The numbers of hallways and rotund rooms stretched in a near labyrinthine fashion while still keeping to regular geometry, the biggest of the hall was a nice uniform square but once you deviated, the storerooms gathered only dusts and broken path ended in dead ends left to rust, sometime sand would trickle down beside the many supporting columns. Even now, trying to scout and properly map this underground retreat in the desert proved difficult given its magical nature, you’ve only been squatting while putting some comfortable furniture here and there, taking chances to use this place for solitude or, alternatively, proceed in doing some… personal experiments.

That was before the rise of the Pharaoh, now on this auspicious day of Prophecy, you understand very well that you’ll have your own little war to fight, one cannot dangle a piece of meat in front of a lion and expect to come out unscathed; a number of portals were opened, it wouldn’t be such a big deal given enough time to sparse the extensive magical projection but yesterday… three of them created, you knew very well you couldn’t have Amarantha and Belphegor with you during the inevitable attack, it’s a shame you couldn’t send Bletsia out, too, but… figuring out the little miracles of this girl came first and this war already show its knack to force you to rethink the timing of your plans.
And now with destiny fond love of ironic timing, your palm holds a broken jewel, a piece of jade reminiscent of your name lying in crunched morsels, overcome by pure raw magic as the apparatus you’ve been using met the same fate, your Baphomet friend is probably going to be pissed about this…

‘’Um…Uh…’’

Her mandibles snipped together as her voice died down, as squeamish as ever the purple haired, two meters long centipede tried her best to voice her thoughts without words, her long antennas kept jolting up and down as she looked at you in guilt, those puppy eyes of hers were incredibly hard to resist, she’s so soft and squeezable you just want to hug her more and more! Unfortunately, you don’t have time for this anymore, and gesture for the Oomukade to step outside the levitated bronze platform, her entire body forced to roll on itself to keep her bottom half from spilling out, several pillars adorned with similarly broken jewels had been placed in a pentagon all around the suspended soil, richly engraved in runes and a few circles that powered down after the loss of fuel, those peculiar indentation were to hold liquid corruption and blood but…. You didn’t need to do that anymore.

‘’You didn’t do anything wrong, love’’

You finally speak out, reassuring her with a smile as her numerous, numerous legs clicks softly against the cold hard stone ground, her long and elegant body twisting left and right, appearing to float as she cast various worried glance toward the door, clutching her clothes and unable to take heart in your words.

‘’Now now, you don’t have to be scared…’’

‘’Uuh…’’

Then the concert of clicks brought her all the way back to the corner, where she then tried her best to hide, her constantly flicking antennas being a telltale sign of panic, her dark eyes shot many a worried, distanced glance toward as she put her hands over her head as you discarded the precious mineral on the floor.

Magical bursts are going on incessantly upstairs accompanied by reverberating steps as the first scouts were coming down dutifully, sounds alone projected the image of clicking metals and big, loud stomps; plate armors without a doubt, a strange anomaly inside the desert.

Yes, opening several portals and following this with a big, magical experiment whose shockwave was probably felt across the entire country wasn’t smart but a lady has to make ABSOLUTELY certain of her facts, especially when it surrounds an adorable little insect monster. The way Bletsia accomplish her miracle of crafting is surprisingly simple and therein lays the tragedy.

Not that there is time to reminisce, you feel little bubbles of excitations rouse from your chest as your heart pump in eager anticipation; barely a day pass your recovery and you are called to battle, certainly life with this demi-god soon-to-be husband of yours isn’t dull! You’d probably be cackling like a witch, but you don’t want to torture poor, poor Bletsia, her large mandibles keeps clicking together now as those rude monster invade the inner sanctum of your underground retreat like a bunch of uneducated uncouth adventurers of little renown.

‘’Don’t worry love’’

You speak low; almost growling as you stand from your entire height, the wings at your hips stretches out, nearly gleaming at the artificial light as you feel the second pair of leathery appendage on your head flap in excitation.

‘’I’ll keep you safe’’

The Demon Lord sickness is gone and now is time for the lioness to protect her cub, or perhaps the narrative ought to be a little more honest; instead the succubus desires to protect the pure heartedness of an adorable vagrant from the malevolent force of desert monsters!
Recapturing some artefacts along the way ought to be read between the lines, of course.

But… as demon Lord and liege of all monsters, you can’t help but feel a pang of guilt at the prospect of killing your fellows as, after all, each of them were created by your influence alone after the Demonic Throne took your body as main schematic to spread it all across the diverse species of murderous beasts to force this change.

On the other hand, your position has declined in recent years and reminding these girls why the Demon Lord ought to be feared would drive the point home; you’ve never shown mercy to those raising a blade against you so why start now?

>Try to stay non-lethal, it’d be best to keep casualties to a minimum, yes?
>You don’t have time for that, kill everything in your path; just try your best to avoid scaring Bletsia.

Wait, so the attack is coming from the Pharaoh's forces? Crap, don't know why she would but hey, maybe she wants the crown for herself. It's good to be the Demon Lord, and she would have a good shot at it. Lackeys, an army, probably a magical weapon or two and I doubt she's weak in the killy department. If it wasn't for the knife she might be able to take on Deruella. Provided she had backup of course.

I honestly don't know what to do. A slaughter would reinforce the "Don't fuck with the Demon Lord" reputation but then again she is supposed to be a reformed turboslut and not killing people who want you dead turns up the difficulty quite a bit so it might be just as well.

Anything that gets anywhere close to Bletsia or tries to shoot her dies horribly in any event. We ain't losing our adoptive daughteru.

Warriors loves of bloodsheds likes to elevate their training and activity to an art form; be they monsters of human, when people spend hundreds to thousands of hours training their body it’s easily understandable that they wish to prove themselves in turn. As far as you’re concerned, you’ve always found the act of killing incredibly distasteful, it was a primary motivation to revolt against your predecessor, and now even with the temptation of shifting your mind for full on battle, your prefer restraint and instead, balls your hands in fist at the clicking of encroaching metals as the first intruder make their way toward your test chamber.

‘’It’d be best if you close your eyes’’

You can’t turn to look at the poor girl anymore; the large double door of metal strain when someone start pushing them inward; you feel the telltale excitation of battle mount to your head and, even before the doors open, your wings deploy themselves fully and a surge of corruption spread throughout your entire body; greatly reinforcing your muscles as you literally jump to tackle the metal exit, bouncing them open as your entire body nearly crush them, ramming the intruder in one swoop. Sending an armored-clad, feminine body crashing down in a concert of protesting metal as they clutch a big, big two handed sword, the pommel ring as it fall and knock the stones, puff of white fume escapes the joints of the armor but the head…

It’s a floating humanoid head without a neck, kept somewhat solid by this magical phenomenon, a woman most displeased glares back at you with bright red colored sphere before widening her eyes in realization, struggling to get a wide swing but your knee come down much more swiftly right in the middle of her dark-colored plated chest, crunching the armor with your weight and speed, forcing the momentum out of her and smacking her head on the ground as you join your hands together for a single minded stomp; the arm raised in defence wasn’t able to slow your strength and just like that, the knight fell without resistance; soon the spirit inhabiting the armor flee, the body inhibiting it shrivel up and a small white ghost exit from the neck, forcing the armors to break in detached pieces while the two handed sword clang loudly on the ground.
‘’My oh my…’’
Dullahans tend to be nearly exclusive to the close guards of your daughters and powerful succubus; many of them form family of proud knights and bodyguards seldom found outside the demonic realms, they show combat ability well beyond that of most mortals and, more often than not, earn their reputation by blood instead of subterfuge, to find them in the desert is a first and your mind already race for all the implications… and you reluctantly let it go as you start hearing the telltale click and clacks of hurried sentinels, your little ambush is over now.
However, you have a little something to do before fleeing with Bletsia, this little refuge house three artefacts with one of them being absolutely vital for your dear, dear demi-god, if you are willing to collect the other two or leave them to a rising rival depend entirely on how much risk you want to put the poor Bletsia in… but now, what course of action do you wish to take, Madame Demon Lord?

Make a racket as we go to our chamber, while having Bletsia stay quiet.
Is it within the Demon Lord's spell repertoire to create false sounds and echoes? If so, we can get the Dullahans to spread out and concentrate on a different room, so that we can get to our chamber, get the artifacts, and then get back to Bletsia and escape.

One of them is Belphegor little secret project, plans stolen from the alchemical academy of the allied kingdom as well as the prototype of a ‘’hand cannon’’ was wired and modified for personal use, apparently able to create Holy and corrupted projectiles. Daiyu was too sick to care to hear more than that.
The second is a magical spear dubbed «Sanguine»; it was a gift from your second born daughter whose fondness of smiting always saw her as a bit of an oddball in the family, Daiyu hasn’t been able to use it at all because her combat mutation prevent the use of weapons. However, it was described as something able to drink the blood of its victims to renew the vigor of the wielder, as well as a massive increase in durability; it’s tied to blood magic and is, in all account, a medium-strength magical weapon.

This is only a fast summary of course.

It's not that simple, Bletsia is pretty talls and the hallways are narrows in turn, your gravity aura isn't in tune with gravity magic but Corruption, it's simply an added benefit of being a Demon Lord.

Daiyu capabilities are similar to a monk, she fight without weapons and mutate her body in an extremely lethal weapon if needed. the only ''outward'' magic she has is this aura of gravity, everything else center on modifying her body and capabilities.

Daiyu is a fearsome killing machine, but you'll have to race back to Bletsia to see if she's still safe or not since she's too panicked to follow.

You feel nearly tempted to stomp the armor into broken shards, facing demons that should be home is yet another slight on your authority as lord liege of monsters; however you simply huff in frustration and cast a backward glance toward the Oomukade, she’s changed position now that the door is open and probably huddled in one of the corners acting as blind spot for the open doors.

Smart move little one.

You squat down quickly to grab the large sword, supporting the weapon with a single arm is rather difficult even with your strength, but it’ll act as a nice lure. Already you start running toward the eastward round hall, one of the main cross that allow access for the rest of the facilities and storeroom, you send the weapon slamming on the walls a few times for good measure, creating loud echoing ‘’bang!’’ that easily spread throughout the entire facility, which in turn provoke the spread out clanking of plates to zeroes in on your position as you take the north path, the confusing mismatch of sounds make for a rather frustrating experience; it’s impossible to know the numbers of your foes and if the bait caught them all, yet now you can only commit and already, as your legs carry you in a blinding speed toward the last turn, your body morph to accommodate the threat of Dullahans, heavily armored and armed warrior shouldn’t’ be underestimated no matter the pedigree, but you still don’t want to kill and gore them needlessly.

Your wing launch and ram itself into the stone, imbedding itself into the material, creating a hole to cling to as you veer and turn; dark oil-like liquid spreading on your arms and legs, eating through the clothes as they harden in seconds right as the muscles in the membrane of your wing bend to carry you around the corner where you cross your arms above your head, meeting the coming blade with this newly morphed biological armor; the weapon clang against your flesh sending ripple of pain all the way to your elbow and ,as you grit your teeth, you bend your elbow as your speed and momentum send you crashing into the torso of the demonic knight; the two of you would have come down together from the shock but you manage to stop your fall as your wings spread out to take supports on the walls, then bend to send you flying in a jump; you make sure to kick the head of the groaning lady, hoping to take her out of the fight as the corruption spread to your feet and hands, but doesn’t change the humanoid nature of your limbs, merely coating them in dark, which in turn change into chitinous midnight black carapaces, slim and smooth like glass.

‘’Here’’

You finally breath out as you forcefully open the door to your chamber, the place you were busy puking your guts out a few days ago, the most precious of your possession simply lies inside the drawer next to your desk; you’ve never really found it adequate to put hugely important magical item in big vaults screaming «LOOK INSIDE ITS IMPORTANT» and instead preferred to keep them on your person or at least, close-by.

You nearly break the furniture as your pull out the single drawer in one smooth motion, sending panties and underwear on the floor until your hand finally click with something precious; the chain of an amulet, you pull it out gently and can’t help but smile at this old, old object.

At first glance, it looks like an old piece of jewelry made of stone. The chain looks old and rough, worn down by time while the square center saw many a cracks, the drawing and runic symbols now reduced to incomprehensible scribbling, the only thing that could give sign of preciousness would be the large, nicely cut ruby darkened by age put on the center of the amulet.

‘’Couldn’t have that during that little experiment…’’

You speak to yourself as you put it around your neck; the centerpiece lies just above your breasts and, finally, the intruder’s shows up after what must have been some deliberating, three of them jump in at once, facing you with zweihander and completely blocking off the exit.

‘’…charlatan in the guise of the Demon Lord…’’

One of them remark, clearly half-hearted, provoking the middle one to take a step forward as you turn to face them.

‘’Enough! Demon!’’

Her sword point at you and you can’t help but smile, either in arrogance or amusement, you don’t know.

‘’Come with us quietly and your life will be spared, of this I promise upon my honor as a knight!’’

My my… they’ve really forgotten the looks of their liege haven’t they? You’ve been sick for that long?

Slowly, you move your slick, dark arm forward, holding your palm outward as you look into the red eyes of each of the three Dullahans in turn, the girls seem confused by your gesture but they nearly jump to fight as you take a single step closer, the ringing of your carapace feet dwarf by a momentous synchronised forward stomp as the knight nearly simultaneously reach their swords downward, grasping them in the middle, half-swording them for advantage in this rather small room.

‘’I won’t ask again!’’

Hmm… the middle one if probably the leader.

‘’Why would I surrender to my own people?’’

They didn’t even have time to mutter a «what?»; your outstretched hand ball in a fist and you can’t help but smile viciously as a dark liquid suddenly fill up the entirety of your head-wings, your appendages were already being colored by corruption but you made sure to wait until the spell was ready to start fighting; with a simple, quiet flap the entire world around you grow thick and slow, the dust seemingly freeze in midair, yet crawl onward the floor as if the very air proved itself an obstacle, vision of the world swirled as if underwater, and the knights simultaneously struggled to keep themselves moving and realized fast what this peculiar was all about.
After all, this is you’re most efficient and, inevitably, renowned way of beating people senseless.

A high kick right behind the head of the rightmost Dullahan send her crashing, your muscle bulged and ate the corruption emerging from the unending wound of your soul, the poor girl was systematically decapitated, sending the severed head crashing to the wall and you finished the job with a an elbow charge, launching the confused body out of the room; immediately your attention came to the leader and you swiped your wings, the soft fleshy-skin having changed to gain the glint of metal, her blade met your limb in a loud clash as corruption emanated from the knight, her remaining friend stumbled backward as, of course, she could only realize that you were the real deal; none of your daughter had this very efficient aura.

Although it wasn’t exactly perfect, corruption allow a person to come tune themselves with this gravity while Holy shields are perfect to keep oneself safe of this gravity, nevertheless it is so very, very efficient when dealing with human…

‘’Now now, not so fast…’’

You can’t allow her to sacrifice her very personality!

Her sword come fast in a nice, clean arc; you block it with your wings then grab the blade with your hand, squeezing hard and fast; breaking the weapon while your second hand gleam with apparent sentient maliciousness and jab itself in the middle of the armor, your fist ruining the nicely forged protection as the undead cough in protest, you finish her off with a nice head butt that decapitate her floating head from the spiritual body, finally forcing the spirit to flee, a white trail is all that’s left as the column disappear down the hallway.

‘’I…I yield…’’

Not every demons like to openly embrace corruption, the remaining Dullahan let go of her sword and drop on one knee as she bear the weight of your added gravity out of pride alone.

‘’O-one of… one of your daughters sent us and… the Apophis isn’t going to stop, she want what you’ve got hidden’’

My oh my, this is much more complicated; you’ve heard tales of them godlike serpents, having one so close is bound to complicate things quite a bit if you linger too long.

‘’Our second squad will be coming in anyway…’’

Then she fall silent, clinging to what remain of her pride; she most likely swore filthy to one of the Lilim, not you but seem to value her life enough to give you some information.

What will you do with her?

And finally, how do you wish to proceed, Madam Demon Lord?

Both of them are pretty far, the spear is in the armory while the ''hand canon'' is in Belphegor room, the Armory is closer, you'll have to run a bit to the westward hall for the Baphomet weapon.

Wait, do we know how the hand cannon generates the corruption projectiles?
Does it draw out corruption at the time of firing?
If it does, then it would be a crucial component in slowing down and reversing the corruption of Athena.

Okay, well, WHICH daughter has this Dullahan sworn loyalty to?
One of our daughters who has aligned herself with Deruella's faction?
Or one that at least still nominally is loyal to us?
If it's the latter, then we can say that this is and order from the lady that her liege swears loyalty to, and that to disobey us it to disobey her liege.

Order her to get the spear by taking the most direct route and without speaking or interacting with her reinforcements, and to return with it to us without alerting the second group as to our location.

Mostly because we don't know which daughter these Dullahans are working for.
We're charming this one and getting the spear because they could be allied with Dereulla, but we shouldn't kill them or cause them undue harm in case they're not.
We know at least one daughter is still loyal to Daiyu, and it would be a great screwup if we were to alienate one of the few remaining allies of the Demon Lord.
>>
>>29786345
There would be no undue harm as the charm wouldn't have to last for very long. Just something like "Keep them from leaving this hallway" would do the trick. We don't have to issue a kill order, just something to keep them busy while we go about our business.

I wish we had time to be all diplomatic here, but we don't, they're coming for our daughteru and we can't afford to lose her. She's a major bargaining chip for Daiyu's sanctum in Zipangu after all. These artifacts are also a gift of goodwill. The more we have, the stronger our negotiating position, but Bletsia is by far the most important.

‘’I won’t ask you to break your oath, a Liege Lord myself, I’ll respect the oath you’ve made to my daughter – and the fact you’re actually willing to survive despite this defeat. Now arise, knight, stand tall’’

You’ve never pictured yourself as charismatic, human and angels always seem to have this quality in spades, but at least the demonic knight does as she’s told, clutching her weapons while gritting her teeth, fleeing your gaze while shouldering the dishonor of this loss.

‘’As the supreme Lord of demons and mother of Monsters, I require your aid’’

Right as her brow furrow in incomprehension, your golden eyes shine; you feel a very, very irritating tingle in the middle of your irises as the runes appear, momentarily clouding your vision in gold; corruption well up inside you and your forehead strain in effort as the knight pride and entire being rise in rebellion, resisting with every fiber of her being, forcing you to put your palms on her cheeks and lean in further.

‘’Sssh…’’

You croon, unblinking as golden pillar project from your eyes into those of the Dullahan, transferring the runes into her eyes; the knight twitch and resist some more but soon, the undead faery lies motion less, hefting her large sword and looking at you without emotions; using charm is so irritatingly uncouth… yet useful.

‘’You passed an armory on your way to this chamber, go inside and get the spear put on the wall, if it isn’t there look for an ornate weapon colored in dark red and silver, pretty hard to miss. Get it and go to the room with broken doors, be sure to defend the little girl there with your life if you must, love. See you later!’’

You kiss your fingers and rub the forehead of the short, white haired demonic knight and off she goes in a concert of clicking metal; perhaps you’ve signed her death warrant, you can’t leave powerful weapons behind…

‘’Fast. Fast…’’

Corruption morphed your legs, forced reality to accept the impossibility of ‘’speed’’ as you, almost literally, zipped into the serpentine hallways, the muscle and exoskeleton of your thighs and feet grew leaner and thinner, more than doubling your speed in the price of strength; in fact you were so fast that making tight turn would have been impossible if not for the walls in your wings, in order to avoid ramming headfirst into thick stones you jabbed your wings in the walls and bent them to carry you at the needed angle, sometime fumbling and landing on the walls, the cacophony of metal «boom» and «crash» were more than enough to dwarf whatever sound of the Dullahan and, with finesse out of the window, you rammed the doors of Belphegor room open and proceeded to stop at the level of an alchemical lab, sparing no glance to the various furniture and… strangely wet queen sized bed.

The object of your greed lays in the middle of the sea of tubes and glassware, a long cone shaped apparatus small enough to be held one handed lying in several pieces, each of them made of steel and alchemical rubber, it doesn’t exactly strike you as awe inspiring in its dismantled state but you know how much Belphegor liked to brag about it to keep your head away from the pain; it simply won’t do to leave the long-time project of your best friend to the greedy paws of bitches that wouldn’t even understand its importance.

You silently thank the girl messy nature, several pouches lay there discarded on the floor and you simply grab one and make DAMN sure to put every single pieces inside, then claps the sash around your waist where corruption work to cover the precious object in liquid armor (just like your amulet).

‘’Aaah!’’

A scream belonging to a small girl forcefully grasp your attention, you barely catch of glimpse of… something rolling off outside the hallway; it seem the second squad went inside sooner than anticipated and for now they’ve kept away from a confrontation… or so it seem; you hear the reverberating echoes of metal, no doubt the charmed knight met with resistance.

Your pretty far from little Bletsia; you could make a detour to help out the carrier of Sanguine, or take a direct route back to the Oomukade.

I can make my option even more evil if you'd like. It's entirely possible to do both with a modification to Daiyu's arms.

Put one of them in hulk mode, grab spear, and as we rush by punch the walls to make the corridors behind us collapse. Entombing our "friend" in the process and making one hell of a racket.
>>
>>29787533
That would compromise the structural integrity of the labyrinth before we're out of it, so that's more stupid than just evil.

And if we're already moving that fast, combined with our armor, we can simply barrel into the second unit like a freight train and knock them all out.
Simply zipping by and leaving the charmed Dullahan there is a much shorter roadblock than slamming into the second unit Dullahans in a narrow hallyway where we can knock them all unconscious.
That will put them down for longer than leaving the charmed Dullahan there to fight them.

Depends on what angle we come out at them from. But the theory is sound. Daiyu temporarily gives herself some pauldrons and a helmet and barrels into them. This will be extremely effective if we emerge behind the enemy unit as they'll be occupied by the Dullahan and they'll have to go anyway for us to grab Sanguine. They won't even see it coming if that occurs.

If we are not behind them then she'll be in melee with them and we won't be able to build up the required momentum to knock em out unless we knock out our "friend" as well. Still a sound plan though I will admit, but getting that spear has priority over everything at the moment and if we don't get back to Bletsia ASAP we're going to lose her.

‘’No time to wait, no time to wait…’’

Corruption work inside your body once more, spreading throughout your entire body, fueling the impossibility of your abilities while leaving behind patch of disgusting stain, your legs, and protected arms shine with a dull, ominous blue amidst the midnight slick black of the carapace; you’d change your thorax as well, but you’d be unable to prevent a shift of lethality in doing so. From the sound, you already have a vague idea of the position of the conflict, you’ll have to be fast, very fast indeed…

Small plucks of corruptions slide down your back all the way to your hips, other liquid exit your nose and mouth as you force the impossible fuel inside your body to change according to your will; the wings stretching from your wings grow dark, nearly malign as the gleam of steel disappear under the carapace, the sheer force and magic inside your body make you levitate as the wings on your head flaps gently; they may look cosmetic but those appendage work very, very well to help control the flow of corruption.

‘’Don’t you dare touch that girl…’’

If there’s one thing you’ve never been able to deny, going even above your ambition, it’ll be your motherly instinct; young girl in distress always melt your heart and the Oomukade snuck into your heart as fast as when you held your newborn daughters in better times.

‘’Fast… fast!’’

And then you copy the angels you’ve so rarely fought; your body charge forward directly into the wall, completely obliterating the doors as you imbed your knee in the wall, twist your torso and fly down the hallway, cutting the distance like an anomaly; you barely disturb the gravity of the world, sound isn’t even able to catch up, only the foreign ramming of your wings as they create holes into the wall betray the echo of your coming, the intruder that fled come into view… for a split second.

A small girl of tanned skin clinging to the ground, full of corruption and morphed into some kind of battle entity, sprouted two pairs of arms ending in wicked dark, blade like appendages, a carapace similar to yours cover her body and morphed it into something long and flexible, allowing her to roll instead of run but you’re coming immediately made her drop down on the ground in pure, comprehensible instinct of self-defence. You zip past overhead, barely disturbing the nature of the world, an incomprehensible blur of green and dark that already bend its body by destroying a part of the wall, creating a tight, impossible turn toward the left and your destination.

It’s the previous rotund nexus, the oval structure is now a battlefield with three other of these corrupted, battle-ready Khepri surrounding the Dullahan, the wicked blade-like appendage dug several wounds into the plate as the undead is struggling to fight, tying her best to use a weapon she isn’t accustomed too; you send a signal through the charm, to throw the artefact upward as your zipping behind her…

It’s all a split second as her brain register the demand and body work to obey despite the incoming strike to her flank, the insect swing wildly, her arms striking the spear as you release the knight from your control, the precious weapons bend in a column and your hand somehow grasp the shaft as you zip past into the opposing hallway leading back to Bletsia retreat, immediately the Dullahan start protesting at the fight but your already well out of reach as you, once more, jab your wing into the wall for an impossible turn at a tight angel, removing the modification for a smoother landing as you try your best to avoid scrapping the spear on the wall…

Your eyes catch a suspicious glint of red.

It’s a red light; unblinking, eternal it catches your eyes just like when you first set eyes upon the glowing ruby of your amulet, pulling you deeper and deeper, you almost feel a hand grasping the inside of your head, rubbing your brain as you look, unblinking; unable to do it. Your fist holding the spear release the precious weapon, sending it clunking on the ground as the prettiest color you’ve ever seen is almost within reach, you dark, jet-black hand reach toward it, unable to hold, the piercing, glaring light somehow become much more potent as it filter through your fingers.

‘’-hit shit. Get the hostage out now! Retreat!’’

It’s a youthful, feminine voice completely foreign.

‘’Power! Come on, get her-‘’

You feel angry at yourself and this damn bright, luminous red, your entire hand is nearly grasping something, your digit filter out much of this invasive carmine; it’s as if you’ll grasp something soft and fluffy, the best thing you could ever tough in fact, you want it… you NEED it!

Waitwaitwaitwaitwait. This voice… you remember the time you held you’re first born, a wonderful, wonderful girl, quiet like an angel and so, so very beautiful; an angel fated to be called a demon. Your second born was a little wilder, she loved to be held and was greedy for affection, but she grew quiet and content once the warm hands of her father made her feel safe, as opposed to you the ‘’easy’’ mom. Your third born… was silent, her bright golden eyes looked the world around with a unique sparkle that made you fall in love; did Deruella always possess her ambition…? Your fourth born was a sick baby, one that gave you and your husband no end of worry, sending him fare and wide, scouring the end of the earth itself to find holy mage, ending up in making an angel come to your realm while you nearly bankrupted your treasury for medicines; yes she made you worry so, so much but it was definitely worth it. Your fifth born was a heavy sleeper, neither quiet nor excited, sluggish and lazy a very easy and wonderful baby girl that grew up fast, much too fast; where is she now, you wonder? You’re sixth born…

Six?

‘’Six?’’

Five plus one, there WAS a sixth one, yes? Was.

Yes. Was.

Stillborn.

The burden of a long life means you have to get up and shoulders sins and tragedy, get past them whatever the cost since you’ll never be able to forget them with the sweet, sweet release of death, doubly so for a Demon Lord; triply so for someone with a dream like you; the bright, bright red that feel nearly fluffy in your hand grows irritating, an image pop in your mind, a little girl wiggling with the innocence of a fully grown child desperately seeking distractions from her past tragedies; maybe… maybe if you could have held her as a babe…

‘’Yu-mmmhp!’’

It’s a tearful scream, now this damn red makes you angry.

‘’Six! Seven!’’

The voice of the monsters dies, trampled by a howl; a humid roars of a nearly drowned predator, shrill with hatred and bloodlust freeze the procession on the spot, the black carapace surrounding the green-haired maiden mutate right under everyone eyes; the liquid armor bulge and pump, covering her entire body; another pair of arms spread from her flanks as her arms and hand mutate, fingers mutating horribly, growing twice as large and long while her palms swelled as the corruption worked to created weapons instead of armors, each and every single one of the digits were made to look like sickles. Gleaming with the wicked sight of sharpened steels transformed to ding into the skin of foes and gore them like animals while grasping and severing their weapons, the Demon Lord body ought to be the liege most lethal apparatus. The face itself mutate as the corruption spread to her nose, covering everything downward at the level of her neck; sickening cracks and twitches can be heard, echoing down the hallway as her face… separate, opening a jaw big enough to go from ears to ears as rows upon rows of teeth seemingly never end in a lake of dark liquid dripping down her face.

The one to scream is a small statured gazer, a small statured girl of gray, nearly white skin standing upon a blotch of floating corruption where innumerable tendrils exit the core, themselves indeed in big, red eyes that now float about in panic as the Cyclops jump down to flee… but is caught by the predator, the hand of the Demon Lord fly to her neck, the sickles-fingers dig into her skin, immediately making her choke on her blood as she try to voice out ‘’mercy’’ while her retinue, 10 heavily modified Khepri, flee at once as the mouth of Daiyu Jawahir open… and close around the face of the mental corruptor, creating a sickening, loud and wet «snap» as it dig into the meat, robbing the poor girl of a face, reducing it to a gored out mess of flesh, meat and blood; the second pair of arms rip out the small arms of the monsters and, finally satisfied, Daiyu throw the carcasses like one would discard a piece of bad cake; now that she ate the juicy parts, there wasn’t any needs to taste anything more.

And now, here you stand, facing a creature out of this world, fear ice your limb over as the bright, golden eyes of… of Daiyu Jawahir settle on you, her body somehow grew up to two meters; never before have you seen something so grotesque, yet strong; beyond the grace of Hadraniel, beyond the steadfast charisma of Siegfried, beyond the authority of Tsukiyomi…

>We have them
Not really, we don't.
Bletsia is the only one who can write those teleportation scrolls without corruption problems, and she needs to be writing scrolls for the war and repairing the Demon Lord's Throne, since that's still broken.

It still takes time to write those scrolls and for the treatments.

Using the phrase "thinking with portals" doesn't excuse you from all of the other considerations that have to be taken into account.
>>
>>29790284
There are others who can make them, that Anubis for instance. And the corruption problem is minimized if they don't fast cast it. All Tsu did when we portaled to Mylen was throw up a bit, but she does that after every cast and was fine a minute later.

I doubt they've stopped Rhy's treatments, as they need the Queen to be nice and mentally stable in times of war. So she has to be getting there somehow. Portals are just the most logical. But there could be other ways. Given her potent scrying abilities she could be having them "over the phone" as it were.

Either way, it wouldn't be impossible or too draining on resources.

But more importantly, how feasible is it to get Bletsia time with the Sea Bishop? Will she need to stay at that inn in the mountains? Could we get them to come to Bletsia and Rhy?
>>
>>29790575

Feasible enough, altough the lack of water is a pretty big problem, the girl is staying there because she want to stay out of the war though, and keep herself out of the water clans business.

Recruiting her might be hard, but then again the very best way to heal up a person spirit would be for them to stay with her in that nice, quiet retreat with a now dead forest.
>>

That doesn't really sound feasible then.
Do we really have such easy access to teleportation like this guy says >>29790434

It sounds like it would be problematic unless we send Bletsia away to stay at the inn and just periodically pick up completed scrolls from her.
>>

Portals are relatively easy for powerful creatures, the way they work is that the one creating it must have been to the location before (seeing picture/drawing is not enough, as they must literally search their memories for the area, sometime going as far as recreate the memory magically).

It's a pretty big spell made to look easy because you've been spending time with magical grandmasters, cosntant back and forth is possible, but you'll exhaust the mage really fast and they'll need to evacaute that corruption probably daily, depending on the frequency of portals.

Okay, so, the casting itself is easy because we have Grandmaster Mages, but just because it's easy to cast doesn't mean that it has a trivial cost.
Is that right?
So in peacetime, it would be trivial, but in wartime, when that extra bit of exhaustion can be the difference between life and death, it's not trivial?

Because the implication of the first paragraph conflicts with the implication from the second paragraph.

Correct.

>So in peacetime, it would be trivial, but in wartime, when that extra bit of exhaustion can be the difference between life and death, it's not trivial?

It's not going to be trivial for either case, it's just that in peacetime they can actually rest after making it, as opposed to the constant stress of warfare. It's a widely used method of transportation, but not big enough to move entire armies, you could also commission a set of teleportating runes, which would in turn, reduce the cost to almost nothing.
>>
>>29791109
So that's how the humies, whose mana batteries tend to be much smaller than those of our fluffy tails and other powerful monsters, manage such a big spell.

Then again, teleportation would probably be impossible otherwise unless some lucky bastard got "space" as an origin. Man, that guy would be so broken.
>>
>>29791109
>teleportating runes
How difficult would it be to get a set created to go to the inn? Do the runes have to be permanently installed, or can one end be moved as a person moves around?

And it sounds as if simply teleporting to the Sea Bishop's inn for appointments is far less effective than actually staying there.

All in all, it sounds as if >>29790434 might have been correct that it's not impossible, but was wrong on it not being too draining or being a minor thing to do.
>>
>>29791229

Not too difficult, make osme orders here and there and Tsu/ame will commision it from wartime funds and the militia keeping the peace in the capital.

The runes are permanent on BOTH side, meaning the place you want as anchor (inn) and the exit (say, the fort). Not even destroying them will make the portal unusable, as such a creation usually leave a ''tear'' in the world that can be replicated, given enough time.

It's why the room inside the Xenon mansion was so fortified.

>And it sounds as if simply teleporting to the Sea Bishop's inn for appointments is far less effective than actually staying there.

It kind of work in tandem, for the spirit to heal effectively, you need a nice, quiet, pretty place. Can't just slap a spirit bandaid and call it a day, you need to relax too.

>All in all, it sounds as if >>29790434 might have been correct that it's not impossible, but was wrong on it not being too draining or being a minor thing to do.

Pretty much, it's possible but draining, like anything that take efforts.
>>
>>29791300
>Not even destroying them will make the portal unusable, as such a creation usually leave a ''tear'' in the world that can be replicated, given enough time.
So teleportation runes are a major security concern, where not even self-destructing the runes would assure security.

Both sides of the teleportation circuit would need to be secured to prevent an enemy force suddenly popping up where you don't want it, or even worse, one of the Church's Holy nukes.

And finally, is Bletsia's scroll-making too distracting, such that if she were to be writing scrolls at the same pace as she was when she was working with Belphegor, that it would make any spiritual treatment at the inn a waste?
>>
>>29791420

Bletsia scroll are an effective way to significantly reduce the cost of the spells.

Daiyu finally discovered the secret behind her ability tough, and as stated in my opening, described it as ''tragic''.

So keep that in mind.

So basically, it's like that so that if anything or anyone they don't like comes through the portal they just unceremoniously waste it with a barrage of arrows and spells. Smart.

So we'd have to garrison some troops around it to make it "safe". The grotto shouldn't get too much of their attention unless it gives off a strong pulse of magic every time it's used. Then they'll get wise to it after a few days and we can't have that.
>>
>>29791533

I figured it'll have more impact to have Daiyu tell it to Siegfried. Anyhow I need to concentrate on closing the thread, so I won't answer questions until that's done.

You don’t want to feel scared; Daiyu has been so, so very fun, gentle and… she kind of remind you of Hadraniel and Tsukiyomi, there’s this unmistakable sadness hovering above her like a shadow that make you feel like squeezing and hugging it away as often as you can; she still tried to make you feel better despite her sickness, hiding it until it became completely overwhelming, keeping herself strong despite the struggle, she remind you of your mother more than anyone and you couldn’t help but feel scared that scary ladies would come and kill her, too. It almost happened today, but now she… she’s… so…

‘’Yu…’’

A whimper escapes your mouth as fear completely ice over your body; a two meter being of pure, raw intimidation and murder close in and you can’t do anything but stare at the humane, golden eyes of the Demon Lord; her steps are loud, you try your best to concentrate on her eternally smiling face betraying the row of razor sharp teeth inside, you still see blood and hint of mouth clutching the outside, saw-like formation of the jaw and almost puke on the spot as you can’t help but glance at the mutilated corpse of the gazer.

‘’Yu..yu…’’

Talking is hard, you want to do it, you want to tell all the people and your friends the things you want to but… each time you try, you remember the scream of pain of your mother and it inevitably freeze your tongue; her last words were for you to keep silent no matter what, to lay hidden and never, ever speak despite whatever things you’ll hear. It’s hard to forget this, in fact it’s impossible, but you like making yourself useful, you just… don’t want to die, never. You can’t die, Tsukiyomi, Hadraniel, Siegfried, Athena, Sylphis, Rhy, Daiyu, Belphegor, Amarantha, Ame-no-Uzume all of them keep saying that ‘’you’re important’’ but they’re the one going out there and fighting! Staying behind is so… FRUSTRATING.

Thus your hands ball in fists and the terror in your heart change into fire; the behemoth the Demon Lord transformed into peer over you and meet her gaze, dangling your antennas in front of you and failing at keeping your trembling under control, you furrow your brows and glare at Daiyu.

‘’B-b-back…. Senses!’’

Daiyu eyes shoot up in sudden realization, your so damn afraid you’d probably lose content of your stomach and bowel If you had anything in there, but the big creature take a step back as its big, big jaw open.

‘’Yeah, grab the spear, I’ll… we’ll go home’’

Whether Daiyu lost sight of her humanity or not, you’ll never know, but the light of her gaze changed into something that was much truer to her usual self and your terror evaporate halfway, you maneuver past the behemoth, clicking your various legs and nearly launching yourself to grasp the spears both handed while the activity down the hallway increased in an incomprehensible cacophony, but you did catch something rather unique; the edge of a leathery wings protruded outside the holes left by the destroyed doors.

‘’Come on, I can’t morph back quickly’’

Already, a big, black portal had been created; like a wound upon reality itself it swirled infinitely, rolling and spiraling upon itself, making the destination impossible to guest, but you trusted her with your life and charged forward without a moment hesitation.

So the Dullahans weren't working with the Gazer or the bugs, were they?
Sounds like the Lilim the Dullahans worked for was in competition with the Apophis, and they were trying to get the artifacts and a hostage before the other.

Something like that, there's power struggle everywhere but the situation was much, much more complicated, there's a few happenings in the desert, as you can guess.

Not all the Lilims are in the same camp and Daiyu love her children very, very much.

I'm really tempted to make one of them like >>29789563 her, but as I said earlier, I'd like all the girls to ressemble each others since they came from the same couple.
>>
>>29792577
So it's more complicated than just a Pro-Daiyu and Pro-Deruella civil war.
Is each Lilim heading their own faction?
Starting up brushwars with other nations?

I see, sucks to be stuck in murdermode, hope nobody sees us like this. So was the all out mode you mentioned where she could evolve spines if desired? Also, is there any way for her to reduce her corruption levels if given some time? Because by the end of this she'll likely have to throw down and have a big fight and her being on the brink when the time comes is something I'd like to avoid.

I do wonder why Bletsia's mother swore her to silence, but that can wait I suppose. If only she knew just how important. The girl can do something truly unique in the world, such a powerful gift. Not killing her was the best decision ever.
>>
>>29792658
>I do wonder why Bletsia's mother swore her to silence
Why she did that is kind of obvious.
If Bletsia didn't keep quiet, she would have been found by Belvedere and been killed.
It was said when we first found her, and it was reiterated right here >>29792426

If you really didn't get that, then you need remedial English classes.

Lilims are highly individualistic, but the civil wa is going on, Deruella may be having one sister helping her out, Daiyu had one of her child as an ally before... things happened near the begining of the quest.

So all in all, there's two probably MIA you have no idea what they could be doing, one of them being an ally of Deruella.

One of them is actin in the desert, as you saw here today, so that means

>>29792658

Her final evolution need the amulet and is all the way up to 90% lethality. It's a rather nightmarish sight.

As for corruption, every monster that cast spell gain some of it, she'll need to purge what she got into another vessel [but that's not really efficient] or have Siggy eat it. for a sense of scales, EVERY single mutatiosn you did today combined added to about 0.3% corruption.

The mutation into a beast of murder was a whole 3%

Not sure it was her exactly that did the deed. It could have been her, but we don't have much evidence to support the claim. We never really learned who exactly killed her mommy dead (I don't think, the arc where we got her was a long time ago so I don't remember everything, sue me).

Charmed mantises, racist bigots, or simply other church agents could all be potential guilty parties. We never learned the why either I don't think.

No, it was pretty much Belvidere. We knew it in-character, too.
In fact, I think Belvidere even boasted about it when she was knocking Sylphis around.

Ok, thanks for reminding me. Still feel kinda bad about what happened to her though. She deserves to die, horribly in fact, but what she got was worse than that. It also means she's *still* a pain in our ass, just under new management and now a hell of a lot sluttier. Dead Belvedere wouldn't give us any new problems.

For one, the gazer is basically a Cyclops, and we all know what happens to them. If they're not getting bullied they're getting killed horribly.

Secondly, the story has a serious tone. As such, things like people dying tends to happen. And they way you set her powers to work, yeah, it ain't gonna be pretty if she gets pissed off. They brought it on themselves really, trying to fuck with the Demon Lord and all.

This was a good update. I swear someone's hacking the dice though. They've never been so nice to us.
>>
>>29793060
I'm disappointed we didn't keep the Dullahan or captured the Gazer.
They were prime sources of current, up-to-date intelligence concerning the civil war in the Demon Realm, which Lilim is allied with which, and who's starting fights with other nations, not to mention just how much power this Pharaoh wields.
As important as the war between the Church and Zipang is, it's still a regional conflict and there's still the rest of the world to consider.

I think I'm making it pretty obvious that I'm grooming Bletsia to be a protag of the sequel, am I? Or at least, I'll try. She can still die

>>29793144

That's true, but as it stand right now Siegfried, ame and Tsu can't really do much about it, the Church might is terrifying enough as it is. You COULD have gotten one, mind you. You would have had to sacrifice the spear for the Dullahan and the gazer... well actually I'm not sure how she could have gotten out of that one.
>>
>>29793224
We could have knocked aside the bugs fighting the Dullahan to get both spear and Dullaha.
As for the Gazer, she would have had to surrender to Daiyu as soon as she blew through the doors.
Or, you know, Daiyu rips half of her eyestalks off and simply lets the pain and shock knock the Gazer out for capture.

Daiyu was too far gone by the mental pollution and sudden shift to spare the poor girl I'm afraid, she really became a beast of murder at this point, hellbent on killing her, going beyond what a Demon Lord should have been.

then agian Istarted my text on a failed roll and shifted what I could toward a success, I jsut wanted to picture the horrific power that the Demon Lord could in all its infamous glory.

I should probably have left the choice for the Dullahan, that's a pretty fair point

Welp in all we got a weapon that will one day change the face of warfare (and make the mundanes able to take on mages one on one), A major power boost for our Lancer lover, and whatever the hell that amulet does while still retaining possession of Bletsia.

So as far as helping the Zipangu war effort goes we made out like friggin' bandits. Not getting glorious info sucks, but I knew we couldn't have everything. We got more than I thought we would while keeping the girl around honestly.

>>29793267
It sucks but there will be time after everything else is settled to do this. It is a regional conflict true but the parties involved are major geopolitical hitters. Dat church man, it's got some major pull, like the Catholic Church back in the day. Kings still ruled, but when the pope spoke, they listened intently.

As far as geopolitic goes you can safely think of the entire North, Central and South/church being the equivalent of Europe in term of importance/history, with Zipangu being a big as the UK with ireland spread in several tiny islands.

It's a pretty damn big place, you haven't seen much of it at all.
>>
>>29793391
>but when the pope spoke, they listened intently.
Just like how popes were run out of Rome, had to pay ransoms to invaders, and the Crusades were generally just the justifications needed to acquire riches and lands?
>>
>>29793493

At least in this setting the Pope got the armed force to back his words, so people listen. With attention.

Ah, there's still that one lilim who still loves mommy. Of course, Tsu might have killed her so that'd put me right back at square one.

>>29793493
Kinda sorta. Thing is the power of the Church wasn't a hard power but a soft one. The people, you see, were true believers. If the priests in the pulpit started calling the king a heretic you'd quickly find yourself with a revolt on your hands. Thus, they tried to keep the Church happy. Open defiance didn't start until the Reformation, and that was usually just some excuse to seize church lands for the throne.

And like the GM just said, they also have an army unlike the Catholic Church of old. So it ain't just revolts ya gotta worry about, it's getting an army shoved up your ass. And they have mechs.
>>
>>29793542
Yes, things are vastly different when the Pope can call down a literal army from Heaven, and Angels can devastate mundane armies.

The point, however, was that in history, the Catholic Church may have been powerful, it did not outstrip the power of kings.
>>
>>29793589
>If the priests in the pulpit started calling the king a heretic you'd quickly find yourself with a revolt on your hands.
Can you provide a single instance of that ever happening?
Because I haven't read of that ever happening.
>>
>>29793601

It did have an undeniable hands in politic beyond the effect of the Crusades; especially the Inquisition, now that was a nasty business down in the Peninsula... But it's true that it never outstripped kings (at least as far as I can remember off the top of my head).

Something more or less mirrored in the politics of this quest, Siegfried brother is openly moving against them now but they never really had the power to burn him alive, unlike his father who got burned for heresy, something he never forgot or forgave.

That's one instance of Church outstripping kings but that whole situation was a big, big mess anyway.
>>
>>29793601
Never said it did, but it was definitely something that could not be ignored or simply glossed over. The Church mattered in the decision making processes of the kings, and they liked to be on its good side if they could help it.

>>29793616
I don't think it ever happened, but the priests had a great deal of influence over the population. Most were illiterate see, had to rely on the priest to tell them the word of God. You could, if you so desired, make shit up and they'd never be able to call you out on it because how would they know? And who would the common peasant believe? Some rich noble brat or king, or a man of God?

I'm not a history major however, so I don't know the entire story. But there was good reason why a King would bother to curry favor with a man who has no standing armies at his command (deep pockets though, old time Church had deep pockets. Them Cathedrals weren't free and they weren't cheap either).
>>
>>29793707
>Never said it did,
Yes you did.
>>29793391
>Dat church man, it's got some major pull, like the Catholic Church back in the day. Kings still ruled, but when the pope spoke, they listened intently.
You imply here that the Catholic Church was given special consideration.

Of course a king would listen intently to a foreign power, especially one that has set up shop within his kingdom. He didn't give it special consideration because it came from the pope, he considered it because it was another foreign nation that had to be dealt with. And sometimes that mean waging war against the Church.
>>
>>29793831
Still factored in to their plans. It still mattered. Getting considered at all by royalty was a special thing, still is today if we count high levels of national governments. Doubly so for major players like the U.S. or Russia. If you're even mentioned during big meetings you're able to make them worry somehow. Not everyone can say that.
>>
>>29794016
>Still factored in to their plans. It still mattered.
As did a great many other things, such as the price of tulips and the cost of bales of wool.
And right now there's at least a dozen corporations that a G8 nation has to keep track of.

The point is that, you are giving the Catholic Church far too much credit in history, and your comparison of the Church in this setting to the Catholic Church from history from >>29793391 is inaccurate.

Of course it is, the Church is an order of magnitude more powerful and influencial here because Humanity got nearly wiped out, the Great Crusade was the time the Faith really got into power hardcore.

You keep on screwing up over and over.
Step up your game.
>>
>>29794400
That will depend heavily on how this all ends. We'll have to still be alive for one, alliances and important treaties required a bond between the parties. That bond was usually marriage. High level noble marriages were primarily a political affair. If we die before the wedding his little plan is screwed over big time.

Provided the nuke doesn't go off, Orion makes his exit, and Deruella is dealt with somehow Lex and his faction will have a pretty clear shot at taking over most of the church hierarchy given time. That will make relations with Zipangu and Gil much more amicable instead of adversarial.

>>

>You'll have to be the judge of your brother ambition in due time
It's not like his ambition of a single empire of Humans and Monstergirls is a bad thing. Especially if it can stand up to the rising power in the desert, and whatever nations exist across the ocean.
>>
>>29794715
Depends on the size and scope of the empire. Also, this is just an alliance. That means if he's attacked Zipangu has to help him, and vice versa. They are not obligated to send in troops to help him expand his reach or conquer new territory. They can if they want, but they don't have to. I'm also not seeing the fluffy tails as the empire types either. Too much war and bloodshed for them to be comfortable with.

Now if he can get it all through making alliances and build up to a full confederation everyone might be cool, but in those circumstances there isn't one absolute ruler, so it depends on if he wants the world to be run a different way or if he wants to actually rule the world.
