Well, seeing as how it got such good reception last time, I guess I'll continue MGHQ for a little while longer!

You are ALICE. You were once a magical girl, but have now ended up having to hunt down your former comrades. As a member of the Magical Girl Hunter Bureau, it is your job to defend humanity from the Magical Menace!

After a successful hunt where you managed to bag two Magical Girls in one mission, you've returned to the Freedom Star to drop off your trophies and debrief. As you step of the Daedalus, one of the hangar techs makes his way over to you.

"Um, Bruttenhold's called a general meeting, ma'am." The tech says nervously, as if he's afraid to be near you.

Well, he kinda should, but you're not about to admit that.

"Another one?" You sigh and wave off the tech to dismiss him. "Thanks."

General meetings were just a way for Bruttenholm to get all the various squad leaders together. Like most bureaucratic functions, you were weren't to enthusiastic about going to them, but on the other hand, you didn't want inconvenience the Old Man too much either...

Kinda going for realistic and kinda like Homu. We understand MGs very well and makes us very effective, but it's really hard on us. We are an extremely effective hunter, but on the inside we are quite an emotional mess, it's the hunt that keeps us together, and an ever distant memory of what we wished for in the first place the we hold on to.

You grudgingly decide to go attend the meeting. It's not like you had any better excuse not to go, and there weren't really a lot of places to hide on the station, anyways.

"Hey Leo, take care of the unloading for me, okay? I got another meeting to go to."

"Right, right." Leo waves you off. "I got it."

With that you make your way to the station's main meeting room. You are of course, end up being the first person there considering you actually bothered coming a little bit early this time.

"Ah, Alice, it's quite a surprise to see you come to a meeting early!" He grins.

"Yeah, well, it's not like I had anything better to do." You grumble as you take a seat, resting your legs on top of the table. "So what's this meeting supposed to be about? And don't tell me it's another excuse to try and get me to 'socialize.'"

"While I'd like nothing more than for you to get a little bit closer to your fellow Hunters, I'm afraid this is about business." Bruttenholm sighs. "I'll give more details when everybody arrives."

"Fiiiiiiine." You sigh.

"You're pouting again." Bruttenholm chuckles.

"I am not." You pout.

"I don't think you'd want your colleagues to see you like that."

Soon enough, the other squad leaders begin to file in. Since the MGHB was a multinational organization, it made sense that its members would be from all over the world as well. They were all individuals who had distinguished themselves in the Magic War in some way or another, and were personally handpicked by Bruttenholm himself. However, while they were extremely skilled at what they did, that didn't exactly correspond with their sanity.

Heh, as if you weren't a shining example of that.

Also, because you were pretty bad with names, and also because you couldn't care less about learning them, you've mostly taken to just calling them by whatever nickname you thought of at the time. At this point, they're all pretty much used to it, but you know a couple of them are still bothered.

First, there was Rorke, or as you liked to call him, Douchebag. Like you he was American, and competitive in that extremely unhealthy sort of way. Everything was just a game to him, and he hated losing. And since you had a higher kill count than him, most of that hate was focused on you. Well, you guess that whole "ex-magical girl" thing had something to do with it, too, but seriously, fuck that guy.

And then there was Sir Reginald Ponceface the III, a man whose many glorious titles were only matched by his mustache. For a Brit, he wasn't too bad. He actually reminded you a lot about those Victorian safari hunters, complete with the cute little pith hat. You're almost convinced that he's either a time traveler or was simply born in the wrong time. A bit stiff, but honorable enough to be counted on.

Dundee was your resident Aussie. Unlike the other squad leads, Dundee was more suited to fighting Invaders. Whereas the rest of the world was freaking out when they first started touching down, for Australia, it was Thursday. Pretty laid back with an unhealthy love for fire.

Scotty was well... a Scot. She was loud, obnoxious, annoying, and pretty much the only other person you knew who beat a Magical Girl in a sword fight. Had just about as much respect for authority as you did, but was probably a bit too enthusiastic about the whole "fighting fair" thing.

You called your Chinese partner Lucy Liu, which was honestly the only female Asian name you could recall. Lucy was straight arrow of the bunch. Quiet, professional, and focused on the job. It was no wonder that her team had the lowest amount of collateral damage attributed to it out of all of the squads.

Antonio Banderas was from South American country which you completely forgotten the name of. There wasn't anything too special about him except for his good looks and personal charm, which made him the unofficial face of the MGHB. Well, better him to deal with all the press conferences and interviews than you, especially after what happened that one time...

And there was.... Andre Richardson, the ex-African warlord. That was his real name, too. You weren't about to make a derogatory nickname for him. That would be fucking racist, after all. Anyways, Andre's biggest asset was apparently his ungodly luck. His squad could suffer 99% losses and STILL somehow achieve its mission objectives with flying colors. He was the only squad lead allowed to use his personal army to fill out his squad, because he would burn through rookies like a fat kid in a buffet.

Well, that was it-

OH YEAH

And there was Ivan, the Russian. You... actually don't know anything about Ivan. Nobody does. He never speaks and just sort of hangs back in the background. But he's extremely polite, kinda like a butler.

"Ah, how nice to see all of you present!" Bruttenholm nods. "Now, as you know, Alice here successfully hunted down two MGs in California just scant hours ago."

"Hmph, I could've done it." Douchebag scowls.

"Now now, I will not tolerate grandstanding in this meeting." Bruttenholm shakes his head. "Well, there is the possibility of the presence of a Companion in Los Angeles."

The room goes deathly quiet.

"Is it confirmed?" Reginald asks.

"Not 100%, but there is a high chance." Bruttenholm activates the screen, which begins to display grainy surveillance footage of a warehouse. "The LAPD have been keeping watch on a suspected Coven near the docks. We believe this is where it is operating out of."

Covens were places where, essentially, Magical Girl sympathizers and worshippers gathered. They were pretty much the equivalent of terrorist cells.

"Alice, since you've done so well last time, I'd like to give you the option of leading the raid on this Coven."

"W-what?" You blink.

"In addition to the Companion, there is the possibility of multiple MGs present as well. I want to make sure we're thoroughly prepared." Brutthenholm explains.

"You were hoping I'd accept so you could make me work with someone else, weren't you?" You sigh.

"I won't admit that." Bruttenholm grins.

>Pick two:

>>
>>29639374
I was under the impression landmines could help channel the MGs into a specified killzone, and block off some escape routes.

Shouldn't be too hard. RFID tags, possibly active electronic measures to disarm the landmines (like computer chip-controlled detonators), and if they've been preparing for these situations, possibly quick-degrading explosives.

Depends on what Merc says is available. Typical modern-day landmines are just too much of a mess to deploy in an urban environment, particularly on domestic soil.

"Hey, what was the policy on handling sympathizers?" Scotty asks.

"I believe the UN declared that anybody sympathizing with a Magical Girl was officially an Enemy of Humanity, so theoretically we could do whatever wanted."

With that, Scotty runs off and you're left along again. With nothing else to do, you head back to the hangar where Daedalus is waiting.

"What, another mission? But we just go there!" Leo blinks.

"Yeah, well, I'd love to find an MG that works to our schedule." You shrug. "We're resupplied, right?"

"That's right." Leo nods. "We could launch right now if you want-"

"Good, let's go then." You say, walking up the loading ramp. "No sense wasting time."

"You seem awfully enthusiastic today, Alice."

"A bit, yeah."

"Well, I got a chance to bag another Companion today." You grin. "Oh boy am I gonna make it squeal."

As the Daedalus is in transit, you decide to review the mission details again. The LAPD was nice enough to provide you with maps and photos of the operational area. It was in a warehouse district near the docks, so there wasn't any fear of hitting civilians or residential areas. However, there was lots of cargo and storage areas around, and you knew that companies would throw a fit over their merchandise getting destroyed. Plus, since this was still a populated city, you were barred from using anything that was restricted by the UN, like landmines. Oh boy, the media would REALLY love to get a story like that.

"We'll be reaching the landing zone in ten minutes." The pilot announces. "Be ready for landing."

"Ha, not today." Leo laughs lightly. "I just wanted to see if you were doing all right."

"And what if I did?" You ask, trying to stay stoic.

"I was just asking. It seemed like it." Leo shrugs.

"Have you been eavesdropping at my door?" You narrow your eyes.

"Alice, you're basically allergic to the concept of subtlety." Leo sighs. "You're not exactly great at hiding the fact that this entire job is tearing you up inside."

"And what exactly are you asking me to do? Quit?" You blink.

"No, I'm asking you to take a break." Leo shakes his head. "Ever since we started working together, all I've seen you do is shoot things and cry in your room with no middle ground in between."

"YOU HAVE been eavesdropping on me!" You gasp.

"Like I said, you're terrible at hiding things." Leo rolls his eyes. "Look, you've more than eligible for shore leave, and I'm sure Bruttenholm would approve it. You need to take a break from all this, Alice, because I'm afraid one day you're going to crack."

You're wondering if all this is some sick joke, but you see from the expression on Leo's face that he's dead serious.

"I'll think about it." You say. "And that's the best answer you're going to get right now. We're on mission, you know."

"I was just voicing a concern." Leo salutes. "Just letting you know, the Bureau isn't going to fall apart if you're gone for a few days. That's why we got the other teams for."

"Yeah, whatever." You wave Leo off. "Oh right, and if I catch you eavesdropping on me I WILL shoot to kill."

"I'll remember that." Leo chuckles lightly before closing the door.

At this point, the Daedalus finally reaches the drop point, which is in an vacant lot a few miles away from the warehouse in question. You also see Reginald and Scotty's assault carrier's, the Queen's Pride and Highlander, already landed. In addition, there was a large police presence, complete with mobile command center and SWAT teams.

"Ah, Alice, nice of you to finally join us." Reginald nods as he sees you approach. "We've been coordinating thing with the LAPD here. They already have the docks cordoned."

"You're Alice, correct? I'm Captain Johns." One of the policemen shakes you hand. "We've heard a lot of stories about you."

"Hopefully not all negative."

"Well, we know you can get the job done at least." Johns laughs. "Anyways, I've already got units to form a perimeter, and I have two choppers for air support. I also have SWAT teams on standby to help breach the building, if you need us to."

"What intel do you have? Numbers? Armament?"

"The entire building is closed off, so we have no line of sight on the interior, but our best guess is around 40-50 individuals inside the building." Johns explains. "No idea if they're armed or not, but here on the docks, it would be pretty easy to smuggle contraband in, especially if they've got magical support."

Split the difference. Guys comfortable up front and personal go with Scotty's team. The rest reinforce Reginald's team.

Alright, what I'm basically thinking here is that we have Scotty's team charge in and scare them out while Reginald's team lies in wait in key escape routes. Classic rabbit flushing. Our team serves as mid range support for Scotty's team.

The SWAT can form a safety net outside of the designated kill zone, since anything that gets to that point should already be fatigued enough for them to deal with.

It's a solid plan, little opportunity for things to go sideways.
>>
>>29641388
"Hold back SWAT and reinforce the perimeter." You say. "We'll be flushing the perps out so we'll need every body we can get to intercept them."

"Got it. I'll deploy them accordingly." Johns nods.

"I've already scouted the best possible hide spots." Reginald says. "My men are setting up as we speak."

"And my boys are gearing up for the breach!" Scotty nods. "The plan is we bust some holes into the building, toss in some tear gas, and move in once everybody's evacuated."

"Sounds reasonable." You nod.

"The only question left is the timing." Johns approaches again. "We've still got a few hours till dawn. Ideally, we'd want to hit during the daytime for better visibility, but that might give the more time to figure out what's going on."

"Why not just do it at night then?" You ask. "Don't you guys have nightvision and IR?"

"We do, but you know how night ops work. It's a lot easier to get away in the dark." Johns shrugs. "It's all up to you."

"We'll attack at dawn." You say. Traditionally, dawn was one of the best times to attack since the day watch wouldn't be awake yet, and the night watch would most likely let their guard down once the sun began to rise.

"Got it." Johns nods.

With that, everything is in position. Reginald's snipers keep a hawk's eye on the warehouse, but there's no indication of any activity. Once again, you're in the Daedalus, ready to drop down wherever you're needed.

"Are you sure there's anybody in there?" You ponder.

"IR scans show heat signatures inside. They're definitely in there." Leo nods.

"Just making sure."

Finally, the sun begins to rise, and a dull orange light begins to creep upward in the sky. Then, an alarm buzzes, letting you know that it was time to begin.

"This is Hunter Lead. Start the operation." You announce.

"HERE WE GO!" Scotty cackles. Explosive charges demolish the doors around the warehouse as Scotty's men toss tear gas grenades inside the building. Meanwhile, Daedalus and the police choppers then take position over the warehouse.

"THIS IS THE LAPD. YOU ARE ALL UNDER ARREST. COME OUT CALMLY WITH YOU HANDS UP AND YOU WILL NOT BE HURT!" You hear a police megahorn blare.

The first wave of cultists comes out, coughing and stumbling, but you see a large knot of them moving out in an organized fashion. Of course, being cultists, they were all wearing thick robes so it was harder to tell them apart.

"This is Scotty, we're clearing the warehouse!" Scotty yells.

"I don't see any MGs." Reginald says.

"Either there aren't any," You say as you look down at the cultists. "or they're hiding in warehouse or among the cultists."

"Should we try to force their hand?" Reginald asks.

"The cultists don't appear to be armed." Johns says. "But those robes can be concealing anything. Please advise."

"Release the Stalkers." You say. "If they're in there, they can sniff them out."

"Got it." Leo nods.

Once again, a metallic crate drops the ground. momentarily startling the cultists.

"ATTENTION. IF THERE ARE ANY MAGICAL GIRLS HIDING AMONG THIS GROUP, SURRENDER YOURSELVES." You say. "IF YOU SURRENDER PEACEFULLY YOU WILL NOT BE HURT!"

"Liar!" The cultists start yelling. "It's the Witch!"

Heh. Witch. That was one of the least offensive names given to you so far.

At this point, the Stalkers begin scuttling around the group, sniffing.

"Alice, this is Scotty. There's nothing in the warehouse." Scotty announces.

Shit, that must mean then-

Suddenly, the group of cultists literally explodes into activity as they scatter into various direction. Some began to run for it, while others began drawing weapons. You hear the cracks of sniper rifles as the police snipers start taking down the armed cultists while the rest of the police attempt to take down the runners with rubber bullets, beanbag rounds, tasers, and any other nonlethal weapon at their disposal.

"Hunter Lead, this is Hunter Two." You hear Reginald speak. "Should we engage the cultists?"

"Negative. Prioritize MGs." You say. "Scotty, get your men out here. We need help in crowd control.

Meanwhile, the Stalkers starting scuttling around again as they try to regain their bearings. The then start chasing several knots of cultists fleeing to the west. From what you can see, some are splitting off towards the docks, while another group is splitting off towards a storage yard filled with cargo containers. The police choppers split up to keep track of both groups.

"This is Scotty. We're loading up in the Highlander!"

Well, right now, you were in a position to intercept either group before they could reach cover.

"Daedalus. open fire." You say.

"Confirm?" The gunner asks.

"Take them out." You say more sternly. "They chose their lot."

The Daedalus' autocannons roar and the cultists below you disappear into a cloud of smoke and dust. You're quite glad you're watching from the carrier, because that meant you wouldn't have to hear the screaming.

"Targets neutralized." The gunner announces. "Wait, there' something on the IR-"

Suddenly, a bright lance of energy shoots out of the smoke cloud, spearing through the tail of the police chopper supporting you. The helicopter wobbles in the air before before bugging out, its engine leaking smoke.

"Shit, we've got an active MG!" You yell. However, you can't tell who the MG is with your sight obscured. The Stalkers, sensing a surge in magic, screech and begin to close in.

"MG spotted! We're dropping! Go go go!" You yell.

Your squad doesn't waste any time, fast roping down to the ground while Daedalus continues to pour support fire into the dust cloud. However, you see the telltale glow of a Circle doing its work.

Two of the Stalkers charge in, shrieking, when there's a brief flash and you see them drop the ground, cleaved into two pieces each.

Well shit, an all rounder MG. Just what you needed. There's another flash of light that nearly hits the Daedalus, forcing the pilot to pull back and briefly pause its supporting fire.

The dust cloud then gives away and you get a better view on your opponent.

TARGET IDENTIFIED

MAGICAL GIRL HEARTLANCER

"Mirai." You blink. "Didn't think you survived the War."

"Alice." Mirai scowls. "Don't call me by that name. I'm Heartlancer now."

"We don't have to do this." You say. However, you're not really negotiating so much as giving time for Reginald to line up a shot.

"You've sided with the Invaders." Mirai says. An energy lance forms in her hand and she tosses it behind her, lancing the Stalker attempting to sneak up on her in the face. "You killed my friends and you killed..."

Mirai's voice breaks for a bit there, and she glances to the pile of cultist bodies.

Ah, now you get it. Your support fire seemed to have taken out at least one other MG before she could transform.

"No." Heartlancer then materializes another lance. Her real one, this time, the one that gave her her namesake. "We'll have to settle this, Alice."

"Look, Mirai." You say, lowering your weapon. Leo glances at you but you just nod at him to let him know what you were doing. "Is this what you really want? Going on the run, getting people killed for no reason?"

"B-but the Invaders..." Mirai blinks.

"THERE ARE NO INVADERS." You bellow. "I don't know what sort of shit Beezlebub's been spouting to you, but I'm pretty sure I can tell the difference between a human and an Invader!"

"Wait..." Mirai's eye twitches and she stumbles for a bit. "I.... something's not right..."

Suddenly, Mirai spasms and screams as her outfit and weapon begin to dissolve into the air. You've seen this before. It was a forced detransformation. However, there were only two ways to achieve that. Either through massive damage, or from the direct will of the Companion they were connected to.

That meant he had to be close. While Leo and your team moved in to secure Mirai, your eyes begin to dart around for any signs of movement.

>>
>>29645238
You take aim. Thanks to the sheer power of your rifle, you really didn't have to worry about little things like bullet drop or wind, at least not at this range. You settle your crosshairs over the little fleeing white critter and pull the trigger. The rifle whines as the electromagnetic coils launch the loaded round, and a brief flash later you see Beezlebub explode in a puff of rainbow sparkles and flame.

One more Companion down.

"This is Hunter Lead, I've just downed a Companion." You announce on the radio. "Status check."

"We've got things wrapped up here." Scotty says happily. "Thanks to dear Leo here, I managed to bag a kill."

"As did I." Reginald harumphs. "I suppose it's been a good day."

"You're guys are okay, right Scotty? You know, paperwork." You ask, not wanting to admit you're just a little bit concerned.

"Ah, just a bunch of bumps and bruises. Nothing too bad!" Scotty laughs.

At that moment, you hear helicopter rotors above you. Curious, you raise your head and you can see not one, but several helicopters, and they weren't police.

"Great, the fucking media." You scowl. You could always just get the cops to order them away, but that usually made them pretty angry.

You briefly wonder if you should just give the helicopters the finger, or better yet, shoot at them. But then you figure you don't need to give them any more reason to think you're a bitch and decide to ignore them.

"Get a cleanup team over the storage yard. We've got some Companion remains we need to scrape off the floor."

"You know, the Science Division would really like it if you could actually bring an intact Companion corpse, or better yet, a live one." Reginald sighs.

"If they want one so bad they should ask someone else to try to catch it." You growl.

Thankfully, there weren't any reporters on the ground, but with both the police helicopters having been damaged in the fight, the cops didn't really have any way of keeping the reporters away, and using the assault carriers for that purpose was overkill.

You and the lab techs then go over the cultists, both the live and dead ones, with a fine tooth comb to make sure there weren't any more MGs in hiding. When the live ones were checked out, you inspected the dead ones, and found two. You didn't recognize them, so you assume they were trainees under Mirai's watch. That would mean in addition to Beezlebub, you had two more MG kills to your belt.

Meanwhile, Mirai, still unconscious, is tied down to a stretcher and rolled inside with four of your squad keeping an eye on her.

"Okay, let's get everything packed up, then." You sigh. "Load everything up on the Daedalus and we're out of here."

As you enter the Daedalus' transport deck, you see some of your squad watching the TV installed in the wall.

"Hey Alice, looks like we're on the news again!" One of them calls out.

"This is Felix Cooper, on Fox News, bringing you a breaking news story!" You hear the TV buzz.

Oh boy, it was Crapmouth Cooper. He just looooooved shitting on your parade.

"We're bringing you LIVE footage of yet another MGHB killing spree!" Cooper says as the camera pans down to the warehouse. There you see the three assault carriers as well as the cleanup crews moving about. "According to my sources, at least seventeen innocent people were gunned down in this engagement!"

"Aw, that's bullshit and he knows it!" One of your squaddies grunts.

"And we have confirmed that Alice Archer was leading the operation." Cooper continues, and the image cuts to the recording of you just after taking out Beezlebub. "As you know, Miss Archer has had a history of abusing her power in hurting and killing innocent civilians while hunting down Magical Girls!"

Cooper then looks the screen, a sad, but obviously staged look of grief on his face.

"For too long, we've lived under the iron boot of the MGHB, which is literally given free reign to do what it wants all over the world with almost no accountability and no due process! Well, this is AMERICA, and we should let them know that we won't stand for this!"

Of course, people were still bothered about the MGHB's wartime powers, which gave it free reign to hunt down MGs anywhere and by any means necessary, and the fact that they hadn't been revoked or limited since the end of the war. The Security Council understood the threat MGs represented if left to simmer for too long, but public opinion was slowly growing against the Bureau. You'd think people would want to prevent another Magical War from breaking out.

But... people were fucking stupid like that.

(cont)
>>
>>29646107

"Ugggghhh." You roll your eyes at Cooper's grandstanding. "Somebody change the channel before I shoot it."

One of your squaddies hits a button and the channel changes to the Food Network. Shit, now you were getting hungry.

"Well, we're ready to lift off." Leo says as steps on board. "But, uh, the reporters are already on the ground and they want an interview."

>No reporters. Let's get out of here.

"I guess we might as well humor them."

"Are you serious?" Leo blinks. "Don't you remember what happened last time?"

"Like I said before, it was self defense... mostly." You say defensively. "Plus I just want to set the record straight."

"Your funeral." Leo sighs.

You march out of the Daedalus and to the police cordon, where the reporters are being held back. You see Johns holding an impromptu press conference when you step up.

"I'm Alice Archer from the MGHB. I'm only going to be answering THREE questions, so you better make them damn good." You say flatly.

"How many Magical Girls were found in the raid? Were there even any?" One asks.

"We confirmed the presence of four Magical Girls and one Companion. The Companion and three of the Magical Girls were killed during the raid, and one Magical Girl was captured." You answer. "Next question."

"What will happen to the prisoner?" The other reporter asks. "Will she be tried in an American or international court?"

"She will be detained at our headquarters until further notice and when she is no longer deemed a threat." You say. "Next question."

"Alice, why is it that you still hunt Magical Girls, people who used to be your friends and sisters in arms? Do you get some kind of sick pleasure from it?"

Your eye twitches and focuses on the reporter that asked that question. Fuck, it wasn't even a real reporter, just one of those annoying livebloggers who thought they were hot shit because they had a camera and web host.

Your first thought is to punch him in his smug little face, but you really don't feel like being on the trending video for Youtube (again), so you decide to rein yourself in, hard as it may be. You take a deep breath.

"I don't enjoy it and neither should you." You say flatly and confidently. "I kill them because they would kill you, your friends and your family. And I will fight them. So that we don't suffer another war like the last one. It's like nobody remembers the Magic War anymore."

The smugness seems to melt away when the blogger realizes his plan didn't go the way he wanted it to, but he's quickly shoved away by more reporters.

"Like I said, I'm only answering three questions. Anything else will have to go through police channels." You say as you spin on your heel and march away back to the Daedalus.

"You did.... pretty good out there." Leo nods in respect as you walk up. "Our little Alice is growing up!"

"Shut up/" You roll your eyes. "How's Mir- the prisoner- doing?"

"Still unconscious. We're already prepping a medical team on the Freedom Star."

"Good." You say, though you're a bit depressed. You had wanted to get a word in with Mirai before she would inevitably get prodded and poked by the science team. But... no helping that now.

Your return to the Freedom Star is rather uneventful. You leave the actual busywork to Leo and you march off to talk to Bruttenholm get properly debriefed. However, Bruttenholm intercepts you in the hallway."

"Hey, General." You blink. "I was just coming to tell you mission accomplished."

"Yes, and you did a stellar job, especially with the media. There was actually a bet going on whether you would punch that reporter or not."

"Oh, I guess I made you proud, then?"

Bruttenholm then gives a wry grin. "You lost me twenty dollars."

"Sorry, I'll make it up to you someday." You can't help but chuckle.

"About that." Bruttenholm coughs and his expression becomes more serious. "We need to have a talk, Alice. I have been discussing things with the Council and... well... this concerns your future in the Bureau."

Fucking wonderful.
