>Frieza Defeated

Silence and dark surround you. There is no light here, and you can bring yourself to make none. The hard stone floor beneath you and the cold iron bars are all that you have. There isn't so much as the squeak of a rat here. As you lie face up on the ground, you feel your stomach groan and churn with hunger. Your throat and lips are dry. Your frame is too weak raise your shield above your head now. There are no days here. Nor are there hours. There are only moments, passing by like grains of sand dropping in and endless hourglass. Blinking means nothing. Sleeping and waking have blended together into a seamless flow of continual nothingness. The only way to know you are conscious and aware is to bite down on your own hand for the sensation of pain. You've had to stop that though, as it's gotten tempting to try and eat yourself just to have something to do. You wonder to yourself, if your companions are looking for you. Maybe they've given up and gone home. Maybe they stopped the Black Fire god without you. It's impossible to know for certain.

You lay there in the dark, sliding back and forth between consciousness. Then, for some odd reason, you have a dream. A particular dream you haven't had in quite some time. You are standing in a field of sunflowers, with the noon sun high above your head. The sky is clear and blue, and the horizon shows nothing but more flowers. You walk forward, forward being a general direction based on nothing at all, trying to find something besides the flowers. You spot in the distance, someone in the flowers, huddled. They don't appear to notice you. It is someone who looks so very familiar. You try calling out to them

You call out as you approach. You are surprised, however, to see that not only is it not who you were expecting, it's someone you didn't know you could even appear as such.

Rising up from the field, in golden, shining robes, is an elderly man. His hair and beard are thick and curled, the color of wheat. He holds in one upturned palm, a glass bowl containing some kind of golden mixture that swishes about as he walks. He comes to you, smiling warmly.

"Hello, my son. I'm sorry I appeared so nonchalant when you arrived, you caught me whilst I was resting. It is good to see you here now! I have been trying to summon you for quite some time, but I'm afraid the power of that brute keeps mine from influencing much in his domain."

Hi there Spring.

Just remember, if he tells us to stop kneeling, don't grovel or avert your eyes. He gets sick of it.

You fall to your knee, diverting your eyes from him. He laughs, a sound that warms your very soul when you hear it, and places a hand on your shoulder.

"I appreciate the gesture, child, but now is not the time for formalities. Things have gotten quite dire, and I expect we do not have much time before the finale of this play begins."

You ask why he has brought you here. He explains that this realm is one he created, so that he may have somewhere to go and relax from his responsibility. Unfortunately, when he was on one such sabbatical, a demon saw fit to make a grab for his throne.

"When I realized the power this monster had, I knew that it would take more than sheer force to fell him. He draws power from his followers, same as I. But you have shaken the faith of his believers, and now he seeks to burn my city to reassure them. It may seem odd, that I chose you from birth for this mission. Understand that when you get to be as I am, time stops meaning much of anything. Regardless, I have healed your body while you've been here, and it's about time to send you back." You ask how you are supposed to escape your prison. "Not to worry, I've already sent someone to collect you. You don't think I'd give you such an important mission without backup, do you?"

He places his palm on your head, and suddenly you are thrust backward, and the field of flowers fades. You are back in the cell, but not alone anymore. There are footsteps, and you can see light coming from a torch somewhere far down the long hallway.

You call out to the torch bearer, excited to see someone after so long here. You find that your lungs re particularly strong, as is the rest of your body. You still feel hungry and thirsty, but your muscles have regained their strength and your skin feels much less sensitive.

You hear footsteps now, and they pick up pace when you call out. You see a shadow in the distance closing in. When it reaches you, it holds the torch out, and you see a familiar face. Standing there is the man from the warehouse, who held the crossbow to your chest after you defeated Remus. He holds a keyring, and smiles at you. He fumbles with the ring and chooses a large iron key, which he uses to unlock the cell door. You are free.

>B) "Father bless you."
The whys don't matter.
We have a city to save and mad god to kill.
>>
>>28858461
>>28858475
You bow to him, giving him the blessing of the Father. You ask him why he is helping you now.

"For many years I had nothing. No family, nobody to turn to. My home was wherever I could afford to sleep. The Black Fire god promised to give me what I wished I had. But all he gave to any of us was death and blood. It wasn't until you came to slay Remus that I realized how foolish I was, devoting myself so blindly to a being who showed no love for me. But the Father, he was different. When my faith was taken from me, I looked to the sun, and asked what I should do. Then, as I was drinking myself into a stupor, a barmaid spoke to me. She asked why I was alone, and I told her. The next few days, I spent with her, and learned to love her. It was what I had wanted all my life, someone to give myself to. When I asked the sun if this was its doing, I got no answer, but I did have a feeling, deep within me. It guided me here, and here I found you. I don't know if I can praise the Father truly, but if he is generous enough to give me a chance at happiness after what I have done, I will try."

He leads you down the hallway and to a wooden door, reinforced with iron braces. Past that door is a winding staircase, which leads out to the city again. The sunlight blinds you, and when you look at yourself, you see how dirty and thin you've become. It seems to be a pattern when you deal with the Black Fire god. You thank the man for his help, and ask him about the church's plans. He tells you that they are gathering in droves in the city tonight. They will open a portal and send an entire legion through. They aren't going alone either. They have been infecting people all over town with some strange potion poured into the water. There's no telling how many are affected, but tonight when the portal opens, those who are will be drawn to it and forced to fight and kill the residents of the Holy City.

He tells you that the last time he heard about your friends, it was a few days after Remus' death. You ask how long it's been since then, and he tells you two weeks. He says that your friends have been breaking up small gatherings of the church, but they were merely decoys while the true plan was being carried out. Today a group of priests are supposed to drag a few people to the outskirts of the city, to draw your friends away from the circle as it is completed.

When you ask about a cure to the potion, he tells you that there is no way to stop the effects now, but you can stop the person giving orders to the affected, which will serve the same purpose.

Finally, you ask where the key points in the ritual circle are, so that you may dismantle it before it is complete. He says that he was not given such vital information, but they would likely be inside buildings to protect them from common folk disrupting them.

You thank the man for his assistance and rush off to find the center of the circle, and work from there. down winding streets you run, ignoring the eyes of the people staring at you in curiosity. You eventually come to the fountain the man mentioned before, and indeed it is drained, and in the center are small circles drawn in white chalk. You try to rub them out, but something binds them to the floor. You begin following the white lines born from the smaller circles, and come to a small building. The door is locked, but you are sure at least one of the circles must be inside. With a swift kick you break down the door, and are met with a blast of fire that sends you back. You quickly get up to see what caused the attack, and see three men emerging from the building. All three are dressed in robes, and two of them have swords. The third holds a small wooden rod, carved with various runes. The people in the street stop to watch for a moment. The man with the rod draws it back and hurls another ball of fire, which you block with your shield, but it still sends you back a ways. The people are now screaming and running from the place.

Realizing that it may take hours to find another potential place to sabotage the circle, you raise your shield and prepare to fight the three men,. You are unarmed, but you still have Dad's knife, which you draw in preparation for the battle.

As the swordsmen approach you, you bring your arm across your chest, then bash away the sword of the one on your left. The one on the right comes at you with a thrust, which you narrowly avoid by turning it away with your knife. With his arms sway from him, you stab and plunge the blade of Dad's knife into his throat. He drops his sword and grabs his own throat in desperate fear, then collapses and writhes in the dirt. The mage is now preparing to hurl another ball of fire, and the remaining swordsman is coming at you again.

As the swordsman swings at you, you lean backward, ducking under the blade, and roll into a back somersault. You right yourself just within reach of the sword that the first swordsman dropped, and you scoop it up. As you do this however, the mage lets loose his spell, and it makes contact with your side. You are knocked over, and your robes ignite. You roll away from the swordsman, putting the fire out, but exposing yourself. The mage charges you now, seemingly out of spells, as does the swordsman. You are not in a position to get up in time.

You bring your borrowed sword down and cut deep into the mage's shoulder. As he cries out in pain, you drag the blade back toward you, slicing him deep. The swordsman gets to his feet, and charges you in desperation. You easily turn his blade away with your shield and cut him down as well. The area is now clear of everything except bodies.

You take a moment to catch your breath, then begin heading toward the building that the center circles lead to. However, you stop, as you suddenly hear a howl in the distance. It could be Leman Russ.

You decide that stopping the portal takes precedence, and head into the building. The inside is mostly burnt and trashed, with bottles and soiled clothes and blankets laying about. You violently and repetitively stab the point of your sword into the stone floor, in an effort to chip away the rock that the chalk is drawn on. After 10 or so good hits, the sword snaps. It is now useless as a weapon, but the floor is sufficiently chipped and scuffed. You'll have to hope this is enough to stop this section of the circle. You head back outside, and see four more men in red robes turning the corner across the square. They spot you and begin charging.

You make a dash for the other street, avoiding at least one crossbow bolt as you move. The four men try to give chase, but you lose them when you duck into and alley and scale the walls up to the rooftops.

You continue to run in the direction of the howl, but without hearing it again you can't be sure it hasn't moved. You leap from roof to roof, sometimes rolling, and sometimes barely grabbing the edge as you fall. Eventually you come to an alley, and hear hysterical barking coming from below. You look down, and sure enough you see Leman Russ, leaping and barking at you. You leap into a nearby tree and then descend to the floor. Russ tackles you, rubbing his face all over and around you, whining and pawing at you. You wrap your arm around him and scratch his head. You look around, but see no sign of your other comrades. What you do see, however, is that sunset will be upon you in an hour or so. The circles will be much harder to find in the dark.

You follow him for a while, as he sniffs the ground and the air, changing directions suddenly. It's hard to keep up with him, but you push yourself for the sake of time.

Finally you round a corner and see Andre, walking away from you down the road. He seems to be scanning the street for something. When Leman Russ catches up to him, he turns around in excited surprise and pets him. You run over. When you speak up, Andre looks at you in shock. You push Andre away and explain that you need to move quickly, and find the others. He nods and the two of you follow Leman Russ as he leads you down more streets and alleys. You ask Andre why the four of them were split.

"Well I was with Diane and Russ earlier. We were going to bust up a meeting we heard about in town, but on the way there Russ got a wild hare up his ass and started running all over town. We tried to keep up but he was too quick, so eventually the both of us decided it would be better to split up and try to look for him. I was still looking when you two came up to me. Diane should be a few blocks away, as long as nothing happened to her."

You ask why Anna wasn't with them.

"Ah, well... the first few days after those weird hands came out of the ground and took you, she was really torn up about it. She must have broken so many guy's noses trying to find you, she could have half the thugs in this town smelling sideways by now. The past couple days though, she hasn't been feeling great, so we've been letting her stay in the hideout while we go busting up the church. I'm sure she'll feel better when she sees you though."

You run with Russ, headed to the hideout, making the path from memory. Russ has to correct your course twice, but you make it to the building and slip in. It's as dark and dank as ever, but the doorway is still secure. You open it, and enter a dark room, barely lit by the outside. You look around and spot Anna, lying in her bedroll, sleeping soundly. As you're wrapping up, you see a large group of robed turn a corner and begin charging at you. You think there must be 20, but they all seem to be mere peons, as they don't even have proper weapons.

Without needing to exchange words, you and Anna break apart. While running, you plant your foot on a small box, and use that as a boost to grab onto a window sill nearby. You begin climbing, hand over hand up the wall, while the robed below fling knives and stones at you. Not a single one hits as you nimbly move side to side while climbing. You reach the rooftop, then look over to see that Anna has not only finished her climb, but is firing into the crowd with her bow. Down below, Leman Russ weaves in between the feet of the attackers as they focus on you.

All three of you make it past the crowd. You leap into a tree, then to a small stand, then roll and touch ground. Once the others catch up, you keep running. You can hear the mob coming after you, but losing them now is a simple matter. Or so you think, until another wave of robed emerge. You and the others try the same trick, scaling the walls with whatever terrain is available and reaching the rooftops. It is now that you see other robed on the roofs of the town, no doubt serving as spotters for the ones below. When they see you noticed them, they cross bows and begin firing. There it little to nothing to serve as cover up here.

A) Go back to street level and deal with the mobs

You rush over, jumping the gaps in the rooftops to get to the spotters. Your shield serves you well, but Anna is forced to move much slower in order to avoid incoming shots while also running.

You get to the first one, and hit him with the edge of your shield, then as he stumbles, driving your knife into his stomach. You look over and see Anna ducking beneath a bolt, then uppercutting another robed off of the edge of the roof. The fight continues this way, until you've taken out 7 spotters all together, and are nearly to the town center. When you arrive, you look over the edge of the roof you're standing on to see Andre being swarmed by robed. You begin to realize that there are far too many of them to simply have been waiting for you, and that the potion must have begun taking effect on some of the people of the city sooner that you thought it would. No doubt a contingency in case of your escape from prison. You shout Andre, who keeps whirling amidst the crowd of people.

"Hey! Don't worry about me, I can handle this! Find Diane, she's trying to break the circles!"

Despite his assuring words, he is taking a blow for every 10 he dishes out. Fortunately, things look a little better when Russ pops out of an alleyway and dashes in to help him.

Anna leaps down from the building and enters the fray with Andre and Russ. You tell them to hold out as long as they can, and that you'll be back to help them once you've broken enough of the circles.

You dash over the rooftops once again, tracing the lines generated from the center circles, until you spot Diane in a small garden, smashing a stone into a wall, trying to break away the circle drawn on it. You leap down, rolling as you hit the ground, and greet her. She tells you that she's broken two circles now, but that they're somehow resisting being wiped away. You pick up a stone and assist her. After the circle seems sufficiently damaged, you begin searching for another one. You find two more, breaking them as best you can, but the sun is setting. The din of battle still rings in the distance. Diane is nervous for Andre, Anna and Russ.

You tell Diane that Anna and Andre are strong, and that you'll just have to trust their ability to hold out until you can finish. She seems unsure, but she follows you to the next circle regardless.

The next circle is located in a small house. You break down the front door, and see one of the robed holding a woman from behind. He has a knife in his hand, and he tells you to stay away, or he'll cut her throat open..

You fling Dad's knife across the room, hitting the robed in the shoulder. He panics and releases the woman, who runs over to you. She clings to your clothes, but before you can ask her to let go, you feel a pain in your side. You shove her away and see that she left a small knife in your stomach. She comes at you again, but suddenly a flash of light bursts in front of her face, and she is blinded and falls to the ground, clutching her smoking skin and screaming. You turn around to see Diane holding her Holy Symbol, then turn back to charge the robed on the other side of the room. He pulls Dad's knife from his own shoulder and tries to stab you with it, but you block the swing and jam the small knife in his neck. After, you disarm him and bash him with the edge of your shield. He goes down and you and Diane proceed to locate the circle in the next room on a dining table, and break it with a hammer you find in the kitchen.

Sunset is upon you, and the sky has gone dark. You've only broken what must be half of the circles in the second ring of the greater circle. As you look up toward the sky, you witness a massive pillar of light rise up from the city's center. It shines for a moment, then fades. There is no more sound of combat from beyond the buildings. Something has happened. You and Diane rush back to the center of town. There is almost no one left in the streets, except for a few corpses.

When you finally reach the square, you see the man in black robes. He is standing in the dry fountain, and looming over your companions. Russ is on the floor, barely squirming, and Andre is pressed up against a wall, with a saber snapped and his head hanging low. Anna is kneeling a few feet away, looking at the man in black robes with fear and anger.

As you approach, you hear him speaking to Anna, but are unable to make out his words before you leap onto his back and drive Dad's knife into him. A jet of flames pulses from his wound, sending your hand away and forcing you to fall off of him. He lets out a terrible yell, and pulls the knife out, turning to face you. You see the knife turn red hot, and the steel melts in his hand.

"I should have known you'd find a way to wiggle out of that cell. But it doesn't matter now, because the sun is gone and soon the ritual will be ready. Then I will tear your holy city to the ground, and take my rightful place as god of the sun!"

You get to your feet, and tell him that if he wants you out of the way so badly, then why not face you right now? He seems to think for a moment, then speaks

"Your companions and you have ruined so many of my plans. Your faith in the Father has served you well. But you're right. If one wishes to kill a weed, one must pull it out by it's roots, and that would be you. When you are broken and bloody, your god's chosen warrior dead, then my power will be at its peak. But we shall not fight here. No, I'm afraid there are too many distractions. We will fight in my domain!"

As happened before, red, flaming hands emerge from the ground and wrap around your ankles. The ground around you ignites, and you are dragged into it. You hear Diane shout out for you, but there is nothing you can do now. The ground swallows you, and you find yourself falling down, into a world colored red like blood, hot as an oven, with great pillars of flame all around. You hit the floor, hurt, but quickly gain your feet as the black robed man appears in a burst of flames.

You pause a moment, declaring that the duel won't be interesting at all if you aren't on equal ground. He laughs, "Indeed. You have little magic, I forget. Here then, take your weapon back." He holds out his palm and conjures a great flame in it. From this emerges your White Sword, which he tosses to you. It lands blade down in the ground, and you pull it out. "Of course you'll allow me the same chance." He summons another great flame, and from it you see emerge Remus' sword, just as the day you fought him. He runs the length of the blade along his hand, and it ignites with black fire.

"I am Khama, God of Black Fire! Die!"

He swings his blade down, and you see a wave of black fire charge at you.

They clash, and create an enormous burst of multicolored flame that twists around itself, then burns out. Khama doesn't seem deterred by this, and in fact seems somewhat amused.

"Haha! I see the Father has gifted you with quite a bit of power. He must truly be desperate if he would grant you such strength to stop me."

Khama swings his sword in two grand arcs, unleashing two more waves of black fire.

As the waves of flame are headed towards you, you begin moving in a wide circle to get around them. One clips your leg, but the burn is a minor problem at this moment. When they are both past, you leap into the air and come down with your sword, releasing a vertical wave of white flame which rushes toward Khama. He spins to the side and release another of his own. This dance continues on, with each of you narrowly avoiding one another's flames, until you miraculously manage to hit him with one. After leaping and rolling over one of his surges, you send out two mighty swings. Khama parries the first, but the second comes in at an angle he can't reach in time, and it collides with him. You see him take a few steps back, and watch as his robes ignite with white fire. Now may be your chance to press the offensive

You take your chance and swing for his leg. The blade trails fire as it comes down, and cuts clean through his robe, but meets no flesh and no bone. For your efforts you receive the pommel of his greatsword in your shoulder, but you do manage to dodge his next swing.

Rubbing the spot where you were struck, you look at his torn robes in confusion, as you see he stands on nothing.

"Surprised, inquisitor? My shape is fluid, but it is true I have no legs beneath these robes. Let me show you."

He pulls his sash, undoing the knot keeping his robes together. As they fall you witness his form, a half man, thin enough that his ribs can be seen in his chest, with charred black skin all over. At his hips, there are no legs, only rotted stumps. His arms are entirely too long for his torso, and they end in gross nails. As his cowl falls, his face is revealed to be that of a horrible insect mixed with a man. Finally, you see great wasps wings unfurl from his back, and begin flapping at high speed.

You charge in, sword ready, to strike when he is off balance. once at him, you grip your sword in both hands and slice upward, cutting from hip to shoulder, and cry the Father's name. W streak of white fire comes from your blade, igniting his wound even as you cause it. He falls back, hitting the floor and begins twisting and writhing in pain. You reverse your grip, and try to plunge the sword into his chest, but you are stopped, and blasted back by a jet of black fire from his open wound. You get up and face him, only to see a set of horrid red hands emerging from his chest, lifting him back up.

"I have been toying with you for far too long. The time has come, and my plan is about to be set in motion! Stay here and burn forever!"

He stabs his sword into the ground, and spins, cutting a circle in the burning floor. It opens, and he falls through it. You try to run and dive in after him, but the hole seals before you can make it in. You are by yourself in Khama's domain. There is no way out, but you must try. Diane tells you that when the portal opened, and Khama entered, the robed started pouring from every door and window, rushing to get in. Leman Russ, Anna, and Andre cut their way in, but Diane couldn't make it with no weapon, so she decided to wait here in case you came back. She also says that when Khama emerged from the fire without you, he ordered the robed to create new circles in blood. Looking around, you do see several dead robed, all lying near bloody circles.

There's no more time to waste here, as the Holy City is sacked. You tell Diane to get behind you and stay close, and begin wading into the crowd of robed. You light your sword and cut through them like butter, climbing over them as Diane clings to your back. You get to the portal and enter.

You come out in the middle of the Holy City. There are robed all around, and many buildings are burning. The people of the city are running scared, as the robed kill and burn. You are relieved somewhat, to see a few brothers and sisters here, fighting, but they will be overwhelmed soon. Looking up to the Holy Palace, you see the form of Khama, climbing the great walls, even as bolts of holy light blast him from all angles. There is no way to get to the palace without sacrificing this entire block of the city. But just then, Diane calls your name, and you turn to see her holding her Symbol, as it glows a fierce gold. She seems shocked at first, but then a sense of serenity washes over her face. She turns to the portal and holds her symbol to it, and you witness as a jet of glorious white light shoots from it, repelling the robed trying to enter the city. The jet ceases after a few moments, but starts up again, just as bright.

"I think I may be able to hold some of them here!" she says, "Go to the palace! Hurry!"

You tell Scipio that the Palace is in danger, to which he says he already knows.

"The inquisitors were order out to stop these freaky red robes, but that thing climbing the walls took a lot of them out, so some of the paladins were sent to bolster our chances. And besides, I want to see if my lady is okay."

You nod, and wish him luck, and the two of you split up. You make your way to the Palace as he descends even deeper into the madness of the city. You see the gates coming up, and see near 50 robed being hald back by paladins and clerics between the gate and the door. You light your blade and cut through through them getting to the Palace. The clerics ask about you, but you tell them you have no time to dawdle.

Inside the Palace, brothers and sisters run all which ways, some heading out to battle and some carrying injured or supplies. You make your way through the cathedral, and are stopped by a cleric.

"It's you! Your companions have already been through here, they said you might come. you must go to the Grand Ballroom, is where his holiness and your friends are staging the final defense!"

"The false god is now scaling the walls of this palace. He will reach the grand window there. We form the last defense. If he enters the palace, he may corrupt all of the brothers and sisters, as well as the innocents who reside here."

You ask him where your companions are, but before you finish the question, you see Andre and Anna emerge from the crowd of clerics. Before you can say anything, Anna throws all her weight at you in an embrace, and kisses you. Andre tells you about coming to the city, essentially what Diane already explained, but with the addition of he and Anna making their way to the Palace thanks to new evocations given to them by the Father.

B) "She'll be okay. We need to focus on ending this fight here!

Andre smiles, thanking you, then runs past you at top speed. While he is running, you command Russ to join him and defend the city as well. He seems reluctant, but you are stern, and he goes after Andre. You move forward, making your way through the clerics, to get to the head of the group. Anna follows behind you. Outside, you hear the sounds of crumbling rock, and now that you focus, you can feel the floor of the Palace trembling slightly. You hold your sword, ready for the inevitable attack, and wait.

The ground begins to shake more violently, and you can hear low growling from outside. The windows shake in their frames, and the clerics around you begin to murmur prayers under their breath.

Then appears Khama. He retains his insect-like form, but his size is much greater, nearly that of a large house. He comes from below, laughing maniacally, and you see his bug eyes scan the room. He locks them on you.

"So you made it home after all. Good. Now you are witness to my true form! With this power, I will kill you all!"

He belches a great tidal wave of black flames, but just as you are sure you're dead, a golden wall erects itself before you. The clerics hold their Holy Symbols, chanting at the top of their lungs, holding the flames back. Anna notches an arrow and aims it at Khama, and you see it begin to pulse with white light. When she releases it, it becomes a shaft of white fire that pierces Khama and digs itself in. After, the clerics who aren't chanting begin, and unleash jets of flame from their Holy Symbols at the Black God. The flames aren't white, as Diane's and Anna's were, though, and they don't even seem to hurt him. He ceases with the black fire, and laughs again.

Suddenly, from the very wound you gave him pour dozens of red monstrosities, all vaguely human in shape but featuring insect like body parts in various amounts. They spill out on the floor, then right themselves and begin charging at you. From behind, the bishop charges along with a handful of paladins, and Anna begins firing into the enemy mob.

You ignite your sword with white fire, but hold your ground while the paladins work. You watch as the bishop charges in with his greataxe, and cleaves nearly 6 of the monsters in half with one mighty swing. The rest of them simply meet the line, and begin smashing with their shields and slashing with swords and axes. Khama laughs again,

"Struggle as you like, but my bowels are infinite, and my servants endless!"

He begins to drag his immense body into the room, squeezing and wriggling to fit. The clerics continue to fire at him, but he merely shrugs it off. The only thing hurting him are Anna's arrows, which hit and ignite his skin, cooking it. But she can only launch so many, so fast. You join in, swinging your sword to create waves of white fire, but even those seem less powerful now. Khama draws closer, pouring more foes into the room. Some get past the paladins, and rush toward the clerics. The golden shield rises again, but the creatures begin to force their way through, cooking from the holy energy of it. Even contending with the fire of the clerics, they find their way closer through sheer numbers. One finally gets to you, and you plunge your blade in. It takes it all the way to the hilt, then pulls away, taking the sword with him. Khama is close enough to hurl a stone at now, and the paladins are being pushed back.

You place yourself in front of Anna as the onslaught of enemies approaches. You close your eyes and grit your teeth as they swarm you and the clerics, and begin chomping down on you with horrendous teeth and mandibles. They thrash and bite at you, and you can hear Anna screaming as they do. You feel something pierce your chainmail, and cut into your skin, and the sensation of blood runs down your leg.

Then you are in the field. There are no foes. The sun is setting. The sunflowers are turned down, faces away from the orange sky. On the floor before you is a golden Holy Symbol, made to look like the sun. You pick it up, and turn it over. There is a message scratched into the back.

" Standing here
I realize
You are just like me
Trying to make history

But who’s to judge
The right from wrong
When our guard is down
I think we’ll both agree

That violence breeds violence
But in the end it has to be this way..."

A great pillar of white fire blazes forth from where you stand, pushing back all of the creatures near you, but leaving your comrades untouched. You hold the golden symbol in your hand, blazing with heat and white fire. Even your clothes ignite, but do not burn. You feel an immense weight within you, pushing you forward. Khama himself looks at you in shock and awe, as you pull your arm back behind you, spreading your legs out for the next attack.

The symbol in your hand turns from the sun's visage to a lance of white energy in your hand. You take aim. You meet Khama's eyes. He opens his great maw and speaks his final words.

"I see."

You hurl the bolt of energy and watch as it streaks across the room and plants itself in Khama's chest. There is emits waves of brilliant flame, burning his skin. The enemies cease pouring from his bowels, and the ones on the ground begin to burn alive from the radiance of your attack. Khama cries out, a roar that shakes the room around you, as the lance penetrates even deeper, running through him. His body begins to burn and turn to ash, falling from him and piling on the ground beneath him. Then, with a great boom, the lance penetrates his body and flies off into the night sky. Far and away you see an explosion as bright as the sun itself, and Khama's body begins to disintegrate before you. Soon his body and the body of his spawn are nothing but soot and ash, blowing away in the breeze. The paladins and clerics stand silent, as the night returns to it's normal state. Somewhere you hear a cricket.

The next few days are spent rebuilding the city. Those under the spell of Khama regain their free will over time, and are put to work fixing the damage they caused, and of course are given asylum in the Palace until they can find permanent residence and work in the city.

Many died in the battle. Innocents and combatants alike. A few hours after the climax with Khama, Andre and Diane brought you the body of Leman Russ, who fought bravely until the very end, defending the city from Khama's evil. That night, as you lay in bed, Anna comforted you while you silently cry tears for your faithful friend.

You buried Leman Russ in the Palace Garden, beneath a strong Maple tree. You and your friends held a service for him, saying kind words and praying for his spirit to be guided to the kingdom of the Father of Light. His headstone, made from silver set in granite, reads "Here lies Leman Russ. He was a wild beast, a fierce fighter, and an eternally faithful friend. Peace to his soul."

Weeks later, you find yourself standing in the Great Ballroom where the battle took place. It is clear of most of the debris now. Once they repair everything, there will be almost no trace of the fight that occured here. It will all be a memory. You look down at your chest, and see a golden badge. On it are the words "Head Inquisitor, Fidelus Major"

Behind you, you hear footsteps. It is your secretary. She is a bright young girl, always energetic and optimistic. She approaches you with a stack of papers in hand.

"Sir, I'm sorry to interrupt, but there are some matters you need to attend to today. There is a new building going up in the city, and the bishop requests that the heads be there to keep up appearances. Second, there are several mission proposals here that need to be looked at. One of them, I believe is a peace mission with an orc warband who have been joining with humans. Oh, and your, um...well Miss Anna is out of the infirmary. She's waiting in your quarters. She's... well I shouldn't say. Oh, also, Sir Scipio has asked me to give you this" she hands you an envelope sealed with wax.

You excuse her, telling her to have all your work placed on your desk, and that you'll get to it tomorrow morning, first thing. She sighs, but bows and leaves the room. You begin walking down the hall, ripping open the letter from Scipio as you go. Inside is a lovely letter on parchment, with a light scent of lavender. It reads: "You are cordially invited to attend the wedding of Sir Scipio of Redrock and Miss Selena Madison, taking place on the fourth day of the winter season, at noon sharp. Dress is formal, and all guests will be required to RSVP as soon as possible in order to make sitting and dining arrangements..." You smile widely, proud of your friend. Up until you realize there is no name or address on the letter or envelope anywhere. He invited you to his wedding with a generic printed letter. Ouch.

You come to your bedroom door, and enter. The room is light by the afternoon sun. The wardrobe hangs open, with Anna's robes piled up on the floor next to it. Leman Russ' spot beneath the desk still sits empty.

You look over to see Anna in the bed. Her eyes are closed, and she appears to be sleeping.

A) "Wakey wakey. I heard the clerics said you were healthy again."

You step out of your boots and undo your robes. The new ones you have to wear as head inquisitor are much stiffer and tighter than your old one, and getting them off feels relaxing.

You walk over to the bed and slide in next to Anna, sliding your arm under her head and assuming your traditional sleeping position. She opens her eyes and smiles up at you, asking how your day was. You tell her about the mountains of paperwork, uncomfortable clothes, constant nagging, and of course the rock you had in your boot for about an hour during a meeting with the other heads that you couldn't get out because of course you can't just take your boots off in the middle of a meeting, like that or suddenly everyone gets bent out of shape. Anna laughs.

"But you're being paid wages from the city taxes now, aren't you? How much are you getting?"

You tell her that you'll be making nearly 10,000 gold a year now, mostly because the city wanted you to have more than a meager salary after what you did for it though. You don't know what you'll do with that kind of money.

"Well, we could always buy a big house in town with lots of furniture and a yard to play in, and maybe even save some of it for when he gets older."

You look at Anna in confusion, wondering what she means by "he". She takes your hand, and places it on her stomach. He.
