Stupidly Early Morning Edition!

Scavengers, Trespassers, Adventurers, Lolis, Killers, Explorers, Robbers.

YOU ARE VASA,

and you just took a pretty heavy boot to the face. Your head cracks back into the mud as your vision fills with stars and you feel your nose break, though you have enough presence of mind to shut your eyes and let your entire body go limp. Oh God that hurt. You feel the scumsucker that just threatened to rape you running his hands a little too excitedly over your body as his friends retrieve your guns from the ground. You bite back your revulsion as he gets a little more gropey, managing to keep feigning unconsciousness. After a few more moments, he hefts you up over his shoulder and starts carrying you down the hill towards the ongoing firefight.
As the stars start to recede and your focus comes back, you start to assess your realistic options here. You're being bounced along on the shoulder of the bandit as he jogs across the bridge. His one hand is occupied by holding you in place/groping your ass, while the other is keeping his AK-74u pressed to his body as he moves. His buddies are a few paces ahead, making better time but keeping their focus on the firefight ahead. Just a few inches from your swaying fingers is the scumsucker's hip holster with a Makarov. It looks pretty well-worn, but it'd likely fire if you needed it to.

They're clearly involved with the group that's currently engaging your friends, who have no idea that there's an extra force moving in to flank them. You could try to alert them to the incoming presence, but that will likely earn the ire of your captors. Alternatively, you could draw this pistol and try to bring all three of them down. That's more likely to get you killed than beaten though. Or you could just stay the quiet little prisoner and hope the little knife demon saves the day again.

Well, you've already managed to mess this up once. Best to stop drawing attention to yourself and wait it out. You can at least trust the girl to wreak horrific death upon these guys as soon as they're stupid enough to come in range of her.

When the three reach the wire fence around the outpost, you get dumped unceremoniously against it. The two break to the left and leave your captor alone. He shoves you up against one of the fence posts while pulling a couple of cable ties from one of his pockets, apparently meaning to cuff you in place while he deals with the others. You wait until he's leaning right in over you before you try to pull his pistol free and take him down. Just as you're about to move, however, you hear a terrified screaming and the distinctive rattle of someone panic-firing everywhere, followed almost immediately by a second very similar scream. The bandit snaps back away from you, pulling his AK up in the direction his friends had just run off in, before being thrown flat on his face by a burst of gunfire spraying him in the back.

From the other side, Kris materializes from the undergrowth, quickly running over to you as you push yourself back onto your feet unsteadily. "Vasa! Vas, are you okay? I heard you fire and then you didn't check me back!" Kris' face is extremely pale, her eyes wide.

You grunt at her, indicating your good health, before retrieving the AK from the fresh corpse. It's in terrible condition, as if it'd never once been cleaned during its long career, but this is a Kalashnikov. You know it'll be perfectly good.
"More bad guys showed up. Sounds like Loli's dealing. How about we help her out?" Kris nods determinedly at you, holding her own rifle close to her chest at the ready.

>>

Aw hell yeah, horrors of lonliness and war!

Stick together and Intercept the bandits.
>>
>>30012043
kind of a mix, but mostly the latter, with sprinklings of the former

its a moeblob loli (who managed to weaponise her cuteness, seriously, we gave a merc a heart attack by smiling at him) running around being stupidly cute while eviscerating her way through the countryside, she was for a short time under the mind control of monolith, and managed to kill so many people so brutally, that the inhabitants of the zone call her 'Giltine' or death.
>>
>>30012152
Sometimes I wonder where the monolith replaces its soldiers from when I'm playing as Strelok or Degtyarev.

For that matter, canonically what was Strelok and Degtyarev's reason how they were able to kick so much ass without having the zone claim another life?
In terms of game mechanics it's Saveload, but was this explained in in-universe terms as luck or precog or something?
>>
>>30012191
I honestly paid so little attention to the story and just kept hunting other humans I can't recall anything about it.
>>
>>30011833
You move off towards the main road, gesturing for Kris to fall in behind you as you aim to cut the advance of the reinforcements. You're pretty sure Loli would be able to deal with them on her own, but it's about time you were actually useful, and taking them out here would let her focus on the group that are setting up better defensive positions around the brick building. You're slightly curious as to why they haven't taken up positions in the building itself, but you shrug the thought aside as you advance rapidly around the compound.

When you reach the corner of the wire fence, you drop low to the ground and look down the road. You hold your hand up to Kris telling her to stop where she is. Two fingers to your face, finger around your wrist, four fingers in the air. You can see four more contacts near-sprinting up the road to Loli's position (made pretty obvious by the near-constant chorus of small-arms fire bracketing the tree stores from two directions, both the building and the horde of zombies shuffling ever closer). Kris gives you the okay, and brings her rifle to her eye. You take a few quick paces into the open and drop onto your belly so Kris can get a clear shot around the fence.

A quick ambush on a small group charging recklessly through open ground at less than fifty meters, with two automatic weapons. If you couldn't pull even this off, you don't know if you'd ever be able to look your father in the eye again. As it is, you can. The four barely have time to entertain the thought that they're being engaged before they're transformed into four bloodied heaps of flesh on the ground. Well, that's a few less to worry about.

You start to assess the overall situation, trying to work out where best to deploy yourself and Kris to shift the bandits out of the building as fast as possible and hopefully keep control of the situation when Kris makes a surprised little squeak. You turn to find Doggy nuzzling her from behind, the strap of your silenced SVU in his maw. Well, that's useful. You pull the gun from its grip, making sure not to look at all thankful at the thing. You wouldn't want it thinking you liked it, after all. As soon as you've grabbed it, the hound lopes away back into the compound in the direction of the zombie horde.

You decide to back up away from the fence and circle out further around the compound. On the other side of the road, there's quite a bit of thick scrub and brush to conceal you, but with a clear view on the side of the main building. If you can get there, you could flank all the way around and take the defenders out at will. You wave your hand forward, getting Kris to stick close to you as you increase the distance from the compound and allowing you to cross the road far enough away that the bandits hopefully won't spot you as you cross the short stretch of open ground.

As the rate of fire picks up for a split second, you hurl yourself over the road. As soon as you hit the ground on the other side, you roll into a bush and go motionless, eyes on the building. No one reacts to the sudden motion, so you wait a few more seconds, then motion Kris to follow. She skids in beside you with little fuss, and the both of you continue skirting around the building. A few more seconds and you're in a good position, staring right into the flank of the six guys spread out around the rear of the brick building.

You're about to squeeze off the first shot when a flying mass explodes through the window of the brick building in an shower of glass and splinters. You watch on in a numb shock as the ball unfurls into a diminutive little figure, drenched head to toe blood, spinning as it rises. Kris mumbles beside you, "what, but she was... when did..." A flick of its wrist, and one of the bandits finds themselves thrown against the wall with a knife lodged in his throat. The spin continues around, the other hand pulling an M1911 from its hip holster and unloading into the faces of two more. The figure doesn't react as yet more blood spatters across her face. "...She can keep my pajamas."

You have no response to Kris' off-hand comment as the spectacle rages on, Loli kicking into a roll that takes her straight underneath the stream of bullets from one of the bandits further out from the building, who inadvertently hoses down one of his own comrades instead.
As she twists back into cover behind the building, you remember what you're supposed to be doing and recenter your crosshair. A quick double-tap, and the last two bandits keel over, never knowing what hit them.

You silently lament to yourself as you see the last set of comfortable clothes you owned get ruined beyond hope as Loli finally brings her rampage to an end.
Not that the fight is over, mind. Those mindless guys are still wandering all over the place and spraying bullets everywhere, but all the guys who were just moments ago trying their level best to murder you are all now lying in pools of their own blood and/or brain matter.

You're brought back to focus by a jab in your ribs and Vasa elbows you for attention. She holds her fingers out flat together at you, then curls them together in the direction Loli just disappeared in. She... wants you to go in after her. You think. You nod your head quickly at her, then steel yourself to go back in.

You don't think you'll ever get used to it being like this...

Without another thought, you push yourself to your feet and run as hard and fast as you can for the gap in the fence closest to Loli's last position, even as you hear the muffled thwaps of Vasa's rifle knocking down any of the mindless guys who might've been looking your way.
You crash in against the wall, whipping your head around to make sure you're in the clear as you try to catch your breath again. A peek around the corner offers no sign of Loli, but there's a doorway in the side of the building with the door torn clean off.

[ ]Go in after her.

You quickly slip in through the doorway, away from the gunfire still bouncing around randomly outside. The inside of the building is eerily quiet. You take a moment to load a fresh magazine before taking a few slow, careful steps over the fallen door, rifle ready to snap to any threat that presents itself. "Loli, psst hey, are you here?" You take another step forward, bringing your foot off the door. And it's at this moment that it shoots into the air and slams itself back into place, tight in the doorway. You instantly hurl yourself against it, but bounce limply off it again. You stare in horror at the rigid door as it dawns on you that the thing isn't even in it's socket. It's simply hovering in the air, blocking your way.
A rattle from inside the building spins you back around, and you can feel an oppressive air pressing in all around you. You could almost swear you can see everything in the room turning dark blue.
You can feel your heart hammering through every part of your body as your breathing gets faster and faster.

Alright, calm down, Kris. Calm down. Breath slow. You control your breathing, making sure to take longer, deeper breaths instead of quick, shallow ones. Just breath, that's all you gotta do. Slow, deep breaths. You can feel your heart rate slowing down to manageably over-paced as you barely avoid going into a total panic. Just... breath...

And duck, ducking's good too.
Your calming meditation is cut abruptly short by a toolbox being thrown at your head from the rafters.
"WHAT THE HELL, WHO THREW THAT?" Your rifle is already trained on the spot as your eyes scour the dark. You keep low, steadily moving yourself towards the upturned workbench in the center of the room. Just as you reach it, you duck again, throwing yourself behind the bench as a hacksaw goes spinning over your head.
And you're pretty sure there wasn't anything throwing that one. It just threw itself.
What is this, a cheap horror flick!?

And now you're pretty much trapped in the very center of the open-plan room. All four walls are covered in various heavy-looking wood-cutting tools, or saws, or mechanical parts and gears. Behind you is the window that Loli exploded through earlier, while on the other side is the main double-doors, left wide open.

The blue tint to the world is getting distinctly bluer as the seconds tick by.

You're almost to the window when the sound of rapid gunfire from behind you make you glance back. The sight makes you freeze on the spot; it's one that will stay with you for as long as you live, however short that time frame might be about to become.

Near the center of the room, where you were standing just a few moments ago, is what can only be described as a large ball of static energy. It's occasionally pulsing blue streaks into the objects around it, but is otherwise unmoving. Above it, as if having just leapt from the rafters, is Loli, both pistols extended towards it, a determined look on her face. What's most vivid about the situation though, is that she isn't falling. She's stopped in the air, mid-descent, simply unloading both pistols point-blank at the energy ball.
In a split second, you realize that she must've been sneaking around the room to get the perfect drop on... whatever this thing is, but she's gone and blown her position early to try and pull its attention off your exposed back. Because of you... again...

She keeps pulling the triggers on both pistols, but the rounds look almost as if they're connecting with invisible jelly; they're slowing down to a stop, in mid-air just before they reach the outer edge of the ball.

The sound of gunfire is suddenly replaced by the distinctive click-click-click of someone firing on empty. The glare on Loli's face transforms into a furious snarl, before she's launched through the air at you.

>>
>>30014814
You lie where you fell, not moving for a long time. Nothing else gets thrown at you, and the ball just seems to absently float around the room as if you'd never even been here.

You're pretty sure a couple of your ribs are broken, but not in a bad way. Just the way that they're going to ache like hell for quite a few weeks.
Loli is lying unconscious on your lap, a pretty bad welt forming on the side of her head. You can't tell too well like this, but she seems to be breathing just fine. Her breath brushes your fingers as you stroke a few strands of blonde hair from her face. She's so cute when she's sleeping. You can almost imagine what she was like. Before all of this...
You feel a trickle of blood running down the back of your neck, and realize that the crown of your head is oddly warm and wet. Your vision is swimming a little.

A short burst of static, and Vasa's voice comes through your radio. "Oi, goddamn it Kris, come in already. You'd better not be dead in there or so help me, I will-"

You mutter a response under your breath. "Shuurrr, I'm good." You didn't mean for it to come out all slurred like that. "Just chillin' out in here with a floating ball of murderrr." Hang on, that's not what you wanted to say. Focus, damnit. Could the room stop spinning for a second and let you think, please?

Judging by Vasa's voice asking you to repeat that makes it evident that she'd like you to focus too.
You shake your head and blink a few times, before trying again. "I'm hurt. Loli's unconscious. Need help."
The great think about the throat microphones you and Vasa have been using is that despite the fact that you've been talking in something barely above a mumble, it will have all been coming through perfectly clear on her end. Neat little invention. You'd like to high-five whoever thought of them.
You can't help but think that was an odd thought to be crossing your mind as your consciousness finally gives out and the blackness rushes to meet you.

You kept saying the brat was going to get you all killed, and you're going to be annoyed if there's noone else around to hear you say you told them so.

You take a moment to assess your options.
You could blow your way in there and hope you can overcome whatever thing just took down two of your squadmates in one go. You've got a couple of smoke grenades that you might be able to use for screening or distraction, or you could try sneaking in and getting them both out quietly.
Of course, you could always decide you prefer living and just leave them to die.

This sounds like the snipey way to do things. Also Kris didn't seem very distressed even though she needs help.

There's absolutely no way rushing in blind will end well for anyone involved. You might be able to get in nice and quiet-like, though, if take your time. The broken window at the back of the building is probably the safest way into the building if you want a good look in first. You wait until most of the zombies are looking away from you before scampering across the open ground, SVU at the ready.

None of the shufflers even so much as look your way as you move quickly to the window. You slow as you get close, and come in from an angle, making sure 'slice the cake' of what little you can see of the room through the broken window. When you finally reach the window, you see the hostile.

Yup, that's a floating ball of murder, alright. A poltergeist, clear as day silhouetted against the morning light shimmering through the opposite doorway. You've encountered them a few times before, but only ever managed to kill one. It's never been this clear, this perfect a shot before though.

You notice a little trail of blood on the broken window pane and glance down to see, with well-contained distress, the bodies of both Kris and Loli lying still on the floor the other side of the window frame from you. Kris is bleeding quite badly from her scalp, but you won't be able to tell without checking her whether or not it's a serious injury.

[ ]Try to pull them both out. It'll be noisy, awkward and possibly dangerous, but you don't necessarily have to try your skill at killing a 'geist.

I don't think it's a good idea to mess around with that thing in the vicinity. Vasa should be able to take it down. Or if not, at least we all die happily together.

>>30016278
You definitely don't like the way Kris is bleeding, not one bit. Before you can see to her though, this thing is in the way. You ever so slowly slide the barrel of your SVU through the window and find a spot to rest it, using both hands to brace near the stock ready for the recoil. You take a death breath, stabilize the sight low on the target, then pull the trigger six times in rapid succession.
An explosion of blood and gore from the ball, and the energy is released in a pulse that hits you like a blast of wind, ringing in your ears. The blue tint that had been niggling at your vision evaporates, and the air suddenly feels as if it's become lighter.

You don't spare the falling corpse of a half-man-thing a second glance as you leap through the window to check on Kris. You gently lift her head up, carefully cradling her neck as you feel around the back of her skull. There's a cut there, probably from the glass. It's not deep.
You let out a sigh you didn't notice yourself holding as you collapse back against the wall, still cradling Kris in your arms.

[PERSPECTIVE SWITCH!]

[x]And back to Loli.
>>
>>30016623
Your eyes flicker open, and you find yourself staring at the ceiling. The floor feels oddly warm, fleshy and lap-shaped under your head. You crane your neck around to find that you are, in fact, in Kris' lap. Who is, in turn, in Vasa's lap. Who is silently crying to herself about something.

Huh. You don't really understand her very well.
Either way, you note that the fuzzly thing that was guarding the loot is now gone, and the gunfire outside has ceased completely.

Yes! Time for treasure! You roll off Kris' lap and pull yourself upright. Vasa quickly rubs the tears off her face with the back of her palm as you move, but greets you with her usual gruff indifference. "Huh, you're not dead, then?"

"Nope~!" you say, happily at her. "Come on, let's check out the treasure already!"

"Tre... what treasure?"

You don't give an answer, instead skipping to the far end of the room and up the hidden ladder to the walkway hidden above the rafters. You wait impatiently as Vasa gently puts Kris down and makes to follow you. You lead her along the walkway (with her being far too slow and steady crossing the rickety old wooden beams) and up to large safe door embedded in the wall. You grin at her. She stares blankly at you.

You fish out the key you looted from the other guys' leader from where you'd safely stashed it (don't ask where), and pop it into the hole. A quick turn and a simultaneous twiddling of the combination lock, and the door swings open to reveal your prize.

"Well, screw me with a banana and call me Daisy," Vasa exclaims next to you, eyes wide in sheer disbelief. "How in the hell did you know this would be here?"

"Doggy, of course!", you beam up at her as she takes inventory of the haul.

[CONGRATULATIONS! You have now unlocked the hidden stash in the Sawmill.]
>You may return to access this stash at any time in the future, should your path come through here.
>Though beware that others will also seek to gain access, should they learn of its existence.

STASH INVENTORY:
4x RPG-7 warheads.
Primed RPG warhead and IED detonator.
Enough plastic explosive to level the Zone twice over.
RPK-74 with 1,000 rounds of ammunition.
2x Desert Eagles, chambered for .50
MP5K with 5 magazines
(Some other stuff, but you got bored of listening to Vasa talk guns.)

You have no idea what most of that means, but it all looks fun, and Vasa sure is impressed!

I feel an urge to collect a gravity artifact coming up now.

Sorry folks, was meaning to go on longer but some stuff has come up. This feels like as good a place as any to call the thread for now. If you guys preferred this style, I'll start the next thread tomorrow morning again and try to run all day.

I'll still be around for some time on and off, so feel free to throw me any questions you might be burning ask. Or give any feedback, it's always welcomed.
Or generally discuss plans.
Or whatever it is players do.

I feel indifferent to the new style. If it's easier for you then you should keep doing, I think.

Great thread as always, thank you for running Kaleun!
Will you give us a chance to reclaim the gravity artifact? I really really want it again, like holy shit.
>>
>>30017145
There's gravity artifacts, and then there's simply having a larger squad. If Loli gets her shit together and starts working like she's in a team, that team could become extremely dangerous.
>>
>>30017207
On the other hand, do you really expect that to happen? These are by far our most resilient followers, and one of them is nearly dead right now. The other actively wants to kill us and Doggy.
>>
>>30017256
>actively
Not as long as she needs the two death machines to help get to her father.
>>
>>30017256
I don't think she genuinely wants to kill us so much as... just disbelieve our existence. Ya. Loli is a monster dressed as moeblob, like a cuteness vampire scarier then anything else in the Zone.
>>
>>30017256
At the current rate, no, I don't think so. I don't think the other players have any interest in changing up the style and not just rushing into every bloodbath they can find. They're going to get killed just like everyone else that's ever been on our side.

>>30017331
Vasa is the complete opposite of Loli. She's cautious and prefers to avoid fights she hasn't already won. She would obviously prefer never having to deal with Loli, or even letting Loli know that she exists. This particular incident only proves her right.
>>
>>30017331
I could have sworn she had to actively stop herself from shooting at us earlier.

>>30017145
Those mercs are around, but they aren't staying in one place. Perhaps you'll meet them in your travels. Who knows?

>>30017256
There's one other character you've met so far that has the same number of hit points as Kris, but getting them on your team might prove difficult.

>>30017207
A bigger team does sound like a good idea, doesn't it? But then, how big is too big? How many loyal followers can you manage?
>>
>>30017399
>not just rushing into every bloodbath they can find.
That is what we've been doing ever since we got our asses handed to us at the crazy scientist's place though.
>>
>>30017419
You're thinking of Doggy. At least I think it was only doggy that this was mentioned for. Consider that Doggy isn't actually the kind of dog a normal person would throw hugs at instead of bullets. Wanting to shoot him is perfectly normal. Most people DO try to shoot him.

>>30017550
Four, obviously. That makes for a squad of five in total, and five is always the ideal party size. Always.

>>30017580
Sure. Right until a dog shows up and we rush off in someone else's PJs instead of taking a moment to rally the team.
>>
>>30017699
We brought guns, though. And this way, we didn't even wreck our dress.
>>
>>30017699
To be fair, the only thing the players did was follow Doggy because he had something to show us.
>>
>>30017828
That's the beautiful thing, I think. The lesson to be learned. Even when something seems completely inconsequential, being reckless can easily result in your friends getting killed. Kris is pretty badly hurt, clearly, Vasa could easily have been killed by those bandits that fortunately opted for simply capturing her, and the only thing either really did to cause it was follow Loli like good teammates would have. So basically, the Zone is a hell of a place and you should always make your preparations, even if you don't see any danger.
>>
>>30017957
Man, they were right behind us, and it's not like we would have been better protected in our cosplay or anything.
>>
>>30017957
So we always should have two knives on us?
>>
>>30018777
three

Actually knowing Herr Kaulen, four knives, a shiv and a razorblade sewn into our boots.
>>
>>30018018
>>30018777
Loli was just fine by all indications. Both Kris and Vas were very close to getting killed simply because they had no idea what was going on but tried to help anyway. That's the thing. Loli has actual team mates now, but acted as if she didn't, resulting in unintentionally putting them in harm's way. So it's not just a matter of not drawing on their strengths, but them being weakened and suffering for it.

Failing to draw on their strengths is just yet another issue that made itself apparent in this battle. Just take the poltergeist as an example. Loli may or may not have been able to murder it on her own if Kris didn't show up, but if she'd stopped for a moment to talk to her team before going in for a second shot, she would have learned exactly what that thing is and how to deal with it. Because holy shit, it turns out that we have a team member who actually knows her way around the Zone.

So yea, that's why I'd hope we can actually shape up on and try to get some teamwork going. Who knows what we could take on if we did.

Knowing their strengths is half the battle, Anon! You might just be surprised what you could learn if you just ask the right person the right questions.
>>
>>30019703
You forgot to archive Kaleun!
>>
>>30019470
You could call it nofun if you like. I think of it more as having Loli realize that someone she actually likes got hurt and that she doesn't want them to die. You know, a little like when she realized that people were running away from and/or shooting at her because that's what happens when you murder indiscriminately and it would be a better idea to pick specific people to murder so the other people will think you're cool.

But you know, that's just my opinion. Majority does still rule this quest.
