>Sunday, 22nd September, 2013

You awaken to a shut off TV, a grey day outside, and a sticky note stuck to your face.

You remember what you did yesterday, so that’s a start; You did end up meeting Fay’s Freshman Mountie cadets and enjoyed their company for the most part. Heck, you even found a workable Valentine tank together, despite the fact that no-one around you seemed to have thought the thing could even work.

As you think about that, you frown. If no-one else thought the Valentine was ever going to come close to working, does that mean that it’s probably not going to work anyway? Always something to consider for the future you think as you get up, pulling the post it note from your face, maybe it’s something you could ask the Aces about.

You turn the sticky note stuck to your face over and read it. It’s written in Maries familiar scrawl.

>DON’T WORRY WE DIDN’T DRAW DICKS ON YOUR FACE P.T.O

You turn the page over and read the back of the sticky note:

>PSYCH! Also, Arcadia dropped off your luggage.

You grit your teeth in a form of silent tantrum. AGAIN!? MOTHERFU-

Something has to be done about that, but you also have a few other things you kinda want to do first, you frown as you flop down on the couch.

Eh, Revenge can always wait for later. Marie won’t be going anywhere this early.

Flopping back onto the coach, you pull out your phone and flip open the email app, flicking back through the messages until you find the two old ones you left from yesterday, as well as one extra.

> Jessie Duke – DO YOU NEED SOMETHING DELIVERED FAST!?

> Jessie Duke – DO YOU NEED SOMETHING DELIVERED FAST!?

Contorting your face into some sort of confused and concentrated frown, you decide to give this Jessie Duke girl and her emails a second look. It mustn’t be spam – the school system would have picked up on it straight away considering it would have to beat military grade firewall system and an IT department made of some of the nerdiest students you know. You open the oldest one – from yesterday.

>ARE YOU SICK OF THIS SCHOOLS PROPERTY/DELIVERY POLICY?

You sit and think for a minute. You kind of are. I mean, Lost Property of your luggage was singularly unhelpful.

>DID YOU NEED THAT IMPORTANT THING* DELIVERED YESTERDAY!?

Well, a couple days in the same clothes didn’t help your mood, that’s for sure.

>WELL GOOD NEWS!

Ugh. The All Caps is starting to hurt your eyes a bit.

>Myself, my sister Daisy and our cousins Lucy and Bonnie are Freshman who have just started at Sherbrooke Girls High. At our old school we ran a highly profitable business designed to get you what you need, when you need it**.

You decide to check what the stars mean. Well terms and conditions, obviously, but exactly what’s in the T&C you need to worry about…

>*By important thing we mean nothing illegal.
>** Seriously, no drugs.

You resume reading properly.

>All you need to do is call the number provided and tell our wonderful operators want you want delivered and provide a small fee of our choosing (usually $20), and we’ll deliver it to you.

You note down the number before you close the email. That could come in hand later, and if it doesn’t it’s no skin off your back. Not exactly a lose-lose situation anyway you look at it.

You close your emails and look outside. It actually looks like it’d be a great day to go and do something like a picnic with the other tankery girls if it wasn’t cold and snowy.

Suddenly, your phone rings in your hand.

You flick the answer button to the side of the screen and pull the phone closer to your ear.

“Hello?”

“Ah yes, Ms LeClerc. I have a few more things I have to discuss with you.” Charlotte DeGaul says in her usual clipped tones. “Since you have a few tanks, and, by the whispers of the naval studies students I overhear, a couple crews, I feel now is a good time, if you’ve got a minute?”

“Sure thing, Headmistress”

“Right, well, first things first: I’ve arranged for a tour down below decks the day after tomorrow. That’s Tuesday. Naval Studies Student Amelia Nelson will be showing you around. There seems to be the belief there’s a couple Tanks down below, so try to find those and try not to get lost, okay?”

“Okay.”

“Now, to more serious business. I have been advised by the School Board that I should advise you further about the situation. You remember my chat about Tankery being a time honoured tradition at this school?”

“….yes?”

“Excellent. Anyway, that time honoured tradition line wasn’t just some trick to get you to start up a new team so we don’t end up forfeiting the season. It’s actually very important, especially financially. Half of our Alumni donations, donations that we need to stay afloat if you’ll excuse the pun, come from having a fully fledged and capable Tankery Team contending in the Canada and North America Division of the ITL. These funds are diverted to the clubs and other services that we provide…..”

>NOTE: The fortunes of the school rise and fall depending on your successes. If you lose badly or continue to lose, be prepared for some hard times including loss of cash, morale loss as clubs merge/disband, and other consequences. This can be reversed with some close results or wins, which can yield positive results such as extra cash flow, morale boosts and other to-be-advised bonuses.

“…is that clear?”

“Uhhhhh, yeah” You say slowly. Geez, no pressure or anything.

“With that in mind, it would be a great idea to get a practice match in ahead of time. You may need to send emails away to different schools and see what their schedules are. Maybe try talking with Sandra to find what schools.”

“Okay, I’ll get onto that tonight. Thankyou, Headmistress.”

“Thankyou, Evelyn. We’re counting on you.”

The line goes dead. You frown and gulp down a small bit of anxiety at the news. Well, no pressure or anything.

“Everything alright, Lynn?” Marie asks, looking concernedly at you as you flip the phone back into your pocket.

“…and Haley, how many crews do we have?”

“Trois. Us, The Mounties, and the Newfoundlands.”

“Right, we need more crews” You say “Time to sort out our manpower issue.”

“Why not that park we found the Valentine in?” You say, shrugging “Surely some weird nerds we can recruit are hanging around down there….”

“Actually, that’s a really good point.” Marie says.

You begin walking off in the direction of the park, arriving there a half hour later.

There are a couple groups of students set up in various groups. One group seems to be using the parks small amphitheater to argue or perform in some melodramatic fashion. You’re not sure which. Further off to your right along the park benches seems to be a group of girls you recognize from your art class last year who seem to be chattering amongst themselves and sketching.

“Well, there’s definently people here” Marie says next to your elbow.

“Yeah” You agree “But do they have what it takes to become full blown Tankery Nerds?”

“Well, those sketchers might.” Marie says, pointing at the group sitting on the bench. “Speaking of nerds: that’s Sherbrookes Comics Society.”

“But they’re not doing stand-up.” You say, confused.

“Not that comic. You know Marvel, DC, Vertigo? That kind of stuff.”

Ohhhhhhh.

“I didn’t know there were enough girls into comics to warrant something like that” You say, looking down at Marie.

Marie’s face looks about as sour as if she’d been given a lemon for the first time in her life. “I can’t believe there’s enough girls on Sherbrooke who think Dick Grayson is like OMG just the hottest ever to warrant it” She says, disgusted “Though, these girls all seem like the kind who make their own comics, which is to be commended. Some of their stuff gets published in the library, it’s pretty good.”

“I’ll take your word for it” You say, as a small Hispanic looking girl tries weaving her way through you, knocking shoulders with Marie accidentally. The girl stumbles and falls, spilling a binder of loose leaf sheets all over the ground.

“Hey sorry about that” You say kindly as you go to pick up the girls papers for her, handing them to her as she quickly tucks them into her binder. You get a look at the name on the binder and then at the girl who’s holding the binder’s face and recognize both: Jimena Lee.

[1/2]
>>
[2/2]

You both did an art project together last year. She seemed real nice if a bit quiet. You also remember her as a complete comic nerd. She must be an integral part of this group.

“Real sorry about that” Jimena almost whispers apologetically “Got to watch where I’m going sometimes.”

“Eh, its nothing.” You say, handing her back a sheet of paper that when you look at it looks like-

OHMYGODITSAPANTHERTANK.

A very cool looking Panther, shaded and everything. You try and hand it back before Jimena suspects something is up, but by then she’s already looking at you with an eyebrow raised.

“Is there something about that page I can help you with?” She asks, hands on hips.

“Uh, yeah….I’m Evelyn LeClerc” You say, brow furrowing with confusion “Is that a Panther tank? It’s really good.”

Jimena just glares at you and grabs your arm, dragging you off to the side of the main body of sketchers.

“Whoah wait what!?” You say, tugging at your sleeve as Jimena pulls you, and by the looks of it, your trailing crew in front of a group of three other girls who all look up from their sketch pads to notice you.

“Okay, you got me” Jimena says.

....

Hang on, What!?

You’re saved by the fact your face might be showing your confusion at the whole situation. Jimena notices as she begins.

“Yes, that’s a Panther. I’m drawing comic books that I’d want to read, and the capeshit crap the other girls make doesn’t really appeal all that well to me.” Jimena says, sighing “The Panther was there because I’m trying to get published by Commando. You know the World War 2 comics. I grew up on that shit, and I want to see whether I’m good enough to get published by them.”

“O-okay” you stutter, still caught off guard. “How did you get the reference for the Panther?”

“I play a bit of Company of Heroes” Jimena says “I kind of…extrapolated from there.” Jimena seems to stutter step and put a hand to her face as she introduces the other three sketchers.

“Sorry Evelyn, where are my manners.” Jimena says “The other three comic producers I managed to convince to work on Commando: Amelia Johns, Sue Brubaker, and Julia-Michelle. I’ve tried pronouncing her name but its polish or something.”

“It’s Strazyincski, you cunt” Julia-Michelle says from behind her pad.

“Yeah, that.” Jimena says confidently.
You fold your arms and nod slowly. There’s four of them – they could definitely fit into a tank given half a chance.

Jimena looks across at each of her fellow comic aficionados and they all lower their pads, nodding slowly. Jimena just fist pumps, grinning from ear to ear.

You stop in at Burger King and get something light to tide you over til lunch. You decide on a cheeseburger. Marie decides on three. You roll your eyes as she continues to munch contentedly.

“You’re going to get fat, Marie” You say with mock concern.

“Only in my twenties” She says, shrugging and taking another bite.

You take another bite of your cheeseburger and look over at your new Comic Crew. They seem right at home amongst your crew and Jimena seems to be chatting excitedly with Haley about some form or another of the French Military. Maybe it has something to do with a comic or something.

“Hmmmm, what have we got?” Jimena asks.

“A Turan?” Jimena asks “Hungarian?”

“Yeah”

“What about us?” Alexis asks.

“Lake Amherst” You say confidently “Surely someone got excited at seeing that giant French D2 rising from the lake like a majestic water beast.”

“Poetic” Marie chuckles.

The trip to Lake Amherst takes a good half an hour or so, and you find yourself looking over the pristine blue water of the lake. There’s a few groups of girls all wandering around, but a few in particular catch your eye.

There’s a group of three girls sitting around in a rotunda, one of them picking a guitar idly while they chat to each other.

There’s another group you can see in another rotunda practicing lines from a play of some kind. They seem to be gesturing very wildly and dramatically. That’s kind of weird.

There’s another group of girls wandering down the path towards you, arguing quite loudly. They seem to be arguing so loudly, in fact, you can hear them from a good few hundred meters away. They seem to be arguing about the Iraq War.

You decide to bite the bullet, and your lip, as you go after the arguing girls who seem to be walking down the path towards you. The closer they get to you, the more aggressive they get about their opinions.

“So what Im saying was that it was all about America getting their Oil” The one furthest from you says “There’s no other explanation that makes sense to me.”

“Oh, pull your head out of your ass Stephanie” The one at the head of the group says “It was clearly a way of the Americans attempting to fix their biggest foreign policy fuckup of the last fifty years.”

“Oh fuck off, Georgia.” A Third responds “It was clearly Bush trying to fight his daddy’s war for him. Speaking of which, they are honestly the royalty of the US, don’t you think?”

A fourth girl just shakes her head “The Kennedy’s.”

And with that, you’re pretty much standing face to face. They all stop and stare at you as if you’ve snapped them out of a fugue state. Georgia looks at you, and offers her hand.

“Okay, well, you wanted to know what the deal was with money making and we’ve got a few options….” There’s a few crumpled bit of paper on the other “Oh, here we are…”

“First of all we’ve got Duke couriers. They pay $20 a delivery. If we do a whole day we could get a few hundred dollars.”

“Alternatively, we had a chat with Mr Coapes and he would be willing to pay us, or even provide store credit for us if we help out around his store. Washing tanks, taking tanks apart, putting them back together…that sort of thing.”

“Could also help with maintenance of our own tanks further on down the line.” You say.

“Yeah, that’s what I thought too.” Jimena says
“Final one took a bit of searching, but there’s actually a jobsearch application available around the ship that you can access from your phone. It’s definitely worth a look.”

“Explain.”

“Okay, all you do is email your student ID and the day you want to work and they email you back the job they have sorted for you around the ship – whether in a store or something. All you have to do is be where they tell you to work when you said you’d work.”

“Hmmmm, that sounds good. Thanks Jimena”

“Hey, that’s not quite fair. We haven’t found all of the tanks yet.” You protest. Marie just shakes her head at you.

“And what if they’re shit? I’m talking about the Matilda and the Tetrarch. We need serious firepower. This instructor isn’t going to do shit if we don’t have some serious firepower.”

“Well, what do you suggest, oh fearsome leader.” You say in mock humility. Marie just pokes her tongue playfully back at you.

“I don’t know. I mean we could check the internet store again or ask Mr Coape what we can do to the tanks we have; that seems as good an idea as any. Or we could put through some calls to various people – Tank Museums and the like. See if they have anything they’d offer us on a loan deal?”

“Seems legit” you say, nodding. “We do have the debate team looking at it, though”

“And what fun that will be” Marie mutters contemptuously.

You step into the KFC that the girls have picked and order a bucket between the lot of you, slowly and quietly munching down delicious fried chicken as you go.

“Th schtuff ish sho good” you say in between mouthfuls “I was so hungry…”

“We noticed” Alexis says cheekily. You choose to ignore that. Fried Chicken before bitchiness.

“Any word on what the other crews were up to today?”

“Actually yeah. No word on the Mounties at all. Fay must be on duty or something. Neither with the Newfies. Probably had something to do. Why don’t we try to catch them tomorrow?”

You quickly polish off the chicken between yourselves and recline, massaging your full belly. God that stuff was amazing.

“Well sun’s going down and everyone’s going home.” Alexis says, frowning thoughtfully. “I don’t think we’ll find any more crews and everywhere looks like it’s closing, what do we want to do?”

“Might be a good idea to crash somewhere.” Haley says “I’m sure we can crash at all of our places if you want.”

>Crash at Your Dorm

“My place.” You say finally “We can movies and if you girls even think about facedicks I will rain ungodly fire down upon you.”

Marie snorts and then bursts into the loudest laugh you’ve heard her make.

“Okay, okay. We’re sorry”. She says, breathing deep before starting the laughter again.

“Yeah, shut up.” You say, as you all head out and begin heading back to your dorm.

You filter through the streets as the sun begins to set, and get to your dorm as it hits darkness and the street lights begin to flick on for the night.

You get in the door after a little fiddling with the lock and flop onto the bed. Marie grabs a couple books and pulls up at the foot of the bed to begin reading. Haley and Alexis just sit down, finally relaxing.

You lay there spread-eagled on the bed, staring at the ceiling and feeling really proud of your work today when your pocket starts vibrating. Pulling your phone out, you have a look at it.

“Georgia, please continue the good news?" You say, bracing slightly for the impact.

“Have you put any money into your tanks?” Georgia asks. A little coolly for your liking.

“No.”

“Figures.”

“Okay, tell me what you can.” You say, rubbing your temples. Headache, ugh.

“Well your line-up? It’s not fantastic. Sorry.” Georgia said

“We know. Got any better analysis?”

“Okay I’ll go tank-by-tank. The tetrarch isn’t a bad light tank, but it’s not a hell of a good one either. The 2 pounder sucks, and you need a Little John Adaptor to make it work, and even then its shifty at best. You can use it or you can sell it, there’s points both for and against and we went back and forth on the thing a load of times.”

“Noted. Continue.”

“The D2? Sell it. It’s got a terrible gun and it’s really a pre-war kind of design. Or don’t, because Heavy Tanks are hard to come by and there really isn’t anything better in the heavy department you can use to replace it right now. Alternatively, find some gullible Frenchman who really wants it and stick them in there.” You look over at Haley “They all believe its DeGaulle’s tank so it brings luck anyway.”

“The Mathilda’s not bad, but you’ll need to put a bit of money and work into it. It has a lot of interesting things you can play around with it for, so I’d strongly advise researching and tinkering. Alternatively, you can sell it off. From the looks of things it takes a little bit of money to get rolling to the full potential it has to offer.”

“Oh and the same goes for the valentine. Except it has a higher ceiling. Can mount a better gun as well. Not that we’re conclusive on whether it makes it better overall. Brits did make Mathildas for the entire war, after all.”

“And the Turan?”

“Surprisingly good. I’d say go with that. Limited in its potential, but it’s your best bet right now. Sell it if you think something better comes up, though. Maybe something German, maybe something Russian. We couldn’t decide on which.”
“Okay, thanks Georgia. I’ll keep that in mind.” You say, hanging up.

“What do we do now?” Alexis asks, already in a match of World of Tanks on your game console with Haley.

LET'S READ
>>
>Books

You pick up some comics and begin reading them. Hell, maybe with the comic society on board you’ll be able to read some cool comic books made by people that you know and like.

You read through a bunch of issues eagerly in a row, nibbling on a lock of hair as you read through the book and all the accomplishments of the title character: Captain Canuck.

Your dad always told you not to chew on your hair, but it’s always been a habit when you need to think, and it helps you concentrate, so whats the big fuss?

“Why do you do that?” Marie asks.

“Can’t talk. Reading.”

“No. Answer.” Marie says, leaning over your book and getting heavily into your eyeline.

“Fine.” You say, sighing, and putting the book down before cracking a wide smirk “Do what?”

“The hair thing.” Marie makes a disgusting face, like someone fed her lemons “You do it every time you study, or concentrate. It’s gross”

“Oh relax you prude.” You say, playfully punching Marie in the arm.

“Prude?” Marie says, tickling you square in the ribs “Yeah I’m the prude you weirdo”

“NOMARIENO” You scream in protest.
Soon, the other join in, and your howls of laughter and merriment are heard right on through the night.

>END DAY
>>
Alright thats it for tonight. I'm off to go enjoy the Eagles winning.

Note: given tonight's turnout, I probably won't run when Schteel is running again.

I should be around tomorrow same time to do it all over again.

Good Night, thanks for writing!
>>
>>29162501
Right-o. Thanks for running anyway.

Players are also choked by the limited options for now, which could explain why there's little participation.
But if more choices start opening up soon, we'll probably be back to form of getting stuff done.

You're fine.
