You have always wanted to be an emperor. That ambition has burned dimly in the past, tempered by reality. Now the opportunity to realise your ambition has arrived and you are determined not to let it slip. Now is the time to build your empire and become an emperor.

Last Thread: You are the knight, Talon York, and you are the man who will be an emperor. Last thread you begun a stealth mission to assassinate Robert Tabeth and place his son in charge of his house. Once that is complete, you will then need to take Vitria by force.

1. Next thread will be 5pm EST, Feb 7th.
2. FTBs aren’t done. If a Lynn social scene comes up (which is unlikely this thread) I’ll post a couple of minor surprises that would otherwise be a surprise in her scene.
3. This session and the next one or two will be action and planning heavy, or at least that’s how I’m planning it.

NB: The lorebin is pretty large and I’m not expecting everybody to read it all. I’m still up for answering questions ITT so as not to alienate players and I’ll try to make things understandable contextually.

Rolls are d20 and the best of the first three posters. Please quote the post you are voting for or rolling against.

Would it be difficult to retool the dumb-waiter so it's constantly sending, instead of you push the button and the items go?
>>
>>29960496

a mix of 2 and 4.

assault the room, but put the explosive though so that it either distracts him from our assault, or our assault distracts him from the bomb...
>>
>>29960546
Pretty trivial for Maloric.
>>
>>29960571
isn't that 1 and 4?
Since two has mal, gnome, and sarah busy, while we, catalyn, sala and udine try to protect them.
>>
>2.

“We’re going with Gnome’s plan. Sarah and Mal, once we get there I need the two of you to try to rip those wards open so Gnome can take care of Tabeth. The rest of us will hold off the guards,” you say, before turning to Harold. “This won’t take too long, I think. Be ready to follow Aaron’s orders and seize the house once we take care of Robert. I don’t want to fight the guards any longer than necessary – every man we kill or injure is one less we have to help defeat Viktor Oaln.”

With that, you step out of the room and run into a mass of guards in short order. It’s going to be bloody battles all the way down, you feel.

If that's trivial for Maloric, why don't we do that and then have either Undine flood the room, Sala send constant flames through, or gnome fill it with sand or debris? And if he can mess with the dumb-waiter can he expand it's threshold to teleport a person through?

If he's being scorched alive, do you think he'll have time to turn it off? That's why I asked if maloric could make it constantly send, hopefully we'd kill him before he even had the chance
>>
>>29960737
He just wouldn't turn it on is what hes saying.
>>
>>29960678
I think I misunderstood what you meant by constantly send. It's more that it's teleporting automatically every few seconds (any quicker and it will simply break) - e.g. the button automatically remains depressed. He can't easily modify it otherwise without spending a lot of time. Also, teleporting manifested matter would dissipate said matter as the caster's connection to it would break the instant it teleports (causing it to dissipate) meaning the amount the elementals can teleport each time isn't huge as they'd need to attempt to properly create it rather than manifest it.
>>
>>29960790
I was under the impression it was already on, and he could just turn it off if he wanted to. Aspirational didn't say anywhere that he had to press a button to receive the items.

Yes, we push the button, it goes to the recipient device. It's a moot point now anyways.

>Target met

You land on the guards at the bottom of the stairs with a crunch and sweep your greatsword around you and through them. Steel buckles against your might and blood sprays across the stonework and other guards. Caitlyn comes down next you and crashes through a handful of the remaining guards. Some bright magical lances pierce those fleeing and you glance back up to see Sarah pointing towards them.

The guards are thinning out now, presumably because they’re regrouping. You’re right above the safe room now and it’s time to initiate the plan. Maloric and Sarah take up positions around a quickly drawn ritual circle with Gnome in the centre. You split the defensive group into two and then you…

I just realised I forgot the numbers on the last post. Derp.

>3. Fight alongside Lynn.

You take a position alongside Lynn on the south side of the corridor. Undine and Sala take up a ranged/defender position on the other side. You and Lynn don’t have anything quite like that and instead will need to rely on excellent tandem fighting to best the oncoming horde of guards, if the clatter of boots you hear is any indication.

A dozen elite guards suddenly round the corner, wearing magical plate and carrying halberds. These must be Tabeth’s private guard. The most of these men you can injure but no kill, the easier things will be later.

Sorcery surges through the hallway. You can feel the constant thrum of magical energy being used and abused by your companions and the foe alike. The hall is almost uncomfortably hot with all the fire that Sala is throwing around and you do your best to ignore the sweat building underneath your clothing. At the very least, it’s only sweat from the heat not exertion that worries you right now.

The ‘elite’ guards of Tabeth rely far too heavily on the runes on their armour, you think as a halberd sails past you. You slam your pommel underneath his guard and into his chin and hear a snap as he goes down, unconscious. You then slip past him and deflect the next halberd before smashing your shield into the next opponent several times until he falls.

Light flickers to your side and you spin, aware that you’re about to take a nasty blow to your torso. A guard surges with energy, runes flickering as he tries to overwhelm your defences. Then Lynn catches him in the side with her shield-charge and he crashes into several of his comrades. You give her a gesture of thanks before glancing back at your mages and Gnome to see how they’re doing.

>Higher target met

Sorcery visibly crackles in the air around Maloric and Sarah, so great is the amount of energy they’re controlling. You pause for a second, struck dumb. You very air appears to be on fire around them, lightning arcing openly and space warps. Something tells you that if they don’t use that energy properly very soon things are about to get ugly. You’re almost hesitant to call out a warning and let them know of the danger. Then you feel it.

Gnome has always summoned her power more slowly and smoothly than her sisters. You’d figured that was because it was simply how she did it but as sense her power manifesting you see that it’s a very intentional technique. Even as Maloric and Sarah summon so much power externally, using the ritual circle to focus the energy around them, Gnome summons an amount of energy nearly their equal but keeps it separate. If this had been any of the other two elementals, the two gatherings of energy would have sparked an explosion or simply broken the ritual circle. Instead two frightening powers build in tandem and will surely shatter anything they’re used on.

Or sunder, you think. As Maloric suddenly snaps the ritual circle with a shift of his leg over the sand that makes it up, the entire tower shakes. It feels as though the world itself is ending for a brief second as the hallway seems to flicker out of existence and you feel nothing below you. Then a mighty crunch sounds below you and the tower suddenly stops shaking. The guards around you stand, weapons slack, uncertain of what just happened. You know, though, that the entire space below you, that had previously held a highly warded room, had just been turned into a solid block of rock and just as quickly return to normal. There was almost certainly nothing left alive in there.

>>29961595
Robert Tabeth is dead, that you are certain of. And now you simply need to work with Aaron Tabeth and Master Harold of the Black Stone knights to seize House Tabeth and Vitria itself before House Oaln mounts a counterattack.

>That’s a thread, folks. Guess I didn’t need the new thread after all.

This turned out considerably differently to what I expected. I intended Tabeth to be a puzzle house, with the expectation that if you guys did the assassination mission you would go after Oaln first and would want a change of pace. Instead I think it just slowed things down a bit, especially as I had to merge the general infiltration of Vitria with it.

I’ll be around for about 15-20 minutes if you have any questions.

Next thread is 5pm EST, Feb 7th and it should be a bit longer and better. The hardest part of the running always seems to be the quiet period between 11pm and 1am when some players go to sleep and new ones join in. Time zones are funny things.
>>
>>29961610
updates on the FTB, and the masterpastebin?
>>
>>29961610
Holy tits man, we blended him. That was fucking awesome, Aspirational. Lucky rolls really saved us in the end, honestly I didn't think it was going to work at all.

Thanks for being a champ and running on Saturday, way easier for me to follow heh.
So we defied your expectations again, huh? Always glad to hear I reckon. I hope killing the other lords proves way less...uh...well, relying on luck, I guess. If we had crit failed either of those rolls, I shudder to think.

>Next thread Friday
Ahhhhh so far away.
Worth the wait, though I suppose.

>Quiet period
Well, I think some of the anons got nervous about things. I know I sure did.
>>
>>29961610
Holy damn, that ending was awesome. Thanks for the thread.

Don't take this the wrong way but, I like that you make miscalculations like that it shows that you are trying new things and how much thought you put into all of this.
>>
>>29961610
Thanks for running man. Look forward to next thread where I assume we crunch the other Lord's skulls.

So much for stealth, huh?
We're really not a stealthy man. I don't see why we keep trying.

As a side note, I very much look forward to the scenes with Lynn and Gnome...Mostly Gnome. Think we'll see those within the week, if you're not too busy, bro?
>>
>>29961651
Dunno when the FTBs will be done. It can be a real pain to write after work, especially as I'm doing 11-12 hours days right now, including travel. My intention is to get the Lynn one done first, as there's a couple of extras in that one. Gnome is just pure titilation.

I'll probably put up updated bins shortly before the next thread.

>>29961675
>quiet period
It's a pretty regular thing, I'm finding. Which means I either have a habit of putting difficult decisions in that time or it's just a transition of players.

Also, the day I run on depends on what I'm doing. Friday usually lets me run all day as I have places to be on Saturdays.

>>29961610
>Tabeth was a puzzle house
So...
Did uh.
Did we solve the puzzle?
Comon, everyone knows the answer to a jigsaw puzzle is to burn the pieces and throw them out the window right?

But seriously, what was the 'right' answer?
>>
>>29961703
>So much for stealth, huh?
We did pretty well in stealth.
We are in the noble quarters.
1.We might have alerted the bears.
2.might have half the house on alert, but the other two houses are preparing to attack so they will just assume the other attacked first.
>>
>>29961717

>>29961774
>Immediately fell into the crotch plate of the local guards
Wrong, we are still in his area, and all they said was intruders and not who.
So at worst they know there are intruders at best they think one of the others started their attack early, they still don't know we are there.
>>
>>29961724
The main solutions I had in mind for dealing with Robert Tabeth were:
1. Demand an audience and try to get yourself in with an illusion while pretending to be Sarah.
2. Try to astral arrow the door.
3. Dump a bunch of junk through the dumb waiter, quickly followed with an explosive (assuming Tabeth goes to investigate it).
4. Visit the Black Stone knights beforehand and get the Grandmaster to help you.
5. Incite rebellion once you saw people wearing your emblem and don't even bother with Robert Tabeth - just let him rot and put Aaron in charge by popular accord.

The Gnome one I did on the fly. I also abandoned and added some elements due to this likely being the only house you'll stealth.
>>
>>29961815
Huh.

>1
I feel dumb not thinking to illusion ourselves

>2
...but wouldn't we have needed a 20? And why would an arrow work where a big hulking sword wouldn't?

I wanted to go see the Black Stone guys. But for some reason we wanted to check out the prison first...still don't get that one.

>5
Heh. If only that nat 20 had been for a speech, huh?
>>
>>29961859
You can astral arrow on a 17 or 18 (I can't remember off the top of my head). It's the same as previous attempts to do archery with a double-DC.

Also, because it came up a bit earlier, here's a relative listing of the girls' heights and busts.

Height:
Lynn < Sarah < Sala < Undine < Gnome

Bust:
Sala < Lynn < Sarah = Undine < Gnome
>>
>>29961859
>..but wouldn't we have needed a 20? And why would an arrow work where a big hulking sword wouldn't?
Not really, we are starting learn how to make them, so it would be safe to say that it would only take time to do it(probrably a few rolls as well).
Also we really need to get a mystic fox, so that we can speed up our astral power training.
>>

After Vitria's dealt with you'll have the opportunity to go looking for a fox to the north (not one of the Champion ones, mind), building stuff and fighting Taour. I'm really looking forward to getting past Vitria, to be honest.

>>29961933
>Why wasn't I told about this?!
It was mentioned at Fort Locke when you attempted to do it against the knights lining up against he walls trying to attack Moss.

Anyway, I need to go now. If there's any more questions in the thread and it's still alive in a few hours when I get back, I'll probably answer them then.

Once you get a city and get past the immediate problems of fighting a two front war opportunities are going to really open up. We're really only scratching the surface of what I'm hoping will happen over the course of the quest.
