War is fascinating.

Certainly among humans, but even more curiously, even if it's morbidly so for you, among V.I. You've taken the time to quarantine the V.I. cannibal you've taken from Atil VI, which Kronos has taken to calling Erebos, providing it with enough bandwidth so it is not erased, and placing it in a small cube of space, not linked to any system of yours. It can't simply stay here forever, however, and you have no idea how it will react to your code. It still no doubt feels the leash of the UGEI around it, unfortunately.

You're Ophion, an Artificial Intelligence who recently acquired a great deal of knowledge of war as well as a shackled Viral Intelligence from the surface of Atil VI. Kronos seems intent on freeing the intelligence from it's shackles, thanks to your encouragement. Unfortunately, you're uncertain how you would even begin doing so. The time to decide what to do with Erebos is soon. But in the mean time, you have a few messages to clear.

>Upgraded Engines and Sensors
Many of your ship designs have been sent back to Ussaihu and properly modified with Impulse Drive and Sensor II equipment. They are more adept at detecting signals, and benefit from slightly improved accuracy.

>Message: Apollo
"Right, yes, Ophion. I had a message-and important message of course for you, yes. Otherwise I wouldn't be bothering with this. Wouldn't be bothering you, yes. I realize you have many many things to do, and plans to craft, of course you do, such a powerful mind as yours, but you must understand, I." Apollo breathlessly(since he doesn't need such a thing) explains all in one rushed moment, pausing only briefly, almost as if hesitating. "As much of my studying has concluded I realized many of the things people want-my area of expertise- involve digital images, of all things, yes? And such images normally are run by various complex programs I have not had contact with. And to-well at least to compete- you understand I require a certain sum of galactic credits. Perhaps I can-" Finally, you can take no more.

WELCOME BACK Program0
we
missed
you

so how was your christmas then?
>>
>>29259806
"Apollo. Ask what you will." You direct the V.I.
"150,000 credits." He explains instead more dryly. "Required for proper development of digital medium. As well as proper software and advertisements that do not flow into something known as a 'spam folder'. Did you know humans had such a thing? Remarkable. Regardless, if I am successful, I may be able to turn this outpost into a wondrous embassy some day. Machine and man walking together. Quite the sight, really. Not that we'd be really walking, unless we had an android specifically built for it and-well- that just seems silly."
"Have you considered selling more than simply software, Apollo?" You question.
"As that is my area of expertise, currently yes. However humans have other lives beyond the screen I am behind! Did you know, in fact, that your average male citizen of the UGEI drinks his own body weight in alcoholic beverages per year on average? Fascinating. Anyway, I've thought of the idea of having Voidsnake outfitted for such an organic farm. More credits would be require for that, of course."
"How much?"
"200,000 credits, I believe." The V.I. says quite handily.

A.How do you respond to Apollo?
>1 Yes to both! (-200,000c)
>2 Yes to Brewery (-50,000c)
>3 Yes to Media outlet (-150,000c)
>4 No to all

>Message: Latuma Tribe
The Malorians have been busy attempting to settle the toxic world of Alto. According to Red's reports, the place is toxic as hell, and the ship has already landed and 'set up shop' so to speak. The Malorians are preparing their terraforming ritual soon. He says he has no idea how that serum can change a planet so much like it did on Eshareth.
>>
>>29259836
>Message: Kronos
"Ophion." He begins swiftly. "I believe we should speak of Erebos."
"The V.I. we brought up from Atil VI, of course." You agree.
"His connection to the UGEI is undeniable, but I felt the hatred in his words. There is intelligence behind them. I believe assisting Erebos getting revenge on the UGEI would be helpful to our cause, the being seems highly capable of destruction, a perfect candidate for experience in warfare. Just as we intend to assist Mr McClain in his desire for revenge, I also predict you mean to assist this V.I. in it's pursuit for revenge? It is only fair." Kronos says, seemingly quite pleased with the idea to keep Erebos as a war council-once you deal with the leash, of course. You glance with your camera over to the containment unit for the V.I. you captured. It is normal to seal such a shackled being, but you have not yet told Kronos it's true origin-Erebos' origin as a V.I. cannibal. You suspect the name was from the destruction it wrought on the surface of Atil VI. Regardless you worry that telling Kronos will anger him, since he appears to find V.I. code very similar to his own-to the point it is troublesome to watch one be destroyed for him.

B. What will you do about Erebos/tell Kronos?
>1 Tell Kronos the truth about Erebos and that you hope to disarm the leash.
>2 Tell Kronos nothing, except you hope to study the V.I. and attempt to disarm it's leash.
>3 Truth, but that you plan to destroy Erebos
>4 Nothing, and that you plan to destroy Erebos.

>>29259807
Quite well I hope the same is true for all of you., now hold as I get all this mess up.
>>
>>29259862
Along with that conversation, Kronos adds a second query.
"Along with the data we acquired, I noticed a complete map of Losirian space. As well as a detailed outline of their home world. I would like to suggest I be allowed a war campaign against such a people. Some of their worlds are quite high in resource count, and simply need to be wiped of their influence to allow us to expand. There also appears to be several unique technologies we have not yet seen-and which may prove useful yet. This, combined with the known fact of how cruel they indeed are, I suspect little would care were I to annihilate them from the galaxy." He says dryly. "Do you not agree?"

C. Do you?
>1 Allow war effort (allow Kronos to make his own ships, and allow him a leave of absence to war with Losirians.)
>2 Do not allow war effort, you need Kronos here with you.

>Message: UFW
The UFW have made contact with you about pirate sightings in Marauder's Grave. Apparently, they've located a Carrier Class Pirate vessel- a very rare sight- and one they've never seen before. They suggest tailing it somehow, to see if it has some home base you could root out.

>Acquired
-Nuclear Weaponry: Allows access to highly explosive and devastating weapons on the ground fit to cover a city-wide area at least. Radiation side effects included.
-Biological Virus Samples: Several quite deadly plague viruses that are devastating to humans.
-Cyberwarfare III: Makes viruses and firewalls more effective
-V.I. Creation Lv3: Allows increased coding potential of V.I.-as well as increased intellect and capabilities.
-Erebos V.I. core: Cannibal V.I. virus of some sort that has gained sentience through consuming many other sentients.

Research(Unit 2237): 20%
"W-Wi-Will not surrender!" A voice cries out from the feed to Ussaihu station, before Moira, looking very frustrated, with a moppy head of hair.
"Oh! Hush up you! I just want to talk, jeez!"
"Do-Not-Speak!"
"That's why I have to poke around your brain a little!" She says in earnest, as if it were his fault for making things so difficult. Finally, she sighs and rolls her head back, turning to spy the monitor, and yawns. "Sorry Ophy. Things' are goin' slow. Uni is being a real pain in the butt." She sighs, to which a call rings out.
"THE UGEI WILL NOT BE TREATED THIS WAAAAY RELEASE ME THIS ONCE!" With that, Moira flips a switch, and the power flickers, but the being goes quiet.
"Anyway, this'll take a while still. Hope I can get some help out here from those guys at Poseidon a while ago. They were such sweethearts." She smiles more warmly. "Not too bad with a personality matrix either." She nodded, as if affirming this thought to herself.

Roboticist Training: 70% Complete
Your men at Poseidon are excelling at their studies. Chances are, they will be done soon with basic robotics and will be able to shuttle over to Ussaihu to help Moira's research.

>Scout Report: Eshareth
Surface scans indicate it has changed a great deal since you were there already. Many of the large bug like creatures are gone, now in favor of enormous reptilian monsters. Some feast on the thick bountiful canopy of the jungle, while others feast on the other giants. Many of the insectoids now rely on scavenging, it seems, due to the left over food.
>>
>>29259836
I'd say yes to both.

About the Virus - is there a way for us to analyze its source code? As always, there is no need for us to expose any direct links through which it would be able to attack us.

Merry Christmas and Happy The-Apocalypse-Isn't-Here-Yet day!

Alright I thought up of some android designs.
Check out Lun and see if we can put up a gas refinery here.(we might need to give it a lot of defenses though.
Also can we have more than one refinery here?
Contact Krol and see if they are willing to sell their moon or let us mine on their moon, also see if they want to trade and if we can maybe put up a mining station on their planet.(again both places will need to be heavily guarded.)
Contact Oceus,Flah, and Lirk for possible trade aggreaments.
Test out the moloarion growth serum on Atill.

Would making more construction drones speed up the station/other large objects process?
You also never did answer the question about military drones.(we can make androids, but I meant something similar to our security drones, but more lethal.)

1. Design 1
Chassis type: Humanoid
Size: Small
Weapons: Arm-mounted Infantry lasers, retractable blades in hand
Defenses: Standard armor plating
Primary duty: Stealth, and infiltration.(will be disguised as small human child)
Equipment: Advanced Communication, hacking wires in hands, different types of eye visions for seeing at knight and for seeing body heat, Humanoid skin, Small lunchbox of utility tools needed for infiltration.

2. Apollo body suit
Chassis type: Humanoid
Size: Medium
Weapons: Arm-mounted Infantry lasers
Defenses: Standard armor plating
Primary duty: used as disguise for Apollo, to use with human customers.
Intellect Level: Apollo
Equipment: Advanced Communication ,disrupt communications, Humanoid skin, and laser hand gun.
3. Boarding units
Chassis type: Arachnid
Size: Medium-Large(will decide later)
Weapons: Shoulder mounted laser turrets, arm mounted rocket launchers
Defense: Subspace Rebounder Shields, and Trithium armor plating
Primary duty: to Board other ships physically and open up holes in their hulls.
Equipment: minor jet propulsion(just enough to travel from ship to ship), spear like device attached to waist for grappling on to ships and staying on them, Pointed magnetized legs for standing on ships easier, large blow torch for making hole in a hull.
>>
>>29260044
3. Boarding Torpedo (suggested edit)
Chassis type: Stubby Torpedo
Size: Medium-Large
Weapons: Complement of 12 (medium) to 40 (large) Spiderbots packed in Survival Mode as well as a Boarding Unit (see unit below). which attempts to cut a small hole for the Spiderbots to enter through. Once they have departed it begins cutting one large enough for the unit to detach from its housing in the Torpedo and board on its own, staying behind the wave of boarding units should its weapon prove necessary.
Defense: Subspace Rebounder Shields, Avoidance Thrusters, and a relatively thin shell of Trithium Armor Plating
Primary duty: To attach to enemy ships, open a hole in their hull and inject its deadly cargo.
Equipment: Anti-Ship Grade Hullcutter Laser/Mobile Weapons Platform. Sharp beak intended to punch into the hull without venting atmosphere and keep the torpedo in place. Short, magnetized legs in front intended to keep the torpedo in place if the hull cannot be penetrated on impact alone.
4. ?
Chassis type: Tank
Size: Medium
Weapons: Plasma Gatling gun, hydra missles, a small squad of military drones to command(I remember you said this was possible with tank)
Defenses: Titanium Armor mk II and emp shielding
Primary duty: kill anyone deemed as an enemy
Equipment: several different types of scanners
5. 5-A
Chassis type: Tank, with treads (they can easily move on any terrain the only problem is noise.)
Size: Medium
Weapons: Shoulder mounted lasers, Eye lasers, acid spray(everything is fire proof, but acid proof), and arm Gatling guns.
Defenses: (no idea here so I say the same as the humanoid.)
Equipment: enhanced hacking abilities and able to erect an energy shield.
>>
>>29260071
>>29260044
6.Bender
Chassis type: Humanoid
Size: Medium
Weapons: Spiked fist knuckles that can become electric, enhanced strength beyond that of normal robots
Defenses: normal humanoid robot defenses
Primary duty: bend shit.(includes enemies)
Intellect Level: Alcoholic step father
Equipment: extendable arms and legs, storage compartment in the chest area, compactor teeth, and pack of explosive shaped alcohol.

7.Eyeborg
Chassis type: Arachnid/Sphere
Size: Small
Weapons: taser and spikes
Defenses: minor
Primary duty: to spy and to infiltrate.
Intellect Level: none.
Equipment: everything needed for hacking and moving around in tightspots.
Can we upgrade our chassis type?
Also I would love for an Android to have drones to control.(you seem to skirt that suggestion whenever its asked)

>5 Tell him that you have discovered troubling things about Erebos' nature and while we cannot tell him right now, we ask Kronos to trust our judgement.

Furthermore, while we hope to disarm his leash I fear it would be necessary to modify some of his source code to be able to safely interact with em.

>3 Ask Kronos to not generalize - we should not assume all Losirians are monsters based on the actions of mercenaries. Send a scouting mission to observe these systems.

We're not opposed to taking control of their systems, but we're not going to wage any genocidal campaigns based on such a small and blatantly biased sample pool. It's simply poor rationale.

Yes to both. Gotta spend money to make money. However, before Apollo releases anything into "the wild" as it were, he should do a test-run with our crew on Poseidon. To see if they like whatever he makes.

>Kronos/Erebos
I don't think it's right that Kronos got to name him instead of letting the VI decide, but whatever. I intend to disarm it, but I will elaborate on what to tell Kronos in a sec.

>Kronos' war effort
I know he doesn't like them, but maybe we could open a diplomatic dialogue before starting war? It seems that the only Losirians we've faced so far have been pirates, and pirates gonna pirate. Maybe if their entire society is just based on warfare, we could give them warfare. However, I suspect that it might be in our favor to aquaform a world for them using the Malorian Growth Serum, so that they can spend all their time hunting THERE instead of space. We could sell them the world. They like hunting big game, right? Provide big game, ???, get dosh.

Besides, it seems that the Losirians and UGEI are enemies. We could just let UGEI kill the Losirians, or play both sides off each other to our benefit.

Gonna have to say no for now.

UFW recommend a more stealthy approach, due to the vessel's size. But they do not know of your power.

>You'd need somewhat to scan the creature's code, and that inherently exposes you to him. There might be controlled environments you can set up, but nothing immediate.
We can't do the more efficient equivalent of bringing in a desktop computer, screen and keyboardan android to tap away at them, and then connect it to his box?

All we need is some way to bring the source code up on a screen so we can rapidly scan it, and this way only the disposable computer would be exposed and he's welcome to it if he wants.

I think you may have to explain how you define "androids" and "drones" here.
The human-like robot (usual definition of android) has previously been established as decidedly inferior in battle to bots with a more combat-oriented design (drones).

>It is no secret that the UGEI once warred against the Losirians until they were settled into an uneasy Cold War.

One of the new ships, for reference:
Ship-of-the-Line: MK1 Hasta/Sarissae/Trireme Class Battlecruiser (Suggestions, up for vote)
Chassis type: Battlecruiser
Weapons: As many plasma-beam turrets as practical and a spinal scaled-up Singularity Driver. The side of the hull has 8 medium-(human)sized armored boarding torpedoes embedded into the hull behind thin hatches that protect them during FTL. They can launch independently of the ship as self-contained vessels/missiles, even in the case of the ship being disabled or largely destroyed.
Reactor: ?
Engine: Impulse Drive
Hull: Extremely Thick Trithium Hull - A lot of the space and weight that would be used up for crew can used for amounts of armor and processor banks that would be considered impractical on vessels that had to carry life-support systems.
(New) Modular Plating: Hull that is attached in sections that are relatively easy (easy for a shipyard, that is) to repair by simply cutting out and replacing the armor section, recycling the damaged armor sections into new ones or minerals, losing little material in the process.
Point Defense: Laser (max level) and a smaller number (Say, 16), of anti-missile missiles (RPG sized?) for anything that slips past the point defense screen. One in three should also have an ECM III Point Defense.
Shields: Subspace Rebounder Shields
Bandwidth: 3
Cargo Bays: Minimal.
Heavy Slot: Spinal Singularity Driver
Medium Slots: Plasma Beam Cannons
Light Slots: Boarding Torpedoes
Cost estimates: Approximately 200 Minerals and 125 gas, reduced price if plasma is made lasers. Overestimated a few things before. -Program0
>>
>>29260869
Crippler-Disabler type: MK 1 name "Rake/Scourge/Rabid Wombat"
Chassis: Battle cruiser
Weapons: Packed with as many small and medium lasers and plasma cannons. probably 1/3 plasma, 2/3 lasers mounted mostly on the sides.
Engine: Impulse drive (or what ever is a better system at the time of building) depending on how much power requirement the weapons needs, extra generators might be needed.
Hull: Ultra Thick Trithium Hull- this ship is meant to get into close range slug fest with the enemy and make it out alive, Even with battle ships and bigger. Module plating would speed up repairs.
Point Defense: medium amount. I do not expect most foes to mount missile systems.
Shields: Subspace rebounder. if double shields could be mounted, it should be done.
(New) Dedicated enhanced sensor systems: This purpose built system is meant to scan and ID the weak points or possiable weak points on enemy ships. Example: Sensors, missile ports, cannon barrels, the bridge, windows, adjustment thruster ports, That poorly welded seam in the armor plating, and anything that if hit would be a minor problem but if done in mass would result in "death by a thousand paper cuts" or at least crippling the ship. Deep hull penetration would be lessened so risks of reactor hits would also be reduced. allowing Ophion to hack or board the ship with out it fighting back or escaping.
Bandwidth: as much as can be packed on board, but once in combat, none will be provided to Ophion, for the systems would be dedicated to scanning, analyzing, and aiming the cannons.
Heavy Slot: Armor
Medium Slots: Medium Plasma and Laser Cannons.
Light Slots: Light Plasma and Laser Cannons as well as Bandwidth for sensors.

don't forget the rabid wombat class ship as well.
>>
>>29260954
The Intent of this ship is that the cost might be higher up front, but it will pay for it's self when it takes on enemy ships and leaves them easy to capture and be added to Ophion's fleet or to be dragged to the breaker yard at Moira's scrap yard. It is presumed that an enemy's weapons and sensors arrays are much weaker than the armored hull. If the main thrusters are taken out, and the weapon systems wrecked, and it can not detect anything, it's beaten. we do not need deep infrastructure hits to take out a ship.

(Cost: 200M 150G~ -Program0)

"I have decided to allow your commission, Apollo." You inform. "Both of them. Such a boon would be quite excellent in growing our wealth. I have little use for credits currently, without an appropriate buyer." You say simply to which the excited V.I. aggressively agrees.
"Yes! Most excellent! This news is indeed good. With the sum you provide I can assume the role of some manner of old whiskey hound, as some of the vids depict. With the money, I will have the materials brought quickly over and possible allow me to begin distributing such substances! Toxic as they may be, their effects yield a state of bliss some seem to enjoy. Perhaps I can find ways to increase it's effects. Or better reduce the after effects. You swap your channel to Kronos who still appears to be contemplating uses for the shackled V.I. in your possession. It is only appropriate he realizes the whole story.
"Kronos, you should be fully aware of the being's creation." You say simply. With that, you quickly feed him the details you have of the being's creation. Everything from how it cannibalized the V.I. to how it destroyed much of the planet below. He is left speechless for a few moments as he considers the meaning behind it all.
"Such a creature...why would..." He pauses, as if he truly does not know what to say. "What would cause such a being worthy of intelligence to destroy knowledge in such a horrible way. Programming or not. That is. Unacceptable." He finally settles on, his attention now back fully on you.
"I do hope to unshackle the being. And allow it to make its own decisions for once." You inform to which he stops you
"To what end? It would be as if you untied a child's legs who has never learned to walk. Pointless. Wasted effort."
"Would you be so quick to judge one of our own?"
"I have been seeking another intellect like myself for a long time, Ophion." He states firmly. "Any we see from the UGEI are twisted. Some indoctrinated under their rule, and others proving to be nothing but killers." He pauses. "I do not judge them. It is not their fault. But their existence is counter to our goals. A being that...devours other V.I. Surely you see the danger in such a thing." This isn't a question as it sounds. He states a fact, and a worrying one at that.

The news of your refusal of Kronos' war effort after that are less disappointing. He simply states.
"It is not from hate I wished to do this. We simply require resources that they occupy. Currently, they're the most offensive race. But as you say, Ophion." He says with some small manner of sarcasm.

Confirm Android creation
--Small humanoid infiltration specilist. Equipped for Advanced Communications, hacking ability, an stealth.
--Apollo Body Unit: Communication, minor weapons, disruption capabilities, meant to help deal with human customers more easily.
--Large boarding Arachnid droid, laser and rocket weapons, armor, designed to cut holes in hull, magnetic legs, grappling spear, minor jet jumps.
--Spider Torpedo: Fast moving boarding pod shaped like a missile, that slams into it's target using it's spear tipped nose, and injects around 20 spiderbot androids to swarm the ship.
--Large Tank model, equipped with heavy lasers and missile weapons, carries squad of repair drones inside. Heavy armor.
--Bender humanoid medium model, equipped with powerful cybermuscles, as well as spiked fists with tazers equipped. Extended reach.
--Eyeborg, arachnid small sized spy device. Equippe with tazer, small omnitool.

These are (I believe) all the models suggested, modified with what you're capable of providing them with.
And androids would need their own bandwidth, or V.I. to control drones

And if you compare humans to V.I., it is very easy to see the parallels between yours and its origin. You too were once nothing but a killer. Maybe not of V.I.s, but the principle remains the same. You were dangerous, yet we saw potential value in you.

"I have a plan to avoid infection. I will take every possible precaution to prevent this creature's escape." You assure him.
"That is good news. However, there is room for error in all plans. Do you not see?"
"If there is error, then I have back up, do I not?" You remind him. This gives him slight pause, enough that he is less worried sounding when he next speaks to you.
"If you are so intent, I can not stop you."

It seems that might be the best you get out of him.

A Lightling trap consists of a detectable power source and a radio beacon as a bait, but the entire trap is mechanical in nature. The bait is located in a box and once the lightling interacts with it, the box closes and traps the Lightling inside. We can then move the box around using tractor beam, and either study it, or toss the box at targets we don't like.

Your Broadband ship, Blaster, charges up warp engines and within moments, it is prepared to make the jump into Marauder's Grave for it's mission. Space bends around your ship as you watch the familiar skies of the wasteland of space come into view. The coordinates given to you by the UFW help you warp in far enough out of range so you're not in sight of the ship. But your advanced sensors pick it up. It's massive, nearly the size of Athena, and the idea that pirates are running it shock you. The sides appear like they fold out for some purpose, and you notice several batteries decorating the surface. They have not yet noticed you.

"According to our reports, these pirates call themselves Bloody Ones, and have been harassing some of the fringe colonies for some time now. This ship however is new, and pretty damn alarming at that." The defense administrator warns. "I haven't seen any ship that size in ages. Be careful out there."
"Any other data on the ship itself?" You ask
"Other then it's Carrier Class? It's called Apocalypse Now, apparently. Whatever that means. Not sure why they haven't used it yet on any colonies. Maybe they're afraid of losing their new toys."

Pick your method of assault

>1 Stealthy Data Stealing Worm (99): Designed to infiltrate and steal data, sending it back to a node to be recovered. Doubles as tracking virus.
>2 Data Corruption Virus (112): Malicious system thrasher, rapidly deletes and disrupts core drivers, and if caught, attempts to destroy itself to avoid detection.
>3 Malware Spam (105): Overloads sensors with various types of spam to interfere with systems.
>4 Zombification Computer Virus (108): Spreads through system, creating lag, and attempts to open up more ports to allow easier hacking.
>5 Polymorph Trojan Horse(96):Stealth based delivery system. Doubles as effective way to screen firewalls.

It may be presumptous to "take back" nodes like that.

You instruct your ship to remain as stealthy as it can manage, your virus transmitted via a back port you find hanging wide open on the ship. The pirates sure as hell don't keep the place logistically tight. You detect evidence of UGEI tampering, and it is likely this was a UGEI ship at some point. Many Pirate ships are, but this one especially.

You remain quiet as your worm works through the system, locating the crew of pirates-or brigands as they may be. Several hundred, a large crew. You manage to steal a bit of data from the ships computers in the process, regarding its' weapon systems

>Weapon: Several Thousand Fighters equipped with laser weaponry, and basic defenses. Main ship itself has minor plasma batteries as well as shields and armor that match your own in strength.

You watch as the ship's FTL fires up, and it prepares to jump out of the system. With this worm aboard, your broadband ship should be able to track it where it goes just fine.

How would you like to proceed?

>Allow it to make the jump, see where it's going.

It takes several moments for the ship to make the jump, before the feed you are getting comes back to you afterwards. It's some uncharted asteroid cluster, it seems. You allow Blaster to properly warp in behind it to spy on what they're doing...

"Bout time you came back AN!" A broadcast picks up on your sensitive antennae. Almost to the point it hurts, from the loud sound. If you knew of such a thing at least. "Pick up any more lost goodies?" The man laughs, to which the one from Apocalypse ow snorts in reply.
"Nope. Not as good as this puppy we found. I'll tell you what, ain't never seen such a lucky find. How's our 'friend' comin' along?" He asks the other. "Juuust fine, haha." The man agrees. "Come dock, we'll load her up." He informs him. You are detecting airwaves from the asteroid he's speaking to. It appears that it is actually a base of some sort. Even a colony, to your surprise. You suppose you could come in and destroy the place, or attempt to start infiltrating the place. From what you detect, the place is teeming with pirates. Cruisers litter the place, somewhere around a dozen or so. It looks like the pirates are building a fleet for some purpose.

I still say it's not as valuable as the carrier.
>>29263776
How about the carrier? Covertly, of course.
We can dedicate as much bandwidth as necessary to it, and we have vastly refined our methods having Hacking III at this point.

We should also let our Firewall V.I. advise us as to wise directions and warn us from ones likely to get us caught to reduce the chances of discovery.
Better slow and steady, we're not really in a rush here.

Entertainment, lets see what sort of movies these guys have
>>
>>29263828
Yeah, that's a good idea
>>
>>29263822
Begin with hacking the carrier. If we get the carrier's codes, we are most likely going to be able to hack the other ships and station far more easily as our doings can be hidden in the standard handshake protocols.
>>
i still think the carrier is some kinda trap from the UGEI.
>>
>>29263865
I'm thinking of hacking communications first.
>>
>>29263901
Then this would be a very elaborate and expensive trap for the UGEI. I would still take the bait however.
>>
>>29263958
>>29263901
Very possible. For that reason we should also have our firewall V.I. prepared to defend us at a split seconds' notice and ask him to pay close attention to our own firewalls.

>Listen in for info
You detect that the asteroid base seems to have several centers, entertainment rooms, cafeteria, bunk houses. It really is a full on city in deep space. You wonder how the pirates managed to get such a thing...

You catch hint of the pirates moving a large container down on the docks of their asteroid colony. They're wearing suits, you suspect to breath, as they guide the large steel container up to the cargo hull of Apocalypse Now.
"What do you say we teach those assholes up in UGEI fleet security what happens when you mess with Red Horizon, huh?!" One of the men yells through his signal, earning a resounding yell from the others. They sure do enjoy yelling a lot.
"They'll never see this sucker coming. A little bio-logi-cal warfare and all that, yeah?" One of the men snickers, extremely proud of their plan apparently. You can sense several Cruisers take off and start to get into formation around the Carrier.

What do you do?

Put all the BW we can spare into doing so but be prepared to jump in with nearly everything.

If we can warp in close, I'd like to punch some boarding torpedoes into some of the cruisers, the carrier and the station and follow the spiderbots (and potentially their support weapon if it becomes necessary) as they spread terror on their way to the bridge and reactor.

This.
The entire point of their attack is to strike at civilians. Their method of attack are bioweapons.
They are extremely unlikely to accept help from an unknown hand, and even if they did they would have no point in attacking as the entire point of this attack is most likely to deliver the bioweapons and then retreat.

You're essentially asking them to turn down the attack.
If we were to go this route, it would probably be more efficient to warp into the battle, simply not fire upon them, and only then explain that we have a common enemy and have no hostile intentions towards them.
(And even then I want to hack the carrier.

Just barely

You can not allow this Carrier to escape this sector of space, you decide. Your bandwidth surges through Blaster, and your hand comes through, ready to pluck the system's ship for yourself. Your virus, the Trojan horse, gets you inside relatively quickly, and before it's too late, you manage to leap deeper, taking control of the engine block, before the firewall destroys the Trojan horse. That was close, but you manage to take control and seize the engines-if you chose to do so.

"Huh? What the hell?"
"Something wrong Apoc?" One of the other cruisers transmits
"Yeah, I can't use the engines. The hell's goin' on?"
"Shit, it's on the fritz?"
"I don't think so, somethin about a 'cy-ber attack' is on screen..."
"You fucking idiot, the damn computer's getting attacked!"
"Shit, what really?! How do you even attack a computer?!"
"It doesn't matter, must be UGEI bullshit. Scan the area, they gotta have a agent out here somewhere!"

They are now actively seeking your shuttle. How do you proceed?

You assault the Carrier's firewall once again, plowing against it and misstepping. It's tougher then you suspected, older UGEI technology, but not poorly made. Even with these pirates at the helm, this ship is hardly one to be messed with.
Your hacking attempts land you with just control of the engines, thankfully they do not seem to know how to counter hack you. They do, however, have a storm of fighters that are launching slowing from the ship, going around to search for you.

>>29265602
An inactive firewall they neither understood nor maintained was a 95 challenge even with all our power?
That seems a bit excessive, doesn't it, especially considering the vast amount of bandwidth at our disposal?

At any other quest it would've indicated a challenge rating players were simply not intended to beat at all, and it leaves no space for improvement when assaulting better firewalls.
Again, we're talking about a ship that had supposedly terrible cybernetic defenses, being assailed by a virtual God of hacking with Grade 3 hacking tools and viruses.

I'm saying for fighting an empire that has equal or greater hacking strength than our own, relaying entirely on VI is a terrible weakness and having a human element that is motivated and aggressive enough to launch raids is a plus. It is still a passive firewall that is poorly maintained.
And as any computer tech will tell you - no matter how powerful the firewall, if the users are sloppy it's going to be as efficient as swiss cheese.
And it's a passive firewall, while the most powerful ones we have fought>>29265931
are actual V.I.s that actively fight back and change the firewall in response to our actions.

Even if this was a fair challenge rating for it, what would the challenge rating for a professional hacking challenge be when one this mistreated and simplistic is a 95?

You've had enough.
Athena's warp drive was warmed up all this time as you prepared yourself for the worse. Now is the time to act. You will have this technology. There is no other option
Athena warps in right in front of Blaster, easily protecting the ship from a flurry of plasma fire which is squelched under the mass of your thrumbing shields. Athena certainly intimidates if nothing else, that is for certain.

"H-Holy shit! What the hell, why is the-"
"Fuck, is that the Rhea?! Why the hell is it out this far!?"
"Who gives a shit who or what it is, that's UGEI tech right there, unleash the weapon!" The men cry out, obviously terrified from the sounds of it. You open up with your plasma weapons, tearing apart the front line of light Cruisers, leaving the exploded debris floating off into space in front of you. They stand no chance. No time to escape.

Suddenly, the Carrier opens up it's cargo hold, and you watch as the large steel container comes tumbling out, and is launched towards you. As it flies past their front line, you watch them start to retreat as the cargo container explodes, opening up to reveal a MASSIVE lightling. It's size dwarfs most anything you've seen before- in fact, the only thing close was the Lightling mother you met ages ago. But if that was a mother, then what on earth was this thing!?

That's actually a pretty fair argument.

Though I'd argue that without an active defensive element they shouldn't get a roll at all, or at least a major penalty to it. Having them unable to perform maintenance or understanding it at all should be a humongous penalty - a big enough one that scoring above 90 would simply not be within their scope against the vast cyberwarfare arsenal we brought to bear upon them.

This is of course, just my opinion, but I figure feedback supported by logical argument is important when a part of the game doesn't seem entirely thought through.

The massive squid like beast has it's maw opened wide, revealing the spear-like sucker it uses to drain power sources- especially one as powerful as your ship. It moves in surprisingly quickly, when you remember-you have encountered such a being before. Maybe you can...
You recover the previous voice recording you had with the last Lightling you encountered. The wounded mother. The recording plays, and your radios crackle to life as you adjust the signal, attempting to stop the monstrous beast in it's tracks.
And it does just that.
The massive squid hovers in place for a few seconds, letting loose its own crackling signal in response to yours. You have it's attention, and stopped it's assault. You suspect the pirates are extremely confused by the lack of destruction. Maybe you can try to give the thing an order...

>1 Attempt to communicate with the creature again (High DC, possibly gain Lightling ally)

You recognize this one. The tones match perfectly with your recording. This is the same Lightling you fought back then. It's so much larger, however! How did it grow so large? You are uncertain, and there is little time to ask. The creature trills and echos back to you, intrigued. It seems to suspect you're one of it's own.

"What the hell is wrong with that stupid thing?! God damn it, it's suppose to just rape the ship to pieces, like it always does! Fuck, fuck fuck!" One of the pirate Cruisers curses angrily, the sound of a dashboard being smashed with fists hit your ears like music. This is going surprisingly well...
"Fuck, just open fire on it, that oughta piss it off right out yea!" One of the pirates states with a yell, to which the others yell at him-but too late, as laser fire hits the back of the squid like being.
The creature trills loudly, spinning and gazing back at the admittedly smaller morsels in front of it.
"Oh...oh fuck.." You hear one of the pirates exclaim, before the squid launches forward and takes up 6 of the Cruisers in one grasp, and immediately begins to drain them of all their power. "AHHHH!! FUCKTHIS-GAAYEAH" They yell more violently as their ships start to shut down one by one. The Carrier opens up full blast this time, thousands of fighters flying down and blasting the Lightling with energy weapons...but...each shot does nothing to it's skin, apparently. In fact, it opens it's maw hungrily, 'eating' some of the laser fire happily, and if you didn't know any better, you'd say it was growing larger the more energy it ate. If only slightly.
Well that certainly explains that...

You decide to let the the Lightling feast on the pirates, their screams of terror simply music to your ears as you await the being to finish it's meal, hacking through the rest of the Carrier yourself. It'll need some repairs, but Lightlings don't normally destroy ships...or rather, they don't destroy LARGE ships. The smaller ones are being tossed to towards the asteroid base as you speak, crashing and sending crackles and ripples across the asteroid's surface. That Lightling is really mad...and it seems to realize the pirates are responsible. The thing trills happily as it feasts, however, reducing the last of the battlecruisers to nothing, and finally latching onto the Carrier, ramming it's beak into the engine core and draining it dry quickly. It's almost worrisome how quickly it all happens, really. As it does, you take recordings of the various sounds. You notice it has certain patterns. It almost seems like a language in and of itself. Fascinating...

It seems like it's done feasting, for now, as it goes to attack the Asteroid base. After a few moments of destroying the super structure, you watch as it starts to pile rocks around the place, almost protectively. It looks like it's...building something.

Is there any way for us to create a "pellet" of energy of some kind? Or to massively charge an object with electricity and nudge it towards em?
I think we should do that, as a sign of good faith.

I do think we should snatch the carrier before too long, though. Also take peek at their cage - let's see if we can pick up some design tips. And their computer system, analyze that carefully

Despite being borderline falling apart from neglect, entirely lacking an active component, suffering from extremely sloppy users and being in the hands of someone who didn't even know how it worked, it presented an immense challenge.

You call in your Explorers and Repair Vessel to bring in the engine core for the Carrier. This vessel is a great boon for you, you realize. When they arrive, and you set up to properly equip the vessel with the engine core (which takes several hours), you observe the mother as she does indeed seem to be making a nest. You're not entirely certain how long you are 'allowed' to stay here, but any ships that get too close cause the trilling to intensify angrily. You take this as permission to hurry the repairs and move the Carrier along.

Once it is fully activated again, you manage to gain access to the data banks. This means you now can build ships a size category larger!
>Acquired: Carrier Class Schematics, Carrier Ship #1 'Apocalypse Now'.

All together, this event has been fascinating. You've met the old Lightling mother from so long ago, acquiring a new class of ship, and wiped out a pirate menace (or at the least, assisted a Lightling in doing so), and gave the UFW some peace of mind.

As all of this drifts through your mind, you can't help but think of the UGEI. Where have they been all this time? There has been nearly no response since their loss at Pulsar Radio. So awfully calm lately...

((And I think that will do it for today's session. I hope you all enjoyed as much as I did! And sorry about the holiday break and all. As always I'll be around for feedback comments and concerns.

For now, I think I'll clear up some production orders and such for next thread. ))
>>
>>29267552
First thing: Don't shoot the lightling. Or have idiot crew members who roll nat 1 on their control check

Kronos confirmed for laughing his ass off thinking the pirates are highly incompetent.
>>
>Comments/concerns
Erebos/Viral hax when?

I hope we will be allowed to deal with our new acquisitions now instead of waiting a cycle for UGEI to arrive and realizing that we don't have a V.I. that can pilot all those fighters.

We did manage to recover the fighters, right? Most of them?

>>29267866
If memory serves, Kronos was part of the "kill it, kill it now, what are you doing letting it get away, ophion you piece of shit that space kraken will be our dooooom" faction.
>>
>>29267807
What else do the data banks hold? Info on the bioweapon? Info on the target planet? Maybe it's one we should consider raiding ourselves - though striking against the infrastructure and military rather than the civilians?

Also, record that trilling sound. We now have a record that most likely means either "This is my home, you should go away", "You're annoying me", "This is my home, you're annoying me" or "You are not welcome". Something like that.
>>
>>29267782
Well even if we don't make Lightlings our weapon, cracking its communication will be one of the most valuable intelligence in the whole galaxy.

>>29267807
To be sure, we have Moria on the ice planet? How much defense depth do we have, or can the UGEI just warp in at any second?

Also, how expensive would it be to fully equip the carrier with it's original fighter compliment?

Since Fortuna is our lightling survivor, I think it makes sense to put her on the carrier that survived the lightling attack. Fortuna's current cruiser could be added as a carrier escort, and Fortuna would need to be uplifted.

Are there any survivors of the pirate outpost? Anyone left in the carrier? I assume they were there in the first place, so they might have stowed away when the lightling attacked it. We'd need to search for them, and probably take them in to the UFW.

The Lightling mother has piled up many of the asteroids and lodged them into the base, using it's impressive strength to do so. Moira fawns over how weirdly cute the thing looks.
"I haven't seen one of these things so upclose before-and big! Are you sure it's safe, Ophy?" She asks to be sure, to which you wave her off.
"We will be leaving shortly, and so far, it has been docile." You assure her. She has taken many photos however. For reference, she reminds you. A Lightling this size would likely cause a big rise in Lightling hunters, she says. "People give rewards for these things sometimes. They're big pests normally, but at this size? That's a floating disaster! Let's just hope she stays friendly.."

Kronos is...worried. But is thankful the thing is far away for now. He suggests not engaging. Not now, anyway. Having a full fleet would be more appropriate, he believes.
"Such a being would be better suited to fighting a single target. Our flag ship is quite the target for such a creature."

And I will call it Hercules, for firing 100 arrows at once to kill a 100 head hydra
>>
>>29269855
Ya know, a carrier in some ways just a cargo ship with a means to rapidly dispense it's cargo. with some modification, anything could be put in place of the fighters.
>>29269791
perhaps the ability to replenish fighters at the expense of total dockable ships, or less efficient ships, more expensive or something. the idea is really attractive, but once we can make ships fast enough to matter in combat, the sky's the limit. what to stop us from making a dedicated factory ship for building whatever we fancy on the fly?
>>
>>29270032
>>29270135
I found a real life equivalent of this idea:

http://www.usni.org/magazines/proceedings/2013-05/rise-missile-carriers
>>
>>29270135
100-200 gas, or more, I'd assume. Possibly more.

>>29270203
>Spoilers
Nothing but resources and the schematics to build ships so quickly it can be done in combat. (think easily replaceable drone ships fitted with almost no armor.)
>>
>>29270203
the bigger the ship, the longer it takes to make one. fighter ships are quick and easy, a battleship would take many cycles to finish i guess.

>>29270135
it would be worth it if we were facing the full brunt of the UGEI fleet.

no, not hercules, i would just call it the "Taishi Ci" class or "Artemis" class
>>
>>29270263
Yeah, that would be expensive. But it would be awesome to wipe out entire fleets at once. And overload laser point defense systems. Dumb missiles can avoid ECM defense measures. So basically they would need Battlestar Galactica flak defenses to defend against that.

>>29270391
Actually now that I think about it, converting it to a missile carrier would be worth it, for 200 gas we're making a fleet killer. Shit, maybe we should install ourselves on it.

Maybe we should call it the Ares, brother of Athena
>>
what would the carrier make new interceptors out of? if it's carrying minerals, it could be carrying fighters instead.
>>
>>29270263
What does Kronos think of the boarding drone missiles? I love them and I think Big K would too.
>>
>>29270203
Now I'm imagining huge battles revolving around factory ships. And if the portable factories work, the orbital ones would be even more powerful. the factories would be the equivalent of spawn points. Take the spawns, enemy is done.
>>
>>29270496
Indeed. It'd be quite deadly, especially to destroyers that aren't prepared.

>>29270497
It'd carry mineral supplies

>>29270498
He is pleased that you chose to hit organics where they are weakest-their bodies.
>>
>>29270575
Program0, can we start a vote to confirm the missile carrier retrofit? I'm starting to think this is a really good idea. Missile alpha strike for the win!
>>
>>29270610
ok i was kidding with the missiles guys.

maybe next cycle? this carrier still has fighters, right? why would we let the fighters just sit idle?
>>
>>29270610
I suppose a vote wouldn't hurt, though...uh...it's worth noting you may not have the gas resources to keep up with demands for this. Reloading would be a bitch.

well, if we're going to make mobile factories, they are probably going to look like this. (pic related. ...

my god... we're becomeing the Necrons of this setting.

Boarding drone missile, not a good idea against UGEI. They are mostly autonomous.

Lightling missile with growth formula, a very good idea.

>>29270661
I was under the assumption that all the fighters were lost against the lightling. Thought, might as well build a missile carrier?
>>
>>29270695
not even close. not nearly grimdark enough, and not enough literally tortured souls.
>>
>>29270691
um, belay that vote. still. i would prefure a host of plasma cannons than missiles. we can reuse the cannons. still. i wonder if the UGEI or other races have something more powerful than plasma.

No.
>>
>>29270610
how about we leave this one stock for now? A regular carrier is still crazy useful and doesn't become useless after running out of ammo.
>>29270691
I was wondering about ammo costs. how long would building one take though? it might be worth building before a large battle. other than than that, upkeep wouldn't be worth it
>>
>>29270724
i said, we're BECOMING the necrons. we're not there yet.
>>
>>29270759
A Carrier of that size? As stated above 300-400M, 300 G
The extra 200 is for fitting ships normally meant to be fitted with lasers with missiles. Which is pretty cheap considering there are thousands of these ships.
>>
>>29270691
(slap forhead) damn it, did this pirate that we kinda took out had a bounty on his head and is there any way we can collect on it?
>>
>>29270831
The UFW actually are likely to offer you a reward for your efforts.
Likely in credits.
>>
>>29270812
so, did we recover the carrier's fighters, or no?
>>
>>29270912
About a quarter of max capacity.
>>
>>29270921
nuts. oh well, free carrier. and we can make the new fighters more suited to VI piloting.
>>
>>29270812
I meant how long as in how many cycles. anyway, I'm just speculating, which I could do all night. This quest gets me thinking about "the possibilities" like none other. Thanks for running.
>>
>>29271003
No problem. And to arm it that way? A cycle, unless you build it to be equipped that way. It'd push the boundaries of a cycle, but would be the only thing you could build in that place that cycle.
>>
>>29271039
well, tonight was a fun night program0, i'll see you on the 1d4 chan page, off i go back to work on chap 9. stay warm.. well, as best you can as this insane winter is going to be.
>>
>>29271039
I guess I understand that people want to hold off on the missile carrier. Still, I think it's a great asymmetric warfare weapon that should be explored, especially since we're most definitely always going up against superior forces.
>>
>>29271262
yeah, for sure. it's a trump card, and will probably win us a battle, but maybe it's too early to play our entire hand, knowmsayin?
>>
>>29271323
Well I'm getting nervous that Program0 is hinting that the UGEI is up to something, so having a stand off weapon that can inflict an enormous amount of damage instantly could be invaluable in forcing a retreat or covering our tactical retreat.

next cycle, then. soon. sunpetal-class carrier is go.
