It takes a further two hours for crews to be retrieved, disabled tanks to be removed from the field and a short victory ceremony to see to. Unfortunately you aren't done by lunch- a fact that Patrick bemoans as he'd elected to skip breakfast today. As you stand at attention along with the rest of Oorai's Senshado team, he's just a step or two out of range for you to elbow him in the ribs.

You are Commander Russells of the M26E1 Pershing Heavy Tank "Black Jack" and that's one round down; three to go- even the ever-humble Miho Nishizumi, Oorai's commander and your girlfriend, looks absolutely pleased with herself and the rest of the team, though putting on a show of respectful silence is practically buzzing with enthusiasm over the win.

As the ceremony ends and Miho and Kay shake hands, the two teams finally leave the field and start to intermingle. Kay immediately approaches you with Miho and a big smile on her face. "So, next time you're gonna come fight for my team, right?" She offers. "I figure your crew deserves two tournement wins in a row!"

Still got obligations with Darjeeling for the immediate future.

You know, I think it might be a good idea to sell our services to various tanking teams, kinda like Swiss mercenaries. Not right now, of course, but further down the line. We could certainly use the cash.

'We' as in Grizzly team or Ooarai? If the former, what makes you say that? None of the crew has ever really mentioned money issues
>>
>>29267071
Grizzly, and we could use the cash to help support the team. We get the money, we give it to Miho, and she has Anzu launder it while saying that they have a sponsor or something.
>>
>>29267317
If I'm reading what you say right, this would take place after the tournament, correct? At which time the money would not be needed because that was the object of winning the tournament: To raise money to keep the school open.
>>
>>29267359
...and?
>>
>>29267395
Just sayin' that when we win the tournament, there's no point in continuing to be tank-mercenaries because Ooarai's money problems will be solved. That's all. THat said, I'm looking forward to seeing what Jack has in store for the endgame.

Sorry Kay, but we have priorities. And a potentially crazed bitch of an ex if we leave for not-America.

By the way, who would be our next match if we're following canon? Anzio?
>>
You make a dramatic gesture of pondering the offer. "Y'know, Kay, it's tempting." You say with a shrug. "...but I'd miss out on all the sweet-potato icecream." You finish with a grin, putting out your hand to shake with Kay.

"Sweet Potato Ice cream?" Kay replies with confusion as she shakes your hand. "That's a thing?"

"It's really pretty good!" Miho says. "You should try it some time!"

Kay nods in approval. "Maybe I will." She looks back to you. "Though, if you won't come fight for me, I suppose I'll have to get myself a Pershing or two." Her voice is full of awe as she thinks about the morning's battle. "Definately need to get my hands on one. Mind if we call you when we do? My crew could benefit from your experience with it."

You nod. "Sure- got to find one first, though."

Kay smiles at you and Miho before pouncing forward and, wrapping an arm around each of you, envelops you both in a massive bear hug. Miho looks about ready to feint and your face is mashed up against Kay's... frontal armor. A few seconds later she lets go. "That was a hell of a fight- keep fighting like that and even Kuromuromine won't be able to stop you!" And with that Kay moves on, leaving you and Miho staring apologetically at each other.

From behind you, you hear a cell phone's ringer go off. Sparing a glance backward you see Mako talking to someone- though her face remains calm and passive, she immediately breaks from the crowd.

As you round the corner, you see a scene straight out of a horror film. A M3 Stuart, hull split open, tracks laying to the side, ripped clean off. You don't know what compells you- something just seems off about Mako right now. You slip away from the crowd of victories Oorai students and congratulatory Saunders girls. As you follow Mako, she seems like she's in a trance, stumbling forward like she was sleep-walking. "Mako!" You call out, as you clear the crowd. Mako seems to ignore you, walking forwards towards the beach and the ocean.

"Mako! Where are you going?" You dash the last few steps as she reaches the sands and starts taking off her shoes. Glancing back you see that most of Anglerfish has broken away from from the crowd following you. "What's wrong?"

Mako finally turns and acknowledges you. "My grandmother is in the hospital. I need to get back to Oorai now- I'll swim if I have to!" Her voice is quiet, grave, and absolutely serious.

"Wait... Just stop." You plead. "We can get you there a lot faster if you don't get yourself killed by swimming out to sea..." You move around, putting yourself between the upset girl and the ocean- at least she'd have to get past you at this point.

"What's wrong, Mako?" Saori's the first on the scene, followed by her best friend Hana and finally Yukari and Miho.

"Need to get back to Oorai- my grandmother was taken to the hospital." Mako says, trying to get past you. You do an excellent job of stopping her- it helps that she probably weighs eighty pounds and isn't terribly strong. "Right now-" She says, squirming to try to get past you.

At this point you feel a cold shadow descend over you. "Take our helicopter." A voice from behind you says. You turn slowly and see Maho, staring at your group with Erika standing behind her.

Mako looks from Maho, to Miho, and to you. Miho speaks first: "Go on, Mako! Your grandmother needs you!" she says with an enthusiastic smile. "We'll come when we can!"

You nod, and look over to Maho. "Thanks." You say simply with a polite nod. Maho nods back to you. Her and Erika, who remains thankfully quiet- you assume that since yesterday Maho had briefed her second-in-command on the meaning of 'if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all'- walk a short distance to find...

Well, it's technically a helicopter, though like nothing you were expecting- it's large fusilage looks like it was taken directly from some ancient transport aircraft and, instead of the usual main-rotor/tail-rotor set-up that you and most other people are used to, it instead has two spindly booms jutting out from each side, each with a counter-rotating propeller.

You look over at Miho and speak quietly, hopefully with Maho hearing. "That thing flies?" You ask incredulously.

She nods. "Very well! Erika is quite proficiant with the Drache!" You're still not entirely convinced- the thing looks experimental at best.

Nonetheless, Mako boards the craft as its engines cough and power to life. As Maho's about the close the doors, though, Saori jumps forward. "I'll go with you!" She shouts, running forward to embark.
