You are the Wage Slave. The cog in the machine that is the MegaCorp you are enslaved to. You make enough money to survive, maybe barely, maybe comfortably, however your supervisor feels about your output towards the Corp.

You wake up, it is 4:30 A.M September 18, 2073. You look out the window of the Corp provided apartment and its raining, but in Seattle when isn't it? Well time to get up and look in the mirror and start the good ol' 6-9 shift.

And I hope the plot ends up noir as fuck, with us chasing down leads, rolling with the punches, and digging too deep for our own personal safety, all for the good of the company. Because at the end of the day, in spite of everything, we're a loyal company man.

Frank Dodge you smooth Troggy. You admire yourself in the mirror a bit, a WageMage must always look his best. Inside of the "cramped" bathroom you start your beauty routine: Shave, shower, teeth, hair, finally buffing and polishing those immaculate horns of yours. After you are out of the bathroom, you get dress wasting no time at all in your machinations. As you walk onto Ares Plaza in Everett your 'Link chirps with a message from your boss

>Meeting at 6:00 A.M to continue discussing the break-in two nights ago. Everyone must have their Commlinks on open and be prepared to answer questions.

You give a wide smirk, knowing you had nothing to do with this burglary. Why they were scanning your department when it happened in the Tech department. Still you walk in, get on the elevator and head for the correct floor.

Let's introduce ourselves to him. It doesn't do for a person in our position to fail to recognize someone. That sort of impersonality leads to security breaches and poor morale. You move slightly, being the largest thing in the elevator, plus the only thing making the elevator come to weight limit you need to be careful of others.
"Frank Dodge, I work in 'Foreign Relations' I guess you would call it, with Sam over here" You say as you pat her on the shoulder, making her wince as she takes the weight.

The Ork turns and smiles giving a cordial nod "Ronald Ferraro, I am transfer from Ares Hong Kong. I am replacing one of the Supervisors in the Technical Department."

You both shakes hands and exchange cards. Before you know it, you are all talking about the latest Urban Brawl game. Soon you reach your floor, you and Sam say good bye to Ronald and get off, heading for the meeting room.

It's always good to keep dialogues open with coworkers, superiors, and subordinates. Even if it's something as simple as asking how her pet/family member/hobby is doing, or offering a casual business lunch later. For all we know, she might even volunteer information about the current situation, or have questions or concerns we can answer or reassure her over.

Always keep the dialogue open. After all, here at Ares, we're not just a business. We're a family.

Yuuup. Agreed on the last point.

Anyway, here's the finished version of Onyx and Diamond.

I'm not sure if it makes a difference, but in our game, the troll was a dragon, and the woman was his pepper pots. That joking attitude you see there? Its because any sort of sexual tension in the game was resolved. Repeatedly. Onyx and diamond owned, though.

>Stop by the cube
"Sam I am gonna stop by the cube real quick and connect to the node, need anything while I'm there?"

"Yeah Frank, I set the SoyKaf maker last night to brew for this morning, forgetting about the meeting, grab my cup before you leave." She say looking up to you with a smile. Man, does she have a pretty face for a mundy human, can't say no to it.

You keep a brisk pace as you walk to your cube, waving and smiling at anyone who called your name, even pointing at Joey with both hands and yelling "JOEYYYYYY!" getting a "FRANKKYYY!" in response, and a hearty laugh between the two of you.

As you sit yourself down, you connect to the node, going through some of the dialogue you and Sam have had with some guys at Neonet about a glitch the Knight's Cars have been having on the Grid, when you see something strange. A huge chunk of the dialogue between you and someone over at Shiawase is missing.

A wage mage is any kind of magical character working a standard-hours legal job for some kind of company. And with a mental command a spider pops up next to your Matrix Avatar. You show him the missing Dialogue and he shoot you a short message

"This looks like a rather poor hack job, tell your supervisor, I will look into it. Thanks for bringing it up Mr. Dodge."

You surprisingly are "encouraged" to log out of the nod, shaking your head from the ever so slight feeling of Dumpshock. Thinking to yourself how luck you are that you aren't a Spider you grab Sam's cup and pour her some Kaf before briskly walking to the meeting room.

>Anything you guys might wanna do before heading to the meeting?
>>
>>29304500
Send our supervisor a message about this particular issue, just like the spider suggested. It may or may not be urgent, so we may as well just let it be in his inbox for him to tackle as his schedule allows for now. It'll show we're taking this security issue seriously, at least, which is important considering the topic of today's meeting.

As you finish typing out the message on your 'link you arrive at the meeting room. Your supervisor, sitting at the other end of the table looks to you and smiles. That man has always been something of a mentor to you while you've been with Ares.

Your boss though, a heavy set man with beady eyes is standing in the corner with a Errant Detective. Damn is this a big detective, you have seen him on one of your news streams, his name is Tosh Athack and he has been called in on some of the most recent acts of "Domestic Violence" in the Metro. As you sit down, the last to arrive, your boss clears his throat and speaks

"Now we have spent all of yesterday reviewing any connection that anyone may have with the most recent attack on this Company's stability. So far, our spiders have not been able to find any evidence of what was stolen, so the higher-ups have invited Mr.Athack to help in the investigation. I expect complete and total cooperation on everyone's part."

Tosh Athack steps up to the table and rest his hands on them 'Holy shit they make your hands look small.' Actually his entire appearance makes you seem smaller than the giant of a troll that stood before you.

"Now," Tosh says as he speaks up "I have my best on the case right now combing the entire archive, now possibly whoever broke in here two nights ago has planted a bug and it has yet to go off, but we have no other leads. Now to cover bases, has anyone here found anything strange on their nodes today or last night after the first run through preformed by the building's spiders?" And as you raise your hand you see most of the people assembled are raising their hands, except Sam and a few other. Even your boss shuffles a bit before raising his own hand.

Tosh looks at the room before pointing at you "Lets start with the first hand I noticed." He seems to chuckle, some others laughing with him. A good way to relieve tension, this guy is good, you are better though. You smirk letting him know you don't have a soft skin about such prodings.

"Well, it was this morning, I was getting my cubemate some coffee and going over some dialogue when I noticed that a large chunk from a few months ago went missing. It was from what I can recall a discussion I had with someone from Shiawase about a custom cyber suite a customer had ordered and included some Shiawase made parts. I cannot recall the direct line, or if it was settled." You finish your explanation, settling back into your seat, your supervisor giving you a warm smile and an approving nod. Tosh though does not seem as pleased. As everyone else who raised their hand explains their problems. Tosh scratches his chin and thinks about how each case might be related. From what you have picked up. Several orders to and from other corps and even the metroplex government have gone missing. The meeting finishes up about two hours later after everyone is finished speaking. As you get up to leave a message comes up on your 'link

You walk over to the corner office your boss resides in and open the door. Synthgar smoke fills the air as he smokes. He usually kept bad habits to when he was nervous you have always noticed. You let out a slight cough and he turns to you "Oh Frank, heading out for Downtown? Be sure to knock them dead." He chuckles a little and tries to smile.its genuine, but does it freak you out seeing him act this nervous. You smile and nod, closing the door behind you and making for the elevator. As you reach it, it opens with out a button press and Tim from Accounting walks in, carrying a tablet with him he nods to you and briskly walks to the meeting room, where Tosh Athack is still sitting, talking on his 'link.

Things are fishy. Keep our wits about us.

Just do it a little bit, see if there's anything routine while we check our watch and messages on our link, then headdownstairs when there isn't.
if there is, we go from there

You lean in, once again relying on those adept powers of your's again. What you read though is limited.

Tim: "We have an issue with an account."

Tosh: "How much?"

Tim puts his tablet in front of his face, but you can see Tosh's eyes widen and the rest you can tell by intuition as his hands slam on the table and he stands up, making this elf look like a dwarf as he yells at him.

Tosh: "What? How could you have not reported this earlier you number cruncher. Go make an official report and stop wasting my time!."

To which Tim rushes out and basically runs for the elevator and push the button, he then looks up at you, jumping in fright. Sweat covering his face.
"O-o-oh hey Fr-Fra-Franky, thought you already left." The elevator opens, Both of you getting in this time, pressing buttons for your respective floors. You can tell though how shaken Tim is.

"So Tim, you wanna talk about why you are shaking like a leaf. Do you wanna go into it?" You say, putting your hand on his shoulder. He looks up and smiles for a sec feeling relieved.

"Yeah, I got my ear talked off my that detective guy. I'm about to go make a report, but I'll tell you if you want after work, meet over at that sports bar a couple blocks down." You nod, not knowing if you will be able to make it, but you can tell him later if not. You do have Ten hours after all. You get to Accountings level and Tim gets off, waving good bye. A spring in his step, damn its great being able to cheer up anyone you wanted with just a simple touch and a kind word. You get off in the garage, The van waiting for you, and luckily its sized so you, and everyone else can fit in it, along with the presentation of a new Ares-Boeing joint Spacecraft for faster travel between Earth and the Mars Research Base. You marvel at the model and even look over some of the cliff notes the researchers provided to help you with the pitch.

You motion for the driver to go, and move to turn your hread, and the whole seat follows your motion so you have a better look at the model. "So guys, this seems to be a big moment for this company. If Boeing agrees to this proposal we might have a partnership that will make us larger than Saeder-Krupp, bigger than the Dragon himself. I bet all of us will get a mention in the history books. So don't feel nervous boys and gal," Nodding to the woman in the back of the truck, holding down the covered cart the model sat on."I'll also have you know that you are with the best in the biz. So throw those worries out." But as you get onto the interstate and head for Downtown, something does not feel right. These guys are not looking over their papers as much as you are. Really they are rather quite, the speech not really doing much for them it seems.

You smirk and pat one of the researchers on the shoulder making him jump, then it runs through your spin, that chill. Slowly you look over each person who is now ducking their head down.

"Hey guys, What is with the faces?"

None of them answer as you spy the cart. All of them are looking down at it, you slowly lean over and grab the cloth. A hand shooting out to grab your wrist as you clutch the cloth

"Don't." The look on his face, it is a face you have seen before. As a kid growing up in the poorer parts of Seattle. It read of the face of a runner. Your eyes narrow as you ignore is heed and pull the cloth up.

Guns, Grenades, Several mask, and a totem.

You are suddenly pushed back into your seat as three of the five researchers jump ontop of you as they hold you down, but your raw strength overwhelms them as you throw them off, and against the wall of the van, throwing the door open and the other two unfortunate souls out of the van as the first one hangs onto the door for his life. The other two still sitting down grab for the guns and point them at you.

"Woah fella, we don't wanna hurt ya. Now calm down and stay in your seat." As the one on the left finishes speaking you feel a pistol pressed against your head.

You take a deep breath and look deep into yourself, finally speaking with a voice that would humble Great Ceasar himself.

"I do not know who you people are, what your plan is, but I do know that if you continue down this path that you will be found dead, In the Boeing office building or in this vaan by my own hands. Now lower your weapons, drive to The Big Rhino in Downtown Seattle, let me out, then drive to the nearest Knight Errant officer and turn yourself in."

All four of the runners look at you. the fear of Frank in their eyes. They move to let their comrade back in and close the van doors following your direction without a flaw they let you outside of the popular above ground part of The Big Rhino.

"Sorry, sorry for trying to use you man." The driver says as you open the door, He then drives off going to 10 feet before finding a patrol car and flagging them down. You can watch the whole conversation from here. They are promptly arrested, placed in the squad car and driven off. You shaked your head and sigh, but in your head:

'I AM THE FRAGGING GREATEST THING SINCE CHRIST'

You then smile and walk into the Big Rhino

Before you sit down at the table you send a quick message to your supervisor

>Decided to treat the team and I to an early lunch. Boeing called and canceled apparently

You then watch the buxom Orl waitress walk up to you, a cheery smile on her face.
"So Honey, I take a tall glass of our in-house ale and a plate of ribs to compliment. Or am I not reading you enough?"

You turn your head so you can admire the view for a bit, but your mind trails to work.

'The boss acted rather funny earlier when I left this morning, I mean this had to be some ametuer job, this couldn't have even been something serious? Was this some sor-' then you look back to the waitress and your mind wanders before snapping back '-t of test? I should end up calling work right?'

She nods and smiles "Alright Honey, nice big meal for a nice big man, and a tea to wash it down. I'll have it out in a jiffy."

You give her a smile back before raising a hand "Actually, take your time, I need to make a phone call."

She smiles and nods walking off with your order written down, and tends to another family before heading to the kitchen.

You quickly pull out your 'link after making your order and thumb through your contacts till you find Emanuel Berg-Supervisor and make the call.

"Hello? Frank, is everything alright? We just got a call from a Knight Errant Officer who says he picked up some folk who apparently have taken you hostage, I thought that he came across some tempo addicts."

"Well sir." You start off, best to be direct about this. " I was taken hostage, yes, but whoever hired these guys didn't think about it before doing so. I made a simple threat and they fell apart."

Emanuel can be heard laughing over the Commlink, "Well Franky, take the day off while we clear everything over. Also I am gonna wire you 5,000 nuyen to help with 'damages'. Before

New Contact retrieved: Miranda O'Bannon/Bartender at the Speed Runner

"She should be able to put you into contact with some people who can help you out. Now I should go."

You smile as the call ends, your food and drink coming out as you put your 'link up. While this isn't an "Ares Approved Institution" the meal only cost 11 nuyen and you have more then plenty, plus a tip.
