You are Gertrude Pool, Sophomore Class President and new commander of Lafayette Girls Academy’s revived Tankery Team.

Shore leave in the French Port City in Cherbourg. You’ve actually been to France once as part of last year’s shore leave, but unfortunately your lack of knowledge regarding the language left you a bit wanting. NOT THIS YEAR. YOU ACTUALLY KNOW FRENCH.

That’s pushing it, but it’s a completely true statement.

You yawn as your stretch, getting the blood flowing and waking yourself up for today. No school, nothing really important to get done.

There’s a couple of things though: One, you could go into Cherbourg and just enjoy yourself.

Two: You could go to Walter Christie and pay them a visit.

Three: Maybe there is something important to be done today.

Anything you want done?

> Enjoy Shore Leave

Eh, nothing wrong with wanting to see what you could do as filler until the match arrives. You take a nice brisk shower, brush your teeth, wash your hair, get breakfast inside you, and finish off by getting dressed out into some casualware, that blouse and that skirt Anna picked out for you, to be precise.

You throw open the door and take in the French sunshine. You take a whiff and smell the salty sea air and the fruity scent of… well France. Guess you could say France is Lafayette Girls Academy’s spiritual home even. Not like anyone would particularly care about that though. You head on down to the ground level and-

Wait, what’s that sound? Sounds like a plane.

Of course, all that goes out the window when you end up ducking under the roar of a VERY low flying airplane.

It flies past the dorms, and you can actually tell what the plane is, a World War II fightercraft to be precise. The model escapes you though.

Kitten pokes her head out of the dorm. “The hell was that!?”

You say, “Plane.”

You rustle Kitten’s already bedridden hair. She’s clad in just a blouse and her underwear. “Morning champ. Sleep well?”

“I was,” she says, frowned. “We get buzzed or something?”

You nod. “Like something out of Top Gun. Only thing we’re missing is coffee getting all over those nice tits of yours.”

“Gee, thanks,” says Kitten tiredly.

Suddenly, Kitten’s next door neighbor pops out of her dorm in her yellow pajamas. Surprise, surprise, it’s Marina. “DID WE JUST GET BUZZED?!”

You nod. “Yeah.” You point to the plane, which is now circling overhead.

Marina gasps in childlike awe. “Oooohh! It’s a Curtiss P-40 Warhawk!” She walks over to you, grinning in amazement. “It must be from one of the local Skycraft teams! Ooooh! This is awesome! I gotta go wake Katya, Lidya, and Jenny!” She runs off to the other dorms.

By now, other Sophomores are exiting their dorms, groaning and mad that their morning sleep has been ruined. Lisa, Nancy, and Ramirez walk up to you, clad in their pajamas. “What the hell just happened?” asks Lisa.

You say, “We got buzzed by that Warhawk. Apparently Marina says it’s from one of the local Skycraft teams.”

Nancy nods. “Yeah, Great Britain, France, and Germany practice Skycraft extensively. It’s almost as popular as Soccer.”

Lisa nods. “Of course. So, we doing anything today, Boss?”

“Well,” you say. “I just wanted to enjoy ourselves on Shore Leave. How about we visit Cherbourg?”

Nancy nods, excited. “Oh! That sounds lovely! Let’s all get dressed and we can go!” You pull up your smartphone and then pull up some nice tourist attractions.

A nice spa would be good. You’ve never actually been to a spa before so you’re not entirely sure what goes on in those places. Something about mudbaths, massages, lemons on your eyes or some shit. Crazy.

You wait outside the dorm for a few minutes, then everyone returns, dressed out in some nice street clothes. Nancy in a white flowery dress, a black cardigan, and pantyhose. Lisa wearing a light blue blouse and some dark jeans with a nice flatcap on her head to go with it. Ramirez in some jeans, a red shirt, and a black vest. Kitten meanwhile has opted for the Tankery uniform.

You ask her, “Why not that cute little sundress Anna picked out for you?”

“Over my dead body.”

You roll your eyes. “Fine,” you say, then you turn to your staff. “Let’s take Cupid out for this, shall we?”

You all leave the dorms and head out for the Tankery HQ where your tanks are located.

“Oh, Nancy. Shouldn’t you be at mass this morning?”

Nancy says, “Chaplain Provoost excuses me from mass every now and again, mostly so I can get schoolwork done.”

Kitten asks, “He excuse you today?”

“Yep! Just so I can spend time with you all!” she says happily. You smile a little at that. “So, where are we going to head, President?”

You say, “I found a walk-in spa. Get our massages and our skins healthy… and stuff like that, I have no idea how spas work.”

Kitten says, “Neither do I.”

“Actually,” says Lisa. “I don’t think any of us have ever been to a spa.”

Ramirez asks, “You think we could use a tank as a steam room?”

You’re about to make a clever comment, but then say, “… That actually makes some amount of sense. It does get hot in those tanks doesn’t it?”

Nancy nods. “Very!”

“… We should totally try that sometime.”

Lisa asks, “We going to visit Walter Christie today? Much as their hobby irks us, they seem pretty friendly.”

“We might,” you say. “Actually, I wonder what their line up is going to be for the next match. Strange line up. SU-14-2, AVRE, M3 Lee CDL, etcetera.”

You all arrive at the warehouse. Before you actually mount up in your tank however, you hear a noise out of the far reaches of your ear. Suspicious.

“Something wrong, Boss?” You silence Lisa by holding your hand up. You take a walk to where you think you heard it. It was a bit faint, but it was definitely noticeable. Your crew follows you in silence.

You say, “I think I heard something.”

Nancy says, “Maybe it’s a burglar?”

“How could you burgle a tank, Nancy?” asks Lisa.

“It’s just a thought,” Nancy responds.

You slowly walk over to the source. The Panzer IV Ausf. C. You climb up the side of the hull, then open up the side turret hatch. Your curiosity becomes even greater as you see the entire Ace Crew stuffed into the turret basket, apparently playing a game of poker. You can see some foodstuffs as well in places where shells would normally go, along with blankets and other items. They all look at you, nonchalant.

“Perrine tried to come for you all, didn’t she.”

Michelle nods. You also notice that the Aces are still clad in their Tankery uniforms from last night as well. Michelle says, “She called me in the morning, said she’d be coming. So we all grabbed some supplies and hunkered down in the Panzer IV until she left.”

Nancy pokes her head in. “That’s not very nice.”

Kate says, “Well, we don’t want to say no. She’s…” She rubs her fingers together on one hand, pensive. “She’s too nice to say no to. I think.”

Wendy says, “Maybe you all should’ve just fucking said no.”

Octavia scoffs. “Well, leave it to Wendy to oversimplify things. If it were up to you, we would’ve sank Walter Christie and turned it into an artificial reef.”

“Well why don’t we?” says Wendy.

Joanna looks back at you. “It’s surprisingly roomy when you get rid of most of the shells. We’re planning on staying here for a day or two until she gives up.”

You asks, “And if she doesn’t?”

The Aces are silent. Kate says, “We actually hadn’t planned for that.”

You’re about to say something when you hear the familiar roar of a tank engine and the sound of AC/DC. A Hellcat? Wait, no one around here owns Hellcats except-

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gDch1p4c_M

oshit

Joanna immediately closes the hatch. You all stand outside the Panzer IV as Perrine’s M39 AUV rolls into the warehouse, blasting AC/DC out the loudspeakers. The M39 stops just in front of you, and the engine idles. Perrine hops out of the driver’s position, clad in her mechanic’s jumpsuit from the Tank Meet. “Gertrude!” she says. She opens her arms wide again. “Hugs!”

You simply stand there awkwardly. After a few seconds, Perrine looks at you, confused. She blinks. “No hugs?” You shrug, smiling nervously. Perrine frowns, looking genuinely hurt. Oh god no not a guilt trip please

Nancy slides in over. “Hugs!”

Perrine brightens up again. “Yay!” She grabs Nancy in a very tight bearhug, sucking all of Nancy’s air out. She puts Nancy back down, giggling. Nancy rubs her back, grinning as well.

You ask, “So how are you doing, Perrine?”

“Doing great!” says Perrine. “I’m just looking for my most favorite cousin, Michelle. She wasn’t at her dorm and she’s not answering her calls, can you believe that?”

Yes. “No.”

Perrine places her hands on her hips, pursing her lips. “Nice tanks you got here though. I especially love your Churchill, it’s a nice versatile tank.”

You nod. “Thanks, Freshmen love it too. They call it Earl.”

Perrine chuckles. “I call mine, Ray. Everyone knows it though as the Ragin’ Cajun. I was originally going to use it in the Unlimited line up, replace the Mortar with a 90mm-” There’s a loud bang from the Panzer IV. “What was that?”

Lisa asks, “Your school have a team?”

Perrine shakes her head. “Nah. I don’t really know anything about planes, plus there’s no Unlimited for Skycraft. I’d be totally interested then!” She snaps her finger. “Speaking of which, are you going to come by and visit today?”

You say, “Maybe. We wanted to take a walk around Cherbourg, visit a spa.”

“Oh, that’s lovely!” Perrine clasps her hands together. “You know, if you guys ever have Shore Leave in Japan, you all should visit the baths. They are amazing!” She walks over to the M39. “Anyway, I suppose they’re not here. Come by and visit when you like, even you don’t get the chance to today, alright?”

You nod. “Will do!”

With that, Perrine hops in and starts blasting some Black Sabbath. The M39 backs out of the warehouse and leaves out of sight.

> Talk to the Aces

You open up the hatch. “She’s gone.”

Michelle sighs in relief. “Thank god for that. Honestly, thank you so much, Gertrude.”

“Really though, Michelle,” you say, “You probably shouldn’t avoid your family like that. Perrine seems really nice. Her hobby… eh. But, still.”

Michelle shrugs. “I’ll keep that in mind.”

Kate looks over at you. “What are you doing to do now?”

“Head to a spa,” you say. “You guys interested?”

They all shake their heads. “Nah, we’re going to hold here until it’s safe,” says Octavia. “See you round though.”

You nod and say, “See you all.” You shut the hatch and head over to Cupid the Sherman tank. You all saddle up into your respective positions, and then get on the road.

> Read a Book (Achtung, Panzer!)

You lean back in the seat and flip through Achtung, Panzer! The easy ride in this Sherman makes pretty much everything feel that much more comfortable. Your crew idly chatters amongst itself as the tank rolls out to the loading area, is offloaded onto the pier, and rolls into Cherbourg itself. You hadn’t even realized.

> Achtung, Panzer!: Progress: 80% (Or 70%. I’ll have to go back and look.)

You turn out the hatches, Nancy fitting through the Commander’s cupola with you while everyone else has their own hatches. You take in a huge whiff of air. Wine, bread, the music of France. You’re waved through customs by the attendant Naval Studies Merchant and Hall Monitors then you’re on the road.

“So, Boss,” asks Lisa. “What spa did you pick?”

You shrug. “I dunno, Lisa. It looked damn nice though.”

You give Lisa the directions to the spa, and after about a half hour sitting in traffic and rolling through the high buildings of Cherbourg, you arrive at the humble looking spa.

You walk in, and are immediately hit with the smell of flowers. “Whoa! That’s strong as hell!” you say. The five of you walk up to the reception desk and ring the bell. A very perky young woman in white clothes immediately slides into your view.

“Bienvenue sur Le Tigre boueux!”

Hey, you know some of the words. “Bonjour, parlez-vous anglais?”

The woman nods. “Yes! How may we help you?”

“Uh, walk-in service?”

“Of course! Which will you have first?”

You’ve all been disrobed in favor of nice little white robes. You and your crew sit in comfy chairs as spa personnel begin cleaning, trimming, and in general just working your nails like they do in those commercials.

The girl doing your nails asks you in surprisingly good English, “So you girls are doing Armourcraft?”

You nod. “Yep. Guessing you saw our Sherman when we came in here then?”

The girl nods. “Ah, oui oui. Very interesting thing. My daughter actually wants to do Tankery.”

You say, “She already on an Academyship?”

She shakes her head, “Nope. Will be in about two years.”

“Ah, well good luck to her.”

Nancy says, “It’s a real thing getting our nails done! I love it!”

Lisa says, “Yeah, but Nancy, we work with tanks. Our nails are going to get dirty, chipped, maybe even gouged out while we’re working.”

Nancy, still smiling says, “Lisa. Please don’t ruin this for me.”

Kitten meanwhile says, “Why do I have to get my nails done?”

You say, “Because, Kitten, if you don’t clean your nails, you’re going to get a hangnail and that stuff isn’t the most nicest thing.”

Kitten scoffs. “Whatever.”

You moan in delight as the masseur rubs into your exposed back and rids you of every trouble in the known universe. Everyone else is much like you, relaxing into their beds as the masseurs and masseuses do everything in their power to make you all feel as comfortable as humanly possible.

You say, “This is great!” The masseur asks for clarification. You forgot he was French. You say, “C’est tres grand!” The masseur grunts in the affirmative, moving onto your shoulders.

Lisa says, “Hey, Ramirez. Think your boyfriend might get mad you’re getting worked on like this?”

Ramirez says, “My boyfriend doesn’t do nearly as well as this masseur.”

You look over at Kitten and Nancy to your left. Nancy appears content with just lying there, relaxing, while Kitten is facefirst into her towel. “Kitten,” You say. “You alright.”

Kitten looks over at you, smiling. “This is AMAZING!”

You all sit in your recliners, relaxing as the soft muddy little masks on your face and the cucumber slices on your eyes sit there and make you feel absolutely PRETTY.

Kitten in the same situation asks, “Is this all we do? Sit here until this mud makes us look prettier?”

Nancy says, “Well, Kitten, it’s not just looks. It’s for the healthiness of your face!”

“If I wanted mud on my face, I’d just wait for it to rain,” says Kitten.

Lisa says, “Hey, this isn’t just mud, Kitten. This is specially made stuff for the face. They don’t just find this stuff out of the ground.”

You say, “That’s right. Just relax, Kitten.”

“I’m bored,” says Kitten.

You sigh as you lower your head down into the hot bath, bubbles flowing as soon as your nose hits the water. Steam fills the room as you relax in the baths, now completely nude.

Nancy rises out of the water, bringing her arms up and groaning. “Whoo! This has been an incredible visit!”

Your stomach growls. “Yeah, it’s just lacking lunch though.”

Lisa says, “We can go and have lunch once this bath stops being comfortable.”

“I’d starve to death by then, Lisa,” you say. Lisa giggles a little at that. You look over at Kitten, who’s fast asleep on your shoulder. You flick her on the forehead, waking her up. “Hey, Kitten. Don’t fall asleep.”

“Huh?” Kitten rubs her eyes. “Oh, I fell asleep? That’s something. I could’ve drowned.”

You say, “Well, you could’ve also gotten sick too. Don’t want my little Kittycat bedridden-“ you rustle her hair, “-Now do I?”

Nancy lowers herself down to you. “Oh yeah!” she says, “Which tank do you think we could use as a steam room?”

Lisa says, “Is that even possible? Won’t the metal just cook us? And not like in a good way?”

“Well, it can’t hurt to try?” says Nancy.

“I’d say the Churchill,” you say. “It’s roomy in there, I hear.”

Lisa nods. “Churchill is pretty roomy. Get rid of the shells maybe, you’d have enough space for maybe six people. Then you can just steam bath to your leisure.”

Kitten says, “Why are we even talking about converting our tanks into steam rooms?”

You say, “These are important questions, Kitten.”

After about a half of discussing the merits of whether or not a tank could even be used as a steam room, your bath is over. You pay for the walk-in service then exit the spa. You all feel extraordinarily fresh, pretty, and vigorous.

Your stomach disagrees with you though. There’s plenty of cafes and small restaurants to have a nice lunch. Indeed, you actually spot a nice Tank Café just down the street. You could always go back home though. Or you could have lunch over at Walter Christie. Take your pick.

The café is actually pretty damn upscale. The waiters and waitresses all wear black tie, the tables are covered with the finest linen, and you can just smell the pastries that are coming out of the ovens. Oh god, shut up Stomach.

The waitress slides over to your table. “Bonjour! Puis-je prendre votre commande?”

You nod. “Oui. Um… ” Oh boy. All that time learning French actually hasn’t taught you a lot of French. “Parlez-vous anglais?” The waitress nods. “Okay, sorry. Uh, we’ll have the IS-3 cake, with the tank track fries, and water for all of us.”

The waitress takes all of your menus, then slides away to the kitchen.

You lie back in your seat, still feeling great after that spa visit. “Whooo!”

Nancy says, “Feeling good?”

You nod. “Like a baby fresh out of the womb,” you say. “Though, I do have to work on my French a bit.”

Lisa looks around the café. “This is a pretty upscale for a café. Wonder what French dinners are like.”

Kitten says, “Well have you ever watched Ratatouille? It’s like that.”

Your table is set by the window, and you look out the window to see all kinds of people going through their days in Cherbourg.

You decide to crack open your little book on Blitzkrieg and other tank tactics as you wait for your food to arrive. You feel like you’re getting closer to the end of it. This is definitely worth a second read though, mostly because you actually have no idea what the hell Guderian is saying.

> Achtung, Panzer!: Progress: 90% (FUCK IT, IT’S 90%)

Your food arrives in good time. The IS-3 cake looks positively delicious, chocolate wheels, cracker treads, a chocolate gun barrel, and pure sweet frosting on the hull. Along with it come your fries as well. You immediately take the barrel and bite into it.

“Hey, save some for the rest of us,” says Lisa as she pulls the tracks off.

You all just start digging into your meal, loving everything about it. French cuisine stronk after all. You look at Kitten, who’s got a bit of frosting next to her lip. You tap her on the shoulder, getting her attention. You then take the frosting and stuff it into your mouth. SWEEEEEET.

Kitten points to your shirt. “You got something.” You look down, and immediately you’re flicked on the nose. “Ha! Got you.”

You giggle, tugging on her cheek. Then your phone rings.

“Alright! I’ll hand the phone back to Michelle here.” There’s a brief pause, then Michelle speaks.

“You’re coming?”

“Well, can’t leave a man behind, can I?”

“Well, I suppose it’d be a nice excuse to get out of here. Wendy looks like she’s about to bust a gasket.”

“Of course, we’ll see you there.”

You hang up, then spend the rest of your lunch eating and talking idly about such unimportant topics like the weather, the nature of suspension in a tank, and the superiority battle between 76.2mm rounds and 75mm rounds. Nancy says she much prefers 76.2.

Won’t blame her, the 76mm on Cupid is pretty much a 76.2.

Regardless, you tip the waitress as you leave, then head on back to your Sherman. Traffic isn’t so much of a killer, and you end back at the docks in good time. The Hall Monitors wave you through, and you end up on Walter Christie’s loading elevator.

You look up at Walter Christie, a huge ship. Lisa says, “12 Kilometers in length. It’s actually an elevator school. Most High School students can go right into college there.”

Nancy looks over at you as the elevator begins rising. “What do you think it’s like?”

Well, you've got a bunch of high school and college girls that find ways to modify, improve, or otherwise customize old tank designs with modern parts, old parts, new parts, and reproduction parts. It wouldn't be too far to assume that DARPA plucks the topmost prospects for state-funded projects. The loading elevator reaches the apex, right on the deck for Walter Christie. Your Sherman is waved through by Christies’ Merchant students, and you end up rolling in through to Christie’s loading area. There, you see Hobart and your Ace crew, gathered around Perrine’s M39.

Lisa stops the tank in front of them, idling the engine. Perrine walks up to you. “Hey, Gertrude!”

You hop on down from the turret and greet her politely. “Perrine, nice to see you again.”

Perrine claps her hands together, smiling. “So, ready to see the Workshop and the Factory?”

You shrug. “As I’ll ever be.” You look over at the Aces. “You guys coming?”

They’re quiet for a second, then Kate says, “Actually, we should get going.”

Michelle nods violently. “Yeah yeah! Totally! We’ve got uh… tank stuff… to do. You know.”

Smooth criminal, Michelle.

Perrine frowns. “Oh really? But you didn’t even see the hangar? We’ve got lots of surplus stuff lying around and maybe-“

The Aces all walk away. Wendy says, “Oh, we wouldn’t to do anything we’d regret, Perrine.”

Octavia nods. “Yeah! Uh, bon chance or however they say it in New Orleans, okay?” They quickly make an emergency relocation out of the area.

Perrine looks sad. “Huh. You ever get the feeling someone doesn’t like you?”

You smile, patting Perrine on the shoulder. “Don’t worry about it. So?”

Perrine nods, grinning again. “Oh yeah! Hop on my M39. I’ll have the Merchant kids take care of your Sherman for you.”

Your crew hops onto some of the seats of the M39. Perrine and you hop in front.

76.2mm is the Soviet early war gun. It was effective enough against P3s/P3-chassis vehicles, but didn't do so much against thicker 4s/Panthers/Tigers/etc.

American 76mm will probably be more useful at a variety of ranges, including HVAP ammunition. Soviet crews had their own sub-munitions but I don't know how they performed vis a vis HVAP/etc

> Talk with Perrine

Perrine decides to blast more rock music as you all drive.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWXRintPmGQ

“So, Perrine,” you ask. “What’s the Factory and the Workshop like?”

Perrine says, “Oh, it’s wonderful! Basically what we do there is take tanks apart or restore them based on what we need at the moment! There are three basic areas, the renovation, the replication, and the restoration areas. In renovation, we work on tanks for the Unlimited line, modifications and stuff like that! Replication, we build new tanks from ITL-approved blueprints! Restoration is as it implies, we restore old tanks!”

Nancy asks, “Is it hard?”

Perrine nods. “Oh most definitely! But things have been slowing down a bit, the projects we have right now are mostly trials for tanks in the Unlimited League, the Chi-Ri, and a couple of conversions. Nothing too difficult. You should see us before seasons, we’re busier than rats in a bar!”

The M39 stops right outside the very imposing factory building. You assume that to be Perrine’s Factory. You all hop out and Perrine walks ahead, motioning you on as if she’s leading you on to Candyland.

As you walked in, you realize Candyland this ain’t.

It does very much look like a conventional factory, there are students here and there either in uniforms or jumpsuits working on tanks. You can see some welding a roof kit onto a Hellcat, or some replacing the suspension on a Panther, and what looks to be a platoon’s worth of students around the huge Chi-Ri tank.

Your crew appears to be in awe at it all. You as well, to a bigger extent. This is the first time you’ve ever actually seen tanks so… naked. In a manner of speaking.

Perrine smiles, looking at you. “Welcome to the Jungle.”

Which do you check out first?

ITL legal Hellcats, Wolverines, and Jacksons are pretty neat. Getting some of those late war 3 inchers or 90mms would be pretty fucking rad.

Plenty of opportunity for one of those 90mm GMCs to score lots and lots of kills with good radio contact and HVAP.

How's the off road capability on those tanks?
>>
>>29589790
Very good. We (as in, America(ns)) used TDs are the primary method of destroying tanks, not other tanks.

They were very light, very fast, with (very) large guns. The Hellcat scoots at like, 40 or 50 MPH on roads and like 30 otherwise. Wolverine slightly less so. Jackson is similar performance to the Wolverine. Might've gotten a more powerful engine, not sure.
>>
>>29589760
The Achille and M36 are pretty similar, biggest difference is the Achille having a Manual Traverse turret and it being less armored, however the M36 has heavier shells.
Ballistics are relatively equal.

>>29589790
Better power to weight of Shermans and lower ground pressure
>>
>>29589840
90mm HVAP/sub-munition penetrators/etc probably outperform 17pdr HVAP.

Probably.

Besides, there's some southern pride to be had in a Jackson.
>>

You all stand by as the students work on the Chi-Ri. Next to the Chi-Ri is a long barreled gun. Some are working on the finicky suspension, others are working on fitting the hull mounted 37mm gun, the only thing the Chi-Ri is really lacking is turret.

You ask, “Why doesn’t this tank have a turret?”

Perrine says, “Turret was crushed when we found it underwater. We’re building a new one to-“ Perrine motions to the ITL Official, Judge Kanon Sasogawa, “-Miss Sasogawa over there. We’ve pulled a lot of manpower for this, gotta get it ready in the next couple of weeks or so.”

Nancy says, “Didn’t you say you’d have it ready in a couple of months?”

Perrine grins. “Well, the original plan was to restore it and then replicate it for the Unlimited League. But, we were called up by Chi-Ha-Tan. Turns out they’re willing to shell out a lot of money for it.”

You nod. “So what gun does it use?”

Perrine says, “Type 5 75mm. Single tray autoloader too, means it’ll put out an insane rate of fire, at least in comparison to say, the Tiger or the Panther. Projected ground pressure is pretty nice too, along with a decent speed and pretty decent armor too. We originally wanted to use a Type 99 88mm but acquiring one has been relatively difficult and we decided the 75 would be sufficient.”

Kitten says, “Neat. Chi-Ri’s a pretty good tank in World of Tanks.”

Perrine laughs. “Oh! You slay me, World of Tanks.”

You all stand by the side as another ITL Official, Judge Remi Takashima supervises the student construction of an M4 Sherman. The Hull is lacking a turret, the suspension, the tracks, and even the hull mounted machine gun. More students appear to be lowering in a engine by crane.

“You build a lot of replicas?” you ask.

Perrine nods. “We’re one of the few places that does it. ITL is really finicky who they choose to build replicas. We have to pass all kinds of tests and such, plus we have to have constant supervision from ITL officials when we build replicas. And if they aren’t exact and I mean exact, they have to be scrapped completely.”

Nancy says, “Ouch. Does that happen a lot?”

Perrine nods, smile unfading. “A lot, yes. We mostly use some of the invalids as Unlimited tanks.”

Lisa points to the Sherman. “So this is a replica then?”

“Yep, we build mail-order replicas and send them to schools who want it. General build time can take anywhere from two weeks to a whole month depending on the model. Tigers for instance can take months to replicate properly. We’ve only ever built two.”

You nod. “And the Hellcats?”

Perrine laughs. “The Hellcats are a popular one to replicate among our freshmen. No one gets to work in here without memorizing the Hellcat blueprint.”

Lisa says, “We probably don’t need to.”

“Still!” Perrine walks up to you, holding her hands together and pouting like mad. “There’s so much left for you to see!”

You sigh. “Well, Perrine. I mean-“ You’re interrupted by the sound of the side hull of the Sherman falling over flat. “Well. Tell you what, how about you walk with us, talk with us?”

You all head out of the building and back onto the M39. You ask Perrine, “So, do you make a lot out of this mail-order stuff?”

Perrine nods, her smile faded a bit. “Yeah.” She starts up the M39. “We mostly use the money to fund the Unlimited team, plus some of it goes to the school as well. Because of how much money we make, we even get to keep the Tournament winnings for ourselves!”

You whistle. “That’s great.” The M39 starts off onto the road. “What about the surplus stuff?”

“Mostly chasses and leftover tanks no one wants. A lot of them are waiting on either restoration or renovation. That or we use them for extra scrap metal. Why, you want any of them?”

You shrug. “I considered it.”

“Well, I’ll call you later if we have any that aren’t slated for any of the R’s.”

Feels like a double edged sword.

Two weeks minimum build time, and we'll be funding a tourney rival team.
I'm guessing when we're really, really desperate, that's when this option becomes a possibility.

I thought we'd be able to acquire a tank that's at least something close to the wishlisted Tiger II (that's also worth Eliting) before the match with William Adams, but seeing as how our options are dwindling down on that, we really should consider spending the money for upgrading the Sentinel, StuG and Panzer IV.

With that, you all arrive at the loading area, where the Merchant kids have taken to having dinner on top of your Sherman. Lisa and Ramirez quickly climb out of the M39 to scare them off, Nancy following reluctantly.

You and Kitten are about to go, before Perrine stops you. “Wait, Gertrude. Can I talk to you?” You nod, motioning Kitten to go on without you. You stand by the M39 as Perrine nervously rubs her hands together.

“What’s up?” you ask.

Perrine looks at you, concerned. “… We’re friends right?”

You raise your eyebrow. “Friends?”

“Well- Not friends per say. Associates. Uh… someone who can at least tolerate me?”

You cross your arms. “What do you mean, Perrine?”

Perrine steps off the M39 and kicks at the ground, now finding it more interesting. “Well, I must admit to you, Gertrude. I don’t really have a lot of friends. It seems like I really scare off people for some reason, even my own cousin doesn’t tolerate me.”

You shrug. “Well, I suppose the Unlimited thing has kinda taken a toll on your social life?”

Perrine beams with the brightness of a thousand suns, then immediately takes you up in an incredible bearhug. This girl must have been a loader at one point. She puts you down and bounces in her step. “Yay!”

You chuckle, patting Perrine on the shoulder. “Right, anyway, we oughta get going.”

Perrine nods. “Alright. Feel free to visit while you’re still on Shore Leave, okay?”

“I’ll consider it, Perrine,” you say.

She waves you off as you and your crew power away in Cupid the Sherman tank. You make idle chat as the huge crane delivers you from Walter Christie Polytechnical back home to Lafayette Girls Academy.

You check the time. 5 O’Clock. Right around time for dinner. Where should you go for now?

You all stop at a nice little restaurant on Lafayette Girls Academy. Fancy, but not too fancy. It’s just a nice little place to have things like chicken, pork, ham, and other freshly cooked meals. Because of Shore Leave, they’re having a weeklong special on French cuisine. You decide to order the Tarte Normande and the Terrinee. Once the food arrives, you find it otherwise absolutely delicious.

“This is absolute delicious!” you say.

Nancy nods. “Yeah. I never realized this place existed, we should come here again.”

Lisa says, “Definitely.” She takes another bite of the Terrinee. “I’m loving this rice pudding stuff.”

Kitten nods as well, digging into her portion of Tarte Normande. “And this apple tart is really great!”

Ramirez says, “I really like the apple tart too.”

You shrug. “I chickened out I guess. I really didn’t want to see what they had in store for renovations.”

“Aw, that’s a shame,” says Nancy. “But I suppose that’s understandable. I mean, Perrine’s very nice, but her choice in tanks is kind of...”

Lisa says, “Shit?”

You say, “But hey, I think today was fun. We should definitely do it again sometime. Maybe tomorrow too.”

Nancy nods. “Oh, of course! I’ll wait eagerly for that day.”

We really have no choice but to play nice with Fredendall since she's the Jesus Nut on the helicopter that is saving our school. Perrine just customizes tanks--she's like that 9-year-old that always built the crazy vehicles out of Legos, mixing all the different sets. You know the tanks--the ones with lasers and hover skirts and a jet engine just because.

As you read, your staff makes some idle talk.

“So, Kitten,” asks Nancy. “Those video games you play are really challenging.”

Kitten shrugs. “Not really. You just learn how to micro and macro properly, and you keep your APM consistent. Once you do that, you’ll start to play competitively, even against pretty cheesy strats like 6pools or FFE.”

Ramirez says, “What?”

Kitten blushes a little. “Uh… nevermind.”

You laugh a bit. “Kitten plays a lot of Starcraft 2 on the side. She’s cute when she does it too. Always puffing her cheeks out whenever she gets beaten or whining when her deathball gets rushed by MMM. You main Terran these days, right, Kitten?”

Kitten nods. “Yeah. Protoss are lame and I can’t get into playing Zerg.”

Nancy says, “This sounds complicated for a video game.”

You wheeze a bit, laughing even more. “You need at least 200 APM to remain competitive!” You slap your knee. “AHAHAHAHAHAHA!” Kitten quietly laughs alongside your roaring, while your staff look at you both like you’re fucking nuts.

With that, after paying the check and tipping the waitress, you all leave the restaurant and return to your tank.

and invite the crew

> Head to your Dorm (Invite crew)

Also, here's a budget spending and tank upgrade/s proposal.

>Option #1: Minimal Spending
PANZER IV AUSF. C
- Applique Armor
- Improved Suspension
- Grouser Kit
>Total = 1,350

By Monday, when the Sponsorship money arrives, we'll still have enough to buy the Tiger II. It still won't make any difference in the first match, however.

>Option #2: Average Spending
STUG III AUSF. E
- 7.5 cm KwK 40 L/43 (5,500 Dollars)

PANZER IV AUSF. C (1,350 Dollars)
- Applique Armor
- Improved Suspension
- Grouser Kit
>Total = 6,850

Besides the money from Sponsorships, this requires the crew to try to find some other bit of revenue source (Red Ball Courier, for example) or tap into the Sophomore fund or both.
But at least there's a week to recoup the money.

>Option #3:
Add another L/43 for the Panzer IV + Option #2
>Total = 12,350

For this one, the Tiger II purchase will have to happen on the first Monday after the William Adams match. (Provided we won it and the sponsorship money is still constantly flowing in.)
The wishlisted Tiger II will still be available at this point, though I couldn't say if it'll remain by the following Tuesday.

>Option #4:
Spend the money on converting the Sentinel to ACIV already because we're pretty much just having 30k worth of purchased guns sitting idle and not being used.
Also, all of the above I guess.

IMO, I'd go for #2 as priority, and #4 as a longshot vote.

You pull up your cellphone and give a call to Perrine as you head in. “Hey, Perrine.”

“Gertrude, what’s up?”

“Just calling to see if you wanted to come by my place.”

“YES! I’LL BE THERE FAST AS LIGHTNING!” With that, Perrine hangs up. Oh boy, this oughta be good.

Your crew all take to relaxing in various parts of your dorm. Nancy and Kitten are sat in front of the TV, watching the latest Tankery match-up analyses. Lisa meanwhile has of course taken to using your shower, while Ramirez is simply lying on your bed, reading one of your comics.

You sit in between Nancy and Kitten.

“Anything good?” you ask.

Nancy says, “It’s mostly analysis of the Chi-Ha-Tan versus King Michael match. Nothing really new.”

You nod. “Hm.” You get a knock at your door. No way. She couldn’t have arrived that fast. You get up and walk over to the door. You open it up.

You’re immediately caught by Perrine in a bear hug. “Hugs!” she shouts.

Joy.

She puts you back down and reveals her bag of goodies. Candies and the like. “So, what are we going to do? Anything interesting?” she asks.

You shrug. “Well, just hang out here.”

“Awesome!”

“So, Perrine.” Perrine had actually brought a bunch of cookies for everyone. Good cookies too. “How’d you get here so fast?”

Perrine snaps her fingers, smiling smugly. “Through the use of an efficient transportation system!” You’re a bit quiet at that. “Just kidding, I bribed the Merchant kids. With cookies!”

Nancy nods. “These are good cookies, you do a lot of cooking?”

“Nah, I just baked these on the side on the off-chance I’d get hungry.” Perrine takes a bite out of her cookie. “But, I think they turned out decently.” She turns to you. “You play a lot of video games?”

You point to Kitten and say, “Ask her, not me.”

Kitten shrugs. “Oh, a couple of games here and there.”

Perrine asks, “Ever play Kerbal Space Program?”

What follows then is Perrine pulling out her laptop and demonstrating to everyone how KSP works. Essentially it’s an indie game where you have to build rockets and go to the fucking Mun and beyond. Perrine actually demonstrates how far she’s gotten through the solar system through smart use of well-built rockets and space stations.

You meanwhile, are stumped as Perrine walks you through launching your first rocket.

“Uh… So full throttle?” You say. Perrine nods, looking over your shoulder. You launch the rocket at full throttle, and it immediately tilts to the side and crashes into the ground.

Perrine bursts into laughter at that. “AHAHAHAHAHAAA!” She slaps her knee. “Oh god that’s amazing!”

You say, “Oh shut up, I can figure this out! I’ll have it by the morning!”
