You are otto schulte, a twelve year old girl on her way to destiny - you are a student of the scholia progenium on besvir, and a prospect to become one of the selected officials to one day lead the great imperial armies in battle, if you survive. Little is know of your past - you only know what your uncle(whom you've got no blood relation to) told you: They where charged with your care before you where old enough to crawl. For as long as you can remember you've lived amongst the stars onboard shiftships traveling the interstellar void of the immaterium.

You've arrived at the scholia progenium of which you where assigned, unfortunately so have Nikkobar the big oaf - a bully of whom you meet just before coming to the scholia, and his gang of misfits! Not all is bad, you've also meet the more friendly planetborn Angelina whom the planet mold seems to have left alright. There is also the "twins" to worry about, and how to survive the practicals, and as ever the ongoing mission to rid the world of your accursed first name "otto" - a administratum fuck up that left you with a boys name.

Your story is only just beginning.

Last week we got to the practical, ran in the forest and took down a lumbering beast.

"Why is it always little girls?" - Unkown Xeno Commander.

Roll rules:

Lowest of first three rolls for things the character is skilled at doing.
Median of first three rolls for things the character is "capable" at.
Highest of first three rolls for things the character is utterly shit at.

You have to "beat" your stats (which for now are hidden by popular demand, this may change) so low rolls are good.

Cont post explained:If there is a post marked at the end with "cont" its becouse your QM is lazy, and can't type fast - or becouse he wants to give you the option to jump into the current events, or offer opinions, if none are offered he'll continue as normal

Dark. It was dark. You had awoken moments ago, finding yourself starring into the ominous sky, far above the clouds had not given up their claim to the heavens, rain still pouring down on your face. The sun appears to have not yet graced besvir with its light, or perhaps it did and you slept through it? That though made you feel no better. You wanted to move, get up and away from the ground, do something about your hurting arm, and ribs. The only problem was your legs. You could feel them, crushed underneath the massive gray form that rested across them. You could wiggle your toes, but you where stuck. You dared another glance at the gray mass, feeling your fingers tighten around the boltpistol in your hand instinctively. It was massive, several times larger then a man. A distorted parody of life. You could see a head, or what remained of it. A tiny thing sitting on top of the creatures mangled form, you could not place it well - what little the bolt had let remain was ruined beyond recognizing. Its body reminded you of a long lean wolf, but bigger - and naked, no fur adorned its form. Only, its front "legs" (one which rested over your lower body) seemed almost human. You could only guess it ran on all fours, raising on hind legs to strike - like what happened to you.

Its flesh was dull gray and seeped with a green ichor from the wounds you punched into its leathery hide, its innards partially blasted out of its form, spilling out into the grass and roots around you, like some parody of a holiday decoration. A sickening hiss from somewhere inside of the ruined flesh force you to look away again. You saw them before, large white maggots crawling inside of their dead host.

You need to get out of here.

You grit your teeth, trying to rid the gray mass from yourself. Groaning in pain as your muscles protest at being used again so forcefully. Your side flares up in pain like an inferno and you could swear something inside snapped,
adrenalin pumps in your veins as you begin to realize the mass is not moving - panic grips you as hidden reserves of energy flares through your body. You're -not- dying here, not like this. Finely, the lumbering arm begins to move an inch,
then another before you finely manage to push it aside enough for your legs to free themselves. Placing a hand over your face you pant, an unwelcome cold assaulting your liberated legs. Getting up takes time, and you slip several times in the mud.

A quick scan of the area around you reveals nothing much, you could barely see more then a few arms lengths in either direction - and while your eyes have become adjusted to the low-light only tree's surround you, and the dark seems to have stolen away all color and form in the world.

Picking up your data slate from the ground you use its tiny green shimmer to shine some brightness into the world.

Putting the heavy metal gun at your feet you open your jacket, struggling for a moment to get the zipper working despite the mud caking it in thick layers, you've got to know: How bad is it? Lifting the edge of your undershirt you twitch in sudden pain, hoisting up the slate to shed some light over it. Even in the green metallic glow of the slates machine spirit you can tell its bad. Your entire side is blue, swollen and bruised and twisting your side hurts more then getting shot by that training las. You feel tears welling up in your face as the realization of your situation starts to hit home. You can't see the damage to your head still, but your arm is equally bruised.

You push down the shirt again and fish up your armaments before turning.. that way, north. The way this thing did not come from. The tears makes it harder to see, and almost every step makes your legs hurt, stumbling constantly in the low light you snivel to yourself, what are you going to do? Just then, something catches your attention.. the sound of water running. You remember there being a river that runs right through the center of the valley!

You perk up, a faint glimmer of hope in the far distance enough to put some power in your steps again. If you can find the water, perhaps you can find your way home? Moments drag on as you push yourself through the undergrowth,
once again thanking the lucky stars for your boots easing your travel considerably. Trying to dry the tears of your face serves no real purpose other then smear more mud in your face.
You're covered in it by now from head to toe - the endless stream of water from the sky having turned everything into a brown sludge.

At last you notices the tree's growing fever, and before long you stand before it. The river (you can barely make out the other side of it in the darkness, even if you judge it to only be around ten meters across) is pitch dark. Its water almost like moving ground as opposed to anything else. While standing there taking it all in you freeze. A loud sound breaking the forest quiet. A howl pierce through the night. You can feel your skin prickle, it came from where you left the creatures gray mass... where there more of them?

You fish out the map, thanking who-ever decided to cover it with plastica as you brush some of the mud away... according to this, heading along north with the river will take you to the Scholia.. but its far.
Heading south should take you to a small village.. you can't tell where exactly on the river you are, nor which is closest.

Your tired, dead beat. You want to sleep. Actually, you've wanted to sleep for ages. Your body simply won't keep moving like t his for much longer. Finding a nearby tree you collapse hard on the ground, groaning in pain as your side flares up again.
Still the ground is surprisingly comfortable, letting your head fall back against the old gnarled tree that stands guard over the river you close your eyes, trying to find sleep. Its first after about half a minute you realize your hand is gripped so tightly
around the boltgun that your knuckles must be turning white, trying to relax you slowly loosen your grip around the piece, almost feeling a sense of longing from it before you drift into the land of the dreamers.

You awake what feels moments later to the sound of someone shouting at you. "Oi!" "'Ey, lil girl!"

Opening your eyes, and being assaulted by the burning intensity of a hot star you are forced to look away, the sun is up - and the world seems much brighter, the clouds in the sky (what little you can tell from behind half shut eyes) bright white.
"Oi, you - ye be livin over thar?" turning to the sound of the man you notice a man - or rather a group of men standing on top the deck of some manner of boat. Waving their hands at you "Oi, you alright?" their clothes are simple,
and the equipment of their - boat is an odd sight to see, several nets, rods with strings and hooks. You also notice the river is much larger then you'd anticipated while asleep.. at least thirty meter across, you sure are happy that you did not try and swim..

"Yes, I am alive - but I need help, where am I?" the men look amongst each other surprise on their faces before one of them turns to answer: "Yer on the river kid, Dolman's River."
Dolmans.. the river on your map did not actually say a name.. do planetborns usually name their rivers.. or did it just belong to a man called Dolman? Hopefully he's not upset about you using the river.
"..I've got a map, could you show me where I am more exactly?" you stammer as the men begin to steer the boat towards you, the unmistakable humming of a machine coming to life emanating from the ship.
Affirmative answers comes from the men as they take to shore, jumping of the boat to land, they are big - and all carry the same eyes and hair - suggesting the older of the four to be the rests father, or similar.
"Name's Malan, 'tis me wife's spawn - Tim, Tamik, and Romal" the older man states, pointing to each of the men in turn, the oldest growing old himself, the youngest seeming to be a very young man, probably in his twenties.

"My name is Schulte, Rangers talent - via dominatus" deciding to keep to the shorter version for the planetborns benefits. "I need help, could you show me where I am on this map?" repeating yourself.. just to make sure they get it...

"Right lass - how you ended up here anyway?" the older one says, grabbing the map as you offer it to him... the rest of the boys eye you up and down with a curious stare.. their simply dressed, brown loose fitting clothes,
must different from the quality cloth your own jacket is made of, you see no augmentations on any of them, nor any indication of mechanical attachment, no slates, no weapons... its odd seeing people so.. naked.
You do notice the youngest one peering at the black metal piece sticking out of your pants jackets inner pocket, only the handle viable for the world.

"Whut kinda name is that?" one of the other men ask, Tim - if you remember right, a high set brow and blue eyes looking down at you.
"'tis means she's one o' them fancy ladies you quagsmeller" another answers - Tamik, the tallest in the group, crossing his arms while nodding sagely.
"Oh ye' so full o' it I'll hammer ye in you gnarlhumper" the two brothers turns to look at each other "Ey, ye winna try runt?" "Bring it pine"

"Be quiet, both of ye!" their father bellows over his shoulder before looking back at the map "I am trying to read here!"
The younger one raises his neck slightly, eyes still fixed on the piece of metal on your body. His tiny beady eyes lighting up in an uncomfortable way.
You turn your side slightly, trying to hide the weapon away from the glares of the boy, "I am from the Scholia, got lost during a lesson - fell down a cliff in the woods and ended up here..."
The atmosphere changes instantly as you mention it. "Scholia?" the man mumbles as he lowers the map from his gaze. "They are sending lil' girls out now?"

Before you get the chance to react the men reaches behind their backs, pulling out short nasty looking blades from their belts. "Better gut it 'no dad, or more be comin'" Tim states.
"I kno'" the older man grunts, pulling out his own dagger - the short blades seems built for hooking.. their tips slightly bent- reminding you of the "Rusters" of your home ship.
Tiny daggers built for grabbing hold of old pieces of metal and tearing them off - some made a living doing this in the bowels of the ship.. you also know others made a living fighting with them.

"I-I've already shot one monster! Get back, or I'll take another - this is a bolt pistol right here - don't try anything!"

The Garm Pattern Service Bolt Pistol returns to its scared duty. It almost sings in your hands as you bring it up towards the massive lumbering old man approaching. The pain from your side ignored as you pull down the trigger of the bolter, and it roars to life, the three remaining bolt shells inside the gun exits out, the first cutting the man down straight through his abdomen, piercing him with such force it blows right through, before detonating moments later outside of his ruined flesh, throwing him to the ground - the other two continues, one blowing off a chest of one of the approaching men, the other continuing into the woods - its fury spent on foliage. A loud "click" emerges from the gun as you realize its clip is spent. The spare one stuck inside your jacket. Two men remain, stunned - covered in the gore of their allies.

You've bought a moment, grasping at your side with your free arm you feel the gun trailing towards the remaining two with almost a life of its own. Craving to be used again. You try not to look at the sickening display on the ground.

The punnishment for heracy is blamming reload to proceed blamming....perhaps. steal their boat after
>>
>>29439998
Shouldn't we get back to the foxhole? Orders are orders.
>>
>>29439998
>They probably don't know we're out of ammo.
The gun made a loud click, they probably know.
>>
>>29440030
Exactly. Orders are orders.

We reload, shoot these two, loot their boat for medical supplies / food, and then look for our fox hole.
>>

>>29440030
We've found people out here who apparently make it a habit to kill His servants. I say we force them to come with us to the Scholia and explain ourselves.

Letting them go might mean they come back prepared and getting back alone might look like we deserted our post, neither are good.
Trusting their directions would be stupid so we can't rely on finding our foxhole.
>>
>>29440030
I think here the priority is blamming heretics
>>
>>29440124
>We've found people out here who apparently make it a habit to kill His servants
They also made a reference to a "Major" of some sort. Sounds like there's some sort of organised heresy going on out here, we'll have to bring it up once we get back.
>>
>>29440124
>>29440161
Hmm, yes. Blaming the heretics for us abandoning our post is smart but what if any members of our squad survived?

You fish for the metal piece in your jacket, praying to the emperor in both his forms that they modly planet people don't know any better. Wincing in pain as you touch your wounded flank you pull out the spare clip. The two remaining boys seems to be snapping out of their trance, slowly - you guess you can't blame them, it was like that the first time you saw a man die. The gun once again seem to take a life of its own as you reload it, you've only ever done this on practice las guns, but somehow it seems to work out - the same button for eject is there. Pushing that sends the empty cartrige to the ground, and you jam your fresh one in, aiming it towards them "T.. Toss the daggers on the ground!" Grunting once from the sudden pain of yelling you try and stand.. its slow - but with the gun trailed on them they show no wish to assult you... "Drop them!"

"Witch! The youngest of them yells suddenly - hurling himself towards you, body first. Almost frothing from his mouth. This time, your not sure if the bolt pistol fired even before you had a chance to push the trigger, but another on of them blow up. His remains raining down over the last member of this "troop" Tamik.

Standing tall, but on unsteady legs, you level the gun on him. He stares at you dumbfunded, still clutching the tiny dagger in his hands.

"There is the map, show me where we are.. now" you shake the gun once for emphasis, reaching with your other hand inside your jacket.. your surprised at yourself for not crying, it hurts. It hurts more then anything has ever hurt in your life. The knife left behind it a trail of liquid fire craved in your flesh. But you can't seem to bring yourself to cry. Can tears dry out? Did you waste them all yesterday? Its hard to say.. your uncles words ringing in your ears "Just keep moving". Moving was all that was important. "Map, now" you state again, and the boy finely seems to catch a drift - his hands dropping the knife as he reaches towards the map "P-please nay' kill me. Please din't kill me - I.. I did not want to do a-anything!"

He sits down on his knees and brings the map up, pointing a finger towards its center - a spot on the river a decent way off from The Practical ground.. the river runs close to it. The foxhole is further away.. it would take you a lot of time to get there.. through the forest anyway. It seems you where moving towards the scholia all along. "N-now please, j-jist let me go - I wuz jist doin' w-what the major said." You could find your way from here.. but it hurt really bad to move.. still its the boy before you.. surrounded in the gore of his siblings.. its not as bad seeing it as last time you muse.. not quite as bad as when the red-clad man shot that boy, it was like being detached - like your emotions had run dry. Just keep moving.. that was all that was important.

"Who's this major!?" you yell, tried of all planetborns thinking you know everything that is going on and who everybody is - bet they could not even tell the difference between a cruiser and a light cruiser. Let alone seen one! "H-he's the one ye k-kno', fancy peep like ye - keeps us 'outa 'rouble with 'em scholia, we be'n livin' 'ere 'afore they came, been all nice, but one day they be sayin' we ain't be livin' 'ere no more - takin' our village for buildin' sellin' off to the Cogboys, major was one 'o ye lot, but 'he came helped us out.. but.. no one must kno, p-please jist l-let me go"

You groan slightly, and point towards the boy again. "On the boat, take me to the Scholia grounds." The boy looks up at you, confused for a moment before he sees the barrel again "P-please t-they c-caa- " "Now"
The two of you get onboard the tiny boat quite quickly - its a smaller vessel, built to comfortable allow four or five individuals their personal space and space for .. things like nets - what-ever they are for, but not much else.
Tamik moves towards the back of the "ship" trembling slightly as you keep the gun trailed on him, some manner of control mechanism seem to exist there, you'd wager its connected to the ships central spirit that is probably bellow you.
The tiny boat rocks to life soon thereafter, its harder to stand then you'd imaged, and it only takes you a few moments to release sitting on on of the boxes is probably for the best. Sinking down, and trying to ignore the pain in your chest
you sail towards the practical grounds.

>Loads of discussion tonight, which was great to read(you guys always crack me up) even if we had a slow start!

>Would love som feedback - what do you like/dislike about Commissar Quest?

>Like always I'll be around for awhile as I unwind for bed answering questions about commissar quest and life in general.

>Now onward to other points:

I've done some rehashing of the combat system that I intend to implement - you'll probably get to test it properly once we get into a mock battle - thing a Practical here. So I won't kill you off the first time.
The general idea will be that you'll still need to roll under your stats but that I'll be more clear of -which- stats we are talking about, and how you can improve them. Probably going with things like: Strenght, Agillity, Inteligence, Awarness, Willpower, Charisma, Weapon skill/Balistic skill

I am also thinking of implementing a hard crit-fail/Succeed, and possibilities to affect them, things like a bolter jamming if you roll a nat.100 or triggering a insta-kill if its a nat.1 Opinions?

Opinions? Things you'd like to see?

>Con

Example mock up battle:

Otto VS Goon!

Otto Health: 12/12

Goon Health 10/10

<Commissar attempting to write goes here>

>A: Shoot him(Balistic roll)
>B: Whack him with gun(Weapon skill roll)
>C: Run (Agillity roll)
>D: Hurl rock (Strenght roll)

>More combat!

>Reaction roll! (Shoot him! Agillity+Weapon)
>Toss him of you!(Strenght)
>Whack him in the noggin'(Weapon+strenght)

Something like that. Alternativly I've also been thinking of creating a crit table, meaning your not dead unless you lose all your HP(Read:Plotarmor) and then you start going up the crit table - see the warhammer RPG's that I am basing the system off (Not becouse I don't like others/have not played, but rather since its a Warhammer quest, and much of the work is done for me already)

I've been thinking about this actually and I might give you guys a fatepoint to spend - if you die, you get to pull a "No U!" card and somehow survive, but only once.
You may regain a fatepoint by doing something increadible. Like completing an imbosuburu challange. Tonight for instance your chances of survival was up there.
There where things in the forest, depending on your choices they could have killed you off.

Either way, should you die its game over. I might make another quest if there is interest for it however, since I can transfer the system from this to a new setting.

In short, try and stay alive.

One of the most important thing in RPG's for me is is a sense of potential danger, if you know you'll survive, where's the challange?
