>Agni Kai

You reach out for the nearest book, a thick that used to be a reference book, and slowly bring it toward you. Once you have it secured, you nudge Vicart, trying to imply that he follow your lead. He nods, seeming to understand, and you prepare to move. The footsteps enter the room now, and slow to a stop. You hear him sniff the air again, and can almost feel his intensity from where you're hiding. Then, you draw your arm back and fling the book across the room, away from you and Vicart. You see quick burst of white flame fly across the room and meet the book before it even hits the ground. You and Vicart pop out from behind the desk, using this as a chance to act.

You place a hand on the desk and vault over, swinging your legs up and over and landing on the opposite side as the red haired man is still focused on the other side of the room. By the time Vicart makes it over, quite clumsily, the red haired man is already turning back to see you. He does indeed wear thick hide armor, studded and trimmed with wolf fur. In his hand is a longsword, still blazing with white fire. And of course his red hair is vibrant, shaved along the sides and back, then pulled into a tail. As he turns, you have a single moment to act before he's upon you and ready to attack. Will you:

A) Launch an attack, taking his from the rear
B) Try to escape while his back is turned
C) Try to tackle and disarm him

You weave around Vicart as he tries to steady his feet, and run into the red haired man. You lock his arm and neck in such a way that forces him to discard his sword, or risk having the arm broken all together. The sword hits the ground with a clatter, and you try to subdue him by forcing him to the ground. You are not prepared for his sheer strength, however, as he turns his back and leaps backward into the nearby wall, slamming you against the wood and masonry. You hold on, as he repeats the process twice more. On the fourth attempt, you hit the wall with your feet, and run backward up the wall, putting yourself over him. Your feet hit the ground and:

In a twist it's not going to be Leman or Donnel - it's actually just some guy that Vicart owes a debt to due to his gambling problem and alcoholism that caused him to flee the country by boat in the first place, that he conveniently didn't mention to Ross neither in his time on the ship nor in his letter when he requested aid.

The two of you battle for dominance among the burnt and ruined books of the library. Vicart stands to the side, shaking but adamant to stay in case you need help. The red haired man pushes down on you with incredible strength, but you hold out, pushing back with everything you have. You press your forehead against his, feeling his cold sweat on your head, and ask who he is, and why he is here hunting your friend. He cracks a smile, and you see a golden light begin to glow beneath his armor. Suddenly the contest is no longer even, as he twists your wrist, forcing you to kneel. He then grips your throat with his free hand, and hoists you up in the air. You kick at him with your feet, but for whatever pain it causes him, he simply lashes back when he slams you into the wooden floor, breaking it open and sending you down 10 feet, to land in a pile of rubble. You feel terrible pain in your back, and think that only your Stone Skin saved you from death in that moment. You see the red haired man leap down after you, and begin approaching.

"I am Leman, first son of Donnel, adherent to the Father of Light, Inquisitor Fidelus and keeper of the white sword. I have come to stomp out the embers of the Black Fire God's cult, and all those who would defend it."

You get up, shrugging off the pain of the fall and taking a defensive stance. He runs at you full speed, and tries to land a haymaker, which you evade surprisingly easily. He goes for another, and in that moment you realize that his strength and swordplay are clearly his forte, and unarmed combat serves him poorly. You duck and weave around his attacks with minimal effort, noting especially that he has no clue what his reach is without a sword in hand. As the dance continues, you take the time to ask what the cult is that he refers to. When you understand, you explain that neither you nor Vicart are adherent to any deity. Despite this, he doesn't seem totally convinced.

You cease evasive tactics and move to more even ground, as you begin countering his wild swings with punches and kicks of your own. Despite being able to beat on him quite harshly, he doesn't seem to be taking very much in terms of damage. Whether it's his armor or his natural fortitude, even your hardest blows only seem to stagger him slightly. Eventually, you slip and he catches your arm. The golden light beneath his robes shines again, and he flings you across the room. This time you are prepared, somersaulting when you hit the ground, and remaining unharmed. The fight drags on for quite some time, and by the end of it, the library is near ready to collapse from the damage you two have done. Eventually though, you both run out of steam, and fall over onto your hindquarters. Panting, and sweating like pigs, you two lock eyes. Vicart descends what's left of the stairs, holding a stack of books in his arms. He rushes to help you to your feet, urging you to run before Leman, as you now know he is called, can catch his breath.

You approach Leman, still struggling for breath, and hold out a hand in kindness. He hesitates for a moment, but seeing neither of you run or attack, he takes your hand and you help him to his feet. You have Vicart explain himself in full, telling Leman all about pyromancy and it's non-reliance on divine magic. It takes quite a bit of reassurance, but eventually Leman does seem to accept your story.

"I see. I apologize for my rash actions. I have caused you both no end of trouble, I allowed my pride and my desire for glory to cloud my judgment. My father told me there were no Black Fire worshipers left, since the god himself had perished, but I wanted so bad to follow in his footsteps." You see tears begin to run down Leman's face. "Please, if there's anything I can do to make it up to you, command me now."

Remembering that the library was originally abandoned and ruined before Vicart's arrival, you decide to ask Leman to accompany Vicart, and help him in his research. Vicart seems opposed to this, but you explain the benefits of having an inquisitor along on his journey.

As the three of you are ready to leave, Vicart hands you a small notebook, bound in paper. "Keep this with you. The symbols in here are what I use to manifest flames. You can apply them to most things, and they may be useful to you. I have some myself." Vicart rolls up his sleeve, and you see a line of complex tattoos running up his arm. You thank him, and pocket the book. Vicart also gifts you two scrolls, which he explains will allow you to use the same magic he did to contact you. They will apparently seek out the recipient of the message, and deliver the message well within an hour of sending it. You remember the kitchen fire, and all the trouble it caused when it occurred. You thank Vicart regardless, and wave as the two of them set off to their next destination.

You turn back south, and begin the journey home. The quest is long and quiet, and by the time you emerge from the valley, winter is gone and spring is in full swing. Birds sing, animals scurry here and there, and colorful flowers bloom all over. The weather is no longer chilly, as much as it is wet, and food is plentiful. You are even able to catch a few rabbits to eat over a warm fire. By the time you approach the mountains you call home, your body is well fed, and your muscle has gained impressive mass. You look less like a fasting monk, and more like a bear.

You reach the base of the mountain, and look up. It's familiarity is comforting. You begin the climb, almost throwing yourself up the mountainside as you ascend. When you reach the stone steps, you bend backward and take in the chill air of the temple. You approach the great red doors.

You slip through the heavy wooden door of the temple, and into the candle room. You notice that not a single candle here is lit. Usually, it was your job to light them once a week. You head through the right door of the chamber, and to the peach tree. You find the bird, munching nonchalantly on the fruit of the tree.

"Ah, it's you, man. I thought you might have died out there in the world by yourself. It's nice to see you're still alive, although the wilderness hasn't done your face any favors. If you're looking for the girl, I believe she's mixing up something foul in the kitchen again. All she ever does is make slop and shelve it."

You talk to the bid for a moment more, then head to the kitchen. When you arrive, you do see Ai in the kitchen, idly stirring a pot that pours greyish smoke all over the stone floor. You enter, smiling, and say hello. She is taken aback at first, then slowly her face turns to a frown and she turns away from you. You approach and wrap your arms around her, lifting her into the air as you squeeze. She resists just a little at first, but then she seems to melt in your arms, and relaxes.

Still holding her tight against you, you tell her how boring the trip was without her around, and ask if she was similarly affected. Ai simply nods in response. You set her down, noticing her legs wobble a bit when she lands, and ask how she's been since you departed. She folds her arms and pouts slightly. You are unsure if this is her answer, or simply her mood. At any rate, you grab hold of her waist and tell her to follow you out to the peach tree, to recount what happened. She doesn't seem to resist the pull at all, despite still looking somewhat upset. When you are both seated, and you have picked a few choice fruits, you begin telling the story

You sit and tell the story just as it happened, and exactly as you remember it. She seems to take particular interest in the book on pyromancy, and you allow her to see it when she asks. It seems she knows how to read magic, and notes on the subject, but she doesn't quite understand Vicart's notes. Once the story is done, both of you get up, and dust off your clothes. The peach tree is in full bloom, as it is year round, but something about the spring air makes it even better. You stretch, and decide what to do next.

Without further ado, you head to the garden to train. Ai seems slightly surprised by this, but goes back to her brews without any fuss. You bow and meditate before the stone statues, as always, and then proceed to practice your forms. The bird watches you as you practice Stone Skin on one of the trees, carving the shape of your balled fist in the trunk. After a few hours, Ai comes out to watch you train as well. She and the spider sit by, as you practice the forms of Drunken Boxing, which sadly culminates in a very dramatic twist of your body which tears your shirt to shreds. It would seem the muscle you put on from the return trip has become a bit much for you. Very embarrassed, but determined to improve, you rip the remainder of your shirt off and continue practicing your forms. Without it, you can move much more freely. The chill air on your skin also invigorates you. You think you may have to try this more often.

When you finally tire out, you lean back and take a deep breath, sucking in the mountain air. It feels good to be home. Ai stands, and she and the spider head off to fix something to eat. The bird, now finished giggling, compliments your physique, promising to teach you a new technique to take advantage of it. You agree, and thank him, and then proceed to practice the basics.

You have learned 'Muscle Pose', you can stun some enemies briefly as long as you aren't wearing a shirt.

Your face is red as a beet when you thank the bird, and ask him if the pose is truly a technique of the monks. He laughs. "Oh no no, I promise it is the most ancient of all techniques!" You have serious doubts, but you decide not to look a gift horse in the mouth. Some time has passed since you began practicing the new technique. You take a quick bath, washing the smell of adventure from your body, and find a new set of clothes. They are a bit itchy compared to the ones your mother made by hand, but they fit and allow you to move a bit more easily than what you wore before. After you're dry and dressed, you head to the kitchen to meet Ai. Her vegetable stew is as good as always, which of course means it's decent an filling. Over dinner, you talk about your hopes to someday reopen the temple, but are unsure exactly how to do it. She suggests earning renown by accomplishing something particularly notable, but you can't really think of anything off of the top of your head.

Once the meal is wrapped up, you stretch and yawn. The stress and fatigue from your long trip is finally hitting you, and you must fight to keep your eyes open. Ai takes the small book into the kitchen, to read while she brews. You ask what she is currently working on, but she only tells you that it's too complicated for you to understand. Seeing no real reason to press the issue, you head off to bed to get some well deserved rest. Your cell feels especially cozy and comfortable that night, most likely since you haven't slept in a room with walls in months,. Your thin mattress and blanket feel warm and soft, and lying in your bed feels like the most divine experience in the world right now. You arch your back and stretch yourself out on the bed, savoring the experience before sleep finally takes you. Your dream that night is of the temple, and what the future may hold. You see yourself, and Ai, looking over dozens of children who are eager to learn the ways of the temple. You see Vicart, studying the engravings on all of the temple walls, and even the carving in the branches of the sacred peach tree. You all live in the temple as a family of sorts. When you wake from your dream, it is nearly noon, and you are starving. You eat your fill of peaches, then find Ai to wish her good morning. The rest of the day is spent training. More days pass as normal. You receive a message from Vicart a few weeks later, talking about the strides he's made in his research. A month after that, he says that Leman has returned to his home, to see his family and see about a problem with his youngest sister. After, Vicart sends a normal message about once a month to keep up, and time continues to move forward.

It is now over one year since your return from Vicart's rescue. Your body has returned to it's usual state, but your training progresses very well. You have mastered the forms that the bird has been teaching you, and improved your Drunken Boxing movements to the point that you can attack from nearly any pose and position your body can contort to.

On a hot summer day, you finish your training for the afternoon and wipe the sweat from your brow. You walk down the raised stone platform in the garden to the mote, a channel from the peak of the mountain, and have a drink. The water is cool and refreshing. You splash your face and shake the water off. Your reflection in the water still speaks of your youth, but it also tells the story of the two years you have spent training at the temple. Your hair has grown quite long again, and you are forced to tie it back to keep it out of your face.

You stand and head back inside to see the others. You find Ai and the spider on the balcony. Ai appears to be drawing something on the stone floor in charcoal.

When Ai returns, she brings with her an armful of strange objects you were unaware were even in the temple. She sets them down and sits behind you. You feel her lift your shirt over your head. This all seems very odd, especially when she begins lightly rubbing your back and shoulders. You think to ask her what she's doing, but can't seem to find the words. Finally, you hear her rummage through some of the things she brought with her, and hear the sound of flint and steel, along with a bottle being shaken.

More sounds of small objects being handled. Ai is completely quiet, as usual, but somehow it puts you on edge more than ever. Suddenly, you feel something soft and cold on your back. It is small, like the tip of a babies pinkie finger, and makes small motions around the center of your spine. You feel it dab a few times, then pull away. Ai proceeds to rub your shoulders a bit more, relaxing you.

Then it burns. Something touches your back with the heat of a cookfire, and burns your skin. You nearly flinch away from the pain, but hold still out of fear for your own safety. When the burning stops, you feel cool air hitting your skin, and think Ai must be blowing on the burn.

You shut your eyes and try to relax your breathing. You feel the cold part again, in a slightly different spot on your back. It makes tiny swishes and dabs, then pulls away. Ai rubs your shoulders and neck, and you can feel her breath hitting your nape. Then her hands pull away. You prepare for another burn, and are slightly more ready when it arrives. This one hurts just as much as the first one, but you manage to hold still a bit better, while controlling your breath. Then, it pulls away and the process begins again. First cold, then Ai's hands, then heat. After a few burns, Ai takes her hands lower, massaging your back in the places without burns. You can feel tears running down your cheeks, but you still hold back shouts of pain. You aren't sure how many more you can take.

Ai starts the process again, dabbing you with the cold thing, then firmly rubbing her fingertips into your back, then burning your skin.

You do your best to place your mind elsewhere while Ai works on your back some more. It helps slightly, but the sudden shock of the pain makes it nearly impossible to focus on one thing. You feel the burning increase with each new repetition, until an entire section of your back is in constant pain. The worst part however, comes when the itching sets in. The dead skin on your back begins to cause a terrible need to scratch, and yet you know reaching back or even asking Ai to do it would be bad.

You continue to struggle against the pain for another hour, before you can't hold back anymore and let out a quiet grunt of pain. Then, just as the burn moves away, you feel Ai's hands come to rest on your shoulders, and then her lips on your neck. The feeling sends a shiver up your spine. She pulls back away, and you hear rummaging again. You flinch, as suddenly Ai pours cold water down your back. It eases the pain somewhat. Then, something soft begins brushing your back, leaving behind a cold, creamy feeling. Ai must be salving the burns. When she finishes, she walks back around to your front, and you see her face. She smiles shyly, and you notice that she had never gone so far as to present her face to you when you first met. She holds up her roll of paper, and you take it.

Ai tells you to sit and relax while she fetches something. You sit beneath the peach tree, and watch as the wind blows small leaves off of the branches. It relaxes you in a way, and the pain of your back begins to ebb slightly. When Ai returns, she brings a small porcelain cup and a tall bottle of green stuff. It seems familiar, and you deduce it to be of similar color and scent to the elixir she brewed for you nearly two years ago when she first came up the mountain with you. You ask about it, but she reassures you, saying that this mix is pure alcohol, and not magic in any way. She pours you a cup, and you throw it back. It is sweet, yet slightly sour, and goes down smooth as before. The pain in your back slowly fades after a minute or so. You turn to ask Ai what the meaning of the whole ordeal was. After pouring you another cup, she explains that Vicart's notes on manifesting fire, while incomplete, have promising applications. After a year of studying them, she was able to figure out something that might work, but it must be burned into flesh to do so. You drink. You scratch your chin, taking in what she said, and decide that if it means getting more of this peach wine, it may be worth it after all.

Ai reaches to pour you another cup.

The two of you sit beneath the sacred peach tree and drink the bottle of peach wine. It it only three cups before Ai begins losing herself, entertaining you to no end. You yourself take down four fifths of the bottle before it is dry as a bone. Ai mentions having two more bottles of the stuff put away, via a note that takes you nearly 5 minutes to understand. Meanwhile, she plays with your robes, revealing and then concealing your stomach as she lay in your lap. The sun has gone down, and the night air is growing cold. You know you can take another bottle of the wine before bed, but you doubt Ai could take more than three more cups before her writing became illegible.

The two of you head back inside, shutting the door to the peach tree behind you. You find another bottle of the peach wine, and head to your cell to drink it. When you arrive, you help Ai to sit down, and then do so yourself, removing the stopper in the bottle. The two of you drink, until Ai is unable to hold the brush correctly to express her thoughts to you. The bottle lies half empty now, and even without words the two of you manage to have a good time. You speak slowly, and kindly to her as she plays with various parts of your clothing. Eventually, she removes the top of your robe altogether, and looks over her work. You can't see nor imagine what she has marked into your back. She begins lightly touching the marks with her fingers, causing you to flinch in pain. It seems that although the wine has put a stop to the throbbing pain of the burns, your skin is still very sensitive. Ai leans in and kisses your burn, causing you a good deal of pain, and a quiet groan escapes your lips. She moves back to sitting position, and lays her head on your chest, just above your heart. You tell her it's alright, and that the pain doesn't last after. This calms her a bit, and she looks up at you. Her cheeks are flush with wine, and she smiles as your eyes meet. You tilt your head back and finish off the remaining half of the wine, letting it cool your throat as it washes down. After, you toss the bottle into the hall, where it shatters against the cold stone floor. You reach your arm around Ai's waist, grabbing her hip, and pull her up to you, and placing a kiss on her lips. Her arms fly around your neck, and almost immediately you have lost control of the situation. You manage to pull yourself away from her for a moment, as she bites down on your neck, causing great discomfort.

You wrestle with Ai for dominance in the situation, until you are forced to pin her to the bed using real force. You realize now that this isn't a game for Ai, and it isn't cute. The wine has brought out something animalistic inside her, and as you look down on her heaving chest and see her robes falling down her shoulder, you realize is has done the same to you. You reach down and bite on her shoulder. Something inside your head tells you this is right, and Ai comes to accept your control. The rest of the night sees the two of you treating one another not like friends, but like prey. By the time both of you are too tired to continue, you are each covered in bites and scratches, and fall asleep nearly immediately.

The next morning, you rise from bed and scratch your back. The pain seems to be gone for the most part, but you still have to be careful when touching your skin. You get to your feet, tossing off the sheets, and realize that you are entirely nude, and smell odd. You don pants, and carefully step out into the hallway, looking out for shards of glass from last night. They appear to be gone, which is relieving. You look around the temple for Ai, and find her in the kitchen, roasting something over the firepit. You look around the room and see the pelt of a mountain goat.

You ask her about last night, and what she remembers. She finds her roll of paper and brush on the counter nearby and scribbles something. When she hands it to you, you unroll it and see not so much a sentence but a very detailed and honestly flattering drawing of an event you can't help but feel slightly proud of. You roll the paper back up and hand it to her. She sets it down and approaches you, while untying her robe. As she presses your bare chests together, you reach down and force her to look at you. You and Ai both work together to finish cooking the meat, and then sit down to eat it. It's quite bland, and a bit tough, but the protein is appreciated after last night. You ask Ai where she found it, and she explains that this morning, after rolling out of bed and sweeping up the broken glass, she was desperately hungry for meat. When she went to the kitchen, her spider had somehow managed to knock a mountain goat off of the cliffside, and spend the night dragging it back up to the temple, as if it knew she would want to eat when she woke up. You tell her to thank her companion.

Once the meal is finished, you both sit on the floor of the kitchen, half nude with full bellies. The marks on your chests remain. Ai looks over to you, and the two of you make eye contact. Without another word, the both of you stand, and you grab Ai by the waist again. You tear her robes off of her and bite down on her bare shoulder, just like the night before, only this time less rough. Ai tries to fetch another bottle of peach wine, but you tell her you want to experience her with a clear mind this time. The two of you head back to your cell and spend a few hours learning each other's bodies, before Ai runs out of steam and falls asleep.

You emerge from the bed and put on pants again. You head to the garden, an find the bird perched in a high branch, seemingly in deep thought.

You check the third box on the roll and hand it backward to Ai. You hear the paper unroll, then Ai comes around to your front, already untying her robes. You grab hold of her and pull her into an embrace. The two of you spend some time warming each other beneath the tree, until you can't take the suspense anymore. You lift her and bring her back to the cell, and spend the night together.

In the morning, you awake to another meat, this time consisting of three rabbits. Ai's spider seems to be quite concerned about the both of you, but you don't have any complaints. You spend the remainder of the day training, getting marks, and loving Ai by night. The bird continues to lodge complaints on your evening activities, claiming that it has been making the animals restless. At first, you think him only being hyperbolic, but after the 7th straight day, you think he may actually be serious. At any rate, time goes by, and Ai finally tells you that she can apply the last of your marks.

As you sit beneath the tree, receiving the ink and burns, you think back on the past few weeks. It seems that hardly a night goes by that you haven't ended up in bed with Ai. It also seems lately that the peach tree has been bearing more fruit than usual. Also, many animals have been milling about near the temple, even for this time of year. As you ponder these things, Ai hands you her paper roll. She explains that the final design in the piece, the center of it's power, will determine the power granted to you. She presents options that she has worked out in the year she spent studying Vicart's notes.

Ai begins placing the final mark on your upper shoulder, within a small circle of odd, arcane symbols. The tattoo now stretches across your upper back, and down your right arm to below the elbow now. The final mark, when you look to see, takes the shape of a lion head. As Ai burns it into your skin, you feel a strange tingling sensation running through your body. You stand and admire Ai's work. It is quite beautiful, now that you see the entire thing completed. You shadow box, trying to find the right sensation to trigger the effect of the marks. You can't explain the exact feeling, but you do learn how to ignite your hands first, with quick strikes. It seems reliant on your breath somehow, and in time you are able to ignite nearly every part of your body. You notice that neither your clothes or your skin burn when you activate the ability.

After you have grown accustomed to manipulating the flames of your body, you:

You spend a bit more time admiring the marks, then turn to I and tell her to be in your cell and prepared in a few minutes. The firm commanding tone must effect her somehow, since she doesn't even bother to put her things away before running off. You yourself fetch the scrolls given to you by Vicart over a year ago, and head to the balcony to send a message. It takes a minute to figure out the way to work the scrolls, but eventually you deduce that it's as simple as writing the message on the scroll itself. You tell Vicart about Ai's work with his notes, and the technique she was able to develop with them. You also throw in a few things about your life and what you've been up to before rolling the scroll back up and watching it catch fire of its own volition, then blow away in the breeze. Assuming it worked as intended, you head to your cell and Ai. When you arrive, she is more than prepared for you, and over the course of the night, she seems especially enthusiastic about your interaction. Again, the next morning, Ai's spider works tirelessly to provide you both with fresh meat from the mountain, which you dine on before heading down to the base to train. Ai kisses you goodbye, forgoing the sash of her robes, and you slid down the slopes.

At the bottom, you find Ai's old home, now totally claimed by the wild, and full of various small creatures. You look east, to the town, and notice a great deal of smoke rising from it.

You sprint toward the town. As you draw close, you begin to hear screams. When you finally make it to the outskirts, you follow the plume of smoke to the center of the town, where your eyes behold a troubling sight. Gathered there are three horrendous beasts, all with the shape of men, but features and heads of wild beasts. One, a boar, destroys merchant stands and laughs in a high pitched and annoying squeal. The second, a wolf, feasts on a raw leg of lamb while marking a building as his territory. The final beast resembles a hawk. It seems to be the most vicious of all, despite also being the shortest in stature. It rounds up the townsfolk in a tight herd, as they cower in fear. You dash in, charging at full speed, aiming for the boar. He doesn't see you coming at all until the very last moment, when the shocked look on his face is enough to make you laugh. You slid beneath his legs and behind him, remaining in a squatted position as he turns around to see you. When his body is angled to face you, you put great force on your right foot and lift yourself up, connecting your rising fist with his jaw. On contact your fist ignites and trails a huge blaze of fire. Your attack lift both of you into the air, at least 15 feet, and at the apex of the jump, the flames of your arm burst outward, creating a spectacular display, before the shockwave sends the boar flying backward and into a building, where he smashes into the brick wall, and hits the floor with a thud. He is charred black, you notice, as you come to land on the ground once more. You shake the remaining flames from your hand and look at the two remaining beasts. The wolf's jaw is hanging loose, but the hawk still seems determined.

You charge again, this time at the hawkman. He sees your approach, and begins dancing, hopping back and forth one each foot. When you are near enough, you hop in the air, and attack with a burning heart roundhouse, but it does not connect. You hit the ground, and the hawkman is gone. Or so you think, until you feel something sharp rake across your back. You roll forward and turn around to see the hawkman, with one leg raised in the air, and talons soaked in blood. Seeing you outwitted, the wolfman seems to regain his confidence, and the both of them rush to attack you.

As you streak through the air, your body bursts into flame, and upon collision the wolfman is sent flying back by another explosion. He rolls on the ground, then comes to sliding stop. You see that he isn't finished yet, but as you prepare to finish him off, you notice the hawkman coming down on you with a kick. He follows up with several fast and sharp kicks once he touches ground, and you have a bit of trouble evading them all. He seems to be able to hover just off the ground when he hops, making predicting his movements quite difficult. Soon, the wolfman is back up and in the fray, and you are forced to evade the both of them. In response, he tries to kick with his remaining leg, but you catch that one as well. You swing the hawkman over your head, and slam him into the cobblestone floor. You raise your leg off of the ground, keeping eye contact with the wolf. You bring down your foot with great force and blazing fire, killing the hawkman on impact with his neck. The wolfman seems shocked by this, but is not deterred even now. You admire his courage, but this instills no sympathy for him in your heart.

The two of you rush at each other, meeting in the middle of the square and entering a lightning fast bout, wherein he attempts to scratch at you with his claws, and you block his attacks while laughing. He desperately tries to land a blow, but it is clear to you that the hawkman was the most powerful of the trio. When you grow bored of the farce, you catch the wolfman's arm as he swipes, and break it with a simple twist. You then reach your free hand back, light it, and plunge it deep into his chest, and out the other side. He coughs up a large spurt of blood. When you remove your hand, it is soaked in his innards, and he collapses to the floor. The townsfolk are shocked. They seem to have no idea how to react. "Stop this at once! I am no god! I am but a man who has worked very hard and received very good instruction. Anyone with a good heart and the dedication necessary can do what I have. If any would like to learn, follow me back to my home.

...crap. We're gonna get ganked by Leman again, aren't we. Because Donnel killed a god, and Leman wants to be just like daddy dearest.

I don't see why he would, once we explain the situation.
Or if we defuse this situation right now!

You try your best to explain to them that you are as mortal as they are, but the few who seem to listen and cease kneeling are pulled back down to a bow by those who don't. Some of them now bring bottles of wine and baskets of fruit, meat and bread. They pile them in front of you ask they kiss your feet, careful to never make eye contact. Finally you are fed up. You stomp your foot and command them to stop. When your foot hits the ground, the earth beneath you shakes slightly, and your voice booms like thunder. It is so fierce, it surprises you as much as the townsfolk. They cease all movement and speech, and look directly at you, as if waiting for you to order them again. You take a deep breath, and explain that all your power is but a result of training, and that they too can be as you if they climb the mountain and join the temple. They nod in understanding, and you feel relieved to see things sorted out. They still seem to stare, however.

Obviously our last meeting was a trick. We decieved him with our heretical godly trickery. But even aside from such obvious in-character stupidity... well...
Allow me to explain my reasoning.
One of the first things I can remember learning is Murphy's Law.
I do not fear gods. I would, but all my fear is reserved for Murphy.
His will is suffering, and all shall feel his touch.

One of the older men approaches you, bowing, and falls on his knees before you, touching his forehead to the ground.

"A horrid monster has appeared on the other side of the mountain, oh Mountain God. He defiles your domain, and sends his beastmen to pillage and ransack our town and our fields. We have prayed for the help of the mountain spirits, and now you have come to save us! We thank you for your divine protection, Mountain God. Please, we will pay anything you ask as tribute if you defeat the Beast King!"

You shout, telling him for the last time that you are only mortal. To convince them, you offer to help them fix the town with your own two human hands. The townsfolk rejoice, and the men get to their feet and begin clearing debris and gathering tools. Meanwhile, the old woman who first approached you stands and addresses the people, "The Mountain God has laid down his first edict! Those who work hard with their own hands will be rewarded by the Mountain God!" The people feverishly work to fix their burned homes. You join in, keeping your promise, all the while telling them not to call you the Mountain God. When you finish, the town looks to be in good working order, though still in need of some polish, and it is nearly sundown. The people once again offer you food and drink.

Take nothing and go home. I think we should ask Vicart and Leman if they want to help us out with the beast men. If we stage it to look like those two did all the slaying the people will stop worshiping us.

>B) Take a little to get them to stop
>D) "For the last time, I'm human. Just like the rest of you. I got to be this awesome because I worked at it. All of you can do the same. I'll teach you, if you want. But I. Am not. A god."

You refuse the offerings head home, shouting about your need for disciples as you leave. The people cheer as you go. You head back to Ai's old home and make your way back up the mountain to the temple. When you get home, you greet Ai, telling her that you'll talk in a minute. You head to the balcony with your remaining scroll, and send a message to Vicart regarding the Beast King, and asking him to contact Leman for help if he can.

With that wrapped up, you head to the peach tree to get a bite. Ai is already there, playing with her spider. She hold up her paper roll, asking what the matter is.

A) Tell her the whole story
B) Tell her about the beastmen
C) Tell her about the townsfolk
