You are Qrane, an automaton of some function.

And at the moment, that is all you know. Except that that surely isn't normal. You're sure at one point you did indeed know things.

There are many pertinent questions and actions at the moment, aside from supporting the wall.

Which is your first?

You've been hearing a humming sound at the pit of your robot stomach, so you decided to investigate. Like a frog blinking with a second lens, there is suddenly this screen.

... Ah. This would explain things. Or at least, it will. When it's finished. You'll know who you are and why you've been put on this planet in a moment. Great!

You could just sit and wait for that, but to say the suspense is killing you is a bit of an understatement.

You start to get up, but you don't like it. In fact, sitting right back down where you were seems like the most pleasant non-activity in the world. But the sensation of pins and needles begins to ebb away, the more you locomote. But you still don't like it! Not in the least.

You look about. To your left is more pitch black wall, but to your right is a column of light, and one rather tall step to get up to it. Almost as if this passage is a strange ditch of architecture.

You do just that after a brief scan of the area. The scaling part is easier than you think. Evidently, you're a very powerful hopper. You jump your own height like it's nothing.

Afterwards you find yourself in the dead center of a long hallway.

To your left there is a hissing sound of gale winds.

To your right you feel the tremors to the bassline of some strange, vaudeville ditty.

And for some reason you're wary of approaching either of them.

if this quest updates really slowly then another venue may serve you better. otherwise a thread may get deleted while you sleep. such as tgchan [/spoiler
>>
>>28964482
What is considered quickly VS slowly?
>>
>>28964563
1 hour is the average update speed of a quest on /tg/
once a week is the update speed on tgchan
>>
>>28964563
well, could you possibly take over an hour to draw all the pictures for an update? if so then it could be considered pretty slow. if you also need to take more then one break per thread then that means life interference is really high too, which would be another reason to move it. is early enough that just re-posting everything that has happened so far would be easy and preferred.
>>
>>28964687
har har., no, the average is actually 1-2 times a day. with some up to 5 times. usually because they are art quests and take their time drawing.
>>
>>28964756
Lagotrope is the only one who updates that quickly and you know it
>>
>>28964798
Rust also updates several times a day. the suggestion rate is way greater then the update rate anyway. can post an update, get 10 suggestions in a few minutes. and then they wait.

>only touch the black tiles

You decide to investigate the source of the wind, and begin hopping in a winderly direction.

Only across the black tiles though. Every moment of safety thus far has been on dark surfaces, so you'll stick to what you know. It turns out hopping is much faster than walking, and doesn't seem to drain you any. It is slightly louder.

This goes on for awhile. Long enough to put major distance between you and that strange musical vibration you heard/felt from the direction you didn't choose. What you come to eventually is a doorway with no barrier. Leading to a balcony without rails. But beyond that is far stranger. Wherever you happen to be is extremely high. You're above most cloud cover. Cloud cover so thick there's not a single gulf to see what's below it.

The breeze is swift and frightfully cold. It doesn't bother you any, personally, but your program tells you it would greatly bother you if you were a bipedal mammal. You take a moment to wonder what good that does you.

You could, in theory, go out onto the balcony. But you're not sure what more there is to learn out there that you couldn't surmise in here, in the comfort of dark tile footing. Is that balcony going to crumble or not? You feel pretty light, but then again, you're not a mason.

only 5 of the 15 quests on the front page could be considered furry. and even then 'furry' just means it has non-humans. like a tiny bird person, lizardman, harpy, and various aliens.

the suggestion count is very good. it's slow because the quest runners don't produce 20 updates a day like the quests on /tg/.

for an example, top most quest has gotten 17 suggestions since the last update.

A robust, steam-billowing armored robot on several trackballs mows down the hallway. "VICTORIA" is engraved on the back of its joining midsection.

VICTORIA leaves the floor behind warm, damp, and impeccably clean. Perhaps a custodian robot equipped for guard duty?

In any case, it will definitely take VICTORIA awhile to reach the balcony and then turn around.

Now what?

While I'm sure it can move faster if we provoke it, how quickly is VICTORIA moving compared to our hopping/running speed? I vote we follow the hallway to the right, but it would be nice to have a rough idea of how much time we have to find another hiding spot.

This is kind of a pedantic question, but is the text in these drawings WYSIWYG, or is it translated into English? If it's translated for our benefit, is VICTORIA written in the same alphabet as our diagnostic overlay?
>>
>>28973423
I suggest we follow it, if only because it seems to have a more solid purpose than we do.

On second thought, we could try talking to the fellow...probably a terrible idea, actually.
>>
>>28973996
The only thing where it is going is that balcony. It is a pretty safe assumption that what it will do is reach the end of the hallway, then turn around and work its way back in the other direction. Maybe VICTORIA is benign or even friendly to us, but I feel like it's safer for us to keep our distance until we figure some more things out.

You briskly skip the hallway for a hot second until you suddenly come across... this.

Another nook, but leveled with the rest of the hallway. Hard to say if this could keep you hidden from VICTORIA the way the other place did.

Different wallpaper here. Seems to be an elevator, judging by the button panel.--Which a short, childlike robot is desperately reaching at. Might as well by miles away. He's got no chance, but he tries so hard.

You want to be a good neighbor to this tiny little robot. You try 'Hello' but it doesn't come out that way. The first letter sounds alright, but you quickly divebomb into static.

You realize you do have a voice--as you figured--but it's offline. It's likely one of the many things that's coming with that reboot.

Likewise, you ALMOST recognize what the little stranger said back. Again, the first letter sounded a little familiar, but everything else sounded completely alien.

You'll have to figure out a better way to communicate. After your new friend realizes the same thing, he makes the same gestures as before to the buttons. Problem is you can't tell which button he wants to press. All he needs is reach. And all you need is your damn reboot to complete.

But as you're putting away the dangerous looking clay ball and what is either clackers or a bola, you have an off-cuff idea. As the little robot brandishes the key as he would a lance, you use your static to unleash a radical snarl, posing as though you were a deadly manticore.

You can't help but throw a 'champion's belt' around the only kind thing you've ever known in your whole life--technically.

And now you're sort of hoping the reboot doesn't unturn a program with less than stellar attitudes.

I'm gonna have to continue this in the morning, I think.

Your little robot friend hasn't seen it yet. It's hard to see at all in fact. You two aren't alone in this elevator shaft. What appears to be a big--no, HUGE--damn lizard is stuck to the wall above, camouflaged to the wallpaper.

It's only a matter of time before the platform catches up with it, and spatulas it off the wall where you assume it was resting.

I want to be able to look back on this months from now and not hate my hastiness. No matter what, don't think I've run away.

You spring to your feet and 'scarf' your friend backwards with you. He doesn't seem as alarmed as you. Until you point and show him what you've backed away from. Then he looks MORE alarmed than you.

The elevator reaches the lizard's tail. As it begins curling up on impact, the lizard awakens. And makes some audible groggy, growling noises.

The lizard crankily slides onto all fours and casts tired lateral eyes across the room.

Once it sees you, it freezes up, and begins flicking its tongue. Hissing as it does so. A moment passes and it edges your way in a circle. It's not afraid to get closer to you, and your little friend doesn't need to be gestured a second time to keep behind you.

There's little room for ambiguity. This is a hostile. You have no idea how combat-oriented you were ever designed to be. Your scarf is a potent limb by its own right, enough for simple tasks both short and long range, but it doesn't have the same heft as your legs.

It's gradually getting closer. Now what?

We should leave the key to the little guy, he might need it and we don't have arms.

While I can't see the bolas working as bolas here, if you were to grab them in your scarf it would make an effective flail/mace. You probably could hop around fast enough to keep away from it's claws and teeth, and the combination of jumping forward and whipping your scarf round would put a hell of a lot of energy into the hard balls.

Also, don't try to corner it.
We're looking to drive this thing away, not to fight it to the death.

You suddenly remember a swinging weapon in your inventory, prompting you pull it back out and tie it with your scarf AROUND your scarf-; Easier said than done, but you do it quick enough.

You leap like around like a madman--fabulously so--swinging your clackers to the floor where the lizard is about to step next. This annoys him greatly, in a "Who are you to judge me until AFTER I've done the horrible deed?" sort of way. You imagine creatures like this really envy the problem-solving skills.

He edges closer, regardless how flashy you make your warning sign, and he gets smacked in the face for it. It's his own fault, but he snarls like it's yours.

He rears back like he's ready to pounce.

Your little friend has never seen anything so mad hype in his life.

I have a cintiq. An overpriced, basic-sized cintiq. I don't recommend buying it. There's a new one coming out that's bigger, reportedly better-performing, and 600 dollars cheaper. Check it. http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=113&cp_id=11314&cs_id=1131401&p_id=10707&seq=1&format=2

It does take a bit of getting used to any new tablet. And that's mostly about getting the calibration and pressure settings just right, counterbalancing THAT with the program you use and its tools and then getting all the hotkeys all how you like them. It takes awhile. Some of my best stuff is still drawn on index cardstock.

Not the QM. But Gesture Drawing is a pretty good place to start. It's simple, quick, can be a lot of fun, and is a completely necessary skill to be a good artist. It's also a good way to start seeing some early improvement for motivating yourself.

http://www.proko.com/how-to-draw-videos/

Check this site's videos under the figure section(the bottom video is the first one) and work your way up. Then go on to learning construction and perspective(I suggest Loomis's Fun With A Pencil and Norling's Perspective Made Easy for this). Proko also has a few good videos for fundamentals.

Also, check out the /ic/ sticky links. /ic/ itself might vary in degrees of helpful but their sticky is pretty decent.

You're not looking to get squashed under him, either.

A split second after you feel your left axekick connect, your body is flexed counter-clockwise, lending momentum into your right foot. This leads into a flat-footed kick, planted firmly in the lizard's chest.

This completed double-attack launches the lizard away from you. And in this gap of safety, you wonder if that was all some form of muscle memory returning to you.

You put your clackers away, concluding that they are probably not clackers at all, but bolas. They wouldn't have been very effective as such against this particular opponent.

You want to victory dance like the best of them, but truth be told you're a little tired from beating so much lizard senseless. Your little dude has you covered, though. >>
>>29042602
/tg/ is moot's least favorite board, because he doesn't understand how we exist

Why god, why? What did I do to you?

Haven't been on this board long, admittedly...

So, new thread, Qrane?
>>
I've created a tumblr for this.

I'm trying to figure out how disqus even works when you have it enabled. Seems to be a hassle.

Is there a tumblr theme that would work particularly well for this kind of thing? I'm willing to get a pay one if need be.

Do you have a twitter? A lot of QM's use them to organize their quests and keep people updated about threads.
>>
>>29044169
Twitter is much easier to use for quests.

>Do you have a twitter
I do now.
https://twitter.com/QraneQuest
I've never ACTUALLY used it before, though. Any examples of how people have used them for quests?
>>
>>29044499

I use mine to inform people of when I expect to run, and to let them know if I have to cancel a session. It's pretty straightforward, use it as a scheduling tool.

I also tend to link my threads there once I make them, to help people find them faster.

Post quest related content only please, try not to spam random shit on it.

Here is the only twitter for a drawquest I know: https://twitter.com/HeroRena

Qrane is not my normal alias. I created the Qrane trip solely because of this quest. I am not Qrane. You are.

So only Qrane-related stuff would appear on the eponymous tumblr and twitter.
>>
>>29044521
What about your outlet for suggestions? Do they use twitter for that?
>>
>>29044614
I know you're Scribblehatch and all that, I meant post stuff related to Qrane quest on the twitter like when you're going to run it and details about the world and characters, or random drawings.
>>

I assume you mean player suggestions. I sometimes have twitter conversations with followers, but I don't do that over twitter, just in the quest.

Are you referring to player decisions, as in, what to do next in the quest, or actual feedback on the quest itself?

>Are you referring to player decisions, as in, what to do next in the quest, or actual feedback on the quest itself?
Well, the former. But the latter too, actually.
>>
>>29044806

I handle in-quest player decisions exclusively through the threads.

If there are a lot of participants, I'll allow them time to discuss strategies. Then I'll list the most popular threads of thought with numbers, like this:

Vote 1:
>go left

Vote 2:
>go right

Then each person votes by linking my post along with a single number. This allows me to count the votes quickly and mitigate people that samefag in favor of their choice.

Many times the most popular choice is clear, and I don't have to bother holding a vote. I only get that elaborate when there's a lot of contradictory opinions or I've got a lot of people participating.

As to feedback, I tend to hold a "meta" discussion after each thread, in which participants can ask out-of-character questions, I can get opinions, and we can have a back-and-forward over what happened in the quest
>>
I know /tg/ is pretty slow (at least compared to /v/), but jesus christ I've been waiting literally ALL DAY for a new update
>>
>>29048103
I assume he stopped because he hit the bump limit
>>
>>29048103
Oh. I'm on intermission. There may be an update in a few hours.

And yeah.
>>29048202
There will be a new thread for it.
