You have always wanted to be an emperor. That ambition has burned dimly in the past, tempered by reality. Now the opportunity to realise your ambition has arrived and you are determined not to let it slip. Now is the time to build your empire and become an emperor.

Last Thread: You are the knight, Talon York, and you are the man who will be an emperor. Last thread you spoke a bit to Gnome about your power and reaffirmed your interest in building rather than destroying. You then spoke to your men in celebration. Lynn then threw a childish tantrum over not being allowed to fight as she wished, before running off. Speaking to Gnome, you learnt that you’ve always been using astral power, never sorcery. Now you’re currently preparing to tease her.

1. Next thread will be 5pm EST, Jan 24th. Only one thread that weekend.

NB: The lorebin is pretty large and I’m not expecting everybody to read it all. I’m still up for answering questions ITT so as not to alienate players and I’ll try to make things understandable contextually.

Rolls are d20 and the best of the first three posters. Please quote the post you are voting for or rolling against.

>1. And 2.

"You know, Salamander and Undine approached me the other night. More than a little drunk, and bold as you like. Or maybe overconfident. Seems someone put this idea in their head that I was a virgin, and that they could 'handle' me. I think they're dissuaded of the notion now.

“They also seemed to think they had permission to ‘go first’.”

Gnome stares at you, face turning red, before she looks down into the courtyard and takes a big drink. “So you slept with them?”

“Yes.”

“Both of them.”

“Together.”

Her shoulders hunch a bit at that and you notice she’s watching Undine down in the courtyard, where the water elemental is talking and drinking with Glynn. “They were supposed to tell me.”

You step up close to her, and tapping her arm slightly, offer her a slice of apple. She gives you a sullen look, the redness of her face stark against her brown skin. Despite that, she takes the slice from your fingers with her teeth and chews it, giving you a glare the whole while.

She snarls a bit at you over that and begins to look away, but you capture her attention with another slice of apple. Once again, she takes it with her teeth and after chewing it, responds, “They weren’t plans. Undine was just being jealous of me but knew what she wanted. Sala was… Well, she wore her interest on her sleeve. I didn’t think it fair to stand in their way, especially as they seemed to think I was.”

“Those are known as plans, Gnome. And what were you going to say about Salamander?”

She somehow becomes even more sullen and embarrassed. “You wouldn’t like it.”

“I’m a big boy. I’ll manage. You don’t need to censor yourself in private like this. You didn’t do it with Lynn.”

She glances to the side for a bit before speaking, “Sala’s a slut.”

You snort with laughter and she grumbles in return. “Sorry, sorry,” you say, “but Undine was calling her the same thing in mock anger. It was just funny.”

“It’s not inaccurate. She sleeps with anything male and attractive that returns her interest. Like you, in more ways than one.”

She gives you a wary look. “What type of fun are you talking about?”

“Fun,” you answer flatly.

She grumbles again before smiling slightly, “Give me some more of that apple and maybe, just maybe, I’ll answer you.”

You grin and hold a slice up to her, she goes to bite down on it only to find air. She glares at you, and then her eyes widen as you place the slice between your own teeth and wait.

You obediently hold a slice before her mouth, but unlike last time she merely opens her mouth in anticipation. And so you pop the slice into her mouth and she chews it happily. This goes on for a while and she slowly relaxes, sipping at her wine, and you manage to have a few slices yourself before you run out of apple.

As you pop the last slice into her mouth you ask her, “So, how exactly did you want me to feed you the apple?”

She gives you a slightly pompous look. “When my sisters own up to me about what they did with you, then I’ll tell you.”

“I’ll hold you to that. And I’ll bring an apple next time we lunch together in Harrowmont. Or should it be a steak with béarnaise.”

“Bring both. Probably some extra sauce with the steak, too.”

You cock an eyebrow at that, but let it go and fetch another apple. Gnome happily spends the rest of the night chatting lightly with you as the two of you drink, so long as you stay away from the topic of her sisters or any teasing. Though you obediently let her get her shots in on you. This is turning into a very strange master-familiar relationship.

>Sarah scene

You rose early in the morning in order to direct your men to start cleaning up the pass. Gnome gives you a nod from where she’s been resting at night next to her sister, but remains here. Undine still appears to be in deep meditation.

A little while after you begin directing the soldiers, a carriage rolls up to the keep, driven by a magitech motor and bearing the Hawkins crest. It seems that Sarah was coming here, in fact. You ask Lieutenant Richard to continue with the work as you go to greet her. She steps out, wearing a very extravagant black and purple dress, much like the one she wore when you first met her.

“Good morning, Sarah,” you greet her. “Do you want the men to prepare a room for you to rest in?”

She waves you off. “No need, Talon. I slept on the way here. Would you mind if we held a private meeting over some breakfast?”

You shrug. “Business?”

“Not necessarily. I’m just hungry and I imagine there’s a few things we could talk about.”

You haven’t had breakfast yet, so you join her. The food is light, as Gimbon isn’t too well supplied, but you’ve had worse and she knows better than to grumble. What topic should you raise first, as she looks expectantly at you?

You engage Sarah in some light chatter about what she did back in Vitria, and she once again doesn’t miss an opportunity to regale you about the wonders of the city. You pay closer attention this time, and notice she’s concentrating mostly on the wonders of her house. She’s either closeted, and doesn’t know much else of Vitria, or is selling an idea to you. You’re not sure if you’re simply reading too much into it. At one point she mentions her mother’s consort and you interrupt.

“I was wondering about that. Why is it that you never took on a consort when you become the head of house?” you ask.

“Eh? Oh, well, making an heir wasn’t as important as strengthening House Hawkins and fighting off House Oaln,” she answers, slightly flustered.

“That’s not really the point of a consort, Sarah,” you point out.

“Yes, well, I’m not really interested in them otherwise,” she says, playing with her food.

You move on to a different topic. “Anything particularly interesting happen at Harrowmont while I’m away.”

She blushes a bit, and continues to play with her food. That… wasn’t really the response you were expecting.

“Sarah, did something happen?” you ask, concerned.

She looks up, surprised. “Ah, no, no. Not like that. It’s just… there’s some odd rumours amongst the soldiers. I hadn’t noticed them earlier, as there was usually a buffer but I overheard some…”

Ah. It seems your men weren’t being all that discreet. Or Sarah was wandering around to odd places. Lynn had mentioned giving her self-defence lessons, though, so she might have continued those.

Polyamory is still generally disapproved of, even if many nobles do it so they don't really go around sleeping with everybody. The consort is a pre-marital partner, essentially, who may never become a married partner. They could be political, and in Vitria probably are, but not necessarily. Otherwise, I'm not seeing the wonkiness.

As Sarah flies into an even greater panic, you grin inwardly.

“No! You don’t need to go talk to the soldiers. It’s nothing major. They’re not talking about that sort of thing. They’re talking about you and me having-,“ Sarah suddenly clams up, realising what she almost said.

“Having?” you ask, drawing out the word.

“Nothing important,” she finished lamely, staring at her food.

You lean back. “I doubt that. If it’s got you so worked up it must be important. It’s my duty to chase it down and deal with it if it’s troubling a valuable ally such as yourself.”

Sarah looks up at you, her face red and eyes wide.

Sarah looks like she’s about to blow her top but she closes her eyes and quite obviously calms down. A pity, you think, she’d have been funner to deal with if she’d blown her top.

After a minute, she reopens them and gives you a sheepish look. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to blow up like that. It’s just… I’ve been worrying about those rumours for a while.”

“So, other than the men spreading rumours about the two of us, and probably countless other women, what else is happening at Harrowmont?”

You blushes slightly at your mention of the rumours but happily talks about Harrowmont, “The construction is going amazingly well. I’ve seen mages at work before, but using earth elementals for construction is very impressive. I was wondering though, when you’ll build a manor for me to stay in out in the designated area? The keep is nice, but a proper manor would give room for many things for me to do.”

“Won’t you be in Vitria most of the time?”

“If I’m going to be a member of your cabinet, I’ll still need a proper place to stay when I’m in Harrowmont advising you.”

You make a note of Sarah’s interest in remaining in your cabinet even after getting Vitria and invite her to continue.

“Hmm, well, General Arail is managing things quite well but I’m not sure sitting around keeping the peace is for him. Maybe you should swap him with General Felix? Or deploy him to the Taouran front and leave a Captain at Harrowmont?”

>Anything else to say to Sarah or ask her? Next post will be the last for the thread.
>>
>>29618881

The time between threads isn't relevant when there is actual game time. Last time we had a one on one with her like these was after the attack at Fort Locke. That was weeks ago in game time. The sex scene including Sala was sort of one, but not the same as an actual discussion.

>>
>>29618941
>General Arail

I had a good feeling that would happen at some point. I think a timely visit home for Talon might be in order and deploying him to the field again for a bit, he's a real prodigy on the field, no reason to keep him copped up for so long. And I'd rather Talon be home then Felix. He can do so much more, like setting up a Knight's Order, something that has been discussed a lot.
>>
>>29618941
"it's something to consider." probably we should ask her advice on how best to subsume the remaining Vitrian provinces without collapsing their boarder guard, raising their full resistance or opening ours lacks to Taourian menace.

>>
>>29619203

>>
>>29619016

>>
>>29619224
We could simplify things by only introducing a LT general rank. That way we could promote say Glynn and put him in charge of Harrowmont while still making him junior to our current generals.
>>
>>29619302
I think it's probably too early to promote Glynn again.
>>
>>29618997

>>
>>29619302

I have a feeling Glynn of all people will want to stay with Talon in the field until the Taour threat is done with, he has the most vested interest in it outside of our own.

Though I do think messing around with that stuff might be smart, personally I think Talon should head home and handle his affairs himself a bit. He has done very little emperoring more conquering.
>>
>>29619174
Current ones are subotimal, real world ones are way to complicated for our needs (or the needs of modern militaries but that's another matter)
>>
>Neir
“I think I’ve found our spymaster. An RSK countess who I’ve known for a while is very good at gathering information. She certainly seems to know everything there is to know about me, including the rumours.”

Sarah perks up a bit at that but speaks more normally, “Oh? You’d trust somebody from the RSK for your intelligence?”

“She’s trustworthy and a good friend. She also told me which RSK family is supporting House Oaln.”

Sarah nods absently, her mind ticking over something else.

>Vitrian conquest
“Well,” Sarah says, “if you want to do it without too much trouble then you’ll need a way to neutralise Craol’s guard. If you can take Vitria and raise my banner over it, even under your own, it should bring the rest of Vitria under control. You might need to make a deal with Houses Rorek and Tabeth, though.”

>continued
>>
>>29619338
Glynn has never been promoted. You're probably thinking of Moss, head of the Mage-Knights.
>>
>>29619406
>Finishing off
“You do look very nice in that dress, Sarah,” you compliment her. “You usually dress down more, but this sort of dress suits you very well. It’s refined character suits your personality very well.”

She squirms a bit under the praise, smiling widely. “Thank you, Talon. It’s good to see it doesn’t go wasted. I’d forgotten that you’d spent some time in the RSK and would have seen quite a few – I’ll try not to dress so poorly next time.”

There’s a subtext there, and you think you caught it. You suspect Sarah might be dressing a little differently from now on, especially after the rumours. On that note…

“I did hear some rumours about you, too. They were interesting,” you say, smiling a bit.

She narrows her eyes at you. “What were they about?”

You raise your hands in a placating manner. “I did say earlier that soldiers talk and you shouldn’t let them distract you.”

The rest of the breakfast goes quickly, with Sarah hounding you about what the rumours are about. She continues even after Gnome enters, much to the earth elemental’s amusement.

>That’s another thread

>>
>>29619440

Well I mean as a guy who grew up with a navy father I know them as well. But not everyone does, and they might over complicate things. We need a happy medium.

The fact royality, Knight Order/Mage's Tower, and Archers are all a part of our general mass kind of makes it a bit more difficult.
>>
>>29619432
>Apologies if the thread got a bit slack towards the end, I was flagging badly towards the end of the Gnome scene and only continued on as I’d promised a Sarah scene.

>>
>>29619440
Right, but they have 10 officer ranks, 9 enlisted ranks, and 5 warrant ranks in the army alone. We currently have 2 enlisted ranks (regular and sergeant) and 3 officer ranks (LT, Captain, General). Okay, technically we have that one Marshall, but a Marshall apparently equals a captain anyway. I figure we should probably use a simplified version at least initially, possibly with more setting appropriate titles.
>>
>>29619432
>Apologies if the thread got a bit slack towards the end, I was flagging badly towards the end of the Gnome scene and only continued on as I’d promised a Sarah scene.

Yes and no. We could have handled it better as well. Too many people have the harem thing on the mind going into a social thread, so it might have been detrimental and in a regular thread the reactions might have been different. Who knows, next thread I assume will be better thought out.

>Gnome's not always right, though

Well of course not, but she's the mother character, seen the most shit and the easiest for you. I assume yourself gets in there bit more with characters you find easy to write, I know that's how I am.
>>
>>29619766
>>29619799

>>
>>29619824
>Lynn's scene disrupted by harem thoughts
I don't really get that. I wasn't taking her as seriously once I saw how hard headed she was being, for sure, but otherwise I'd say that was about right (besides the part where I thought the hug was suppose to be a shoulder touch).
>>
>>29619822
As was pointed out, the thread was meant to transition to a light-hearted social thread and I threw Lynn's drama in. Part of me also wonders if I should have done something lighter (like the conversation at the PoP after the trapper) to give people more insight into her character before this.

Also, I initially intended to avoid dice rolls for the scene but the action chosen was outright risky given her state of mind, so I threw one in rather than just insta-fail.
>>
>>29619915
Eh, it's really no harm done. Good character development, it was just sorta jarring from what I was expecting. Like I said though, my own fault, not yours.
>>
>>29619915

>outright risky

This just in, /tg/ is unaware of how young women's minds work in emotional states. More news at 12.

Not your fault, but I agree with the call to throw the dice in, wasn't thought out well.
>>
>>29619939

No harm done in the case of it gives a certain kind of depth we haven't had in this quest yet.

When Talon says he is getting too old for this it shows. Kind of a generational gap and with emotions playing into it, makes the whole thing, as you said a lot more jarring.

I'm kind of glad it happened.
