You lean back in thought as the stories come before you...

(Cont.)
>>
>>29837296
"There was this one fight." you say. "It was me against a Water Conjurer. Name of Monsoon." you say. "He really liked to humiliate his opponents."

"I remember him." the King says. "Loved to strip them down, if I remember?"

"Yeah. Wretched person." you admit. "So I'm just getting started in the arena, and this guy is slated to be my opponent. At the time, I had just learned magebreaking. Turns out his torrent is a single spell, instead of a series." you chuckle. "Bad decision, on their part."

"So the fight is going on and on, and they're pretty clearly stalling for time so I get tired. Eventually I get fed up with it, and I use my shield to block the torrent. Monsoon wasn't expecting it - no one was. Monsoon loved to wear drapey stuff." you laugh, trying to maintain cohesion of your voice. "And so... so it turned out, I blasted all their clothes off! By accident! And it was just a woman my age! So slime and slender she could have passed for a boy, and did!"

You lean against the table. "It didn't stop her, either, she just kept going until I finally caught up with her! I never heard the stands so uproarous!"

You lean back as the story elicits some mirth.

Sorry about that deletion, major typo.

You lean back, turning to the Dra, and sigh.
"Is it always like this?" you ask. He shakes his head.
"Long stints of boredom punctuated by short stints of fighting for the life of yourself and others." he says. "Things like this are only common in the long run. Someone always wants the royalty dead for one reason or another, and you get to deal with those competent enough to get past or through security."

"So what have you had to deal with?"

"Mostly magi." he says. "I don't have talent for it, usually I work alongside another magi, or Yui."

"Yui?"

"Our resident magebreaker. Very powerful, but against anyone without magic, weak as a boiled noodle. We make a fine team."

Something bristles. Really? Jealousy at this stage of things? Calm thyself.

"She has quite the bright blue eyes, though."

Something tumbles in your belly, but you don't lose it.

"Oh yeah." Umda says. "I found something." he reaches into his bag. Out of the corner of your eye, you see the metal rod.

But one moment follows the next, as discussion rises around it, and it's returned to the bag. You almost let out a gasp.

"Excuse me, I need some air." Mike says, rising. "If my guardian would attend...?"

You go with him, out to the courtyard. The fresh air is nice on your face.

fair enough, and beyond that one thing I just said I don't have any real reason for saying no to telling Karl. I don't know what it is, but the Doc just gives me kind of a creepy vibe.
>>
>>29838773
Maybe its the fact that he brought up being able to blackmail us and such. I think its part of his whole following Law deal. He is really straightforward, both in laying the facts down on the table and in flirtations. He smolders instead of charms, you know?
>>
>>29838684
He already knew enough to get us fired, he could have done that any time he wanted because he's the Prince. And he doesn't have anything that can stop us from just leaving.

This isn't even taking into account that the Prince has so far been an all around good person. Sure he sleeps around, but he doesn't try to be a dick about it, and he listened when we explained to him the potential repercussions. I don't think he's at all interested in blackmail.
>>
>>29838634
You relax. Something about him puts you at ease. Karl makes your heart race, and Teel makes you feel challenged, but the boy makes you smile and feel warm.
"You deserve to know. But this... This is a close secret." you say.
He nods, and you sit beside him.
"I used to live in one of the more distant towns. This was about... twenty years ago, when I was six." you say. "Which meant your father was still a prince, under your grandfather, and you hadn't been born yet. A year or so off - your father had met your mother... when, again?"

"A year before this happened."

"Thank you. Anyway. The old king found out about a Appal uprising, near his city. My father was a guard at the time, and he was offered a lot of money to allow his daughter to help the king with 'a small task'." you curl up a little at the words - on a writ you found in your attic. "That small task was carrying one of those rods into the Appal lair. They let me in, assuming I was a lost child."

You stare at the ground.
"It was... some kind of magic weapon. I still don't know what it is, and I've never seen information on it. It felt alive. And when I opened it, it reached out, and... And it pulled the souls right out of the bodies of those Appals. Right in front of me. Have you ever seen what soul damage does to a person?"

He shakes his head.

"It... It removes the life from that part of the body. It rots, almost instantly. And those poor things, it happened to their whole bodies all at once." you hold your head, trying not to conjure up memories of scales falling out, hair turning to slime... You shake your head.

"They pulled me out of there, away from those piles of dust, and news came out among the other Appals. That their brothers had resisted the king, and turned to ash. Others fell in line quickly, and their nation crumbled under the pressure from the public to surrender and unify. It was from there that your father launched his armies, and it was from there that he gained kinghood.
>>
>>29838829
Karl also insinuated unconscious gropings from the prince, meaning it was something he thought to do.
>>29838835
He even wrote us that cute little note.
>>
>>29838883
"So." you say. "What do you say, Prince?"

"I say it's horrible. I say it's horrible and I wish my grandfather was still alive so I could put him to trial. I wish my father knew and I could tell him and we could all apologize. In the eyes of the gods, my grandfather was a monster." he sighs. "Except Law." he adds. "Your secret is safe with me. I could investigate it if you want."

"Alright, I'm not much of a gambler. You'll have to teach me. But... What are the stakes?"

"Well, we've not decided yet. Going idea is drinks." Karl says. "And from there..." he lets it hang.

"Anyway." Gina says, It works like this: Each of these spheres contains five dice. Only you can see your dice." she says, sitting you down to show you. "The dice are rolled magically within a small antigravity pocket that keeps them just above the surface. Each pocket is tied to a rune on top of the sphere."

"A rune for every element of life." Teel states. "Old dra philosophy. I'll tell you later if you're interested."

"Anyway... Everyone rolls once to start the game." she says. "The bets are set with everyone betting the same. When the dice stop, the oldest at the table," she nods at Karl, "Goes first, then around the table. You choose a number of dice to reroll, then throw in a bet or fold." she says, "You tap the runes to lock in those dice. The objective is to build a hand with your dice better than the others."

"From best to worst: A straight, full house (That is, a pair and three of a kind), two pair, three of a kind, one pair, and number high. Ties are broken by value."

"So. Feel like playing?"

The dice are six sided...

Karl laughs.
"At this rate, I'll be working in the altogether tonight." he says, revealing a pair of sixes.

Teel sighs, showing off a terrible pair of twos.

He rises, peeling off his undershirt and stepping out of his lower armor. His upper body is more about strength than beauty than Karl's - small scars pepper it and the scales are finer there. He stretches.

"Looks like the boys are almost done~" she says as you lean back. "I wonder if those scales feel better than they look?"

"We'll see about that." Teel says as he rolls.

"I think... I think I need... Teel, can you carry me... back..." you slump over, falling onto the table with a soft thunk.

---

You are now Teel, Principal Guard to the Lady of State, and what a situation this is. Karl sighs, looking at what occurred.
"This doesn't ring as strange to you?"

"No." Karl says. "Most alcohols from the North are very weak. And Gina could never hold her liquor.

You rub your chin thoughtfully.
"The gentlemanly thing would be to carry them to their rooms after covering them."

"That it would be." Karl agrees.

You rise from your seat, throwing some blankets over the girls and gathering their clothes. Karl takes Gina, and you pick up Mistral, who is muttering about dra asses and tails. You roll your eyes.

This isn't an uncommon occurance, not that you mind. She's certainly not the least attractive woman you've met. Slightly abrasive, but interesting and strong. Nothing like the Lady. Ladies like these sunder the minds of men with their antics.

Ah! That's the word you were looking for!

You reach her room, laying her on the bed. You look over your shoulder and Karl has a thought.

"We could play a nasty prank..." he says in thought. "But let's not." he puts her down in her room, with her things.

You return to the main hall, putting the table away.

Nothing seems to have been tampered with.

You wander out into the night to stare at the stars. You never get a good look back home - it's very foggy this time of year.

The stars are said to be the remains of the night sky, shattered by the great dragon Bahamut. The other dragons were at war over the night sky's shimmering beauty, like a sea of diamonds - and so, to stop a way, he crashed into it, breaking it into a million and one tiny pieces. Some flew close, and those pierced the earth, and became diamonds and jewels. Some flew far away, and those became stars. And some stayed right where they were, and formed the constellations.

You sigh, laying back and watching them.

If only you could do this forever.

Can we get the King to manufacture steins appropriately sized for Gina and our mass and relative tolerance? Drinking is good, fun cut short by accidental over drink is unfortunate.

A few more days, at least. He's fun to write for, but he does have places to be. He's not intended as a long-term player in events.

Also oh god I'm so shit at lewd I should have thought about this oh jesus

>>29844059
Nope! Central liquor is very strong, and the process of brewing it makes it very sweet and hides the alcoholic bite. So for most people, it doesn't even hit until it all comes at once.
>>
>>29844094
>Also oh god I'm so shit at lewd I should have thought about this oh jesus
just do some tasteful buildup, maybe a little foreplay, then bade to black, no need to go full lewd

>>
>>29844094

Well, your options are self improvement, avoiding the challenge or outsourcing more content to the players. Most of us are probably willing to do short to moderate write in, but sorting through that will take some more time, effort and judgement on your part. Ultimately it's your call how you handle it and I'm sure whatever decision you make will work just fine.
>>
>>29844094
the lewd is good. Just gotta be tasteful, fade to black, and post a nice lewd bit of writefaggotry on pastebin with a link in here

The Appals found out about what we did, and are trying to take out the royal family in vengeance. Probably part of someone else's schemes. I'd like to think Karl's in on it, but that's because I don't trust him

>>29844134
I'm thinking something to do with our past, that rod and the representitives of the different nations coming together, the tribal chief having one of those rods and turning up right after teh second attempt is suspicious
>>
>>29844134
Something to do with the appal genocide is all I got, but I always did suck at conspiracies
>>
>>29844094
Feel free to fade to black. Just so long as there's banter beforehand.

>>29844134
It being direct revenge seems a bit too simple. They're gaining something out of his or our death. I'm pretty sure it's strongly related to us and the rod, the other assassin hinted as much.

The bodies disappearing like that with the gems makes me think that there's something freaky going on with the souls that were taken by the rod. Where did the souls go after that? What happened to them?

I think if we aim some investigation towards that direction we'll work out something important.

This is useful...

Finally, what characters do you like, and what do you like about them?

What characters do you hate?

Yes, this is Q/A. I'm asking questions and you're answering.
>>
>>29844134
Well, that was the first suggestion I noticed that the prince's attempted kidnapping and the attack earlier today were connected. Honestly asside from confirmation that the King sent out the Rod of Soul Ripping with that Tribal dude to murder the fuck out of some opposition in preparation for an "invasion" lead by his son to secure Mikey's right to succession, I got nothing. Also, the Appel(?) are probably not so beaten/subjugated as has been assumed by the current cast.

Whatever, we will see.
>>
>>29844190
I like most of the characters. I feel like they could use some fleshing out, but that's probably going to come with time anyway.
>>
>>29844190
I like all of them, best would have to be Teel, least, Karl, if only because we got to know his abs before we got to know him, the prince is funny and likeable, the king seems badass yet unapproachable, the dra princess seems like a slut and theres nothing wrong with that, Gina seems like a cool girlbro and wingman

dragon husbando is best husbando
>>
>>29844190
Karl seems pretty boring so far, if you ask me.
>>
>>29844134
Somebody involved in the assassination attempts is in the castle, or otherwise knew about us.

Two assassination attempts right as the old guard dies and the new one shows up, this is not a coincidence.

They either want to attack the Prince while we're as green as we can be in our role, or they want to kill us.

>>29844190
I really like Micheal. He is a bit of a womanizer, but I honestly think he's going to tone it down a bit and consider their feelings more after we talked to him. He's been good to us, is generally kind and honorable, he's got a silver tongue, and while he may be weak he works hard and doesn't complain.

I want to get to know the Dra Princess, Sulani, better. She seems interesting.
>>
>>29844190
Oh I like all the character. I mean, I think the prince is kind of whiney and annoying, but he's amusingly self aware of his deficiencies and is making an effort to correct some of them. And Karl's probably some kind of spy or insurrectionist (or a sleeper agent of Chaos) but he's just smug and interesting enough for me to thing he'll be an excellent resource and conversational sparing partner, or a solid villain. The rest are highly amusing in their own ways and I have to say I like us very much.
>>
>>29844190
We need to learn a bit more about Karl, since right now all he is is the sketchy abs doc. Mike is probably my current favorite. Teel is a pretty close second, but he is kind of a one note show right now. Hes a bro, but thats about all he is.

You're pretty good about rounding out any character you decide to focus on.
>>
>>29844190
I like Teel. He's got that honorable attitude without getting retarded about it. He also flows really well with our character. Got a bit of a philosophical bent going on which is nice too. We're definitely going to have to talk to him about those dragon stone meanings

Gina's really interesting, even though we haven't really talked to her much. Very fun character to read, and probably a lot more complex than she's shown so far.

The prince, I was worried about at first, but he became likeable very quickly. He's responsible, which is surprising for a character the PC has to look after, and he gives off that trustworthy aura which is pretty cool. He reminds me of Ling from FMA

Karl, I dislike for some reason. He gives me this weird vibe, acts kinda manipulative, and makes me feel like he has something planned. Not BBEG kind of plan, more a creepy personal thing.

Everyone else seems interesting, but we haven't really interacted with them enough for me to make a good analysis of
>>
I'm personally suspicious of Karl.

Teel seems good so far.

I like the prince actually. He has the right mix of lechery, gung-ho and charm. I can't see Annelin actually getting together with him, at least not more then a quick lay.

Gina seems like she could be a good friend.

Haven't interacted with many other characters. I have noticed Annelin is a bit of a horndog, but thats an alright trait to have.

I want to see who you come up with as a 'Hell of a woman' personally.

>>29844378

>>
>>29844272
I could see Annelin getting with Micheal. She's rather close to him, she trains him physically, they're both horndogs. Besides, sleeping with him means she can keep an eye on him better.

Magically cloning and sleeping with yourself.
>>
>>29844449
Using his room is mainly for convenience. A bodyguard going into and out of the prince's room doesn't attract too much attention, the prince going to his bodyguard's room, might spread rumors.

We're not exactly going to worry too much about hiding it, but some discretion is called for.
