Last Time, on EDEN City Blues,
You are Sergeant Warrick Locke d’Angelo, MC1309018, on indefinite medical leave from UNAAF and today is the worst day of the month. As a mandatory part of the draft, you were given a neural implant to interface with communications. Yours doesn’t work properly, and the powers that be decided you make a better case study than a soldier. They gave you an apartment up in Beta, which you now share with an old friend, welfare stipends you spend on pain killers and hookers, no way back into the service, no way outside the walls of EDEN again, and nothing to do with your life.

You began to hunt down a man who goes by the name Fenix, and now you've been framed for what he's been mucking about with. He has some agenda, and an interest in you, but you're getting the heat for the two men he killed. You'd think the asshole would be trying to get you out , rather than using you as a fall guy.

And now for tonight's installment,
You’ve been stuck in the solitary cell for hours now. Years of inmates scuffing their shoes as they pace back and forth next to the bed in this narrow coffin of a cell have left their marks in the ground. The walls are covered in some kind of air blasted resin. Probably dozens upon dozens of layers of it between you and the steel. And when it dries, its endless blur gives a nauseating vertigo like you’re swimming in a white void, until you look away only to find it all around you. Even closing your eyes gives little reprieve, as the fluorescent bulbs are so old they flicker constantly, in a steady rhythm.

The bed you’re on is an old and corroding foam pad stained with bodily fluids from the other occupants. Specifically, they pissed themselves repeatedly. The kuzuri are on high alert for your cell, and have to come crashing down and banging on the steel walls with all their might to check on you directly if they ever detect that you haven’t moved in an hour or so. So just when you start drifting off to sleep, your body slipping into sleep paralysis, they come flying off the ceiling, their rotors screaming, and they hit the wall hard enough to bounce you out of bed in a daze of confusion, with a big ass sensor sweeping around the cell.

Could be worse though, could be an actual coffin. Every once in a while you get a piece of journalism talking about their time in prison, about the coffins they use. Inmates who get out of line get punished with solitary, but not the kind of cells they gave to you. You got a protective solitary cell so they don’t have to worry about you getting shanked while they’re finishing up the paperwork. The ones who act up get put in two meter long coffins with only a few centimeters between the end of your nose and the top of the coffin. They put these things in the very bottoms of the prisons, so you can hear the echoes of everyone around you and everyone walking around on your head, but the worst is the rats.

Could be worse. Could always be worse until you’re dead. Psychological torture isn’t going to make you confess to something you didn’t do, no matter how badly they want you to.

You’re standing against the polycarbonate seal on your cell. Years of stressed out inmates and angry kuzuri have scratched the thing so much it looks like there’s a light snow storm hanging over the common area of the prison. Hundreds of people, cityboarders mostly, are milling around below you, some watching you for lack of anything better to do. Even if you broke through the seal, apparently the walkway to the cells is retractable, so you’d have to jump down in the middle of hell and try to make it out from there, which might be worse odds than duking it out with a kuzuri barehanded.

Then the walkway shudders and starts extending out. Someone’s coming to visit, and you doubt it’s for the CZARhead next door.

You can’t quite hear their approach over the roar of the prisoners below you, but the walkway is only so long. You roll off the bed and get to your feet. The stifling heat in the prison form the mass of churning bodies below has made you break a sweat, staining your shirt and matting your hair to your head. Fatigue is probably also showing on you. All in all, you assume you look terrible, but you stand up and straighten yourself out the best you can regardless.

AS you brush your hair back and try to liven up your deadened gaze, you catch sight of them around the edge of your cell. Your hand freezes halfway back on your scalp as you stare. The seal on your cell slides out and starts opening up as you stagger back and the man stands at attention across from you. You glance around but here are no guards next to him, he came alone to see you. The people below are starting to whoop and holler, a thousand hands rising to point at him. “Good to see you Warrick. How’s the room service been? Did you get the lobster?” General Chase asks.

“Could be worse I suppose. They need to send a maid down here to clean up this bed though, people have been having too much sex on it or something,” you answer, habitually bringing your arms behind your back and standing at attention.

“Now that’s an impressive feat for a solitary cell.”

“I’ve been trying to figure it out myself for a while now, can’t quite cut it. When I requested a personal visit though, I wasn’t expecting you.”

General Chase laughs a bit, but then sets his face to stare at you, and you snap your back straight. “We should talk, in the interview room.”

>How do you proceed?
>>

>Follow him out.
>>
I would very much like to encourage all of you to expand on your choices and formulate and discuss plan, so I have more to go off of, including dialogue. If any of your have read my previous quests, you should know that I'm quite narrativist, and encouraging of these things.
>>
>>28865453
"Okay."
>>
“Of course, Sir,” you state, the humor gone from your voice. He nods and starts walking down the hallway. You follow behind him, marching at a quick pace with him. The kuzuri are all watching you, but none of them are making any moves. Perhaps they aren’t as hardcoded as you’d thought. The dirty masses below are jeering you, some are throwing insults at General Chase.

The doors on the way to the interview room all open automatically for the two of you, and you start to wonder why he didn’t restrain you in any way. A sign of good faith you suppose. “This should be the one,” he comments as he stops in front of the same interview room you were in earlier that day with Inspector Hughes. He opens the door and lets you enter first. You look around and take stock of the room, but don’t note anything terribly different. Just that the camera is fixated on you.

You stand at attention next to your seat at the table, waiting for him to sit first. He takes a moment to check that the door is locked before walking over to his seat. He pulls the metal chair out, the legs scraping along the ground and vibrating loudly, and sits without looking at you. You shift your feet a bit, scuffing against the floor. Out of respect, you wait for him to begin talking, and watch as you sighs and looks at his empty hands.

“Something has come up Warrick, which is why I’ve come here in person. Take a seat, will you? I’m too old to be craning my neck like this,” he says, gesturing towards your chair. You nod and take your seat across from him, but still maintaining your silence. “A certain programmer was nearly killed just a moment ago, by a rogue kuzuri. We recovered the device easily enough, the thing deactivated after the programmer did what was asked of him. He took a look inside the thing, and found something that we had thought impossible,” he says. He takes a pause to look at you, but you of course know nothing of these events. “Half of its coding was corrupted.” He points at you. “With your shit.”

You almost say something in response, but he continues, “And that’s why I’m here. I want to hear yoru side of this story out of your own mouth. Hughes is a good inspector, but he’s blunt and old, he doesn’t really get the delicacy of this situation so he won’t adapt. But I understand, I’m listening. So tell me, what do you think is going on out there? Why are you in here? And how did he kill my men?”

>What do you say?

It's probably a rogue AI.
>>
>>28866065
You'll want to give a better explanation than that
>>

Sorry, I can't think of anything else.
>>
“I’m pretty sure it’s a rogue AI by the name of Fenix. I didn’t do any of this,” you respond.

“Is that the best explanation you have?”

You shrug and lean back. “It’s the truth.”

“How did they get your corruption signature perfectly replicated?”

“As I said before, check your security on Landmaster, that’s where it came from afterall.”

“Why were you connected to all of those Twilight Key things?”

“He was using my servers as a proxy or something. I’m guessing you got this data from my spiders, so you should know why I made them.”

“What’s the deal with that simulation? And how did he kill someone on the other end of the net?”

“The sim is his home base as far as I can tell. As for the killing, I don’t have a clue. Talk to your son, all I know is it nearly split my skull in two when I logged in, but using my implant like that does that anyways.”

General Chase sighs and leans back. He stares at you, drumming his fingers along the steel desk. At first it’s a simple roll, but then he starts tapping them erratically. He’s either typing or playing a piano on the table as he stares at you. His voice snaps your gaze up to his. “I had hoped for something better than this. This was your last chance.”

He reaches inside his uniform and pulls out a small capsule. He shakes it in the air for a moment to show that there’s a pill inside, then sets it on the table in front of you. “What is that?” you ask.

“Insurance, unless you have a better explanation of course.”

“You want me to kill myself?”

“What? No. That would be immoral and a waste of resources. It’s just insurance. You may be on leave, but this is an order. Eat the pill,” General Chase says as he slides the pill closer to you.

“What does it do?” you ask as you pick it up.

“Don’t commit treason and you’ll never find out. It’ll pass harmlessly out of your system,” General Chase says as he sits back and crosses his legs. You crack open the capsule to get at the pill and take it out. He doesn’t make any indication of moving to get you water, so you simply drop it in your mouth and forcibly dry swallow it before opening your mouth to show it’s still not in there General Chase smiles. “Wonderful, and just in time too. According to our projections, your ride will be here in just a moment, so if you’ll excuse me,” he says as he smiles and stands up. You stand upas well, but he holds out his hand palm down. “No, you’re staying here, for the time being.”

He walks over to the door and knocks. The locks disengage from the door and he opens it up, giving you one last conceited smile before walking out and locking you in. “What the fuck?” you complain to the camera as he walks away, leaving you stuck in the room. You walk over to the door and rattle the handled, trying to force it back open but the locks have secured it shut already. At last you growl and kick the bottom of it hard enough to jam your toe.

Metal rips apart loud enough to make you flinch and jump against the door. You turn around to see the head of a train car ripping through the wall of the prison, slowly demolishing a path to you. You scramble away, hiding in the corner as the head of it comes to a rest imbedded in the far wall. As you stare in disbelief, you see a head pop out of the front door.

You don’t recognize the brown headed youth, but he seems to recognize you. He smiles and waves at you. “Yo, the man up top said to come get you, so the cavalry has arrived!” he announces before looking voer at the front of the train. “Aw man, what the fuck is this shit? There should be like, a huge fucking blood smear across this wall. Wasn’t Generalissimo in here with you? Fuck, that’s going to come back to bite us. Anyways! Move your ass and get on!”

“Who the fuck are you?” you ask as you get back to your feet. Wind is blowing in through the breaching scrape through the walls of the prison. The prisoners in the heart of the complex are shouting, a small riot may break out but it’s no longer your issue in the least.

“Call me Roi, and I’m your lord and savior. It’s also not the first time we’ve met,” he responds with a smirk. He’s standing with his arms crossed and his chest out, almost as if he were posing for a photo op. his hair is short, but pulled back and up in spikes. He’s wearing a thick pair of wraparound shades and an open trench coat with nothing on underneath. Strapped to his back is a cityboard. “Although I must say, you looked so much better the first time. If I hadn’t been on such a tight schedule I would have stayed to get to know you. Alas, the past is gone and now the two of us will have to take flight together,” he says as you push past him and step into the train.

As soon as you’re on the vehicle, the whole thing lurches and starts to pull back. The scraping of the train’s magents along the floor grates against your ears and makes you wince, but you recover in time to look out the window. The front half of the train is completely derailed and hanging off the end of the rails. “Come on, we’re going to disconnect this half and hope it doesn’t crush anyone when it falls,” Roi says as he slaps you on the back and jogs over to the connecting door to the passenger cars.

“This is your break out plan for me? Crash a train through the wall, back out and run away?” you ask as he pulls open the door and throws it open.

He looks back and nods. “Fuck yeah it is. You know how to cityboard, don’t you? Once the kuzuri come, that’s the only way to get away from ‘em.”

You can hear sirens blaring from all of the nearest towers. They’ll be coming for you soon.

>How do you proceed?

What's cityboarding? Can't we hijack a vehicle?
>>
>>28868495
There is no legal private transportation in EDEN aside from walking. If you need to get from point A to point B, you walk or take a train.

Many inhabitants have taken to the use of magnetic devices colloquially known as cityboards, to make use of the automatic alteration of magnetic field between the rails that the trains use. Strap one on your feet, jump on the magnetic cushion, and fly.

The magnets also allow you to latch onto power cords, walkways, walls, trains, and just about everything else in EDEN, allowing for maneuverability arguably greater than even a kuzuri, if you can stomach flying around dozens of meters above the ground with absolutely no safety gear.
>>
>>28868596
So basically Marty Mcfly-ing except with more magnets and GRINDING?

Do we have any experience doing that again?

“Be straight with me Roi, have you actually thought this through?” you ask as he reaches across to open the other door. Just as he does, the head of the train bumps against the wall and drops off. You shout in surprise as the floor pivots and falls away from under you. You scramble and catch the edge of the door, and see that Roi simple switched his footing and is standing on the side of the train as if nothing had happened.

“All the way?” he asks as he squats down next to you to grab your free hand.

“Yes all the way!” you respond, grabbing onto him and hauling yourself out of the train car. The one it’s connected to is swung off the rails and scraping against the near rail, trying to support the dangling end.

“Not at all! If plans don’t survive contact with the enemy, what’s the point in planning all the way through?” he answers. AS you catch your breath and climb into the still upright train car he stares off into the distance and whistles. “That was fast, kuzuri are already here. How good of a shot are you? I figure we should thin the herd while we can, know what I’m saying?”

“Boy, you better have some serious firepower if you expect me to take down a kuzuri, you say as the both of you stroll up to the next connection. “Wait, I thought you were going to disconnect that one?”

“Nah, I’ll blow the next one. This one is too far off anyways,” he answers as he kicks open the door. You get to watch the car ahead of you tilt up, just before your car follows up the incline, and the torque finally exceeds the critical point. Your eyes open as the car bumps and rocks, slowly tilting over before finally slamming on its side and swinging out over the rail. You’re knocked into the seats in a tangle with Roi who’s only laughing.

>>
The both of you jump to your feet and dive through the open doors to get into the third car. You drop to yoru knees, adrenaline pounding through you as you try to take stock. Roi walks back and starts fiddling with the emergency release as you look up. Three weapons cases are spread across the ground of the car. A grenade launcher, a set of handguns including a Lupa, and a gun you thought you’d never see again, the Zeus electric sniper rifle.

>How do you proceed?

Take a pistol and rifle.
>>
Zeus HRSR : Helical Rail Sniper Rifle, uses super capacitors to rapidly accelerate .50 caliber tungsten slugs down the length of the barrel. After every shot, special radiators have to open from the barrel to expel heat to prevent the barrel from warping and losing conductivity. Due to this, the firing rate is quite slow, but the speeds attainable by the acceleration are far beyond that of conventional firearms. The Zeus was produced by Jaeger Weapons and had only a limited production run as it is mainly an anti-material weapon unsuited for taking down organics.

This is what I was wasting my time writing, writing the actual update now
>>
You snatch up the Lupa, noting that there are only the six shots in the cylinder and no extras, and then pick up the Zeus. The thing is nearly untouched, probably only fired for factoring testing. The stock’s multi-stage shock absorption seems to be in perfect order, and only needs a bit of tweaking to adjust to your body size. A click of a button releases the heat radiators from around the barrel, expanding out like petals from a flower. If you had just fired, you would be able to see the heat refraction coming off of the alloy. You smile and slide them back shut. In the case are a stack of tungsten slugs, but the real limiter to your firing capacity is the charge packs, of which there only appear to be three. Nine shots if you’re lucky.

The train had been scraping along the rail, and vibrating slightly. Then Roi disconnected the trialing cars. The snap of metal sounded like a whip crack, but then the car lifted up on the magnetic cushion and quickly settled back in to place, a moment before you heard the two other cars crash into Gamma. In the distance you can hear people screaming, and kuzuri flying through the air. “Are you fucking insane? You actually did that?” you demand as you spin on Roi.

“Didn’t have much of a choice aniki, shit was slowin us down,” he explains with shrug.

“You just killed people! Possibly dozens of them!” you shout as he walks up next to you and grabs the grenade launcher.

“So it goes. Now are you going to help me take down these kuzuri trying to kill us, or not? I don’t have to be helping you right now you know,” he asks.

“Not like I have much of a choice,” you grumble as you look around for some way to set up. With nothing to set up to brace against or use as cover, you simply kneel down next to the edge o the door and brace against the wall as you take aim.

“That’s the spirit!” Roi shouts as he steps past you and dangles out the back of the train with one hand griping the edge of the door frame. “Come get some ya hunks of shit!” he shouts before taking aim with only one hand and firing wildly at the kuzuri. The grenade goes wide of where the closest one had been perched and blows a hole through the side of a tower.

You exhale to steady your nerves and watch the kuzuri. They’re leaping back and forth from tower to tower, only using their rotors when needed. Every once in a hwle they land on a billboard or crash through a holofield, a few power cords get tangled around them for a moment, but break and start sparking as they fall. The side to side motion proves too much for you to take a steady shot at, with how the train is raising up to Beta level, but then one fo them gives you an opportunity.

It lands on the rails, its magnets overpowering the magnetic fields of the rail system apparently, and it starts chasing after you. Just as it takes aim with its underslung armaments, you take yoru shot. The sonic crack of the slug chases after the projectile and you watch as the tungsten mass rips straight into the center of the beast. Certainly not enough to destroy it outright, but it catches one of the motors in the legs and forces it awry. You smile as the radiator fins spring open to vent heat. An instant later the kuzuri takes a misstep and misses the rail, slamming down on its side before tumbling over.

One down, five to go. But they won’t do that again.

“Oi, let’s kick this thing in overdrive. I’d rather bust out on a board when I’m not being shot at,” you say as you duck back around the corner. The heat radiation is necessary to keep the helical rails from warping out of shape, but it means that the firing rate is painfully slow at times. Furthermore, the spread is so large that you have to be careful where you point the barrel. But damn if it isn’t powerful.

“You sure that’s a good idea? No telling what’s ahead of us,” roi asks as he starts pull himself back in and launches two more grenades out at the approaching kuzuri. The explosives wreck a billboard and nearly drop it on top of one, but it dodges around, the second melts a footpath, shattering the railings around it.

“EVE will take care of it, I don’t feel like fighting five kuzuri with no back up,” you respond as you snap the radiator fins back into the barrel.

“Sure, why the fuck not. The whole thing is ready for neural commands,” he responds before you hear the report of a machine gun. He shouts and tries to roll aside, but the stream of bullets rips through the floor of the train, chasing after him until it catches him in the leg and chest.

You swear, but your training kicks in and you focus on speeding up the train. You certainly can’t give him any kind of treatment while they’re still shooting at you. The programming for the train accepts the command easy enough, the whole system seems to have been overwritten recently.

1/2
>>
As the maglev train lurches forward and starts speeding up, you dash over to your savior. He’s cursing and swearing incoherently, but digging around in one of his pockets. He produces another military trinket, foam plugs. “Help me get to this shit,” he asks as he rips open the packet with shaking hands. You nod and pull his coat open, and rip the holes in his pants open wider. “Alright, I got this now,” he says before biting into the first plug to trigger the reaction and stuffing it in the nearest bullet hole.

He grunts in pain as the compound starts rapidly expanding and bubbling out of him before sealing shut to maintain pressure. He starts with the second pack as you turn back around to take aim at the kuzuri. The five of them are falling behind.

Then EVE contacts you, screaming in your head loud enough to break your concentration. “Just what the hell do you think you’re doing you inconsiderate jerk? You’re destroying my city!”
