After all, if the child becomes ruled by fear, then there is no hope or imagination to sustain the toy, ending their lives.

Good morning Snoogles, Banki, Bonky, Oracle and numerous other tripfags and repeat anons. Today you witness a VERY special treat.

Our lucky contestants are going to attempt a PLAY BY POST of Nightlight.

Will the game break within minutes? Will the monsters be incredibly OP? Will our dashing toys be ridiculously untouchable?

Find out on this weeks...

NIGHTLIGHT: PLAYTEST EDITION: THE PRIMALS CAN'T EVEN TOUCH ME ON THIS LEVEL: SECRET SPECIAL ANNIVERSARY DELUXE BOX SET

Have fun gang. I'll pop in and out when I can to check on you guys (as always) since I've got a party to go to tonight.
>>
>>28984638
... Barely. We have a task resolution mechanic for the players (Dice pool using d6-2 to count successes and failures), and a kind of hazy thing about weapons (on hit they do damage to location) but we haven't yet really worked the whole thing out... I'm looking forward to seeing how this playtest turns out. It's probably going to involve a lot of us laughing and writing rules on the fly.

I'm All Wound Up Lobstrosity, where do we go from here?

Feel free to create one you beautiful bastard. That's what the game is about. I'd be wary of posting it here until the DM returns, simply because it may get confusing for them to see multiple character sheets.

Bonky's stats:
First you hear the honking. That's when you should run if you're a monster. If you don't run at the honking, run at the giggling. I'd say run at the mallet being slammed into the back of your skull, but you won't be able to run. Bonky's one of the older toys - he was given to the child when they were much younger, around 5 years old. Despite the time since then, Bonky hasn't matured in the slightest and makes a point of never doing so at all. But he's a nice enough guy once you get to know him - just keep him away from any custard pies in the area.

Also, other fun fact, that very picture in the OP inspired me to make a character similar to this whole concept. To see an RPG based on it is awesome.

Extra picture of an awesome hat and the tonberry. Maybe you could make him an ally? :P

Guess we do.
Fellas, before we start, I just want to say this:
When's the last time before us /tg/ got shit done? It seems to me that it's been at least a year since /tg/ last did something like this. And look at how far we've come in just a few short days: 5 threads and we took it from speculating about a setting to having made a system. Sure, it's basic. Sure, it'll be a lot better when it's done. But you know why it'll be better when it's done? Because of us, the same reason it's good now. You made this system good, /tg/. I'm proud of you.

>>
>>28984964
Not your fault. Game creation is all about learning curves.
Now.. Skills skills skills is there anything in the current rules that needs better definition? Guts got filled in in the v0.02 design document, so that's great, but we still need to explain Carouse... what if that was a means of recruiting *a little extra*... like, get X successes on carouse, and recruit a few more guys over the total fellowship score...

it just needs to be well-adjusted.

Now... Among the current party, none of us have access to any Real Light weapons, and let's not use Fire at all just yet... it's something we'll add later.

Damn Lob, U scary.

>>

Why not keep your combat resolution loose like (someone had to make the comparison eventually) Puppetland? This doesn't seem like the kind of game that needs lots of crunch.
>>
Okay folks: Before we begin Mock Combat, here is a quick Refresher on the closest thing we have to Rules for Combat.

You get three actions per initiative pass: A Major action, a Minor action, and a Reaction.
Major Actions are done at full dice pool, no penalties, on your turn.
Minor Actions are done at a one-die penalty, also on your turn.
Reactions are done at a two-die penalty, and are done in response to an enemy action. You get one of these per initiative pass.

You cam nake any kind of skill check as any kind of action.

So If you want to stand on top of a hill of dirty laundry, sword in one hand, rifle in the other, chopping a Creeper down on one side, and blowing the legs off another with your shotgun in the other... you can.

Or if the creeper moves from out of cover, you can use reaction to take a shot at him with your rifle.
>>
>>28985275
Thank you.

And, just so it's clear, I'm not trying to intrude in on your playtest. :)

I just wanted to make a character based on my favorite plushie.
>>
>>28985295
So do we get to hire companions first? I kind of designed the monsters thinking that the players would have NPC support.
>>
>>28985295
Can you refresh me on how the dice rolls work out, as in how high to roll for a success/how low to fail?
>>
>>28985249
Whatever you can imagine, with DM approval can technically be considered a perk. Want your army man to have a parachute on his back?

Quirk:
Freeeeeeeeeee Free Falling: Sgt Reve Stogers can use his parachute to glide from higher altitudes to solid ground safely

Want your stuffed toy to also be a squeaky toy?

Quirk:
Pillsburry Giggle: Any damage done to the torso activates Mr. Bearbears' squeak mechanism and will draw attention

Want your Constructable (LEGO/Bionicle/whatnot) to be able to remove his head?

Quirk:
Don't Lost your Head: Charles the Constructor may remove his head and hide it another location, although his body becomes rather clumsy afterwords.

It makes it so our system allows for some whimsy, as long as the GM agrees

>Quoted from Puppetland
For a bad example of play:
Puppet Master: “Okay, the door bursts in and there’s a bunch of those nutcracker guys standing there. One of them yells at you to stop.”
Actor 1: “Let’s get out the back door, and fast!”
Actor 2: “I pick up the rock and throw it at a nutcracker!”
Puppet Master: “You throw the rock and smash the nutcracker’s jaw. He can’t bite anymore."

For a good example of play:
Puppet Master: “And then, the door burst down! Three nutcrackers stood there, one of them still chomping on the doorknob. ’Stop, you mangy puppets!’ cried one.
Actor 1: “Run! Run out the back door! We must escape the nutcrackers!"
Actor 2: “Where is that rock? Here it is! I shall hurl this rock and smash your greedy mouth, nutcracker!"
Puppet Master: “The rock flew across the room and hit the first nutcracker in the jaw. ’Rmmf!’ cried the injured nutcracker. ’He
cannot bite nor chomp!’ cried another. And he was right: the nutcracker's jaw was broken in two"

...
>Not enough greentext in the world.

Yeah, that isn't going to be our resolution system.
>>
>>28985375
Also, one last question.

The Tonberry has a plush knife and lantern sewn onto him. How many points in accessory do I need for them to stay/be useful?
>>
>>28985444
You get as many pieces of starting equipment as your Armory rating, so Accessory+Skill points invested in armory. Technically, if you don't want to spend skill points, you'd need Acc 2.
>>
>>28985444
Well our GEAR system is......unrefined at the moment. Focus on some brawl and toughness for the knife and the lantern is basically out. Light in our game is the end all be all against monsters. It's a fucking megaton nuke. Or keep it and just claim that it's powered by Imagination, which will keep you at level with the other players.
>>
So will companions be a thing for this game?
>>
>>28985409
>I shall hurl this rock and smash your greedy mouth, nutcracker!

R.I.P. my sides
>>
>>28985481
>>28985474

Could he have the lantern's light as a Quirk once per day smite kind of thing? I will admit to kinda taking a pseudo paladin archetype with him.

Either that or it's a bludgeon that emits no light.
>>
>>28985357
Dice pool system: Stat+skill, Roll that many d6's.
Subtract 2 from the results of each d6 to find the number of successes.
So Lucky 13 is using "Watch your toes!" to perform a hit & run on a creeper. He has 5 toughness, and 2 in brawl, so he rolls 5+2=7 total dice on his brawl attempt.

His 7d6 rolls are... pic related (4, 5, 1, 2, 1, 2, 3)
4-2 = 2
5--2= 3
1-2= -1
2-2= 0
1-2= -1
2-2= 0
3-2= 1
Well well... looks like luck isn't on his side today. 2+3-1+0-1+0+1=4 successes. if the monster has a 5 defense, Lucky didn't hit it.
>>
>>28985409
I don't mean that you should consider using their silly rule of no narration being allowed outside of IC voice (although that's comedy gold). I'm just saying something that is all skill and action based, rather than just having an "attack" stat and making vague "attacks" every turn kind of fits the imaginative setting more.

>>
>>28985357
IF we are using my old system from the last thread...

For combat it was Stat+Related skill=Dice Pool

Toughness (2)+Brawl (3)=5

our system is d6-2 so 5d6 with minus 2 to each

So our rolls look like:

5-2=3
6-2=4
4-2=2
2-2=0
1-2=-1

For a total of: 8

The enemies DR is 6 on whichever limb you were aiming at so 8 exceeds 6 and we hit. Yay!

Damage is calculated on the GEAR. Bonky's hammer does 1d10 damage.

We roll and get a 7
The limb we were aiming at has 3 hp

Limb is now crippled, or if headshot, creature is now dead! Yay!

For skill/RP based stuff I can only assume it'd be the same except you're trying to exceed a number the DM has in his head.

ur mum m8e

Honestly laser pointers aren't that big of an issue and light up functions can be attributed to Imagination light or take a Quirk to make them operate, at DM discretion.
>>
>>28985781
So would imagination light be okay? I didn't want the lantern to glow offensively, aside from the daily.
>>
>>28985695
Yeah, the night, to toys, is "hollywood blue". They can see just fine.

Actual physical damage doesn't hurt monsters, what hurts them is light...

But not all toys light up or have LEDs or Lasers... instead, Toy weaponry produces imaginary light... So that plushy knife your Tonberry wields? It glints and gleams with the light of imaginary malice each time he strikes a monster. And, with the right quirk, his lantern could bloom with a real light attack once per night.

Imaginary Light = Basic damage. Most monsters can resist this easily.
Real Light = Penetrating damage. Mom flipping on the light switch is like a bomb going off to the monsters.
Fire = The primal light, Aggravated damage. The sun coming up is like a NUKE to monsters.

>>28985739
They face much more powerful enemies, and enemies are much more aggressive in their destruction of the light-bearers.

I'd think if it's a minor reduction, sure. If you want a major reduction, make it one of those 'directable' lanterns, the one's with a little flap you lift up.

I'd assume one of your quirks is going to be Tonberry's Karma skill, right?

Can you believe I even used to go by Aznaught. Oh those were the days.

ALSO

Where the fuck is Banki? I'm gonna say that we wait for a bit longer just to give him some time and then someone else take the DM mantle. Not it
>>
>>28985873
we've been dealing with small things for quirks... like 1 success... make it "within 1 space", that should be fair.

Remember: our spacing is toy-scale, which is really highly mutable.
>>
About the system, don't you think you (partly we) have added unnececcary skills? Like carouse for example. How can it help? It's not like toys are going to drink alcohol, and not that toys would do so as they are childrens' toys.
>>
>>28985973
Carouse is just a fancy way of saying 'morale booster'.

We could easily argue for cutting a skill from each stat, though the 5x5 thing is nice and round.
>>
>>28985973
We've just been talking about that up-thread... Carouse is out bard skill... it adds successes to the rolls of nearby toys.
>>
>>28985899
I was going to ask about that. I was going to make the Chef's Knife ability a once per day smite, but if the Lantern covers it, I dunno.

What would be permissible for the karma skill?

Hey I just wanted to give you a heads up that your skills on Lucky 13 are lower than the other players. You take the attribute number and disperse it into the related skills and then disperse the 25 points. You can only have a max skill of 10.
>>
>>28986185
I had a question about that - is it a flat attribute bonus to each of its skills, or do you spread that bonus? So does a character with Toughness 5 get +5 to every Toughness skill, or spread 5 points among them?
>>
>>28986185
Oh, i just wrote down the skill points. When it says
>Dodge: 2
What i really mean is
>Articulation 2 + Dodge 2 = 4 dice

Your dice pool is Stat + Skill.

if you have a 5 Toughness, then spend 5 skill points on "endure", you have a dice pool of 10 for endure checks.

Big Pants Santa (Constructable)

Quirks:
- Santa's Presents Bag - Big Pants Santa's friends can use his accessory skills once before a combat and once during combat. Santa needs to be inactive for one round giving presents to other toys to use them in battle.
- I bring the new year! - Against christmas toys and christmas related monsters, Big Pants Santa gains a +2 to all rolls.
- Christmas Elves, ready to serve! - Santa's trusty elves help him prepare for combats. Outside of combat Santa gain a +2 to all accessory rolls.
- Frosty on the sleigh! - Santa summons his faithful companion, frosty. This is a free action. For a single round all enemies are slowed down and Santa's melee weapons are infused with the cold winter's touch. His melee weapons slow an enemy for 1 round.

Proposal to change 'Lie' to 'Create' -
"Create" would cover all the same territory that lie does, but have a far more positive connotation. It also allows for magic involving markers, the usage of imaginary objects, and the transmogrification of existing objects into imaginary representations (such as needle->sword).

'Create' could include 'The Floor is Lava' spell or bringing drawings to life (as an anon in the previous thread wanted to do), which would both be under its purvey of transmogrification. But it could also cover bluffs and plans and such too!
>>
>>28986748
If it's Russian, work off of that? Teddy bears do seem kind of generic.
>>
>>28986754
>His melee weapons slow an enemy for 1 round.
This is an effect that lasts for the rest of the combat. This ability is usable only once per fight.

I'm only making this character to test the system. I do not intend for him to be in the game itself. However, I will say that you are all gentlemen and this is an awesome idea. I couldn't think of a 4th perk, but ideas would be welcome. Also, Text limits mean I have to split this in half.

Ton Ton the Tonberry
A plush derived from a popular video game, Ton Ton was purchased in the highlight of his Small's youth, to which she played with him every day. Many of the games Ton Ton found himself in were where he played the role of the knight, the humble and the protector rather than a creature to be feared. As such, when the horrors of the night came knocking, Ton Ton took up his Chef's Knife and Lantern and swore to protect all he held dear.

Ton Ton is very much a team player, and is willing to do what he can to help those who will aid his Small in turn. As such, he is also willing to lay his plush life on the line, even if it should mean that his life will be forfeit. For the sake of the Small.

>>
>>28991150
They're all off playtesting in roll20 now, and will most likely be returning to write up a new set of rules with some of the omissions written out. I've been observing and already combat, initiative, and base stats have changed since they began.
>>
PLAYTEST UPDATE:
The noble heroes Bonky, Dogface, Ton-Ton and Snuggles have just vanquished a wasp, after time was spent talking, HONKing and doing other general RPG stuff. Combat seems to work okay - weapons deal a lot of damage, but I built those monsters to work in mass combat situations with dozens of grunts at a minimum in any encounter. Damaging weapons shouldn't be an issue.
>>
>>28990430
It's going very well so far.
Decisions so far:
intitiative = Toughness + Articulation, dice pool.
Heroes win ties... ALL ties.
We need to work out Attack vs. Defense.
>>
>>28991294
Tracking so many creatures isn't very fun, though.
>>
>>28991345
Possibly we could work out horde rules? Like, all monsters of a certain type move on the same turn and can effectively work as one creature if they're next to each other?
>>
>>28991294
Other things we've discussed:
-The amount of dice is way too big for 1v1.
-Aiming for body parts: easy or no?
>>
Do we have any rules for things like model kits?
>>
Ok, here we are, Big Pants Santa's propositions:

Major:
- Fix the dice imbalance. Having a range of 1 to 20 in most dices is creating too many randomness. It's all over DnD 0ed again. What i suggest is making it some sort of
d6 = rolls 1 = -1 success
d6 = rolls 2 = 0 success
d6 = rolls 3 = 0 success
d6 = rolls 4 = +1 success
d6 = rolls 5 = +1 success
d6 = rolls 6 = +2 success

- Instead of separate endurance/guts/dodge for defense, depending on the attack (Brawl vs Guts, Aim vs Dodge) the defense reduces the number of dices (minimum 1).

Minor:
- Some skills are more useful than others. We need to design more uses for some of them.

- Balance "spellcasting" a bit.

- Create rules for weapons, companions and more complicated rules for monsters.
>>
Also, let's keep it simple. Aiming body parts should be nonexistant, or at least determined by the same roll for hitting (somehow). Same reason i proposed no separate defense rolls.
>>
>>28992259
Thats what I was originally thinking.
>>
>>28992315
>>28992395
SHIT. Accidentally closed the tab! D:
>>
>>28991797
Constructable, I'm assuming?
>>
>>28992505
That would work
>>
>>28992259
After watching the playtest I feel like all of these are pretty good options
>>
Also, we need to minimize the use of articulation skills and make a system for fellowship skills.

Marko did a good job imrpovising on intimidation, but we should find a more stable use.
>>
>>28992900
Isn't Intimidation just the Frighten skill?
>>
>>28992900
>>28992856
>>28992660
>>28992920

Also, a base land speed would be nice, instead of having to rely upon Articulation.
>>
So, was it ever discussed how leveling with work in this?
>>
>>28992944
Now we have one! 4+art
>>
>>28993395
I know that now. :P
>>
>>28993284
Probably the GM will hand out skill points, items, or extra quirks as the game progresses
>>
>>28992315
extra successes over goal for hit can be used for aiming.
>>
>>28993695
I like this system.
>>
Update: Empower is hella OP
>>
>>28993763
And Swarms need defenses vs. ranged attack.
>>
>>28993773
Well, that was a hell of a night... Basic movement speed = 4+articulation, Or you can Scramble for 2x successes. Good for low-articulation, high-speed characters.
>>
Well, before we call it a night (or day for some) i will also suggest here that we make a stable forum. We can discuss ideas here and then post them on the forum, as finalization.

Alright! Snuggles the Bear here with a summary of all the rule changes and how the Test Game went.

>Changes:
>Rolling Toughness+Articulation = Initiative

>weapons do amounts of damage decided by the player + GM input: 1d8-1d12 is normal, additional dice added through empowered weapons.
Unarmed damage is d6's normally. it encourages weapon use.

>Heros win all ties. Always.

>"You can dodge many times as necessary, -1 die per attempt" ruling

>move A spaces+successes for a scramble check when A equals your Articulation

> Empower requires reworking as it is currently hella OP

We didn't have magic because magic isn't fully in the system. Empower was really OP. But we are going to nerf it.

I just had a weird Idea: What would cards do? Like yu-gi-oh or magic cards?

Be a reliable way to kick back and relax for the toys?

Though of course they mostly prefer good games of poker while 'smoking' candy cigarettes in the toybox foxhole readying for the next attack.

I just imagine a toy version of Black Company.

I was thinking they could be used to boost imagination based magic. If one wants to use fireball, and has the fireball mtg card, shouldn't it help them visualize it?

Hm so what about old school toys like ones made of tin or clay even? Plus what about reptiles and villainous toys?

Speaking from experience my lizard is old as fuck and hate a caterpillar bigger then he was. I am certain that old fucker could kick some serious ass. Plus you have pet spiders, lizards, scorpions, snakes, even fish.

Pet spiders I could see acting as a potent force if you get them riled, their debuffing would be powerful. Reptiles would be powerful but usage would be limited. If their too far away from their heat source they will rapidly lose effectiveness. Good for a lightning strike or if somehow you can adjust the heater. Fish I have no idea about them.

Villain wise I see them preferring to work with the other toys over dying even if they're crazy/cracked doesn't mean their stupid. They may have some real dirty tricks up their sleeves and more after all their motherfucking villains. Hell they may even have their own special breed of companions aka minions.

As for what about other places besides the child's room at night? You could have unknown threats(all those spawn points) or even allies coming in from afar(attic relics or big bros forgotten toys anyone?)What if they have to get up to use the bathroom or something?
>>
>>28998939
Pets still need to be detailed- I think lizards would be wise, but odd.

Villains still care about their kid, and want to keep him or her safe

In the play test, we had combat in a car at one point.

Things I, as the GM, learned.
1. Defenses and Hit Points need to be reworked for the swarm creatures:
Endure pool of 7, Dodge pool of 4 meant that ranged attacks picked them off easily, while they managed to actually survive a blow from an empowered clown mallet. Also: 2hp / Dr 1 means not a damn thing when players do 1d10+1d4 damage.

2. Yes, empower needs to be reworked, but since it is not defined yet, 90% of what we did with it was all stuff I made up.

3. combat goes fast. most of our slowdowns were rules debates, which in a play test is an excellent thing. as we make better decisions, we will improve this game.

4. Magic needs to be better written: Big Pants Santa used Neverland or Empower nearly every turn, Neverland as a teleportation, or a summoning, or offensively.

5. Intimidation stealth ruling: -1 success to enemy attacks per 4 player successes.

6. Wasps are bastards, clown hammers are excellent projectiles. And I roleplay a 2nd grader like a boss.
>>
Oh, and if anyone wants to make a new character based on things you thought of today or last night for the next play test, it will be *almost* completely unrelated to last nights game. Play test narrative rules are in effect.

I need to tell you of a real toy i know, who protects it's master from all the fears in the world.
Trevor's Teddy is smelly and blood stained. The battery in his cuddly heart has long gone flat. Trevor's teddy is the only other person that can see Trevor's long dead relatives. Trevor always argues and fights with the memories of his family, yet when he is holding his Teddy, he stops arguing, he stops snarling, spitting and swiping at thin air. Instead he smiles, looks deeply into his Teddy's eyes and whispers so quietly you can't tell what he is saying.
Trevor's Teddy's eyes however, they narrow, they look into the middle distence, at the things that only Trevor and him can see.
The blood and the smells come from Trevor. He is normally very neat and tidy, but he has gum disease from years of neglect. When he kisses his teddy in the morning and when he wishes him good night and sweet dreams, Teddy's fur gets ever more dirty and dishevelled.
Teddy has been Trevor's hero and only friend for twenty years. several times he has escaped from the dustbinsafte rthe people that 'look after' trevor have tried to get rid of him. He has strange lumps and many stitches in different coloured threads all over his body where other adults have washed him and patched him back up.
Trevor's Teddy doesn't have a name. Trevor only calls him my teddy. Every night he looks a little more care worn, a little more frayed around the edges. The only respite he has had was when Trevor was given a heavy dose of diazepan. Then Teddy was not fighting the terrors that lurk in Trevors mind, but trying to remind Trevor of who he is.
Trevor is 62 years old, and the thing he loves most in life is his Teddy.

>Material of the toy?
Irrelevant. A Tin Toy or a Clay doll both can work in the system. it's not about what it's really made of, but about what the child BELIEVES. So a Tin knight has armor as thick as a modern battleship, and a clay doll is just as warm and comforting as any.

>>29001050
Current idea for Blanket.

Lvl 1: Hide! 3 successes: 1 target, absorbs 1d6 damage each turn for 1d6 turns.
Lvl 2: Sharing is caring! 6 successes: 1 target, you take half the damage the target takes for the next 2 turns. Example – A casts on B, B takes 6 dmg. A takes 3 dmg, B takes 3 dmg.
Lvl 3: No! 9 successes: 1 hostile target, can not perform actions for 1d4 turns.
Lvl 4: Everybody under here! 12 successes: All pcs within 5 squares take half damage for 1d4 turn.
Lvl 5: Fort! 15 successes: Designate a 6x6 area as 'safe' all toys, pcs and companions, are immune damage for 2d4 turns.

unsure on numbers, but I think it's a good mix of flat out protection and panic buttons.
>>
>>29001376
increase the cost; 15 successes is really easy to reach.
>>
>>29001389
True, but I was taking it as a panic button, maybe reducing the amount of turns to 1d3 so people can't just spam that. Also going off the standard set by the Boom! list.
>>
>>29001403
Yeah, boom list is gonna get changed
>>
>>29001422
Ah cool, switch to increments of 5 instead?
>>
>>29001463
3-6-13-20-28
>>
>>29001475
Cool, so

Lvl 3: No! 13 successes: 1 hostile target, can not perform actions for 1d4 turns.
Lvl 4: Everybody under here! 20 successes: All pcs within 5 squares take half damage for 1d4 turn.
Lvl 5: Fort! 28 successes: Designate a 6x6 area as 'safe' all toys, pcs and companions, are immune damage for 1d3 turns.

Bit more balanced, makes it so you can't just spam the higher ranks and keep it up. Assuming we're still using the spell point system from before.

>>
>>29001685
what kind of fear is a shark primal? fear of water?
>>
>>29001517
And Lie/Fib

Lvl 1: Suddenly glitter! 3 successes: All targets you can see in range reduce their rolled dice by 1 for all tests for 1d4 turns
Lvl 2: Nobody likes you! 6 successes: 1 target, must make an immediate attack against nearest ally.
Lvl 3: Close your eyes! 13 successes: Target is made invisible for 1d4 turns.
Lvl 4: The floor is glue! 20 successes: 3x3 square centred on a target. Cannot move for 1d4 turns.
Lvl 5: Didn't hurt! 28 successes: for 1d3 turns, all damage taken by toys, pcs and companions is also taken by the attacker.

A little bit weirder, but I imagine the 'darker' magic sphere to be a bit situational anyway.
>>
>>29001713
The ocean is fucking horrifying, yeah. I expect a Ocean Primal to be something more deep-sea though, like a Giant Squid. The Shark could be a high ranking minion though.
>>
>>29001718
Oh, the magic system... Magic casting DCs are good, but we need to implement the mana pools... figment pools? I liked the name figments. That's another part of the character sheet that Snoogles can add.
>>
>>29001751
yep.
>>
>>29001725
There was one man who was influenced by the Deep Sea Primal more than any other, so much so that he decided to write a series of books featuring it. His name was Howard Philip Lovecraft, one of the many victims of Cthulhu, the Deep One, primal fear of the ocean.

>>
>>29001881

>>
>>29001943

>>
>>29001912
Well, he's not actually as strong as he is in the books. That's what happens when a Primal gets to you - you become so afraid of that Primal that you exaggerate its powers out of proportion. I'm not saying he's not a tough motherfucker, but him waking up doesn't destroy the world.

>>
>>29001844
Yeah, I think I remember something to do with spells casting figment to cast, then requiring a success, so that magic can fail.

Idea I had was you had pure figment and specialised.

Pure figment is what you get each turn, based on your ability in Imagination.
1-3 = 1
4-5 = 2
Per turn regen.

Then there's specialise figment. So Lie figment, Boom figment etc.

That just plain matches your skill.
So, as an example.

Beary the Bear-Mage
Imagination 4

Lie 5
Blanket 4
Boom 3

Starts the night with 5 Lie figment, 4 Blanket figment and 3 Boom figment. Each turn he gets 2 pure figment.

It'd mean you have the constant spells being useful whilst not making every turn a 'nuke it all'.

Maybe a cap on how much pure figment you can get, double your Imagination maybe?

So it costs one figment per spell level.

Beary wants to cast Close your eyes! on himself, spending 2 pure figment and a Lie figment to do so. Then he rolls his test and hopes.

Or something, might get a bit numbersy but gives the magic users something more to play with.
>>
>>29002006
it's technically a vulva...
>>
Wasn't there a proposition to divide up monsters a bit more into primals, which rule their fear, phobias, which are each child's named and mental version of a fear not necessarily on the primal scale (giving a personal recurring villain who may be seeking to become a Primal by virtue of plots concerning sleepovers and infesting the dreams of more children until they are the face of their fear, so knifehead and giant squid could compete for aquaphobia), and mythics for solo encounter guest star monsters like horror movie creatures and the Boogeyman?
>>
Good morning boys!

Glad to see the playtest went well!! It seems today that many of us will be out and about.

Have fun with your families and enjoy yourselves for a bit. We all deserve it.

Freeform is unfortunately makes them way to good.
>>
>>29003530
Adding some bonuses based on the successes.

>>29003531
Well, we could put general rules, but stat height unlocking spells only encourages that you either put 5 points to a spell or none.
>>
>>29003561
This is a completely personal preference here.
I personally think that people should be rewarded for specialising in things. In general in tabletop I encourage people to specialise, it makes people feel awesome when they get to do that big thing.

Being a hybrid is cool, and it can be useful, someone popping out a Hide! every turn is useful, it's just not going to be as useful as the person that put more points into Blanket skills.

That's just my opinion on the matter, I'm not a fan of everyone being able to do everything and being the sword wielding battlemage with full clank.
>>
>>29003629
What you are talking about is min/maxing, not specializing. If it was that way, why not just put one rank per spell instead of a range of 1-5?
>>
>>29003748
I'm totally happy to do that thing personally.

I just want to test out the spell effects themselves first to see how they work with the rest of the game.
>>
Also, spells as the formulae of boom suggest are going to outshine melee or ranged combat, so we need to do somthing for that too. Maybe follow a similar formulae for other skills too (unlocking abilities per rank or something).
>>
>>29003834
The point there is that whilst the higher level spells will outstrip what melee does, if there's the resource management in
>>29002032
then it won't be a case of every turn the Imagimancer(?) repeatedly nuking everything. It'll be a case of steady support damage then additional stuff if they want to spend their specific figments.
