It is the year 22XX and Humanity has reached the stars. Alas, even though they have attained the lofty goal of interstellar travel, mankind has yet to conquer it’s baser instincts.

Humanity is ruled by ultra-Corporations. Some own continents. Some own multiple worlds. But no matter who you are, everyone is a citizen-employee somewhere. The qualms that beset corporations of the past, copyright infringement, tech theft, still exist. If anything, they are amplified by the scale of the players.

Without government to turn to for legal recourse and separated by millions and billions of miles, corporations have turned to less savory solutions to resolve disputes. You are one of those solutions.

You are an elite mercenary, also known as a High Impact Public Representative, of the StrikeOut Company, a group of mercenaries who accept contracts and missions from the highest bidder. You are launched out of a spaceship in a drop pod filled with bright orange and highly toxic gel. You crash land into the target’s facilities, make a mess, do your job, and then get the hell out.

You are a Fall Guy. You are a Deniable Asset.

Hey, all DAQ players, I’m taking a moment before starting DAQ proper today because I want to talk about some things. Recently, I’ve seen a lot of anger among players when MCs in quests fail, or something bad happens to them. I’m not going to name names, or say whether or not I think one side is in the right or in the wrong. I’m just saying, I’ve seen some anger. I feel like this is something I should address now, rather than later.

You can fail in DAQ. You can die. I will be the first to say that it’ll be pretty hard to die in DAQ, mostly because I want to keep on running it, and I want to continue to build this story with you guys, and that’s hard to do if Ivan is choking on his own blood or bisected or burnt to a crisp or something else horrible. However, DAQ is not consequence free. You are a merc and so are many of your friends. Some of them might not come back. Some of them may die on a mission with you. Some of them may even betray you Full Disclosure: I have no planned treacheries, just saying, it isn’t impossible. On some level, I hope this makes you sad, or angry, or distressed in some way. It means I’ve made you care about that character.

The point is, that when something bad does happen, because it probably will, don’t view it as an insurmountable hump, and certainly don’t think that I, the QM, am just doing it because I hate you and want to fuck with you. I like watching you guys triumph. I really do enjoy watching you and Ivan succeed. However, sometimes failure is necessary, if only so that we, yes you and me, can properly appreciate success. Sometimes, whether or not you’ll see a character again will just come down to me rolling 3d10 at my desk, hoping to beat that 7 DC. I do not want to write bad things happening to you guys. I happen to quite like you for willingly sitting down and waiting for me to write out my slow-ass updates. However, sometimes bad things need to happen to push the story forward. I promise I’ll hate writing it just as much as you’ll hate reading it.

Now that all that’s been said, I don’t see any horrendous suffering in the immediate future. I’m not trying to cover my ass because in four threads all of your friends will be dead and I’ll be laughing behind my monitor saying “But anon, I TOLD you this could happen!”. DAQ is first a foremost a fun, hopefully humorous, quest with a healthy serving of action and tactics. I intend to keep writing it as such. That’s what you came here for, and that’s what I intend to deliver.

Thanks for taking the time to read the wall of text, and thanks for playing DAQ!

“Well, we don’t necessarily have to destroy the base…” you mutter, trailing off at the end. “We just need to eliminate all of the LLS personnel in the base or something else along those lines to render it unusable, force them to evacuate.”

“Yes, perhaps that is possible, Kostov-san.”

“But either way, we need to let Clayton and Cy know about this. C’mon, we have a rendezvous point back at the mess hall.”

You take point and lead Tsukino back to the mess hall, the pair of you moving as fast as possible through the winding corridors. You keep on double checking your comm icons. Cy and Clayton’s remain determinedly yellow. You run up to the mess hall airlock doors and key them open.

You can see someone standing in the middle of the mess hall. They are tall. Much taller than a normal human. The man is covered in a mechanical exoskeleton, the framework plugged into an ENBI uplink grafted into his spine. Suddenly, he’s crouching, arm hanging low, as if he’s thrown something.

The table soars through the air, taking wing on the recycled atmosphere like a bird. Adrenaline kicks in, flooding your brain. You seize Tsukino by the arm, dragging her alongside of you as you leap sideways, sliding across the mess hall floor. The two of you skid to a stop just as the metal table strikes the opposite wall, clattering against the metal door frame.

Tsukino disentangles herself from you and the pair of you stand upright, weapons drawn. You note that Tsukino is armed with some sort of katana, although you doubt the neon highlights on it are traditional, and a silenced pistol. You notice her taking stock of your revolver and tomahawk. Less than a picosecond of eye contact, then the two of you face your opponent.

Fucking Hell. He is tall. Almost two and a half meters in his suit, metal exo-skeletal struts accentuating bulging muscles. He smiles. It is the same smile Valkyrie gave you. You are about to get fucked, this time in a less literal sense. You hope.

“Well, look here at disya, mon. Two baby mercs, all alone in de big ol’ moon base.”

You take an involuntary step back as he punches his fists together. The movements framed by a mechanical whine.

“I was thinkin’ of leavin’ yah both alone,” he sighs, shrugging, “but credits is credits. Even if dey come from de Babylon.”

“Th-the Babylon?”

“De system, mon!” cries the huge man, exasperation somehow mingling with psychosis, “Yah’llre slaves and servants to de system, to dey're credits and plots and ploys. Dancin’ on a string like a zombi for your masters.”

>>
Tsukino’s comm icon appears in your HUD. Now’s not really the time, but you figure she knows that. You open the channel.

“Kostov-san. I think I know of this man.”

“Oh good, cause I’ve got no fucking clue.”

“My father told me about him once. He is some sort of anarchist freelance mercenary. He serves his own inscrutable agenda. My father fought him once. Sixty years ago.”

“Well, either you’re a lot older than you let on, Tsukino, or your dad made it outta that fight in alive.”

“Alive yes, but not unharmed. We must be careful.”

You refocus on the man ahead of you. His arms are crossed, metal foot tapping loudly against the base floor. “Yah done talkin to your woman?” he asks, laughing. “Good. Ain’t polite to keep people waitin.”

He raises both fists into the air, the ranged weaponry attached to his forearms lie dead, unpowered. “Now, gimme a show, boy.”

>Plan of Attack required.
>Temporary control gained: Tsukino!
>Better work her into your plans, she’ll be following your lead for this fight.

>>
>>29907312
i assume tsukino's scifi katana is actually suitable for armored units?
>>
>>29907312
Let's party

>charge to the sides, try to flank
>Tsukino distracts him, we try to ax his spinal controller
>>
>>29907312
We need to bait him into attacking us and we need to keep dodging him and getting in the occasional hit on him, but we need to get Tsukino to flank around him, on the edge of our fight, then when he is focused on us baiting him, she shoves that fancy katana right up his arse.

I'm guessing he does not have or primarily employ ranged weapons because he threw a fucking table at us first, if thats the case, we should open up on him with an OMP in one hand, when it runs dry, abandon it for our revolver, once he gets in close we need to be fast, evade his blows and occasionaly hit him with the 223 or the 'hawk, all while keeping him distracted for Tsukino
>>
>>29907356
Bladed weapons are in general worse against armor than your tomahawk would be. Tsukino's katana is a gift from her father though, so it's much better than what you, as the MC, would've started out with had you chosen a sword as your melee weapon.

All that said, however, The Tall Guy's exosuit, along with the rest of him, is on par with the Senior Partners, think Darius and Valkyrie, so Tsukino's sword isn't about to one shot him
>>
>>29907312
Lets have Tsukino loop around, and try to go for his legs or joints from behind. She seems more agile than us.
Meanwhile, we charge head on, since I bet we're sturdier. Go for the shoulders or hips, generally try to cripple him.

>>29907320
Being a namefag kind of goes against the spirit of 4chan.
>>
>>29907413
nah, he does have ranged, they're just powered down. If we go ranged, he goes ranged.

>>29907312
>give him a show
>start juggling
>Tsukino goes behind him while he goes "huh?"
>actually start plan
>>
Rolled 2, 10, 5 = 17

>>29907413
Sounds like a plan.

>>29907312

We could always lure him into an airlock and shoot him into space if things get ugly.
>>
>>29907497
>nah, he does have ranged, they're just powered down. If we go ranged, he goes ranged.
I didn't read anywhere he did, so I must be blind
>>
>>29907512
I like the airlock idea as a backup plan.

I think we should be the attacker and Tsukino should distract since fallguy said here>>29907427
that our tomahawk has better AP
>>
>>29907512
pretty sure he's better equipped for spacefighting than we are.

based on >>29907427, i would use the tomahawk to disable his arms, while Tsukino goes for the legs, but that's only for melee.

>>29907544
> the ranged weaponry attached to his forearms lie dead, unpowered.
I THINK that means he can turn them on as soon as he finds cover. It's a slight handicap for him, but he's not screwed the moment we pull a gun.
>>
>>29907497
what if we cripple his guns and then go with that plan.
>>
>>29907659
Yeah, that would be a good start.

But I think if we opened with guns, so would he, so lets give him a show, start the fight with the pretense of melee, get in close, fuck up his guns, then we bait him and slowly wear him down between us and Tsukino
>>
Alright, so I'm seeing a flanking maneuver with Tsukino, where you draw his attention with gunfire. If he charges at you or does anything else, you engage him at close quarters, with an emphasis on avoiding his blows. Try to damage his arms.

I assume Tsukino will try to slash at his less protected joints from behind.

Action Sequence:
>Stay in place while Tsukino attempts to flank
>Draw attention with gunfire x3
>Once you empty your mag/chamber or anything else develops that makes ranged no longer a viable action, move to engage
>Dodge attacks x3
>Try to hit forearms

That'll be...

“Tsukino,” you mutter over the channel, “I’ll draw his attention. you flank and engage at close range once there’s an opening.”

“Yes, right away.”

As Tsukino slips away to the left, you holster your Model 223 and take a few steps forward. You bring the OMP up to firing position.

“Aww, c’mon now,” complains the giant in the exo-suit, “shoulda figured yah bald-heads wouldn’t play fair.”

You ignore his complaints and open fire. Rounds spew forth from the OMP, all striking home on his suit’s chest plate. They bounce off of the armor, deflected around the room. A few shots whizz by your head, and one blows out a lighting fixture. The room flickers between twilight and midday. The giant just laughs. Swearing, you throw the OMP to the ground and draw your Model 223 once more, taking potshots at his immobile form.

The giant’s laughter cuts for a moment as he grips an unarmored section of his torso. You smirk, satisfied by this first success. “Bloodfire! Dat’s what I get for playin’ nice wit’ bald heads…”

The giant’s voice fades as he brings an arm up, pointing at you. You don’t realize he’s fired until your brain registers the wave of heat. Touching your side in shock, you're pleasantly surprised to confirm that the right half of your torso is still intact. Looking over your shoulder, you stare at the wall of the base. The metal is glowing white hot, almost blinding to view. Turning your attention back to the giant, you see him lower his arm, chuckling.

“Now mon, yah gonna box me, or am I gonna have to shot yah wit’ my plasma?”

Damn. There goes your hope of ranged engagement. Gritting your teeth, you lower yourself into a sprint, charging straight at the giant. He roars with mirth once more and begins to run towards you as well. “Found yah mojo!?”

You might have a tomahawk, but this guy is a goddamn giant. You’re in his range well before he’s in yours. He greets you with a massive metal fist, fast despite it’s size. Part of your brain realizes you can’t change direction fast enough to avoid it, and you allow yourself to fall to the ground, sliding on your chest plate. The giant’s fist whooshes over your head.

You roll away and to the left, narrowly evading skull crushing stomps. Shooting to your feet, you execute a wild downward strike with your tomahawk. You get very lucky, striking the unarmored area on the inside of his elbow. The giant grunts in pain as the seismic amplifier activates, a wave of pure concussive energy shattering every bone in his right arm.

At least, that’s what you thought would have happened. Instead the grunt twists and warps, changing into raucous laughter. The giant flexes, trapping your tomahawk between his forearm and bicep. You try to yank to tomahawk free. A mistake.

The giant seizes your chest with a single massive hand, hoisting you into the air. A flick of his wrist and you are flying backwards.

Soaring.

Heh.

Just like the table.

You smack into the opposite wall. An ominous crunch. It would have worried you, were you not too busy vomiting into your helmet.

As you slide to the ground, you see Tsukino leap backwards from a backhanded sweep. So close.
>>
>>29908610

>>

Tsukino flips backwards, evading the wild back arm sweep. The move wasn’t anything close to a proper attack, but considering what that Ogre just did to Kostov-san, she doesn’t doubt the effect it would have on her.

The Ogre stomps in place as he turns to face Tsukino, insane peals of laughter filling the mess hall. “One sent to Zion!”

The Giant slams his fist into his other hand.

“Not long till he’s got a dawta to keep company.”

>You are in control of Tsukino!

Afterward, we could retrieve the bomb inside Ivan's pack and try to plant it on the back of that fucker then detonate it.

A terrible idea I know.
>>
>>29908718
No, it's meant STRUCTURAL damage. Shit would end us.
>>
>>29908662
Kostov-san has a lot of grit, good man.

Try to keep to the Giant's right side, Kostov-san landed a solid blow there, it may not have done too much to such a foe, but it may slow him down just enough to give us an advantage.

Aim for the inside of his knee and any unarmored sections of his legs, try to slow him down enough to go for more vital areas. Learn what his range is and dance in and out of it, never stay close to him for too long. Also aim for the wound Kostov-san opened up on his right arm if we have a chance, we may be able to deepen it.
>>
>>29908750
It's a shaped charge. Briefing from last thread said that as long as we weren't within 10 meters of its detonation, the only thing that'd hit armor would probably be shrapnel - and we're wearing armor for that.
>>
>>29908718
Actually, speaking of the bomb, wasn't that on Ivan's back?
Didn't we just hit the wall with enough force to crack it, back-first?

>>

Wait. The suit is plugged into him, right? Think we could cut the connection?

Indeed, let me completely make some stuff up check my notes

The room is about 25 meters long, and perhaps 10-15 meters wide.

The Bomb is meant for mining operations to break through iron walls of meteorites and the like. It'll certainly do a number of the Giant/Ogre, but it'll be very difficult to have it detonate correctly, since it has a built in delay of about ninety seconds. So people can get clear of the blast.

>>29908774
Ivan struck the wall with his upper back and shoulders mostly, so the bomb was spared the brunt of the blow.

Gonna compile your votes into a plan of attack in a few minutes
>>
>>29908931
>>29908904

Our 223 doesn't really count as anything near small arms fire though.

If it can take a hit from that then there wouldn't have been any reason for HR to warn us about getting shot.
>>
>>29908931
>Also, I very much doubt we can take out his giant plasma gun.
We may not be able to, but it can be something Tsukino aims for, if we feint for his joints and he's protecting them he may not have a chance to protect his plasma-fucker-2000 at the same time.
Of course then it's a matter of whether or not we should go for the gun with the katana, or the silenced pistol... which are kinda light weapons.
>>
>>29908931

You know if we miss the shot with our revolver he's going to throw the bomb at us or Tsukino, right?

Also, if we're really going ahead with that we need to warn Tsukino is GTFO of the way.
>>
>>29909127
we need to set it up facing the way he would encounter it, Tsukino can run past and bait him into it and get clear before we fire, but yea, it would be a very risky plan to pull off
>>
Alright! So, I'm seeing a lot of really good, although not necessarily compatible plans here. Let me see what I can do here.

Tsukino will attempt to engage the Ogre (Now retconned to 'Oni' don't know why I didn't start calling him that in the first place), staying on his right, where his arm is injured.

Once she has his attention, she will retreat from the Oni, drawing him out of the mess hall. Then she will attempt to stealth away from him and retrieve the bomb.

She will then rig it to detonate, drag Kostov-san clear, and attempt to finish off the Oni with the explosion.

>Engage Oni x3 rolls
>draw him back to corridors
>Attempt to lose him by escaping into the vents or something else
>Sneak back to mess hall
>Plant bomb and rig it to explode
>Drag Kostov-san clear
>Attempt to blow the Oni the fuck up

>but I’m not sure how well they handle getting shot
Assuming Kilburne follows ANY sort of SANE operating procedures(they probably don't, which is why it had a hazard pay), and since it's built with a 90 second delay, there SHOULD be failsafes in place. Whether that means that getting it shot will just render the bomb useless or trigger the 90 second delay, who knows?

>time to start sperging about bombs
bombs have a main combustible element, and an ignition device. For gunpowder and older bombs, any sort of fire can act as an ignition, but for newer, more powerful explosives, it's different. Their ignition device is usually a really tiny bomb on its own, built to ONLY go off when properly switched. You could shoot the sorta inert explosives, and nothing would happen. If you happened to hit the ignition device, there's still a good chance that it won't go off, or the bullet will push it out of contact with the explosives.

that being said, more failsafes are usually(read: not right now) in place incase of really bad accidents, which means that shooting it to make it blow up is still possible.

>>29909044

>>
>>29909796
fine then, I suppose you also have an arguement for the shaped charge somehow still being able to direct the explosion even after getting shot, so I'll drop it.

s shaped charge is not magically rendered into an omni-directional bomb by simple damage, sure you can fuck it up, make it leak the blast and fuck up the jet of energy or you could outright just make it fizzle and die without going boom

there are many many ways to construct a shaped charge, and all of them would be affected differently to being shot in different places and different ways

the construction to ensure a shaped charge is contained and directed effectively is not magically erased from existence when you hit it with kinetic energy, the results are anything but concrete

Tsukino watches numbly as the Oni yanks Kostov-san’s tomahawk out from his arm, tossing it to the ground. Bright red bloods drips from the black head of the axe. Her eyes widen with horror as steam rises from the wound. A tell tale sign of hyper-fast regenerative factors. She swallows, before steeling herself. Father would not approve of such cowardice.

Tsukino circles around the Oni until her back is to the corridor she and Kostov-san arrived from. Even if he does have hyper-accelerated healing, he will not have fully recovered from that blow. Stick to his right. Tsukino takes a few steps back. The Oni takes a few more forward.

She lashes out with her katana, the blade glowing in the half light. It drags against the Oni’s forearm protectors. Orange sparks contrast with neon blue lights.

The Oni chuckles and lashes out. Too slow. Her father trained Tsukino for many long hours until she could reliably dodge his Iaijutsu. Well, maybe not dodge… Regardless, the Oni’s fist moves as though through water. Slow and exaggerated. She evades the blows with ease, leading him back to the corridor.

“Bludclot, woman! Stay still!”

Deciding the Oni is sufficently incensed against her, Tsukino truns tail and runs down the hallway. Loud clunking footsteps vindicate her plan. Sprinting as softly as possible, she returns to the hallway where she met Kostov-san, and leaps into the open vent.

She slides the cover in place just in time. The Oni storms past her, cursing. Moving quickly, she lowers herself back down out of the ventilation shaft and sprints back to the mess hall and her downed comrade, taking care to close the airlock doors behind her as she runs. Tsukino does not think that will stop the Oni. But it might slow him down. A little. Just a little.

Tsukino stumbles into the mess hall, eyes focused on the slumped form of Kostov-san. Only, there is no Kostov-san slumped against the opposite wall.

There is a merc standing in his place. He wears all of Kostov-san’s armor, except for the helmet. That lies on the floor, a few meters away.

However, this cannot be Kostov-san.

Kostov-san would never bear such an expression.

We learned that going for the joints was a bad idea, so instead let's do a pincer attack with Tsukino aiming for more critical points with the axe, like the head. And the face. And the face.

He'll want to focus on defending himself from us, again, but our rush permits tsukino to make a more precise strike.

>>
>>29910162
Our goal in this fight is to be big, scary, and distracting. Try not to get hit too, get inside his guard, duck and weave his attacks. We're smashing into him with an axe, don't get hit, if we can plant our tomahawk in his face so much the better. If we see a good opportunity to punch him or kick him take it, every part of our body is a weapon. If he grabs us and lifts us up headbutt him. Also, the balls, if we can axe him in the balls go for it, it might actually hurt him.

While we're grabbing attention and applying brute force to the Oni Tsukino can aim for vulnerable areas and takes advantage of his focus being on the very angry Russian trying to plant an axe in his testicles and face.
>>
>>29910162
Are there any heavy objects? Or flammable objects? Or any heavy flammable objects? Because we should throw stuff at the Oni when we see him, heavy stuff, sharp stuff, burning stuff, whatever combination of these we can manage.

Except our tomahawk, don't throw that, we're going to chop his face apart with it.

You walk forward. Footsteps echo in the cavernous room. Tsukino side steps out of your way, eyes wide. Leaning over, you retrieve your tomahawk. You shift your grip on the handle, squeezing the weapon compulsively.

You can hear him coming. Tsukino can too. Distant clanging as he rips apart airlocks. You see her flinch out of the corner of your eye as she removes the Det Core. You focus on the sealed doors. Tsukino knows what she must do.

Clanging, louder than ever. He is at the final airlock. Tsukino starts. You smile.

The metal of the doors bulges out. Shaped like a fist. Two more strikes and the gap is wide enough. The Giant’s fingers are in between the two slabs of steel. They push. Steel buckles. Psychotic laughter fills the room.

Your smile only widens.

The Giant strides forward. You do the same. He is sprinting now. So are you. His howls of laughter are at a fever pitch. But you hear nothing. The Giant moves as if in slow motion, fist dragging through the air.

You leap above it.

The Giant’s helmet tilts up to look at you. You wink as you stomp down with both feet. Right onto the healing wound.

The Giant screams his anguish as you roll away. Still smiling.

You blitz forward, tackling the Giant’s side as you bring the tomahawk to bear once more. The seismic amplifier thrums as it triggers again and again.

You slip off of the Giant, rolling your left shoulder to do so. The Giant’s hands only grasp air.
You turn around to face him, just in time to see his fist closing. You don’t dodge it. You roll with the blow, letting it knock you back a few feet.

“Bloodfire an’ Bloodclot an’ to Satan’s ass wit’ yah!”

You laugh. The first time you’ve made a sound since rising to your feet.

The Giant falls silent as you walk forward. A few punches. Easily dodged. You stand before him, and he stares down at you, chest wide open. You place a foot on his sternum and kick.

The Giant crashes backwards and skids into a different corridor than the one Tsukino lead him down. As the airlock doors seal shut you start to collapse to the ground, spent. Arms catch you. They are not Tsukino’s arms. Clayton Burnside drags you back from the airlock door, your feet scraping the ground all the way back to the opposite side of the mess hall.

A muffled rumble.

“Alright, mate. Don’t you fuckin’ give out on us, we still need ya.”

Your face relaxes into a more human smile.

“C’mon now. Cyrus and I might’ve figured out a new way to skin this wallaby.”

I think you can guess which side of the Brutal/Finesse axis Ivan falls on.

“Huh. Huhuhuhahaha!” You howl with laughter, a mixture of shock and relief surging within your chest. Clayton gives your shoulder a friendly shake. “Alrgiht mate, let it out.”

You do, roaring with laughter before breaking down into a fit of coughing. You inhale deeply, throat rasping. “Better be something explosive, otherwise I’m going back there and kicking his shit in.”

Cy slips your helmet back on, vomit mostly gone. Clayton’s face appears in your HUD. He rolls his eyes. “Think Ms. Tsukino took care of that one for us. Didn’t you notice what was clamped to his back when you kicked him through the airlock?”

You shake your head slowly. Tsukino opens a comm channel with you. “I placed your Det Core on his armor when you were tackling him, Kostov-semp...san. That was the rumbling.”

“Oh. That still counts as mine, right?”

Clayton and Cy both roar with laughter at the question. “Mate, you went toe to toe with the bloody Dreads. Ain’t no one about to stop you from claiming it as your kill.”

As you cough into your helmet, Clayton continues, “No, I was talking about a different wallaby. This base is still loaded to the gills with LLS personnel. Too many to kill. But I managed to find something I think you can work with, Ivan.”

Clayton and Cy lift you to your feet. Cy comms in on the squad channel. “Think they can all fit on one HOEV, Tsukino?”

“...Perhaps…”

“Well then! You go off with Cy and bring the civvies back here, and Ivan and I will go off the resolve the life support issue.”

“The fuck sorta rookie you take me for mate? You implying this my first drop? I’ll fucking glass ya, cunt.”

“Yeah. Always was a bit of a boogieman. That’s some crazy luck you’ve got rookie. No one’s gonna believe you fragged Dreads.”

You sigh, “Yeah, probably.”

“At least no one will, had I not gotten the entire thing on the security cams!”

“Holy shit! Seriously?”

Clayton roars with laughter. “Don’t get too down about missing out on his equipment rookie. If what Cy told me is true, Valkyrie’ll more than make it up to you.”

“Hahaha… I don’t think I can survive that.”

“Hey,” responds Clayton as he fiddles around with the pad of a massive airlock door, “Better to die happy, right?”

The airlock doors open to the moon base’s life support. Clayton helps you hobble up to the arcane machinery. Oxygen cyclers, heating systems, the whole nine yards. You look around, a plethora of options at your finger tips. “I’m thinking, if you do this correctly, there’ll definitely be enough time to evac all the civvies,” mutters Clayton from behind you. “No pressure though mate!”

You lean on the life support machinery and begin to fiddle around with the manual controls, modulating the pressure, oxygen cyclers, everything. After ten minutes of concentrated effort you stand away from your handiwork. Clayton stands up beside you, lending a shoulder. “Finally done?”

“Yeah… set up something real nice too. I was going to just turn of the oxygen cyclers and open up a few key airlocks, but I’ve got something much better set up. Messed around with the hydrogen plant waste vents and the oxygen cyclers and reserve tanks. In about two hours, the atmosphere here will have an unbreathable percentage of helium.”

“That’s... a thing you can do too.”

You grunt. “Better than straight asphyxiation honestly.”

“I’ll… I’ll take your word for it.”

“Besides,” you respond as you shoot out the control panels, “They’ve got ships too right? They can bail whenever they want. Didn’t turn off the atmospheric alarms.”

“Will we have enough time, Burnside-sempai?”

“Sure,” smiles Clayton. “Place’ll be survivable for another two hours according to the techie. Tsukino, you and Ivan take the first HOEV out. Cy and I will go on the second.”

It's great that you think that way, but i think I misspoke. It's holograms, holographic is when they're all shiny and thus worth more to collectors.

Can we get some custom holographic holograms then?

we can have all three kinds, the razor sharp ones for combat, the hologram ones for all the time, in combat and out of it, and the holographic ones can be the trophy we hang high enough on our wall so that we don't smash it when Valerie visits next

You'll need some more gene mods for that. They are quite expensive, although I haven't yet drawn up the price sheet for them.

>>29913756
The roll breakdown isn't too exciting, just a bunch of DC checks at about 20+.

The +5 bonus from Grit Mode did you a lot of favors.

I am a little sad he got knocked off, but since I just started this thread with a post about how you or your friends might die, I think it would be hypocritical for me to bring Dreads back... once I nut up and make the rolls that is. Also, like I said, I've been dying to use that one song I posted in a fight scene, so in some ways it was worth it to me.

>>29913702
Tech skills do in fact work like that already, although I don't explicitly state it. Ivan will by default seek weaknesses in mechanized enemies' armor.

>>29913893
I'm replying to you, but I know more people are interested in the Dreadlock situation.

All I can say is wait and see what Cy brings back for you.

You, I like you.

Alright thanks for the response. I really love your writing btw and who knows, maybe Dreads will make the checks to survive, in which case you get the best of both worlds.

B-but I like Elda.

How can I waifu Elda when we're having casual pain-sex with the Valkyrie?
>>
>>29914237
We should try getting on our next mission with Elda, or hang out with her some more. I like the Female Rookies a lot. Just about all of them are Bros though.
>>
>>29914237
to be fair, Valkyrie kind of scares me. Still, I don't think this quest was about relationships, so if you wanted that, it would probably be a low-key, ask her out every couple of missions kind of deal.
>>
>>29914336
Tsukino accidently calling us sempai was cute

and Elda gets better pay rates for anyone who drops with her because of her connections, which is good

>>29914237
I'd rather we just stick to casual sex, regardless of who it is with

>>
>>29914237
I think Elda understands that if Valkyrie wants to have pain-sex with someone, she's going to have pain-sex with that someone. That said, due to the high turnover rate I wouldn't get my hopes up for a serious waifs in this quest. Maybe a consistent lay between missions, but fidelity and long term commitment probably aren't in the cards.
>>
God damn it Fall Guy, no twitter update man? I missed the whole deal!

Aw well. reading I go, I guess
>>
>>29914237
Ah yes, lewdness and other such naughtiness.

It's the year 22XX. I can think of no reason why casual sex, especially among a bunch of super powered adrenaline junkie mega-mercs, would be considered note worthy.

Essentially nobody thinks anything of getting bonezoned, especially by the Valkyrie.

Obviously, do not cheat on someone if/when you are in a committed relationship, but there isn't really a route lock in DAQ. This ins't meant to be a romance quest. There may be romantic elements in the future at some point, but it will never be a major point in DAQ. I want to write female characters, not necessarily waifus.

As for my official stance on FtBs and lewdness. After trying my hand at writing an FtB, I don't think another one in the future is out of the question. Don't expect them after every mission, however. DAQ is mostly meant to be humor and action. FtBs will occur when I consider them appropriate for the narrative. Or I get bored and want to stir shit in a relatively harmless way.
>>
>>29914517
I was implying none of those things and apologize if my comment came off as a complaint.

While I do admit to liking Elda better than most other characters, I don't particularly care who we fuck and why/how often.

So, yeah. Don't read into my comment too much.

You're doing fine, keep up the good work.

Oh don't worry, I'm not mad or anything anon. This was more an official statement on that collection of sticky issues, and I used your comment as a springboard.

All that was directed at you in particular is the assurance that the FtB with Valkyrie does not necessarily mean that Elda is no longer an option as a romance-able character or whatever you want to call it.

I'm terribly sorry if I came off a bit harsh, I just wanted to be clear to everyone with an interest in the issue about my stances on it. The waifu comment in particular was a general statement, and certainly not directed at you especially.

Smutanon here, uh yeah I just caught up, missed the thread. My twitter didn't go off for some reason.

anyway, Don't mean to usurp your FTB stuff either, just like adding up content for a quest I love.
This one is awesome, and the fact that you added a grit mode only makes it better.

I wouldn't even be mad if Dreads made it.

Anyway, great thread today, from what I saw. Thanks for running Fall Guy!

Don't worry about it. If it's on pastebin, I don't mind in the slightest.

>>29915859 here, just finished reading it, was hot

I would not be averse to this becoming something of a series of pastebins chronicling Ivans adventures with Valkyrie, dealing with her shenanigans after each mission or when she sees the footage of our escapades
>>
>>29916243
Heh.
Well, I gotta imagine that Grit scene got us SOME points on her side right?

And I have a neat little image for how that would be a handy ability...

Nah but it's a fun thought
>>
>>29916302
oh don't you tease like that
>>
>>29916243
Glad to hear, and I wouldn't be terribly opposed to that...I'll be following the quest closely, and if I get me some inspiration, I'll see if I can't write one out.

>>29916302
Ha, that would be awesome. I'm not 100% on how Grit even works yet tho, so want to hear a little more about it.

Unless it's just badass mode with no real explanation.
Because, well. That would make for a really hilarious scene in my head.
