch and got the snot beaten out of him for." You say.

"Ah, yeah, I remember that." Tiff nods. "Brave, but kind of stupid."

"I know, right? Standing and shooting like he was the Lone Ranger, or something!" You scoff. "Me and my squad helped write up this little instruction manual for him for how to deal with tank witches in the future!"

"'How to Dodge.'" Tiff says flatly as she reads the little booklet you gave her. "Really?"

"Apparently it's a specialized skill you gotta teach." You shrug. "I hope Bree hasn't killed him yet."

"Oh dear."

By the time you reach Cap's room, the situation... is pretty much how you expected it. Bree is busy throttling Cap, crying and laughing at the same time, with Cap trying to fight her off and trying to reach for the CALL NURSE button.

"DON'T DO ANYTHING LIKE THAT AGAIN, YOU HEAR ME?!?" Bree blubbers.

"O-okay, Bree! J-just let me breathe!" Cap chokes.

Finally, with all her pent up frustration vented, Bree lets go and sighs.

"Anyways, it's nice to see that you're okay, Will." Bree grins and makes her way to the door. "Sorry I can't stay longer, but I have a boatload of paperwork to finish. Keep him out of trouble, okay, Red?"

With that, Bree makes her exit.

"Glad to see Bree's okay." Cap sighs and turns to you. "How have you and the other girls been holding up?"

"WE. WERE. SO. GODDAMN. WORRIED!" You wail, repeatedly punching Cap in the shoulder. You were pissed off as all hell, but after every punch the anger slowly drained away and was replaced by plain relief.

"Um, am I interrupting something here...?" Tiff asks.

"No, we're just making sure he doesn't do something like that again!" You sigh, finally letting up on the punches.

"You could have at least alternated shoulders." Cap sighs as he rubs his undoubtedly now bruised left shoulder.

"You totally deserved it." You say, leaning forward and hugging him. "Glad to see you're back."

"Ugh, yeah." Cap frowns. "It feels like my chest was pushed in by a semi."

"Eh, it kinda was."

"Oh, and it's you!" Cap cranes his head to get a good look at Tiff. "I never actually caught your name."

"It's Tiffany, sir. Lieutenant Tiffany Chen." The tank witch salutes.

"Hey, no need to be formal here." Cap says. "What brings you here?"

"I was visiting a friend." Tiff says. "Though I never imagined I'd run into you here, too."

"Well, it's a small world." Cap shrugs.

"Anyways, thank you both very much. The Thundercats are in your debt." Tiff bows politely again. "I apologize, but I must take my leave. I can't afford to be off the front for too long."

With that, Tiff makes her exit as well.

the key issue is that anon choose to rush towards to the big bosses without considering the other things, which if taken care of could have opened up the allied craft to help somehow.

Rushing towards those big things reeks of vidya logic as in such games if you take down the big bosses fast enough, MISSION COMPLETE and not having to worry about the lingering battle.

I feel it was leaving our allies floundering against the enemy mooks was what caused the kitty hawk to enter the danger range.

Possibly, yes, but also, possibly, no. Hypotheticals are fun, but mean jack shit in the moment when a decision has to be made. Killing the Flying carrier was the primary mission, you know, the one we are supposed to complete at all costs? Besides, stopping the carrier meant crippling air superiority, which would have created a better opportunity for allied craft than dicking around with the dreads. We did the best we could, casualties are to be expected, can't win them all etc etc

>I thought anon at the time that the dreads were the biggest threat
But the dreads weren't what we went after, it was the crippled flying carrier that we went after.

And it wasn't even the dreads that were a danger at that point, it was the enemy fighter cover which was tearing the Phantoms and allied fighters apart.

And there were no subs in that fight at all.

So instead of protecting the other allied fighters (who weren't in air superiority frames like we were) so that they could fire their anti-ship missiles safely against the flying carrier and the dreads from range, safe from maser fire, we went straight after the flying carrier.
Which, due to Merlin's abilities, we crippled by firing regular anti-fighter missiles into its engine intakes.
>>
>>28830038
Don't try to deny that wasn't vidya logic if not an outright disregard for our own allies. There's a reason why Kostantina gleefully refered to Frank as a butcher: because in his seeming zeal to defeat enemies, he disregarded his allies.

>>
>>28830038
>Besides, stopping the carrier meant crippling air superiority, which would have created a better opportunity for allied craft than dicking around with the dreads
Actually, no that's not true. Since the flying carrier had no defenses besides lots of armor and its own fighter escort, and any fighter trying to land on it to rearm and refuel would have made for an easy target, even for a Phantom.

And the flying carrier had already launched its entire fighter complement, since it wasn't launching anything when we found it.

The Phantoms had none. Only we did. The Phantoms were all loaded for anti-air because of all the fuckoff-nuts amount of Russian planes in the air.

Right, now you're just starting shit.

We were the ones carrying the ASMs and the allied planes didn't have them in any large numbers.

The ASMs were hurting the wyvern's performance and part of the reason we went after the carrier first was to loose them and be air sup fighter again.

We fired the ASMs into the carrier's sides. Then when the dreads were retreating, all our allied planes had were sidewinders and AMRAAMs and those were doing squat.

A brief flash of... something zips by in your head. You're not quite sure what it was, but you definitely felt something when Cap said those words. Was it... envy?

Nah, can't be.

You take a look at the wall clock and gasp. How the hell did so much time pass!?

"I'm really sorry, Cap, but I gotta go, too!" You say quickly, dropping your homemade manual in the pile of letters that had gathered on the bedstand next to Cap's bed. "Still fighting a war and all!"

"Good luck, Red. Say hi to the others, for me."

"I will!" You nod as you dash out of the room.

With you mood brightened, you make your way back to your unit's staging area. You see Hoskins and Rex loading gear into the Pave Hawk while Janice and Tarin are prepping to get into their strikers.

"Ah, Red, I was wondering where you were!" Janice smiles as she sees you approach. "We were just about to call someone to search for you!"

"Sorry about that, I found out that Cap woke up." You say as you crack open your equipment locker and start putting on your combat gear. "I just came back from the hospital."

"How nice! Me and Tarin would have to visit him after this mission, then." Janice nods. "Right, Tarin?"

"Yeah." She says simply.

As usual, once everybody is geared up and Janice and Tarin are locked into their strikers, the Pave Hawk slowly takes off with the two witches following close behind. Ramstein becomes a speck in the distance as you get closer to the front.

"RR5, good to see you out here." Rescue Ranger One's voice buzzes in the radio. "Just in time, too. We got an assignment for you. Uploading the data on your tactical net."

You review the mission details being sent to you and frown. Apparently a small four man Green Beret team went out on a recon mission that quickly went south. As of their last communication, they were trapped in a village about ten kilometers behind Russian lines, with all four members WIA. Support options were a bit limited. No ground assets since it was enemy territory. Projected AA presence was light, but could still prove problematic for potential air support. Not to mention it was a threat to your own bird as well.

"Sounds a bit risky to send just one bird in." You frown.

"I suppose we'd be less likely to be detected." Janice says.

"Just hang back and watch our backs, will you?" You say.

"With pleasure." Ugly responds with a bit of smugness. You then notice the Apache fall back a bit and take position directly behind Janice.

Men. They were the same across all the branches. You shake your head.

"Tarin dear, could you please scout our flightpath? It would be terribly inconvenient if we ran into an enemy AA emplacement."

"Roger that." You see Tarin pull ahead before shimmering out of existence.

Fortunately, Command already had possible approach vectors past Russian lines figured out. Your tactical map was marked with points where scouts determined chances of detection by the Russians were the smallest. It's not as if they could man every square inch of the line. It was just a matter of picking a point and hoping the spooks did their job right.

Fortunately, getting into Russian territory was relatively simple. You managed to squeeze your way through a relatively quiet sector, flying low and fast to keep from being seen on radar or from a distance. Fortunately, despite Bullseye's risky and sometimes downright dangerous low altitude flying, Ugly manages to keep up.

"This is Tarin." You radio buzzes. "I have a visual on the town."

"What's the situation?" Janice asks.

"Not good. It's crawling with Russians." Tarin remarks. at least one platoon of infantry, maybe two. There's a pair of BTRs and a BMP, possible command element."

"Hmmm, that's troublesome. Where are the Berets?"

"No visual. Nothing on radio, either, but the Russians are sweeping the town, so they have to still be down there somewhere."

"Hmmm..." Janice frowns.

"Tarin, would you be a dear and provide a bit of diversion for us?" Janice says in a sweet singsong voice, despite the fact that her words were going to mean a lot of dead Russians.

"Roger that. Engaging."

You hear a few distant cracks of an M14 and brief pause of silence. A few more cracks sound out before you hear a steady stream of AK fire as the Russians try to engage Tarin. You can just imagine her slowly circling the town, picking Russians off at her leisure.

"I took out the command vehicle. The BTRs are retreating and the infantry are scattering. If you're going in, you better do it now." Tarin reports.

"Okay, we won't have much time until the Russians start calling for backup." Janice says as your Pave Hawk lands on the outskirts of the town. "I'll keep trying to raise them on the radio. The best we know is that they're in a white, three story building in the southern half of town."

"Got it." You say as you jump out of the Pave Hawk, Rex following close behind.

"We'll keep the LZ secure. If you need any assistance, just call!"

"Thanks!" You nod as you and Rex double time it to the town, where it would afford you better cover.

"I'll take point." Rex says, raising his carbine and moving forward.

You follow close behind as you sneak your way through alleys and streets, trying to look for the building Janice described as the sound of AK fire continues to buzz in the background.

"Hold up." Rex stops you as he peeks around a corner. "Four Ivans up ahead."

"Let me see." You take a peek around the corner yourself, and see that Rex was right. There were four Russian soldiers up ahead at the next intersection, obviously trying to figure out what was going on. Three of them had weapons ready and pointed while the fourth was visibly shouting in his radio in an attempt to get a response.

"Let's go around." You whisper.

"Right. We'll take the alley, then." Rex nods.

It takes a bit longer to negotiate the tight alleyways, but you manage to reach the other end of the block, and, shockingly enough, you come across a white, three story building. Some kind of hotel or something. Small wonders, huh?

"Red, whatever you're doing, you better hurry." Janice says, concern in her voice. "Tarin says the Russians are starting to regroup. She's also sighted heavy armor and ZSUs.

Okay, that was not good. You had to hurry.

You carefully approach the door, and give it a loud knock.

"New York!" You hear a clearly American voice yell a challenge phrase.

It takes a second for you to recall the answer before Rex does it for you.

"Yankees!"

"Okay, just a sec, I need to disarm the claymores!" The voice instead says.

Wait. What.

"Okay, come in!"

Both you and Rex open the door and swoop in. Inside, you see the four Green Berets you were searching for waiting inside, guns drawn. Oh, and there were claymores pointed towards the door as well. Lots of claymores.

"Don't worry, the cavalry has arrived" You say.

"Are you a witch?" One of the Berets asks.

"Um, yes?" You blink.

"Why are you wearing pants?"

EVERY FUCKING TIME.

"Hahaha, maybe we should worry about other things, like not getting shot by Russians." You say in a light but slightly threatening tone. "What's the damage?"

"Mostly a bunch of scrapes and bruises." One of them says.

That was a blatant lie. From just glancing at them. You can see they've taken their fair share of bullets and shrapnel, judging from all the bandages covering them. The fourth looked particularly bad, with his uniform soaked in blood.

>>
>>28831757

"Can you all move?" You ask as you bend down to check on the most wounded Beret.

"We wouldn't have called for help if we could." Their team leader sighs and steps forward. "You can just call me Tinman."

Man, these SF guys and their nicknames. Then again, you were technically SF and had a nickname, too, so you guess you couldn't complain about that.

"You can just call me Red, then." You nod as you put a bit of healing magic into the downed man.

"We should hurry." Rex says as he glances out the window. "I don't think Tarin can keep them distracted forever."

You run the scenarios through your head. On the one hand, you could try to guide these Berets out of the town on foot. It was stealthier that way. However, you'd have to expend energy that way to get them all into suitable condition to move on their own, and it'd be slow going. Then again, you could call the Pave Hawk to extract you directly from the building. You're sure that Bullseye would be able to fit the Pave Hawk either in the street or on the roof of the building. However, that might as well be screaming to the Russians where you were.

The ZSU's and heavy armor have already arrived if Tarin can see them. If we call in an evac, the ZSU's will just rush over to where they see the Pave Hawk going towards.
She just needs to get in a last few shots then bug out; the Russians will be slowed down as they search the town grouped together with their heavy armor, and we'll be able to get to a safer LZ for the Pave Hawk to land at.

>>

Yeah, Hellfires are laser-guided. Don't know if they'd work with the man-portable designators they use for laser-guided bombs, though. Plus, I doubt any of the witches has one on her, anyway
>>
>>28831967
Let's see, the ZSU's are where Tarin is currently creating a diversion, right?
And we can hear the gunshots from that diversion where we are.

How far can the gunshots from an AK-74 (I'm assuming these troops have been issued 74's, since it's 1989, and they're frontline Soviet troops and not WP satellite troops) be heard in an urban environment?
Because I think the average is 4-5 blocks (I could be very wrong), and that's about where those ZSU's would be regrouping.
Also, assuming these are ZSU-23's, considered so dangerous that in our timeline NATO had standing orders that if a pilot saw one, he was to abandon his mission in order to destroy it, I think we'd be well within range of their guns and anti-air missiles.

"Tarin spotted some ZSUs. I'm sure Ugly would have some fun popping them." You say.

"Alright, I'll send Ugly over to assist Tarin." Janice says. "I'll guide Bullseye in."

Without missing a beat, you grab one of the smoke grenades you're carrying and toss it out the window. It was a risk, but you needed Bullseye to know where you were.

About a minute later, you could see Bullseye approach in the Pave Hawk. You see tracers lance up from sporadic AK fire, but the Pave Hawk's onboard miniguns and Janice's rifle are enough to suppress or take out whatever infantry is foolish enough to reveal themselves, the high power bullets tearing apart both buildings and flesh.

You watch as the Pave Hawk hovers over the street as it slowly sets down, the tips of its rotors missing the surrounding buildings by a handful of meters. You hold your breath as he sets down slowly and carefully. Meanwhile, Janice circles overhead looking for threats. In the distance, you can hear the shrieking of hellfire missiles as Ugly does his work. Hopefully they and Tarin are doing all right.

With the Pave Hawk setting down, you and Rex start guiding the Berets to the bird. Two of them are able to make there unassisted, but you and Rex have to help carry the other two.

"Okay, we're loaded up!" You yell to Bullseye. "Let's get out of here!"

Your pilot nods and powers up the engine. The Pave Haw slowly begins to gain altitude but you see something is wrong. Squinting, you see movement about a kilometer away and your eyes widen when you see a pair of BMPs appear. They must have flanked around the town.

"BMPS THREE O' CLOCK!" You scream. "Bullseye go evasive!"

"Not enough altitude!" Bullseye yells back.

You see one of the BMP's cannons beginning to ascend to track you. Thinking fast, you instinctively raise your shield. The cannon fires but the shell deflects off and soars into a random area of the town. You stumble for a bit as your body attempts to compensate for the sudden use of magic. The second BMP fires as well, but this time Bullseye is prepared. He makes a hard turn, twisting the Pave Hawk around to face the BMPs and narrow its target profile, and it works. The shell sails past a few meters to the right.

Unfortunately, the combination of your weakened state and the sudden maneuver causes you to tumble out of the helo. You see Rex turn and try to dive to grab you but it's too late. You see Janice swoop in and try to grab your arm. You grimace as it feels like your arm is going to be pulled out of its socket, and the force proves to be too much. Janice can't get a grip on you and you slip out of her grasp. You can see the terrified look on her face as you fall, hitting the ground with a loud WHUMP.

Fortunately, Janice's intervention at least slowed your fall a bit. You're still conscious and you're not hurting TOO much. You quickly scramble to your feet. Janice drops down to try and grab you but an angry stream of autocannon rounds forces her to break away.

"Go!" You wave her off. "I can get clear!"

Janice, seeing that you're still active, reluctantly nods and breaks off.

"Town's too hot, Red, you need to get out of there. Head west!" Janice says. "I'll have Tarin try to link up with you. Just get out!"

You look around, trying to get your bearings. You manage to zero in on the rough direction of west. Those BMPs were going to be on top of you in seconds if you didn't move.

Thinking fast, you duck into the nearest alleyways, weaving your way through buildings and alleys, trying your best to make your way west and out of the town. Behind you, you can hear the rumbling of BMP engines as they attempt to search for you. You can catch brief glimpses of them as they drive by, their main guns pointed skyward while the commanders keep an eye out for you with their pintle mounted MGs.

"Janice, can you get Ugly to assist me?" You hiss in your radio. "The town is crawling with Ivans!"

"Ugly is taking fire and needs to reposition." Janice says. "You need to hold out for a few more minutes!"

Scowling, you quietly break into another building. It looks like a bar, judging from the interior. In the front, there is a large, open window with a direct view of the town's western exit. And.... shit. It looks like the Russians were thinking the same thing you were. The two BMPs had already parked themselves at the exit, and there was at least a squad of infantry milling about and setting up a barricade. That was not good.

"Ugly, this is Red, I really need some help down here." You hiss.

"Give us to two minutes."

You hunker down. No doubt the Russians thought Ugly was falling back for good, which was the whole point of the reposition. No doubt he was circling around to hit the Russians from another angle. For now though, you'd just have to wait.

However, you then hear an odd sound. It didn't match the sound of any conventional vehicle, but you recognized it all the same.

It was the hum of tank strikers.

You then see a Russian tank witch. No... not just any witch, the same one that attacked Cap! You'd taken to calling her the Bitch, because well... that's what she was! Wondering just what the hell she was doing here, you duck into the shadows, keeping close to the back door in case you needed a quick escape.

Then, an SUV pull up next to the Bitch, and a massive, heavily scarred Russian steps out. He's not wearing anything that signifies his rank, but the soldiers recognize his authority without a doubt and all immediately snap to attention. Some kind of officer maybe?

The officer and the Bitch start talking to each other in Russian. You're not fluent, but you've taken some instruction to at least learn the basics. The Matrons always liked to encourage their students to be multilingual.

<Find.... American....> The officer grumbles.

The Bitch shakes her head.

It's sort of now that you're regretting not picking up one of those many claymores the Berets left behind. Then again, you weren't expecting to be stranded on the ground, or fleeing Russian forces. You quickly and quietly back out of the bar.

"Negative, Ugly, we've got an enemy sparkle in the mix." You whisper. "I need to find an alternate exit."

"Red, if you about two hundred meters north, you'll find an alternate exit." Tarin whispers in the radio. "Doesn't look like the Russians found it yet.

"If you can see it, can't you come down to pick me up?" You ask.

"Not if you're in an alley or building. Too tight. You need to be in an open area." Tarin hisses. "Plus, I can't risk getting too close to the Russians. They might hear my strikers."

"Would they be able to hear it over the ruckus Ugly could cause?"

"Copy that, Red."

Taking a deep breath, you dash across the road to the next set of alleys. The town was now eerily silent now that all the shooting had stopped, but that still didn't stop your heart from pounding. Any moment, you might stumble across another Russian unit. Things were getting way too freaking tense here.

However, you don't encounter anybody. Which was... odd, now that you think about it. You'd think the Russians would be more thorough than this.

However... something still doesn't feel quite right. Following your instinct, you turn around...

...to see goddamn Raikov coming up right behind. How the hell did she know you were here? She's still about a hundred meters away, though. You turn back around and sprint for the exit, which seems to be a hole blown in the town's border wall. You clear the hole and find yourself back in the grassy field just outside of town.

"Ugly, Tarin, I got an enemy sparkle right behind me!" You squeal. You can hear the hum of her tank strikers getting closer. "I need support, please!"

"Hold on for a sec, I'm coming." Tarin says.

No, suggest ideas that are better than the ones you've been suggesting.
Also, just because a writein doesn't get votes doesn't mean Merc won't try to work it in somehow, unless it gets a lot of 'no that's retarded don't do this' replies. This is true for all but the most rigid questrunners.

>>
>>28833799
Sometimes we don't respond because the suggestion isn't worth responding to.
I mean, that suggestion is really no different than Option 1, since it's still having Ugly fire at Raikov while Tarin is still on her approach.
Tarin is coming regardless of the two options, and Ugly used their Hellfires back on the distraction with Tarin; they may be out as far as we know.

"Hold fire, Ugly." You say, expecting Tarin to swoop down to handle things.

Except Raikov's familiar ears wriggle a bit and she aims her cannons skywards and fires. The shell sails off blindly into the air, and you see Tarin disengage her cloaking.

"Shit, she's good." Tarin breathes.

The both of you pump magically enhanced gunfire into Raikov, whose shield sparks and flares as it takes the hits.

"She's going reload soon. Get into cover." Tarin warns.

Nodding, you slide into a small ditch while Tarin continues firing. Another shell goes sailing past her.

"Red, stand up now!" Tarin yells. "Arms out!"

You don't even stop to question her. You stand up and hold your warms out. Tarin tosses her M14 aside and hooks her arms under yours. Her strikers scream as she pours energy into them to regain much needed speed and altitude. You crane your head back to see Raikov reload her cannon and trying to draw a bead on...

Until she disappears underneath a cloud of smoke and dust as Ugly unloads his 30mm cannon into her.

"Ahahaha, that's right, bring down the motherfucking rain!" You laugh.

Unfortunately, it didn't seem the barrage killed or visibly hurt Raikov, but it certainly forced her back. You see her shoot out of the cloud and flee to the relative safety of the town.Tank witch or not, they were no match against a Apache that had them square in its sights.

It's then that the BMPs start to move, which was a bit odd, now that you think about it. Had Raikov been keeping them back the entire time? Just to fight you?

"All right Ugly, let's go home." Tarin says.

"Just a second." Ugly says. "Got some unfinished business."

You then hear the screech of missiles and rockets and being fired and the distant thumps of explosions, all underscored by the chatter of 30mm cannons.

"Rockets and missiles expended." Ugly announces.

Then its just the chatter of the 30mm cannon until that stops too.

"Cannon rounds expended."

And finally, you hear a distantly audible popping sound.

"Sidearm ammunition expended. Returning to base."

Man, Ugly must have REALLY wanted to start a fight.

Ugly then pulls up alongside you. You see both crewmen give you the thumbs up before it heads off back to friendly lines.

"Hey, uh, sorry about having to make you carry me back." You say apologetically to Tarin.

"It's nothing. I've done it tons of times before." Tarin shrugs, or at least does her best to since she's still carrying you. "Might want to clip on to me, though. My arms are getting a bit tired."

"Oh, right!" You nod as you fumble the safety clip attached to Tarin's vest for just this very occasion. "And uh, sorry about your rifle."

"Eh, it's just a gun. I can always get another one." Tarin does her best to shrug again.

"So... that witch..." You mumble.

"Pretty mean." Tarin says. "Very sharp, if she can guess where I am when cloaked. Possible she's got heightened senses."

"Does the name 'Raikov' sound familiar to you?" You ask.

"Maybe...." Tarin frowns. "I might know some guys who do."

"Alright..." You sigh. Seriously, what was up with that witch? It couldn't be coincidence that you ran into her again, right?

Right?

It's just then that you notice your hands haven't yet stopped shaking.

That's still discussion. You've made a point about why the option is terrible and needs to be revised or completely scrapped. Someone else makes a suggestion and people may run with it and improve upon it or tell that Anon his idea is retarded too. It's a better system than arbitrarily picking Option A or B as we can cherry pick exactly what we want our action to be and probably come out ahead in the long run. It also has the downside of completely screwing us if we choose wrongly.

Why should respond and waste our time with obviously terrible suggestions?
If your suggestion had any merit, an argument for discussion could be made.
But when it's terrible, or in this case, no different than one of the already pre-prepared options, why should we even discuss it?

If a suggestion has merit, we'll discuss. Otherwise, we'll ignore it. Or do you want to be called retarded that much?

Well, yeah. This is 4chan. I fully expect to be called everything under the Sun. The problem arises in a fully freeform quest when the other Anons do not call out the retarded suggestion is that the Quest Runner may use them if they do not receive any negative responses. And thus detrimentally effecting the quest in the long run.

Building upon Option A or B isn't terrible. It's a base to work off of to expand the action we wish to take. It allows the participants to, once more, cherry pick what we want to do. No matter what, we were going to get stuck in a shootout. Having a little bit of control over what was to happen would have been stellar.

People are just not willing to vote for BAD writeins, such as yours.

>>28834006
well, keep in mind that it's still early in the quest and we haven't had much time to get to know them.

>>
>>28834102
>People are just not willing to vote for BAD writeins, such as yours.
I would go one step further, and say that we're not going to discuss retarded suggestions that have no support at all.

We DO discuss the merits of one choice over another, but we don't waste our time before voting closes with suggestions that are obviously bad and that no one supports. Time is a precious commodity, and while our voting time may be longer than some other quests, we don't have hours to discuss every option that is suggested.
>>
Would you all shut the fuck up and discuss something much more worthy of our efforts.

>>
>>28834095

>go away

Ah, but I am always here, Anon. Lurking. I've been here for quite some time. And sure, I am most certainly an irritant, it's my main shtick. An irritant that bothers to break away from arbitrarily picking A or B and bothers to think out a plan of action. I will say that that, if not to be rude, is the better choice in the matter.

>>28834102

Something about Bitchtits telling Red that getting attached to Pierce is a bad idea because men are evil. And Red counters by asking 'What alternatives are there? Other girls?'
Cue awkward silence, Chris' well-timed entrance and SHOCKED REALISATIONS, followed by hilarious denials and Red's attempts to convince the two to act on their forbidden love.
>>
>>28834153
Not really seeing it. Even Chris knows that Bitchtits is a bitch, and yeah, she cares, but she's still not doing the right thing. Mixed units aren't the problem, soldiers getting emotionally invested in their comrades is. That's not something that she's going to be able to prevent, and maybe losing a Witch in an all-Witch squadron and having them put through the emotional wringer is what she needs.

Oh, better yet, Chris gets shot down, and then see how she feels about losing her wingwoman. See if she handles it any better than Ice or a Witch from a mixed unit.

Well Tanks is semi-decent in that regard, though it'd do better if it ran regularly, still I doubt any TW89 wound up like Maverick and Goose (basically extra despite being among the original ground)

then again I think Ghost reads too many shounen manga (let's see a bunch of action. little plot, loads of characters, nigh-asexual MC)
>>
>>28834220
Personally I think Mav and Goose should have been a steelwing pair. Adding Katya and the Twins would then have made three jets and three witches, resulting in lots of different possible teamups.

>>28834268
Funny you mention those three as they're the most likely (if incidental) culprits in the marginalization of Mav and Goose, with the twins being guilty as they're a more one note versions of Slider.

>>28834281
Dunno, considering anon seems very fond of waifuing and Ghost seems fond of cockblocking that with suspiciously well timed Russian attacks.
