Back on Earth you escaped certain death at the hands of a rogue AI.
Now you're a wanderer, tasked with the duty of guarding the universe itself from a threat known only as "The Corruption".

When you show her the you would not be bullied, you actually managed to have a pleasant conversation.

You awaken slowly, a bit disappointed to see that you're back in your room in Hovum. Still, a slight smile creases your lips. That was a good dream. Bittersweet yes, considering how things turned out. But good nonetheless.

You roll onto your back, lost in thought. Hannah left that morning. She smiled at you as you watched her go, you tried your best to smile back. You never saw the real her after that. You wonder if maybe you could've tried a little harder to convince command to scrap the mission. You wonder if you should've just gone with her.

You let out a long sigh. There's no point in lingering on the past, and all the things you can no longer change.

Instead you get off the bed and stretch out your right arm and your back. You need to look towards the future, to the things you CAN change.

You suppose you'll start by...

>[ ] Going to a planet where a battle took place.

>[ ] Meeting up with Jax and telling him he's an asshole.

>[ ] Apologizing to Rose 'n' crew.
>>
>>30067758
apologize FOLLOWED by going to a planet. Vicky didn't seem to know any coordinates to those worlds, so maybe the Wonderful Wizard can tell us somethin'
>>
>>30067758
We should probably apologize. Storming out like that was sort of rude.

Then go learn some stuff about the war.
>>
>writing

>Vicky knows the coordinates of planets where the war has been, she got them from the book. She just doesn't know anything beyond that.
>>
You pick out one of the half crystals in your bag.

<Is this the one that links to Rose?
>It links to all of them.
<What?
>When you break a crystal off, the halves that you have fuse. That crystal is all of your currently linked calling crystals.
<Oh... So how do I use it?
>Charge it with a small amount of Aether, keep the person you're sending it to in your mind, and speak your message.

Okay, you've got this. You place the crystal on the charge port on your left palm. It glows purple after a second. You hold an image of Rose in your head and speak. "Hi Rose. I was wondering if I could come over to where you guys are. I wanted to apologie for yesterday." That's good. The crystal flickers and dies, losing its glow.

>Message sent...
<Now what?
>You wait for your message to be recieved.

What is this, telephone tag?

>Message has been recieved...
>Connection denied.
<Connection denied?
>Rose has decided not to open a thread for you to pass.

Well... That's kind of disappointing. Maybe you'll try again later, it is pretty early in the morning here. You don't actually know what time it is there.
With that out of the way, you figure you should get down to business. Propting Vicky to give you coordinates for one of the old war front planets, you punch them in and cut a rift before hopping in.

>By the way, I completed your new spell. You now have access to a healing spell.
>Seal minor wound -1 EP- Closes a single minor cut or puncture.

>You also have a new upgrade available.
>Support tank- Gives you another energy tank dedicated to support magic.
>Spell slot+1- Allows you to imprint a second spell onto your energy tanks.

<I'll take the extra tank, and start work on a base defensive spell.
>Affirmative.

Your left arm glows gold from the inside. And an indicator tells you that 6/7 of your tanks are full.
Cool.

<I don't suppose you can tell me anything about the world we're going to.
>It is known as Meyoun. A battle between the Proclamation and the Kalkarri took place here some time ago.
<Any idea who won?
>According to the book. The Proclamation did. That entry was fairly old, though. So that may have changed.

Okay, guard up. Eyes peeled. Ears out.

You emerge through the rift, sticking your landing without even stumbling. You're fairly proud of that.

Around you is a field of white... grass? No... it looks like fluff. Examining the ground you see that a grass-like plant grows all around, but it seems to fluff up like a dandelion.

The urge to roll in it is tangible. But you have other things to do.

You pull your weapon off your back and crouch low. Best not to draw attention to yourself.

Then you take a step, kicking up a cloud of small fluffy bits off of the not-grass. Walking forward, you see more and more rising through the air.

"So much for stealth." You say, abandoning your efforts to go unseen.

As you walk, you can definitely see signs of battle. "Trenches?" You say, hopping down into one.

This is definitely a trench, about 7 feet deep and 4 feet wide with a 2 foot step up on one side. You step up and peer over the edge. In the distance you can see a bunch of small-ish buildings.

And several large stone figures coming your way.

You stay inside the trench. It was meant for this sort of thing, so why not use it?

>Target lock acquired.

Good stuff. You raise your gun over the wall and fire a few shots.

And then the ground enderneath you starts to rumble. That's not a good sound...

Before you can move, the ground around you pulls inward. You suddenly find yourself quite trapped. Unable to move, and finding it a bit hard to breathe as well, you are forced to stay put and wait for the 'golems' to come close.

Thankfully it doesn't take long. Unthankfully the first one to reach you raises its stone fist, ready to give your skull a good crack.

As you brace for impact, another steps up. "Stay you hand Kekn. This one is not Kema."

The golem talks, awesome. Now let's hope the golem can be reasoned with.

"You. Whom do you serve?" It says.

Keep your cool logan. You've got this.

"I an the Void Knight. I serve the greater good." Alright, that sounded cool. Right?

The golems are still for a moment. "You are not Kema. Why are you part machine?" the one who addressed you asks.

"I had some parts replaced for... reasons." You say. Not the whole truth, but you aren't about to spew your life story to a bunch of golems.

"You were once whole?" One of the other golems asks.

"Well, yes." You're starting to get a little weirded out by this line of questioning...

"Why are you here?" The one with its fist raised asks.

"I came here to learn about the war." You say, fixing the golem with a determined stare in an attempt to look tough. Well, as tough as one can look in your position.

"And to do this you decided to simply come here?" The golem with the raised fist says.

"This war is having repercussions across the universe. I need to know more about it." You say.

"Why?"

"So I can restore peace." You say.

"Peace." The one with the raised fist says. "After all that has happened, you think there can be peace?"

"Yes." You say. Peace has to be an option. Otherwise it's mutual destruction away.

"Then you know nothing of war, child." The angry one says, walking away.

The earth around you lets go, falling back to the ground. "Do not mind Kekn. He resents his position here, but the Guut gave us this world to live on. And live on it we must, no matter how much we hunger for blood." The golem's stone skin falls off, revealing a person underneath. "I am Vrill, of the Geob."

'Vrill' is a pale grey humanoid who stands about a foot and a half taller than you. His body looks densely packed with muscle, and his face features a large, flat nose with two fairly large eyes. His head is completely hairless, and he has a very small mouth.

>Term recognized: Geob.
>Hailing from the planet Nenaeda.
>Nenaeda is also the homeworld of the Kema.

That raises more questions than it actually answers. Hopefully 'Vrill' is willing to fill in some blanks.

"So... What exactly is a Guut?" You ask, once you realize that Vicky doesn't seem to know either.

"Guut, hero. It is what we call Monthei." He says. He looks sort of... proud?

"Do you guys worship this 'Monthei'?" You ask, it doesn't seem like it. But all info you have right now pegs this guy as a god with a cult following.

"Do not insult us. Monthei is a champion to all mortals. When we were trapped under the heel of the Forger, who gave our cities to the machines and cast us into the waste. He came and liberated us. He smited the Forger and promised us new worlds where we might live." Vrill says. That's definitely a look of pride on his face. “What is your name, Void Knight? Where do you come from? I have never seen a being who replaces parts with machinery the way you have.”

“Logan Drey, I come from Earth. It’s funny that you say that, because before I came out here I had never met someone who could wrap themselves in earth like that.” You say.

“Your world is called Earth?” The other Geob asks. You had almost forgotten they were there. Now that its armor is off, you see that ‘it’ is in fact a ‘she’. She’s only a bit shorter than Vrill, and just as muscular. The only reason you can tell it’s a she is the fact that she’s got long, black hair, and a shirt. Under which you’re pretty sure there’s breasts. It’s kinda hard to tell.

“We kept things simple. Our planet is made of earth, so that is what we called it.”

>[1/?]
>>
The female laughs. “Very good Logandrey! I am Fio, matron of this clan. I have yet to meet one such as you. Tell me, how exactly do you intend to create peace?”

You shrug. “I don’t know yet. One plan would’ve been to get everyone to talk things out, but I’m starting to doubt that it’ll ever work…”

Vrill speaks. “You are correct. The Kalkarri have taken much from us, and the idea of speaking to the Kema makes me sick. Monthei freed us from the tyranny of the Forger, and he wishes to put an end to all gods. As long as I draw breath, his goal is mine.” As he says this, he puts a hand to his chest. Some kind of salute?

>[ ] Empathize. You know what it’s like living under someone’s heel.

“Do you child? Do you know the taste of the dirt? I do not think you do. I would not act so if I were you, it is insulting.” Fio says. She does look insulted, but not half as much as you.

“Yes I do. I’m not a stranger to war.” You’re having no small amount of trouble masking your anger, but you continue. “I’m not a stranger to being told by some omnipresent being that my race is no longer relevant. I know the sting of being tossed from my home and having to watch some machine take my place. Nor am I a stranger to fighting to reclaim it, and watching friends and comrades die for it.” You’re not even bothering to hide your rage at this point. “And if you belittle that again…” You swing your blade forward and point it at Fio. “I’ll cut you in two.” You say, fixing her with a glare.

“Your words speak little. But your willingness to fight speaks volumes. Lower your weapon, Logandrey. And tell me. If your planet is in such danger, why are you here and not there?” Fio says, unfazed by your threats.

>[ ] It’s not something I can handle alone.

“It’s not exactly something I can handle on my own anymore.” You say. It was out of your hands in the first place, when you had actual people to fight beside. But now... You shake your head, switching to a more productive line of thought. “Besides, I’m kind of lost.”

“So you cannot find your home, and you could not liberate it if you could.” Fio says. “A conundrum indeed. Should you find it, be sure to seek Guut out. I am certain that he would aid you, as he did for us.”

It dawns on you that Fio just suggested you bring an alien invasion to fight an evil AI. It sounds like something out of a bad action movie, but it also sounds at least somewhat plausible…

“But for now, you should leave here. We have treated with you, but the others are not likely to suffer one who is so much like the Kema within our home.”

“Hold on, you said that Monthei plans to kill all gods. Why would he do that?" You say, changing the subject. They want you to leave, you came here for answers. You’re not going anywhere until you’ve got them.

“Guut has lived under the heel of the gods. He killed the gods of his home so that his people might live freely. Now he comes to other worlds and does the same, so that we might all live in freedom.”

“So what exactly IS Monthei? Is he a god himself, or-“

“Guut is not a god. He is a mortal, like us. On his home he obtained great power so that he might kill the gods, and that is what he is.” Fio sounds insulted again. The Way Knights definitely had these guys pegged wrong.

“If I wanted to ask your leaders to aid me in taking back my world, where would I find them?” You ask, hopefully this will give you some insight into where the actual war is happening.

“We know not where Guut and his commanders are. He gave us this world so we could live, and if he needs us he will come.” She sounds proud again. They must really adore this Monthei guy.

“I don’t suppose you could tell me more about who is actually a part of this war?” You ask.

“I cannot divulge information about the Proclamation, you understand. But I would gladly tell you all I know about the Kalkarri. There are currently 3 races known to have joined them, the Tattvanae, the Kema, and the Amon.” Says Fio, listing them off on her fingers. “The Tattvanae are beings made of base elements, of fire and air and water and earth. Each one has a core made up of what they are, condensed into a solid form. If you can destroy it, you can kill them. There is no other way.” She puts down a finger. “The Kema are machine people, built by the Forger to inhabit our cities when he destroyed our culture.”

“I know about the Kema, what are the Amon?” You ask, not interested in hearing something you’ve already heard.

“Very well. The Amon are said to be children of darkness, beings born of nightmares. They follow one called Diakunai. We know very little of him, but if his children are anything to judge by…” She trails off. That one was rather self-explanatory.

Cheers for the thread OP.

I don't know why you get so few followers. Maybe it's the Euro-unfriendly hours, or maybe the romance quests have absorbed all the other questplayers. For what it's worth, I think the story and the setting has potential.

Also, is this supposed be a theme song?

I know that's what it is for me at least.
