You are Gertrude Pool, Sophomore Class President and new commander of Lafayette Girls Academy’s revived Tankery Team.

You grunt, groaning as the rhythmic pitter patter of rain against the window. You sigh as you gently toss Kitten’s arm off your chest then sit up. You watch the window. Cloudy as all hell, and rain is pouring down the glass. You don’t hear any thunder or lightning though, so it may only be the start of the storm.

You gentle shake Kitten awake. “Kitten… time for school.” Kitten whines, rolling over and muttering something indistinct. You say, “Come on, you did enroll in a morning class, you might as well.”

Once you both get to waking, you both get to freshening up. Showers, brushing of the teeth, washing of the hair, etc. Finally, when you get to uniforms, you look deeper in the closet. That’s not even a gay joke.

It’s raining pretty heavily out there, so you might want to bundle up.

The Greatcoat has never been one for style or elegance. But, it’s warm definitely. You also pack up the spare rain ponchos for just this occasion. You look over at Kitten, whose done the same.

Kitten fiddles with her poncho a little. “Is all this necessary?”

You nod. “Don’t want my little kittycat getting a cold, you know?”

You open the door, and the sound of rain immediately assaults your ears. You both step out, putting up the hoods of your ponchos, and then heading right into the rain.

“Hi there, President!” You look at Nancy and your staff, who’ve all gotten the greatcoats and rain ponchos for the weather. They walk on down to your level.

Lisa says, “Nasty weather. Think we’re going to cancel Tank Practice today?”

>>
>>29281346
Yeah, let's go with this.

If anything else, we'll be able to practice in (somewhat) rasputitsa conditions.

You shrug. “Anybody got a weather forecast?”

Lisa says, “They’re predicting rain throughout the entire day. Chance of thunder and lightning later in the afternoon.”

You nod. “Alright, well I’ll think on it. Maybe lunch or so?”

“Sounds good,” says Lisa.

With that, you all leave the dorm and head out into the rain. You occasionally spot a clueless freshman running to class, no poncho or greatcoat, apparently never bothering to have checked their closet. You also spot more comfortable upperclassmen in coats, ponchos, and coats of their own ware. You remind yourself that maybe it’s time to buy yourself a nice coat. Greatcoats are nice and warm in the winter, definitely, but wearing it out of season is going to make you look like a total hipster.

You shudder. Hipsters.

You ask Nancy, “So, Nancy. How’d it go with Fairless last night?”

Nancy says, “Lots of work to be done. Turns out Fredendall left Fairless a massive backlog of work that needed to be filed. We were up until about 2 O’Clock.”

Lisa gasps. “2 O’Clock? Didn’t it start raining by then?”

Nancy nods. “She walked me home. She’s actually pretty darn nice when you get to know her!”

“Really,” says Lisa. “Ain’t that quite the thing.”

> Read a Book (The Soldier of Tomorrow)

Despite the fact that you’re in the rain, you decide to try and read on the way to school. You lean over heavily to make sure the pages are dry. You feel as if you’re getting to the end of the book.

> The Soldier of Tomorrow: Progress: 90%

You sigh as you shut it. Too many raindrops are getting on the pages.

Nancy says, “This weather’s so cruel. I would’ve expected just a light rainstorm at the very least.”

Lisa says, “Well, we couldn’t have sunny weather 24/7 could we, Nancy?”

“I suppose,” says Nancy. “But still, I don’t like rain.”

Ramirez says, “I like rain.”

Lisa looks over at Ramirez. “Why?”

“Because it’s nice,” says Ramirez.

You nod. “Of course. I can understand, there’s that cleansing sensation of rain, purification, mother nature absolving you of your sins and all that!”

Ramirez shrugs. “Yeah, like that.”

Kitten says, “Well, regardless. It’s going to be really muddy out.”

You arrive at the school campus, and find a few familiar faces. O’Hara and O’Brian are directing students to their classes, clad in bright red rain ponchos. The freshmen crew are gathered under an awning, instruments on their backs, lamenting the weather.

You find yourself underneath an awning and then sit down against a wall. You proceed to reading The Soldier of Tomorrow. You finally manage to get through the last few pages, detailing more on Infantry theory and how it may be applied on the battlefield of tomorrow. Could really help you on your project.

> The Soldier of Tomorrow: Progress: 100%

You stand up and the shut the book up. You gather your things and head out to class. Math class is first. Thanks to your studying last night, you’ve managed to at least pick up on what the professor is saying, much as you’d like to just go right to sleep.

English is pretty much the same, nothing new on the Western Front. Just a basic grammar and vocabulary quiz which you’ve studied for and thus you’re sure you can pass with ease.

You sit down next to your staff. “Ah, President, how are your classes today?”

You say, “Well Nancy, didn’t fall asleep. I’m actually getting the knowledge every girl needs in order to get into college and become a working member of society!”

It refers to the Porsche variant of the turret, which is kind of a misnomer because both the "Porsche" and the "Henschel" turret were built by Krupp, as were almost all turrets for any tank in the war. It instead refers to the design plans from the respective factories.

“So, girls, have you reviewed what’s in the shop?”

Nancy nods. “All of them are pretty well proven tanks. The T-26 and the 35(t) would make excellent scouts, and the King Tiger and the Sherman would make great team carries too.”

You nod. “Yeah, I mean, I’m pretty partial to the big cat myself. It’s huge.”

Nancy nods. “Unreliable though. You push it too hard in cross country and you might throw a track. Not to mention the engine’s a bit underpowered.”

Lisa says, “Everything else looks great though, won’t argue with your purchase.”

“Say, since we’re on the topic of tanks,” you say, “What would you guys think of practice today?”

Well Nancy seems to like the Tiger II at least, barring reliability problems (which is solved handily by elite status) and its engine (which I hope to at least partially elevate using Improved Suspension).

You walk on by through the crowd of cute girls doing cute things. Not much going on except some basketball. So you decide on walking over to a crowd of freshmen to see what’s the latest gossip.

Now that you think about it, there’s a LOT of freshmen in your gym class. Wonder how you got saddled with that responsibility.

You sit down, “Hey girls, what’s up?”

One of the freshmen recognizes you. “Hey, you’re Gertrude Pool, the tank commander!”

You nod, smiling. “That’s me! What are you up to?”

Another freshmen says, “We’re just sitting around doing nothing. There’s not much we can do today.”

“Cool beans,” you say. “So you girls in a club or anything?”

One of them raises her hand. “I am! I’m in the Writing Club!”

You say, “Don’t you mean the Reading and Writing Club?”

She crosses her arms, puffing her cheeks, and scowling angrily as she looks away from you. “Pft. We don’t talk about the Reading Club.”

You ask, “Well, what’s wrong with the Reading Club then?”

The freshman says, “Those old hags think that science fiction and fantasy aren’t real literature.” She continues on, saying, “We ended up having a fallout. So, we split up, Reading and Writing Club are now two separate entities.”

You nod. “Okaay… I sort of understand I suppose.”

The freshman nods. “Good!” She offers her hand. “Rachel Bradbury. The new president of the Writing Club!”

You shake her hand. “Well, you already know me then. Nice to meet you, Bradbury.”

“Good meeting you.”

“So, writing eh?”

Bradbury nods. “Yep, we’re looking into doing a lot of freelance writing, for the yearbook, newspaper, etcetera. We’re also looking into producing original content for ourselves, creative writing, all that stuff.”

“Cool, you got anything in the works?”

Bradbury shakes her head. “Nah. We’re mostly throwing things at the wall right now, seeing what sticks. All kinds of stuff are being tried and tested and I don’t think we’ve come up with anything just yet.”

“Ah,” you say, “You know, I always though original stuff like novels was the work of one person.”

Bradbury responds, “One person and a lot of editors.”

“Okay, that’s fair enough.”

ALARM

Whoop. Time for the next class. You say goodbye to Bradbury then head on out of gym class. No time for showering either, you gotta get the day done.

Theatre class goes on by rather smoothly, mostly because you don’t really do anything in theatre class today. History class as well is mostly spent reviewing the fall of the Roman Empire and a small coverage of the early stages of the Dark Ages. Nothing too special and nothing revolving around tanks. Keegan and Smith though are pretty keen on taking lots and lots of notes on the subject.

Lastly, you get French out of the way. You pay extra close attention in French class, considering you’ll be spending time in France.

Nancy says, “President! Have a nice day today?”

You nod. “Yep, and I bet it’ll be even nicer with Tankery practice abound.”

Lisa says, “What’s our practice going to be like today?”

“Dunno,” you say. “I was thinking some classroom stuff. Dunno if we should go on with field stuff.”

Lisa says, “Well, decide when we get there. All of our crews are gonna be there and we should at least know what we’re doing.”

> Note: You have the option to cancel practice at any time, even during practice itself. However, you will fail to earn a CP, and canceling mid practice may have some consequences behind it.

You all walk on down to the newly christened Tankery HQ. It’s not too far from the school, being only just a little walks away.

The Tankery HQ is part building part warehouse. Nothing too special. The building however is too stories, allowing for multiple facilities that’ll help simplify a lot of things, and thus allowing you to operate more independently of the school. If this HQ had just been a wooden one you assembled yourself, hell it might not even be here.

You enter into the lobby, whistling at the fresh, clean, area. From the sounds of it, your crew are inside the lounge, so that’s where you head. The lounge is a large room, with couches, TVs, tables, etc. You can see the Polish playing Ping Pong with each other at the far end.

“Hey, Octavia. Hey, Wendy. What’s up?”

Wendy and Octavia look positively depressed as they watch the news. Wendy says, “We saw the Ultra-Sherman you bought off of Walter Christie. Jesus Christ,” she says.

You nod. “Something wrong with it?”

Octavia says, “What isn’t wrong with it? If it were a dog I’d shoot it.”

Wendy says, “Unlimited Tankery in general is just really fucking lame. The things they do to tanks in the name of being better. It ruins the point of Tankery. So much.”

Octavia nods. “Yep. Walter Christie isn’t one of our favorite schools.”

You ask, “Ever face an Unlimited Team before?”

Octavia nods, smirking. “Actually, yeah. Was one of our first matches in our Tiger tank. It was against Sidney Horstmann School of Technology, it was an Academyship visiting our area.”

You smile, “Guessing you won?”

Wendy scowls. “We lost.”

“Oh,” you say, surprised. Didn’t see that coming. “How?”

“None of our guns could penetrate their armor. They brought out a casemate Maus armed with a sawn-off 240mm Black Dragon and two sponson 105 Howitzers along with the Spigot mortar racks from Matilda Hedgehogs. We couldn’t even get close before they just blasted us.”

“Ouch,” you say.

For training I suggest a theoretical analysis of tankery battles

Have a brainstorm session
Talk about which things makes tanks defeat other tanks.
Tactics, Strategy, etc. We also know our first opponent. Let's discuss that.

If we go outside for practice, have the crews learn to operate tanks in the mud. Mostly driver training, but commander is important too in navigating around big mudpools you can get stuck in, etc. Gunner will notice the ground is less stable, too. Radio operators will be busier than ever relaying not only tactical information but with the maneouvering around dangerous ground the commanders must micro-manage their coordination much more.

> Combat Theory

You all sit down in the special classroom built for the Tankery team. Dubois stands at the front of the classroom. She’s giving a powerpoint presentation on various combat theorems and things to know when doing Tankery, along with the review of old policites.

“Remember. It’s always best to pivot your tank to a certain degree when facing another tank head on, angle your armor that the shot hits sloped armor with a greater effective thickness.”

Everyone takes notes. You look out the window briefly to see how bad it is outside. Nothing but rain, and you can see some brief flashes of lightning in the distance. The thunder that ensues however is quite quiet.

Dubois continues. “Thus, it’s always best to engage your opponent at an angle where their armor is flattened. Though you should aim for weakspots, you should also make efforts to aim where the armor is thinnest. At least where it’s most visible.”

You nod, taking a few more notes on the subject.

You and the commanders sit up front and center as Dubois lectures you all.

“Right. On the topic of angled armor, we also have special tactics which continue with the basic principle of sloping and angling. If you can’t get into a position to hide your hull, you at least have to be in a position to angle your armor at the precise angle to maximum effective thickness not just for your front, but your side as well.”

Cathy raises her hand, “What happens if we do come up certain obstacles which only partially obscure our tank behind cover?”

Dubois says, “Well, in urban situations, it’s most practical to do what is known sidescraping. Basically, you turn your tank around a corner, but angle the tank such that you maximum your effective thickness either on your frontal hull or your side armor, depends on how you want to do it. The enemy if they’re facing your front, will have both a small target to hit, and a very well armored target to hit.”

Dubois looks over at you. “Gertrude, want to take note on this?”

Dubois says, “Now, I should tell you though, sidescraping is a bit of a risky maneuver. It’s not something you do with modern tanks with things like APFSDS rounds and targeting computers, stuff like that. Might work definitely with a tank with good side armor though.”

You sit down in your seat.

Dubois says, “Right, there’s a lot more to Command though than maneuvers. Let’s get to reviewing what we know.”

“Give it the beans, Lisa!”

The Sherman tries to power through a very thick mudslick in the fields, along with almost every other tank.

Surprisingly enough, of all things, the Panther appears to be having the time of its life. Either Luciano’s a really good commander and her driver’s badass as fuck or you’re missing some information on the Panther.

Lisa shouts back at you, “This isn’t working! We’ll throw a track at this rate! We’re immobilized!”

You grit your teeth then turn out. The water immediately hits you like a cold shower. For safety purposes, you’ve all been given helmets and goggles along with the rain ponchos. You take out your binoculars and try to figure out what the situation is. So far, Dubois’ been silent ever since she ordered you and your tanks to take a lap around the field.

You look down at the mudslick. Your tracks are at least a couple of inches into the mud. Pushing it harder will just throw a track. The Panther rolls past at reasonable speed, leaving you in the proverbial dust.

The Churchill rolls alongside you. Cathy turns out of the hatch. “Hey, Gertrude! Need a tow out of there?”

The Churchill rolls up in front of the Sherman, practically gliding on these muddy fields. You and Ramirez hop on out to assist the Freshmen as they unbundle one of the heavy duty towing cables. The cable is wrapped around the Churchill’s turret.

Tara, on the engine block of the Churchill, signals you to wrap the cable on something stiff. So you tie it on one of the loops on the Sherman’s frontal armor.

You wipe some rain out of your eyes then say, “Okay! I got it!”

Cathy walks up to the Churchill and bangs on the side. “Alright, drive!”

The Churchill slowly edges forward, Tara hanging onto the turret and watching the cable as it goes taut. The Sherman slowly but surely gets pulled out of the mud slick.

“Groovy!” you shout. Suddenly, there’s a slight bump, and Tara slips, impacting the engine and falling off in front of the Sherman. “Whoa! LISA STOP!” The Sherman brakes, and the Churchill brakes shortly after.

Cathy and you run over to Tara. “Tara!?” You sit Tara up.

> Check if she’s okay

“Tara?” You cradle Tara in your arms. “Are you okay?”

Cathy kneels down, worry crossing her face. “Tara, how many fingers am I holding up?” She holds up two in a V-Sign.

Tara says, “Two.”

“TWO!?” Cathy shrieks. “Oh god! She might have a concussion! Or worse! BRAIN DAMAGE!? OH WHAT I HAVE DO-“

“Cathy,” you say. “She guessed correctly.”

Cathy stops her episode, then proceeds blushes profusely. “Oh. Sorry.”

You look down at Tara. “Does anything hurt?”

Tara nods a little. “My arm… I-I think I cut my arm.” She points to her left arm. Cathy pokes it a little, and Tara immediately recoils in pain. “Ow! You bitch!”

Cathy says, “Sorry! Just making sure. Is it bleeding?”

You lift Tara in a bridal carry. “We won’t know until we get back to HQ. Take her back quick as you can. We’ll catch up,” you say.

Cathy helps Tara back into the Churchill, and you and Ramirez quickly run back into the Tank.

“Right, Lisa, get us back to HQ.”

The Sherman begins thundering through the mud and the rain. You decide not to rush Lisa, any mistake out her could mean getting stuck. You’re not sure where the rest of the crews are. You’re pretty sure the Chi-Ha simply gave out and it had to be towed out of the fields by Dubois’ Sheridan.

You arrive at the HQ in good time.

You stand over Tara as she’s sat down. Her greatcoat and poncho are away, and her shirt’s been unbuttoned. You see a great cut right on her upper arm. Captain Dubois is doing her best to clean the wound, and then dress it to the best of her ability. Tara puffs her cheeks, red in the face. Must hurt a little.

Dubois says, “Right. You won’t need stitches but I’d stay off that arm for a while.”

Cathy and the rest of the freshmen stand nearby, concerned. You look over at them, then back at Tara. Her shirt sleeve is stained red. This isn’t going to go well for them.

> - 10 MORALE TO TEAM NOT-A-CHANCE-IN-HELL

Dubois bandages the wound up. “Alright, up you go,” she says as she stands Tara up. Tara nods to Captain Dubois, saying thank you to her.

You shake some rain off your helmet and your poncho. What shall you do now?

I wonder how long it will take for Tara to recover from the wound?
>>
> Gunnery Practice

You allow the Freshmen to leave practice for the day to get Tara to Naval Studies Medical. With that, you all mount up your tanks again and head for the range.

You can barely see the targets through the periscope, and trying to turn out isn’t much better. “Uh… Nancy,” you say, “See anything?”

Nancy says, “I can barely see the target.”

Dubois says, “Fire when ready.”

You look down at Nancy, “Nancy, on your go.”

The Sherman shakes at the firing of the 76mm. You check the target. The shot splashed the bottom of the target. You grimace. You see the other shots splash short or just overshoot. This rain is playing havoc with your rangefinding abilities.

Lightning flashes, then thunder booms, resonating even inside your tank. “Ramirez, another round.” Ramirez takes a shell out of the ready rack and loads it up. “Nancy, again.”

The Sherman fires again. The shot takes the top of the target off.

“Alright, I suppose that’s all we can do,” you say.

With that, your tanks are returned to the warehouse. Your crews all assemble inside, groaning. They look muddied and dirty from all that maneuvering practice. You remember the Rifle team had a problem with their Chi-Ha, and you don’t even want to know how the other crews fared.

“Uh, Captain, how do you think Practice went today?”

Captain Dubois puts on her coat as she looks at you. “All things considered, it went fine.”

You say, “Even with Tara getting hurt?”

Dubois smiles. “People get hurt all the time. You shouldn’t dwell on it.” She climbs up onto the Sheridan tank. “I’m sure she’ll be fine. You know, it’s important to practice in unfair weather. Tanks don’t always just run around on fair ground, dry fields, and good roads.”

You nod. “Alright. But still-”

Dubois interrupts you. “It could be far worse, what happened to Tara. I’m going to tell you right now, getting injured or killed in Tankery is a rare thing, much as soccer moms like to say that it’s a death sport. It’s a sport like any other where people can get hurt.” She hops up onto the turret and smiles warmly at you. “Anyway, you take care of yourself,” says Captain Dubois. She climbs into the turret, and immediately the Sheridan goes running off.

“Hey, Luciano. How’d that Panther of yours go for you like that? You were practically flying on those fields.”

Luciano shrugs. “Benita’s a real good driver. Apparently her dad used to teach her all kinds of stuff in the car. To her, a tank isn’t much different from a car. A bit surprising, but I suppose it’s to be expected considering how she got here.”

You quirk your brow. “How did she get saddled with you all?”

“Grand theft auto,” says Benita Siegel, driver of the Panther. She seems pretty damn affable about it too. “A real nice car was just sitting there and I stole it. Pinkerton and O’Bannon ended up on my heels though.” She snaps her finger. “Al though is a real nice tank that’s serving us. The low ground pressure is amazing.”

“Ah,” you say. “… Al?”

Luciano sighs, unamused. Benita, Maya, and the other girls Elouise and Abigail giggle a little. “Those scrubs named our tank, Al.”

As you strip down in the Tankery HQ’s locker rooms, you decide to talk to the Rifle Team.

You nod. “Yeah, sorry. I suppose you’re a bit angry at that huh?”

Megan says, “It is kind of annoying that we haven’t found a good tank for us yet. Our Chi-Ha ended up so bogged in the mud that no one could tow us out. The Sheridan had to do it.”

Samantha says, “Believe me. I cannot wait until we get a good tank for us.” She looks over at you. “There any good upgrades in the shop for our tank?”

You shrug. “A lot of conversion details. If you want, I’ll look over them.”

Samantha says, “You’re in charge. You deal with it as you see fit.”

The only thing you need to know is that Japanese tanks in general are subpar. The Chi Nu is roughly equivalent to a Sherman but we kind of want the 120mm if only because of utility value.

I'd just upgrade their tank as much as possible with add ons. Extra armor, grousers, what have you. I don't think we need them in the tank ALL the time, I only favor it because of that utility value and it won't always be relevant.

The Type 3 Chi-Nu is by far the best Japanese tank, and it is inferior to the M4A1 Sherman in just about every way. The Chi-Ha was completely outclassed by the M3 Stuart, even with the 47mm gun. It's frankly not worth spending any money unless we run out of tanks for crews, and right now we have the Panzer IV sitting empty.

The problem there is that the gun is a bit smaller. Sure it doesn't make that much difference but the 120mm was pretty, well not dangerous but it did a lot of damage in the practice match the other day. Getting it to comp spec didn't cost that much. But any more money into what amounts to a substitute tank would be ill-advised. Purchasing decisions have suffered from a lack of focus and longer-term planning, and from a spastic indulgence of passing enthusiasms.

Though right now I think the focus should really be on recruiting a couple more crews and, especially, getting a surplus of money to have on hand. More carry-worthy tanks are needed, but upgrading the Panzer IV, Panther, StuG, and T/34 should all help there. At least we've customized the present crewed tanks now.

As I mentioned, the Type 3 is basically inferior to the Sherman in every single aspect. Even the 47mm armed Type 97 barely has 50mm of armor at its absolute thickest, and would be suitable for a scouting role only, similar but inferior to the Stuart.

We don't have another scout team, and the Rifle Club is going back into the T/34 once it becomes available.

So, at the moment, focusing available funds on assets we can use is rather more important. Until we get more crews, the Chi-Ha is still useless anyway. So we should probably be putting more effort into that. And getting the money to upgrade the lineup of carry tanks actually being used right now; getting the Type 97 would cost half of what putting the 17lbr on the Sentinel would, to qualify the opportunity cost.

Also we probably aren't being remotely concerned enough about the recall election and whatever else Fredendall is up to, but that's another matter. Just best not to completely neglect other matters in arguing over tanks.

Though a conversion may be necessary if the match is before the play. If we have the funds

Wendy says, “I think today’s practice tells you that we might grouser kits from some of our tanks. Indeed, all of them.”

Octavia nods. “I agree. Never know when you might get into muddy terrain, plus, you really can’t go wrong with grousers you know?”

You nod back at them. “Alright.” You dial up Mr. Mishka’s number.

“Ah, Gertrude!” says Mr. Mishka. “I assume power’s out at your place?”

“Yep. Sorry to call, but I was wondering if we could do some business.”

“Sure, what do you need?”

You nod. “That’ll do, Mr. Mishka.”

> - 900 DOLLARS

“Alright, anything else?”

“Nah, that’s all good. How’s your place looking?”

“Power’s fine. We’re getting to work on assembling some parts right now. You?”

“Power’s out here at the Tankery HQ and the rain doesn’t look like it’ll let up. What’s the weather report look like?”

“Grim. Rain won’t let up until at least 10 at night.”

“Jesus, is this storm trying to kill us or something?”

“I’m a Tank mechanic, not a weatherman.”

“Alright, well, thanks Mr. Mishka.”

“Happy to help.”

You hang up and look out the window. 10 at night. There’s so much rain out there it could probably flood Death Valley ten times over. You lean back in the couch, as Kitten leans on your shoulder.

Wendy sits down next to you. Octavia nudges her, and Wendy simply rolls her eyes in response.

“Come on, Wendy,” says Octavia.

Wendy sighs. “Gertrude,” you look over at her, curious. “You wanna hear a story?”

What counterparts? Americans didn't deploy any heavy tanks, and before you say Pershing, that's a Heavy tank in name only.

Oh, and I released my inner autism and did some calculations

T26E3 (The model sent to Europe)
Dimensions (inches)
Ground Contact Length
> Left track: 151.5
> Right track: 155.5

Track Width
> Extenders: 28
> Without: 25

Weight (pounds)
> Combat Stowed: 92,355
> Unstowed: 84,850

Tiger II
Dimensions (inches)
Ground Contact Length
> Both tracks: 162.2

Track Width
> Combat Tracks: 31.5
> Transport tracks: 25.9

Weight (pounds)
> Combat Stowed: 151,016

So to find ground pressure we use:
> weight/contact area =

T26E3:
92,355/(151.5*28 + 155.5*28) = 10.74 psi

Tiger II
151,016.6/(32.5*162.2*2) = 14.323 psi

So, as we can see a fully loaded Tiger II has a greater ground pressure than the nearest American equivalent.
Then we go on to look at power to weight
T26E3
> Gross: 10.8 hp/t
> Net: 9.7 hp/t

Tiger II
> I don't know if it's Gross or Net: 10.7 hp/t

And now we get to speed (km/h)
T26E3
> Maximum: 48
> Sustained: 40

Tiger II
> Maximum: 41.5
> Sustained: 38
>>
>>29289049

“Oooh, story time!”

Wendy says, “Shut up and listen.” You, along with your staff all gather around. Wendy sighs, her eyes look up in contempt. She leans back in her seat however, then focuses. “Alright, this was back in middle school. Our first year of Tankery. Octavia and Ace had already distinguished themselves in Little League Tankery matches, so I was a bit uh…”

Octavia smiles smugly, “Star struck?”

“A bit,” says Wendy. “But anyway. Yeah, when I first met Octavia, I was astonished that I’d be crewing a tank with her. Everyone else though was a different story.”

You ask, “What do you mean?”

Wendy says, “I hated Bolter’s guts. Everything she did, left spare track links lying around, left the tools scattered about, never cleaned her seat, always trying to push the Tiger’s speed, never giving enough power to the turret.”

You nod. “And the others?”

“Michelle was a real wonder. Really didn’t like her either. Always making risky shots, machine gun ports, visor slits, cupola hatches. They usually worked but hell. Kate, though, she was definitely something.”

Octavia leans over, giggling. “You had a crush on-“

“Octavia,” Wendy looks over, unamused. “I’m going to skullfuck you if you finish that sentence.”

You nod again. “So what’s the story?”

[1/2]
>>
>>29289279
[2/2]

Wendy says, “It was around our first year of Tankery. In fact, it was our first match with another school, James Longstreet Middle School. Their tankery team was mostly Shermans and Stuarts, nothing too special, but they knew what they were talking about when it came to tanks. In comparison, we all looked like a bunch of amateurs.

“Ekins gathered us all around before the match, and she said, ‘No matter what happens, we’re a team. Not just one team, but many all come together to form one great big one. I won’t let you all down as Commander.’ Ekins had a way with words sometimes.”

Nancy asks, “So did you win the match?”

Wendy shakes her head. “It was a total disaster. We were the only ones with any real kills, four Shermans, M4A3s I think. The rest ended up in one big clusterfuck, not knowing what to do. Even we had our issues, I was loading the wrong rounds, Bolter wasn’t providing enough power to the turret, DeWitt was trying to make trick shots, and Octavia was just goofing off.”

Octavia says, “Hey!”

“You were. But anyway, we ended up getting knocked out by a Sherman that managed to flank us after we all got in one big argument.”

You nod. “So. What happened next?”

Wendy says, “Ekins brought us all together, and then she apologized for letting us down. Worst feeling I ever had.”

You nod slowly. All the other crewmembers look on, serious expressions on their face.

> “Whatever happened to Ekins anyway?”

Wendy looks at you, surprised. She looks at Octavia, who simply shrugs in response. Wendy sighs and says, “I suppose it’d be nice to tell you. We were in the middle of a practice match. DeWitt wanted to try a shot on the cupola of another tank, see if she could knock it out that way. Kate let her do it, I loaded up a round, and she did. It was a shot from over a kilometer and a half out, and it managed to hit.”

Wendy pauses a bit, biting her lip. You tilt your head. She continues, “Ekins stood up out of the hatch.”

Nancy covers her mouth, frowning. Lisa looks shocked. Kitten cringes a little.

Wendy says, “She didn’t die or anything. But the shot paralyzed her. Crippled her for life.”

You say, “Oh my goodness. I’m so sorry, Wendy.”

Wendy says, “You had to find out sooner or later.”

Octavia nods. “We quit Tankery after that, swore never to do it again.”

Wendy’s voice break a little. “Y-Yeah.” She shakes her head, her lip quivering. Oh no, she’s not going to- Is she? She buries her face into her hands. Octavia wraps an arm around her, pulling her close.

The thunder hits outside. Little late there, mother nature.

You stand up then sit down next to Wendy. Octavia looks over at you, and you also see your crews all looking, curiously. You blink, then place a hand on Wendy’s shoulder. Wendy looks from Octavia’s hold, tears streaming down her cheeks, her eyes wet, her cheeks red.

You do the only thing you can do since you don’t really understand the situation as a whole. You offer your arms in a hug.

Wendy immediately embraces you, burying her face into your chest. You can feel her labored breathing, every bit of sadness beginning to leak out into you. You almost begin crying yourself, you’re not sure how to handle situations like this.

You remember what your father told you one day when your favorite goldfish died.

“Daddy! Mickey is dead!” you tapped the glass, you and Griselda crying your eyes out as Mickey, the fish with the black spots that looked just like Mickey Mouse floated belly up. Your dad knelt down to you, humming a little.

He said, “Well, Gertrude, Griselda. Believe me, I know what it’s like to lose someone you love. But you know, there’s something you can do to make yourselves feel better, it helps me you know.”

You looked at Dad, tears running like a waterfall. “L-Like what?”

Your dad shrugged. “Sing.”

You frowned at him. “Sing?”

He nodded back. “Sing.”

So that’s what you did. That’s what you do now.

Of all the money that e’er I spent
I spent it in good company
And all the harm that e’er I done
Alas it was to none but me

And all I’ve done for want of wit
To mem’ry now I can’t recall
So fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be with you all

Of all the comrades that e'er I had
Are sorry for my going away
And all the sweethearts that e'er I had
Would wish me one more day to stay

But since it falls unto my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I'll gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be with you all

Alright, so are we going to buy the Tiger II or not? Because I'd rather have the bitching and moaning now than later.

Then again, a lot of our members are also asleep, so now may not be the best time. Either way, more money is always good.
>>
>>29290159
I have no idea. There's still no definitive Strategy the team is going to be using
>>
>>29290159
Currently leaning towards no. It had the same problems as the Pershing. Namely, it's not a bad tank, its just too damn expensive.

Current objectives are upgrading all our current tanks to be the best they can be as well as getting another crew. Our first match is right around the corner and we could really do with a full 10 teams rather than 9.
>>
>>29289925
That was nice Schtell. Thanks for running.
>>
>>29290159
Exactly the same problems as the Pershing.

We didn't keep the Pershing, we shouldn't by the Tiger 2.
>>
>>29290270
Well the problem with the Pershing was that it wasn't "legal"
>>
>>29290318
Would've cost less to exchange the gun than to buy the Tiger 2. Price of the tank included.
>>
>>29290159
We're not ever going to have good choices. The Ameriboos will shit on the German stuff, the Wehraboos will shit on the American stuff, and the Slavaboos will shit on anything and everything.

I would like to have had the Pershing, and I think the Tiger II would be quite good as well, especially since it's already Comp Spec. The "Porsche" turret would be worth replacing with a Henschel model, but since it's already Comp Specced, all the drive train troubles that plagued the early model Tiger II's should be sorted out. If we can get the Ace crew in it, it would be an ungodly stronk tank to have, since the Kwk. 43 L/71 is more than a match for anything we're likely to encounter.
>>
>>29290159
I'm thinking yes.

Many of our tanks are pretty reasonably upgraded, and we don't exactly know when another Tiger II would come again. We could wishlist it to buy ourselves time, which I guess is a fair course, but ultimately I'm leaning towards buying it. Especially since we could eliminate its biggest weakness (unreliability) with our free elite upgrade when we recruit the Aces, it would be thematically appropriate as well to put them in the Tiger I's successor.

I admit I'm probably also biased in this, I was always a bit of a Mighty Glacier type of guy.

>>29290270
The Pershing's only crimes were being expensive and slow. Expensive is a reasonable concern, but slow is something you'd have to expect in a heavy tank. At the very least, the Tiger comes with a fuckton more armor than the Pershing.
>>
>>29290403
Comp Spec does not make problems in the original go away.
>>
>>29290421
>The Pershing's only crimes were being expensive and slow. Expensive is a reasonable concern, but slow is something you'd have to expect in a heavy tank. At the very least, the Tiger comes with a fuckton more armor than the Pershing.

It was expensive because the QM can make it whatever he wants, and slow is debatable
>>29289049
>>
>>29289049
>Tiger II
>Combat Stowed: 151,016lbs
That's empty weight.
Encyclopedia of German Tanks of WW2 gives it as 69.8 tonnes loaded. So ground pressure is 15.06 psi.

> I don't know if it's Gross or Net: 10.7 hp/t
Gross, and 9.9 hp/t
>>
>>29290439
Elite does, at least to some degree.

We could always buy Improved Suspension as well, hoping that would make it somewhat more mobile.

Ultimately though, you shouldn't expect a speed demon from a heavy tank.

>>29290403
>If we can get the Ace crew in it, it would be an ungodly stronk tank to have, since the Kwk. 43 L/71 is more than a match for anything we're likely to encounter.

I'm actually kind of giddy at the trolling potential of an elite Tiger II, considering what Ace did with her Chaffee it sounds hilarious.
>>
>>29290439
No, but it makes the vehicle perform as well as an exemplary model of that production run would. And the mid-to-late series Tiger II's performed very well as individual units. Since we're a team with seemingly unlimited access to fuel and spare parts, we shouldn't have the problems with keeping the Tiger II in service that the fuel and parts-starved Wehrmacht did.
>>
>>29290495
Disregard the speed part, the Pershing is rather slow with the limiter
>>
>>29290159
>so are we going to buy the Tiger II or not?
Currently? Leaning at "No" due to budget and that we could put the money to use on our current line-up first and a ton non-tank related school stuff that we'll be doing in the immediate future.

However, I have no objections with putting it in the Wishlist before the deadline expires.
>>
>>29290509
>They perform to their historic ability, or even better.
>>
>>29290556
Elite status man.

That's ultimately what I'm aiming for when it gets operational.
>>
>>29290159
I'm am voting YES on it, its comp spec'd, so most of the drive train issues are a non-issue, unless whoever drives the thing is fucking retarded, and we need a good tank for the Aces when we get the others on board, I say we get it now, and work on getting the Aces in our lineup, then they make it an ELITE tank, and it has no more issues.

The only problem I see (and this is nitpicking now) is the Porsche turret face has a shot trap into the turret ring, but we can fix that later.

This thing is only available for 1 week, and at a damn good price considering its a comp spec ready konigstiger, I'm all on board for getting it.

and gentlemen, do please try to leave ameriboo vs wehreaboo'ing out of this discussion
>>
>>29290496
Sounds like you know your stuff.
One thing I can't find the answer is why the Tiger II's ground pressure was measured after it had sunk into the ground
>>
>>29290569
Could you stop moving the goalposts?
>>
>>29290582

Firstly (and I probably should have clarified this sooner), I'm not the anon you were talking to.

Secondly, I was always planning to hand the Tiger II to the Aces, so elite status is pretty much a given, which makes your objection moot.
>>
>>29290556
Exactly. As individual tanks, the Tiger II performed quite well. The weak link was Germany's inability to supply them with fuel and parts.
>>
>>29290421
>We could wishlist it to buy ourselves time
We should do this, even if we don't want to buy it immediately, it gives us more time

we should totally buy it immediately

Also, Schteel, whats our current cash at?
>>
>>29290624

With the Grouser kits, we should be at 13,650.

This is assuming that the latest figure given by Schteel in the OP is correct.
>>
>>29290610
That's not the argument people are making though. They are waxing on about Comp Spec.

>>29290614
The problems don't go away just because you can repair it instead of outright abandoning it.
>>
>>29290661
Except that Comp Spec is irrelevant here, because the Aces come with a free elite upgrade.

I'm not the other, the only thing I care about is how much shit we wreck with an ELITE Tiger II.
>>
>>29290661
>They are waxing on about Comp Spec.
it would have `15k to comp spec the pershing, and then probably another 15k to get a suitable 90mm gun AND mount (don't forget that, the mount was changed for the T54 gun, even though it was all tankery legal, despite what Schteel says)

considering what we would have had to do to get the pershing ready for a match, the Tiger II ir much cheaper
>>
>>29290691
Then you are not even part of this argument. Go away.
>>
>>29290726
The argument is IRRELEVANT, because the Tiger II is going to come as Elite, not Comp Spec.
>>
>>29290720
It was vintage? Must've misremembered that.
