THE SURFACE ONES, THAT'S WHO

It burns in your memory. Failed raid, metal ringing, water in the sky, all was going as it should. Then... then it came. It howled. The world howled with it, louder than sound itself, flinging you and your cadre around like mites. You must have blacked out. Where the others are, you don't know. Dead, probably. What could survive that demon?

Or rather, who besides you. There was a second group, though, followers to scavenge the dead and retrieve the wounded. Why, then, are yo-

THE SCUM LEFT YOU

You're not surprised, really. More tired than angered by the thought. You were always the outcast, half feared, half ridiculed. You struggle to remember why...

Apologies for the somewhat odd writing style, but this is really to be expected of the blind, barely sentient cave monsters. Also apologies in advance for long post times or sudden vanishings, it is kind of late over here in Avalon. Just for the record, it will be possible to undo the Falmer blindness and pick up some common later in the quest.

Gonna take that as a landslide for dwarf steampunk robots, all is as it should be.

Chitin and fungus were never yours. You always preferred the things the Slavers left behind. Metal harder than rock, wheels and tubes and bottles, fitting together, making better things. Sometimes you even listened to their pets, the scuttling of cold chitin, faster and harder than any bug. Naturally this alienated the others, who called the Slavers demons, and they named you Brass Hands in scorn. Brass. One meaning of the word is forgotten, but everyone knows the one that matters.

Feeling returns to your aching limbs, and you give a few experimental clicks. You think they have you bound in one of their carts, in a covered room large enough for maybe two of you to stand abreast. Dark, at least. That settled, your mind now turns to how to get out.

That settles it, magitech time.

Magicka. An anicent word of your kind. Nearly forgotten to those without. You suspect some study of the machines helped, their strange gems and arcane fire. You don't know much, a little fire and frost, but it is still more than unusual.

Now what? From the rattling of the cart, you suspect you're going through wild land. Fast, too. You can hear water if you strain, but it would be far. They bound your wrists and ankles, loosely, maybe, but you are still weak. No breaking them. Your head feels dull; you doubt you could manage more than a few sparks... but it may be enough, for the cart or the bonds. Or of course you could wait. But you don't like that idea. At all.

You decide you need one particular half of your name now. Flexing your fingers experimentally, breathe in, breathe out, now... focus.

Acrid smoke fills your nostrils at once. Heat, almost unbearable, flares around your hands. You already hear threads snapping. Your skin begins to sear, the pain jolting you into action as you strain the bonds as they burn and weaken. It only takes moments for them to break, even the hot, dry air of the surface soothing the burns. With that done, hands slightly numb from pain, you work to undo the legs, and as far as you can hear, no-one noticed. They continue as normal.

Step one done. You can move, at least. Now what?

It's a powerful source of magic that can be tapped into and grants the user great power and invulnerability, so I suppose it's a little like the Heart of Lorkan. Ancano was only able to be stopped because of the prodigious magicka draining effects of the staff of Magnus which could be used to close the eye and sever his connection with it.
Apparently it had enough power to unmake the world and had grown so unstable by the end of the fight that the Psijic Order had to remove it from Mundus.

The essential idea is that the cart starts to break up before it burns us to death. Also, slight action movie logic may be involved.

>>30116097
So the fire this falmer here is crouching over ( http://static3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120123094327/elderscrolls/images/3/3b/FalmerNightProwlerCC.png ), and the one in the background, have been kept burning since Dwemer times?

Granted, yes, it does now seem a little odd when usual Falmer fare is ice and lightning, but our tinkering with steam-based stuff may have influenced that.

Hello

Real helpful, guys. :V

A sudden jolt brings an end to your trance... no, you are mistaken. It's a lack of a sudden jolt. The cart rattles less, you smell less nature and more dust and distant smoke than before. You're approaching a settlement. Damn it, you were out too long. You straighten, still swaying on weak legs. Your captors already begin to slow as you gather yourself for the kind of spell you need to break out.

Two options. Either you burn your way out or break down the gateway with a frostbolt. You admit the former was your first plan, but hardly a flawless one. It would surely get you out easier, but at no small risk to yourself, and the surface ones may notice before it comes to anything. Decisions, decisions.

You need a guaranteed way out. No chancing it with frost for now. Slowly and precisely you go through the motions, building up the magicka carefully and... FLY!

The plant chitin catches fire immediately, and in mere moments the heat on your face becomes almost unbearable as you back away, hot cinders burrowing into your flesh. You suspect the entire doorway has caught, and the fire is fast spreading. Your captors have certainly noticed, as the cart lurches to a halt. Though the fire is deafening, you can tell the wood won't give out on its own for a while, and you can scarsely tell what the surface ones will do. Now comes the risky part. What next?

>Brace yourselves and bust down the door
>Try casting another firebolt
>Wait to see what the surface ones do
>Write in

Need to get out now, whatever the risk. The surface ones could be preparing to kill you, and the fire will if they don't. You put your shoulder ahead, tense and start running...

And get flung back as if you'd hit a giant spring. You heard the door flex outwards, crack a little-it's certainly weakened. But then again, so are you. You may barely have avoided dislocating your arm completely, though it will still be stiff for some time, and your skin is seared deep. Fire begins to lap at your feet, causing you to scramble up to swiftly vanishing safety. You could try that again, but now you begin to doubt how much good it will do your chances of survival. Other plans may be in order.

The falmer are actually pretty interestingly handled in Skyrim. Torches and so on don't alert them unless you're really close, and invisibility doesn't affect them, but casting muffle on yourself makes you pretty much undetectable.

So they did put forth effort...huh. Good for them. And despite Dawnguard being meh, the Falmer lore-building was THE shit.

Rolled 12

These damn dice follow anyone who even touched a Cosgrove quest.

Truely, pic related.

>you are now a Dwemer automoton
>you are awaiting the Landfall so the final attack may commence
>but until then you wait, guarding your masters home from treasure hunters
>it has been centuries and it will be many more until you are needed
>what will you do to pass the time?
How's this?

Going to use the highest roll here, because wow you guys are getting the shittiest rolls.

Need a different approach. The door has been weakened, now it could be broken with a frostbolt. Bit of a longshot because of the fire, but you suspect magic ice will hold long enough. Carefully, slowly, making sure it will hold... FIRE!

Although weaker than you expected, the bolt slams into the partly ashen door, cracking and tearing, and a waft of fresh air instantly greets you in the almost entirely burning cart. It lies across a burning floor, possibly watched by armed surface dwellers, and it will need forced open... but it's there. A way to safety.

Gonna call it a night for now, folks. Glad to see people want to see more of this, so I guess it's time to look at putting together a solid schedule. Watch the QTG.[/space]

Good deal, man. This thing has promise.

Could you perchance make a twitter account where you can put up a notice if you're running?
>>
>>30124661
>you realise you don't have a choice in what you are going to do
>you are in a pipe next to a latched doorway awaiting an intruder
>you realise in a burst of existentialism that you were created with a consciousness
>but also with a set purpose
>your masters were truly brilliant and cruel
>you come to the conclusion you have a few options
>get existential
>patrol the halls
>run diagnostics
>sit and wait for an intruder
Now this is not a quest, just seeing how it's recieved by you guys. Don't try voting, because nothing will happen.
