You are Reinhold, master swordsman and victor of the Royal Swordsmanship Tournament. The King was so impressed with your skill, he personally requested that you be transferred out of the army and into the Royal Guard! Not bad for an orphan who was raised in a brothel in a poor fishing village.

The only issue at this point is your assignment... you've been charged to be the personal guard of the King's only daughter Marianne. While she is the vision of loveliness that you'd expect from a Princess, her personality is... well... she seems to have some issues.

After sharing a dance with Luciana (that was a bit more risque than you intended), you ran into her mother and baby sister... you can certainly see how they're related to Gregory now.

>Congratulations, you are now a mangy DOG!
>Though dogs are loyal, they're not all that smart...
>The Princess now considers you to be her friend!
>But while dogs are man's best friend, they still don't count as people.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Your Majesty," you say as you do your best bow.

She -is- the Queen, after all. Best to make a good first impression.

"Likewise, Mr..." Lisette says, turning to Luciana.
"Mother, this is Reinhold," Luciana replies. "He's Marianne's bodyguard."
"So the boy who you so fancy and danced so suggestively with is Marianne's bodyguard..." the Queen says with a bemused smile. "Though I have to admit that I wasn't expecting the first boy who you expressed actual interest in past teasing to be a commoner... no offense intended, Reinhold."

Ouch. The truth hurts.

"A- ACTUALLY, Mother, Reinhold here isn't -just- some commoner..." Luciana says as she crosses her arms confidently...

You know where this is going.

No sense in stopping Luciana from saying it, it's not like her mother won't find out eventually anyways... though you do find yourself cringing a bit out of fear that she'll overplay the situation.

"...he's the adopted son of Volker Eschenwald!" Luciana boasts. "And Agnes Eschenwald actually bothered to attend the party -just- to see Reinhold and his sister!"

Well.

While nothing that she just said was untrue, it is kind of embarrassing to be built up as some kind of important guy like this...

"...so you're VOLKER'S..." Lisette gasps as she repositions the squirming baby in her arms. "He was one of Gregory's best friends, you know... but I had no idea that he even had any interest in adopting children..."

Yeah, that would make sense. Volker was friends with Gregory, so of course his sister would have known him as well.

"Just through a stroke of luck," Luciana giggles. "I can assure you that I had no idea of his parentage when he first struck my fancy," she says, shrugging.

>>29185027
Nico: it would take a lot of push to turn her yandere. not impossible but not easy either.
Sylvie: very easy! half way there in my view. she loves Reinhold, he isn't 100% into her. just a bit more and watch the fuse get lit.
Marienna: She's a Tundere, not a Yandere.just not seeing it.
Forgotten Maido: has the under pinnings for Yandere-ness, but lacks the love. but it's possable.
Luci: i can see her being yandere, but again, it would take some pushing to become one. not an easy goal.

Blatant lie, Luciana. You know you can do better than that.

"Oh yeah, and his sister happens to be Marius Lanzmann's wife!" Luciana says.
"...really?" Lisette raises an eyebrow on surprise. "That bubbly girl is your sister?"
"Bubbly?" you repeat. "...heh, I guess she kind of is..." you say with a nervous chuckle. "Yeah, she's my sister.
"I guess that's another point for you, then..." she laughs. "While she seems to be a bit, umm, -excitable-, she's a sweet girl."

"...anyways, I'm going to go and make sure that Elena's not harassing Gregory too much... what about you two? Going to parade around your obvious attraction to each other some more? Maybe make a few mortal enemies in the process?"

>how do you respond?
>>
>>29185527
Technically she only shanked a dude. Takamaru was the one ending the lives. And it was still hardly fault-able. You're playing it off like she was eating babies or something.

Basically this

My attitude and I would guess a lot of other people's attitude is a psuedo-harem mindset.
We're not blind to Arch's comments on the idea, we're simply playing our cards close to our chest.
More data needed before committing to a path, so we sample all we can while we can.
Opinions change and grow, for example maidWHO and that I personally dislike Luci less and less over time(not over the brutality though as Rein is just as brutal in the same circumstance and he's not a hypocrite).
We've also seen how most characters have expressed their emotions towards Rein; hidden, beta; embarrassed etc.

Not really. He's invested in re-establishing his reputation and given that we keep fucking that up for him, and that he's going to take Mari's ex-bodyguard's side in the inevitable conflict, I don't think he's going to be able to do that if he stays close to home. Dude seems the type to cut his loses after awhile.
>>
>>29185999
This whole party has been horrible to be honest.
I'm hoping that arch brings us back home.and leaves Luci in her own kingdom.
>>
>>29185955
I wholeheartedly agree that treating it too much like a VN leads to and has led to unfortunate choices, but sweeping statements like that aren't going to help anyone. If you'll remember, we had maybe a hundred thousand arguments about how anime this quest was since the beginning. People who actively work to spite other players need to stop, and people who are basing their logic on VN could tone it down in my opinion, but I'm sure there are people who have found this quest relatively recently who are contributing and enjoying it.
>>
>>29185970

>>29185999
The main game here is relationship building and socialization so I don't really see your argument.

I mean we can do other stuff but in the end it's all about how we handle our relationships with errybody. Female/male withstanding

>>
>>29186068

>>
>>29186023
I liked the family bonding with Marianne parts and meeting Milien. Those threads were fun.

I'm actually beginning to want to pick Marie for a waifu simply because she's just the most mellow option, player opinion wise. Everyone seems to know how to treat her and most of the waifuers just blend in. She feels the most natural from a meta and IC perspective.
>>
>>29186043
It's pretty much THE plot.
If you're not here for that then why have you read this far?

Though I assume shit will get real and things will go down sooner or later, so there's always that.
>>29186068
We gotta talk about something, and everything else is just shitposting.
>>
>>29186043
Clearly they don't find it believable that someone as young and impovrised as Reinhold (even with the BS family connections) would be considered a valid suitor for any of the girls. Even the mediocre could do better without trying.
>>
>>29186070
So basically you Reinhold not to heal from his traumas? Because if he becomes ascetic and completely denies any romance it'll just be a continuation of his trauma.
>>
>>29185560
What was the girls reactions if w did by accident?
>>
>>29186086
>Though I assume shit will get real and things will go down sooner or later
People who keep assuming this are really annoying to me since they over react to any situation thinking something is gonna happen.
>>
>>29186070
this is not Princess Guard Quest Alternative.
>>
>>29186043
yes, because in quest threads, romantic subplots have a bad habit of turning, for lack of a better phrase, cancerous - and completely devouring plot time, something we're already having issues with.

On that same note: every fucking quest turns into shitty hamfisted romance quest sooner or later, stop trying to force it.

>>
>>29186077
Personally I don't know why I'm still here.
Not meant as an insult, there is something that definitely keeps me here; I'm just unaware of what it actually is.
At the moment I'm fairly resentful towards the fact that we're pretty much the most unnecessary bodyguard in imagination.
>>
>>29186125
>Yeah but at the same time I feel like we're too guided in that direction. I want to stray from the path and not take the obvious, most relevant choice like we normally do.
That's just as dumb as the people who want to pick her for being the true route.
>>
>>29185769
Which tells me she is decisive and knows how shit works. I gladly ship both princess.
>>
>>29185796
Not that anon, but I see Luciana as a "caged bird" archetype. Think Yukiko from Persona 4 if you've played/watched it. She's bound by her obligations as a princess, seeing as she was at one point resigned to the fact that she was going to be married off for political reasons, and that as much as she would want to go off adventuring, she would never abandon her duties. But she was always looking for a way out - for her prince to come and take her away from all the political bullshit she has to deal with.

Enter Reinhold. Now I'm not saying she's just using us to get away from everything - far from it. There's an honest attraction on her part; considering the nobles we've met seen and heard, we're probably the most genuine and nicest person she's ever met. The gallantry and good looks don't hurt either. But I have a feeling that even if it's subconsciously, there's more to it than just love for her.

Or I might be completely off base and should go to sleep.
>>
>>29186109
I'm not worried about it, but it's inevitable that SOMETHING significant will happen, probably multiple happenings actually, to move along the plot in different directions. Whatever those may be is irrelevant, roll with whatever I guess.
>>29186131

>>29186125
>have you been paying attention at all
To the waifu-wars and romance-o'-no arguments? Of course not. I'm just bored waiting for the next post and felt like lobbing a tomatoe or two on both sides of the mix since this brouhaha was already in motion. That a problem?
>>
Let's all just calm down a little bit. Tensions are flaring again, and we don't want a repeat of the great clusfterfuck of the 6th.
>>
>>29186153

No, that makes perfect sense. At the same time, the fact that she's willing to go after what she wants (subconsciously or otherwise) makes me like her more.
>>
>>29186142
More than that is we really haven't developed the relationship with her enough to put all the chips in.

Right now, our best friends are still sylvie and nico, with Citrine as bro tier.

And it's more than not doing the 'true' route, but I don't want to just take the obvious quest title character and be done with it.
>>
>>29186153
Very well said.
>>
Now that I'm thinking about it again, I can't wait for the mortification supernova that is going to come from an eventual in-character realization that one of Reinhold's first subconscious thoughts when going through Luciana-is-attractive warning signs was how she smelled the same as Marianne.

Extra bonus points if at some future point Reinhold ashamedly confesses that thought to Marianne, beginning an infinite embarrassment feedback loop.
>>
>>29186192
>And it's more than not doing the 'true' route, but I don't want to just take the obvious quest title character and be done with it.

That's literally the same thing just on the other spectrum. People want to pick her because she's the obvious, you don't because she's the obvious choice.
>>
>>29186192
This is why i want us to go for Rana,Nico, or Sylvie.

"Actually... if you have time, I know that Princess Marianne was looking forward to meeting Princess Chiara here," you say to the Queen.
"BAA!" Chiara shouts, seemingly reacting as if she was called.
"Oh, she was?" Lisette replies, a bit surprised. "Considering how moody she is, I was thinking that she'd want to stay as far away from Chiara as possible...
"Not at all!" Luciana interjects. "Marianne absolutely ADORES babies!"
"...really?"

"Yeah, she definitely does," you say, unable to keep from smiling a bit as you remember her reaction to the Wilhelms' new baby."
"If you say so, I don't see why not," Lisette says as she adjusts the baby in her arms. "I hope she doesn't decide that the poor girl is an enemy, though..."

Checking on Marianne, she and her father are still talking with... Alberto was it? In any event, it might not be a bad idea to go and tell her that the baby's finally down here.

>>29186241
Sylvie, eh? I'll give it a shot.

First off, as people have noted, we're her first crush. First loves have a tendency to burn really hot. I mean, everyone remembers their first real loves. That is the case for Sylvie, but there's more to it than that. I think one of the main things is is that we make her feel needed.

First, look at the people around her: Vincent, Gregory, Arnaud, Nikolaus, Therri, Nico, Arianne, and even Marianne; they can all pretty much handle themselves. For one reason or another, she can never really help any of them. But us? We asked her to teach us. The handsome young swordsman, who won the tournament and earned the right to be Princess's bodyguard, the same person who beat her best friend, the Captain of the Royal Guard, in a spar. We needed her to teach us magic.

Yes, we had no one else we could really ask to teach us magic at the time, and we barely knew her when we asked. But remember how she went into it with gusto. Vincent even commented on how excited she was to start teaching us what she could.

In a world surrounded by those monsters, we made her feel needed in a way that was completely foreign to her. And for a shy quiet girl like Sylvie, that is probably one hell of a drug.

"I don't want to hold you up, so I'll go and tell the Princess that you're here," you say to thw Queen.
"Very well," Lisette nods. "Come along Luciana, let's go and visit your uncle." she says as she pulls her eldest daughter along with her free hand.
"Eh-" Luciana stammers as she tries (and fails) to shake her mother off. "I'll go along with Mr. Reinhold, we'll meet you over there..."

"Now, now..." Lisette says, smiling at her daughter in a decidedly unfriendly manner. "You don't want to seem too eager... that only serves to scare boys away."

Ignoring her daughter's protests, the Queen forcibly drags Luciana away. ...yeah, you can definitely tell that she and Gregory are siblings.

>tfw when we will crush her spirit once we absolutely turn her down

what are you guys doing? This is not being nice, good, grateful or whatever.

I'm for pursuing Marie myself but the way you are acting, you know that soon even her father will acknowledge us. When that happens we either go for her or break her heart completely. There will be no delaying like with Sylvie, Lucy (her father specifically) simply does not have time.
Also consider that she is Marie's friend If we break her heart, we will also fuck up relationship with Marie.

I for one prefer the route where we simply sit down and enjoy bunnies even being there.

Literally every girl is in that scenario, that's why we should strive to make them all happy, and find their own happiness.

Then Reinhold can sit and watch them live their lives happy whilst he drinks alone and cries at night cuddling his sword.

So you want to lock in the hate instead of the love. Interesting. Well, getting expelled from our region probably opens up some less savory routes, so that could be interesting.

Pushing that little bit of embarrassment to the back of your mind, you let out a long sigh and make your way towards the Princess and her father. After a bit of weaving around people and dodging another attempted groping (fortunately, you actually saw the hand coming this time), you make it to where they're standing...

"...so both Gregory -and- Vincent were pissed at this guy, and it was all I could do to keep them from killing him right there on the spot... Arnaud wasn't any help either, since I could see that he was going his best to keep from doing the same," Thierri sighs. "And just as I was tempted to just bop them both in their heads to make them calm down..."

Seeing you approach, Thierri starts waving his arm excitedly.

"Oh hey, it's Reinhold!" Thierri laughs. "Hey Alberto, this is Marianne's bodyguard!"
"Oh, so -this- is the guy..." Alberto(?) says as he turns to you. "I'm Luciana's brother Alberto, it's nice to meet you."
"Likewise," you say, bowing.

"What brings you over here?" Thierri asks. "Wanted to ask Marianne for a dance?" he laughs.
"I've danced with him -far- more than I'd ever like to, thank you very much," Marianne sighs.

Alright, speaking purely rationally there are three main camps:
Luciana, Marie and Sylvie.
of these three Reinhold seems attracted most to Marie, followed by Luci, and Sylvie has a strong fan following.

Can we all agree that - realistically speaking - it would benefit everyone to eliminate the others from the running? For the sake of us and the individual girls.

it is not as bad as it is for Lucy.
No one will force Sylvie, Nico, Marie etc marry someone who they don't love. Lucy does not have such privilege.

To give some shitty example to show what we are doing:
this is not unlike going to a dungeon, finding a kidnapped prisoner who had been kept as a slave for years. Acting like a knight in shining armor, being nice friendly feeding them etc and the simply leaving them to rot forever.

Sure, MAYBE someone else will come and save them before they die but considering how much time it took for the first one it is very unlikely.

The other girls will cry and move on with their life, pursue other romantic notions later at their own pace. Lucy is going to be married of to someone.

So please, unless we make in character decision to pursue her, stop with this shit.
This also applies to other girls.

I refer to their interactions. They're the most natural and rein and marie are very comfortable with each other.

Look at the pre-party interaction. Both rein and marie are victims of sexual abuse. She was able to react like a normal girl instead of flipping out and Reinhold thought NOTHING of being half-naked infront of her.

I cannot understate how big an indicator that is.

Right now our relationship with Luciana is in the exact same spot it was with Sylvie towards the beginning of the quest. Everyone is on the band wagon right now but it's just a matter of time before TG turns on her like a pack of wild dogs just like they did the young mage.

Reinhold has been the happiest in company of Sylvie and Nico, don't twist it like he came to the princess for any reason other than his job.

It may be different now, but the whole reason he's natural with the princess is because he HAS TO, it's his fucking job. If anything, it's the most forced of the interactions.

"Well, there goes that idea..." you say, snapping your fingers in a dejected manner. "...anyways, I came here to tell the Princess Marianne that the Queen's showed up with her baby and I thought that she might like to see her."

The second you mention the baby, Marianne's face lights up.

"Oh, s- so she's finally here? Well, I guess I should probably greet them at the very least..."
"Just look at her," Thierri laughs as he points to his daughter. "Trying to pretend like she's not excited to play with a real-life baby..."

Okay, look. You're obviously being willfully ignorant at this point. We have actively gone out of our way to address her insecurities and personal problems. Where did I say that?

The point I was making is that Reinhold does a lot more for Marie and saying how that doesn't equate to something leading to romance when three other characters fell for Rein for less is stupid.

This isn't some meant to be shit. This is me telling you that there is no reason why Marie wouldn't be interested in Rein like the other girls based on what Rein has done for them.
>>
>>29187431
And you're willfully ignorant that he's doing that because he's a nice guy. Or rather, /tg/ likes to be nice. Not that that's a bad thing.

The only reason we take special consideration into it is because again, it helps make the job easier, and we are by nature spending most of our time around her, so, also naturally, would have more understanding on her situation.

If we spent more time with Luci, like we were going to until interrupted, i'm sure ray ray would have been his usual good self.

I'm thinking it's just another misarchivist or the Breaker guy just decided this was his thing now. The guy misarchiving Breaker very clearly knew what was going on in the quest and had a personal vendetta.

"You seem to be having more fun at this party than I'd expected," you say to Marianne as you walk.
"And you seem to have had more fun dancing with Luciana than -I- had expected," Marianne bites back. "Though I'm not sure how well her father would have responded had he seen your little performance..." she says with an amused smile.

...you weren't expecting HER to have been keeping tabs on YOU as well...

"...anyways," Marianne sighs, "I can't say that I'm enjoying the -party- itself, but I do appreciate being able to spend some time with my father like this," she says as she looks back at him.
"Yeah, he seems to be enjoying himself there," you reply.
"Yes... those two always got along rather well. Alberto enjoys Father's stories, and Father enjoys having an appreciative audience."

"Prince Alberto seems to be a decent guy," you say to Marianne.
"Yes, he's rather laid back and gets along with pretty much everyone," Marianne replies. "Though he's said countless times that he has no actual interest in the throne, everyone in the royal court is quite relieved that -he- is the crown prince as opposed to one of his siblings."

Considering that Giancarlo seems to be a philandering douchebag and Luciana's description of her older sisters wasn't really flattering either...

"From what little I know of the situation here, I can understand that," you reply.
"Arnaud says that those who actively don't seek power are usually the ones who would do the best job with it," Marianne says, shrugging. "It's the same situation as Father, I suppose... though I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Celestino was the king for another hundred years."

Just how old IS that guy, anyways?

Actually, let me do Marie first, since she's easier, and I need to reread the archives a bit for Nico.

Marie's a bird too - a broken one. Her old bodyguard, fuck if I can remember his name, was one of the few constants in her life. Therri was too busy ruling, her mother was dead, and she had begun to grow distant from Nico and Sylvie. Her only constant companion was that bodyguard; and while she didn't like him, she trusted him. She trusted him enough to keep her safe.

And he broke that trust. Violently. One anon remarked that Arch very realistically and painfully portrayed Marie as an assault victim, and I agree wholeheartedly. The anger, the low self esteem, it's all there.

So Marianne's withdrawn into her own world, which became even littler that it already had been. Her attitude, her emotionless mask - all of it's a defensive mechanism to keep people from getting close. One that was strong enough to alienate her from even some of the closest people around her. And yet we're doing just that - we're invading that little world. When we go out on the town with her, when we honestly show interest in what she's doing, what she enjoys, we begin to see the bits and pieces that she's tried to hide away from the rest of the world. We're getting closer to her despite whatever she wanted. And it terrifies her.

She's terrified to trust people. She believes everyone, except for her father, will eventually hurt her if she trusts them. Her violent outburst after our "accident", a day after finding out just how nice we are is a good indicator for her reaction to that. And she's right actually - it's what people do. Reinhold's just in the process of proving to her that wounds heal - by showing her our scars.
>>
>>29188155
This shit needs like archived or something, it's good
>>
>>29188145
Exactly how strong is Celestino, in terms of magic

Because everyone talks about him as though he is going to live forever. Arch said that the life extending effects of magic aren't *that* significant, so Celestino must be powerful enough to tear continents asunder.

Or he's a vampire
>>
>>29188154
Yes, his betrothal was decided before Marianne was even born.
Celestino kind of regrets it, since Marianne would most likely actually go for Alberto were he still a bachelor.
But as it is, he's a family friend and she doesn't see him that way.
>>
>>29188155
You forgot the part about how she reacted to our past and how she thinks(know) that we had it worse than her, which causes her to feel guilty and feel like she would be taking advantage of our kindness.

Passing into Nebraska through Wyoming is still one of the most surreal experiences of my life. It's all huge sheer cliff faces and winding roads and then suddenly out of nowhere it's Nebraska and there's NOTHING.

I'm a little curious what being "lazier" entails when it comes to this system of magic. Is it about not keeping up with draining/refilling your reserves in order to increase them, winging it when it comes to the "directing intent" when casting, not going out of your way to try and gain new knowledge, or some arbitrary combination of those?

Could it be that Celestino is so focused on maintaining his seat of power that his singleminded focus on magical training is actually all in pursuit of a soul ascension so he can stay king forever?

As you get closer to where the others are, the faint smile on Marianne's face grows wider and wider...

"Remember when we get to the baby," you turn to her. "Blocking is important, but footwork is IMPERATIVE," you say, giving a thumbs-up.
"...thanks for the concern," Marianne replies, rolling her eyes. "In the event that she -does- attack me, I expect you to step in and take the hit for me like a good bodyguard should."
"Very well, Princess," you say with a slight bow.

Your goofy banter done with, it's not long before you make it to Sir Gregory's table.

He's sitting down while holding the decidedly less angry Chiara as he talks to his sister...

Elena is jumping up and down excitedly while listening to Agnes...

Nicolette and Melanie are sitting at an adjacent table, laughing about something...

...all while Luciana, Takamaru and Andreas watch everyone else do their thing. And naturally, they're the ones who see the two of you coming.

"Back to the cool table, eh?" Andreas says, waving you over. "It's also nice seeing you again, Princess."
"Likewise, Sir Andreas," Marianne replies.

>I'm a little curious what being "lazier" entails when it comes to this system of magic.
In Ariane's case, I meant that she doesn't bother with trining or any of that stuff, instead spending most of her time cooking or playing with the kids or other wifely duties. The last time she did anything resembling actual practice in that area was the day that her father decided to finally settle down in Granache after a lifetime of adventuring.
Most of her magic use these days is basic "make my daily life easier" stuff or the spells she teaches Bernard. (Sylvie helps sometimes too)

>Could it be that Celestino is so focused on maintaining his seat of power that his singleminded focus on magical training is actually all in pursuit of a soul ascension so he can stay king forever?
Part of it is out of guilt for what happened back in the day, part of it is out of a basic desire for self-improvement.
Celestino actually hates being King even more than Thierri does, but his ideals of how things SHOULD be are too strong for him to rest until he's certain that he won't be needed anymore.

Marianne's looking at the baby longingly... you can just tell that she'd love nothing more than to snatch Chiara from Sir Gregory's lap and start playing with her right here and now. Best to get this over with before the anxiety kills her.

"Um, Sir Gregory?" you call out.
"Hm? Oh, you brought Marianne," Sir Gregory replies.
"...mind introducing her to the little Princess there?" you ask.
"Heh..." Sir Gregory says, smiling evilly as he looks at Marianne's eager face. "This little cutie is my littlest niece, Chiara. Say hi to the other Princess, Chiara!" he says as he makes the baby wave at her.
"BASSGHGHGSHGLAAAAAA" Chiara shouts. Maybe that's her way of saying "hi?"

"This is Marianne, she's your big sister's best friend!" Sir Gregory says, poking Chiara on the nose. "And most people find her even harder to deal with than you, isn't that funny?" he laughs as he tickles the baby's stomach.
"C'mon, Gregory..." Lisette sighs.

Ignoring Sir Gregory's comment, Marianne walks up to them and gets on eye level with the baby.

"Hello, Chiara!" Marianne says, her voice a lot higher-pitched than usual. "I'm Marianne!"
"Mmmmm..." Chiara says, puffing her cheeks out.

And then.

"THPBPTPBTPTPPPPP"

Chiara spits ALL OVER MARIANNE'S FACE.

"Chiara!" Luciana shouts as she races towards them and pops the baby on her hand. "I thought I told you to stop doing that!"

Pulling her hand back from the pain, Chiara glares at her big sister...

"BAAAA!" she shouts as she does her best to jump out of Sir Gregory's lap and punch her sister in revenge.
"C'mon now, that's enough of that," Sir Gregory says, patting the baby on the head. "...and here, Marianne. Looks like you need it," he says as he hands her a handkerchief with which to wipe the baby spit off of her face.
"...thank you," Marianne replies a she takes it from him and begins drying her face.

Yeah. Those classes and the time they take up probably have an affect on why she is the way she is now.

And now for Nico, who is clearly a girl under a lot of pressure. Just look at who her parents are. Gregory? One of the greatest knights of the kingdom. Ariane? One of the strongest mages around. And her? She's the CAPTAIN of the Royal Guard. At what? 16? The girl is constantly living in the shadow of her parent's and probably having to constantly prove that she earned her rank at a job usually reserved for males, rather than having it bequeathed to her because of her lineage. It explains why she doesn't want anyone to know that Gregory is her father. She wants people to judge her for her own merits, before the inevitable comparisons to her dad.

Which is a major reason why it's no surprise that she began to take an interest in Reinhold. I don't think he's even once compared the two of them. As such, being around Reinhold is a huge relief for her. There's no pressure - hell, she's comfortable enough with him now, that she can show him her girly habits, like her interest in jewelry. In the end, she can be herself without any fears of being comparisons being made. If I was a betting man, I'd say he's one of a few people without prior knowledge not to compare them. Coincidentally, a certain meido doesn't seem the sort to do that either....

Honestly, I'm probably not even scratching the surface, but I'm tired, and need sleep.

Before you can even react, Marianne's met Chiara's hand with her own.

We're her everyday guard. 98% of the time, we should have a chance of handling an assassination: the Luciana kidnap attempt might be at the high end of normal assassinations.

The important bit, of course, was to socialise Marianne. Maybe give her some cootie vaccination so that she doesn't hate boys (or people in general) for the rest of her life.

I wouldn't be surprised if one day we find out that Thierri was adviced by someone mystic or crafty to pick us as her bodyguard. Or that that same person (be it legendary mage, elemental in disguise or dragon) was also part of our backstory.

This would be pretty interesting as well, but it's a little more Reinhold-centric than the other options, and we could easily ask him if he would mind telling us a bit more about their antics during the carriage ride back (unless it's unreasonable to split the party in a way that would be conducive to that.)

"Is she able to walk yet?" Marianne asks, turning to the Queen.
"A bit," Lisette replies. "Mostly she falls over, and that dress she's wearing throws off her balance so badly that there's no point in even trying."
"That's probably why she's so mad today," Luciana says, rolling her eyes. "I have no idea why you decided to put her in that thing, Mother."
"What, it's cute!" Lisette says, shrugging. "And it's not like I'd ever put her down here, she'd probably end up running off right away and one of the jerks that your father invited here would try and kidnap her or something."

So even the Queen shares your opinion of the guests here at the party...

...and you suddenly find yourself with a baby in your face.

"Whoa!" you shout as you back away.
"Look, Chiara!" Marianne laughs. "He's afraid of you!"

"Well she's clearly a pretty threatening baby," you reply with a chuckle.

"No you're not," Marianne says as she pokes Chiara in the belly. "You're a good girl, aren't you!"
"blyrayyyyryeeyaa" Chiara gurgles happily.
"At least she's good with someone aside from me," Lisette sighs. "Must be because you two are so similar in temperament," she says, punching her brother in the arm.
"Now that's just mean," Sir Gregory replies.
"Yes, I'm nowhere near as annoying as your brother," Marianne says.

Deciding to make a retreat from this situation before it gets ugly, you focus your attention elsewhere. Thierri and Alberto are still talking... you can see Rana chatting with what looks like the top of Sylvie's head over by the food... Reya's arguing with a nobleman... and Monique's back. Great.

While you don't see Citrine, Marius or Celestino anywhere, they're most likely putting the final touches on the presentation of Marius's painting. Probably.

You then head over to Agnes and Elena... the latter looks VERY excited.

"...weren't you scared!?" Elena asks.
"Oh no, I was quite confident in my ability to win," Agnes laughs. "And it's not like I needed to worry about my safety, you know..."

Ah, stories about her dueling days.

"So I got all the way to the finals of that particular tournament, but I lost to my opponent there... this was by -points-, mind. Even though I had the clear advantage during the entire match... I never was too fond of that system of judging."
"Aww, that sucks," Elena mumbles as she kicks the ground dejectedly... and then sees you approaching.

>>
>>29190466

Or elena drops by to visit granny often.

Based on how celestino reactes in that story, he'd probably not want to interfer tpo much.
>>
>>29190323
"Something just clicked in my mind, that the two of you would take a liking to each other."
>>
"Heh, I KNEW you'd like her," you reply, smiling.
"Yeah she's like SO COOL OH MY GOD and she says that I can visit her but Nicolette said that I should probably keep it a secret because papa would get mad" she says in one breath before finally gasping for air. "But she's a swordie and she's a girl and a girl and I wanna be like her sooooooooooooooooooooooo bad!"

This is adorable and all, but you can't help but feel a bit afraid for your own safety. After all, if Celestino finds out that you facilitated his daughter's hobby, there's no doubt that he'd be more than a bit displeased...

"Who were you talking about, by the way?" you ask, turning to Agnes.
"Oh, just giving the Princess here a story about my dueling days," Agnes replies. "I would have won that entire tournament if they hadn't used that stupid point-based scoring system... the dumbasses," she mutters under her breath.

>[1/?]
>>
>>29190564
>[2/2]

"How'd they do it in the tournament that you won, Reinhold?" your grandmother asks.
"Duel to submission," you reply. "Usually only took a few minutes to win a match at the most, but there were some guys who were especially stubborn," you shrug.
"Yeah, I like that way better. Wins and losses are clear, and you'll wind up hurt pretty badly if you get cocky and try to game the system," she nods.

"Umm..." Elena says, her eyes sparkling. "Didja have to cut anyone's arms off to force a win?" she asks. "Andreas said that he almost had to do that once..."
"Not in the tournament, no," you reply.

Oops. Might have said too much there.

"Removing limbs is a bit excessive, Elena," Agnes says, patting the little princess on her head. "Cutting a tendon in their hand works just as well, and it's nowhere near as, er... messy."
"Er, I dunno if talk of maiming people is the most appropriate thing to be talking about..." you say with a nervous laugh.

Her mother -is- here, after all. Don't want to get anyone in trouble.
