Your name is Bartolomè de la Fuente. You are barely of age, but you fear tonight is the night you become a man. You have lived in Madrid all your life, and were recently ordained as a priest in the service of the Lord. But you are very far from home right now.

It is December 19th, on the cusp of midnight, and you sit outside an office beneath an unassuming house of God not in your home country of Spain, but in Naples. You were flown in just this morning, on what you were told was a matter of "grave importance" concerning your family. No one has come to speak to you yet, but you are already certain what this is about: your father, Hidalgo de la Fuente, is dead. And you have certainly been called, as is your duty by blood, to take his place and avenge his death as an Executor.

But no one has come to speak with you yet. For now, you are alone. And though your piety gives you strength, tonight you feel very weak.

What do you do?

>1. Pace, and wonder what has become of your father.
>2. Calm yourself through prayer.
>3. Examine the room you are in.
>4. Do something else.

Start with this, information is useful to have, and we can pray in a bit.

You observe your surroundings. This room is quite nice, and is probably meant to entertain the resident priest's company. You are underground right now, having been directed down here from the front entrance shortly after your plane landed. You didn't catch the name of your contact on the phone, but they gave you very explicit directions. They probably work here. The walls are painted some kind of crimson shade, and the soft carpet is the same shade. You are sitting in one of several armchairs gathered around a glass-topped coffee table. Bookshelves line the walls. You can spot many religious texts and several different translations of the Bible. The only artwork present is a highly realistic portrait of who you assume is some saint. There is a door opposite you that leads to the priest's office. At least, you think it's his office. You were told to knock on that door, and you did so, but no one has answered yet and you can't hear anything going on inside of there.

There isn't anything else noteworthy about this room. The only clock ticking is your own watch, which states you've been sitting here for thirty minutes.

You get out of the chair, kneeling on the floor and using the seat to prop up your folded hands. You offer a quick prayer to God, and ask Him for strength. "Heavenly Father, take pity on your servant and grant him the strength to overcome the trails You have set in his path."

Your Faith is now Stable.

You hear a noise coming from behind the door. Someone is stirring back there. Hopefully they will be out shortly, though, maybe they didn't hear you before?

>1. Do something else and wait for them to come out. You mustn't rush them.
>2. Go and knock. Just to be sure.

[x] Maybe they were asleep? No need to rush them.
>>
>>29083689
You stand up. This is no time for patience. You have traveled across Europe to find what has become of your father, and you will not be delayed a moment longer until you find out! You approach the door and give three heavy knocks. On the other side, whoever is moving around seems to be doing so more frantically now; they definitely heard you this time.

The knob turns, opening the door to reveal the priest, and...

And...

This is no priest.

A young woman stand before you, though you have no guess at her exact age. (It is not becoming for a man of the cloth to pay attention to such trivial matters of the flesh.) Her skin is the olive tone of a local, and her face is drawn, bereft of any feminine touch. Her black hair is cropped short, and she is dressed in a black turtleneck and jeans. She is no servant of the Lord! She's a beatnik!

This woman blinks at you, confused for a moment, before her mouth stretches and lets out a long yawn. "Er, sorry," she says in a quiet voice. "I lost track of time and I took a nap." She looks up and down, giving you a once-over, snapping her fingers when she's done. "Bartolomè, right? Sorry if I kept you waiting. You weren't out here too long, I hope?"

>1. [LIE] I only just got here.
>2. I've been waiting for some time, actually...
>3. Ask her something
>>
>>29083828
>2. I've been waiting for some time, actually...

"I had some time to catch up on my reading. Don't worry about it.

May I come in? I believe we have no small amount of business to attend to."
>>
>>29083869
The woman blinks again, still in the process of waking from her nap. After a second she sobers up, and the confusion vanishes. "Right. Come in, Bartolomè."

She waves you into a cramped and very distressing office. The state of disrepair it's in could bring a tear to your eye. Books and documents are scattered around the floor, left open and their pages creasing from where they've bent. The shelves are chaotic, with no sense of order to where anything has been placed. Her desk is in the eye of this messy storm, and is likely only clear because she needed a place to rest her head.

There is a chair in front of her desk, and you take it for yourself. A helpful nameplate situated on the desk gives you this woman's name. "Catarina Belmont," you mutter to yourself.

The woman, Catarina, sits down in her own chair and leans back, playing with her fingers as she stares at you blankly. "We should get straight to business," she states. "Are you aware of what has transpired, Bartolomè? How much did your contact share with you before sending you to me?"

>1. I haven't been told anything.

You explain to Catarina that you haven't been told anything about the situation. She gives a wry smile and says, "Good." She arches her fingers and begins to speak in a very blunt voice.

"Hidalgo de la Fuente missed his scheduled check-in with his superiors on December 13th. Following protocol, he was declared missing and a search was conducted. All missing operatives that are not recovered within five days are presumed to be dead." She levels an unsettling glare at you, letting you draw your own conclusion as to what has become of Hidalgo.

"My name is Catarina Belmont. I am an Executor in service to the Church. Your father was also an Executor. And you've been summoned to take his place in our ranks, directly under me."

She says nothing more. Her face is steeled, and she seems to be expecting the inevitable backlash.

>1. My father IS an Executor. You haven't found a body yet.
>2. Agree to take your father's place.

"Don't talk about my father like he's already dead. You don't know that yet."

Catarina hears you, but she doesn't respond. You sit for a moment, calming down, before asking what you would be doing as an Executor, should you accept your role.

"It's pretty simple. We are tools dedicated to defending the name of our Lord. Anyone who would besmirch that name is our enemy. We eliminate those people. You would be apprenticed under me, and I would teach you how to do these things."

"Nonsense," Catarina tells you. "Anyone can learn any skill. The only way you could fail to learn is if you refused to do so." Her eyes flutter, and close.

A few moments pass. She's fallen asleep. You clear your throat, and she jolts back up. She doesn't skip a beat, and asks, "Satisfied, then? Will you accept your place as an Executor?"

"Not yet," you say. Catarina's answers haven't satisfied you just yet. "Does our God ask us to kill those that besmirch his name? Does He believe killing them is the only way to lead them to the light? Is there no other way?"

The way that Ms. Belmont looks at you is disconcerting. It is an expression she hasn't made in front of you yet, and now that she has you're not sure what it means. "Don't misunderstand what we are, Bartolomè. Our role is not that of shepherds, nor missionaries. We don't exist to convert or protect. We only exist to kill the enemies of God. We're assassins, plain and simple. What we do is heretical, but it is also necessary."

You sit there for a moment, stewing on that. You ask one more question.

>>29084917

"I am still barely of age. Can someone like me really do this?"

"Ha!" Your contact throws her head back and laughs. You feel a chill. It's not something that suits her. Her lips curl into a catlike smile and she explains, "Our greatest prodigy joined the Executors when he was ten. The only requirement to join is the will to do everything necessary in defense of the Faith... do you have that will?"

>>29084912
>>29084899
>>29084890

It seems to you that there isn't any other choice. "I accept. When do we start?"

Wood grinds against wood as Catarina opens a drawer. "Immediately." From her desk, she hands you two items: an outdated cell phone, and a briefcase.

"This is the equipment for your first assignment," she tells you. "There are many pleasantries and ceremonies to be conducted for your official acceptance, but those can wait. Your training falls to me now, Bartolomè, and I want to see what I'm working with."
>>
>>29085193
She points to the phone. "That phone is broken. It can only interact with one other phone: mine, so don't try calling anyone else with it. Whenever that phone rings, you drop whatever you're doing and answer it. No exceptions. And when you've completed a task, you call the number in its contact list immediately. Again, no exceptions."

She points to the briefcase next. "That's the equipment you've been assigned for your first task. Don't open it in public under any circumstances. As for the task..."

She then jabs her arm, and a card flies out from her sleeve. She catches it between two fingers and hands it to you. On it, you find an address located here in Naples. "Go to this address. It's out by the docks. I want you to break into this place and search it inside and out. Then I want you to call me and tell me everything you find. Do you understand?"

There is no reason to ask her, she is clearly full of conviction...

But when she says "Protect the Faith", what faith does she really mean? Did our beloved father truly belong to this... Organization?

Perhaps, if he did, it is best that we honor him (if he is truly dead) by following in his path. But we should not place our faith in this organization yet. It might yet be one of many temporal orders that use in vain the name of our savior to pursue sinful agendas.

"Just a few things you may find useful. Don't worry, the box will open when you need it to."

Naples is a large city, and getting to the docks will take a little time. You hail a taxi and make a beeline for the address, but it shall take some time to get there. You watch the lights of the city at night pass by as you while away the minutes.

You feel there is nothing to do but pray in these trying times. You fold your hands and bow (although your neck is already craned down in this cramped taxi) as best you can, offering your praise unto God. "Almighty Father, I shall always be your faithful servant. Please... I ask for guidance. I have learned so much tonight that I never wished to know. I can only ask that you guide my actions, and keep me on the righteous path."

You continue praying in this manner as the taxi driver buzzes from street to street, caught up in the thrumming traffic of the Italian metropolis. Perhaps it is only nostalgia, but Madrid always seemed so much calmer, and more pleasant to you in the days of your youth.

There was always time for leisure in your childhood. Your mother was lenient, and let you taste responsibility early. Being the oldest, you would always shepherd your little sisters about town, playing by the river in the afternoon, walking the streets and watching all the different people go by. You would always make up little stories for each person, pretending that they were a great adventurer, or some kind of secret agent.
>>
>>29086071
Your father's presence in your life was... on and off. You remember that he was always around for the holidays, cooking your Christmas feasts for you and taking you out to festivals at night. But besides that, you're not sure he was ever home much. Officially, he was the priest of your church, but day-to-day duties always fell to his seconds. He always seemed to be out of town or overseas. "On business," he'd explain. Is this what he was doing, all those years? Out... killing random people, for some supposed good of the faith? You can't stomach the thought, and put it away for now. You decide not to think of home any more tonight, or you'll miss it even more dearly.

The gruff voice of the taxi driver tells you that you've arrived at your destination. You hand him some money and step out of the car, your briefcase slapping against your leg as you stare up. The address you were given does not belong to any modest building. A gigantic warehouse is in front of you, its looming shadow blocking the lights of the city beyond it. You gulp.

In front of you is a small door, a side entrance. If you're going through with this, you'll need a plan.

>1. Use the door and try to get inside.

You can feel yourself shivering. You've never even thought of stealing from the cookie jar before. Breaking and entering is opposed to your very nature.

You resolve to do it anyway. You don't have a choice in the matter anymore. You may as well try to do this intelligently. Being slow, and most importantly, discrete in your movements, you go a full circuit around the warehouse, taking note of everything worth noting about it. It's a roughly square building, with equal sides as best you can tell. There are three doors: one on the west side, where you began, and another on both the north and east sides. There are windows up on the second floor, but the only way to reach them is a fire escape on the south side. You're willing to bet all of these doors are locked, though if you're lucky there won't be any alarms.

Where do you go from here?

You make your way to the south side, where the fire escape is. Whether it's negligence or luck working in your favor, someone's left the ladder down for you to climb. It's a slow journey up the metal walkways, as you try not to make too much noise, until you've reached the second story of the warehouse. Several windows are lined up here, and you try to get a good look through them to see what awaits you inside.

The quarters appear tight. Most of the warehouse is packed with shipping crates, likely brought in by the city's extensive naval traffic. There is limited space to walk among the cargo, and it looks very dark, with only a dozen or so overhanging lamps providing light--and a few of those are burnt out. There is a walkway overlooking it all, but of course you can't reach it from here, only a ladder on the north side.

Though on the bright side, there is a stack of crates directly below the window. If you opened one up you could hop right down onto them.

The window you select creaks as you wrench it open, working it until it provides just enough room to squeeze through. With your briefcase in tow, you wriggle through the opening and land on the shipping crates.

The walls of the warehouse seem to reverberate as the metal noise bounces off of them. That was... louder than you thought it'd be. You didn't see any guards, though, so you hope you'll be all right.

Catarina told you to survey this place and tell her everything you find. You need to figure out how best to do that.

>1. In the nitty-gritty. Get down to the ground floor and take stock from there.

You need to get up to higher ground. Maneuvering as best as you can across the shipping crates, you cross from the south to the north side of the warehouse. Your footsteps on the metal crates rasp eerily in the still air, the only sound to be heard in...

Your ears are pricked by a scuffling noise, and your heart leaps. You think you heard something.

>1. Ignore it, and get to higher ground. More quickly, now.

I'd suggest best of three OP, it seems to be the most favored way to go in quests.

You hold still, and hold your breath. You eliminate all the sounds you can but the beating of your heart, and strain your ears to pick up anything.

And to your horror, you do. The hairs on your neck stand as you hear the unmistakable shuffling of feet on the concrete floors. You don't know who or what it is, but something is in here with you.

We must be calm, let us make a silent prayer, and try to get a look at what is in here with us...

Anyways, we'd make a ton of noise if we try to get higher up. This way perhaps we can keep ourselves from getting noticed.

You offer up a silent prayer to God, and ask that he gives you strength in your actions. You don't know if He has given His blessing or not, but you feel more secure in your actions having asked for it.

Either this thing is harmless, or it's coming after you no matter what you do at this point. Trying to get up to the metal walkways would only alert it to your location. You choose to get down on its level instead, and find it. Before it finds you.

You slip down to the ground floor, your feet moving less noisily on the concrete than the cargo crates. Slowly you creep forward, carefully peering down every corner, glancing over your shoulder every few moments. Your entire body is on guard, your instincts going haywire. "Get out," they keep telling you. "You're going to die down here." You ignore them, and maintain conviction in the choice you've made.

You've been circling around the warehouse for a few minutes, approaching the northeastern corner when you begin to smell it. A foul odor that hangs on the air like death. You're not sure what it is, yet, but it makes you think of rot. And it's coming from this way.

>1. Seek out the stench. (d100)
>2. Keep your distance and continue your search.

We are still unsure though, if this organization is truly blessed by god, or merely a mockery of his name. Though hopefully it is blessed, for we would not like to imagine our father doing the devil's work.

It a fucking mockery of his name.

They kill vampires not because they evil or that they are monsters but because they aren't in the bible.

When they find a demon, they rejoice. Such Hypocrites.

This smell, whatever it is, is so horrendous that it cannot be missed. You follow your nose, still taking great care not to be taking by surprise by whoever is in here with you. In the far corner of the warehouse you find it: a single shipping crate. It looks like it has been here longer than the others, and it is covered in dust. It is also emanating the smell. Your stomach is roiling just being close to this crate, and your vision is blurring. The massive crate is closed up, but it is not locked. It would be easy to look inside. You suspect that the secret of this warehouse's unseen resident is hidden here.

But at the same time, this may be your last chance to turn around, and leave this behind. You wonder if you're prepared for the horrors on the other side of this door...

You reach forward, your shaking hand grabbing the crack in the door. You pull backward, letting the door creak open as a fresh wave of foul stench rolls out. What little light there is shines in to the crate.

You stumble backward in horror. "O-oh... oh, Dios mío, no!"

You clasp a hand over your mouth, averting your gaze from the horrific sight. At the back of the crate, a dozen desiccated bodies are piled on top of one another. Their clothes are in shreds, and the walls are stained in a dark layer of what was once blood.

Your stomach churns. You cannot move your hand before everything comes rushing up. You gag and vomit, vile liquid shooting between your fingers and onto the floor. You struggle to stand as all the strength is sapped from your knees.

All these people... dead. Someone did this to them. Someone turned them into this... this nightmare. And as a shadow shifts behind you, it begins to dawn on you who it was.

You turn to face the shadow, and find a pair of red eyes staring you down from the darkness. A hungry mouth licks its lips, and gasp rattles in the air. "Haaaaaah..."

You stumble backward, hand clasping the rosary you carry. The Lord is the only weapon you have left. You are trapped here now with this creature, though you whisper the word with only terror.

"Vampire!.."
