My people, to me! It is again the sacred time, and we relate the history of our clan in keeping with tradition.

In the last two years, the clan has hosted travelers from distant Ralios (earning two treasures in payment), sent a raiding party under Derik's command to attack Praxian Sable Riders and has burned down many Jenestni homesteads in retaliation for their sins, their continued existence chief among them. We also avoided a feud with the Lysangs and received a promptly ignored warning from Cragspider.

We gave our farmers gifts worth several hundred cows, in exchange for an end to certain complaints lodged against the clan and the weaponthanes. The peace is welcome, will likely be brief.

Hope your holidays went well. Feels nice to hear the music again; and wiping the Jenestni from the face of the game will also feel nice.

We had a question in the last thread about the scripting language used to make it: it's called OSL (Opal Scripting Language, Opal being the game's codename during development). It's a proprietary scripting language used in just a few places, KoDP being the only game. If you're curious, Google "King of Dragon Pass Opal" and go to the blogspot link.

It's now Fire season, so give me two actions.

I checked our nobles, and we've gotten TWO more Issarians. Their stats are mediocre, but they're better than Odaylans. We want some Vingans, Eurmali or Humakti though.
>>
>>29354716
Heroquest to boost their stats, then?
>>
>>29355208
I suppose we could at that. But you can only do one heroquest a year*, and there are other people who could use a divine empowerment. And other blessings to be had, as well. Plus Issaries' heroquest requires the loss of a treasure if you don't want to have the quester injured afterward, which is better than Lhankor Mhy (always causes injury) but only just.

Any action suggestions? I'll explore the tula and send a useless noble to Cragspider otherwise.

*with a reasonable expectation of success

Anyway, it's now Earth season. Give me two actions, keeping in mind that we'll want to run a heroquest this year. Maybe Uralda; we've got our worshiper back.

>>29356377
The Orlanthi pantheon is the Storm Tribe; gods sworn to Orlanth the Storm King. Our primary deity is Elmal the Loyal Thane, god of the sun, defense and horses. Like in other polytheistic religions, we venerate all of our deities, even if we focus on our favorites.

Of course, there are enemy gods: members of other pantheons, and the enemy gods of the Orlanthi. You don't worship them unless you want to live in interesting times (and be hated by decent Orlanthi everywhere).

>>29356482
Elmal is the original Sunbro.
>>
>>29356504
What do hero quests involve? Do seasons have a special effect on our actions?
>>
>>29356504

Since we're raiding in the Dark Season, could we do the Uralda heroquest now without negatively affecting crops or stuff?

For second action, let's go trading for more treasures.
>>
>>29356526
Heroquests are reenactments of famous mythological events. While some clan members put on costumes and perform the story, the clan's mages conduct secret rituals to push the questers into the realm of the gods, where the story comes to life again.

They're VERY powerful magic, success (and failure) can alter the destiny of a clan. We do one once a year, but in the setting they're reserved for momentous occasions and the direst of straits.

The seasons do effect our actions. In Sea season you plant crops, and in Earth season you harvest them. Raiding or warring vexes the gods of these seasons, and takes people away from the fields, so the harvest suffers. People raid during Fire season instead. During Dark season the weather is so bad few people can go far from home, and Storm season is unpredictable. The weather can be balmy or as bad as Dark season.

Sacred Time is also a season, but you don't play through it. During this time people conduct rituals to ensure the universe works for the year, and it's not just superstition, Gloranthans are actually recharging the universe. In game, it's time to find out what your harvest will look like, get an omen for the year, and spend magic points on buffs.

>>29356656
I'll switch the order; I don't know if it's a bug or a feature but heroquesting uses up both actions for that season if you do it first.

Heroquests don't negatively effect anything; you can do them whenever.

This. The more aggressive Humakti ducks are reasonably tough, but no more so than a typically aggressive enemy clan. What happens is that eventually they go crying to their beastman buddies. Who then proceed to rally their kingdom's forces and grind your clan under their hooves.

We're sending equine parasites to the Blue Spruces to make them like us, so we can raid their new neighbor easier.

>>29380241
Nothing obvious. It's a behind the scenes relationship bump with their faction though.

Ah damn, it was 1 and 1 and Eurmal told me to shmooze with the Blue Spruces. We can gift the Kardavi later, it's not like we'll run out of horses.

That'll have to wait, because now it's Jenestni open season!

As it happens, the Blue Spruces are the mad chief clan. As you might expect, their chiefs have a tendency of going--or being--crazy. They want us to bleach their gene pool, by raiding and killing.

Shall we play doctor on the Blue Spruces?

Do Issaries to settle the Vostang feud, letting us narrow our focus on the Jenestni even further?
>>
>>29382806

We could settle the Argmanrralksjdlaksdjfalskdjf feud. While they were sneaky backstabbing gits, they're designated as the "warrior clan", and will thus cause a lot of trouble in combat situations even if we outnumber them severely and outfight them.

We have yet to do Chalana Arroy Heals the Scars. In part this is in the blind hope that we get a worshiper of that goddess to perform the quest for us.

Orlanth and Aroka is a pretty good quest, we've almost got everything worthwhile from it though. There's one treasure left, the Widebrew, which increases the power of the "Kill as many as possible" battle tactic.

It's a good idea to have some disposable treasures on hand, like the Sorcerous Implements or Spirit Fetches, just so you can successfully resolve this event. He won't trade Tiger Eye Necklaces either, so it's time to cut and run.

when canbwe expect the next thread? also, I'm so happy that you didnt post during the holidays and that you post threadsbon Twitter.

Next thread will be Friday or Saturday. I'm meeting with friends on one of those days, so I'll play the game on the other day.

I would have liked to run during the holidays, but those were difficult for various reasons. Still, we're in good position to finish the game, Eurmal willing and my schedule permitting.
