The village hedge mage is dead.

It's not such a big loss. The apothecary had been taking his customers for years now and the upstart wizard who just moved into town took what little business he had left.

All that is left is divvying up the property of a sad, lonely old man. His herbs and reagents have already been gobbled up by his competitors, and all that remains is his empty hovel.

You are just a poor, young clerk for the town's mayor. This doesn't even fit your duties, but the city wishes to condemn the building and has given you the task of checking the place one last time.

It was supposed to be busy work. It was supposed to be mundane.

But no one counted on you finding something. No one counted on you squirreling it away and waiting till you were back home in your tiny room above the tavern stables to look at it.

And well, there it is. A simple book hidden under the floorboards.

Dare you open it?
>>
No. This was plainly hidden for a reason, and it would be foolish to get involved.

For a moment, you can only stare at the tome. This is beyond you. You should burn it. Hide it away again.

But...

You may be poor, and you may have few prospects, but you do have knowledge. Knowledge enough to know what the title of this book implies. And you know what?

Why not?

You're likely to die a clerk to this trading post of a village. You'll only live on scraping a meager existence on what few coins can be spared from the town coffers. Why not decide, for once in your life, to take the dangerous path?

You open the book, and you feel an unearthly rush of air in the room. Water all around you begins to tremble, and the candle burns brighter.

And it is what you thought to be.

Spells. Incantations. Potions.

All revolving around the magic of women.

Many are beyond your understanding, but the first few pages are simple enough.

There's a brew that you can make. Just a perfume that is supposedly heavenly to a female.

There's a small cantrip as well. You do not know what it means by summoning, but it says that it is one of the spells that a beginner may attempt.

And of course there are other, more complicated works that you may have to concentrate to understand.

It is still early in the night, and you only lit your candle scant minutes ago. Time enough to try something, at least...

You get the feeling that this book is actually reading you more than the other way around.

You shake away that disturbing thought and concentrate on the single page in front of you.

It's more or less what you would expect from a magic spell. There are diagrams and descriptions of hand waving. Gibberish words that promise to alter the word around you at a single breath. You try to see if perhaps you are missing some key element, but if this is all you have to do...

You feel silly at first, twiddling your fingers around and mumbling breathily, but the sudden swirl of air and shimmering of the candle tell you otherwise. You feel the thoughts burning in your mind, as if the spell is making itself known above all else. But heartbeats come and go, and nothing seems to be happening.

No succubus coming for your soul, no women made of clay coming from the ground. Nothing. Maybe you did something wrong? Maybe you...

"Hello? You in there, tenant?"

... hear a knocking on your door?! It's the voice of Giselle, the inkeeper's daughter.

Was this from the spell? Should you let her in? Send her away? You think of what to do while she knocks again.

"Hello?"

You scramble to your feet, only to sit back down.

There is another rap on the door, and you find it strange to see Giselle be so persistent. You've barely spoken three sentences the entire time you've roomed here, and now she seems like she won't leave you be.

Pushing the book underneath a few sheaves of paper, you brace yourself for whatever will happen next.

You get up and open the door a crack, just enough to see Giselle's... worried?... face.

"Yes? What is it, Giselle?"

A look of relief washes over Giselle's face as she sees you, but it quickly changes to confusion again.

"What... yes... I..."

She pauses, and you can see her gathering her thoughts.

"... I think I just wanted to see how you were doing. How are you settling in here?" she says lamely.

You can see her still struggling with her thoughts, but your own are racing at a breakneck speed.

It worked!

It really, really worked!

But now you're left with what's here. Giselle doesn't seem to be going anywhere, but this is a peculiar situation and you don't know how long it will last.

"It's as it is usually, thank you for asking. Things at work are occupying my time right now."

Giselle smiles and nods, though she still seems like she's waiting for something. You feel the weight of the silence and clear your throat.

"Ahm... so... what are they serving in the main room tonight?" You ask. It seems to shake Giselle out of her reverie and she smiles back.

"Oh! One of the hunters gave father a good deal on a deer he caught yesterday. We still have that and stew for it." Giselle added helpfully, and you nod.

Again the silence settles and the both of you look to each other uncomfortably, though Giselle with an air of expectation.

Finally, she breaks the silence.

"Sorry. I... it's like I'm forgetting something. Did you ask me to come here? I feel as if you did, but I can't remember..." She trails off, then catches herself with a blush. "... but that just might be my mind playing tricks, you know? Too much time on my feet."

You share a small laugh with her, and she seems to relax a bit again.

Giselle looks at you for the longest time, as if she's searching for something.

"Alright. If you're sure there's nothing..." she says, and the wind seems to blow again, making her hair fan out in the breeze.

You nod, and the wind stops. Giselle shakes her head, and her eyes seem to dart around for a moment.

"Huh..." she whispers, turning and walking back towards the inn, not glancing back at all.

You watch in silence from your doorway as the young woman goes away, though the calm that you show does not reflect the storm of feelings that you barely contain.

As soon as you see her go through the door, you shut your own and let out a breath you didn't know you were holding in.

You did it. You actually did it!

Trembling, you look to your hands. The hands that cast a spell and summoned her!

The rush of power is immense, but also a sense of dread.

A rustling of paper breaks the quiet of your room.

The papers have flown away from the book, and again you see the red letters reflecting their waxy title against the candle light.

The thick candle has burned a third of the way down now.

There is still time in the night.

But what to do with it?

Again you get the feeling that you're doing the book's will more than your own. But the promise of power is so tempting now. Was this the feeling every evil wizard felt as they took their first steps to infamy?

You aren't so far gone that you don't recognize the lines being crossed.

But crossing those lines are as easy as opening the cover of a book...

The words that you can understand are disturbing in what they suggest.

Women as a source of power. Spells to control and manipulate them. To harness them.

What deviant made this book, you wonder? And what kind of deviant are you that it resonates with you so?

The potions are simple. There is no arcane language here, just incredibly rare ingredients. But everything imaginable is there. Love potions, poisons, potions to... make women into living bombs?!

You flip again to the beginning, where the cantrips were. It seems there is a progression for this. A spell afterwards notes what you can cast to the woman you summon. Something along the lines of making her think better of you, to improve the impression that she has of you. You notice that the spell afterwards says something about affecting her decisions with suggestions of your own that she takes in high consideration. But these have to be done one after another on the same woman. Giselle...

And then of course, there is the more arcane sections of the book. There seems to be a progression here... you can recognize how some words from the beginning of the book fit the scrawling of the author later on.

Of course, the candle is burning lower now, and you know you don't have much time left if you are to sleep for tomorrow's day of work.

Decisions... what to do?

A rumbling from your stomach reminds you that there are other concerns than the arcane.

The smell of the venison is inviting.

When you enter the tavern, it is fairly lively. Cheap meat and stew has brought in others from the village, and you can see that Giselle is balancing a number of plates and drinks. A pang of guilt strikes you as you wonder if you caused any trouble from summoning her away from all the bustle of the inn.

You take a seat and the innkeeper puts a meal in front of you.

You thank him and begin eating. While it is filling and a fair bit more palatable than the usual fair, you seem to be hyperaware of the females in the tavern now. Whether it's due to the book's influence or your own due to circumstance.

Giselle is there, still looking very pretty even though she seems very frazzled.

The wizard Anthena is there as well, all in black and furs and feathers. The townsfolk call her the raven bitch, and she seems like it. Her elegant demeanor seems to make it feel as if she thinks all of this is beneath her... is she staring at you? You can't tell...

Selera the apothecary is here. You think she's friends with Giselle, but you've never spoken with her before either.

There are other girls in the room as well, and you're left with your thoughts as you finish your meal.

What now?
>>
>>29980464

And fuck, there is another witch in here? that could be trouble.

Real trouble.

Let's not use our powers on her until we are sure we can kill her/fuck her into submission.
>>
>>29980862
Eat then sleep. Make sure to prop a chair against the door.
>>
>>29980976
Honestly, easiest way to deal with Anthena that I can think of is to make some sort of love potion and have Giselle put it in her food and drink.

Granted we need Giselle deep enough in our pocket to do this without question, but that's mainly a matter of time.
>>
>>29980932
Good point. Grimoire said there was a progression to the spells. Summon is technically before the enchantments but I imagine we can skip it if the girl is already there. We need to spam all the women with the "think better of you" spell. Even if he doesn't turn them all into slaves if the shit goes down later on they'll be more likely to give him the benefit of the doubt.
>>
>>29981031

The meal is heavy and you can already feel drowsy especially after all the excitement of the day.

You spare a moment of guilt for Giselle, and another moment at wondering whether Anthena was watching you, before exiting and going back to the room.

Again the book is there, and you aren't surprised to see that it is now resting on the stack of books you buried it under previously. Nothing about it surprises you much anymore.

You can feel its call, but your bed calls louder.

As an afterthought, you turn the locks on the door and prop a chair on the handle. You don't know what a chair and a deadbolt will do against someone like Anthena, but it's at least a comfort to your sensibilities.

You fall asleep as soon as your head hits the pillow, and your dreams are troubled and... something else.

Women.

All of them, tempting you, used by you.

You feel strong, powerful. Of course they lay themselves at your feet. Why not? They are nothing but playthings to you, after all.

And of course, those red, waxy words glowing against a book as black as night...

You awaken with a start, sweaty and panting. The book is now right there, next to you on your pillow, and while this worries you, it doesn't surprise you.

Dawn is just breaking, and you know you have a few hours still before work. You usually are still asleep at this time of day, and you do feel tired but...

You grumble. It's too early to think about the repercussions of black magic.

You take the book and stuff it under your pillow. You're sure that it will show up later anyway, but you feel as if it was actually giving a small protest as you roll over and get back to sleep.

No matter.

The dreams are the same.

Giselle, Anthena, Selera, Marr, Tandice...

All the girls of the village, ones that you can name and those that you only barely remember if only for their beauty dance in your dreams.

When you wake, you feel well rested and your thoughts are clearer.

You look around, and you find that the book is no longer on your pillow. Panic touches you for a moment, but then you see the book tucked away in your satchel for work. You shake your head.

Going through your morning routines is easy enough. Washing, dressing, breakfast of cheap fruit from Tandice at the market...

And work.

Hours of soul-crushing work.

Copying and copying numbers without end. And for what? A few pennies? This is what caused you to go against your conscience and learn the secrets of the book. And each hour that ticks by makes you feel more and more justified for it.

Thankfully Marr is there. The only bright point in your day. The head archivist of town records gives you a bright smile and pats your hand. She gives you an apologetic look as she hands you more records to copy, but you know it's not really her fault and just nod.

The day passes and finally it is late in the afternoon when you leave for home. You're walking through town, thoughts heavy in your head again.

What shall you do now?

You quicken your pace, the excitement of the book almost pulsing through your satchel.

You give a wave to Tandice as you pass by her stall, and you're surprised to see that you can actually recognize a few of the herbs from the pictures in the book at Selera's store window.

You look to your feet and try not to stare at Anthena's wizard tower, and again you wish that you didn't feel like something was staring right back at you whenever you're near anything connected to the woman.

Finally you're back at your room, tossing the satchel to the bed and fishing out the book.

Already plans are starting in your head, and you follow a thread of them as you flip through the pages of the book.

The progression of the cantrip all the way to the end confirms your suspicion. Complete domination of the subject, from her physical form to her very soul. There is no ambiguity in the wording, and again you blanch at the power you hold. Dominion over even a woman's immortal spirit? It sends chills down your spine.

You push the thought away for a moment, and you find exactly what you are looking for. Control of a woman's memories is a fair number of steps away from the cantrip. Perhaps eight away. You pick out that you need a personal item eventually from the woman you have in mind for many of the spells, and that if you had one to focus on the beginning of the cantrip, you could summon that specific girl. Again it disturbs you to see that if you had no woman in mind, the writer of the book made the spell to call the most attractive woman makes her home closest to your own. You suppose that makes sense, considering the other women in the tavern and why only Giselle was summoned.

You're surprised when you notice that the light is dimming around you. Has two hours already passed? And still you are just learning from one section of the book. The potions and the darker spells still remain untouched.

You consider what to do next as the sun starts to sink below the trees.

While actually learning the next spell after the cantrip does tempt you, you realize that the potions section of the book is already completely open to you. The ingredients may be out of reach, but at least you don't have to brew one potion after the other in specific order or take hours to just figure out the first paragraph of this section.

There is the potion for the perfume. It amazes you that just heating these spices by even the smallest flame can render such an apparently potent mixture.

Only two other potions are simple enough for you to make.

One is a tea that almost guarantees to put a woman to sleep. It actually states that it puts her more to be relaxed and that it isn't an unnatural sleep by any means, but more akin to her feeling bored in a lecture and just... nodding off...

And the last is only fortunate by virtue of last nights meal. Stag flesh and bones. The potion therein is strange... it makes the woman feel that the one that gave it to her is powerful? You can wrap your mind around it, affecting her perception to make her think you're some kind of intimidating and influential presence, but again you question why the author of the book would make such a thing.

Those seem to be the only potions you can make, and it's almost completely dark now.

The first two potions are simple and would take no time at all to prepare, while the stag potion will probably take you well past sundown. Again there is the rest of the book, but you find that you enjoy learning as well.

What shall you do?
>>
>>29982551
Try making the perfume, use it, then go out, call Tandice to us, and flirt with her on a nighttime walk.

We could make the sleep potion as well for if she gets back to our place, we knock her out, and then have an open opportunity to cast the second part of the summoning cantrip. It'll even make us look like a gentleman to let her sleep the night.
>>
>>29982551
Summon Giselle and use the second cantrip.
>>
>>29982551
Jeez, none of those are particularly useful.
Make the relaxation one I guess. We can try it out at work.

We need to raise Anthena's flag.
The book has spells that can raise the target's opinion of the caster, correct? We need to practice that, then try it on Anthena before approaching her.
Or better yet, she comes to us.

You light a candle, as much for heat as well as the light.

You wish that you had some vials like you see in the apothecary, but you make do. The first potion goes off without a hitch. In fact, you fill an empty wine bottle with the perfume. It's curious to you that it smells more like cheese than anything else, but the book specifically notes that only women will smell the pleasant aroma anyway.

The calming tea gives you a bit more of a hassle. This one, you actually can feel supernatural forces at work. Unfortunately, all the wind and the flashing fires in your room makes you spill more than you would like of the concoction. You can only manage to fill a fourth of another wine bottle with this, and it isn't even a very big bottle either.

The trouble that the calming draught gave you has eaten more time than you expected.

You think it's around seven or eight at night now. You had given some thought to testing out the potions on... perhaps Tandice... and you suppose that you could catch her at a reasonable hour if you ran...

And as always, there is the book...

What next?

>>
>>29982898
we would need to summon her first. The cantrip's require hand gestures and spoken words. She would realize she had been summon and that we where putting a spell on her righ away. We probably wouldn't be able to get one sentence out.
>>
>>29982983
That's what I'm getting at. We should do it, but we need to train.
>>
>>29982957
If we think that we could pull off the second stage of the summoning spell if we had an unconscious girl then summon Tandice and go for a walk to meet her outside so it's less suspicious, just two people on a late night walk.
>>
>>29982957
Do it to Giselle instead. It would be easier to lure her back to our room since she lives close by.
>>
>>29982957
Cast the cantrip to summon Tandice, then go for a stroll, and act surprised when we meet up.
>>
>>29983018
>>29983054

Just a reminder that you'd need a personal item from Tandice to summon her. Otherwise doing the cantrip would just call Giselle again.
>>
>>29983075
Ah, then we'll put that off.

We could summon Giselle, though she might be working at this point.
>>
>>29983049
Yes, but her father is our landlord.
We need to figure out how he feels about us and how likely he is to beat us if he catches us with his daughter.

It's hard to pronounce an spell through broken teeth.
>>
Seems like this one might need a bit more of discussion from the players. I'll start writing again in 5 minutes when I can see a consensus.
>>
We know that Giselle is attractive and about our age. But for all we know Tandice is a 40 year old woman with a husband and kids.
>>
>>29983120
It looks like these spells only affect attractive women, if I catch OP's drift. So she might be 40 with kids, but she'd be a milf.
>>
>>29983075
Go for Giselle. Summon, give her the tea, do the next cantrip, wake her up.
>>
>>29983177
We'll want to put the perfume on first if we do that. And get some chatting in before we knock her out.
>>
>>29982957
I would say Tandice if there was a way for the meeting to seem natural. Giselle would be easier to play off as her working to hard and falling asleep.

>>29983111
It's only an affection spell.
>>
I think it is fast becoming clear why this book was hidden.

Have we seen a single spell so far that is to the benefit of the target? All I am seeing are various forms of magical date rape or control.

This may not be necromancy-tier black magic or anything, but I'm pretty sure that if anyone ever finds out we are practicing this stuff we will be thrown in whatever jail they have for magical crimes.

I think the thing to do is to use it as a bargaining chip. All of these spells are of very specific use and poor morality. But we do seem to have some aptitude for magic. We cast a spell, if only a simple one, after only a couple of hours of light reading!

Perhaps we can go to Anthena and propose a deal? Give her this book on magic without raising a fuss (it is still early enough to walk away from the book with our hands clean) but in return she teaches us real magic. Non date-rapey magic.
>>
>>29983305
>wanting non date rapey magic
lets just make her our mind slave and force her to teach us normal magic
>>
>>29983338

If anyone is going to be able to catch us in the act or counter these spells, it is her. And she is way more experienced than us.

Hell, it seems like she might suspect we are messing in something magical already.

Remember that in order to do anything more complex, we have to work our way up the chain. The first thing we would have to do is summon her to us.
But her showing up doesn't mean she wont turn us into a frog when she gets here.

Looking at the potions you have in front of you, you feel a desire starting to stir.

Use them.

Again you have a feeling this is the book speaking, but for all the effort you made, you actually agree with the little voice. Tandice comes to mind as you stare at the calming potion. But that won't work. It's already well past nine, and you know that she sleeps early to open the stall the next morning as well. And you have nothing of hers to use to call her anyway.

But Giselle...

Using the spell is even easier the second time, and you worry about the way the words seem to actually float in your vision as you cast.

You spend a few minutes mulling that over in your head when you hear the rapping on your door.

This time, you don't even wait for Giselle to speak. You open the door and motion Giselle inside.

"Oh... thank you..." Giselle says, and again she looks confused. "Did... did we talk about meeting again from yesterday? I feel like I needed to be here, but I can't actually remember speaking with you about it..."

You nod and tell her that it was so, hoping that she won't dwell on it for so long. You pull a chair for her at your little table and pour her a mug of the calming potion. She looks at it for a moment and seems to be a bit conflicted, but drinks it after just a bit of deliberation. It might be strange, but then again, tea isn't THAT strange.

Almost instantly after finishing the cup, Giselle lets out a yawn. You ask her if she's had a long day, and she nods.

"Yes. Sorry, we had to clean and turn over a lot of rooms today. And we had to haul out that deer carcass and wash the dishes from last night's buffet." She explains, but pauses to yawn again. "... Haaaaaaahh... what about you?"

You can already see the potion working on her quickly and steadily. It has only been perhaps five minutes, but she is resting her chin on her palm, and her eyelids keep drooping...

con't...

Again, there is the slight tinge of regret at seeing the promises of the book come to fruition.

But you've already gone this far. Come hell or high water, you've cast your lot.

Taking the book again, it is only with mild interest that you see you've opened to the exact page of the cantrips. You've already accepted that the book has a mind of its own, and quite possibly an agenda as well.

You take a deep breath, trying to work quickly. Practicing the hand gestures this time, you notice that the difficulty seems to have doubled. You're only half certain that you have the passes down correctly, but you really have no way of knowing at this point.

The words are more complicated as well, requiring you to roll your r's and speaking as if you're choking on top of keeping a breathy susurrus.

But in your mind, the words are clear, and they burn with as much intensity as the last cantrip.

With a bit of confidence, you combine the two, and the wind blows in your room once more, this time over Giselle as she sleeps.

It calms down after a moment, and you are left there, feeling a bit drained, Giselle still slightly snoring.

What now?

Well, quest threads are a bit different than books, given the time frame and how the content is generated, as well as the 2000 character limit per post.

I'll at least give a description for Giselle since I really can't describe her naturally at this point of the story.

She's the tavern owner's daughter of the same age as the character (whatever age you wish). She has wavy red hair that reaches a bit past her shoulders and one or two beauty marks on her face. You do think she is pretty, and she actually has a very warm and welcoming face. She is one of the biggest draws to the bar of the inn, and she dresses to attract. She may not be wearing streetwalker clothes, but her dirndl is very much low cut. She stands about 5'8" and has an hourglass figure. The perfect girl next door, really.

You lean over the table and shake Giselle's shoulder. Again, you question the logic of trusting a book you found hidden underneath a floorboard. Giselle's eyelids flutter open and she gives a great stretch from her seat, and you feel some of those doubts lessen as she at least looks to be unharmed.

"Oh... oh... I'm sorry. Wow, I must be more tired than I thought." She says, rubbing her eyes. At first, it seems as if nothing has changed, but she looks at you for a moment then flashes you a brilliant smile.

"Thanks for inviting me, though! I don't know why we don't spend more time together." she says, and she actually reaches out to hold your hand in hers. "To think, all these months and I hardly know anything about you. I'll come over more often, alright?"

You nod dumbly, as much in shock over Giselle's sudden switch in her regard of you as the accuracy of the book's magic on her.

It passes and you realize the time. It's been more than half an hour at the very least, though no one has called Giselle yet. She sits across from you, still smiling. You have to admit, the quiet this time has none of the awkward air as before. It actually feels more like a companionable silence between two old friends.

Giselle begins to chat with you about the state of your room and actually starts to show genuine interest in your job. You humor her and continue the conversation, wondering if she is even the slightest bit concerned over the time she has spent in your room. After a few more minutes of idle chat, you clearly see that you yourself will have to be the one to bring up the time. Only when you bring up the subject does Giselle seem to notice the time that's passed.

"It's been that long already?! Papa must be swamped by now!" She frets, but still she doesn't seem to want to bring up leaving. For the sake of her nerves and yours, you tell her that she should probably return to her duties.

"Well... only if you're sure..." she says, finally, still showing reluctance. You walk with her to the tavern and she embraces you at the door. "I'll talk to you tomorrow, alright?" she promises, then slips back inside to the raucous taproom.

You are floored by what has happened. As soon as the door closes you turn and race back to your room. It's time to take a closer look at the book and see what else you can learn. Potions, spells, the cryptic codes, you have to learn it all!

What next?
>>
>>29984846
>There is the difference between using people as pawns to be thrown away at whim, and making the people we rely upon our knights and queens, to be protected and shepherded.
We are already using her like a toy.
>Hence why information is key right now, did we just tweak her opinion of us, or outright murder her personality?
You act like there is a difference. We already stripped her of her ability to choose the man she likes which is one of the most intimate parts of a human being, why is anything else suddenly over the line?
>>
>>29984919

I'm not arguing that she isn't being manipulated, but it looks like she's only platonic atm. Nothing there that outright screams LOVE, and the book did say that it only raises the opinion of the subject, not the kind of emotions attached.
>>
>>29984931

Let's do some light reading in the book. Also, like another anon said, let's keep an eye out for possible counters or spells related to women who use magic.
>>
>>29984931
Spells, we need to know what we're doing, how, the whole of it.
Counter magic is also good, and does the book mention anything about conditioning or the like?

If that old hedge mage had this, how was he run out of business by two females?

Giselle needs to be treated carefully right now, ideally we should get to know her and make sure we haven't changed her to much, the worry about her father shows that she's still got other concerns at least.

You lock the door and push the chair up against the knob again, this time even more conscious of the fact that the magic you're dabbling in is very, very real and past the point of innocent dabbling.

The book is there, again, sitting right on your desk, open and waiting for you. Again, an otherworldly breeze fills the room, and you swear that you can see the pages beckoning you to read them.

Your spirits dampened by weight of the situation, you still make your way to the desk and start poring over the tome.

You chuckle ruefully at the page that the book has deemed to let you read first.

"Protective salves against the spells of those you wish to dominate..."

You can already tell at first glance that this is one potion that will take much, much more than you have at hand, you might ever have on hand, to make, but the message the book is sending is clear.

It wants you take the spells and will do everything in its power so that nothing will stop you until you have done so.

For now, brewing that potion may be out of reach. You focus on something else to learn instead. Perhaps another potion? There is always learning the next spell in the chain for Giselle, though you don't quite know how to proceed with that. And of course the untranslated chapters of the books still remain untouched...

What to do?

Knowing you will probably have to spend a day's wages on candles tomorrow, you turn the pages to look again at the chain of spells that you have started on Giselle. A lump forms in your throat as you see the end result of the spells, of complete subjugation, but you push those thoughts from your mind. You're getting better at that, nowadays.

You try to focus on the next part of the chain. You don't know exactly how your suggestions will be taken more into consideration by Giselle, given how she seemed to already hang on every word you say, but that is what the next step outlines.

The actual casting gives you pause, however. It is ridiculous, the number of motions your hand must make, and now it seems there is a time constraint on top of everything. For anyone observing, there would be no doubt that you are practicing sorcery if they even spend a second watching you perform this particular spell.

Sighing, you lean back, trying to do the waves, but only succeeding at cracking your knuckles. You wince, shaking the sting off and flipping through the book once again.

As you are stretching your fingers and practicing the second spell's motions, you stop at a page of gibberish.

Or, what used to be gibberish.

You can only make out one sentence from the page, but it is definitely one that you can guess with certainty.

"How to read the thoughts of the feeble woman."

You know it's late. You know that it will take you a very long time to decipher the rest of the page. And do you really need to do that right now?

You still have work in the morning, and you notice just how tired and peckish you are.

How do you proceed?

I'm still mad about that.
>>
>>29985439
When you create a story, you usually have a path you wish you players to go. The path is not fixed and if the players decide to break out of it, they can.

As a QM/GM/DM you wish that your players follow the road you created. If you force them back into the road, you are railroading, and that is bad. If you let them wander stray from the road and they arrive at nothing, the story is lost, and that is bad.

The ideal is to make that all roads lead to the final goal, letting the players take their time, while favoring the options that further the story.

Not all Quests must be open world. You have free will, but is limited. If the players want to be careful and you force them to do something they don't want, THAT's bad QMing.

Just because a quest has smut, doesn't ean you can't have story. The more you care about the characters, the more you care about the fucking.

But that's just my two cents.

At least you still have enough control over yourself to know that trying to read an evil, self-aware tome on how to dominate half of the world's population on a sleepy mind is probably a terrible idea.

You close the book and put it under your fruit bowl, grabbing an apple to eat as you change for bed. You're curious whether the book will appear on your pillow again or maybe somewhere else and it never hurts to see just what the book is capable of.

Sighing, you close your eyes. Once more, the excitement of the day lets you sleep in peace, with dreams of women firmly obeying your every command.

When you wake up, it's more or less the time that you usually do. You turn and check to see if your pillow has another occupant, and you are pleasantly surprised that your head alone is on the cushion.

That is, until you look to the table.

There the book gleams with its red lettering, propped up by a fresh set of clothes and your work satchel.

Grudgingly, you dress and stow the book in your bag, making sure you have everything for a day at work.

Stepping outside, you see Giselle sweeping at the front of the tavern, and she gives you a wave.

"Heading to work already?" she asks, and you nod. "Wait just a second." she says, disappearing into the inn and coming back out with a bun wrapped in her handkerchief.

"Here. You can eat it now or later. Don't worry about the hanky, you can give it back anytime." she says, looking very pleased with herself as you thank her. "No problem! Have a good day at work." She says, picking her broom back up and you wave goodbye.

The trip to work isn't very eventful, other than Tandice surprised to see that you already have breakfast on hand.

Wait waits for you at work is another matter entirely, and your heart skips a beat.

In the window, you clearly see Anthena and Marr speaking with each other. You step away from sight, but you're sure of what you've seen.

Then the sounds from within stop, and you wonder if anything else is happening.

Your thoughts are interrupted by the tinkling of a door chime and you look to see Anthena exit the town archive with a brooding look.

You step away from the wall and try to look as innocent as possible, bowing your head and hoping that the both of you just walk past each other.

And Anthena's description as I write the next part.

---

Anthena is an intimidating woman, to say the least. She stands a full head taller than you, and while you appreciate the view of her deep, snow-white cleavage, looking up a few inches to her equally beautiful face is something that you feel cuts down on your life expectancy. Still, even through her scowl and what seems to be a permanently angry brow, the way her kohl-rimmed eyes and black-rouged lipstick gives her and even more striking appearance than just her natural good looks, high cheekbones, and straight hair tied up in a bun as severe as the looks she usually gives you. She wears a revealing robe made of black fur and trimmed with volumes of raven feathers, and you can see that her accessories are also made from said bird. If Giselle is a fit girl with curves in all the right places, Anthena is voluptuous to a fault, almost spilling out of her robes and with legs that go on forever as you can see from the high slit of her dress and accentuated by heeled shoes that probably give her another few inches of height above you.
>>
>>29986440
"I'm sorry. I'm afraid I know of nobody that fits that description."

Seriously, insulting a dead person? Classy. We can use our offense at her horrible manners to avoid answering further questions. Because he really did know magic. Then do some research on a way to get her as soon as we can. The book is aware with an agenda, which is worrying, but in this case it will work in our favor.

"You mean the hedge mage? I suppose, but a lot of us worked on that case. If you want something specific you'll have to put in an official request." You say, sidestepping and trying not to spend too much time with the woman.

"If you'll excuse me, I have to go to work, ma'am." You say, with a lot less confidence inwardly than your voice suggests.

She looks at you with a bit of shock and much more indignant anger, but you just brush past and hope that she won't follow you inside.

"Stop! I'm still talking to you!" she says, but thankfully she doesn't seem to be following you inside.

As you open the door, you see that Marr is looking at you with some concern, and Anthena is still calling you back in a loud voice, enough that even Marr hears her.

You know that you'll have to deal with Anthena again, but you think you can just close the door and be done with her for the day. Or any other number of options, actually.

For one, these are details they understand at a glance due to a bunch of shit about human memory I don't feel like getting into right now, but sufficed to say a paragraph doesn't even begin to do justice the things the human mind can take in at a glance.

Secondly, this is OUR first time seeing them, so it would be fucking nice to know who or what we are looking at even if it is something the MC has seen before.

Thirdly, you have yet to convey that these characters are familiar with each other. The dialogue and interactions are so stiff it feels like this is the first time they have met, maybe even the first time the MC has ever talked to another human being.

It probably is the first time the witch has talked to him. He's just a lowly scribe.
>>
You slam the door and wince as Anthena still seems to go on screeching for another full minute before you see her tromping away.

Marr looks tense as the exchange comes to a close. You know the head archivist has always been a delicate girl. While she is a year older than you, she barely looks older than a girl that's just finished her schooling. Given her short stature, faint brunette hair, and owlish glasses, Marr is the picture of frailty and a girl who lives for her books.

"What's wrong with her? Has she been harassing the department?" You ask, jerking a finger back to the door.

Marr shakes her head, making her short bob flare out briefly as she replies to you.

"No, she just came in today with a lot of questions about the hedge mage and you! Did something happen while you were documenting the house?" Marr says in a frightened quaver.

Your heart breaks a bit at Marr's display of innocence. Still, is it really a wise idea to say even the slightest thing about the book to anyone?

Marr waits behind her desk for you to answer, and your satchel suddenly feels much, much heavier...

(What next?)
>>
>>29986677
Its already too late. You just dumped her into our lap without any rhyme or reason. I don't know who this Marr bitch is, I don't know the MCs relation to her, how old she is, or really any goddamned thing about her, yet you want expect me to somehow react to her. You gotta give us something to work off of for fucks sake.

Mindcontrol Marr into trusting us completely before we tell her anything.
>>
>>29986803
"I'm afraid not. Could you tell me what she was asking about?"
>>
>>29986803
Tell her everything went normally. You performed the one last check, and found nothing. Everything had been cleared and the house was fine to condemn.

>>29986806
Except she was introduced as head archivist in a previous post.
>>
>>29986803
"Not as far as I know, I certainly didn't see anything.

What was she asking about anyways?"
>>
>>29986848
I had already posted before 4chan updated the page and my point still stands.
>>
"There wasn't anything that I could tell. What was the witch asking about, anyway?" You say, trying to play it cool as you walk past and sit at your desk.

"I hope that's all there is to it." Marr says, already going back to her own documents with the scratch of her quill filling the air. "Getting this much attention even before your first year? It might reflect badly later, you know..." Marr says, but her gaze softens and the scratches start to slow. "She didn't ask anything past the people associated with the case. I hope you're not getting into any trouble..." she says, and you just shake your head no.

You hope you're not getting into any trouble as well, but you seriously doubt that. Already the book has appeared underneath a stack of papers on your desk, mostly hidden but nothing short of a beacon to you.

A stray, vicious thought is whispering for you to use your powers over what it calls "the tasty little book waif" and you know that you've slipped just a bit further when you feel a part of you agree.

Still, that doesn't mean you go through with it, does it? It might be better to get back to work and not stir up another issue with Anthena only minutes away still. But maybe it might help in the long run. All these questions run through your mind as you wonder what to do next...

Close race between options. Also, this is more of a note for all the great anons still following this little magical realm quest (thanks by the way). I'm keeping NEET time right now and will probably plow through for another two hours still. If there's an audience, I'll go through all the way till I'm tired since I'm having a lot of fun with this quest. Thanks again for all the suggestions for my writing and coming along for the ride.

The temptation is too great and again you feel yourself take another step further down a dark path as you stand up and walk towards Marr.

"Marr, can I borrow one of your quills? The nib on mine is worn down or something." You ask, knowing very well that Marr treasures her hawk-feather quills and takes them home each night.

"Alright... but only for today. Be gentle, okay?" Marr says, taking one from her pot and handing it to you. You thank her and go back to your seat.

Your leg is shaking as you do the first cantrip of the chain. The quill is in front of you, and the passes now come naturally. You hear the scratches of Marr's writing stop.

"You doing alright there? Do you need any help or something?" you hear her voice, and by the gentle breeze in the room you can tell that it's begun.

You hide your hands under your desk and make the second ritual, and the quill in front of you shakes while the words burn in your vision.

"... I can't believe that Anthena, though... Coming in accusing you like that... You're one of our most promising clerks! How dare she raise her voice at you... she's a b...b... BITCH!" You hear Marr, and you can't help but smile. Marr never cursed. Never, ever, ever cursed.

Now was the moment of truth, and you concentrate everything on your hands and the whispers. The feather is fraying and curling, but you don't stop even as Marr's rants now turn vicious and vitriolic. You can hear death threats in her voice as you finish the last spell with nimble fingers and darkening vision.

Even though the windows are open and the sun is shining through, it's as if the office darkens. Marr's voice quiets down, and the silence returns.

"But what do you think?" Marr asks pleasantly in her normal voice.

Nothing else seems different. At least not as far as you can tell. But the quill in front of you is twisted and frayed. And you know that short of the most depraved of acts, Marr would do anything you ask.

You know that in your heart... what now?

"Yes, she is, isn't she? I'd rather avoid talking to her again if possible. Can we throw up a prociderial stonewall on her questioning? Make her fill out some forms in order to get answers?"

If she fills out forms, we can try using the forms as a link to cast spells.
>>
>earlier post was bragging about how many players OP had

You know that the book is doing this. You know that it's reckless. You know that Anthena might just be outside the door, waiting for the perfect chance to blast you into a thousand magical bits. You know all of those things.

You don't care.

No one ever comes into the office this early of the day. Well, aside from the witch. You stand up from your desk and take the book in your hand. Marr looks at you with curiosity, though she does nothing to stop you. You lock the door and then look at the archivist.

"Marr, can I see you in the records room?" You say. Usually Marr would have asked you why. Usually Marr would never leave her work unless there was a good reason. Usually Marr wasn't under a curse that made you the most trustworthy man in existence. So, unusually, Marr only nods and stands, walking with you to the room barely bigger than a broom closet. You close the door and lock that one behind you as well.

"Marr, you like me, don't you?" You ask bluntly with a confidence that you know you shouldn't have.

"Of course I do! I think you're a great friend." She smiles. You feel the words being fed to you to twist that.

"I know... but I think there might be more to it than just that." You say.

"Marr. I think you might like me. You want me." You say, and only now do you feel the slight doubts form in your head. Mar looks at you for a moment of confusion, but then nods.

"You... you're right. I never thought of it that way, but o-of course that's what I'm feeling!" she says, conviction suddenly steeling her voice as she steps closer to you with a blush on her cheeks.

"It's alright, Marr. I know what you're feeling. You don't know it, but I can tell. It's alright Marr. Just give in. I want you just as badly."

Her eyes become misty and Marr smiles back at you. Her breath is hot and you see her unbuttoning her high collared blouse and you hurry to undress as well.

Clothes hit the floor.

>>
Marr is pretty. She may not have had the fuller figures of Anthena or Giselle, but her skin is smooth and has the shade of a white rose. She fits perfectly against you, and you can even rest your chin on her head if you wanted.

But you want other things right now. She may not have flared in pillowy flesh, but the graceful lines of her body showed a perfect curved symmetry. Her breasts are high and capped with gentle pink nipples, and you feel like you own every inch of her as you run your hand from her shoulder down to her back and to rest on her soft rear.

"Marr... take me in your mouth." You rasp, and it's agonizing how her body and her bare skin slides over yours as she bends down and sits on her ankles.

You tilt your head back as two soft lips wrap around your cock. Her mouth is hot and tight, and you know that the wet touches sliding underneath your tip are from Marr's eager tongue. Hand that have never had a day of hard work are the perfect texture as they rub and cradle your balls, and you don't know how long you can last as Marr's head begins to bob up and down your shaft.

con't.
>>
You gasp, looking down at the light brown hair and a pair of innocent eyes looking up at you from behind shining lenses. You run your fingers through that pixie cut. You want nothing more than to grab a fistful of it and just push her down and to make her take you to the hilt.

But that isn't how you're supposed to use Marr. Both you and the whispers agree. You only press lightly, enjoying the feel of her wet mouth and how her lips are spread taut around your shaft.

It's an amazing pressure, and it builds up tantalizingly with each second. You can hear Marr's own moans around your cock, and you can feel control slipping as she continues to lick and play.

The first spurt comes as a surprise, just a little jet, and you lock eyes with Marr as she tastes you. You try to hold it in for just a little bit longer, but Marr's eyes are bright and her cheeks rise. You know she's there, on her knees, smiling as she takes every inch of you into her mouth, and that is all it takes.

You still don't force her, but you put your palm flat on Marr's head as you cum. She never lets up for a second, taking ever increasing licks under your shaft and giving gentle squeezes on your balls.

You hold her there for what feels like an eternity that isn't long enough. You feel yourself grunt, then your shoulder slump as you relax.

You're spent, but even now the sliding lips that capture every drop as Marr draws back send tingles through your softening cock.

Now she smiles at you completely, still sitting patiently on the floor.

"What next?" she asks.

What next indeed, you wonder...

Calling it a night seeing as it's late and it looks like someone's dedicated to clearing this off of suptg. If I start up again, I'll make a link to the foolz archive so people can at least figure out what's going on.

Anyway, I'll hang out in the thread till it gets bumped off. Chat with me if you guys like.
>>
>>29988342
Maybe next time you should deliver more than one half-post of smut when you make a smut thread.

I didn't downvote your quest, but I almost agree with him.
>>
>>29988342
Yeah, it's probably best you use foolz. Not as clean but it can't be misarchived.
>>
>>29988420

That's fair. I honestly just wrote what I thought is hot when it comes to MC. I'm getting that a lot of people disagree with me. Still, I hope that some people found satisfaction with it. I'd like to continue with it anyway.

>>29988508
dont be discouraged by all the hate , though the only issue i had was the lack of character descriptions and clear lack of objective at the start and through most of the thread realy, besides that i thought the pacing and content was perfectly fine and the smut was great, cant wait for future smut and plot. if you could give a few options to go with the wot do part it would realy speed things up i think, just stuff to keep the flow and give choices but always have writin as an option just as a reminder that its just a guideline nad not a railroad. looking forward to the next thread, this has potential but people will always get mad at smut quests no mater what.
>>
>>29988828
Thanks for the kind words. My ego is starting to recover and I'm starting to look at it objectively.

I get that the sentences were disjointed and that most people want a more natural description of characters within the posts.

One thing I'm still having trouble with is how I was railroading. I thought I was giving enough options to the players at the time, but should it be more than just "study potions, study chain, translate dark chapters, write-in"?
>>
>>29988889
well you could also add to cast a known spell or make potion, maybe even walk around town or talk to other characters, also i wasnt trying to say it was railroaded just that having write in there reminds people that its not limited to only the listed options is all, i also realy liked that the wispers wanted us to be gentle with her and not just ravage her, realy nice touch.
>>
>>29988967

Cool. I'll remember putting little reminders here and there, especially for stuff that's on hand like the cantrips or the potions if and when the main character has them on hand.
>>
>>29988889
I didn't really see any railroading going on.
>>
>>29988992

Thanks. I'll add in some solid options too, the next time around, as well as reminders of relevant things that the main character can do.
>>
>>29988989
I would also like to see the whole potions aspect be fleshed out and explained a little more, its just feels too vague to me is all, maybe a little list of reagents could be used as a something to make it seem more than just something we either can or can't make.

I was thinking something based on how rare, valuable or hard to obtain a part of it would be simplified in a common, uncommon and rare catagory that each potion would require a number of each of these groups. For example the sleep tea we made could require 1 common reagent to make and the one we couldnt make could need something like 2 common and 1 rare depending on how hard it is to make just to keep track of what we can or can't make. We could get these from a stall that had some of the things we saw in the book if i recall, We could have something like cx3 ux1 rx0 as a simple way to keep stock. this is of corse entirely your decision to go with if you want to do it like this, its just a suggestion is all.
>>
>>29989202

Alrighty. I'll delve into making recipes for the potions as well.
>>
>>29989216
Just aslong as its not overly complex and doesnt take away too much from the plot it should be fine, maybe have the realy simple ones not even need anything to make if you thinkit couold work. If its toomuch trouble you can just keep it like it is, its not that big a deal anyway, just do what you think people will have the mot fun with.
>>
>>29989428

I'll be going about it like, how many doses you can make in your house or how many you have on your person.
>>
>>29989508
That sounds good. Looking forward to it
>>
Last thing before we drop off the board.

Anybody have specific time frames they'd like to see this quest?
>>
Also, if this is for the final note, upvotes on suptg would be much appreciated.
>>
>>29989678
serioustly dont wory about votes on suptg, it got bombarded with downvotes because its smut related and most of them are bots, as for time just run whenever you its convenient and you have a few hours to run, but if you want the same general groupe then just stick to running at the same time but some day will just have less participents.
