You are ALICE. You were once a magical girl, but have now ended up having to hunt down your former comrades. As a member of the Magical Girl Hunter Bureau, it is your job to defend humanity from the Magical Menace!

You are currently standing speechless as the genetically engineered, alien horror beast murder machine standing in front of you just suddenly morphed into young girl. Not only that, it called you MOM.

"Egan, explain. Right the fuck now." You scowl, turning to your scientist buddy.

"Well, I think it might have something to do with incorporating some of your DNA into Nemesis' gene sequences..." Egan says, still scribbling into her notebook.

"Goddamnit, Egan!" You growl as you lunge forward and start throttling her. "Why do you always do these things?!?!"

"Well, in order to make the perfect Invader, I thought it'd be good to get the DNA of our best Hunter." Egan says simply. "Plus, in order to make a humanoid form, it needs human DNA. Might as well use yours, you know?"

"I'M TOO YOUNG TO BE A MOTHER, EGAN! YOU'RE GONNA HAVE TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY!" You yell, shaking Egan around more.

"Don't worry, Nemesis is fully developed." Egan says, not even trying to pry your hands off her neck. "Heck, just think of her as a little sister, or something. Besides, I thought you would have liked the idea of having a superpowered sidekick ready to carry out your bidding."

"...yeah, when you put it that way, that's actually kinda cool." You concede, relaxing your grip. "But if you pull that shit without telling me again, I'm tossing you out of the airlock."

"Noted." Egan nods. "Would you like to meet her?"

>I'd better talk to Bruttenholm first.
>Sure, assuming she doesn't eat me.

First and foremost, since Nemesis was only wearing her chitin armour and is probably butt naked right now, we should give her a towel or something.
How should we bond with Nemesis? The only thing I can think of is to show her what life is like "outside", show her what we're protecting. Show her that because the world is ugly, it is beautiful.
Also, if we are going to be interacting with her from now on, we should give her a real name. Nemesis is fine in missions as a code name, but she needs to be called something else outside of the mission.

We have an Alice, so how about Louise Carol?

It kind of makes sense why Nemesis was able to determine that Alice was her "mother". Since the sample used to create Nemesis was most likely from Alice, she must have sensed magical energy that was similar to her own. This would also suggest that every MG has their own unique "magic signature". Hell, if most newborn animals are able to identify their mother on based scent alone, this should be possible.

"Sure, assuming she doesn't eat me." You grumble.

"Ah, that's the genius of it. Invaders are instinctually programmed not to attack anything that shares their DNA. Since Nemesis has quite a bit of human DNA mixed into her, she's not predisposed to attacking humans."

"I see.." You nod. "What else should I know about her?"

"We gave her mutagenic properties, similar to the higher level Invaders we had faced before. This would give her more adaptability to fighting a wider range of threats, though I never knew she's be able to use that ability to take on human form...."

"Your in depth knowledge of what Nemesis is capable is oh so comforting." You sigh.

You and Egan then exit the observation deck and move on down to the experiment chamber. You see Nemesis take a look at herself and the humans around her. Realizing she's naked, Nemesis closes her eyes and black fluid begins leaking out from her body, eventually forming a simple dress.

"Interesting, she can even use her mutagenic capabilities to generate clothing..." You hear Egan mumble.

Nemesis then turns and sees you enter the chamber. In the blink of an eye, she's suddenly across the room and locking you in a very, very, VERY tight hug.

"MOM!" She squeals, nuzzling her head against your cheeks.

Meanwhile your not-quite healed ribs scream in pain.

"Oh, I see you're suffering from minor internal injuries. I'm so sorry!" Nemesis breaks off the hug and boys her head in shame. "Sorry, Mom!"

You're... you're not sure how to respond.

Your first instinct is to correct Nemesis, but now that you think about it, you actually don't mind at all being called "Mom". It was actually kinda of... endearing in a way.

And suggested that maybe you weren't such a terrible excuse for a human being after all.

"It's all right." You say, instinctively patting Nemesis on the head. "Oh right, this here is Egan. She's your daddy."

"DADDY!" Nemesis grins and bear hugs Ega. Oh, revenge was so sweet.

Now that you think about it, Nemesis was quite a mouthful to say, and in all honestly wasn't exactly something you would want to keep saying in public. Maybe you should give her a more natural sounding name. It seems that Nemesis was impressionable enough to roll with whatever you suggested.

Well, that was easy.

"To be expected, considering how long you were in stasis." Egan nods. "We have some cows in the next chamber over."

"Well, Neme- Carol has an extremely high metabolism and needs a large amount of calories to power her mutagenic abilities." Egan explains. "There's ship prepped to take you back to the Freedom Star. We'll bring N- Carol over once we're done."

"Nah, I can handle it." You say.

"All right." Egan nods and hands you a poncho and safety goggles. "Just in case."

Egan then guilds you to the adjacent chamber, where you see two cows just sort of milling about.

"All right, Carol, have at it." Egan says.

You suddenly see a change in behavior in Carol as she suddenly starts leaking more of that black fluid from her body, which hardens into the carapace you'd seen before, now locked in a permanent, predatory grin. Tendrils sprout from all parts of her body, wrapping up the cow and lifting it up in the air. The tendrils then begin to cycle rapidly, like some freakish, biological blender as it shears the cow apart in pieces. Meanwhile, Carol uses her arms to rip off choice bits of meat and cram them down her gullet.

Blood and fleshy bits spatters literally everywhere, staining your poncho and goggles. You casually wipe the blood off.

Yeah, you were seriously going to have to teach Carol table manners at some point.

However, even though she was rather messy, Carol was nothing but a thorough eater. She quickly devours both cows completely, not even leaving any bones behind.

"She has a highly robust and efficient digestive system." Egan explains. "Nothing is wasted."

Finally, Carol morphs back to her human form. She pats her stomach and burps loudly.

"Full!"

"Carol." You sigh walking forward and wiping a bit of blood off her lip. "When you burp like that, you have to say 'excuse me', all right? It's rude if you don't."

"S-sorry!" Carol bows her head. "I'll remember next time!"

"I'm sure you will." You nod, patting Carol on the head again.

God, it was getting kind of addicting.

"Okay, we should probably be heading back to the Freedom Star." You sigh. "I'm pretty sure Bruttenholm is going to want a debrief."

"Uh huh." Egan nods and and then pokes you. "Leo has also been particularly worried about you, too."

"W-what's that suppose to mean?" You blink.

"I dunno, I was just pointing it out. Interesting reaction, though." Egan shrugs.

Goddamit, Egan.

You, Carol, and Egan make your way to the Prison Star's hangar deck, where a shuttle is waiting for you. You all board and the ship lazily takes off.

"OOOOOOH!" Carol squeals as she plasters her face against the viewport. "That's Earth, isn't it?!"

"Yes it is, Carol."

"And that's Australia, right?" She says, pointing.

"Australia is on the other side of the planet." You point out.

"Oh..."

It's then that the shuttle starts pulling away from the Prison Star that you can actually get a good look at it. Man, you never liked the damn thing.

"Really? Why don't you just eat them?" Carol cocks her head curiously.

"No, most people don't eat the same things you do." You sigh. "Plus, not ALL Magical Girls are bad...."

"Huh, I guess that makes sense. You're sorta like one, too."

"You can tell?" You blink.

"Of course! I can SMELL the magic emanating from you. But, you're my mommy so I don't care!"

Huh, interesting. You decide to just continue the lecture.

"Anyways, Magical Girls, even without their magic items, are still considered too dangerous to keep on our headquarters, the Freedom Star, so we built a separate space station to hold them. If anything goes wrong, it's designed to immediately vent all its occupants out into space. Even Magical Girls need to breathe, after all."

"Huh..." Carol then turns to Egan. "Hey Daddy, do I need to breathe?"

"Technically, yes. But I'm pretty sure you can develop methods of surviving in low or no oxygen environments." Egan shrugs.

"Cool!"

You can't help but shake your head and grin. Carol was definitely an odd one. Finally, after about half an hour, the shuttle finally docks with the Freedom Star. Waiting for you on the hangar deck is Leo.

"So... what exactly-"

"Egan created Carol by splicing my DNA with an Invader to create some shapeshifting alien horror murdermachine without my consent."

"Ah." Leo nods. "Sounds like something Egan would do."

You and Leo walk all the way to Bruttenholm's office. Carol skips along just behind the both of you, constantly getting distracted by everything shiny she sees, and it's a bit of a chore continually keeping her focused. God, you really are starting to feel like a goddamn mother!

Finally, you reach Bruttenholm's office.

"I'll wait for you outside." Leo says. "Maybe Carol should, too?"

"Sure thing." Leo nods.

"I'll see you later, Mom!" Carol waves.

"I am NEVER getting used to that...." You hear Leo sigh right before the door closes behind you. You can't help but grin.

"Ah, Alice, it's good to see up and about!" Bruttenholm smiles warmly. "Ever since Mary's warnings that her magic was losing its effect on you, can understand my worry when we had to ship you back to her..."

"I'm fine, sir." You sigh.

"All right, now tell me everything that happened. From your perspective."

It's then that you recount everything that happened, from the beginning of your "vacation" to the MGs attack on the lab complex. You also tell Bruttenholm about Carol.

"Hm, yes, Egan mentioned it to me before she arrived." Bruttenholm nods. "It's rather surprising... and concerning. Initially Nemesis -I mean- Carol was supposed to be assigned to you. You don't know why, but the though of other people taking Carol away from just made you really, REALLY fucking angry. "In either case, I don't think you'd be able to force Carol to work with anybody else, anyways."

"True." Bruttenholm nods. "We'll just assign her to you for now, as intended. Now, onto other matters, there is the artificial magic compound you injected yourself at the end of the mission..."

"...yeah, I actually don't remember much after that. What happened?"

"According to eyewitness reports and surveillance footage, you materialized your old magical weapons and completely obliterated your opponent, as well as a good chunk of the facility. You then fell unconscious and we had you shipped up to the Prison Star for emergency treatment."

"Any side effects?" You ask nervously.

"Nothing permanent, at least nothing we could detect." Bruttenholm shakes his head. "Now, have you been experiencing anything odd? Out of place?"

"Sir, I actually have something to admit." I've been having more interactions with Loki, and I'm starting to believe more and more that he's real in some way.

"Really now?" Bruttenholm frowns and leans forward. "Tell me more."

You then tell him about the deal you made with Loki to cheat Fate, as well his offer to return more of your powers after you took the Companion Juice. Bruttenholm's frown grows ever deeper.

"This is very serious, Alice." He says grimly. "This would suggest that Loki has found a way to live inside your psyche, and he's already apparently demonstrated an ability to affect you and the physical world. This could be potentially disastrous if it progresses further."

"That was sort of what I was thinking, too." You nod. "Are you going to tell the Council?"

"No, we shouldn't. " Bruttenholm shakes his head. "They've already heard of your reaction to the Companion compound and are in an uproar about it. Further production and research into that item has been put under more oversight."

"I see..." You sigh.

"I think you need a vacation. A real one, this time, away from the Bureau." Bruttenholm says. "But, if you really desire it, we can put you back on duty. However, you squad still hasn't returned, so you would have to be temporarily attached to one of the other squads."

"Sure, I got nothing better to do." Leo shrugs.

You open the door to allow Carol to enter. She leaps in and hugs you again. Man, you REALLY needed to teach her about personal space.

"Hey, Mom, who's the old guy?" Carol asks, pointing to Bruttenholm. To his credit, he doesn't seem bothered by the rude statement.

"That 'old man', is Grandpa Bruttenholm!" You say. "And don't call people like him 'old man', they really don't like that."

"Okay!" Carol nods rapidly. "Hi Grandpa!"

This time, your prescient enough to grab Carol by the collar before she can tackle hug Bruttenholm. You doubt the poor old man would even survive it.

"It's nice to see you too, Carol." Bruttenholm grins. "I hope you and Alice here will grow to be a very effective team."

"But we already are!" Carol pouts.

"Maybe you are." Bruttenholm chuckles.

With that, you say your farewells to Bruttenholm.

Well, you really didn't want to, but you knew you had to at some point, so you might as well get it out of the way. You decide to show Carol the Trophy Room. The Trophy Room was where you kept all of the magical items you collected from slain or captured MGs. "Transforming Elements" or "Magical Foci" or whatever people decided to call them, they were stored here. They they weren't dangerous on their own, and were pretty much useless once the MG they were connected was killed, the items were still put in secure storage nonetheless. Better not to take any chances.

After hitting the lock combination and passing the retinal exam, the giant vault door that led to the Trophy Room slowly pulled itself open. Inside was like a little girls' room. Lots of items that wouldn't be out of place in the possession of a preteen girl, like makeup tools, compacts, wands, necklaces, rings, and all sorts of things. However, there was the occasional oddball item, like a katana. Seriously, who the fuck would use something as obvious as a katana as their transforming element? Then you remembered that she was an absolutely crazy bitch, even before the War.

"Ooooooh, I can FEEL the residual magic in here." Carol says as she sniffs the air. "How many trophies are there?"

And then "I just want them to surrender. I don't like killing them." And then we sniffle slightly, curse the air filters, and show our daughter the armory. Gun safety never starts too early.

Each one of these represents one of my sister, so I guess they would make them you Aunties. But they are kinda like your evil Aunties, but kinda not really. A lot of them were former friends, I knew them before the war. I just wanted to show you this because, fighting is not always easy for me. I know I'm always weaker than them at all times, but also sometimes it's hard to kill my old friends and sisters, and sometimes you have to be nice and patient with Mommy.

"Is that it?" Carol blinks.

"I don't really like this room." You admit.

You decide to show Carol the armory next. She probably didn't even need to use guns, but you thought it was best she learned how to, anyways.

"Yo, Heph!" You say, waving to your favorite armorer.

"Alice! You're alive!" Heph grins and then sees Carol. "Huh, I thought you didn't like taking rookies."

"Yeah well, this is Carol, and she's uh, kinda m daughter."

"What?" Heph blinks.

"Long story." Both you and Leo say.

"Okay, I guess I'll take your word for it..." Heph frowns. "What do ya need?"

"Well, I was thinking of giving Carol a crash course in gun use and safety." You say.

"Aw, sure thing! I'm always willing to help a fellow person take advantage of her god given right to own as many guns as they want!" Heph nods. "So, Carol, what do you prefer, .50 cal, .45 ACP, or 9mm?"

"Ummm, which one's the most killy?" Carol asks.

"Ha! I like her already!" Heph chuckles. "Well, for regular folks. 45 would suit you just fine ,but since we're mostly fighting Magical Girls we have to rely on the .50..."

You kind of lost track of the time as Heph teaches Carol about the finer intricacies and politics behind certain weapon calibers and bullet sizes until you check your watch again and realize that that your transport is scheduled to leave in a couple of hours. Man, where the fuck did the time go?

You probably only had time to show Carol one more section of Freedom Star, You'd have to show her the rest later.

"You seriously convinced Carol that Egan is her father?" Leo blink.s

"It's technically true. She was the one who engineered her, after all."

"You do have a point, but still..."

"Eh, leave it up to the philosophers to figure it out." You wave him off.

There, you see Egan busy at work. She looks up to see Carol dive through the door and tackle hug her again.

"Hi Daddy!"

"Oh dear, I might have to develop countermeasures against this." Egan mutters.

"Hey, Egan." You greet your scientist buddy. "Got anything new in the works?"

"Just cataloging the stuff that we had to bring back up from the lab." Egan shrugs. "Oh right, here's the Goo Gun. I made sure to recover it for you."

"Don't you want to come with us?"

"Sorry, but I'm too busy cleaning up the mess resulting form the attack on the lab."

"Ah..., but what if something happens with Carol?"

"We implanted a chip at the base of her skull that relays her location and vital signs to us. If anything happens, we'll be there."

"Oh... wait, you chipped Carol?"

"I don't know what that means, but it sounds cool!" Carol chirps.

"No, no it's not. I'll explain later." You sigh. "What about the Companion Juice?"

"She only needs to eat large amounts of food if she's used her combat abilities excessively or hasn't eaten for a prolonged period of time." Egan explains. "Otherwise, she can sustain herself perfectly well off normal human food, though she will still have a slightly larger than average appetite."

"Well, here's to hoping they have a buffet." You sigh. "Anyways, I'll see you in a week then, Egan."
