Previously: A young rocket deals with an unconscious man related to her investigation, calling her team, they begin their operation in full force!
Probing the man's mind for missing memories they find several holes alluding to the fact that he must have gone through repeated instances of this treatment.
Letting him rest, the rockets investigate a warehouse, speaking to a friendly guard, though his demeanor changes quite clearly when the young rocket presses more meaningful questions, nearly pushing the man to violence.
A sample of hair is found from within.

While outside a raging rocket is apprehended by the civic guard, a nonchalant fragrance rocket standing by casually.
A gun bearing old blood and burnt flesh is handed to the young rocket, further advancing their investigation.

okay so

Are we following the monster trail or the blood trail first?

One will lead us to the monster thread, the other will lead us to a possible body.
>>
>>29047620
I think we have two suspects one monster and one human.
>>
>>29047633
yeah, the blood might lead to the human suspect hiding the body. Though that would be a stroke of luck.
>>
Devon snarls in defiance at the uniformed civic guards that chatter via short range radios. These would go through their nearest Guard stations to be transmitted through cable to another tower. It was the best way to keep from using long-waves that could possibly breach the dome's Repel-Tech Security.
So long as monsters don't pay attention to the dome, everyone lives. Though it's because of the guard that they can keep on living in peace.

These guys do what rangers aren't exactly allowed to: uphold law within the dome.
Civvies don't much like being told what to do by rangers with fangs, horns, tusks, freaky eyes, and skin pigmentation.

Humans pass judgement on humans. Could be a secret motto of theirs.

"Yes, We've apprehended a ranger recruit, he's knocked out a guard to a warehouse#3 Mineral Resources." He speaks over the radio-chatter. His partner keeps a hand on his own gun while eyeballing Devon.

The snarling ranger knows better than to turn his flame on civilians less he face consequences only he know about.

You frown a bit at the whole situation. It'd just get worse from here. Miss Seraphis specifically instructed you to stay under the radar and now this happens?

Sanna doesn't really seem to care, or at least, she looks relaxed. It's the best way to go about not looking any more suspicious.
"Civvies already questioned me, and I'm tha one that 'apprehended' him." She uses air quotes.
Goldie pushes his hair back along his headband, holding his hand there, wincing,"How did they find out?"
Sanna rolls her eyes, smacking whatever she's chewing on extra loud."Pattie- Patrol found us, so I freaked out an' did that. We were think'n a' hid'n him but we din't get around ta it."
She glares focusing in on Goldie,"We done playin' twenty questions? By Arceus yer an annoyin' prick sometimes."
>>
At this, you intervene,"No you two, drop it. I'm in charge and I won't have the two of you fighting on my watch."
Sanna reclines again, relaxing stubbornly,"Ah huh, righ then ma'am. What are we doin' from here?"

The position of the sun through the glass of the dome tells you that it's past noon now.

>Your call Cerulean.

>[] Mindwipe the civvies, though it'll be odd since they've already given the report.
>[] Leave Devon, he'll be fine once they process him. Rockets are typically exempt from this kind of thing once Giovanni catches wind.

Then:

>[] Follow a scent trail( Monster's hair/Old Blood)
>[] Report to Seraphis.
>[] Report to Giovanni.
>>
>>29047620
Split up gang?

If they haven't destroyed the corpse yet, they might not now.

The monster is probably a mobile target.
>>
>>29047675

Better follow teh Blood's trail, since it can go cold. The monster will keep producing it's smell, even if he doesn't want to.
>>
>>29047675
Can Goldenrod do a Jedi mind trick and get them to release Devon into our custody.
>>
>>29047675
goddamnit I wanted to use devon to track the other trail
But now they sent out a report!

And he was going to be useful fighting the monster!

Anyone have an idea on how to get him out quick without raising alarms by the incongruous report?
>>
>>29047675
>>[] Mindwipe the civvies, though it'll be odd since they've already given the report.
We can deal with them later, after we've found the thief.

>[] Follow a scent trail( Monster's hair/Old Blood)
The blood trail.
>>
>>29047675
I'd say leave Devon. It would be too suspicious if we mind wiped them after they already gave a report, and it already looks pretty damn suspicious.
>>
>>29047675
How adept is Goldie at wiping out minds?

Could we get Goldie have himself apprehended? Then, when they take him in, he could wipe the minds of the people at the station?
>>
>>29047675
Try to talk the authorities into letting Devon go with a warning, "He" didn't actually cause any harm since it was just sleep powder, I assume from what Sanna said.
>>
>>29047675
[X] Mindwipe the civvies, though it'll be odd since they've already given the report.

Remember to ask Giovanni to sweep this under the rug for us. He can handle making one report go away and we want to get moving with our full squad.

Or, if possible, have Goldie Jedi Mind Trick the guards. Have them think that Devon doesn't need to be brought in, nothing will come of it anyways and they don't want to spend any more time around him than possible anyways. Just a stupid kid, not worth the effort, let him off with a warning and some harsh words.

After that, follow a scent trail. I'd start with the old blood.
>>
>>29047675
>>29047782
Basically, this way, we can keep all this off the records and Giovanni doesn't need to get involved (since if he does, someone would know the Rockets were involved).

If Goldie gets taken in, he can alter everyone's memories at the station he's taken into. Then he can catch up to us easily enough.
>>
>>29047810
That won't change the fact that the report was called in, that would probably be kept in actual logs, either paper or electronic. And mind wiping an entire fucking station would take a while.
>>
>>29047675
Honestly Devon needs to learn NOT to piss of the cops... so consider this a object lesson.

>[X] Leave Devon, he'll be fine once they process him. Rockets are typically exempt from this kind of thing once Giovanni catches wind.

>[X] Follow a scent trail( Old Blood)
>[X] Report to Giovanni.
>>
>>29047784
And possibly a citation to his Gym Leader (trying to mask Rocket involvement) that Sanna can explain as not actually being Devon's fault later (and would probably be handled under Rocket authority anyways, once it was passed to Ranger personnel).
>>
>>29047675
Same guy here
>>29047782
>>29047810
Also adding in that we should try and track down the blood trail.
>>
>>29047675
[ x ] Leave Devon, he'll be fine once they process him. Rockets are typically exempt from this kind of thing once Giovanni catches wind.
Keep contact through Grumpy to make sure he doesn't give away the operation.

>[] Follow a scent trail(Old Blood)
Don't wanna deal with the monster without devon.
>>
>>29047784
>These guys do what rangers aren't exactly allowed to: uphold law within the dome.
>Civvies don't much like being told what to do by rangers with fangs, horns, tusks, freaky eyes, and skin pigmentation.
>Humans pass judgement on humans. Could be a secret motto of theirs.
Considering this, I don't think that's possible.
>>
>>29047882
>Keep contact through Grumpy to make sure he doesn't give away the operation.
Have you already forgotten that Grumpy can't telepathically speak to Devon?

Let's just try to slip Devon something of ours so that he can track us down later. We could even have Goldie slip the fur we picked up to Devon, so that while we're tracking down the blood trail, he can follow the monster's trail once he's out.
>>
>>29047855
>and would probably be handled under Rocket authority anyways, once it was passed to Ranger personnel).
Ranger misdemeanors are handled by Rangers. Humans pass law to humans.

>>29047884
Rangers call Civilians and Civic Guard Civvies. Because they're not part of the actual military.
Like a police officer enforces the law but isn't in the armed forces.
>>
>>29047675
>[X] Mindwipe the civvies, though it'll be odd since they've already given the report.
>[X] Follow a scent trail( Monster's hair/Old Blood)

Causing a mysterious stir is actually a good thing. If they are doing their own investigation into our investigation, then they will have agents in the field. The closer they get, the better chances we have to catch them.

It's a risk, but I think it's one that is worth taking.
>>
>>29047884
That's what Goldie's psychic mind fuckery is for, he fucks with their heads, we chat to them and act responsible and friendly, and bam.

>>29047854
Devon took the fall for Sanna and you want to punish him? Seriously? What the fuck man.

"Goldie, you get Devon out of there." You look to the golden child and he seems to be a bit reserved at this one.
"They're the Civic guard, it's actually pretty illegal if I get caught doing it."
With a glance back to the guard, on of them takes a step toward Devon as he's still restrained by Sanna's vine.

Devon snaps at the guard, sending the man back with sheer primal aggression alone. You can almost feel his latent animosity from here. Yeah, it won't be any good if the guard takes him into custody, even if he goes to rangers.
You look back to Goldie, firm against his sudden apprehension,"Sanna, use sleep powder to knock them out, Goldie will fix them once they're subdued. We have a mission and I won't leave Devon behind, understand?"
They acknowledge your order.
This is Cerulean in charge.
This is Cerulean the squad leader. You have to make the calls that they can't make. You were taught that.

Now you're doing it.

Sanna makes shoot work of the civvies, wrapping a vine around each one's mouth and discharging sleep powder as they gasp in surprise.
"This is highly illegal." She giggles with a smile as she brings the two men over to a wall.
Devon's taken on an interested look with his squad-mates' sudden action,"Not leaving me for the slammer, huh?"

"Nope," You say with a beaming smile as you come forward, glancing to Sanna, she releases her vines from Devon, allowing him to drop from the light pole.
"Things chafe like the Reverse," He scratches around where he was bound before turning his attention onto you,"So leader, what are we doing next?"

Goldie gets to work at the corner of your eye, and you present Devon the gun.
"Sanna said that you smelled something from this, Goldie and I will be following the trail for it, you'll follow the lead Goldie and I found.
>>
Devon's eyes keen in on the vial as you present the silky brown hair that you procured from the warehouse.
"Goldie and I found this, a monster was here, but we don't know when or where. exactly."

Devon takes it from you, looking up at it in the light, just barely seeing the nearly transparent fiber.
"Wow, you must've been damn lucky to find this. I should be able to track it with-"
"It is likely that the monster is an Esper."
Devon pauses, wrinkling his nose as he pulls back his lips into a smiling grimace,"Oh? I've been wanting to get my teeth into one.. You picked the right hound for the job kitty, though if it 'ported, I'll have to pick up quite a few shitty trails."
"Report when or if you find something."

Devon looks over at Sanna,"I'll be doing this one alone. Don't want to get blamed for something I didn't do."
Sanna closes an eye with a wince."Hey hotdog, sorry. The punk old man made a move, didn't know what ta do."
Devon snarls again spitting a noxious flaming loogie at the ground,"How about you do a better job by not acting like a dumb bitch? You almost cost us our cover."
He steps on the loogie, putting it out.
Sanna's mouth hangs open for a moment before she flips Devon the bird," Yeah, ahright fuck y-"

"Enough!" You cross your arms and blast them both with a spray of water, cutting short the rude exchange.
Before either of them have enough of a thought to get into it further," We are working as a team, and I am the squad leader. You will work with who I say to work with."
>>
Devon angrily wipes the water out of his face, steam rising from his hot body,"Good enough for you to say, i already bent over backwards for your spoiled little toy." He points a dagger at Goldenrod, whom loses concentration on his task.
"What are you saying about me you lunatic? Your deranged brain finally getting the best of you?"

Sanna turns to Goldie this time,"Hey, screw you ! You don't know what the Reverse he deals with!"

"Enough!" You yell once more, beginning to fume yourself.
They go quiet this time.
"Someone's been murdered. There's an esper monster in the dome. We don't have time for this." You start to shake your head, feeling tears begin to well up a little bit. You were doing good.
"We don't have time to be arguing, you know?"

Devon holds his silence, a little water twinkling in his eye.
"Yeah, we need to get back to business." She concedes," What's next then?"

Goldie walks over to the group, averting his eyes from everyone.

Wait. Is this supposed to be Devon or Sanna speaking?

Anyway. Split up. We don't have time for any R&R, since our actions here could have possibly alerted the criminals.

Let Devon go on his own. It seems that, at the very least, he understands the need to keep a low profile.

You tell Devon to pursue the scent alone, if he finds something he can email your index with details and location. Goldenrod suggests that he should do it in some kind of code to keep it under wraps.
You know, just in case the comm lines are compromised.

Devon agrees to this.
"Sitrus Berries are bland." Will be for nothing but dead ends.
"Leppas are spicy." Will be for: found something and awaiting orders.

With that: The group divides, you take a long whiff from the old powder, and burnt flesh smell.

It doesn't really rain in the dome, though there are sprinkler systems for lawns and the like. It may be old, but it's still something.

You prowl around looking for scents, your squad-mates in tow. After getting a scent off of Dirt, you get a right proper trail leading you away from the warehouse and the unconscious civvies.

____________________________________________

It takes well into the afternoon, pushing into the evening as you hop from tram to tram at one point trying to pick the scent back up. From there you find that the trail resumes in Veridian of all places.

No word from Devon yet. But you keep it up, relying on the lingering and old ssmell of burnt flesh as you make your way through the trees and grasses of the beautiful quarter.

Your nose finally leads you to...

Veridian wood.

The trail goes cold there. You aren't quite sure where exactly the scene of the crime is, whether it occurred back in Saffron or in another quarter. Likely they covered that up. But the lingering smell of burnt flesh upon the air that only a predator's nose could detect has led you here.

"Yer jok'n right Ceru? The body's in there? No freak'n way it's in there! How'd they get it in!?"
Sanna throws her arms at this little scene here, causing the guards to raise their eyebrows in curiosity. A feathered up Pidgeotto/Sandsslash. Digging bird. The other bears horns of a bull with a hardened material over his knuckles and three lashing tails that hang lazily down by his legs.

You shake your head, nose isn't lying,"No, this is where it leads. They took the body into the veridian wood..." Could that be why Chuck was going there?

Goldenrod frowns, looking to you sheepishly," Cerulean, I hope you're not going to tell us that we need to go in there to investigate."

Well, you kind of do.

If a psychic was in Chuck's head....could they have implanted the suggestion to head into the Veridian wood so that he'd kill himself?

Let Devon continue on his solo mission. A 3-man team will be fine for a short expedition. Our index has an in-built compass/map, right?

I don't understand why you think including Devon in lunch is important enough to interrupt what he's doing.

While the psychic who's been wiping minds (the monster?) isn't as good as Goldie, someone is probably working to cover up the evidence of their misdeeds. We may have already alerted them with that ruckus in the warehouse.

It's not about including him for friendship, you know. It's about acting rationally. When the volcano at Pompeii blew up, you wouldn't just....say.....play a violin while lava and smoke is spewing everywhere.
>>
>>29050756

Heck, we should probably just put off lunch until we're all together, and ready to tackle a monster.
>>

>>
>>29050789
Yeah? I suggested the same thing earlier. Other people are suggesting that we interrupt this important mission just so that we can eat lunch together.

I don't understand why they think that's a good idea at all. They probably just want to up their friendship with Devon, but, while I'm up for improving relationships with our team mates, this is such an irrational decision.

You sigh with some degree of resignation at this point. The body's in the woods, disposed of. Unlikely that the killers would leave anything in tact.
With the crime scene obfuscated and likely covered up, like this there won't be any answers to be gotten from looking into this line.

It's getting on into the late afternoon, and you're pretty damn tired and hungry, your stomach growling with your chilling stomach acids left with nothing to get at.

"We're going to stop here. It's not worth going in, I don't think we'll find anything." You assess Sanna and Goldie, their faces bearing some sign of relief. Dealing with Veridian wood's concentrated monster population is definitely not on their list of things to do right now.
Though Devon may have jumped at it.

"So what now then?" Sanna asks, settling into her usual self.
"We report back to Boss, let's tell him what we've found out. Then we can get lunch, pick up something for Devon, and meet up with him."

Sanna smiles," Geeze, finally. Let's get some grub." She turns to leave, followed by Goldie.
"I could go for some Fried Hissers..."
"Hissers? You ever try a Hopdog? Bunch of grasshoppers blended into a nice little sausage for some tamato sauce!"
"Is it good?"
"It's somethin' ya usually only get in Celadon, but I've seen it in Rocket Cafe, we should all get one."

You follow after them, Goldie looks back to you,"Are you going to try one Ceru?"
"Well, if Sanna's so excited about it, I don't see why not."

______________________________________________
>>
The three of you report to Giovanni at the Rocket Dorms. He seems impressed by the leads that you've gotten so far, primarily in the fact that this whole mess wasn't a wild goose chase.

"My suspicions of an Esper proved true, but a monster? Indeed, this is of great concern." His forehead wrinkles in thought, pacing now in his office instead of seated calmly in his chair. You don't recall seeing him do this before.

"Are you aware of exactly how alarming this situation now is?"
You do not answer, this is not a question he expects you to answer.
He carries on,"This is a smudge on our status on rangers. Monsters in the dome, wild no doubt and killing people, going on undetected. And you think there may be a human accomplice?"

Goldenrod is the one to answer this," Yes sir, if not working with the monster, no doubt are they being controlled like the others."

Giovanni nods his head a few times, centers in front of his desk and sinks himself into his chair with his eyes closed. It is only after folding his hands before himself that he opens them once again, his stunning posture as leader makes your heart beat a bit faster.
"Do what needs to be done, though do not report this to Seraphis. We do not know who has been compromised by the unidentified creature. If Devon is on the case, he will be immune to the creature's influence. I would advise you to rely on him a bit more heavily, allow him to keep record of your findings."
His eyes narrow with a sudden surge of disgust,"This most certainly will need to be kept from the public lest our reputation suffer a ruinous blow. One rogue Esper getting to the wrong people could mean the fall of our entire social order."
>>
His eyes focus upon Goldenrod, his face becoming a stone sheet," Such is the reason that Sabrina regulates her students so heavily, she understands the dangers of the powers we, and the monsters wield."

Giovanni closes his eyes in contemplation, Goldie appears to get a little nervous before Boss. squirming a bit in his seat like a child in the principal's office.

He slams his hands down upon his desk, only Goldie flinching between the three of you. "Return to your duties, I want this monster found by tomorrow, understand?"

Have we gathered any sort of motive for whatever this Esper monster is doing? It is obvious that we're not dealing with some beast, but a creature that is at least as intelligent, if not more so, than a human. There's missing Repel materials? Just what exactly does that entail?

Is there a faction within the Dome that is trying to destroy it, perhaps by reverse engineering the Repel tech so that Pokemon can ignore and pass through the field as if it were nothing?

Or is there a coalition of extremely intelligent Esper monsters that are actively, yet secretly, plotting the end of Human civilization??

What an unstoppable massacre it would be if all the monsters outside the dome were called to it, and they were able to ravage the interior freely...

Your eyes flutter behind your eyelids with the fantasies of REM sleep.

Your stress turns itself into nightmares with visions of the dome cracking from some invisible force, panes of glass falling down on the citizenry, killing people in anguished screams, you rush out to help, you cry out for other rangers to aid you against a sudden invasion of rattatta, pikachu, beedrill. All the Arc-damned beedrills.

They bear down upon you and you bring your pals up to fire, but you're out of water, no good. You hunker down to pounce at them with claws extended, only your legs won't extend and you're stuck to the ground, paralyzed by some invisible force.

You barely register a Beedrill's insectoid carapace gleaming in the light. Looking down, the stinger's in your body and it begins to dissolve from the poison, spreading down into the land, into the beedrill, and into the rest of the world.

Everything poisoned and falling apart.

You wake up feeling tired, a look out of the window, you register that it's night time and almost just want to go right back to bed. It's just not worth going out. How are you going to do this mission in a day?

Wasn't Sanna supposed to wake you up?

You force yourself out of bed, your head pounding. It's weird that you slept so long and came out of it with so much fatigue. Could it just be from that bad dream that you... You...

Don't remember?

You engage your index, getting ready to put the thing to short-wave. As you do so, you see an email from Devon in your log.
Opening it.

>"Leppa Berries Are Spicy. Get some at the Rocket Cafe."
The time reads couple hours ago. about two hours after you went to sleep. Likely went to Sanna and Goldenrod too.
After that:
>"Civ.G. at dorms."
>"Sanna and Goldie got taken, going to find them. Where are you?"

You put the shortwave on, calling for the any of them. Between the pulses of your headaches and broadcasts you go into your evil state to try to shake off the headache. This really, really hurts.

"C here. Team, do you copy? C here. Team, do you copy?"
"D here, you want it?"
"D, what are you doing? What's going on? Wait, what?"
"C, Civ.G showed at dorms. G got held up. I hid from 'em. They looked kinda crazy and had guns. They took Sanna and Goldie out of the dorm. What the Reverse are you doing?"
"Just woke up, I went to take a nap. Sanna was supposed to wake me up."

"Well nice goin' fat cat. Down to me and you, civvie guard's screwed up, and the trams aren't running anymore tonight. G's gonna be pissed about this crap."

Your blood runs a lot colder than usual. Right, this is going to look really bad. How can you explain this? Oh crap.. Is this about earlier or?..
"You got something to say Cerulean? G told me we need to get this resolved, what are we going to do?"

Okay, track the scents of the civ guard that took Sanna and Goldie. Track them until you find a point in the trail that intersects with the monster and then switch to trailing that.

We should sniff around for the monster though, if we think it has something to do with our sleeping problems.
>>
>>29053368
Fine, switch the roles.

He can track the monster, Ceru can stage a rescue. I suggested Devon because he doesn't have the same limits of his evil states as we do and so is less prone to psychic attack.

But, if we wish to avoid excessive casualties, we'll need to utilise our evil state in order to bust Goldie and Sanna out, because *something* is clearly wrong if Goldie has not returned yet.

Of course, using it for what I imagine is going to be a significant period of time is going to push sanity checks. It's a risk we have to take, and probably still better than letting Devon do it.

Devon is also a better tracker, I believe, so it actually works out fine.

tl;dr, Have Devon track the civ guard trail and locate the trail of the monster, while Ceru attempts a rescue operation.
>>
>>29053419
Then why hasn't he?

Sanna and Goldie are likely compromised. I reckon freezing water could snap them out of it, but getting to them is still going to be an issue. Devon should not be the one going on a low-casualty rescue mission. Devon should be tracking the mastermind.

I'm not saying the guard wouldn't have been on us for that. But I am saying that the lunch and nap were what allowed Senna and Goldie to be captured. We're already on the run from the guard right now, but if we had chosen not to eat and sleep (and neither of which we really got to do, since the latter didn't even help us recover; we didn't even get to roll for this stuff), they'd still be with us.

>>29053733
Ah, see, this could have worked out.

Assuming the report caused an incident that drew the attention of our out of control esper, it would have immediately traced Sanna and Goldie back to the rocket dorms and made efforts to capture them.

Which is exactly what they did, I reckon. If we didn't go to sleep, we probably would have been able to intercept them and get the monster scent earlier. Unfortunately, we were asleep, so there's no point crying over spilt milk.

So basically, deal with the psychic monsters and it all falls apart. if there is proof that their minds were tampered with by the psychic monster, even if such information is redacted to the public, we can play it all off as Goldie trying to fix the damage that was done.

>[X] Hunt into the night with Devon.

Hopefully you won't make a habit of introducing us into an event right when we're at our most tired. I mean, nothing wrong with doing that. Unless it happens all the time. You take a moment to gather yourself, your tired mind flitting about all of your options right now, and you find them in wanting. Devon is right. It's time to hunt the thing down.

"Monster hunt. We should pick up Repel Tech to hunt it. We're taking this thing down."
Devon laughs into the radio," Right then! Atta girl fattie! Pick one up for me from Rocket Requisitions. It'll be logged by silph, but not until it's too late for this beastie."

Devon cuts out, leaving you alone again in your room.

Your headache wanesm, but you still don't remember your dream, it's a really odd feeling.

The mission though? What do you remember?

Monster, gun, metals, infiltration... It's all there. You're good, or at least you should be.

You strap into your combat CGS, affixing your voltorb in place, your macho brace still on, even if it's starting to chafe against your fur, no need to bother taking it off.

You check with Alexis, asking her to check you for memory holes. Her expressionless mask looks you over, she touches a hand to your head, and she furrows a naked brow," What am I looking for exactly?"
"Anything missing? Anything at all?"

She sighs, removing her hand from your brow," Doesn't work that way Cerulean." She crosses her arms, her lack of overall expression rather disheartening.

"Ah, sorry, sorry for wasting your time. Bye!" You run off, got to meet Devon.
Got to get Repel tech and meet Devon.

The Requisitions Office gives you a little trouble at first, though the steward clears you once they realize who you are.
"You're a good girl right? What's the worst that can happen?"

In your mind, you chide the steward for being unprofessional on the job, though you've got little room to talk. You thank them and run off, affixing the device to your CGS.

You meet Devon along the stroke of midnight. Through shortwave he reveals his location, he too has switched to Rocket Blacks and affixes his own Repel-tech.
"Can't believe they let you get one at this time of night."
"Really that surprising? "
"Well, for me. They'd turn me away if I just went and asked like this. Though I guess it's from the short leash that those controlling bastards are keeping me on."

You nod, in acknowledgement, though don't pick up any more on this conversation. "Got a lead?"

Devon nods," Yeah. Been sniffing around. Look, the Civvies didn't stink of monster until they got with Sanna and your boytoy-"
"Devon." You chide him, too tired for this nonsense."
He raises his hands in a feigned apology," Alright, alright. Chew toy sound better? Whatever, look. THe monster's been all over the dome, even taking the damn tram. That's what I've gotten from hunting around all day since we split."
You nod slowly, this isn't anything that necessarily surprising given the breach," Yes, yes, and?"
"I was getting to that."

"You told me that the workers all got wiped, so I followed around places that I could pick up their stink and went from there."
"Yes, and?"
"I'm getting to that fuck'n part, just give me a damn second." Devon snarls, his teeth like a dog's dripping with fiery toxins.
You bid him to continue, and just like that, he does.

"Found out that the thing's been around but it's trail always ends up with it leaving the dome- on foot. Does it often enough too."
"Then it's not interested in staying here? It's..."
"Bingo- It's taking the metal somewhere, Likely it's building something. Question is what. Question is where. But the answer is that we can get there."

He told you to get Repel-tech. "Devon, you don't mean-"
"We get this thing, we get the credit for it. We get rid of the threat to the dome ourselves, finish the mission, and make boss proud."

Since she hasn't exactly been much help on the mission so far, and she could have gotten a lighter sentence.
>>
>>29054845
That's useless, though. Because it was already stated that Giovanni couldn't do anything about it for now.
>>
Why are people trying to take the fall for the mindwipe? If we make it back it is going to be with the head of a psychic monster we can scapegoat. Aren't you a fucking ROCKET?
>>
>>29054863
because giovanni wants to keep the psychic monster secret.

We'll bring the head back, and then discuss with giovanni what to do from there.

A probable cover story is the thing was manipulating humans from outside the dome with its powers.

Except people aren't supposed to know about the psychic monster because that's the kind of thing that could cause a huge panic and cast doubts on the efficiency of the Rangers as an organization.

It is all kinds of messed up that the Kadabra was able to pull this shit off.
>>
>>29054860
All Sanna's really done so far is fuck up stuff, far as I can tell. Her temper is really bothersome. I don't suggest ever bringing her and Devon on a trip together again.

>>29054861
For now, yeah. But he's the boss, and a pretty smart guy to boot. Its important he knows it was our fault, at least, but that we're fixing the problem.

Least, that was my thought process.
>>
>>29054863
We cant show people the monster because of the mass hysteria because of a free wandering monster inside the dome.
>>
>>29054863
The rockets look TERRIBLE if news gets out that a psychic pokemon is wandering the dome freely.

In otherwords, if anything, we will be the scapegoat for the Esper.
>>
>>29054863
That would reveal that a psychic monster had infiltrated the city. Which we don't want, it'd panic people.

This mission stays quiet.

We come up with some excuse or cover story, take the sentence, and our Boss makes it all go away.
>>
>>29054797
>>29054790

What if "somebody" was "smuggling" monsters into the dome and we were investigating. Goldie was just checking for contamination but it setoff some kind of psychic mindwipe trap. We didn't want to incite a panic.

unfortunately, we had to kill the esper monster, so our lead to the "smugglers" has gone cold

We could say that there was an Espeon involved, and remind people the importance of buying Everstone collars for their Eevees.

Or putting them down if Everstones aren't grimdark enough for the QM.
>>
>>29054912
Basically this. We'll take the fall for ordering the mindwipe when we get back. No matter how bad it is, we can't let Goldie and Sanna take the blame for what we ordered. All that shit about how 'We're the leader, so do as we say' goes both ways. Take responsibility anons.

You turn on your index, bringing it into Email mode for a message to boss, you begin to clack away at the index, typing up an email with your findings in the... unfortunate case that you don't make it back.
"Sending mail to boss. He needs to know what we're doing at least."
Devon frowns at first, yet then he smiles, baring his viscous maw,"Holy shit, you're actually agreeing?"

"If it's just walking around, we need to get it as soon as possible. It's killed people, and it's controlling minds. We can't let it live another day." You yawn, your maw stretching a bit wider than usual.
"We don't know what it'll do when it finds out about our investigation."

Devon actually salutes you," Ready to begin the mission, Ma'am!"
You rub some of the tired out of your eyes,"Don't do that right now Devon, I've been a bad leader. We need to fix things." You sneer through your own teeth, your cat-like eyes gleaming in the night.

"It's time time to go on a monster hunt."
______________________________________

Getting through the gate had been a little difficult, actually requiring you and Devon to work on the guards a bit right up until it came down to outright demanding the two of you be let out for a top secret mission that you could offer no name.

Either Devon's threat of hellfire or your tired and wasted snarl did the trick. They opened the gate for you under the light of a waning moon.
>>
After a brief decontamination procedure, the two of are are let outside.

The air out here is... well it's different. Fresher, crisper. Unfiltered, and not recycled like the dome.

The land right outside of the dome is nothing but a plain ripe with ash and dust though. Rangers burn back the wood every now and then so they can see if something big comes a bit too close.

There are still bugs though, little ones, not monsters. Fireflies addorning this mid-summer night. It's a lot more beautiful for some reason. Beyond here, the world is unlimited. There's no end in sight. No walls to hold you back from the world, or the world back from you.

You turn on your repel tech to the medium setting, power would last 6 hours there. Monsters should ignore you for the most part.
Devon does the same and he flickers out of your focus. You need to concentrate to see him.

"Right then," He stretches with some exaggeration, loosening up his joints.
"Let's get down to it."

He sniffs at the air, looking down and around the ashen fields.
"That much metal.. If not a vehicle, it would've needed a team.
There are vehicle tracks running from the dome. Only thing is that rangers will use vehicles sometimes as well for the longer journeys. They're voltorb powered so...

"It's going to be one of the tracks out and onward." You say, pointing out to where the tracks lead before splitting off.

Looking back to the dome, you have to concentrate kind of hard to look directly at it. Unless you stare really hard, it's just not there. You kind of want to walk away from it even.
Repel-tech. Crazy...

"I've got it, let's go, we can't waste any time, get those legs moving Cerulean!"
Devon starts to run off ahead like a hellhound possessed.
You waste no time putting your natural speed to use, catching up with him and following despite his fatigue.

Ranger training was still worse, this hardly makes you break a sweat.

Despite your running to keep up with Devon, your psychological fatigue holds you back. You begin to nod off, your mind shutting down, your body reacting to everything around you.

Devon doesn't seem to notice, but you fall fast asleep due to your sleep deprivation and roller coaster of stress, spiritual possessions, and whatever your last nap consisted of.

The stride across the grassy terrain becomes surreal as you get lost in the chasing of Devon like pray. Your fur glistening in the gentle light of the moon. Your presence unnoticed as the two of you slip past unsuspecting monsters that myst be turning in for the night.

>Rest upgraded to rank (3)! Sleepwalk learned!: You can rest while staying on your feet, reacting to consistent stimuli, and thus regaining stamina while on the "march"
Stamina regen is double rest rank for as many posts as it is used, though will leave Cerulean defenseless until she makes a roll to recover from the effect.

In the sea of darkness, your mind rests while your body moves...

You are getting closer to the target as the two of you speed through the ashen plains on foot.

Just so you know, Prof, we're on page 9 already. You might want to consider wrapping up soon.

'Course, I'm afraid of what our luck will be like once the next session begins....
>>
Your world is a sea of murky darkness amongst images flickering in and out of existence in your REM sleep. You feel the form that you're chasing stop suddenly and you skirt around him, digging your feet into the terrain. It's changed from Ashen and dusty to kind of moist and loamy. You're in a different part now.

You open your eyes slowly, yawning and stretching, feeling much better for the nap even if you aren't quite sure how you slept through that with monsters about.

You check your index: Reads that you've got 4 hours left of charge.

Lucky the two of you didn't run into any monsters.

Devon sniffs about the trees of the forest you now find yourself in furiously, his eyes glowing with a hellish light, your own reflecting ambient light like frozen mirrors.
"I swear it's out around her somewhere."
"The monster?" You look around seeing a few kakuna hanging upon trees here and there. Sleeping, wholly ignoring you.
There are little shrubs walking around as well spreading seeds and smelling just a bit foul...

You know that they're dangerous but... it's nice to actually be out here. Magical almost.

"I swear that it's here! It's so close." He growls, a fire roiling in the back of his throat.

Might not be a bad idea to just let him burn this place down. It'd flush out the culprit...

You look around the area, passing your eyes over the trees. A closer inspection of the Kakuna reveal that they're at least twice the size of the ones back in the dome, you can only guess at the sheer size of the beedrills out here.
That is alarming.

The two of you walk around in the forest, Devon keeping his nose in the air for any new scent trails.

After some time, the two of you see other monsters roaming around in the night, even more sleeping up and away from would-be predators in this expansive grove.
"It's kind of nice out here, you admit. Despite the monsters, it's alright if they don't see you."

Devon growls at you, baring his fiery teeth,"We need to find the target. Focus, Cerulean."

You put your game face one, as the two of you walk around the little shrubs that spread seeds.

It's some time, but you eventually notice that following Devon's nose, sights are repeating. The same trees, the same shrubs, the same giant Kakuna. The two of you have been walking something of a perimeter.

You squint your eyes now. It's like the repel technology, a barrier that forces away awareness.
Just need to stare at it, focusing on it and... and... It starts to come into focus now.

Cabins made purely out of wood stand in shades where you once thought you saw trees. It comes into shape. Log cabins, woven hammocks, a longhouse, tanning racks, a fire pit with a spit.

You see a village.

Eevee learns a Fairy-type move at level 9.

And it just requires two affection hearts in Pokemon-Amie, which is a different stat than Friendship.

So that means that... it needs to get a decent amount of exercise and training, while still being pretty pampered?

I can imagine how that'd be rare, but I don't think it would be completely unprecedented.

Does this mean that some people keep an evolved eevee around, even if it's discouraged?
>>
>>29056407
They're not exactly trained to fight though. so techniques aren't really something they'd come by.

Espeopn/Umbreon evolutions can come about via standard love and affection even after pampering. It'd basically be a three way shot with Sylveon being least likely.
>>
>>29056427
Prof already answered how friendship evolutions work. Amongst pokemon, its their bond with their pack. Amongst rangers, it's camaraderie.

So between a pet and an owner, it's probably just companionship.

Espeons are psychic, reading their owners mind is the first thing they'd do since they have no reference level of knowing that's frowned upon.

Umbreon are Evil and thus intrinsically paranoid and suspicious.

That's why you gotta move fast.

Even having a gun pointed at them might not be enough, depending on how fast an Espeon can think.

Also, is Mt. Moon really THAT far?

Does its behavior change when close to evolution? Does it put on weight/have a growth spurt?

Or do they just know it's gonna become SOMETHING and there are no takebacks.

>>
>>29056728
Our infiltration doesn't even matter, though? The repel shields do not create a barrier we cannot pass through. They simply make it harder for us to see through the area (and for normal monsters, impossible I'd say).

Considering the small perimeter of their village, I think monsters pass through it often enough. The only reason no monster enters the domes is because of the walls that surround it.

Why? Why did you set that restriction and what reason do you have for doing so?

Do you understand how programming works? You input simple commands that enact complex operations. Such as it is with the human brain. A simple command like "hide tracks" would be enough to trigger the mind in question to do all it can to "hide the tracks".

because "hide tracks" is a very risky command and is subject perception errors, especially if the one who is recieving the "hide tracks" doesn't know what it is hiding, or from whom it is hiding. the person may consider something very important to be inconsequential. it is a very very risky idea that would not have held across many different people and points of perspective.
