Hello there, and welcome to the world of Pokemon! My name is Samuel Oak. People call me the Pokemon Professor. Our world is inhabited by extraordinary creatures called Pokemon! These fantastic creatures coexist with humans as pets, companions, and as partners in Pokemon battles!

But of course, I don't need to tell you that, do I? Your Pokemon journey began some time ago, didn't it? And now you're on your way to the beautiful Goldenrod City to participate in your first-ever Pokemon tournament! Wonderful prizes await the victor, and you and many others from all over the world have come together to participate. But before your story can begin... who are you?

Are you...

>1.) A boy?
>2.) Or a girl?

Rules: Players will vote on preferred options, either from the pre-written option or player made write ins. The decision with the most votes will be declared the victor, though the runner-up may be chosen if the winning option was blatantly against the spirit of the Quest and its enjoyment by you.

Before we can begin, you need to make your character! We'll go through it step-by-step.

Ah, I see! So you're fourteen years old, and your name is Luke? It's certainly a pleasure to meet you, Luke; every new Pokemon trainer enriches our world ever further. Tell me Luke, where's your home? Have the trip to the Johto region been a long one? And what starter Pokemon have you chosen?

Oh, goodness, how could I forget? I remember now! You'll have to excuse me; I'm not as young as I used to be, and my memory gets spotty. Well, Luke, you and your Squirtle have been all over the place, I imagine, and I bet you've had some life-changing experiences. I wonder, have you made any new friends on your Pokemon journey?

>1.) Select party.

You may have up to three Pokemon native to the Kanto region (but can choose to have less), and your Squirtle counts as one of the three, but those besides your starter cannot be other starters, legendary, or only accessible by special means. The max level for your Pokemon is 20, though only one of the three may be 20 as of now. You can choose to have evolved any Pokemon who can by their level, such as Squirtle to Wartortle, or you may choose to keep them in their original forms. The two Pokemon who receive the most votes (or one or none if enough players choose so) will be selected, regardless of the pairings in which they're suggested by players.

Hey, behave yourself! There's no need to be so rude to a fellow trainer... oh. Hrm. Now that I think about it... that's right, his name WAS Richard! It all makes sense then; sorry about overreacting. Though I think I remember him saying something about preferring to be called "Rich"... Yes, you and Richard both received your Pokemon from me; and now it seems you're both on your way to Goldenrod, a whole region over, to compete in the Junior Division of this year's Charity Tournament! I wish you both luck and safe travels.

Are you ready? Your Pokemon journey is about to continue!

...

You're shaken awake by shaking of the train. Your eyes blink open, and you glance around, startled. It's been a long train ride to get here, but the buzzing intercom tells you it's finally over.

"Now pulling into Goldenrod City station. All passengers, please prepare to depart."

This is it, then! Your legs tremble as you get out of your seat, pulling your bag on and fastening it to your back. You're so close now, you can almost taste the electricity in the air; today is the day you enter the Junior Division at the charity tournament being held in the city here. Over the next few weeks, you'll fight trainers and battle your way to the top (if all goes well), and maybe even be crowned champion of the division! Prizes, glory, and more await you. But what drives you the most is...

>1.) The oodles of prize money!
>2.) The chance for fame and glory!
>3.) The opportunity to get valuable experience for my Pokemon.

You grab the brim of your hat, and tug it down. Money is nice, but it's only a perk. What you want is a name. To BE somebody. And then maybe he'll realize you're not just some waste of space. Your other hand cups around one of three Pokeballs around your waist. You press on the capsule and let it enlarge in your hand. It feels natural. This is definitely your calling: to be a Pokemon trainer!

"Now arriving in Goldenrod City. If this is your stop, please depart through the nearest available doors on the right side of the train. Thank you for your patronage."

The kind lady on the intercom goes away, and several sliding doors open on the appropriate side. Dozens of people begin shuffling out the doors.

You let the people go fist. You're unfamiliar with this city, and you wouldn't like to get swept away in a big crowd to somewhere dangerous. But as the people melt away, one stranger remains. Glaring at you.

On the other side of the train car, a boy about your age is reclining casually in his seat, his arm stretched across the back. His hair is brown and feathered, and he's glaring at you from behind his oval blue sunglasses. "Well well well. Didn't think I would run into a punk like you all the way out here... Luke."

"Don't be so premature, Dick. This isn't the place for a fight." You wouldn't know it from looking at his beet-red face though, as he stands up, knuckles clenched.

"Oh, you are not doing this!"

With a dismissive wave and a smirk you bid him farewell. "Sorry, but I've gotta go. Can't keep dicking around, you know." As you head to the door you can hear him sprinting up toward you, so once you're one step out the door you swivel around and watch as he comes up face-to-face with you. "Don't you ignore me, you jerk!" he roars, ripping a Pokeball off your belt. "It's the official League rules! Once you've made eye contact with a trainer, you can't deny a challenge! We're fighting right here, right now, and you are going to take your lumps for being such a prick!"

That IS true, you admit, but maybe this is a bad place...

The automated door shuts between you and Richard as it prepares for departure. There is a pause, and his eyes widen as he realizes what is happening. And then, he begins pounding on the door rapidly, shouting something you can't hear as the train pulls out of the station. You wave goodbye to Dick as he dwindles off into the horizon. You can't help but laugh as you walk off. All of Goldenrod City lies before you, and with no pesky jerks to bother you as you explore it!

Where will you go?

Well, you've got a lot to do. You need to find a room, get a spot in the tournament, and... and...

Why does your belt feel lighter? The gears in your head turn. Something's fishy. Your memory shoots back to just a moment ago, when Richard tried to snatch your Pokeball and force you to battle with him. The door shut before he could, and the train departed. Departed with your Pokemon on board.

You burst into a cold sweat, checking which two remain in your possession. "Oh, no! GASTLY!"

Your feet slam onto the train tracks, sprinting down the way as fast as you can after that train. Your fists shake wildly in the air as you scream to high heaven the ways you're going to make that fool pay for what he's done. "YOU THINK YOU CAN GET AWAY WITH STEALING MY POKEMON DICK?! SCREW BATTLES I'M GONNA DECK YOU IN YOUR FREAKING FACE YA HEAR?! I'LL THROTTLE YOUUUUU!!!"

But you are young, and no athlete. You can only get so far before your legs break down, and you collapse to your knees, panting for breath. This was dumb; there's no way you're catching a train on foot. Dick's off who-knows-where with poor Gastly...

But before that can sink in any further, the sound of police sirens grabs your attention. Below the tracks runs a city street, and at the bottom a young officer is stepping out of her car. The blue-haired woman shields her eyes from the sun as she stares up at you. "What in the... hey, kid! What are you doing up there?! Those are train tracks, that's incredibly dangerous!!"

>1.) Officer, I need your help; my Pokemon's on that train!
>2.) Somebody stole my Pokemon!
>3.) She's only going to make trouble. Run down the tracks and get out of her sight.
>4.) Try something else.

>>
>>29670784
Option #2, obviously.
She can give Luke a ride to anywhere else afterward.
>>
>>29670733
Exactly. In fact, they can mean even more to a trainer given that they tend to travel the world with just their Pokemon for comfort. That, coupled with the fact that the pokemon he stole was likely captured at a low level and been trained up to lv. 20, means it's like he stole our CHILD. A bit of an exaggeration, true, but jesus christ he's a dead man and I won't rest until he's fucking paste under our shoes.

If he fucks off an shows up later with our pokemon under his command... I might lose it, and I don't even PLAY pokemon anymore.

OP, please have that be a mistyping on your part. I figure it is, and that you're not intentionally having our rival 'accidentally' steal one of our pokemon.
>>
>1.) Officer, I need your help; my Pokemon's on that train!
In all fairness he didn't really mean to be off to the next town with our pokemon
>>
>>29670784
>>1.) Officer, I need your help; my Pokemon's on that train!

Seriously, though--don't we have to go down to the station and file a police report? Do they have Pokemon Amber Alerts? I mean, unless each Pokemon is genetically printed to each Pokeball, there's really no way you could possibly find a trafficked Pokemon.
>>
>>29670784
>1.) Officer, I need your help; my Pokemon's on that train!

It *was* an accident.
>>
>>29670784
>2.) Somebody stole my Pokemon!
Tell her it's on the train, and have her call ahead to the next stop so she can have someone catch Richard.

As soon as he grabbed our pokeball without our consent it was theft. Him getting stuck on the train was an accident, sure, but that doesn't mean he's not at fault here.

Yes, but he still took the pokeball without our consent. That's theft any way you slice it.

Also, we need to get ourselves a set of dark sunglasses so that fucking eye-contact rule won't allow jerks like this to pressure us into duels. Because that rule is stupid as hell and we'd look bitching with some cool shades and a sweet hat.

"Officer!" you cry, running to the edge of the tracks and leaning over. "I need your help; my Pokemon's on that train!"

She gapes at you and says, "What?"

"My Pokeball got taken, and it's still on that train!"

The officer seems to sober up after the initial confusion, and slams a fist into her upturned palm. "Say no more, Officer Jenny's here to help! Taking someone else's Pokeball is inexcusable!" She beckons you down from the tracks. "Come down here! I can put a call forward to the next stop to search the train and get the culprit before he gets off. I'll take you straight there."

"Er, it's kind of a long jump..."

If anything, going with Option #2 could be riskier than going with any other.
If the Officer finds your claim to be true after confronting both parties, Dick could be kicked out of the league at least for now.
If she finds it to be false after confronting both parties, Luke would end up getting in a lot of legal mire.
I may just change my mind to the first option.
>>
>>29670950
No, but he grabbed our fucking pokeball, dude. That's not cool, and most certainly against the 'rules of engagement' for pokemon trainers.

>>29670962
I think the idea is that trainers aren't required to battle if they meet eye contact, but once they have they're not allowed to refuse a challenge. Which is fucking retarded - I would do as you suggest and just sit outside the pokemon center, challenging guys with weakened/KOed pokemon and taking their cash (as that's a real in-universe thing).

I mean, it accurately portrays how some of the NPCs in Pokemon work, but it's still a really, really stupid rule.

Calling it right now
If he gets arrested for this shit, he's turning into a Rocket down the line.
There's no way league rules let a pokemon thief continue to train pokemon legally.
We need to let her know that it was an accident, and maybe even imply that we handed it to him for a moment to show off or something. I'm calling in the "just between us" clause of rivalry. Can't let anyone else interfere in us giving his pokemon a fair and righteous face-stomping.
Also I think we're more of the rival to his main character, from our actions on the train.

We're not going to get him arrested. We're just going to get our pokemon back, tell him to chill the fuck out, and move on. Heck, I'd be okay with us trying to mend things with him after we get our pokeball back. Something the lines of:

Luke: You know, I'm not even that mad about what happened. It was a stupid accident, right?
Rich: Yeah, seriously Luke. I was just trying to...
Luke: To what? Pick a fight?
Rich: Something like that. Look, you were being a di- I mean a jerk to me on the train.
Luke: So were you. (pause) Look, I'm tired of getting into fights with you over stupid shit. Things went too far today. So, let's just bury the hatchet, okay? We don't have to be friends, but we could at least stop being enemies, okay?
Rich: I... maybe. It's just...
Luke: yeah. We've hated each other's guts for so long, I don't even remember why. Am I right?
Rich: (pause) Okay. (grins) But I'm still going to beat you in the tournament later, Luke.
Luke: You're on... Rich.

Well, what else can you possibly do right now? Walking won't get you anywhere, and if you take too long another train might just come and run you over! As crazy as the jump sounds, you're going to do. You'll have to risk it for Gastly's sake.

"All right, here I come!" With a hup and heave you fling yourself over the railing, arms spread out to slow your descent as you go tumbling off the railroad tracks. You scream, and you hope you're just imagining that warm spot on your legs. This was a bad idea; a terrible idea! Why did you DO this?!

You don't even notice Officer Jenny pulling a Pokeball out of her pocket. She tosses it into the air at you, shouting, "I choose you, Teddi-Bear!"

The ball breaks open, and in a flash of white light a tremendous brown bear comes flying at you.

"URSSSSAAAAAAAA!"

It snatches you up in its massive arms and hugs you close as you both land. His stocky legs absorb the impact, and you and he both wince as the concrete sinks beneath him. Your shaking body is released by the bear-like Pokemon, and he pats you on the head with an affectionate "Urs!" As your vision returns Jenny comes running over to check on you herself.

"That was one heck of a fall, kid! You all right?"

"Yeah, I'm fine," you say as you dust yourself off. Jenny doesn't really looks like she believes you; good thing, too, because even you're not sure if that's the truth. That crazy bear can jump!

With no more time to lose, she calls back her Pokemon. She beckons you to her cruiser and you hop into the passenger seat. She gets into her side of the vehicle and straps on her seatbelt. "Buckle up, kid!" You do as she commands, and you're immediately grateful. When she hits the gas pedal your head hits the headrest. She swerves into traffic and goes screaming down the streets at a speed entirely unsafe for any urban environment. She seems to think that putting her sirens on lowers the danger. You don't feel safer.

"All right, kid," she says, eyes strictly on the road in a surprisingly sensible decision. "I'm going to call ahead and stop that train. Can you describe the perp to me?"

He's a minor. He's not going to get a 25-year sentence. Worst case he's in there until he's 18 and then gets out, all buff and shit and ready to kick our skinny ass for being such a massive asshole.

No - the worst thing is they just ban him from being able to own / use pokemon, sending him into fits of horror and depression for weeks while he contemplates never being able to 'be the very best', after which he lives a perfectly normal, productive life.

>Jaded Pokemon Trainer Quest

Every other choice would involve us drowning our depression in alcohol. Every other battle--against wild pokemon or otherwise--would be with us being drunk. Hell, there would be at least one sequence where we go off on some tirade over the world's cruelties to some fucking teenaged trainers that had the misfortune of being in the same elevator as us while we're shopping at a department store. Oh, and we'd flirt with all of the female gym leaders. All of them.

The only way the quest would end is with us confronting our long-retired Rival, gun in hand, on the roof of a building.

If we don't tell her it was an accident, she'll make a big deal out of it, resulting only in Rich hating us more and forcing us to correct her on the spot.

Rich may be a jerk, but he's still just a kid.
>>
>>29671953
He stole from us on purpose anon.

That shit is theft. How he escaped is an fucking accident.
>>
>>29671953
Being a kid doesn't excuse you from anything.

You tell her everything that comes to mind about Richard. "About as tall as I am, brown feathered hair, wears a blue jacket..." after a minute you've given her the most apt description you can, but before she can call it in you ask, "Hey, Officer Jenny?"

"Yeah, kid?"

"Could you... go easy on him?"

"Huh?" she balks.

"I'm pretty sure it was an accident. He still grabbed it without asking for it, but I think he didn't mean to steal it. He's a jerk, but he's not a thief." You pause and sheepishly avert your eyes. "I just want my Pokemon back, all right?"

Jenny shrugs, and smiles reassuringly at you. "If you say so, kid." She picks up the radio and starts chatting with someone on the other line, describing Richard and asking for someone to detain him at the next stop. You don't pay much attention and press your face up against the glass, watching the city pass by at screaming, terrible speeds. You hope Gastly is okay by herself.

You know you've arrived when the car stops dead in its tracks, and with all of your strength you stop yourself before your head smacks right into the dashboard. "We're here!" the police officer says, stating the obvious. Out on the street, at the bottom of the staircase is a police officer holding Gastly's Pokeball. His other hand is firmly planted on Richard's shoulder, to make sure he doesn't run off. Richard was always kinda whiny, but you've never seen him like this. He looks like he's about to cry, and not out of rage like when you call him Dick. Your stomach starts to turn looking at him; it's not even satisfying, really, just pathetic.

Officer Jenny opens your door for you, and you hop onto the sidewalk, approaching Richard. He's watching you in trepidation waiting to see what you'll do.

I'm also the guy who said we should chase him down to the ends of the earth. I still think he should be forgiven, if only because it would probably be better for both of us if we weren't at each other's throats all the time. That's what got us into this mess.

>>29672006
I think being a kid excuses you from certain things. This seems like an accident to me. It's not like he assaulted us or anything.

As someone who was a victim of bullies for years, I can tell you that this is borderline funny compared to the kind of shit kids can cook up. We should tell him to knock it off, move on, and if he does it again we get Officer Jenny to enforce the long arm of the law of his ass.

I think we can make him our friend, or at least have him stop being an enemy. We can still be rivals without being jerks to each other, like Ritchie and Ash from the show.

You steel yourself, and looking as stern as you can be you approach Richard and the officer. You step to the side of your rival, but don't say a word to him. All you do is toss a mean look his way as you retrieve Gastly's Pokeball. He visibly shrinks under your gaze and drops of sweat are visible around his hairline. You turn your back to him and walk a few steps away. And once you're a fair distance, you toss the Pokeball.

"Come on out, Gastly!"

There's a flash of light, and your Gastly appears before you. "Gas, Gas!" the happy little ghost exclaims as she sees you, and dives into your arms, nuzzling against you and making happy noises at your reuniting. You can't help but lose your stern demeanor and start giggling as you hug your friend.

"Well, that's one happy ending!" Jenny comments, striking a silly pose. But then she puts a hand on her hip, and frowns. "But... that still leaves what to do with you." Her eyes drift towards Richard, who instantly starts spitting bullets out of his sweating pores. "I really should be arresting you for theft, intentional or otherwise... but this kid hasn't asked to press charges. So I think we can compromise." She flicks the brim of her hat up with a finger and looks your way. "So, what do you say, kid? Do we let him off wit a warning?"

"B-but Sergeant!" exclaims the other cop. "That's completely against regula--"

Jenny's ball cracks open, and a terrifying Teddi-Bear looms over the man. He decides not to question his superior on this matter any further.

You dismiss the issue with a wave of your hand. "Let him go." The officer yields and releases him. Richard rotates his shoulder to let out the tension in his muscles, approaching you with ginger steps. He still poses himself to look confident and aloof as he looks at you. Slowly he extends a hand. "I didn't mean to take your Pokemon, Luke. Even if I wanted it, I'd just train a better one myself. So... thanks, for being understanding."

"Yeah." You take his hand and shake it, smirking at him as you do so. "But I totally could have sent you to prison for it. You owe me now, Dick."

You think you see veins bulge in his hand as he jerks his hand back, mouth fixed into a furious scowl. You really blindsided him with that one. "Y-y-you..! Oh, like HELL you do! I'll pay you back all right Little Luke, by wrecking you in the tournament! You just remember that; my sister and I are the real rising stars here. Next time I win, maybe you'll accept that you're second class!"

He doesn't stick around any longer, dashing off down the street and melding into the crowds of tourists here for the tournament. Officer Jenny sighs, rubbing the back of her neck exasperated. "Maaaaybe could've handled that with a little more tact there, kid. That kid needs to work on his anger issues. Like, I can't tell if he hates your guts or he's crushing on you."

"Wait, what?"

Jenny apparently doesn't hear your question. "He said your name was Luke, right? And that you're here for the tournament? I'm guessing you just arrived in Goldenrod City, and you need a place to stay."

You tell her that, indeed, you do.

"Well... here's the bad news... just about every hotel is booked full already. People have been reserving lodging for over five months prepping for this event."

Your jaw drops. "Then... where am I supposed to stay?! I don't wanna sleep in a Pokemon Center!"
>>
>>29673077
"Oh, relax," she says, patting your head in a teasing move. "I'm doing you a favor, kiddo! There's a neat little spot just a few blocks from here called the Sleeping Sunkern. It doesn't get a lot of business, so they're bound to have a few rooms left."

You don't really know what to say to her hospitable gesture.

"Don't say anything!" she insists. "Just tell them that Officer Jenny sent you, okay?" She leans in close and whispers, "Lady that runs the joint bakes an extra batch of food for me whenever I send her new customers."

That... sounds like bribery of an officer of the law. But you don't have much time to question her on it, as she instantly hops into her cruiser and revs the engine. "See you around, Lukey!" she yells over the roaring engine, her car streaking off as she does.

You're left alone in front of the train stop with Gastly floating beside you, feeling very much like a hurricane just passed through your life.

You traverse the busy streets of Goldenrod with your trusty sidekick, Gastly. The whole city's really come out for this tournament. Thousands of pedestrians clog the sidewalks, and traffic jams are the order of the day in the streets. You don't even want to know how Officer Jenny navigated through that mess. Food carts are selling overpriced and greasy foods; perfect fare for an event like this, and even you admit it's more enticing than expected. You pass by a television broadcasting some news story or another. The volume's turned up and you catch a bit of it as you pass.

"On the fiscal front, FaeCorp's stock has been plummeting in value for the last six months. FaeCorp, responsible for the revolutionary medical technology employed in Pokemon Centers worldwide, began its woes this last winter when they mysteriously ceased all production on their latest line of Pokemon Resuscitation Devices, allowing Silph Co. to edge into the market with their own PRDs. Deepening the mystery is the seclusion and mysterious behavior of FaeCorp's CEO, business tycoon Titania Alta. A gifted but eccentric woman personally responsible for the original PRD's development, she has shut herself off from all contact with the outside world and has refused to give interviews. However, FaeCorp is still active, but now as a *charity* organization of all things, sponsoring this year's exhibition tournament in Goldenrod City. Is this the start of a new chapter in the corporation's history, or is it the beginning of the end? More at 11!"

You hate the news. It's always so boring and detached from life. You take a left at the next intersection and discover yourself in a quieter street than the norm. It's almost peaceful here, and little of the traffic has interest in this corner of the city made up mostly of apartment buildings. But there's one small, three-story building that nabs your attention. It would be nondescript if not for the cutesy little Sunkern happily chirping on the big sign nailed to the front. "The Sleeping Sunkern Inn," you read. This must be the place. You approach the door and push against it...

And something pushes back.

"Whoa, nelly!"

"AUROOOO--"

You're nearly crushed as the door is opened by pressure from the other side, and a massive Tauros comes barging on through. Its wide frame knocks you away and to the ground, stampeding on through without a care in the world. You're left sprawled on the floor and rubbing your aching rear as its trainer pursues it out the door, a cloudy-eyed young man with black hair styled into two wings flaring back on either side of his head. A flock of wingulls cut? Those went out of style decades ago. Sense of taste present or not, the man waves at his Tauros in consternation. "Max! MAX! Come on you big fluffy ball of crazy, slow down!" He notices you after a moment, and glances at you with a bizarre frown on his face. "Whoopsy-daisy. Sorry about Max, he gets antsy indoors. Uh... y'okay?"

"Yeah, fine." You offer up a hand for him to take and lift you up. He doesn't, and just keeps watching his finicky Tauros prance around the outside of the inn. Eventually you get sick of waiting and push yourself up, your unfortunately armless Gastly cheering you on. You stare at the bizarre man, and realize just how odd he looks once you're not viewing him from the floor. He has a visible slouch that probably takes a full five or six inches off his actual height. His black shirt isn't well taken care of, and besides a few holes also has lots of what you assume is Tauros hair stuck to its sleeves. His face is oily and while handsome, it's poorly groomed with a lazy layer of stubble where he hasn't bothered to take a razor. His eyes are sunken in, and shadows hang so heavily over the baggy things you can't even tell what color they are. He's spacing out, you're pretty sure, because there's a sort of glazed look to him right now. Without any trigger on your part he appears to remember your presence and looks back to you.

"Uh... who are you?"

"Who, me?" he asks with a friendly grin. "I'm..." he holds up a finger as his jaw goes slack. Did he... did he really forget his own name? He keeps the finger held up as he bows his head and thinks to himself for a minute.

"Auroo?" asks the Tauros, inching closer to his trainer.

"Oh, right!" he exclaims, as if the Poke-speech actually meant something he understood. "Name's Simon! And this wonderful hunk of hamburger here is named Maximum Bison!"

You look at the Tauros quietly. It returns your gaze, unblinking. Okay then.

"Max for short," Simon explains.
>>
>>29673816
You ask, "Well, why does 'Max' get antsy indoors?"

"Claustrophobia!" the trainer announces with a big grin wholly inappropriate to the discussion. "He gets uncomfortable in crowds. Stampedes." Simon frowns, and shakes his head. "That never ends well." But he perks up again and asks, "What brings you to the Sleeping Sunkern, Luca?"

"So are you an employee," you ask Simon. "or are you here for the tournament too?"

"Second one," he says with a quirked smile. "Money for things is always nice, so might as well shoot for the pot. Not really much of a trainer, though. Too much work, such a drag..." The word seems to have reminded him, as he pulls a cigarette from his pocket and lights it up with a match that he yanked out with it. He takes a deep puff of the tobacco and lets it roll out between his lips slowly. The smell revolts you, but Simon just grins through smokey teeth. "Sorry, pal. You wanted a room, right? Go on inside, Remy'll fix you up."

With a wave he beckons you into the lobby. For such a tiny place, you're astounded by all the activity. About six individuals are bustling about the tiny room. Behind the counter by a cash register sits a tiny old woman with grey hair and glasses too thick to see her eyes through. Leaning on the counter beside her is a roguish looking man with red hair and a leather jacket, rolling a shrunken Ultra Ball between his fingers.

Off in separate corners are a meek looking couple of people; a girl about your age with blue hair holding her bag against her stomach. The other one's a boy, but a little older, blonde, and wringing a cap in his hands as he nervously watches people come and go. There is a green-haired gentleman off against the wall polishing a--sword? What in the world is a guy walking around with a sword for? And there's also a brown-haired girl dashing back and forth alongside a Machoke, moving furniture and plates of food around through various doors and up staircases.

All of their eyes turn to you when you enter.

"Always a pleasure meeting a potential customer. I take it you're new in Goldenrod if you managed to stumble across this place. We go, eh... a little unnoticed. You already know my name's Remy. Who're you?"

You tell him your name, and see the lady behind the counter jot down your name on a piece of paper. The red haired man pulls at his collar and gives you a thumbs-up. "It's a pleasure, Luke! How are you enjoying our fine city so far? A real gem, ain't she? I can tell by your little floaty pal you've come for the tournament. I've got an eye for these things." He leans over and puts a hand on your shoulder. "And I've also got an eye for good deals. You've really hit upon the sweet spot of the city. The creme de la creme, if you will. I mean, there's a lot of demand for a spot like this in case you didn't notice; so of course it costs a little extra, but it's well worth the YOWCH!"

The old lady from behind the counter's pulled a cane from beside her seat and rapped it right against Remy's elbow. "For pete's sake, Remy, it's just some poor kid! Quit swindling the poor creature and give him the rates."

"Owowow..." he whines, rubbing the afflicted area.

"And apologize to him, dagnabbit, or I'll go for the ear this time!" She menaces the supposed tough guy with her cane as he backs away, pleading for mercy.

"All right, Gramgram, all right! Just don't hit me again, yeesh..." He looks pretty embarrassed as he bows his head to you while rubbing his arm. "Uh, sorry about that, Luke. Old habits die hard. The standard rate is $110 a night in the standard suite." A growl from "Gramgram" gets him to add "Fifteen percent off if you stay for more than five days."

That's certainly well within your price range, and based on what Officer Jenny said, it's probably the best deal you're going to get this late in the running. You're not sure if you like that this guy's already tried to trick you out of extra money, though.

>1.) Yeah, I can afford that.
>2.) On second thought, maybe I'll just stay at the Pokemon Center.
>3.) "Old habits"?
>4.) Ask for a minute to think on it. (Talk to somebody else.)
>5.) Do something else.

It's a fair enough going rate, and you had honestly expected to pay a little more. You tell the old lady, "Gramgram" that you'd like to rent a room for duration of the tournament. "Oh, and I'm supposed to mention Officer Jenny recommended me here."

"Oh, thank you for letting me know," the old lady says, scribbling down notes to herself. "Such a sweet girl, always helping me find new customers. And she doesn't even have to try and SWINDLE people like this lunkhead!" The cane swings dangerously close to Remy, and he backs away. "Come on, Gramgram, I'm right here!"

"Dang right you are! You're sitting around when you could be working like Marissa! But do you do it? No! Of course you don't! You always just laze around and try to take the easy way out by--"

"Hey, Remy?"

Remy doesn't hear the voice, yelling back at the old woman. "Are you kidding me? I spend all cleaning this place! I dare you to find a speck of dust in this room: just one!"

"Remy!"

You're trapped between the arguing pair, trying not to get caught in the crossfire as they lob volleys at one another. Just as it starts to develop into serious shouting, the voice trying to interrupt gets heard. "Remy!"

"What?!" he shouts at Simon, who's poked his head into the door. The man outside clears his throat and quietly comments.

"Job's done."

"What job?"

"You told me to keep an eye out for her, right?" He points behind him. "She's coming back."

The redhead's eyes go wide, and you see his skin paling. "Aw, crap! What does she want this time?!"

"I don't know," Simon comments. "But she's--urk!"
>>
>>29674460
"'Scuse me, comin' through!" A hand reaches up and grabs Simon by the back of his collar, yanking him out of sight. A chill runs down your spine. You know that voice.

In through the door steps a young woman. Her brown hair is done up in a high ponytail that trails down to her waist. Her clothes, a button-up shirt and black jeans, are tight and show off her frightening musculature. Her bright green eyes are vicious and, just as you'd feared, focused on you. The woman rubs her bicep, an unsettling grin on her face.

"Oh-ho, man! It's my lucky day! I don't even have to look for ya!"

You try to back away, but you're already up against the counter. There's nowhere you can run as she storms up to you, balling your shirt collar in her fist and dragging you right up to her face. Ecstatic, she exclaims "I've been meaning to have a little chat with ya, Luke! Word around town is you've been picking on my baby brother."

She pulls you a little closer, and you bend your neck back to try and get further away. Your eyes are filled with the image of her sadistic smile. She's tasted blood; you're not escaping now.

"You wouldn't happen to know anything about that... would ya?"

This is Daria, Richard's older sister.

...

Calling it a night here. Thanks for the huge first thread, everybody! I never expected it to get so much response. I had a blast running it, let me know what you thought of the Quest so far, good or bad.

I'll be making a Twitter eventually, so look out for that whenever the next thread comes around.

Next thread, there might even be a Pokemon battle!

This is /tg/, Anon. It's going to happen. All we can do is delay it as long as possible.

I believe /tg/ can be better than that.

Then you haven't been on /tg/ long. /tg/ is only good at doing two things.

Is uh... there going to be pokedeath? Nuzlocke or anything? Could be interesting. Give us some development or something.
