You have always wanted to be an emperor. That ambition has burned dimly in the past, tempered by reality. Now the opportunity to realise your ambition has arrived and you are determined not to let it slip. Now is the time to build your empire and become an emperor.

Last Thread: You are the knight, Talon York, and you are the man who will be an emperor. Last thread you engaged in somewhat successful diplomacy with the general of Vitria’s Craol province. You also agreed to a proposal from the heir of one of the ruling families, Tabeth, to let him jointly rule Vitria in return for his support. You are currently talking to Undine and Sarah about one of the soldier’s children who referred to you as her uncle.

1. Next thread will be 5pm EST, Feb 1st. I may run an extra thread on Sunday (26th Jan) depending on my mood.
2. I answered that Salamander question from a while back (about her fire and its temps) in the Q&A bin.
3. Long session planned for today if player interest is there (2am or later).

NB: The lorebin is pretty large and I’m not expecting everybody to read it all. I’m still up for answering questions ITT so as not to alienate players and I’ll try to make things understandable contextually.

Rolls are d20 and the best of the first three posters. Please quote the post you are voting for or rolling against.

"The military is a family, hell, it's all the family most of us have,” you say. “It’s not too surprising she thinks of me as an uncle.”

“Maybe,” Undine replies, slightly put out from your serious response.

Sarah, on the other hand, nods along. “That makes sense. I wonder if her father is behind that?”

He probably is, and you make a mental note to find out who ‘Benny’ is and talk to him about this. You’d at least like to be informed if children are being told you’re their uncle. It seems like the sort of thing that might create complications down the road.

“He could be,” you say. “Either way, if it makes her more comfortable to think of me as her uncle, I’m happy about it.”

“Hmm, have you ever thought about being a father, Talon,” Undine asks suddenly, eliciting a surprised look from Sarah.

Talon does use a form of protection. Pretty reliable as well as far as it has been made aware. "Yes, I decided that my lifestyle as a mercenary wouldn't be conductive to raising kids. Huh, I suppose that's changed, hasn't it?"

Undine nods seriously. “True, you will need an heir if you become an emperor. It’s only natural.”

Sarah doesn’t seem to be taking it quite so nonchalantly. “So, you want to have children now?”

“Well, it does come as part of the emperor patch,” you say. “And it’s not like they’ll be in constant peril or mistreatment like they were earlier when I travelled.”

Sarah nods several times, and you can almost see her mind working out how this could work for her. Stifling a slight laugh, you…

[spoiler[I absolutely cannot find any instance of talking about the elemental’s fertility. If the question comes up in the future and I contradict a past post (which shouldn’t happen as I’m going off the same set of notes but just in case) then I apologise.[/spoiler]

>1.

“So, I overheard the two of you talking about a possible tax system,” you say.

Sarah’s eyes light up. “You’re really interested in that?”

“Yes. Absolutely,” you say flatly.

Undine snorts with a smile and even Sarah catches your tone, frowning as she says, “Oh. Well, you can learn anyway.”

The two girls suddenly take up positions either side of you and you find yourself almost bodily dragged along with them as they walk.

“You see, Undine was talking about taking on a more ordinary taxation system, like in the the RSK and Vitria, where much of the local work is done by the baron or township nearby,” Sarah tells you as you try not to zone out.

You’ve never been one for taxation before, but the two women appear oddly serious about it. You think that you should at least try to follow them.

You tried. You really did. Unfortunately, the intricacies of the RSK taxation system and the modified version that Sarah and Undine are explaining to you is completely beyond your grasp. The main thing you understand is that Sarah’s new system appears to be based around cutting out private ownership of farmland due to the lack of nobles in most of your land. Undine supports using the RSK method. You’re not really certain of the benefits or negatives the two are spruiking, though.

“So, Talon, which of the two methods do you prefer?” Sarah suddenly asks you.

You come back to reality and realise the two have escorted you to a bench nearby the archery range erected in the noble area. They both look expectantly at you.

“I’m sorry, but I zoned out a while ago,” you admit, swallowing your pride.

Undine looks amused at your response even as Sarah looks dispirited. The water elemental then says, “How much interaction with taxation have you had, Talon?”

You scowl slightly. “I commanded armies and mobilised the peasantry, I didn’t count beans. And besides, how much knowledge of taxation do you think the Seraphi king has?”

Sarah looks annoyed as she says, “Probably a great deal.”

“Why don’t we start from the top,” Undine says. “Talon, how much about the RSK’s system of taxation do you know about?”

“Well,” you say, thinking. “The noble who owns the land takes a fixed amount of rent, independent of the size of the harvest. The king then takes a proportion of the harvest. They have to be set at different times, and I think the noble must set his earlier. That’s, uh, about all I know.”

Sarah blurts out, “That’s all it is – how could you not have followed us?”

You stare at her. They had to have been talking at you for almost five minutes straight. How can that have been it? They’re either pulling your leg or they talk way too much.

“That’s ridiculous,” you say. “You talked for minutes on end about something I explained in seconds. The two of you were teasing me because I joked about talking to you for work-related reasons, aren’t you?”

The two women suddenly look rather bashful, and you feel that you were in the right to call them on it.

“So I was right. You were just taking a lot more time to explain things in order to confuse me,” you say.

“Well, no,” Undine says. “There’s a little more to it.”

Sarah nods. “For instance, the reasoning behind changing the proportion of the harvest and the problems caused by the noble fixing the rent first are-“

“Stop!” you say, holding a hand out. “Keep things simple. I want a taxation system that will give me the best results, but I want it explained clearly. I want benefits and detriments, not lots of explanation. Assume the RSK system is the default and explain to me how the system can be better or worse. I trust the two of you to know more about this than I do, but with that trust comes the expectation you’ll explain things in a way that doesn’t require me to know the ins and outs of absolutely everything. I’ll never manage an empire if that’s the case.”

>continued
>>
>>29767313
You were a little worried that the two might be unhappy with you after all that, but they actually both seem rather… puffed up. Somehow they appear to have taken that as a compliment? Well, you think, that’s not a bad thing. Even if they do insist on running through several administrative ideas. It takes several hours of your time and you eventually tell them to write some reports based on your (succinct) feedback and that your cabinet can provide some opinions as well.

As the two of them wander off, continuing their earlier discussion, you marvel a bit at how well the two synergise. The fact they don’t get along seems to drive them both to create new ideas merely to rival the other.

Maloric chuckles, clearly unaffected by the threat. You honestly can’t blame him – you lost count of the number of times you threatened him after the tenth or so time. You growl as he drives his finger into your arm, and then again. Or you try to growl, rather, and instead produce a feeble noise that could be generously interpreted to be the growl of a baby lion. Maybe.

“It’s your own fault. I said to try to put out as much power as you could to see if I could catch it and manipulate it – I didn’t tell you to use so much you’d enfeeble yourself,” he says smugly, continuing to poke you.

“You told me you almost had it and that I needed to try harder,” you say, trying sound forceful and merely sounding petulant. The weakness is even extending to your vocals. “So I feel pretty confident in blaming you. And just because I can’t follow through on my threats now doesn’t mean I won’t in the end.”

Mal pauses, but then laughs it off with a light punch to your shoulder. It feels like a battering ram and you lean hard against the table to not slide off your chair.

“I am going to kill you, Mal,” you repeat as Gnome walks in.

>Exceptional success

You surge with astral power, if not all that much, and your fist crashes into Maloric’s face with a satisfying crunch despite your general enfeeblement. Ha!, you think, serves the bastard right. Unfortunately, that surge of astral power took everything out of you and you black out.

You wake up and find your surroundings quite warm and comfortable. Gnome stares down at you and suspect you’re in her lap once more. You still feel very weak and spot Maloric nursing his face, his nose obviously broken and looking to be in bad shape. Still, he’s looked worse. Like when you hurled him off the mountain.

“Was that really necessary?” Gnome asks, her voice wavering. It sounds like she’s trying to be serious but instead she just sounds like she’s about to burst into laughter.

“No,” you admit, slightly bashful. “But he still deserved it.”

“You fucking broke my nose,” he shouts back, voice muffled by the clamp on his nose.

“You tried to embarrass me in front of my familiar.”

“I’m always embarrassed in front of my familiar.”

“It’s not my fault you’re not man enough for her.”

Mal gives you a very firm and obvious middle finger, waving his hand around excitedly. You respond likewise, grinning in triumph. In return, Gnome merely stares down at you, her cheeks puffed up and her eyes almost brimming with tears.

“It’s, uh, how we communicate,” you try to explain, worried that Gnome is taking things the wrong way. It doesn’t seem much like her…

Then she bursts into giggles, and you and Mal stare at her. After a minute, the two of you look at each other, confused as to why Gnome doesn’t appear to be able to stop giggling. This is pretty normal for the two of you, but Gnome appears to have gone hysterical.

This is it. This is your time. Nobody else’s. You feel as though the world itself supports your coming triumph. Power surges through you like it never has before. Power to rival gods. To shatter mountains. Power that you will need every drop of to succeed at your attempt. As you push your tired and broken arms up, you surge with energy – drop after drop of astral power strengthens your limbs. There will be no stopping you. This is your one and only chance.

Your hands clasp over either side of Gnome’s waist and she fails to notice. This opening is everything – never before and never again has it or will it ever occur. Now is the time!

Wonderful music comes with every motion of your finger. Mal stares, jaw slack, as you play your familiar like an instrument. For all her pride and power, right now she is yours and yours alone. Her giggles continue and you strike different parts of her to produce different noises. She even squirms differently as you move your digits about her. You try not to lose yourself in this pleasure, as she has, but remained focused.

“I think I broke her, Mal,” you say, grinning at your friend as you tickle Gnome relentlessly.

“Is this normal?” he replies with a touch of breathlessness.

“Nope. Which makes it all the more fun.”

Gnome appears to be powerless against you, but even with all the power you’re drawing on you can’t continue forever.

You figure that if you’ve gone this far, you might as well go out with a bang. You draw on every drop of power you have, even knowing it will make things worse in the long run, and try for a last surge of tickling. Plus a bit extra.

As your hands drift up a bit from your waist, Gnome suddenly gasps hard in between her laughter. It resumes soon enough though, though considerably sweet than before and she squirms madly. Her legs and lower body move too, but she controls herself despite that. You respect that in your familiar – even as you’re pushing her well beyond her normal levels of control she’s still making sure not to hurt you. Luckily, you’re in no position to even attempt the same as your hands continue to play up and down her waist and chest. Her voice changes tone, moving higher and lower, sweeter and more raucous, as your hands move. No matter how this ends, you’re going to remember this for a while.

Eventually, your arms sag and collapse and your whole body feels weighted down. Gnome breathes heavily, her stomach pushing in and out against the top of your head and her breasts occlude your vision of her face with each breath. Despite that, it’s obvious from the glimpses you do get that you’re going to suffer for this.

“That was pretty damned amazing,” you hear Mal say. “Any chance I could get a chance to practice that so I can try it on Sala?”

Gnome’s head snaps up. “If you try that on me I will break every rib in your chest.”

“He doesn’t seem worried about it,” he says in response.

Gnome grins wolfishly. “Then I obviously just have to teach him to know better.” She then looks down at you with that same grin. You don’t flinch at all. Not that you could, with how exhausted you are. “Now, was that at all necessary?” she says, her voice oozing with menace.

Well, the answer to this one is pretty easy.

“Abso-fucking-lutely.”

She stares at you in surprise, her grin slipping for a bit. Then it returns, “Well, at least I’ll still get my revenge.”

“How so?”

“You missed lunch with me. Now I get to feed you.”

Oh. Crap. Plus, with how tired you are, she’ll probably be feeding you dinner and in front of a larger audience than just Mal.

“So,” you say, “what’s on the menu?”

“Steak for lunch,” she says. “Spaghetti for dinner.”

“Sounds wonderful,” you say, noticing Mal gesturing in the corner of your vision. “What are you doing Mal?”

“I figured Salamander might want to join us,” he says. “After all, she does love to feed you even when you’re fully capable of doing it yourself.”

Even more wonderful, you think, noticing Gnome get a little unhappy. You get to have the two elementals fight over who gets to feed you while Mal watches on and laughs. And at dinner, Undine will probably join in. That bastard friend of yours grins triumphantly, having gotten revenge on you.

Still, you think as Sala and Gnome take turns feeding you steak, sometimes jabbing your cheek as the other gets their fork in first, it was worth it. Plus, Gnome certainly seemed to enjoy it. If she hadn’t, then she’d have reacted more poorly. You wonder if she merely likes being fawned on a little.

Gnome bodily carries you to a chair at the table. Maloric meanwhile uses a sending to get the cooks to bring some lunch to the room. Sala beats them to the room, bursting in excitedly.

“I heard that Tallie was completely defenceless,” she says, calling you a nickname you’ve never heard her say before.

You groan. “That’s what brought you here? What have I surrounded myself with?”

Mal hits you in the arm and you glare in response. He says, “That’s my familiar you’re talking about there?”

“You’re even lower on the list, you bastard.”

“I’m just getting my right revenge.”

“That was what I was doing.”

“Enough,” Gnome says. “Play nice. Besides, it’s my revenge that matters the most.”

“Oh,” says Sala, bouncing intoa chair. “What do you need to get revenge on Tallie for?”

“None of your business,” Gnome growls back. Sala’s eyes dart to Gnome’s chest and she grins.

Before any sparks can fly, the staff arrive and drop off four steaks. They quickly vacate the room, wary of getting caught in this. You suspect there’s going to be some strange rumours floating around tomorrow.

Gnome quickly cuts a bit of steak but Sala’s just as fast and you find your enfeebled self surrounded by steak. Green and red eyes stare into you from either side and you hope to survive this.

The girls both stare as you exaggeratedly bite down on and chew the piece of meat, pretending to greatly enjoy it. Finally, Gnome breaks out of her stupor.

“This isn’t actually a thing, is it?” she asks, sounding very uncertain. Sala suddenly straightens with that, bristling with interest.

“Problems?” Gnome says, voice spiking slightly in pitch. “You’ve been acting the way you have despite this?”

“Mal’s a good friend,” you say, trying to hedge this whole conversation. “What’s wrong with that? Can’t an emperor-to-be do this sort of thing?”

Sala’s grinning widely as Gnome’s face collapse into her hands, her fork and the steak it holds falling onto her plate with a clatter. She says, “You said you slept with fifty women so I’m afraid to ask how many men.”

Sala’s grin widens, if such a thing were possible. “Oooh, or maybe it’s just a ‘Only if it’s you’ thing. That’s it, isn’t it? Isn’t it?”

Yours and Mal’s eyes meet again, and you can tell neither of you will be able to keep this going for much longer. Gnome appears to be in slight despair whereas Sala is excited.

In fact, I can count a few dozen off the top of my head. Including the king of the RSK – it’s a big deal there, after all. Very serious customs.”

Gnome’s look of confusion turns to abject horror and even Sala looks shocked. Gnome says, her voice breaking, “The Seraphi king? That old man? Customs? I- I-“

Mal’s about to hit the table laughing. You might just follow him but if you can hold it in you can pull one last trick.

“You really shouldn’t react like that,” you say, keeping a completely straight face. “It’s very impolite to the RSK, their customs and the king.”

“Impolite,” Gnome rasps. “Impolite!? You just told me that you’re fucking a wrinkled old man!”

Mal loses it and begins to choke as his laughter as Sala continues to stare in horror. You suspect that you would have lost it yourself at that, but something keeps your face on the straight and narrow and your response is as calm as the ocean, “That’s even more impolite. To say such things of the king of such a nation, Gnome.”

“Fuck you,” she says, standing and amazingly upset. You can’t believe how easily you’ve thrown her off like this. Sala appears to be more interested in her sister’s complete meltdown than your joke about being gay. Gnome continues, “You’re telling me that the same hands you’ve been playing with my tits with have touched a wrinkled old prune? Even more privately?”

You figure to let this one out before your familiar blows up literally. “As I said before, that’s very impolite. I said that the king had fed me before – it is custom after a great victory for the general to be given a piece of food directly from the highest ranking noble’s fork. Do you mean to tell me that you actually thought I had sex with the RSK’s king? Or with Maloric?”

And with that Gnome almost visibly deflates. Then she flares up again, face growing red and ready to burst… and then she deflates again. “Oh, that’s what you mean by not sleeping with them…”

Finally, after all this, you let your poker face slip, as Mal continues his hysterics. Gnome collapses into her chair, looking exhausted. Sala holds a piece of steak in front of you, looking very interested.

“Oho, if we’re going to do this then what about you not telling me you slept with Talon?” Gnome responds.

Sala’s grin doesn’t budge for a second. “I guess I forgot. I slept with Talon. Now that’s over with, what was that about your playtime with Tallie?”

Gnome falters, but you doubt she’ll stay down. Do you…

Sorry, Gnome's responses held me up a bit.

>1.

You decide to calmly watch them, even if your weakness makes it impossible for you to feed yourself right now.

Gnome fires back, “That’s right, I did have some fun with Talon. And I’ll bet he enjoyed it more than he did his time with you. I have so much more to offer.”

Sala’s grin dims slightly as she stands and points at her sister. “So you have been sleeping with him, then!”

Gnome falters, “Well, no, but – that’s nothing I said! I’m not like you. I take my time.”

Sala waves her hand back and forth, continuing to grin. “You don’t need to lie – Tallie told me all about it. How you’ve been giving him lots of experience in these lunch breaks.”

Gnome’s gaze suddenly pierces you and you freeze. Goddammit, Sala, you think. You’ve been thrown to the wolves – and over something Sala knows isn’t true.

“Talon, is that true?” your familiar asks you.

“You know as well as I do what we do in our breaks,” you protest.

“That wasn’t the question.”

“I already corrected the record with Sala, she’s just teasing you,” you say. Then realise that was a mistake.

“You told her that we- No, you know what, screw it,” Gnome says, and you fear the worst. “Sala, I’m holding you up on your end of the bargain – you tell me everything after this lunch. Talon, you sit down and let me feed you.”

And the lunch goes exactly as she planned. Except for the fact that you and Mal don’t hesitate to fight back as the pair try to tease you.

“You know,” Mal tells you afterwards, as he tries to cure your exhaustion, “I think that’s the most fun Sala’s been. We should do this more often.

Heh. You know, this is making me realize more and more Gnome is indeed not all knowing. For one thing, if we catch her right, she's easily fooled just like her sisters (or any normal person really).

This makes me consider that I was right when I said that she simply thinks Sala is a whore, when really she doesn't go all the way, and indeed just enjoys the attention men shower her with.

Quite interesting...yes...

I look forward to learning their secrets as we proceed.

It's good fun. Even if I have been drinking for eleven hours straight. Bottle of wine and five bottles of beer down so far. Still going strong.

>1.

This isn’t going to work, you think, as you stare down at the ground far below you. These girls seem to live to torment you. The more they see of you, they more they seem to scratch at you.

“You’ve gone silent, Tallie,” Sala says from just behind you, her chest moving a bit against your back as she talks. The tight grip she has around you as she holds you in the air puts the two of you close together.

“Just thinking about what I’ll do when I get back down,” you growl back. “I’m going to get the two of you for tricking me into thinking this was just a secret training session for Caitlyn and her draconic abilities.”

Caitlyn laughs as she flies to a stop next to you. “Is he still grumbling, Sala? Maybe he should have a turn with me – I bet it won’t be as comfortable, but that will just make it more fun.”

Not as comfortable? How could it get any worse than be held by a woman more than a hundred meters in the air?

You focus power, cursing your lack of a shield, prepare to use your feet to project a barrier – if you’re lucky, you might only bruise your legs and not break them. You channel the power and close the circuit. Now you’ll –

Then something crashes into you and you lose your focus. It hit you hard, too, and you find yourself struggling to draw breath.

You quickly realise that the problem is the sheer speed that you’re moving at. Wind buffets your body as you fly upwards, being carried by somebody. You’re able to draw breath now, but it’s more difficult than usual. Still, with a bit of practice you ease into it.

“What the hell were you thinking, Sala!” Caitlyn shouts, making it her turn for her chest to push against your back. A little larger than Sala’s, you think, but not by much.

“He said to drop him, so I did,” comes the innocent reply from the fire elemental hovering lazily in the air in front of you.

The sensation of flight is different with Lynn, you think idly. With Salamander it was still very comfortable, but Lynn is to Sala what a horse is to a carriage. There’s a primal force behind her flight, even if it’s obviously aided by magic.

“So, are the two of you just planning to fly around and torment me all day or did you actually have something planned?” you ask dryly.

“Well, we were hoping you might enjoy just playing around with us,” Lynn says. “You’ve been so busy after all.”

Sala grins a bit and you can tell that’s not all there is to it. Not that their actions show anything different – the two simply continue to flit about, carrying you with them.

“Of course,” you say. “You wear your thoughts on your sleeve, Sala.”

The girl pouts, but isn’t paying too much attention to you. “That’s not nice. Still, you can look forward to tonight. It should be fun.”

You frown at that and want to continue but you’re already in position. If you let this slip you might not get another shot. You’ve successfully shifted yourself without the fire elemental realising what you’ve done and your hand latch onto your waste. Sala gasps but you waste no time and snap a light barrier around her to tether your hands together. Your fingers begin to move, just as they did with Gnome yesterday, and Sala begins to squirm and giggle. Her hands push against you futilely, even as she lets go of you, your barrier keeps you aloft and attached to her – even if you are floating 100m in the air with your hands wrapped along the slim girl’s waist.

Sala realises you have a barrier and tries to break it with her own power, which you meet easily. The first clash doesn’t really happen, as her concentration breaks in the attempt and you get several more seconds of unimpeded laughter from the girl. The second attempt snaps your barrier, and the fire elemental tries to catch you, surprisingly, but you give her no quarter and instead use it as an attempt to latch onto her better and reform another barrier.

“No, not again,” she says, and suddenly lets go of you. Your hand yanks against something and you hear a snap as a clasp comes open and an object flies off. You’re about to go flying away with it but luckily, you manage to form a barrier around her again and resume your tickling. Or, you thought it was tickling until you realise you’re not wrapped around her waist anymore and the thing that went flying off was clearly Sala’s metal bikini top. You snap the barrier, hoping to escape retribution – and get caught by Lynn.

>>29770455
“Let’s go for a trip,” she says happily, seeming to have no noticed the steaming elemental behind you shouting.

Afterwards, things quiet down a bit and the three of you retire around a small campfire. You lay on a hill nearby whilst the two girls chatter. You remember Sala’s comment about something fun happening tonight.

You decide to listen in on the two, and they’re close enough that a little bit of empowerment makes it easy. Especially as there’s no Undine around to try to stop you, unlike last time you attempted this.

“You said I would get the fun but you were the one who got their chest felt up,” Caitlyn says.

“Talon’s a little whimsical,” comes Sala’s reply. “Plus, you dug your own grave in this one. Even Gnome knows to play around with him.”

“Eh, Gnome, really?”

“Mmmhmm, Gnomey gets her fun in those lunch breaks they have.”

“That’s… How do I get that?”

“Be less of a baby. Be more forward. You’re young so if you’re not careful it’ll become weird.”

“It already might be weird. The whole thing confuses me.”

“Well, then unconfuse yourself – nobody else can tell you how you feel.”

“That’s not much help. I don’t know – I don’t think I’ll take you up on your offer, Sala.”

The two then fall into some light chatter about flying. You mull over the conversation and realise this likely relates to Gnome’s comments about Caitlyn being confused by you. Obviously she doesn’t know where you fall. You could force the issue tonight, as it looks like a good opportunity, or leave it to Caitlyn to resolve.

“Are you sure about this, Talon?” Undine asks you for the nth time as the two of you prepare to spar in the noble area. A small crowd of knights has gathered to watch, though you doubt there’ll be much shame in losing to your Champion – being an imperator doesn’t make you a match for a supernatural being.

“I’m sure. You handled Sir Roderic with ease, Undine,” you say. “I have no doubt you’ll be able to challenge me in a fight.”

“If you’re sure…”

You sigh at the response. You’d expected several things when you asked Undine to spar with you, but for her to so whole-heartedly believe she wouldn’t be able to challenge you at all wasn’t one of them

“Undine, keeping up your finesse and sorcery will push me – I guarantee it. Being stronger doesn’t mean much if you can’t hit your opponent. Anything else, or shall we begin?”

Undine does take up a stance, something you didn’t get to see last time, and you feel her attune to the energy around her. You do likewise, empowering your body as you signal to the knight happily refereeing the fight to start the countdown to start it. Apparently your men have much enjoyed making a sport of sparring, though there’s not much in the way of rules, yet.

How should you approach the start of the spar?

>1. Be defensive. You want to see whether Undine approaches you any differently to Roderic.
>2. Be offensive. If you let Undine seize the initiative you might never regain it, just like what happened to Roderic.

There really are no tournaments?
Jousting does not exist because no horses, but no swordsmanship tournaments? Why?

Also how are Men-at-Arms armed?
I think you mentioned a mashup of swords/spears and such, basically no enchantments, with MMK being the "cavalry" type unit.

Can we make spearwalls?
I mean, just enchant the spear tips to be armor penetrative and you're good to go.
Arcane Spearmen, so to speak.

Hey, color me surprised too man. When you said "X gives you god-like power over..." I thought tg was gonna bite it as hard as a god damn Anaconda.

But hey, who knew? The promise of harems drew us to our elemental friend!
Actually, I imagine part of it was "Well, our Champion has 3 sisters...can we get them all together? Gotta complete the set.

So I guess it was part OCD, and part harem desires.

But hey, I like the outcome, so what am I complainin' for.
>>
>>29770938
>There really are no tournaments?
Sorry, you have many of those but there aren't proper rules for magical combat spars. Mage-knight plate is relatively recent and is largely a soldiery thing, not a noble thing. As such, most duels are intended for mages and are probably more like pissing contests than proper spars.

Wow, the first FTB pastebin has a lot of hits now that I look at it. I should also add the fluff stuff to it at some point.

>1.

You decide to be defensive for a change and as the referee calls the start of the fight, you simply raise your shield and wait for Undine to make the first move. She watches you cautiously for a while, expecting you to charge her at any moment but eventually she realises you intend to wait for her.

Her initial reaction is to try to pepper you with icicles, but you easily deal with them using your shield and some weak barriers. She then decides to charge you, using her icicles to control your movements.

I think when we introduce the new military ranks and shift that to be more efficient we should also standardize our equipment a bit more. MaA were the crux of old time war, but I feel like we can still use them to great effect en masse with superior tactics.

Armor-penetration spearwalls. I like it.
Swords guys who have barrier enchantments in their shields.
Arcane archers.

We need more enchanters.
Our tower should specialize in enchanting.
SO MANY OPTIONS FOR KILLING.
>>
>>29770979

Been asked before. Answer was nope, since it's been replaced by the magical tech.

I have so many ideas for possible magic machines though all thanks to The Odyssey game
>>
>>29771017
No.
Horses in general are underused.
Too easy to kill them and you can just get the momenttum of a charge from enchanting boots to be extra jumpy.
>>
>>29771017

Largely replaced by MK armour.

I remember us throwing around the idea of recreating it though, either through magical means or outfitting RSK horses with enchanted stuff. Think it was to head off the issue that while HMKs are powerful, they tire easily, so mounting them would give them some better mobility and longer term endurance.
>>
On to the cognac now. Let’s see how Meukow XO compares to Courvoisier XO.

>Target not met

Undine comes at you in a storm, icicles clattering against your shield as you try to cover her approach. Unfortunately, in doing so you fall right into her trap and swiftly find yourself on the backfoot. You manage to keep her from completely overpowering you but it’s clear you’re falling into Roderic’s routine.

You suddenly lash forward, trying to seize an opening. You sword pommel crashes into Undine’s ribs with a harsh crack and you shove forward, trying to take advantage of your momentum and weight. Right up until she slips right past you and sends you tumbling down. The fall isn’t too bad, but it could cost you dearly as it leave Undine firmly in control.

>1. Try to hammer against her defences to take the initiative.

Can we bounce her icicles back at her with concave barriers?

>>
>>29771047
>armor so heavy it can barely carry itself
>get a horse
>horse has to have enchanted leg armor so they don't break and enchanted armor so they can't shot it ded
Enchantments on enchantments of enchantments.
Not the way to go.

With horses, I'd rather go for the SPEED.
Make them ultra fast, maximum armor would be LMK tier.
MAximum overdrive hit-and-run tactics, speed of sound type of thing. Run their archers over from behind before they know what hit them.
Make it so fast FMK can't keep up.
Paint them blue

>>29771077
Our way of doing it would be placing a barrier on the shield and bash with it.
>>
>>29771084
Undine is smarter than us, but we have experience and cunning in battle I suspect. What does that translate to? Well, Talon can probably make snap instinctive decisions in battle quicker and clearer than Undine can. Which means we need to get up close and dirty, grappling as much as we can to open her up before we get beat down.
>>
>>29771105
>Max horse speed
Or, you know, just make metal horses and make them that much harder to kill. No training required.

Magic kinda does remove the need for beast of burden. Hell, if summoning was easier, we wouldn't even need to fight our own battles. Just get Golems to do it for us.

You need to make your own opening, you realise. Trying anything else will play into her hands. But Lynn’s crazy shield-charge might just be enough to break Undine’s dance of death. You raise your shield and charge your magic through it as you take a step forward…

[DC16 Magical Shield-charge]

Erm, well, ideally golems would fit that bill. But as mentioned, Summoning and golemancy is rare.
>>
>>29771160

Shock troops kind of implies either heavily armed men that are just juggarnauts, or fast expendable troops doesn't it?

I don't think using horses as "expendable" resources is the best plan.
>>
>>29771160
>Though I do not know how horse upkeep [high upkeep low initial investment] would compare with the upkeep of an enchanted armor [high investment lower upkeep?].
Horse upkeep is actually pretty high initial investment. Raising battleworthy steeds can be pricey, plus they need a lot of care on the march.

>Target met

Astral power surges through you as you create a moving barrier in the shield that stretches in front of you. Undine attempts to slip around you, ice sheeting across the front of barrier, but you don’t hesitate. With a grunt, you slam your shield forward with all your power and snap the chains of the barrier in an attempt to unleash some raw magical force on Undine. She squeals as your shield strikes her squarely in the side of her chest and you hear a thud as she strikes the dirt. You snap forward, bringing your sword to bear but it’s for nothing – the girl is quite clearly down for the count. As the referee rushes over to declare your victory, you put away your weapons and try to help your Champion.

As it is, she’s clearly in a state of concussion and you help her over to a bench. You hadn’t expected her to go down so easily from a single blow, but at the same time you also realise you can put a lot of power behind your blows. She’s slowly coming to her senses as your men disperse, a few giving you some congratulations on your victory as they go.

>not-manpower
Not really. Everyone has lots of Men at Arms.
You just need to make them more useful. They are currently just cannon fodder.
Cheap to produce en-masse things.

Give them enchanted spear tips, you have spearwalls.
Give them regular horses with enchanted leggings and you have Sanic fast shock troops to kill archers.

How I view current armies:
lotsa Men-at-Arms with subpar equipment [little cost]
MMK being cavalry destroying MaM [expensive]
HMK holding MMK charges [very expensive]
FMK being light cavalry [very expensive for light cavalry!]
Mages being artillery.
Archers plinking generally useless arrows that can only kill MaM.

We already made archers useful against more than rabble with few cheap enchantments.
We need more cheap enchantments to give to MaM to overpower current expensive small units that dominate the field.
>>29771190

Potentially funny or interesting. Harrowmont is kind of her home, she probably still knows it better then we do.
>>
>>29771223
FMK are also mobile artillery.
HMK are heavy-hitters - a charge from them can shatter entire formations of weaker MKs.
There's also LMKs who can make mincemeat of damn near anything on the charge, including HMKs, but fold like a cheap suit under any pressure.

FMK, HMK and LMK all cost a fair chunk more than regular MMKs.

>>29771232
Your strength with empowerment was literally five points over her endurance. Poor girl.
>>
>>29771223

Hit and run tactics work great. But not in an open field. We'd be sending a contingent of men to their certain deaths even with that much speed.
>>

It's a bit primitive, but possibly deal a load of damage to a good target. Is it worth taking troops to make, though? I don't know. Maybe not.

I've had this idea, so far, for a magic machine that basically is operated entirely by mages, but it's a giant mechanical spider with tons of missile turrets and giant drill claws and huge rockets.

It's, uh.
Yeah.

“Come on, Undine,” you say, giving her a light shake. “Is there anywhere you’d like to go right now? We’ve both got all the time in the world.”

She stares at you for a little while, seeing to try to make sense of the world before answering, “There’s a nice fountain that Bartom and Gnome made in the merchant area. Nobody will be there right now.”

You nod and escort her there. As she said, there’s nobody to be found though your senses tell you that Gnome and Bartom are hard at work not that far away.

The fountain itself is extremely extravagant – an enormous griffon stands almost five metres tall as it rears up, wings spread. Water gushes from its beak as it gazes imperiously out towards the Marnn mountain range. You wonder who designed this, as you marvel at the marble it’s made of. You sit on the edge of it along with Undine who runs a hand through the water.

“So, Undine, how is it being my Champion?” you ask her.

“It’s nice,” she says, not saying much as she runs her hand through the water slowly. “I don’t mean to sound dismissive, though. It really is nice – you’re as strong-willed as I expected, but still gentler. My previous master was nice, but there was a difference there – her ambition was tempered and her attention to me was lessened due to her husband.”

You nod. “Does the presence of your sisters worry the same way?”

She looks at you in surprise, “Why would you think that? Oh, what I just said. No, I’m not worried. You, uh, showed me in Niorte that you’re still able to pay attention to me even when there’s more temptation around.” She goes a bit red as she talks about your time with her and Salamander that night.

>Anything to say to her on this?

They will be useful is Talon uses them correctly. Keeping them in a long fray will result in a lot of loss for us.

Personal. I'm all for getting more HMK right now. We'll get fewer sets for sure, but it has the most upside with the way (reckless)Talon fights at present, and since he still frontlines it most of the time giving him a solid supporting core is the way to go in my opinion.

>How many men are employed in such a factory? Are they usually automated?
Men are involved in transport etc, otherwise they're automated. If you've ever seen the size of your average fusion reactor (even theoretically) they're not much larger, it's mostly a matter of placing the inputs and removing the outputs.

>sabotage
You can, of course. You'd likely need a mage to pull it off as they're usually pretty heavily enchanted for defense (for obvious reasons)..

You give her a smile and place your hand over hers. “I'm glad to hear I’ve helped you relax your worries. I’m sorry if I sometimes appear to be ignoring you – it can get a little busy.”

You rub her knuckles a little and fall silent. She gives you a smile in return and remains quiet for a while, basking in… something. You suspect there’s something about this place but you don’t feel the need to intrude on Undine’s happiness – it’s enough to know she feels a connection here.

After a little while, with a slightly mischievous mind, you ask, "Anything in particular on your mind, now that you've recovered from that little round?"

She goes a little red and looks around. “Um, maybe. There’s always more to try, I guess. I’m a little newer to this than Sala.”

“So is Gnome, in some ways,” you say lightly, trying to ease her worries. When she gives you a disbelieving look you continue, “No, really, she might be the oldest of you but she acts amazingly innocent at times. You should have seen her reaction when I, er, put my hand on her chest.”

You’re a little worried that Undine might take that the wrong way, but instead she looks puzzled as she says, “Happiness? I’m sorry, but I’m not really sure.”

“She nearly broke my wrist, she was so upset,“ you say dryly.

Undine stares at you before blurting out, “What? Really?”

“Yep. She’s weak against anything sexual.”

“I would’ve been happy if you’d done that earlier. I- I really should talk to her about that. It’s not right.”

You hold back a chuckle at the thought of Undine advising her much older sister on how to handle your advances. “I think she’d greatly appreciate that, Undine.”

You enjoy some companionable chatter amidst the general peace and quiet before the day continues on.

They're about 8m by 8m, as an average. They don't do anything except take inputs and turn them into plate. Larger factories are sometimes built around the individual pieces of magitech that produce the plate, of course, but the plate production is a self-contained magitech factory otherwise.

You don’t know what to make of the scene in front of you. You’d stepped into your suite to take a short nap after a long day and found it was already occupied. Gnome lay stretched across the length of your bed, arms splayed in an exaggerated fashion and her face pressed into your pillow.

“What are you doing, Gnome?” you ask.

“Sleeping.”

“One, you don’t sleep – I know for a fact that you and your sisters meditate to regain energy. Two, you’re quite obviously awake even if you could sleep,” you say.

“I like to pretend I can sleep. It looks so enjoyable,” she says, her voice heavily muffled by the pillow pressing against her face.

“You do realise we don’t think or feel when we sleep right? That’s why it’s called sleep,” you say, not sure exactly what is happening here.

“Then why don’t you join me and I can pretend not to think or feel with you,” she says, waving an arm lazily in your general direction. Very general, as she missed you by half the room. She’s obviously tired and you’re surprised she isn’t meditating down by the Source like Bartom does.

>Join her

You decide your familiar has the right idea and join her on the bed. You leave your clothes on just as she has, even if you lack her dirt-scouring abilities. You can always just ask her to clean it for you. After you lay down and get comfortable on the large bed, Gnome wastes no time and rolls over to join you. You don’t say anything but she catches the unspoken question.

“This is usually happens when a man and a woman share a bed. It makes sense,” she says, her voice sounding more lethargic than earlier.

You’re not inclined to disagree, especially if it means she might stop cuddling up to you.

>>
>2. But as bait

You decide that your original plan for a nap is a great idea and snuggle up to a Gnome a bit and try to drift off. Or pretend that you’re trying – you’re really just waiting for her to show her true colours. Instead, despite your open offer, all she does is cuddle up a little closer and give you the interesting sensation of her large chest pushing against yours with every breath.

Obviously you need to incite her a bit, if stealthily, and try to cuddle up to her and make her be more bold without appearing to be awake.

So much pwnage.

Speaking of those mountains, even though it is specified as impassable, could we potentially take it over with a well placed fort built into the mountains itself? I mean with Gnome and Bartom I assume it wouldn't be particularly difficult.

Never trust dragons, anon. Lynn is the exception, but I wouldn't want powerful creatures like them roving around.

>Target met

It all goes so smoothly. You move your arm a bit, squirm at seemingly random times and brush over your familiar a few times over the course of several minutes. She reacts as expected, and begins to grow restless. You’re awaiting her to try something when she suddenly begins to shake you.

“Wake up, Talon,” she says as she continues to shake you.

You do your best impression of blearily responding as though you’d only just fallen asleep. “What is it, Gnome? I’m trying get a nap.”

She frowns at you. “You’re acting funny in your sleep.”

“That’s what sometimes happens when people sleep in the same bed,” you say.

She squirms a bit, not completely satisfied. “Can we do something else for a bit? It just… I wouldn’t mind spending some time awake.”

It looks like she’s interested but playing her innocence card. You’ve gained a small win here, and you might be able to build on it.

Male dragons can make pure dragons with human females. Given that males can impregnate multiple females simultaneously single normal male dragon can literally repopulate the race given sufficient polygamy. You just need a social structure that allows a male dragon to take multiple human female partners without getting horribly murdered.
You are now all Magister Errants of the tower of Harrowmont. You have the magic for it and we all know what mages sexual practices are like. Plus, that position has basically no responsibility anyway.

Surprisingly, the suggestion isn’t a problem, though she does wait until your back is turned and you know she’s looking over her shoulder every other second. Fortunately, it doesn’t seem that Gnome notices. Or if she does, she’s certainly not objecting. For some time, you run your hands over her dark skin, enjoying the feel of her skin and flirting with danger a bit as you brush her front and sides around her chest. Eventually, you remove the sheet from her lower half and continue there without objection, though with slightly more caution. After finishing up and preparing to let Gnome know you’re done, she suddenly slips over, baring everything to you.

“You’re going to do the front next, right?” she says, looking half asleep. You’d guess she’s thoroughly enjoying your attentions.

“You know, maybe this would go better it you actually hit the target occasionally,” Sala says early the next morning, sitting on a bench behind you as you practice your archery.

You sigh. “It’s not about hitting the target – I could literally plough arrow after arrow into the bullseye until the chain of broken arrows stretched out to my nose. It’s about channelling power.”

Sala remains quiet for a while. But not long enough and she chirps up again after just three more shots. “I could show you how to do that?”

You look over at her. “No. No, you could not.”

“I can,” she insists. “I’d bet I can hit the target better than you.”

You stare at her. Is it because it’s early? Is that why she is so airheaded? Or is she just trying to annoy you.

just for fun

We have 5 strength and astral archery that fires through quality magic armor with ease. You wouldn't even be able to tell it was her after it was done
>>
>3.

You decide to ignore her and instead try to follow through on your boasts. You’re an expert archer, striking the bullseye repeatedly shouldn’t be too hard, especially at this distance.

Out of curiosity, what would the DC have been if we had tried to fill the bullseye without damaging a single arrow? Belatedly realized its probably poor form of us to waste war supplies on something like this.

This isn't a waste.

Naw man, don't worry yourself that much.

>Target met

You draw on your focus and regulate your breathing. It’s not about firing the arrow. It’s not about hitting the target. It’s about sight – foresight. The trick to archery, as you have learnt it over the years, is to see yourself striking the target. That is, above all else, the most important step. Even if you could repeat every other step, line up the shot, draw the string back to the best length and loose the arrow cleanly – even if mechanically you fire the arrow nearly perfectly, if you fail at that one step you will never succeed at truly striking your target. It will merely appear like you succeed.

You breathe out for the last time for this volley and frown. You weren’t able to live up to your boasts. You drove the arrows through each other and they all drove themselves into the target itself, rather than stopping in the arrow beforehand. Even so, that makes twenty arrows that you know drove themselves into that the bullseye at your command.

You turn to Sala, “Still going to talk like that?”

She blinks and replies without missing a beat, “I bet I could do twenty-one.”

If you had any arrows left, you would shoot her. As it is – “Get me some damned arrows. I still have proper practice to do.”

She obligingly does so and you continue to practice.

“So, what’s the point of this, Talon,” she asks.

“Practice.”

“You can already hit a bullseye repeatedly, why do you need to practice?”

“Because I can’t blow up a dragon’s head repeatedly,” you say, growing exasperated with her.

“Oh!” she says. “That’s what it was about. I can’t do that.”

You nod as she realises reality. “Finally. Now-“

Then she keeps talking, “But I could hit a bullseye twenty-one times in a row. Waitwaitwait, don’t shoot me! I’m not a dragon, I can’t survive that.”

You relax your stance and give her a glare. She pouts in return.

>1. Offer her the bow to shoot.
>2. Let her give you some lessons.
>3. Try to continue your practice.
>4. Custom

Next post will be the last unless somebody puts in an odd custom.

Let's see she is as good as she boasts

Also we have to ask Gnome someday why are pure elementals so damn horny

It's basically 1, but we might learn somethin' right?
Sure, lets see how she stacks up at ranged combat.

I think I'm going to pass out soon. Great run Aspie
good night
>>
>>29772707
>1. Offer her the bow to shoot.
Let her show off, and maybe we can correct her form a bit if she needs to. It'd also be useful to have someone who can fire an extremely accurate magma-tipped arrow into someone's heart at some point.
>>
>>29772724
Because sometimes they go years, decades or centuries without sex.
>>
>>29772724
I assume it has to do with the fact that They rarely get summoned because they're so powerful, and they usually go away again once their summoner dies. So, out of 800 years alive, Gnome's probably only gotten to actually live for maybe a generation or two

Tell her she's removing an article of clothing each time she unintentionally misses.

I'm calling him this now.

>1.

You hold the bow out to her, silently giving in to her constant harassment. She bounces up and snatches it and you watch her as she shoots. Her form is good, you note. Excellent, really. She easily puts every arrow into the bullseye, if not as accurately as you did, but something about the way she does it makes you think she could do so more reliably.

She turns back to you, frowning. “Ehhhh, so it’s the bow? How were you doing that earlier, Talon?”

“Doing what?” you ask, surprised.

“Putting all the arrows into each other – I’d assumed the bow was enchanted.”

“That’s just how I shoot,” you say.

She stares at you before cocking her head. “Huh. How do you do it, then? I’d say I’m mechanically better than you but you somehow beat me.”

You shrug. “It’s all about visualising striking the target. You set up the shot, then you connect your self with the arrow and the target. If I can do that, I know I will hit.”

“That’s… really spiritual,” Sala says, looking a bit odd. “Did you learn archery from a monk?”

“No, I’m not really sure where I picked it up. It’s been a skill I’ve had for as long as I can remember,” you say.

The fire elemental nods as she returns the bow to you, looking lost in thought. It doesn’t last long though, and she returns to badgering you between shots as you practice trying to focus your astral power into the arrows.

>That’s the thread, folks

I hope you all enjoyed it. It went on for a bit longer than I planned.

I may run on Sunday the 26th at 5pm EST – I’ll update on twitter within about 24 hours regarding that. Otherwise, the next thread is the 1st Feb at 5pm EST. We’ll be doing some administrative stuff and moving on Vitria. As a result, the battle may take more than one thread.

That should be

Godspeed you glorious son of a bitch.
>>
>>29772853
Cool. Thanks for the thread. Had a lot of fun, and anons came up with a lot of fun ideas as usual.
We're going to break the setting with dragon harems aren't we?
>>
>>29772853
Thanks for running OP! It was good to see us finally get past that terroroll streak.
>>
>>29772899
Eh, who knows how long it takes a normal dragon to come of age. The practical outcome of this could just be that one or two dozen dragons decide to hang out in our kingdom and 2-3 join our military.
>>
>>29772853
I could totally skip tomorrows quest just to get the smut earlier, I have waiting anxiously for a Gnome scene since we got our fist FTB
