-QM Disclaimer-
I have never run a Quest before, I type at a glacial speed, and a shiny object might distract me at any moment. Hell, I meant to start this three hours ago.

I enjoy random rolls and tables, many of which I won't be sharing beforehand for spoiler reasons.
As a GM/DM, I tend toward sandbox campaigns. As a QM, we'll see how well I can keep that up.
I'll likely use a mix of die rolls, and low/high as well, depending on the situation, but we'll see what works out best for us.

Choices: I'm going to try and keep a theme going of '[]' being for choices, and occasionally dropping '/' into things for sub-selections and personality/emotional choices. As we develop the character the choices should become more tailored to what we've expressed so far.

Good luck, thanks for your patience, and here's hoping we all have fun!

4. [Modern] A world seemingly like the on we live in, modified by other choices.
5. [Space Opera] Space travel and high technology are the order of the day.
6. [Supers] Tights and Capes do battle large and small.
7. [Apocalypse/Post Apocalypse] "You bastards, you blew it all up."/natural disasters/supernatural /disasters/aliens/war/etc
8. [Anarchonistic] Worlds with technologies and societies that seem mismatched or unusual compared to our world's standards. ie: Most alternate tech-base '-punks', Flintstones, magictech, Rome with tanks, etc.
9. [Write-in] Wildcard.. Though this section wide-open enough the whole thing is pretty much a write-in with example ideas.

The boring peasant life was yours to be had, the world was clean.. always clean and neat.
All the plots of land and cottages always perfectly spaced, perfectly portioned.
The lords of the land treated everyone well, made sure everyone was well fed and healthy.
Violence was unheard of, anyone displacing such.. unruly behavior simply stopped being around.
Particularly healthy and attractive peasants could even be elevated to serve the Lords and Ladies in their strongholds.

There were blemishes, of course, everyone knew to avoid The Woods and The Unkempt Places.
Things lurked there. Some didn't like the Lords and Ladies.. some didn't like anything. Those outside the walls always had fear that one day, the Things would come out from their hiding places and take want they wanted.
Always people must strive to please the Lords and Ladies and be Healthym so that they may one day be invited behind the safe walls.
Sad that you can't see anyone left behind until they make it in.. but why would anyone want to leave anyway?

Chance, gambling, poking your nose where you shouldn't.. You do what you can to keep the monotony of your existence from driving you the the glassy-eyed stupor you feel so many others 'live' in.

So you took to poking into The Woods, abet keeping to the brightest days and often scurrying right back out, but even that makes you the most adventurous person you've heard of. You don't really hear people talk of adventure, outside of children before they are old enough to understand that is a 'bad' thing. Most tales are about how foolish someone was, and how terrible the things that happened to them as a result.
But fuck that, you're going to have an adventure if it kills you. You [do]/[don't] see the danger in that statement.

You keep this up for some time..

Sure you may have wet yourself once or twice, but you were pretty sure you say a demon or a particularly nasty deer. Still, you are head and shoulders braver than most folk you know.
You do find that the farther from night you are, the less scares you recieve, thus you find yourself packed up for a longer hike than usual, to take advantage of the longest day of the year. Traditionally, the Lords and Ladies bid everyone to spend this day indoors and contemplating how best to serve them. It is a chance of real trouble to head out , but you've got to take this opportunity to explore further than you have before.

The morning pass uneventfully, but as Noon approaches you find yourself nearing a small structure, an 'Unkempt Place'.. something draws you closer despite your fear. A strange crosspiece etched over the doorway.
The inside is surprisingly modest, dusty and empty save for a life-sized engraving of figures on one wall, figures seeming to offer a chair. The chair itself actually extends enough to actually be sat on.
You have been walking for awhile, it might be a good time to stop for lunch, it is nearly high-sun..

You sit and look around this strange building, and wonder what the Lords and Ladies fear of these places, judging from the dust inside, nothing has walked here for some time, and the untrammeled plants outside seem to indicate that nothing has gone near the entrance to this nice safe dry place for a long time.
Glancing out the door as you pull a piece of bread from you pact you see the shadows disappear outside as high-sun on the longest day hits.
You feel a pang of sadness that you should probably head back after this, you enjoy how alive this trips make you feel, if only you lived in more interesting-

And then everything gets chaotic, the world in front of you splits open and a.. rip.. a tear.. a <Portal> appears.

You blink as knowledge that is not your own tells you that is is a Gateway, a passage, and if taken.. your desire to keep traveling and leave this terrifyingly monotonous world behind..

You spend a few moments focusing and you feel the tug of that new knowledge lurking within you.
You are now aware that you can gain insight into the nature of a reality that you visit.

While trying to wrap your mind around this concept, a few salient facts about this 'world' are made known to you:

The primary factor of this dimension is Water.
Landmasses gather and float on the interior of 'worlds' of air, such as the one you are now on.

Anything beyond that you are uncertain of at this time, you skill with this ability is still new, as is trying to understand the information it gives you.
For instance, you aren't sure where the diffuse light in the sky is coming from.

Further inland, trees and plants the likes of which you have never seen await.
Out to sea you glimpse other islands, glints of fish, and even swear you saw two little spouts of water dance around each other.

You feel more alive than you ever had before, even if you have a dull ache in your head and your body thrums with abilities you don't understand.

All and all, you reflect, this is the start of a lovely Adventure.

As a new quest runner, I recommend that you run each your Quests in same time of day every time.
That way you'll get mostly the same audience every time and thus the character will keep some consistency as the attitude of the character can shift radically with it's audience.
>>
>>29727900
Agreed. Typically it will be evenings on weekdays, and at least weekly.
Suggestion has been that shorter sessions more often might be better than running longer sessions more often. Any thoughts on that?
>>
>>29728054
It's entirely up to you.
It's okay to have one thread per week if you're willing to sink around 5 hours to it minimum and announce them a good while beforehand on twitter.
However, if you're doing shorter threads more often, you have to be consistent with them and you're going to have to sink a lot more hours into them per week than on the longer threads in order to keep an audience.

Like for example, if you run shorter quests, you'd need to do it at least 3-4 days per week if you want to gather an audience.

There are 3 things that gather an audience.
Consistency, Quantity and Quality
Take a look at the DBZ quest by Somnius for example, it's lacking in quality and it's arguably one of the worst quests in /tg/, but it still has followers because he runs it practically every day around the same time.
>>
>>29728233
Heh, I think I might be alright then. I would try to run at least 5 hours even for the shorter runs. The longer would be when I can run until 3am without screwing my work schedule.
Though considering that it takes me 15-20 minutes to post once a choice is made, longer may still be better.
Eah, I'll probably just let things develop as they will and see were we find the best groove.

Quest resumes shortly.

>Recap time

You are Nick Trimmers, recently a dissatisfied peasant barber from a terrifying medieval utopia of thatched-roof cottages, enforced health programs, and Things Peasentkind is Not Meant to Know.
The Lords and Ladies watched over all, and kindly took many into their loving care within their castles, never to return of course- who would want to?

But you were made of sterner stuff, or at least stuff that is more easily unhappy in a world of enforced monotony.
You struck out durning the day and explored The Woods and looked into the Unkempt Places, abet fleeing in terror a few times, but still you returned.

On the longest day of the year, a traditional day of staying indoors and contemplating how great and benevolent the Lords and Ladies are, you set forth on your longest hike, to see just how far you could get under cover of daylight.

You went farther than you ever could have imagined.

Resting in a strange seat inside a curiously untouched building, a tear between worlds opened at high-sun as you enjoyed a bit of mutton and lamented the need to head back soon. Knowledge filled you, warning you that to stand from that perilous seat and step forward would answer your desire for travel and an interesting life..

Seeing an opportunity that comes once in a lifetime, he stepped into the breech and was gone from the world he knew.
Between worlds, Powers responded to his Need and he was gifted with great Ability, and even greater Potential, to tap into the flow between realities.. and he's still trying to figure out what that means. All he's certain of right now is that there is a lot locked away within him mind and that his body fairly tingles with potential energies.

For the moment he is gathering his bearings on a beach the likes of which he has never seen before (Aside: He's never seen a beach before). Strange tropical trees and plants form the edge of the jungle along the beach, out to 'sea' and into the 'sky' above he can see shallows bracketed by much darker waters and dotted with the occasional vibrant patch of green marking islands and atolls.

Random flip between first and third person fail.

As a lad, you enjoyed floating and kicking in your family tub, and as you grew you were saddened that one large enough as an adult would mark you as 'out of place', but on you trips into The Woods, you found a creek, and despite the tales and warnings against moving water.. you risked it.
Nearly drowned the first time, and fled some slimy creature twice.. but the lure of the water always brought you back.

Unlike the frigid waters of the creek, these waters are warm and inviting, and you power through the water with a freedom you've never felt before. Fear giving way to laughter as the small creatures swimming in the waters flee from you before you flee from them.

"Was that yours? It was funny and on our beach and some of it was tasty! Then you scared us away! That wasn't nice! ..Are you not nice?"
On that last sentence he actually slows down his words and lets that question hang, as he speaks you catch sight of a similar female to him practically blended in with the water, tensed and watching the both of you cautiously with a sewing-needle-like blade held close. In your expert perception, you think she is standing watch as Splak interacts with you, rather than waiting in ambush, she watches him with worry and eyes you carefully. Eventually, the other surfaces and approaches cautiously, keeping her needle sword in hand, she places a hand on Splak's shoulder, causing him to start slightly before looking at her.
"Oh, hey Jana! Meet Jana, Nick! She was gonna stab you if you were mean, but you were alright so it is ok! Jana, this is Nick! He fights hair and sits on things!"
You and Jana blink at his introductions, and she smiles and waves with he free hand, and you return in kind.
You noticed more of these 'water sprites' watching from closer to shore as time passed, but with Slak intoroducing you to Jana, they all begin giggling and flying/dancing/swimming around as if a dam of pent-up energy has been released.

This has been an odd day.
And you are starting to prune up.

In fact, you can feel it, you realize as he puts words to the strange sensation you've had since arrival.
It is a place of power, a focus point. A nexus of energies that your body thrums with the feel of, that is what that sensation is..

"What are they? You can feel them, but you don't know what they are? It's life and growth and power! It is the stuff hopes and fears are made of, flowing throughout existence.. they're nice, but sometimes mean people camp on them or mean things fall out of them. I'm glad you aren't of of those! You excuse yourself and head for shore while tiny people play around you and thoroughly ruffle your hair.
Once there you get dressed and take stock of your possessions, and once Splak brings your other boot back, you find things relatively well, save that your cheese is gone and that you've gained a fairly sizable mushroom.

The sky has taken the ruddy color of sunset, despite your insistence that it should have a sun to do that.

Jumping over and stumbling back through the debris, you make it back to Jana and try to examine her. At least she seems human-esque in shape, though feeling for a pulse is out. Leaning in really close with your ear, you think you hear raspy breathing.
You pull out your spare shirt and wrap her in it, hoping she can pull through if you keep her safe, you aren't sure what more you can do at the moment.

And then you stop and actually look around beyond the immediate chaos of strange people stumbling around.
Beyond the rows of metallic shops with strange wares, carts, and very large metallic statues that seem to be moving and helping with the damage recovery. To the silvery domed ceiling and white lights that seem to stretch for miles.

As you stand and gawk, a stout and unusually wide humanoid walks over after chasing people out of his stall.
"Achey you! Looket you, all rags and such. What, were ya dropped off in the storm?"
