It is the year 22XX and Humanity has reached the stars. Alas, even though they have attained the lofty goal of interstellar travel, mankind has yet to conquer it’s baser instincts.

Humanity is ruled by ultra-Corporations. Some own continents. Some own multiple worlds. ut no matter who you are, everyone is a citizen-employee somewhere. The qualms that beset corporations of the past, copyright infringement, tech theft, still exist. If anything, they are amplified by the scale of the players.

Without government to turn to for legal recourse and separated by millions and billions of miles, corporations have turned to less savory solutions to resolve disputes. You are one of those solutions.

You are an elite mercenary, also known as a High Impact Public Representative, of the StrikeOut Company, a group of mercenaries who accept contracts and missions from the highest bidder. You are launched out of a spaceship in a drop pod filled with bright orange and highly toxic gel. You crash land into the target’s facilities, make a mess, do your job, and then get the hell out.

You are a Fall Guy. You are a Deniable Asset.

You wake up the next day, spine sore… well actually everything sore. You have trouble telling how much of that is muscle fatigue, and how much is fractured bones. You spend the entire day in bed, recuperating. Markos and Niels both manage to visit you, Niels bearing food, Markos bearing the expert medical insight that “You got mega-fucked, bro.”

The day after, you manage to rouse yourself out of bed, the worst fears of skeletal damage passed. You make sure to visit the Range with Niels, although mostly you just keep him company as he practices with his M24. In return, Niels starts teaching you Mocha 12, in his words “A nice simple programming language for someone stupid enough to fight the Valkyrie.”

You spend the third day tinkering around with your suit, fixing up some minor damage from the first mission before heading down to the range to practice with shotguns. The kick would feel nice, if you weren’t still sore. However, all of this is just burning time until 1800 hours, when Svenja is allowed to offer you a new selection of missions.

It is now 1813 hours, and you are walking down the hall to Svenja’s office. You pause before the door.

Resisting the urge to kick down her door and introduce yourself with jazz hands, you knock politely on the door. A moment’s pause, then Svenja buzzes you in. You open the door to Svenja straightening a stack of papers against her desk. “Hey, Svenja how have things been?”

Svenja coughs primly. “Acceptable. I had a little mess of paperwork after that bar fight of yours.”

You grin and rub the back of your head guiltily. “Yeah… sorry about that.”

“It was nothing that a couple hundred credits couldn’t fix.”

Oh. Ouch. Still, worth it. You decide to give your HR advisor a pained shrug. “Ah well, that’s the way of things. So, I’m sure you can guess why I’m here.”

“Yes, yes I can,” replies Svenja, as she slides a piece of printed out paper over to you. “I have found three missions that are suitable for you. Each one has a short description and a list of mercs who have already signed up for the drop.”

You pick up the sheet, and start reading it.

You hand the paper back to Svenja, having circled Operation Shattered Moon in red pen. “This one seems right up my alley. Cause mass mayhem, and everyone who get’s spaced is an asshole criminal too.”

Svenja nods as she takes back the sheet, and types some things into her terminal. “Alriiiight and you are registered. The mission launches tomorrow, Mr. Kostov. I think it might be prudent to visit the Armory and purchase some suit enhancements. Here,” she sends a file to your e-glasses, “This should have all the relevant info for the staff at the Armory to give you the proper recommendations.”

“Thanks,” you say earnestly. “I know it’s your job and all, but I’m glad for the help.”

“Why thank you Mr. Kostov,” replies Svenja, smiling.

You can pay it off in bits. I would actually strongly recommend that you not use all of your money to repay your debts immediately.

You self equip, after all.
>>
>>29813316
>(I bet 50 that shewould have got a bonus for not telling us tech we stole is (c) us)

Why? It's completely obvious that things that we steal without the companies knowledge belong to us. There's no way to enforce an alternative to that.

>>29813372
SO it can accrue interest and take years? Do you know anything about how debt works?
>>
I propose that, for now, half our earns from each mission go towards paying our debt, and half go towards our account(as standard, unless we want to save up for something)
>>
>>29813418
That's why you pay off the interest and some extra every time you can, so you keep whittling it away. If we tried to pay it off with a lump sum, we'd keep constantly earning trying to pay it off but the interest would keep accruing to put it past our means.
>>
>>29813316
>(I bet 50 that shewould have got a bonus for not telling us tech we stole is (c) us)

> they could enforce that tech we steal belong to our company, or to the company who contracted us for the job

>>
Hey Fall Guy, is the interest individual to the item cost, or is the interest from the total cost of the all items?
If it's the former, we start paying off the highest debt item [45,000 Credit CQC Package], and then start paying of the other two items before their interest makes them equivalent. However, If it's the latter we're doomed.
>>
OP is going to deliver soon, since posting stopped
>>
>>29813556
This reminds me. Remember what what's-her-face girl in HR said. Any data, blueprints, et cetera that we find on the mission legally belong to us. We can either keep them, or sell them to the company for a bonus. With our engineering skills we might actually be able to do something with blueprints if we can find them.

“Hey, Svenja, I ever see you in the bar-”

“And you’re not forefighting a senior merc?”

“Yeah. Drinks on me. You’re a good HR advisor.”

You leave before Svenja can reply, bustling away from her office and off to the Tram system. You want some goddamned guns. You ride the Tram down to the Armory, too excited to contemplate the stars. Hopping out of the Tram, you happen to find yourself walking into the the Armory alongside one of your soon to be squadmates, Cyrus Jalali. The pair of you contemplate each other for a moment before bumping fists. “Yeaaa-haha-hhh,” Cyrus says as your knuckles bounce against each other.

“So Ivan, what’re you doing down in the Armory?” asks Cyrus as the pair of you walk towards the front desk.

“Just signed up for Operation Shattered Moon, came here for some dakka,” you respond, grinning.

“Haha, no shit? I’m here for the exact same reason.”

Cyrus extends a fist for another bump. You decide it would be churlish to leave him hanging. As the pair of you reach the front desk Cyrus gestures you forward. “You first, Dropmate.”

You nod your thanks and walk up to the Armorer’s desk. A middle aged woman stares at you dully. “Hey so I-” you attempt to say. She does not let you. “Send me the requisition paper work, and I can set you up with a combat package.”

Must be the file Elda sent you. You forward it to the Armorer. She considers it for less than a second in her e-glasses. “You’ll need a vacuum ready envirosuit that is certified for deep space radiation. Also, you’ll need oxygen tanks. Let me send you an option sheet.”

A link appears in your e-glasses. You click it.

“I suppose I’ll go for the mark 3 O2 tank and mark 3 Suit. And... the boots. Why the hell not?”

“Very good, sir,” replies the Armorer in a tone that suggests she could give two shits whether or not it was very good. “Please step into the fitting room for your equipment, and we’ll be done for today.”

You wince as you see the credits transfer away from your checking account, already slightly depleted from your barfight earlier.

-14,000 credits
New total: 8,468 credits

You step into the fitting room, whites walls and floor marred where a device in the center of the room scans you. A few minutes of waiting later, and a hidden cubby opens, containing your new gear. You exit the fitting room, equipment in hand, and nod to Cyrus.

Returning to your room, you spend the rest of the day transferring armor plates to your new enviro suit, equipping your boots, and attaching your O2 tank to the appropriate slot on your back armor. You feel a bit bad for Cyrus. One of the reasons you trained in the techie specialization was to avoid re-equipping fees.

You go to bed early, the drop is in 1000 hours.

Hope it pays well...

Alright, last post for the night. Next thread may be on Monday, as in tomorrow. Expect lots of action and explosions.

I swear, I usually can't run on Mondays, but it's so goddamn cold here that college was just canceled for tomorrow.

Good threads everyone, keep an eye on the twitter for updates.

we can just tie a cable to our tomahawk

I think we should tie the cable to the part that we hold with our hand? The part that ISNT affected by the seismic pack(aside from recoil)?
