You are Percius Aurex, Captain of a raider-class pirate vessel. Formerly the 14th son of a noble family, you fled that life in search of adventure and to escape your status as a political pawn. While on a mission for your wolfpack, you returned home under the name of a man you killed, revealing yourself to your sisters Alica and Synne before you added them to your pirate crew. Along with your fellow pirate Captain Morix, you completed your mission to secure navigational data and joined a convoy heading to your wolfpack's ultimate goal: Sector Corgus. Unfortunately, your reunion with Lord Wilson's wolfpack at the humbly named 'Wilson's Refuge' would not be the respite you'd planned. Having been separated from Captain Morix during warp travel, you were reunited with your fellow Captain at 'Wilson's Refuge'; only to find her soon fighting her way through Lord Wilson's ship instead of attending a Captain's gathering upon the world below. You were nearly slain in the confusion, saved only by Lord Wilson's man Erwin Estiban throwing himself into your place, but the presence of Morix's family as she liberated them from imprisonment by Lord Wilson struck something within you, and you let her pass uncontested before poor Erwin's blood had even cooled. Even so, you couldn't bring yourself to leave his corpse in the blast of a bomb Morix's men had planted, and you carried him clear as she made her escape.
>>
As luck would have it, you were the only Captain who's ship and crew were in condition to intercept Morix as her ship burned hard for the system's edge. Delaying only to collect the small grouping of crew you had planet-side and to return to your ship, your XO Elise Eberhardt took command of your vessel as the weight of the situation and your actions began to press upon you. Confiding in your XO the situation's truth, you were instructed to rest and spent the better part of a day lost within your head. Matters only turned worse as your sweet, younger sister Synne had, for lack of better terms, an emotional outburst over your inattention to the box your damned father had left for you; though you did feel enough guilt over the event that you read your father's final words to you and unlocked the cryptex that protected his final gift for you: a strange map passed down through your family for generations, and an ancient bronze aquila necklace originally found with it. Distractions dealt with, for the time being, you finally reached the bridge and relieved your XO, though not before wishing you'd not asked about rumors involving your sister Synne.

>On the last episode of DragonBa-imeanprivateerquestZ

Elise puts a hand on your forearm and gives it a light squeeze. "You're my first concern, and word has it Tes has Synne under control. You probably wouldn't like a few of the more vivid ideas being whispered, though." Your XO seems to enjoy the look you give her in response. "Good to see you still don't have a sense of humor, Captain. I thought it best that Kihomi be relieved, though Chief Enginseer Yulem insisted we reduce speed slightly due to strain upon the drives. Nothing we can do about the ship's systems having limits, unfortunately." Her finger sharply taps your arm as she laments the last bit of information.

"Wait, what about my sister?"

"Oh, most of them are about how Keller is a poor sod, your sister's points of focus upon a particular cook, and why she wasn't married off. Some of them are evolving into stories of strange noises around her room, though."

"You're kidding, right?"

"Is that an order to investigate them? I could probably make a night or two of it" teases your XO.

"That isn't funny, she's my little sister, Elise."

"Does this mean you'll have to give Tes a talking to about taking advantage of your sister?"

"W-what?"

Elise can't take anymore, and covers her mouth as she bursts into a bit of laughter.

"Go get some rack time, Elise. You're worse than a drunk right now."

"Oh, the ways I could twist that, Captain."

"Emperor. Just go to bed, Elise. That is an order."

Your XO walks away with a chuckle, offering you a little wave. "By your command, Captain. I am relieved."
>>
>>29349506

Two days pass as you alternate shifts with Elise and Synne avoids leaving her quarters. As your crew heeds the blaring claxton and prepares to enter battle, Kihomi cries out in dismay from the helm as she relieves her underling. "Son of a bitch! We're off course by half a fucking degree!" Her hand lashes out toward the subordinate, staggering the smaller man. "You idiot! You've ruined everything! We'll be too far behind them to intercept!"

Elise's hand moves to your forearm sympathetically, a finger tapping you as she adjusts her fingers' position. "What are your orders, Captain? We could try to push the engines to make up the distance, and hope they're unable to do the same while they prepare for warp travel."

>Orders?
>Push the Engines. Morix must not escape.
>Maintain Output. We've damaged our engines before by trying to push them.
>Prepare to jump to warp after them. [either to escape with her or continue the chase]
>Transmit message to Morix.
>Turn back and rejoin the wolfpack in orbit.

"The ship's spirit is willing, Praise the Omnissiah!"
Yulem's voice echos across your command throne's vox as your crew all begin to feel the slight shift in acceleration, your ship's engines rumbling distantly through the ship.

>Tactical battle begins!

Red = enemy ship
Blue = your ship
Blue text = ship's name/Hull Points/Crew %/Morale %
Blue circle = your ship's maximum weapon range [not that you can not fire any weapons behind you, and only half of your guns can fire outside your frontal 90 degree arc]

Aurex Turn
Your ship is speed 10

Whoops, minor adjustment to one of these statements...

>Blue circle = your ship's maximum weapon range [not that you can not fire any weapons behind you, and only half of your guns can fire outside your frontal 90 degree arc]

should read...

Blue circle = your ship's optimal weapon range [6], you may fire at double this range [12] but at half strength [not that you can not fire any weapons behind you, and only half of your guns can fire outside your frontal 90 degree arc]

You must also move half of your base speed before you can turn, but your ship is able to turn up to 90 degrees.

by default, you MUST move at least half of your speed value each turn.

There are also multiple actions you may take during your turn...

>Manoeuver Actions [require skill tests]
Adjust Bearing - decrease min distance before turn
Adjust Speed - decrease min distance you must move this round
Adjust Speed & Bearing - combines above 2
Come to New Heading - allows ship to turn 2 times per turn, after min movement & at max movement
Disengage - flee battle
Evasive Manoeuvers - help avoid enemy fire, but apply same penalty to your own shooting

>Extended Actions
Active Augury - Scans the area
Emergency Repairs - repair damaged/depressurised/unpowered Components
Flank Speed - gain additional movement
Focused Augury - detailed scan of 1 target
Hail the Enemy - Communicate with another ship
Jam Communications - stops target from sending vox signals
Lock on Target - Bonus to BS tests vs target ship with 1 weapon
Prepare to Repel Boarders - Bonus vs enemy boarding actions
>>
>>29351539
Advance, scan the target, and be prepared to fire upon her the moment they are within weapon's range!

she would have already told them, the person who got her to defect would have contact to the navy, thats how these thigns work, you don't just defect and randomly turn up going "Hey guys, I know I'm a pirate and you've never seen or heard of me, but I'm totally defecting okay?"

>>29352176
Answer the hail, we have to figure out what the fuck is going on, but i'm leaning towards not pushing our engines, we've legitimately had serious fucking problems when doing so and can claim they are not at 100% which meant Morix got away
>>
>>29352459

Morix's voice is oddly soft across the vox, which you have routed to the Captain's throne in the event she says something that might upset your crew. Elise listens as well, without so much as giving you a glance for permission.
"Percius. Come to take me up on my offer and run away together? I'm sure Lord Wilson will find it romantic."

>Note! This conversation is taking place during Morix's turn, and will not have any impact upon your own unless you order it to.

>Response?
>>
>>29352577
"I'm not sure what Lord Wilson will think of your betrayal, but it will be anything but romantic, I can't let you go without putting up a fight Morix, Wilson would space us all if he thought we aided your escape."

>>29357851
>continue "hunting" them down.
with the way your flip flopping around I have no idea what this means, and with our interactions with Morix in the past, I'm inclined to let her make good her escape, because she is running to the navy, and we ain't ready for a fight like that, and who knows, we may run across her later and can use a favor

But give warning shots or close misses
>>
>>29356181
why would we want to warp and chase her if we're letting her go? once she is gone, this location is compromised, which means we need to get back to the planet, inform Lord Wilson of our efforts to hunt her down and our failure to catch her before she warped away, pack up everything we can, and move on.

warping after her is the point of no return, once we do that, we are not turning back or letting her get away, if we do warp, it will likely be months before we can return here, and the only acceptable way will be to return with Morix's head on a platter

for fucks sake, think things through before you ruin all of our plans

just a reminder, but your current location is quite a bit out of the way. It took you over 140 days to fly from Celentis to Wilson's Refuge.

>flashback...

Handing you a dataslate with an updated map, your Navigator smiles. "The grid represents distances that, given calm warp conditions, an average ship will take approximately a week to traverse according to the wider materium. My house's markers for star systems are fairly simple, as well. We represent the systems with a central orb, an orbital ring and a planetary body upon the orbital at a 3'oclock position. Gray systems have yet to be explored by ourselves or allies, while green 'star' orbs represent systems we've explored and have information upon. Orbitals are green if we have confirmed friendly parties within the system, while red is used to mark systems with potentially or overtly hostile parties. Planetary bodies follow a similar color code, though they often are a summary of multiple planetary bodies within the system itself. In rare cases such as 'The Corridor' the orbital and planet are black due to the lack of stellar objects within the system."

"As you can see, Lord Wilson's position is roughly 20 weeks from our current position, 19 units to the right and 1 down. We can expect to experience roughly 12 days upon the ship, while the materium experiences 140 days."

Elise gives you a measured glance as you give your orders, Navigator Veritas moving toward her own command throne with a simple nod. Returning your XO's glance, you motion towards the crew. "Miss Eberhardt?

"My apologies, Captain" she nearly whispers to you, then clears her throat politely and barks your orders to the crew.
"All hands brace for hard retro burn and prepare the ship for warp travel! Miss Noda! Cut the engines and prepare to burn retro thrusters on my mark!"
"Helm awaiting command!" hollars Kihomi.
"Sound brace!" A shrill alarm sounds throughout the ship, and you watch the bridge crew brace themselves upon the objects nearest them. "Mark!"
You can see the retro thrusters firing in the void through the bridge's various cameras and viewports, white-hot propellant sparkling beautifully as you feel yourself slide forward from your command throne as it vibrates beneath you.

Shortly after, alarms sound to warn of imminent warp travel. Two of your dorsal macrocannon turrets fire their loaded payload, the crew must have loaded the weapons early and wisely thought to not risk warp travel with the guns loaded.

Enginseer Yulem reports that you'll need longer than normal to charge the warp drive's capacitors as her techpriests struggle to soothe the plasma reactors' spirits after so long providing additional power to the engines.

"It looks like Morix may get away after all, Captain. Perhaps the Emperor does not favor us today" states Elise.

"Or perhaps he favors Captain Morix today, Miss Eberhardt" retorts Navigator Veritas.

As your ship seals it's viewports and lighter bays with massive, armored shutters in preparation for the coming journey, Elise leans toward you and adjusts your hat slightly. "We should have a word, Captain" she whispers.
"You're forgetting yourself, Captain Aurex. Can't have your hat be falling off your head after a little retro burn." she says for the crew to hear.

Legit, what is our plan here? Why are we bothering to keep chasing her through the warp if we're eventually just going to let her get away. We'd be better suited just running back to our base to help the evacuation before Navy forces start bearing down on us - forces which I assume are already on their way.

The familiar feeling of reality being torn asunder beyond your ship's Gellar field churns your stomach all too soon as your ship continues after Captain Morix, Navigator Veritas confirming that she can still sense the ship. As the bridge crew is relieved by a few of the Navigator's men, you beckon Elise into the plotting room. The chamber door is barely closed when your XO strikes you with a sharp slap. "Get your fucking head on straight, Percius. First you tell me you let Morix go on Wilson's ship, then you risk crippling our engines just to get her into range of our guns? Is it what happened with your sister earlier or did you lose it somewhere between letting Morix go and telling me as much?" Elise seems torn between anger and concern as she speaks, though her eyes maintain the sharp edge that you've come to know from her. "If you lose it in combat, you're going to get us all killed or worse."

With an audible sigh, she takes a seat at the plotting table and begins pulling up star maps and sensor information from the bridge. "She seems to be heading rimward from Wilson's Refuge, which means she isn't likely to be linking up with any of Battlefleet Paxia's patrols unless she doubles back toward where we entered the Sector."

>Response?

>>29371028
>I don't know Elise! Maybe I lost it with Synne, maybe I lost it when a friend was torn apart by lasbolts meant for me. But we're between a rock and a hard place. If we just let Morix go then Wilson will start asking questions. He's just been betrayed for Emperor's sake, he might shoot all of us for a merest possibility of being complicit, however, if we keep chasing Morix we run the chance of blowing the engines, and even if we do stay on her tail could get torn apart by her weapons.

"We were supposed to get that information at the meeting that this little event interrupted, but both systems are said to be swarming with orks that don't seem to be able to escape the systems for now, Emperor willing. The ones nearby were to be scouted by the veteran captains, but we didn't get the information from them yet, either... Emperor damn it." Elise makes a few marks upon a dataslate and hands it to you. "I've marked roughly the direction Morix seems to be heading, and from the rumors we heard in Paxia, I'd guess that Labado's status as a 'gateway' system means there should be systems for us to find prey within that rough area."

"How do you figure that?"

"I actually put your sisters to work" smiles Elise. "We could head directly to Labado and hide among the traffic there while we search for signs of nearby systems, attempt to buy or bribe some more maps into our hands, or we could just drop somewhere in the void and search from there. Of course, I'm certain you'll have an idea or two of your own."

"Sounds like a fairly solid plan, Percius. I believe Yulem said we'd have the results of the scrap void suits we collected in Paxia in a few days; we could collect some volunteers from the crew to form some extra armsmen platoons with them."

Fourteen hours later you're roused from the mess by one of Veritas' men. "Captain Aurex, Miss Veritas requests your presence upon the bridge." With a sigh, you push the remainder of your meal toward a rather happy Keller. Tes had cooked up a damn good meal, too.

The vox of your command throne crackles to life as you depress the activation rune. "Report, Miss Veritas."

"My apologies, Captain Aurex. It would seem that Captain Morix's lead upon us was too great, and I've lost their trail."

"Nothing you could do, Miss Veritas. Would it be possible to plot a course toward Labado and the passage we took to enter this Sector? Miss Eberhardt and I believe that we'd best return to Lord Wilson with something as a prize, instead of empty handed. We've even picked out coordinates for our hunt to begin at."

"I believe I will be able to do so, Captain. If you'd provide my man with the coordinates?"

Handing the dataslate from earlier to Veritas' man, he quickly inputs the information into the ship's helm.

"I believe it will take approximately thirteen days for the ship to travel to these coordinates, and approximately one-hundred and sixty days will pass in our absence. Shall I proceed?"

You spread your time out between your father's map and the various tasks that have kept you occupied for countless wrap journies: combat training, various visits to your officers, refreshing walks through parts of the ship, and you even find time to give a few reassuring talks to some of the crew.

Chief Enginseer Yulem has been busy maintaining both the ship's systems and working on the scrap voidsuits you collected earlier in your journey.
Elise Eberhardt seems overwhelmed with her duties, but still finds time to tend to her little still project.
Navigator Veritas is quite busy guiding the ship through the warp...
Master-at-Arms Keller Lorisit has been bored lately, but word that he'll get to lead the armsmen into battle has him running your armsmen through drills.
Voidmaster Noda seems to have taken up wood carving, and seems to be punishing her subordinate from earlier by making him clean up the scraps.
Chief Medicae Orsola Magnus has been studying various samples taken from your expedition to Lord Wilson's world between her duties.
Your sister Alica has been spending quite a bit of time with both Elise and Miss Yulem, assisting their various duties. She seems to have impressed the techpriestess with her sewing ability.
Your sister Synne refuses to speak to you, though Tes assures you that she's fine and just needs some time to collect herself.
Aurex's Originals are happy to hear they'll have a chance to earn some wealth in combat, with Ana and Tes talking about what kind of men they'd enjoy 'capturing' aboard another ship.

By the end of the journey you've spent nearly two entire days of frustration with the map your father left to you, though you have come to the conclusion that it isn't an intact map, but part of a larger whole. You still have no idea where exactly the damned thing depicts, however. A planet? Moon? Solar system? Subsector? Sector? Sectors? For all you know, it could be showing you Terra itself and you'd be none the wiser.

Exploration!

During exploration your ship will remain at it's current location [though it will actually move around the edge of a system if located within one] and use everything from passive augur readings to actual telescopes to survey the surrounding void for nearby star systems. Each scan requires 1 week to complete, so watch your supply reserves!

All Scan tests are against Navigate-Stellar + Scholastic Lore - Astromancy.

>Scanning Options
360° Scan - Highest penalty to search, but all-around search.
180° Scan - Lesser penalty
90° Scan - Minor penalty
45° Scan - No penalty
22.5° Scan - Minor bonus

>Arc Options
You may base your arcs either centered or between any of the points in the image.

>Bonuses/Penalties/Auto-fail
Bonuses are often in the form of equipment used, character skills, system traffic, and distance from systems. For example, the Passive Augurs on your ship grant the ship's detection bonus to scans. If a system has been seeing heavy traffic for a long enough period of time, you may spot drive flares from ships in addition to the star's light.
Penalties are often in the form of a system's features or location. For example, an anomalous star that burns a deep purple and very distant will be more difficult to detect than a system with a bright, vibrant star. Systems in a nebula are more difficult to detect, as well.
Auto-fail only occurs when your search area is empty of star systems.

After two weeks of training the rabble you plan to call armsmen, Enginseer Yulem hurries toward you excitedly. "Captain! I've located a star system, and several drive flares eminating from it. The flares are undoubtedly over a year old, but with it's proximity I believe it is a waypoint for ships moving deeper into the sector."

In little time you've summoned the other officers to the plotting room, gathering them around as you bring up the new system upon the table's map. "So, what do you think? Shall we go hunting?"

Keller slams his fist upon the table and bellows his approval and something about showing the rest of you what Sly Marbo is all about. Kihomi and Elise both have their hands upon their faces in short order at the spectacle, while both Yulem and Magnus seem excited about the prospect of seeing the system itself. Miss Veritas simply double-checks the data available to you. "This system doesn't seem to be in your stated scan arc, Miss Yulem."

Advinessa and Orsola both frown, or at least you think Orsola is frowning under her deep hood, and your chief enginseer seems to review something in her mind. "It... would seem that my first scan resulted in a miscalculation... I may have scanned the wrong section of-" Orsola interrupts Yulem. "Chief Enginseer discovered a system's presence. Objections to this event are illogical."

"Good enough for me! Let's get to raiding!" smiles Keller.

"I project that we'll experience approximately two days at warp, Captain, while three weeks actually pass." States your Navigator.

"Come on, boss! Give the go already!" urges Keller.

unexpected call into work. Will continue and give a bit more detail in ~5 hours.

System has 2 barren planets scalded by the nearby star in the inner cauldron, 2 worlds in the habitable zone, and 3 clusters of asteroids in the outer reaches of the system.

Ship contacts:
3 contacts, 1 of them large, orbit the 1st world in the habitable zone.
2 contacts seem to be conducting mining operations or exploration of asteroid clusters. Possible repairs or attempts to resupply water?
1 contact is large and seems to be at the far edge of the system and using a search pattern. Possibly to search for nearby systems?
1 contact orbits the 2nd world of the habitable zone.

Vox signals from the ships in orbit of each world suggest that each is using a different set of encryption, but no signs of maneuvering.

"I see targets; Let's get one!" urges Keller.

"We need to pick our target carefully, Keller" chides Elise. "It looks like we've got two contacts that likely weigh in as cruiser class vessels, two smaller vessels orbiting the first planet of the habitable zone with one of the larger contacts, a contact distorted slightly by the second planet in the habitable zone, and a pair of weaker contacts conducting operations within different asteroid clusters. None of them seem to care that we've entered the system, or they're all asleep."

"We're distant enough from all of them to attempt a silent run, especially those in the asteroid clusters and the lone ship above the second world." Yulem drags her finger across the plotting table map, pointing to the planet and asteroid clusters in turn. "The stellar features they're operating near can be used to blind their augurs to us. The trio of ships around the other planet would likely result in one of them detecting us, and possibly sounding an alarm."

"Maybe we'd be lucky and one would think we're still an Imperial vessel! We'd be upon them with their pants down!" Keller seems to be getting far too into his ideas.

I mean, a mining vessel might be built to deal with them but we aren't.
>>
>>29396766

Do note that Enginseer Yulem was saying that -you- could hide your approach using the planet, so you wouldn't be detected upon your approach. Though yes, you would be blind until you saw the enemy ship on the horizon. All ships in orbit of planets seem to be holding a stationary position, however.

Just clearing up any confusion that might have been.

>>29397079
You could also do something like this, and use your passive augurs to ID the contacts before making your move. You'll use up more days, depending upon your course and risk spooking other ships if they got too close, but you'd have a decent advantage IDing the contacts vs them IDing you, silent running or not.
>>
>>29397094
Asteroids both allow you to make use of practical cover to block LOS and hurt if you fail to avoid them.
>>
>>29397225
To be honest I'd rather hit one of the mining vessels ASAP and haul away whatever minerals it has before the larger ships can get to us. What does everyone else think?
>>
>>29397247
Note that the vessels are not confirmed as mining vessels, and if they are in fact mining vessels, they're likely the size of your vessel or larger. You'd not be able to escape with anywhere near their full capacity, if they are in fact mining vessels.

There is also a chance that the contacts are simply using an asteroid to conduct field repairs, using lighters to prospect for resources, collecting ice to restore water reserves, or they could even be lurking pirates!
>>
>>29397225

Some passive sweeps to get a little more info about our potential playmates sound good to me, even if there is a little risk.
>>
>>29389409
>1 contact orbits the 2nd world of the habitable zone.

Lets go for this one, its out of the way of the others and close to us and the edge of the system. And its likely not aligned with the others .
>>
So, what I'm seeing...

[ ] Go for the contact in the bottom-left asteroid cluster
[ ] Move toward lone contact above planet, ID, and make choice after ID.
[ ] Passive Augur scans to ID a target from range
[ ] Other plan

I assume all of these will be during a silent running attempt.

Please vote quoting this post.

Okay, I would like to try and ID that large target up north just to see who/what we are dealing with here. Might be a interesting target if we can catch them with their pants down.

If target proves to be too hot I say go after that one near the planet on the right.
>>
>>29397711
[x] Move toward lone contact above planet, ID, and make choice after ID.
>>
>>29397740
You can't ID any contacts from your current distance. If you look at the distance between your ship and the lone contact at the planet, roughly 1/4th of that distance is your maximum range for anything more than 'small, roughly you, large, ohfuckrun'
>>
>>29397795
I meant to add "Move closer" in there somewhere.

This plan will not allow you to use the planet for cover.

Kihomi brings the ship onto course with a light touch, pointing your prow toward the edge of the nearest planet and doing her best to conceal the flare from your drives firing. Enginseer Yulem is quick to begin shutting down non-essential systems, including enough lights that many of your crew begin making use of handheld lamps and glowsticks that really should be saved for an emergency. Even the life sustainers are cut back slightly, raising the ambient temperature of your vessel slowly but steadily over the next few days. On the tenth day in-system, you're collected by a crewman to come to the bridge.

Your officers quickly gather in the plotting room as Kihomi pulls up the augur readings. The planet you're on course with seems to be verdant and your augurs suggest that the world is likely covered almost completely in thick, jungle-like terrain; though for now you only see an estimation of the planet's elevations. It seems to have quite a few mountain and hill ranges, but that could be the result of a jungle canopy scattering signals slightly. Your eyes are quickly drawn to the ship that flickers into life, holding orbit just above the planet's horizon from your current location.

"Augur readings suggest that the contact is approximately 2.1km in length and roughly 400 meters abeam, so she's got some tonnage on our vessel. She's a transport class of some sort, though we don't have her exact identification in our database" explains Kihomi. "What we have detected, however, is that she's boasting what appears to be a twin set of dorsal macrocannon batteries, and that she doesn't quite seem to have the bulk of a Jericho-class pilgrim vessel. I suspect she's packing a better belt of armor, however, due to what we can detect of her inherent gravity."
>>
>>29399606

"So can we take her?!" blurts Keller. "The boys are ready to storm her, Percius! Just give the word!"

Elise sighs, but Kihomi stops her from speaking. "What is most interesting, however, is the fact that we believe the ship has been launching and recovering nearly a dozen different craft to and from the planet's surface. If they're putting crew down there in the numbers I think they're putting down... they're likely in poor condition to fight."

"It also means we'll get less loot since they're putting what we'd be looking to steal onto the planet." points out Alica.

Most of your officers exchange glances and erupt into a cheer at your news, though Kihomi and your sister restrain themselves.

"Will we be altering course to come at them from behind the planet or maintain our course?" asks Kihomi. "We're near enough that a course change might give us away, but they could detect us with a routine augur sweep around them, Captain."

"The other question is if we'll hit them with our guns to soften their crew up before boarding, or just go straight for the assault, Captain."

>Orders?
[ ] Change course, use the planet to mask your approach.
[ ] Maintain course, you'll have the speed advantage and a turn could give you away.

[ ] Soften them up with the guns, risk critical damage to target.

Approach from the ventral arc, stay there with superior manoeuvrability, don't let the dorsal batteries get LOS. Get in close and board. We can't have that ship being crippled whilst trying to escape from big ships.

Three more days pass, additional systems being modified one by one in order to better your ship's chances of remaining undetected. The crew seems to do fine, simply shedding additional layers of clothing as the ship grows warmer. Alica seems to have some reservations about such an act, but soon even she is shedding the typical layers of clothing worn by the nobility of your homeworld. Your rookie armsmen have been split into two forces to be better managed, though they've ceased training efforts to avoid injuries before the coming battle.

"Hey, Percius!" yells Keller, flagging you down in one of the corridors. "We need to talk about this fight and if we're going to have any of the command officers leading armsmen."

>Armsmen forces
Company 1: 300 souls, Carapace, Veterans, Skill 60
+ Ana, Tes [Aurex's Originals]

+ Ketur [Aurex's Originals]
Company 4 'Rookies': 707 souls, Flak, Green, Skill 30
Company 5 'Nuggets': 707 souls, Flak, Green, Skill 30

>Veteran Armsmen Officers
Percius Aurex
Elise Eberhardt, XO
Keller Lorisit, Master-at-Arms

>Assign leadership?

Percius Aurex leading companies 1
Elise Eberhardt, XO leading company 2 and 4
Keller Lorisit, Master-at-Arms leading company 3 and 5
>>
>>29400866
Send the 1400 rookies in first to soften them up, draw fire and establish frontlines. Then move in with the veteran companies, applying the necessary force where needed.

Kellar moves in with the Rookies, concentrating on getting them to establish a cohesive line rather than actually charging in.

Then Elise takes Company 1 and reinforces Kellar's battle line at the key points, and gets the line moving forwards. Whilst Percius takes Companies 2 & 3 in a swift forging assault to get behind the enemy lines and barricades.

What do we think?
>>
>>29400866
I say Percius: 1st company
Elise: 3rd company
Keller: 2nd company

Ask Keller who seems like leader materiel out of the Greens and have two of them incharge of 4th & 5th companies. Got to them let bloody themselves so that they can become stronger.

>>29400962

You manage to find Synne in time for a hug and a promise to come back in one piece, but it seems you miscalculated the time you had remaining, and the alarms sound for your crew to prepare for combat. "Stay in your quarters with Alica until it is over. Sometimes the enemy attempts to counter-board."

"All hands brace for impact!" Yells Elise. Someone has the sense to sound the collision alarm a moment before your ship's prow scrapes along the port flank of your target. The sound is deafening and terrible, and you're certain that a multi-meter section of a hooded statue just went flying past the bridge. Eventually the ship's agony ends and your ship's defensive turrets begin to fill the void with a mixture of las-beams, munitions and explosions as they attempt to disable the enemy's turrets and cause enough chaos for your armsmen and crew to swarm into the target ship.

Keller's voice carries across the voxnet with a whoop. "Alright boys, prepare to board!"

Serious people this is not done. Ever. You do not get both the XO and the Captain to lead assaults.

Usually its the XO, and the Captain is with the ship or viceversa if its a ballsy Captain.

But the XO or the Captain should always be on the ship, so that thee vessel it is under experienced ship command.
>>
>>29407860
yeah, I say if we want to get our pirate on, fine, but leave the XO on the ship to handle things while we're away
>>
>>29407860
>>29407911

You have plenty of officers that can hold down the bridge, and only 3 with the experience to (most likely) keep them alive on the front lines.

I'll bring it up at the start of next thread, though
