Notes on Rolls and Voting:

When I request rolls, each set of three rolls counts for one action. For example, a two-step plan would take the first 6 linked rolls. A particularly bad failure can interrupt a string of actions.

When rolling 1d100, I will consider criticals within the first ten linked rolls. Only criticals that occur in the first three rolls will be counted as "supercrits". This is still the case even if you'd have plan long enough to require more than ten rolls.

When rolling 1d20, the rules are the same, but I only consider criticals for the first five rolls, rather than ten. Criticals in the first three are still "supercrits".

When a plot choice results in extensive debate, I'll try to weed out the most popular trains of thought, and then call a vote on them. When voting, please respond with only a link back to the post and the number corresponding to your opinion. Other votes are discounted, including those with dice rolls or extra spaces.

Finally, note that this is not a democracy; it is a benevolent dictatorship.

Arland Summit Summary: Goals, Objectives, and Major Characters (thanks to Sorry for helping me and the players out!):

http://pastebin.com/FsP2C5Hr
-----

Your gathered allies have arrived in Arland, a war council set to gather their combined forces to face the demons and mages of Kan-Abar.

Donovan's second oldest brother, Matthel, has also been friendly and supportive. You also met with Hemmelus, the Four-Element Sage and Donovan's teacher. He's pledged to assist you in removing the Shel'kath from Donovan's soul, and is in favor of your alliance.

Dinner has been an interesting affair. You met the Lord Imil Anderson, a jovial, portly man. He was impressed with Joey's story, and with his own lands directly threatened by the demons, was quick to support your alliance.

Conversation with Gerald, the eldest and heir, did not end well; you're not sure if there's anything you can say to change his mind, at the moment, especially after Yi Fang's insults. His wife, Andrea, seems quite friendly, and she has been conversational with both you and Abigail.

Harvan Flint was a tough nut to crack, and you thought you would lose him, but managed to get him to reconsider the situation. He's gone to speak with Donovan in private.

You briefly spoke with Arcturis Flint, Donovan's father and Lord of Arland. A blunt, brusque man, he seems unwilling to budge on his position. However, you earned his attention by mentioning your trip to Xile, and urging him to ask Donovan about the details.

"You know, I like you, John," Arcturis says. "You're not trying to trick me into anything. But what you haven't done is give me a reason to give a damn about anything that spouts out of your mouth."

"Don't take my word for it," you say. "Talk to Donovan."

"What a safe and easy answer, John Nyx. My son has been away for six years, and while he's finally risen above the level of a complete and total failure he's got a long way to go before he has my ear upon demand."

"I'm sure you'll pay better attention when he tells you about our trip to Xile."

The area around you falls silent. The dancing music from across the room drifts over you. The Arland nobles stare at you.

Arcturis leans forward. "...what did you say?"

You produce a coin from the small stash you keep in your pocket, which you imagine is as good as producing one from your sleeve. You take the few steps to the Lord of Arland and offer the coin to him. "Stamped with Aeolus's form."

He takes the coin from you, lifts it up. It glints in the light. The profile of a dragon's head is raised slightly off the surface of the gold.

"...how did you do it?"

"You'll have to ask Donovan. It's his story to tell." You give him a deep bow from your waist. "My lord. Respectfully, I believe your words, 'above the level of a complete and total failure' are a gross understatement."

You back away, still facing him, and then turn when you're at a polite distance and walk off. Auriel flashes a quick smirk at you. You take that as a good thing. You slide through the wall of nobles, ignoring the gazes.

Yi Fang and Duke Vellik are standing not far outside the group. Vellik purses his lips and nods. "Not bad. Wouldn't you say so, archmage?"

"A fine assessment, my dearest duke. He's starting to get good at this. Makes an old lich nervous."

"We all must leave the nest at some point."

"Quite." Fang raises an eyebrow. "You know, I get the distinct feeling that Arcturis doesn't particularly care for me."

"Nonsense. He's just being a little gruff."

"You're probably right."

You look at the two of them, unsure of whether to smile or frown. You see Great Tree and Hemmelus behind them, near the buffet, talking - though you can't hear them over the music and the babble of conversation.

Shadow Quest is my favorite quest because Anons have fucked up enough times that everyone actually slows down and takes time and analyzes shit instead of kneejerk voting like what happens in so many quests nowadays.

The only Quest that is on the level of shadow quest in thought out plans is A.I. Quest, and they still have plenty of stupid ideas, though they rarely act on hem.

You continue past Fang and Vellik, ignoring the smug looks. You glance around and find Donovan and Harvan in conversation in a far corner. <Donovan, I just let your father know we've been to Xile.> Donovan's head snaps up, finds your eyes. <You might get called over again soon. I think you'll have a lot of leverage with that.>

Donovan visibly flinches. Harvan just looks confused. Sure enough, Gerald himself is sent from Arcturis's group to collect his brother, and they rejoin him on the raised section away from the dance floor.

You head toward Hemmelus and Great Tree. They both nod at your arrival.

"John," Hemmelus says. He smiles. "I hope you've had the dumplings."

"I had a few while talking with Joey. Yi Fang was right."

Great Tree folds his arms behind his back. "I believe I like that young man. He has a sort of...easy-going practicality, if I had to put it into words. A casual comfort with his surroundings."

You have to admit that Great Tree has a point. You would have thought that Joey would be more intimidated by this sort of setting - you're a bit nervous yourself - but it seems he's the kind of person that adapts rapidly.

"You're right. He's very flexible."

Hemmelus sighs. "Must be nice, being young. Anyway, John, what's on your mind?"

>What are your thoughts on the alliance? Are the nobles swayed at all?

"What are your thoughts on the alliance, Hemmelus? Has anyone made up their minds?"

"You've had a very good start," he said. "Joey really captured a few imaginations, and Lord Anderson's good faith brings with it many of knights and other northerners. But Gerald remains your largest obstacle. I doubt you can change his mind, John."

"I think I've come close to giving up."

"Mmm. Your energy is best spent elsewhere. I'm surprised, though. I think Harvan is giving it all some serious thought."

"Maybe I said the right thing."

"He's not a very family-oriented person," Hemmelus says. "He's married to his work. But I wonder if you know about his fiance?"

"...no. I don't."

"She is - or, maybe, was - a Kanian. They exchanged letters even after the time Obis was driven out, though once open hostilities with Kelvere began, communication ceased. He puts that aside for Arland."

Your opinion on Harvan shifts once more. He really is a difficult man to read. "I don't understand. If his fiance is in Kan-Abar, wouldn't he want to fight for her?"

"Not every man is driven by his passions," Great Tree says. "Some put the greater good above their own desires. From one point of view, that is the cold, callous decision. But consider what Harvan has sacrificed to protect Arland, and perhaps his hesitation to part with the Ring City becomes clear. He sees victory without you, and so considers joining you yet another risk for his country and his own personal matters."

"...it seems everyone has a lot of reasons to do what they do."

"Well," Hemmelus says, chuckling, "we're all human, aren't we?"

You smirk. Yes. All except you. You're more straightforward than they are, really. You're monochromatic. And you like it that way.

"People are too complex, at times."

"Such is life." Hemmelus shrugs. "Well, Matthel seems to stand with his younger brother, so you have two of four. Lord Waterford is a great friend of the Ring City - he'll block Arland's southlands from your influence. Arland seems to be somewhat split."

"...and what about you?"

"Me?" Hemmelus asks. "Well...I'll tell Arcturis what I think is best, but he rarely listens to me in matters other than magic. I'm a mage, not a general, after all. Though I suppose I might have some sway over a few people here and there."

"What do you think is best?"

"Well, I like that young lady you seem to be so fond of, Abigail. It's hard to put faith in anyone from Archon, but if I had to pick one, it would be her."

"I'm glad to hear you say so."

There's a pretty noisy commotion from the raised section of the dias. Donovan's story is being met with quite aplomb. You're not sure if it's good or bad.

Across the room are Ila, Lord Anderson, and Young Bull, Great Tree's grandson. Young Bull appears to be speaking with Anderson while Ila listens.

The dancing seems to be winding down. The party won't go on too much longer.

There is no way he didn't play us up like a motherfucker.

Arcturius probably believes we're as strong as the Black Lady by now.

Speaking of which, When are we introducing her? i was under the impression that we were going to do it in the middle of the party but apparently not. So it should be soon. Or is there going to be a sort of sit around the fire and chat session after the party?
>>
>>30179694

Hey SM, question about the Archonium.

Is the Aging thing that Abby went through standard for mages who go through it, or was it a thing particular to Abby?
>>
>>30179725
>>30179757

Fenway Fudge, plebs
>>
>>30179767
The biggest problem with our alliance is Archon. And since no one is going to trust Fang it's all on Abby to make people want to trust Archon. Checking up on her and seeing if there's anything we can do to help her out is a good thing since the public opinion of her is going to be a major deciding factor in this working out.
>>
>>30179847
I think it was usually a few years
>>
>>30179847
Standard. Abby was in it longer than normal, though.
>>
>>30179847

Usually 3-7 years. Abigail's 11 years is unprecedented, but her youth upon entering was also unprecedented.
>>
>>30179850
>SM is a Red Sox fan

>>
>>30179791
The point of having Flint tell Arcturis about Xile was to make him look more competent to his father and the other Arlanders. Playing us up only makes him look humble, so hopefully that's enough.

>>30179815
Until we decide and notify Fang with our decision the choice is in his hands.

Some ideas from last time were having her arrive on her own as a concerned party incognito, or having the two act against each other a bit to alleviate paranoia, nothing really striking as a sure fire advantage.

Yes, we did anon. We've left it up to him when it's best for the Black Lady to arrive. He told us he'd use his best judgement, too.

Okay, this helps me with creating a fake backstory when people inquire. A self taught Shadow Mage who wandered across the South.

Whenever someone messes up and calls us Shad or Shadow, we say that was the name people used to call us. After going through the Archonium, we adopted the name John Nyx.

How old do we look at the moment? I'm thinking late teens, early twenties.

"Have either of you seen Abigail?"

"I believe she's outside," Great Tree says, indicating the balcony.

You give them both a small bow, then head out the open windows onto the balcony. It's a half-circle overlooking a long garden that runs the length of one wall of the castle. It isn't much to look at now, still being brown and covered in snow in places, but it isn't so crowded, and the night air feels good after spending so long in the room.

Hmm. It's actually barely cold at all. You focus slightly, and sense a small Wind spell holding a bubble of heated air over the deck. That explains why the ballroom wasn't freezing.

Steward is standing alone at the end of the balcony. He's facing the outer wall, looking up at the stars, seemingly deep in thought.

Abigail, Freja, and a few other nobles are talking in a group at one end of the balcony. As you approach, they begin to disperse. You get a few considering looks as they pass by. Abigail and Freja wait where they are once they spot you.

"Ladies."

"John," Freja says. "Enjoying yourself?"

"Well, I suppose," you say. "There's too much going on for me to relax."

Abigail heaves a sigh. "At least I'm not the only one."

"You two should loosen up a bit. Have some wine."

"I've already had three glasses," Abigail says.

"Have another."

"I think that's plenty for one night."

"Honestly, Abby," Freja says, "how to you expect to seduce -"

Abigail blushes as she slaps Freja in the arm. "That was in confidence!"

"It's not like it's a secret. Besides - "

"What about you and Obis?"

Freja's slight smile turns ugly. "I haven't forgiven him for being a thoughtless oaf quite yet."

"He's probably just a little stressed," you say. "He's got a country to reclaim, and not much to his name aside from our help."

"...I'm just..." Freja sags. "...he doesn't care about anything but her. I...maybe he really doesn't want me."

"Freja," Abigail says, "I know...how Obis feels, I think."

Freja turns toward Abigail, a little curiosity breaking through the sadness. "...you do?"

"...I...was alone, without the people I cared about...the people I loved. For a long time. I would have done anything to have them back. Go to any lengths. You and Obis...it would be as if Sir Flint suddenly began to try and court me. He just isn't that person. I've already...got someone. It isn't that I dislike Sir Flint, or that he isn't someone wonderful and worthy of affection, but...he's someone else. Do you see what I'm saying?"

"...so I get shafted because I came in second," Freja says. "It isn't fair."

"It isn't. But would you really feel the same about Obis if he was the kind of man that did otherwise?"

Freja is quiet for a long time. "You're absolutely right, of course," she says. "I just don't want to accept it." She moves around you, heading back for the windows to the party. Her hair hides her face as she turns away. "I'll see you both inside."

You watch her go, and then, aside from Steward on the other end, the balcony is empty. Abigail leans against the stone railing and sighs. "...it had to be said."

"I don't like seeing Freja upset, but you gave her good advice."

"I hope so." Her hand finds your wrist. You take her fingers in yours. She gives them a firm squeeze, then rubs them slightly, as if testing for something. "...still real, Shadow."

Agreed, It kinda goes off of the same principle that you don't ask a girl if she likes what your doing/ask her what to do while having sex. You're supposed to be confident and please her, or in this case soothe her fears.

They want you to know this shit instinctively.

"Weirder than anything we've seen together?"

"...well, it's up there."

"Abby," you say. "You can trust me."

Abigail fidgets with your sleeve. Her feet work on the stone. She stares at her feet.

You're about to encourage her again when it blurts out of her. "ImadeyouintheArchonium."

"...what?"

"...I...imagined up...a version of you, when I was in there," she says. Her face is still directed toward the floor of the balcony. "You. And Sir Flint. And Auriel, and Adavan, and Joey. And...even my uncle. You were all there...after I was empress. When I was eleven. I...I didn't do it on purpose. You just showed up one day. I...made you. I'm sorry. It's...it was wrong. I mean, I couldn't really replace you, I shouldn't have done that. I...please don't think less of me, Shadow. I just...I was so lonely, I - "

"...that's all?" you say. "That's the weird thing?"

"Um...yeah."

"Well..." you shrug. "I mean, I don't really blame you. Night and moon, you were eleven years old. It's only natural that you wanted companionship."

"Oh." She looks up at you. She rubs the back of her hand against her eyes. "I...was afraid of how you'd react."

"Well...you know everything that happened with me, in there," you say. "I think it would be hypocritical if I had much of a reaction."

"Heh...yeah, I guess."

"That place isn't right. It preys on what we want. Or what we're afraid we want. But Abby, I'd never blame you for that." You frown thoughtfully. "But that doesn't really explain how you can tell...this is real."

"In there...we traveled together," she says. "Those were my memories. Traveling with Adavan. Traveling with you, around Archon. People larger than life, my uncle, Auriel...but...I knew something was wrong. It was off. But I couldn't place it.

"When I turned fifteen, it came over me all at once. It was my birthday, and I was sitting on my throne...and you sort of bounded into the room, and looked up at me, and...I won't forget those words. 'Abby! Let's go on an adventure!' Ugh." She shakes her head, as if disgusted. "You were...a caricature of the real you. All of you were. The child-memory version of yourselves. And I felt this revulsion come over me, and I balled up, and cried, and told you to go away. And when I looked up again, you were gone. And you and the rest never came back. Oh." He rubs her hand against her eyes again, harder. "I'll ruin my makeup if...if I..."

You take her in your arms. "Abby. I'm not going anywhere. I promise."

She wraps her arms around yours, and her good hand squeezes your back, holding her close. She manages to keep her composure. There's so much pressure on her, but this incredible uncertainty is boiling below a calm exterior. You don't know how she does it.

"...but I figured it out," she says. And there's a note of triumph in her voice. "I beat that damn thing."

"...how?"

"Well, for one, you don't -bounce-." She puts an emphasis on that word, almost spitting it. "You glide, like a shadow. But there's another thing. You're...grainy." Her fingers pinch a bit of illusioned cloth on your back and rub it together. "The other you was...like rubber. Stretchy. You feel different. That's the difference between that place...and reality."

"I'm glad you figured it out. I didn't realize I was grainy. Is that bad?"

"Mmm..." She pushes her face into your chest. "...nope."

You don't really know how long you stand there, but you wish it was longer.

"We should get back to the party, at some point."

A nice Strong and Gentel Slow dance with her leaning into us.
>>
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crNbOL3Wuyc

"Would you like to dance?" you ask.

"...I'd love to."

And music from the hall begins again, a slower song. The violin is lonely, drifting atop the harpsichord that plucks away in a peaceful, almost sad rhythm. You begin to pull Abigail toward the entrance to the balcony.

"...no. Not inside." You turn back. She steps up to you. "I don't want to be around everyone. Just you and me." She smiles over your shoulder. "I think we can forget Steward this once."

"...heh."

You take her good hand in yours, and pull her close. She leans against you, her other arm tucked behind your back. And you sway to the music, matching easy, simple steps to the tune.

In the end, you drift to a stop, and she leans against you, silent. "That was a sad song," she says. "But I sort of liked it."

"Is that so?"

She nods against your chest. "Sometimes the world is sad. But that's part of why it's beautiful, right?"

"...maybe."

The music from the room doesn't start again. Apparently that was the last song. The evening is going to start winding down, now, and then real negotiations will begin with the power players.

You place a hand on Abigail's chin, draw her head up, and kiss her on the lips, gently, slowly. She leans up and into it, wrapping a hand behind your neck. And suddenly, it's not a very gently kiss, but hot, and deep, and wild.

And then she's back on her heels, and you're both breathing very hard. Abigail swallows. "Um...let's...uh, go talk to Steward."

"Yeah. Let's."

You wander over to the shiny steel construct. He's still facing the stars, unmoving. "Steward?"

He rotates to face you with a surprising speed. "John Nyx. Abigail Fang. Greetings."

"Have you been here the whole time?"

"Yes."

"Uh...why?"

"Listening," Steward says. A small spherical repair droid lands on his shoulder. Some seamless compartment unfolds, and the droid vanishes, tucked within. The compartment clacks closed. "And gathering information. Based on our analysis, we conclude that 63% of the nobles at the party favor an alliance with our group. Public opinion aligns even more greatly in our favor, at nearly 93%."

"That's amazing!" Abigail exclaims. "We can really get this done!"

"However, this is negated by the fact that the men which will make the decision are very unlikely to rule in our favor," he continues. "And though opinion favors us, the vast majority will follow the Lord Flint's decision, trusting in his better judgement."

"I'm not sure it's very 'better'," you mumble.

"I would agree with that assessment." He cocks his head slightly. "We don't have much time, but perhaps I can be informative. Is there anything in particular you'd like to know?"

You think rapidly.

>>30182132

"Who are the most influential nobles among those who support the alliance?"

"Imil Anderson, Matthel Flint, and Harvan Flint."

"Do you know what Gerald Flint has said to the other nobles? Spreading any rumors?"

"Not much about you, in particular," Steward says. "He does not know much about you. But he has emphasized the negative factors surrounding the Archmage."

"Are there any representatives from the Empire here?"

"None other than minor nobles from near the border. The most notable of them would be Gerald Flint's wife, Andrea."

"What about nobles against us? What can we do to change their minds?"

"I do not believe Gerald's mind can be changed," Steward says. "Andrea would have to put enormous pressure on him, but I do not believe that he cares for her to such an extent as to allow that to occur. In fact, I noticed him in pursuit of courtship behavior with several other women, as if he was not already in a permanent relationship. She is a placeholder."

Abigail seems taken aback. "...are you sure, Steward?"

"He belittled her to another woman, one of Lord Waterford's cousins, and implied as much."

"...that bastard," Abigail mutters. "And to think I have to suck up to him."

"Could we use that as leverage against him?" you ask.

"We have no real proof he actually said it," Abigail says. "And it's like Steward says. If that's how things are, then he won't really care about pressure from her."

>con't
>>
>>30182591

>>
"The other major force against you is Arcturis himself, and the Lord Prule Waterford. Waterford is most likely to respond to material gain or threats of force, but the latter may backfire within our sensitive context. Arcturis remains an enigma."

"...you can't read him?"

"He appears to be overly confident in the Empire of Light with no logical basis," Steward says. "I conclude that there are variables of which we are still unaware."

"Like what?"

"I do not know."

You frown in thought. "Have you heard the term shel'kath or parasite used anywhere?"

"Briefly between the Archmage and the Sage, Hemmelus. No others mentioned it."

"John, Abby. Steward." Donovan is walking toward you from the exit to the balcony. "Here you are. The party's all but finished." He rubs his hands. "I shook more hands with people on the way out than I have in the rest of my life at these things. Usually I just stayed out of the way."

"Is it time?"

"Yeah," Donovan says. "Everyone's gathering together. My father and brothers are going to meet us in one of the audience chambers. Come on."

You walk with him back into the ballroom. Servants are already clearing the space, hauling away the remains of the food and beginning to clear the decorations. You walk through it, out into the hall, and down into a smaller room, where the rest of your alliance is waiting.

>con't
>>
Everyone looks up as you come in. Most are standing against the walls; a few people are seated in chairs.

"Just a moment," Fang says. He closes his eyes for a few moments, and then opens them. "...alright. It is safe to speak. They aren't listening."

"Did you expect them to?"

"I always expect anything I'd do myself," he says.

Steward turns to you. "I could attempt to have a droid listen in on the Flints," he says. "I'm sure they are preparing themselves for our meeting."

"Better yet," Vellik says, "You could go yourself, John."

"I must say that I disapprove of the notion," Valeria states. "It undermines the reason we're here."

"I don't like it much myself," Donovan says. "My family might not agree with us, but they won't hide their opinions."

Yong Xu peels himself up off the wall. The young councilor raises an eyebrow at Donovan. "That's all well and noble, but we need all advantages on the table. Or do you deny that we are in the weaker position?"

"Well..." Donovan sighs, defeated in logic, but unwilling to condone it.

Note that Venia's moon is not as large as our moon.

But there's really more to it than that. How does Venia exist at all, in the first place? How does it have an atmosphere? How are there people on it?

The answer to most of these questions is magic, but the answer to a goodly number of them is actually things you've yet to gain any perspective on. So they'll have to wait.

You turn to Xu. "Look at it practically, councilor. It's not worth the risk. The advantages of hearing Arcturis rant about something prior to the meeting are vastly outweighed by what will happen if the Four-Element Sage detects one of Steward's drones. Or me."

"I have to agree," Abigail says. "It's a needless act that puts the whole alliance in peril."

"And beyond that, it's morally objectionable," Great Tree adds. "I don't want us spying on anyone."

He already knows that we pretty much looted the place because A). its common sense and we gave him a gold coin. B). Flint is decked out in armor, cloak, and sword from there.

Plus it is kinda expected for us too. But definitely don't mention the airship

I call it Nemesis, it uses both wind and shadow to do amazing things. Kinda like how Arland and Haven could together. I'm not sure why it was there, maybe the last of the shadow and wind mages built it to try and escape the windsever. All I know is it took a liking to me

It plays a fucking pivotal role in our strategy for attacking the Kanians ionce we get this alliance under way. How the fuck do you expect to avoid talking about it? It's a major military asset, it's something they should know about.

You reeeaally think we'd let them have it? A thought crossed your brain where in we had to give the ship over for the alliance? This is extremely silly.

We've told him that we need Arland's support. He might use that against us.

"Let's talk leverage," you say. "Get everyone on the same page."

"Well," Vellik says. "I have a few things on my end. Technology, for one. I don't want to give up my advantages, but if it means taking my country back..."

"...I, too, could offer something, if we are pressed," Steward says.

"If we combine our knowledge, we could very well create a functional dynamo," Vellik says to Steward. "That would bring us untold advantages."

"Recreating the housing would be extremely difficult," Steward says. "I am uncertain as to how such material density was created in the first place. It vastly exceeds even Adamantium."

"Of course, there's a few taxes I could shift about," Abigail says. "Vischon has always been of use to control the trade up and down the Tairns."

"Changes that the council will approve, of course," Yong Xu says loudly.

"Of course, conciliator."

"Our military assets are part of the equation, too," councilor Tae Wong adds. "Increasing our...contribution...might sway them into participation. If they knew Archon would take more than its fair share of the brunt."

"What about Xile?" you ask Donovan. "What do they know, after your story?"

Donovan shrugs. "It's infested with the remains of the elementomachy and will take a great deal of time and probably blood to recover. But that it is there, we can access it, and that it can be recovered."

"And," Auriel adds, "that Haven controls that access."

I was saying if it really came down to it, we could remove Arcturus and replace him with Donovan, as an absolute last resort.

Vaz Grak steps forward. "Enough of what we will give," he says. "What of what we want? As warleader, I will demand their recognition. If we are to spill our blood, then I will demand that Abbotsford is included in our territories."

"You'll be debating with the Empire over that one," Blackwater says. "They probably won't want to give you an outpost on the Palorian. That's where the adamantium comes down..."

"Then they will have to take it back from us by force."

"...warleader," Valeria says, "let us move in small steps. I will support a bid for your recognition, but such a claim may have to be negotiated beyond what Arland is capable of doing. Are you willing to make those same demands of the Most High?"

"...I am," he says firmly. "If the coward grows a spine and shows up."

"Well, in honesty," the elf continues, "we would as well enjoy official recognition."

"From Arland," Young Bull says. He stares at Yi Fang. "And from Archon, especially."

"From Archon, too!" Vaz Grak grunts.

"At ease, my fellows," Fang says. "You shall have your borders on the map once we're finished drawing."

"And what does Archon want?" Vaz Grak says. "What is the Archmage scheming this time?"

Everyone looks at Yi Fang. He picks at his fingernails. "Honestly, everyone always thinks I'm planning something." He glances up, grinning. "They do tend to be correct. But rest assured, in exchange for aiding Kelvere and Kan-Abar in their time of need..." His eyes roll over Vellik and Obis. "We would, of course, be interested in the manufacture of dynamos."

"Of course," Vellik says. You can tell it kills him to say the words, but he doesn't have much choice.

Well, it seems there's a lot going on. Do you add anything in particular?

Just because it's an unreasonable demand to acquiesce to doesn't mean the Ring City won't make it regardless.

That said, if negotiations REALLY break down to the extent that people know what we really are (the blob dude that Yi Fang turned over to Sandalphon), we can always just let them know that it didn't work out so well the first time they demanded we be given into their custody.

And then see if we've got a smug enough face in our repertoire to sell it as Sandalphon loses his cool.

While the others continue to debate, you find a moment with Auriel. <I meant to ask you. Are you still going to try your...uh...Melody plan?>

"I don't see why not," she murmurs. "For once in my life, I have a card in my hand that Fang can't possibly predict. It will keep him from doing anything he shouldn't. But I suppose it depends on when you plan on bringing her in."

<Still working on that.> You turn back to Fang, and project your words to him. <What of the Black Lady?>

<I don't think I'll be introducing her on the first night,> he says to you. He doesn't meet your eyes, unwilling to give away that he's speaking with you. <We are pressed, but I still expect this to take some time. Don't give up too much too quickly, Shadow. Let them worry, let them fuss.>

<Alright.>

"Everyone, comes Abigail's voice.

Conversation comes to a halt. All eyes fall on her.

"I know that we all come from different places," she says, "and that we all bear our own burdens. But today - this is it. This is the moment we've worked for. The time that we come together. We are the leaders of the world. This is our time to change it. To shape it. Make it something better. I'm glad you're here. All of you. Because I think that tomorrow, and the day after, and the day after that - we'll have created real change."

A quiet and humble acceptance meets her words. Yi Fang smiles at his niece. Proud, for a moment. And then the expression leaves him.

You can't imagine how he'll react when he learns that the Black Lady is Melody.

It is only a few minutes until one of the citadel's stewards comes knocking at the door. He guides you into a large audience chamber a floor above. A long, wide table has been set in the room, running alongside tapestries and several maps hanging on the wall. One is of the entirety of Venia; another depicts the local region of Arland, Archon, and the Empire of Light. Another focuses specifically on Arland, and the edge of the surrounding countries. A fourth encompasses the southern half of Venia, the northern cutoff at about halfway through Kelvere.

The Flint family is already seated. Arturis is at the head of the table; Gerald is at his right hand. Lord Anderson and Lord Waterford are next to Harvan and Matthel. Yi Fang sits at the opposite end of the table, and everyone else arranges themselves around him. The surface is large enough to allow everyone space, but small enough that a loud voice could be easily heard from the other side.

Arcturis leans his elbows onto the table. "So. You wanted to talk, Archon. Forest Den. Haven. Here I am. What have you to say?"

There's been plenty of info that says this thing is fucking huge. Certainly not just a tugger.

All I'm saying is that you could have just went, "oh, I guess I mixed up my info" or just calmly accepted the correction and not posted at all. You're a magical buoy floating in the docks of Xul'Akathanka-Togologologle Victruilius. It is your terrible and heavy burden to direct the flow of ships and assist them in avoiding the nearby shoals.

If that sounds fun, I think it would make a nice break.

>>30184468

Yeah, I know. There was no way to get that information to you.

>>30184479

Now that you have Steward's help, not too difficult at all. The problem is getting it a dynamo.

>>30184493

A lot, but you need raw ore to make the titan. I believe it's canon that while adamantium can be reforged/reshaped it cannot be repurposed in a magical sense.
>>
>>30184493
not enough because
>>30184506
but that doesn't mean we couldn't pocket it and use it later
>Shdaow! we need to stop those troops from advancing!
<I've got a plan> drops airship on them
>....God dammit Shadow
>>
>>30184529
It's not like we didn't earn it though.
>>
>>30184530
so we'd need at least enough adamantium that it'd take to build an airship?

Or we could repair it.

>>30184530
So we are going to get Steward, Vellik, and Fang all working together to start putting out Cores for us to fill.
>>
>>30184530
I like the idea of that quest simply for the potential of disaster.

I wonder what kind of things a buoy thinks about?
>>
>>30184553
No, only 1000lbs

1000lbs of metal would fit in the back of a medium sized pick up truck.
>>
>>30184553
We need half of a Ton.

Most Cars weigh several Tons. An Airship is much much much bigger than a car.
>>
>>30184553

A Heartstone Titan doesn't take nearly as much adamantium as an airship. An airship is several dozens or even hundreds of tons of adamantium.

For reference, adamantium is several times stronger than steel, and slightly lighter. However, it isn't as flexible, and more prone to shattering when it exceeds its load-bearing capacities.

>Daily Log #1639578 My nose still itches, but I was built with no arms to scratch it. It occurs to me I may not have a nose installed either, this requires additional quandary
>>
>>30184616
hmm, so if Shade is about 6ft, what would the Titan be? About the size of that earth golem Flint fought in Jacob's Field or bigger?
>>
>>30184586
>FUCKING SEAGULLS.
>>
>>30184618

As I posted in the QTG:

A splatter of white excrement stains your beautiful red paint.

The seagulls are back, and they're shitting all over you! Again! Fuck! It took three rainstorms to wash the last attack off.

You have no choice but to:

>completely and utterly ignore them. They're beneath you. Well, above you. It matters not. But they don't deserve your attention.
>FIRE THE LIGHTNING
>use your warning bell to signal for backup

For some reason I feel that a buoy lends itself to being a narcissistic megalomaniac.
>>
>>30184643
I assumed the size of the thing we fought in Tarun Gakth. But it feels like that thing would have weighed a lot more than a half of a Ton.

Can we get some Dimensions?

But 2-3 stories seems reasonable.

Instant Jaeger.

In a furious rage you channel forward the lightning. Blue sparks crackle across your surface. A glowing orb of power spins atop your clanging pinnacle.

In a burst of magic, a lightning bolt zips through the sky and strikes a bird. It drops like a stone, crisped and black. You fire again, and again, and the birds drop like flies.

"HA!" you shout. "DIE YOU FUCKING RATS WITH WINGS! DIE!!"

In short order, the bulk of the seagulls have retreated. A dozen scorched corpses float in the seawaters around you, some slowly beginning to sink.

A strange thought comes to mind. You don't have a mouth, so how are you able to -

MRRRRUUUUUOOOOMMMMMM

...what the fuck was that?

MEEEEIIIIRRRRRUUUUOOOOAAAAMMMMM
