You are Logan Drey, the Void Knight.
Last time you saved a village under attack by four-armed reptilians, and managed to not flip out when you discovered that the village was in fact populated by four armed reptilians.
In fact, you even made friends with the village chief and impressed his child with your detachable arm.
After getting a good nights sleep and waking up to a situation so bizarre that you couldn't help but laugh, you decide that it's time to move on with your journey.
So it's into the limitless void you go.

Out in the dark, empty space you take a look around you.
All around you see thousands of stars. Taking a closer look, you can see thin connections between them.

<Are those Aether threads?
>Yes.
<Can we get coordinates for other worlds by searching for them out here?
>No, you are simply moving much too fast in the space for anything resembling accuracy.

That's disappointing, looks like you'll have to do this the slow way.

After a few long minutes you feel your blade catch something ahead of you, signalling the end of your journey along the Aether thread.

You almost forgot about this part. Remembering all the times you fell flat on your face, you prepare yourself for the sudden reintroduction of gravity.

You stumble a bit, but manage to remain standing.

<Initiate area scan
>Scanning...

You'll have plenty of time to work on your entrance in the future. Right now you need to make sure that you live to see it.
"Legs, arms, torso, head. Good! It's all still here. Wherever 'here' is..."

You examine your surroundings, this is definitely not earth OR the Crossroads. But hopefully you're one step closer.

Or further away. You can't really say for certain at this point.

The grass is an orange-ish color, the trees around you seem to be a reddish brown with leaves the same orangish color as the grass. It all blends together to make everything look like it's on fire. Which is somewhat alarming.
The sky is a cloudy-grey, which is comforting in its own way. At least cloudy skies halfway across the universe are the same color.

>Scan complete!
>Nothing around you but harmless local fauna. There appears to be a road in that direction

A small prompt appears in your eye pointing to where the road is. With no other waypoints, you go towards it.

Once there, you see that it's a fairly simple gravel road running in two directions.

>[ ] Go left

>[ ] Go right

Well, you aren't really too attached to either direction. So rather than decide, you reach into the bag of coins that Nosim gave you and pull one out.

<Is this seriously just a gold coin?
>Analyzing...

While its doing that you look at the faces of the coin. On one side there appears to be a magical-looking circle, and on the other side there's a very fancy castle with a bunch of symbols that you don't recognize under it.

>Analysis complete!
>The coin is made of gold with traces of other elements.

You sigh. "I'm not sure what I expected..." It does make sense that a universal currency would be something that retains its value across worlds. You were just hoping it would be something more interesting than gold.

With that settled, you settle the coin onto your thumb. "Weird magic circle I go right. Castle I go left." That sounded odd.
With a quick flip, the coin flies up a bit before coming back down into your waiting hand. You then catch it and slap it down onto your left arm before lifting your hand to see what came up.
"Weird magic circle it is! So... Right." You say, turning on your heel and walking on down the road.

[1/?]
>>
You walk down the path for a while, listening to the staisfying crunch of the gravel beneath your feet.
As you walk, something occurs to your.

<Are you searching for more coordinates?
>Would you like me to?
<Yes.
>I will begin searching then.
<Could you do that automatically when we get to a new world?
>Yes.
<Do that please. I don't wanna be sitting around waiting for new destinations only to find that none have been coming.
>I will add that to my list of altered protocalls. Would you like me to give this priority over other processes?
<No, if I need other things done throw the calculations onto the back burner until they've finished.
>Understood.

It occurs to you that you would never have made it this far without this unit, so you add

<Thank you.
>You're welcome.

Satisfied that your journey will continue, you keep walking.

And walking. And walking. And walking.

<You wouldn't happen to know if there's anything at the end of this road would you?
>I do not.
<Do you know what planet this is?
>I do not. If you made it to a civilized area I could extrapolate upon architectural and social circumstances for a fairly accurate estimate.
<But I'd need to reach one first.
>Correct.

Well isn't that just wonderful...

After a few more hours of walking, you start to hear an all too familiar squeak.

"Son of a bitch..." You curse, you had hoped that was never going to come back.

Figuring it best not to over work your part, you sit down against a tree and pull out your bag.

"Let's see... wrench, screwdriver, spares... no oil?" You rummage around in your bag for a little longer before sighing in defeat.

"What a thing to forget..." You say, picking up a small rock and chucking it at a tree across the road

You sit for a while and weigh your options. You ARE on a road, and it doesn't look like it's seldom used. If you waited here you could try and buy passage to wherever the heck this road goes.

On the other hand, you could keep walking in the hopes that civilization is not too far. And hope that they're advanced enough to have some form of lubricant.

Either one is a long shot, but they're pretty much your only options.

Your lack of preparation is forgivable all things considered. You didn't really get much prep time, nor were you expecting to be halfway across the universe.

But as forgivable as it may be, it doesn't change the fact that your knee is grinding against itself.

You have no idea when you'll be able to replace any of this stuff, so you decide that safe is better than sorry.

<Would you be able to keep watch around me while I take a nap?
>I would have to keep your left eye open and reroute visual information into my systems. But yes.
<Good, wake me if anything gets close.
>I shall.

And with that, you resign yourself to the situation and doze off.

"Thanks for seeing me man. I know you're busy as all hell." Derek says with a smile.

"No problem, fixing stuff is my job after all. Let's take a look." You say, ushering him into the small chair on the other side of the room.

Derek walks over to the chair and sits down as you pull up a stool in front of it.

"What sort of trouble are you having with it?" You ask.

"It hasn't been responding properly. Signals seem to be getting jumbled. Anything you can do?" He asks, looking slightly worried.

"Well, let's see." You say, popping Dereks artificial left leg off.

With a flashlight in one hand and a screwdriver in the other you poke around inside the socket, which is just above his knee.

"Anything in particular? Signals getting jumbled is several degrees of vague..." You say, still poking around.

"It's mostly the knee. It doesn't seem to be catching properly when I step on it. Like there's a delay in the lift signal when I'm walking or picking something up." He explains.

"What model is this?" You ask, you're fairly certain you know the answer already but it's good to make sure.

"Arcor's v3 heavy duty. Why?" He says with a curious look.

"Hmm..." You know where to look now aaaaaand... "There it is!" You say as you locate the problem. "That model has a fairly loose wiring structure in the socket. This wire getting pinched is not entirely uncommon."

"Can you fix it?" He asks, looking hopeful.

[2/?]
>>
>>29811460
I forgot we are mechanic...mechanical mechanic..... well makes sense
>>
"Can I fix it? Do I look like Gerrard from the 3rd squad to you?" You say, trying your best to look insulted.

Derek look mildly shocked, before he starts laughing. "Oh man, sorry about that. I forgot that doubting you was against the rules." He says jokingly

As he laughs, you head over to the drawers on the other side of the room and grab a length of replacement wire. Then you measure it, cut it and crimp it before taking it and sitting back down in your stool.

You notice that Derek is no longer smiling. You know what he wants to talk about.

"Look man... about the scouts... GHK!!" He exclaims as you cut him off by clipping the pinched wire.

You say nothing, but you do shoot him a glare.

"Ow ow ow! Cut the connectors before you clip that shit man! Damn, that fuckin' stings! I get that you don't want to talk about Ha- URK!"

"Sorry about that. I do tend to get a little ahead of myself." You say. You've had this conversation with about three different people now. You didn't want to talk about it then, and that hasn't changed.

"Look, you're down. I get that. Anyone would be after they had to do what you did. But anyone else would fuckin' talk about it!"

You ignore him and pull out your screwdriver, sticking it in and turning the nerve connection switch. Then you reach for your solder gun and begin to replace the broken wire.

"It was good that you noticed that the scouts had been turned. But she was your gi- FUCK! WARNING! SHIT!" He yells as you finish your job and switch the connector back on.

"Don't you dare call that THING Hannah. Hannah left for that mission. As far as I'm concerned she died there. End of story." You say. Tossing Dereks leg onto his lap and waking out. "The rest is yours. I'm done here."

You walk out and slam the door behind you. Unaware of the fact that you'd never see Derek again.

The next morning the alarms would blare, signalling the end of this war.

[3/?]
>>
You awaken to the sound of an alarm. Blinking the sleep out of your eyes, you ponder your dream.

You were hoping you could forget these things and move on. Instead they seem to be haunting you. Joy.

>Good morning. You slept for 1 hour 4 minutes and 36 seconds.
>I have awoken you because I detected movement on the road.

You look in the direction that an indicator in your eye points to and see a small caravan approaching in the direction you came from.

As it approaches you can see several wagons loaded with various crates and sacks. As well as a few passenger wagons in the back.

It seems like a normal caravan. Except that there's nothing pulling the wagons. They also have no wheels. Instead they appear to be floating.

"Well I suppose that if magic exists, floating caravans are probably more common than anything else."

As you step out onto the road, the man sitting at the head of the caravan stops.

"Salutations!" You call out as you wave at the man. At least he looks like a man at this distance.

>Yes. That is one of the pieces of information I was hoping to get when you reached civilization.
<Cool. Scan that guy.

"Hello traveller! What brings a man on foot out this far?" He asks in a friendly manner At least he seems friendly

"I was on my way to the next town. I just stopped here to rest." You say, hoping that there is in fact a town at the end of this road.

"You're still a long way from town traveller. You didn't walk all the way from Tarfei did you?"

>Term recognized. Tarfei: A city on the planet Dergrume.
>Dergrume is a world with Aether threads numbering in the triple digits, as suh, travellers from other worlds are commonplace.

"Well, I came here from Palia somewhere over that way. I figured I was headed for Tarfei, must've gotten my directions screwed up..." You say, laughing nervously. "If it's not too much trouble, could you maybe give me a lift to the next town?"

"Shouldn't be a problem, it'll cost you a gold though." He says, eyeing you strangely.

You're not quite certain if he's ripping you off or not, but you aren't exactly in a position to bargain. "Sounds reasonable enough." You say, walking over and tossing him one of the coins from your bag.

The driver looks somewhat human, with a few differences. He's pretty short, but that might be an individual thing. Other than the pale grey skin, long skinny fingers ending in buldous looking things and the 4 slits where their nose should be he looks almost human.

He examines it for a moment to ensure that it's real. Satisfied, he smiles at you. "Alright traveller, passenger cart is 5 carts back." He tells you.

Without further ado you head to the fifth cart back, careful not to bend your right knee too much. It looks like you'd expect a passenger wagon to on the inside, mostly empty with a bench on either side.

Hopping in, you notice that there's only one other person in the cart. A wealthy looking... whatever these guys are...

<Scan this guy.

"I wasn't aware we were taking on passengers..." He says, looking at you disdainfully. "I may have to talk to that driver."

"Don't be hard on him, it's not like he did it for free."

"Anyhoo, my name is Logan. Who might you be?" You say, figuring that if this is going to be a long ride you may as well introduce yourself.

"Baleds Thame. What's an Aklabran doing all the way out here?" He asks, looking more than a little suspicious.

You've heard that name before. Whoever these aklabrans are they must look similiar to humans, as this is the second time now that you've been mistaken for one.

"I'm not Aklabran. I'm a Human from Earth." You say, figuring that honesty may be the best policy here.

"Earth? Never heard of it. Mustn't be that important." He says dismissively. "So long as you aren't Aklabran. I've got a client from there who's buying most of the stuff on this caravan and doesn't want too much interference from his own kind."

"Who exactly are the Aklabrans anyway?" You say. It feels like another stupid question, but you feel the need to know.

"Never heard of the aklabrans boy? What, have you been living under a rock?" He says with more than a hint of condescension.

"Something like that..." You reply.

"The Runecasters. Responsible for the gate network and therefore most of the interplanetary travel. And you've never heard of them?" He says in a tone that you've heard wayyyy too many times before.

"Nope."

"How did you get here then?" He asks.

"With this." You say, pointing to the weapon on your back.

"You must be a wayknight then. Though you don't look like one. You steal that thing?"

"No." You're kind of insulted that he asked, but his assumption makes sense. Kind of.

"Hmm. They must be recruiting offworld now then." He says before turning away from you and pulling out a book and reading. A clear sign that he's no longer interested in conversing.

The rest of the ride passes in silence as you look out at the orange and red country-side.

[1/?]
>>
Other than the late prompt telling you that the person you've been talking to is known as a Qupre, a race that populates most of this planets and builds its dwellings in caves. The ride is fairly uneventful.

You are slightly surprised when the caravan goes underground. But then, the Qupre do build their dwellings underground.

When the caravan stops, Baleds looks at you. "Welcome to Hovum kid. Now get the hell off my wagon, I have business to conduct."

He's a bit rude, but you give him that one. You doubt that you could've made it here without help.

Stepping out of the wagon, you're greeted by the sight of a very strange city. "Hovum, huh?" You say to no one in particular. The whole city seems to have been built in a huge underground chasm. Lit from the top by strange glowing crystals and from the bottom by lamps and other lights.

Walking into the city streets, you realize that you still have to find a lubricant of some sort. With that in mind you

Looking around, you attempt to spot someone who seems to know the area. The first thing you notice is that you're about a foot and a half taller than all the locals.
The second thing you notice is a girl with long white hair making her way swiftly through the crowd in your general direction.

She looks like she knows where she's going. You go over and talk to her.

"Excuse me!" You call over to her.

She looks at you. "Hmm?" Something about her is strange. Her skin is light brown and her clothes are loodely fitting. The kind of thing you'd expect to see a monk wearing if this were Earth.
Her eyes are deep purple, almost black. At her side, an ornate looking sword peeks out of a sheathe.

"Sorry, but you wouldn't happen to know where I could find some kind of oil would you?" You ask her, hoping that she knows.

She thinks for a second. "Mmmmm... Ah! There's a shop up that way called 'the lamp'. An unoriginal name, as the guy who owns it sells lamps and lamp oils. If that's what your looking for." She says with a smile.

"Thanks." You say, heading off in the direction she was pointing.

"Anytime stranger!" She calls back before heading the opposite way. As she walks off, you notice what was so weird about her. "Her hair glows? H-uh..." You say out loud.

Must've been nothing. You continue into the shop.

"Welcome to The Lamp sir, how can I help you?" Says an old looking Qupre behind the counter.

"I need to buy some oil." You respond.

"It'll be 3 silver for a can, 10 for 4 cans. Anything beyond that you'll have to negotiate for."

Looking at the cans on the shelf behind him, you think one will suffice. You don't exactly have an unlimited carrying space.

"I'll take one, please." You tell him as you reach for your coin pouch. "H-uh..." You reach for your coin pouch. "I could've sworn..."
You look down and see that your coin pouch is missing. "Oh bugger..."

"Something wrong?" Says the old Qupre.

"I seem to have been had. I don't suppose I could get that oil on promise of future payment?" You say, attempting to do a sad puupy dog face.

"Pay now, or get out. Promises don't put food on the table." He says, looking somewhat angry.

Shit shit shit shit... There must be some- That's it!

You reach into the bag with your tools and pull out the coin you used in the coin flip earlier.

"So you do have coin. You weren't tryin' to jip me were you?" He says, still pretty pissed.

"Ah... heh heh... No, I forgot I had this." You really hope he believes you.

"Fine then, give it here." He says. You hand him the coin and he grabs a can from behind him, as well as 7 silver coins from under the counter.

"Thank you sir!" You say, breathing a sigh of relief and heading back outside.

Unfortunately, by the time you gather this info at least half an hour has passed. If your thief wasn't long gone by the time you left 'The Lamp' she is now.

You remember the half charge worth of void still inside your weapon and reach back. Instead of pulling it out you squeeze the secondary trigger, hoping that the Void Knight shield assilmilated the projection function.

With a hum the shield seems to flair to life, projecting a shaky but solid barrier between you and whoever is behind you.

You brace for an impact that you're unsure will come, but come it does. Whatever hit you hits you so hard that you nearly fly off your feet. But you manage to stay standing.

When it feels like it's done, you pull the KV out and turn around. "What the hell man?" You shout at your attacker. Only to find that it is in fact, not a man.

You're met with the furious gaze of a human looking woman with a sword that's bigger than yours, which is fairly impressive.

"Thorn!" The girl behind you says happily.

"I said get away from her!" She shouts back at you, preparing for another attack.

"Look, I just want my damn money back." You say, hoping she'll understand.

She stops for a second, leaving her combat stance and standing up straight. "Rose, did you pickpocket this guy?" She says, looking almost like an angry mother scolding a child

You look back at the snake-girl "Well I sort of did kinda maybe take a pouch off of his belt..." She says, her speech getting quieter with each word before trailing off.

"Yes or no." Says the woman with the sword, looking impatient.

"Yes already! Jeez!" She says, retreating into her coiled up tail.

"And what did I tell you about stealing?"

"That I shouldn't anymore..." You hear from inside the mass of coils with a bit of hair poking out. Sighing in defeat, 'Rose' slithers up to you and gives you back your coin pouch.

Continuing forward, she stops in front of 'Thorn' looking extremely guilty.

'Rose' turns back to you. "Sorry I stole your stuff..." She says.

The look on her face makes it incredibly hard to be mad, no matter how mad you want to be. "Well I guess if you've learned your lesson..." You reply, putting the KV back into its holster.

"I'm Thorn by the way, Thorn Dracia. This little scamp here is Rose." She says, putting her massive sword away and extending her hand.

"Logan Drey." You say, accepting her handshake.

"You look almost Aklabran. But that doesn't sound like an Aklabran name. Where're you from?" She asks

"Earth. And I get that a lot." You scratch your head, knowing exactly what she's going to say next.

"Earth, huh? Never heard of it."

"I get that a lot too." You hope that this isn't going to become the routine. If it is, the journey home is likely to be a long one.

"You must be a long way out then if I haven't heard of your world." She says with a smile.

"Why do you say that?" You ask

"Me 'n' Rose have been all over the place. And even before that my work involves a lot of... travel."

"I don't suppose there's anything you could tell me about this whole travelling deal is there? I'm kinda new to the whole thing..."

"Hmm... Sure, I'll answer what I can. But I warn you, I'm not exactly an expert on this shit. That's more Oz's area of expertise."

Ask her if she realizes that if we were a normal person she would have just killed someone.

Then I guess ask about these Aklebran people

This I suppose. Also ask if oz is a wizard. If yes then laugh internally all the way down the yellow brick road.

ask about the great and powerful oz...we need to speak to him about getting a way home....it all fits so well

You're about to ask her about who the Aklabrans are, when something hits you.

"Are you always so trigger-happy with that thing?" You ask, pointing to the GIANT SWORD on her back.

"What? Of course not, I'm always careful. I made sure to broadside you. Wouldn't have killed you. Might've done some internal damage, but nothing irrepairable." She says with a smile.

You suddenly feel very unsafe around someone whose definition of 'non-lethal' is enough to put someone in a hospital for a few months. But you swallow that back and keep talking.

"Also, who are these 'Aklabrans?' You're not the first person to mistake me for them and I've started to wonder."

"Well the Aklabrans are-" She stops midsentence. "Hold on. If you don't know who the Aklabrans are, how did you get here? Those fuckers manage just about all travel."

"I cut through with this thing." You point to the KV. "And I thought I was asking the questions."

"Hmm, weird. Sorry, I don't think I can explain who the Aklabrans are, but I can introduce you to one. C'mon!" She says, waving for you to come with her.

You follow her and Rose back out into the street. "So who exactly am I being introduced to?" You ask, idly looking at the different stone buildings as you pass them.

"Oh, shit! Sorry, I kinda got ahead of myself there. Remember that Oz guy I mentioned? He's Aklabran, and also a master Rune Caster. If anyone know about this shit, it's him."

You chuckle a bit. So you're off to see a wizard. A wonderful wizard named Oz.

You look at the ground to make sure it isn't yellow brick. "Hmm, that's kind of disappointing."

"What is?" Rose asks you, making you realize that there are other people here.

"Oh, nothing." You reply. Unable to stop yourself, you start to whistle the tune of 'somewhere over the rainbow'

>That's all for tonight folks. Will be back tomorrow evening.
>Hopefully the wizard of oz jokes will stop. But I make no guarantees.
