Question.

How many Legionaries would it take to fell a Dragon?
>Dragon is more or less Smaug - Smart and powerful but not a spellcaster
>Legion is attacking a dragon that has been raiding the local province
>Dragon will probably be in its lair - probably a cave or burned out town
>>
If the Dragon is as strong and smart as Smaug, then the problem isn't numbers, because it doesn't matter how many guys you've got. It's all about having the right weapons.
>>
>>29181491

It all depends if they can hit him with their ballerinas. Romans have several types of different sizes for sieges and fortifications.
>>
I'd say about 30. Smaug has one Weakpoint(tm) so I'd say one in 30 dudes is good odds to roll a 20.

If your legions are at least 1st level fighters the might even have taken something to let them fling both those javelins so really good odds with 30.
>>
>>29181577

>It all depends if they can hit him with their ballerinas.
>hit him with their ballerinas.
>ballerinas.

>>
>>29181577
>hit him with their ballerinas

Romans were hardcore.
>>
>>29181577
Exactly. But even then, comparing to Smaug, he required specially crafted bolts to even penetrate his hide.
>>
>>29181491
I don't know about that. there's no way Smaug is taking on a literal billion supplied legionaries.
>>
>>29181633
Thats the movie, book wise his belly was vulnerable until he coated it mostly with diamonds
>>
>>29181633

There's numerous contemporary accounts of romans hitting someone so hard with a onager during a siege that their head isn't found for ten blocks. I think Roman Engineering might just be a match for dragon scale.
>>
>>29181577

>>
>>29181440

>Dragon will probably be in its lair - probably a cave or burned out town.

At this point the Legion just builds a stone wall in front of the only exit to the cave then pumps in smoke till the dragon dies of it.
>>
>>29181649
He just flies up, burns them to ash, then flies away again. Does it at night so they can't see him coming, burns a bunch of them, then flies away before they can organize enough to shoot him down. Goes and finds a place to sleep/eat far enough the Legion can't catch up to him, then repeats.

So long as he varies his attacks enough that they don't know exactly when he'll come, he can basically whittle them down, bit by bit. And then the numbers won't matter, morale is going to break after so many people get roasted to death without ever getting a chance at even attacking the dragon.

>>29181669
True enough.

>>29181672
One can assume, movie verse wise, that Dwarven shit was just as powerful.
>>
>>29181669
Hold up, that means the sigurd method could work. In which case we just need a few hundred legionary's to dig quietly and create the worlds largest punji trap
>>
>>29181633
I think you mean specially crafted dancing shoes.
>>
>>29181577
It depends how many battle ballerinas are in the legion then, obviously.
>>
>>29181741

It wasn't Dwarven Tech. It was some random ballista from some random trading town out in the middle of nowhere.
>>
>>29181669
Look at your dragon. Now back to me. Now back to your dragon. Its belly is now diamonds!
>>
>felling the dragon
>not trapping it and dragging it back to Rome in chains for the plebs' entertainment
>>
>>29181783
It's well known that every legionary carried two ballerinas each. A small, light one to throw, and a heavy one for close quarters if they needed it
>>
>>29181837

Also This. Though I'm unsure exactly how you'd go about strangling a dragon. Maybe steel chains of some sort?
>>
>>29181840
The ballerinas were so flexible that when they impacted in the enemy, they bent meaning they couldn't be thrown back at the Roman legionnaires.

To kill Smaug you need both a magic arrow and advice from a bird on exactly where on its belly to shoot it. I'm guessing Romans are short on both magic weapons and talking bird familiars. And even if they're not, Smaug could just stay on the ground until they're all dead.
>>
Deliver a fatal and precise hit to a vital spot. Best case scenario, just kill it while it sleeps.

Probably the most logical approach - its too big and its potential for destruction is massive; humans are meant to be the creepy things that follow something until its exhausted anyway

No one knows
But every spring, on a night with a full moon, Ballerinas gather in wide open spaces and dance. Sometimes there are only a few who can make it, sometimes scores gather in one place. They dance and spin in the moonlight, weaving in and out of the group with ease the seems at odd with the number of people. It's never been confirmed, but some peasants report that in a gathering of 10 Ballerinas, 15 will leave. The skeptical believe this to be late arrivals, others wonder if Ballerinas are not born of dance
>>
>>29182160

Romans ballerinas could achieve greater stability and accuracy because they would begin pirouetting as they were thrown.

>ballerinas
>delicate
dude, you have no fucking idea. Ballerinas actively develop and encourage calluses on their feet. Ballerinas who dance pointe have "box toes" where their bones have actually been warped by being pressed against the block in the shoe for so long. The average age of retirement for a ballet dance is 27 because the strain on their body accelerates arthritis, joint inflammation, etc and renders them unable to keep up that ability.

I've see ballerinas keep dancing until they were forced to go to the hospital for losing several pints of blood

I saw a ballerina come offstage mid routine once. Costumer went to see what was wrong-turned out the one of the hook and eyes came undone mid dance and the hook found a new home UNDER A RIB, tearing through muscle. They got the hook out and wiped the bit of blood, ballerina puked and went out onstage to finish the dance.

Currently there are 5 known quantum states for a stable ballerina, but some physicists hypothesize a sort of island of stability as the ballerina increases on weight, meaning there may be infinite states of ballerina quantum spin, until eventually the ballerina is either spinning at the speed of the size of the universe or spinning at the frequency of the prime string-membrane
This is all theoretical, though. The highest quantum ballerina state observed as of late was in a Russia. Opera house by miss Helga Borshnotsky

>>
>>29188006
>because the illusion is specifically designed to turn right or left depending on which side of your brain you use most
Urban myth. The image has no such indicators about the brain.
>>
>>29188006

It is incorrectly assumed that it correlates to left/right hemisphere usage in the brain. Really, you need both working together at all times. It has nothing to do with which side of the brain you use, as incorrectly stated in many online "personality tests".

The image has an illusion about perspective. The ass and tits will always be correctly placed, no matter which way it "spins". Look away from the image, and look back after a short time. Perhaps you'll see it at a different "angle" at which point it will begin to spin the opposite direction because with this new angle it's the only way it makes sense.
>>
>>29188006
I googled it and i read articles about it, its bullshit.

>>
>>29188065
>The ass and tits will always be correctly placed, no matter which way it "spins
1. bullshit
2. The ass and tits help you tell what is front and what is back, its the legs that make it clear which way it spins.

The people who think it spins the wrong way are focusing on only one aspect and are incapable of seeing how different parts of the body interact.
>>
>>29188049

The REAL reason a person will see it wrong (not the other way, WRONG) is because they are either retarded, or they are way way way too focused on one part, or they can't handle the high speed at which it is spinning to make out the details.

The reason you percieve that it's going one way is because you are just watching the frames from start to finish, instead of the other way around. if you try it out, you will notice something similar at what other people are describing.

as you can see on frame 3, her breasts, head, and legs can be facing either way. this is what articles about this image explicitly refer to it.
However there are MORE parts to the body than just that.
Her FEET clearly indicate direciton.

Furthermore, while there are a few ambiguous frames, there are many frames which are not at all ambiguous and clearly show her spinning clockwise.

So to summarize
1. A few frames where most but not all of the body is ambiguous
2. Many frames where the spin direction is perfectly clear.

Actually you can even view the frames ambiguously - what you're not getting is that when the rotation "flips" the perspective seems to flip as well, so from a clockwise rotation you see her from slightly above so you're looking down at the top of her feet, but counterclockwise you instead seem to be viewing her from slightly below so it seems like you can see the bottom of her feet.

For added confusion, in the original gif I could distinctly see the girl rotating one way and her shadow/reflection rotating the other AT THE SAME TIME, and they flipped when my "perspective" flipped as well.

This puzzle is unsolvable:
1) To use all the doors in a chamber with an odd number of doors, you must begin or end the line in that room.
2) There are three chambers with an odd number of doors leading from them; the two on the top, and the middle one on the bottom
3) A line only has two ends; this includes the one line you must draw through each door to solve the puzzle.
4) Since you have two line ends but need three, the solution does not exist.

I figured this out shortly after posting my second solution

I'm sorry I was too late to save you, anon. It took me a lot longer to type it out than to think it,

So are you autistic for finding that out or are you autistic for just lazily drawing a small line in every door?

No really, how does this prove autism?

Ahaha, okay I laughed. Am I actually supposed to believe that people are "solving" this, and posting it to the thread to brag - WITHOUT CHECKING IT FIRST?!! It's too much...

>>29191485
It's just a meaningless puzzle. And figuring it is just basic math. Like, 6th grade math that you should probably know in 4th grade.

Implied? Yes.
Stated? No.

The end of my line though, that's implied as going through the last door.
Oh jeez, I think I might be worse then the ballerina guy.

German scientists work it out in record time, have it all set up.

Hitler demands 'minor changes' on a whim, because he thinks it will look better or be scarier or some gobledegook. In so doing, he ruins the entire project, the scientists defect to America, and Svetlana Kropinski, an immigrant Jewish Ballerina, is first human on the moon.

Intelligent dragons on Earth would rule nations and start religions. Until modern artillery came along, humans had no reliable method for killing one.

rules don't prohibit going through the walls right?

That's it. I'm sick of all this "Black Arrow" bullshit that's going on in the Jackson system right now. Ballerinas deserve much better than that. Much, much better than that.
I should know what I'm talking about. I myself commissioned a genuine ballerina in France for 2,400,000 euro (that's about $4,000,000) and have been practicing with it for almost 2 years now. I can even cut slabs of solid dragon with my ballerina.
French teachers spend years working on a single ballerina and fold it up to a million times to produce the finest dancers known to mankind.
Ballerinas are thrice as sharp as Dwarf Arrows and thrice as hard for that matter too. Anything a balck arrow can cut through, a ballerina can cut through better. I'm pretty sure a ballerina could easily bisect a dragon wearing diamonds on its skin with a simple vertical slash.
Ever wonder why medieval Middle Earth never bothered conquering France? That's right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined Baguettes and their ballerinas of destruction. Even in Second Age, Elf soldiers targeted the men with the ballerinas first because their killing power was feared and respected.
So what am I saying? Ballerinas are simply the best sword that the world has ever seen, and thus, require better stats in the Jackson system. Here is the stat block I propose for Ballerinas:
(One-Handed Exotic Weapon)
1d12 Damage
19-20 x4 Crit
+2 to hit and damage
Counts as Masterwork
(Two-Handed Exotic Weapon)
2d10 Damage
17-20 x4 Crit
+5 to hit and damage
Counts as Masterwork
Now that seems a lot more representative of the cutting power of Ballerinas in real life, don't you think?
tl;dr = Ballerinas need to do more damage in Jackson, see my new stat block.

>not commissioning a genuine Italian Ballerina, like they used in the Legion
