You are Captain WILLIAM PIERCE, a combat rescue officer of the United States Air Force. You've spent the last couple of days trying to readjust to life outside of the hospital, but events had proved... hectic. You've been in two parties over two days, and now you feel utterly exhausted.

You also wake up in the morning to find yourself buried under a pile of witches, all snoring loudly.

You... don't quite remember how you got into this predicament, though you are guessing Bree had something to do with it. As if on cue, Bree walks in, already cleaned up and prepared for the day and holding to mugs of coffee.

"Morning, bro. Looks like you had a hectic night!" Your older sister snickers.

"Ha. Ha." You say unamused. "You mind helping me out here?"

"Eventually." Bree shrugs. "I like you a lot more this way. Coffee?"

"Once I get out of here." You say as you wriggle your way out of the witch pile, causing a lot of drowsy groans as your movement wakes some of the witches up.

"That's not nice." Bree says as she hands you one of the mugs.

"That's rich, coming from you." You retort. "Where are my witches?"

"Already up and about. That's where I got this coffee from." Bree says. "Anyways, a call came in for you. Straight from Colonel Anderson."

"Crap, I guess I better get to it, then." You sigh as you test the temperature of the coffee. Seeing that it wasn't too hot, you gulp the whole mug down. "If I don't come back, know that I have always greatly disliked you, Bree."

"Same here, little bro." Bree laughs.

You don't really have time to properly clean yourself up, so you opt to throw on a fresh shirt and splash some water on your face. Now sort of prepared for the day, you exit the barracks and hitch a ride to the HQ building.

Upon entering Anderson's office, the first you notice is that there was one other man in the room, dressed in a very sharp suit that just screamed SPOOK.

"Ah, Pierce, you're finally here." Anderson nods at your arrival. "Please, sit down."

You decide to keep quiet and sit down, and Anderson coughs a bit before starting.

"I know you would've liked more time to familiarize yourself to Germany, Pierce, but unfortunately circumstances have occurred that have forced our hand."

"Are you saying-"

"You're being assigned to a mission. A high level one, at that."

"W-what?" You blink. "But sir-"

"I know, you think you might not be ready, but while you were laid up in the hospital your witches have more than proved themselves capable, and if there was anybody else that could do it, well, I would have picked them first." Anderson sighs. "Agent West here will brief you on the rest."

"Captain." The newcomer stands up and politely shakes your hand. "As the Colonel here has said, I'm Agent West, from the CIA."

You nod. You suspected as much, and your wariness grows. The CIA was only involved in really hairy stuff.

"What I'm about to tell you top secret." West says flatly, as if he's recited that lie countless times. "It's limited to your unit and to your unit only. Is that clear?"

"Crystal."

"Good." West nods and hands you a folder with the big red letters TOP SECRET stamped all over it. "For a bit of background, the CIA has an asset within the KGB, placed very highly and wiling to leak us information. He's codenamed Sirius. Just a few days ago, we received intel suggesting that a high value Russian asset was willing to defect to the United States."

Ugh. Spycraft. That always spelled trouble.

"So I suppose we're going to get to the actual mission details?" You sigh. You have the feeling spies loved to hear themselves talk.

"The HVT in question is Dr. Nikolai Sokolov, one of Russia's foremost experts in striker technology." West continues. You open the folder and immediately see a picture a mousy looking man who no doubt was this Sokolov guy. "Getting him out and into our hands would be a major intelligence coup. Not only is he basically the head of Russia's striker research, but he has details of Russia's latest armor and plane designs."

You nod. That would certainly help the war effort, knowing what the Russians were going to deploy on the field and how to counter them.

"And I suppose that means we're going behind enemy lines." You sigh.

"Correct." West nods. "Currently, Sokolov is stationed in a fortified research base in southern Russia. It's too dangerous for helicopters so you'll have be living up to your name for this one."

"Paradrop?" You managed to hid the frown from her your face.

"HALO jump, to be more precise." West nods. "For now, that's all you need to know. We'll release further details once we get closer to the mission date."

With that, Agent West gives both of you a polite nod and exits the room.

"Well, that's the score." Anderson sighs. "Anyways, you of course are not going in alone, but we need to keep the team small. In addition to your team, you'll be going in with a team of Deltas. Our SF witches also got something special for your witches as well."

"I'm actually interested in this "special" thing you've got in store." You say.

"You got it." Anderson nods. "I'll send a call out to your witches. You can meet them at Hangar T."

You nod. If you remember correctly, that was the hangar reserved for the sole use of SOF witches. It was heavily guarded by MPs, and hardly anybody was allowed inside, even other witches. Even though you haven't been here long, the dark rumors about what goes on in Hangar T have spread far and wide, especially since it never opens unless it's the middle of the night.

"I'll be there, sir."

Anderson is kind enough to summon a driver to take you to Hangar T. He drops you off and leaves without a word, as if the area made him nervous. Actually, it made you nervous as well, since aside from the heavily armed MPs and Air Force guards, there was not a soul to be seen around here.

"You. Identification and purpose." One of said heavily armed MPs says gruffly, one hand reaching out to you and the other securely gripping his M16.

"Captain William Pierce." You say, handing your ID to him to inspect. "I'm here under Colonel Anderson's orders."

"Hmmm..." The MP carefully scrutinizes your ID before finally nodding. "Okay, you check out."

"Did three witches happen to drop by yet?" You ask, looking around.

"No sir, haven't seen any witches come by today."

You decide to wait for you witches, so you don't go in right away.

"Waiting for my witches." You explain to the MP.

"Whatever you say, sir." The MP grunts and returns to his guard position.

Huh, not exactly the talkative type.

You only have to wait for five more minutes before you seen another Humvee approach, carrying your three witches. Red, Janice, and Tarin step out, thanking the driver for his service.

"Identification, please." The MP grunts, going through the same routine. You guess that not even witch privilege would fly with these guys. The MP glances at Janice and Tarin's IDs, but spends the most time on Red's. He then narrows his eyes. "Wait, are you sure you're a witch?"

"Why would you ask that?" Red blinks.

"You're wearing pants."

"UGH!" Red sighs. "Seriously!? That's like, straight up discrimination right there! What, you just let any pantsless girl waltz in here?"

The MP just looks on, silent and unamused.

"FINE! Here's your proof." Red grumbles as she summons her familiar, her ears and bushy tail popping into existence.

"Good enough." The MP shrugs and returns the IDs. "You're cleared to enter."

With that, the four of you enter Hangar T... and find nothing. Besides all of the strikers and military gear laying around, there doesn't appear to be anybody inside the hangar.

You decide to take the chance to poke around. How many chances would you get to look around in an SF witch domain?

"Are you sure this is smart, sir?" Red asks cautiously.

"As long as you don't touch anything." You say. "And stay close."

Looking around, you see that this place was essentially an armory. It sort of made sense, considering the fact that SF witches were usually given experimental or cutting edge equipment to test out. They couldn't very well stock all of that in the regular armory. You see racks of short barreled assault rifles Too small to be M16s, but at the same time to large to be CAR-15s. You assume it's some sort of new variant. In the back, you can see stands holding black painted strikers of various types, both for aircraft and tanks.

"C-can I help you?" You hear a soft voice squeak. You nearly jump in the air in surprise when you realize the voice is coming from behind. You never even heard anybody approaching. Red and Janice are likewise caught by surprise. You can't really tell with Tarin though, since she remained unfazed.

"Ah, I'm sorry, it's just that we were told to come here and we didn't find anybody..." You turn to face a very young looking witch. Probably younger than Red. And she was SF?

"Y-yeah, I'm sorry about that." The witch sighs "I was actually testing out the new set of strikers we got to make sure they were ready."

"Ah, I see, um..." You realize you never got her name.

"Lieutenant Dorothy Z-Zelko." The witch stammers. "Though y-you can just call me Ghost."

"Are you the only one here?" You ask, looking around suspiciously as if more witches might suddenly just drop out of nowhere.

"Oh yes, I'm a-afraid I am." Ghost says meekly. "The rest of my unit are actually out on mission right now. Th-they left me here to help train your witches."

"Okay, I'm getting a bit tired of people being constantly vague." You sigh. "Can you please explain to me straight why we're here?"

"W-well." Ghost blinks. "Look here."

The witch guides you and your team to the back of the hangar, where you see several strikers set up. However, they're a bit different from what you've usually seen. Instead of the smooth and streamlined shapes of F-16 or F-15s, these strikers here hard and angular, giving them an odd, jagged look.

"What am I looking at here?" You ask.

"F-117 Nighthawk strikers." Ghost explains. "S-sort of the Air Force's little secret. These strikers, and the planes they're based on, are capable of being nearly invisible to radar."

"What?" Janice steps forward. "But only a certain few witches could ever defeat radar detection. Do you mean tell me that you found a way to artificially replicate it?"

"Y-yes, in a nutshell." Ghost nods. "The planes work by deflecting and absorbing radar away with their geometry and construction. The strikers have specialized foci that when powered, create a shield that not only protects from physical danger, but can also absorb incoming radar waves. It also reduces your IR signature, too."

"What's the catch?" Tarin asks.

"Ah, well..." Ghost bites her lip. "If you're used to dogfighting, you're going to hate adjusting to Nighthawks, because the specialized foci are extremely delicate. As a result the Nighthawk strikers aren't nearly as fast or maneuverable as normal strikers."

"So we'd really be relying on our stealth to give us an edge." Janice concludes.

"Y-yes, and don't forget, this only makes you invisible to radar. They can still see you if you're not careful."

"Cool." Red says, eyeying the strikers. "You think they make a man portable version of these?"

"Um... I don't think so?" Ghost says, a bit confused.

"Okay, but what if we need something a bit more high performance?" You ask.

"I-In that case..." Ghost motions to another row of strikers. These were similarly painted black, but had a more familiar shape. "Those are the newest prototypes for the F-15 Silent Eagle variant. It's a blend between the F-15's performance with the stealth of the F-117, but obviously there's still tradeoffs. But since it's based on the F-15, it WOULD be easier for your witches to acclimate to..."

Admittedly the other two competitors dropped out because of some pretty sketchy circumstances.

I just wish they didn't piss away our international reputation by making so flipping obvious that they were gunning for the F-35 in the first place. You'd think they'd gotten the hint after Dassault refused to participate.

"Well, what do you two think?" You ask Janice and Tarin. After all, it was them two that would have to be flying the things.

"I don't know... from what Anderson told us this would mostly likely be a ground operation, so ideally we'll act in a support role." Janice frowns. "And since it's a covert mission, by the time the Russians can scramble air assets we're already in huge trouble."

"Yeah, I think a stealth mission needs stealth gear." Tarin nods.

"Okay, then I guess we'll have to go with the Nighthawks." You tell Ghost. "I suppose we need to get started on this right away?"

"Yep. No telling when you'll have to go out, so the sooner the better." Ghost nods. "How did the too of you deal with striker acclimatization?"

"It's honestly something I don't like to repeat." Janice laughs weakly.

"Don't like it at all." Tarin says bluntly.

"Oh boy, we're in great luck here." Ghost sighs, and turns to you and Red. "Well, I'm going to have my hands full. You two can do what you like. Stay and watch, look around, go and do something else, whatever. I have to put these two witches here back to basics."

You kind of find it amusing that Janice and Tarin, well into their 20s, were having to take orders from a meek girl who couldn't have been more than 16 or 17. Odd times.

>>
>>29124918

You really need to blame the marines for that.

The VTOL capability was the one thing they refused to give up since theres nothing in sight to replace the Harriers.

And thus, the plane needed that centerfan which block the rear view and needs a single engine so that pilots dont die trying to restart one (In a single engine VTOL, if the engine dies, you just hit the eject).
>>
>>29124849
>Let's stay and watch the trainwreck.
>>
>>29124952
>And thus, the plane needed that centerfan which block the rear view and needs a single engine so that pilots dont die trying to restart one
Not so, the reason the F-35B has that design is that Boeings vectored and directed thrust design, based on the harriers system for the X-32, wasn't ready in time for the trials, so by default the Lockheed-Martin design won (even though it was fucking shit, and unreliable and will kill plenty of pilots).

the only requirements the marines had, were that it could STOL & VTOL to replace their harriers, thats it
>>
>>29125091

...Isn't that what I said?

That marines need VTOL, and that the terrible VTOL design needs the centerfan?
>>
>>29125133
MUH REENS
>>
>>29125133
>and that the terrible VTOL design needs the centerfan
but thats the thing, it does not need that design, the marines were about to pull out of the JSF program because of Lockheed-Martin fucking around, being retarded and not actually designing a decent product. the VTOL requriement can be filled by at least 3 different designs, but LM went with the separate liftfan because they were over budget and Boeing snapped up the McDouglas engineers who made the harrier before LM could when Boeing bought MD.

The parasite engine liftfan is the worst of all possible ways to achieve a VTOL capable craft, fuck Yakolev tried at it for 50 years and could never get it right, and they are waaaay more competent than LM

"I sorta want to see how this goes." You say. "Never actually seen witches trying out new strikers."

"Oh b-believe me, it's n-not pretty." Ghost warns. "Witches bumping into things, getting dizzy, throwing up all over the place..."

"Whoa, can you repeat that last part?" You blink

"Basically," Janice interjects. "every striker is somewhat unique. It's not like swapping from an F-16 to an F-15 for regular pilots, where they just have get used to slightly different control schemes and handling characteristics. For witches though, they literally interface with their strikers. Like... our bodies and the strikers become one. The closest analogy I can think of is getting a vaccine shot. Your body reacts negatively at first but eventually you don't feel a thing."

"I see." You nod. "Well, don't let me stop you."

With that, Ghost calls in a team of striker techs, and they help Janice and Tarin into the new Nighthawk strikers. Immediately, you can see Janice and Tarin look uncomfortable, as if they've just put on really really itchy socks or something.

"Okay, we're just going to take this slow." Ghost says, donning her own Nighthawk strikers. "Just follow me."

In contrast to Ghost's perfectly straight line, both Janice and Tarin fly around like drunken fleas, often swinging and swerving and bumping into the things .The techs, obviously used to this sort of thing, helpfully remain on standby to push Janice and Tarin away from anything that might hurt them.

You think it's sort of worth it, to actually see the normally confident Janice and stoic Tarin out of their element. One more thing you learned about the mysterious world of witches.

"Man, I do not envy those two." Red says, trying to stifle a laugh. "I really shouldn't be laughing, I had to go through the same thing!"

"Heh, I guess having sparkly powers isn't all it's cracked up to be, huh?" You grin.

"Um Captain Pierce?" One of the techs walks up to you.

"Yeah?" You ask.

"A call just came in from an Colonel Anderson. He says that you and your subordinate here should take refresher course on HALO drops, as soon as possible."

Well, it seems like karma has caught up you.

"Oh..." Your stomach drops.

"What, you don't like HALO?" Red blinks.

"Let's just say I had a bad experience." You sigh?

"Well, this is fun and all, but I think we should go meet the Deltas that we're going to have to work with." You say.

"I guess." Red nods. "Hey, Janice, Tarin, good luck!"

"You're not sure if Janice and Tarin didn't hear Red or were to busy not trying to crash into things to respond, but you give them a quick wave anyways before leaving. Fortunately, you didn't really have to go far, since the regular SF guys were actually based pretty closed to their witch counterparts. Sure enough, you find several hardened looking soldiers just casually hanging about, their unit patches signifying that they part of the mythical Delta Force, one of the most elite Special Forces units in the world.

"Hey now." One of them looks up to see you two approach. "You don't happen to be those PJs we're supposed to going on a joint op with?"

"I'm pretty sure we are." You confirm.

"Well hey there!" He steps forward to shake your hand. "You can just call me Lex. I run this little ragtag band here. These here are my squaddies Beagle, Kilroy, and Mitch."

The other three Deltas all say their greetings to you.

"Well, I'm Captain Pierce, and this here is my subordinate Lieutenant Kelsey, though everybody just calls her Red."

"Whoa, they let girls into the PJs now? That's news to me." Lex blinks.

"I'm a witch." Red sighs.

"Then why are you wearing pants?"

"Every goddamn time!" Red throws her hands up in the air and the Deltas burst out into laughter.

"I'm just messing with you, kid! So yeah, it seems we'll be working together for the time being."

"You have a point." You nod. Deltas were many things. But at the end of the day, they were merely gunmen. Extremely well trained gunmen, but their purpose was still ultimately make sure certain people ended up dead. "We tend to patch people up, not shoot them."

"Now, we're going to have a lot of ground to cover, so we'll need to make choices on what to concentrate on." Lex says. "What do you guys think you need to improve on the most?"

"I think we could use some pointers in stealth." You say.

"Good choice." Lex says and turns to the rest of his squad. "Okay guys, it's time to play tag."

"Wait, what." You blink.

"Well, no better practice than to try your luck against the best, right?" Lex gives a wry grin. "So, our plan here is to pretty much drop you off in the forest and we improvise from there."

"Is this really how you operate or are you just screwing with us?" You sigh.

"A little bit of both."

And so begins your harsh training at the hands of a team of very sadistic Deltas...

Gonna have to say hiatus if necessary. We're far enough along now that people are becoming invested in the characters. And not just the folks who waifu a new witch after a couple lines of dialogue and one piece of art gets posted. It'd be a shame to wrap things up messily.

Focus on Cyberpunk, but keep PJs going on the side, maybe not entirely as a full quest, but in chapter updates at the end of threads and stuff.
