As Ned Salter, we work in the XWF, the Extreme Warfare Federation, to bring about the most popular pay-per-view event in the story of the solar system.

Superpowered human beings beating the daylights out of each other in wholesome family entertainment bring about billions being made every week out of souvenirs alone.

Managing a stable of fighters, a music group, a reality show and a videogame company is not a easy job, but if it was easy, anyone would do it.

Also, while playing Endless Space, I got this event and thought of Ned

Anyway, I tried to be early today. Let me know when you are here

Very Ned.

Also, hi.

Questions
1) How quickly can we use Qui Meng to boost Ned's Quantum? Getting him to the point where he could use a Power Shutdown Technique is probably a priority, since it represents the best way for him to equalise any dangerous Nova-related situation.
2) How's Python been doing on his quest for Taint-Removal-Fu? Has he managed to reduce it, yet? I'm tempted to try and writefag the story, but I'm worried it'd be a bit of a generic kung fu tale.

You guys okay? i started the thread pretty early.

Im looking for the exp cost table for Qi Meng but cant find it. Found the right book, but cant find the table.

I remember there was one, just cant find it,

Alright I read the whole Qi Meng thing again and couldnt find any tables.

It comes out like this, tho. Once you start learning Qi Meng, you cant raise your Quantum over 5 without learning the technique "Climbing the Mountain of Heaven" (5 exp cost) at a cost of (Quantum Rating x 16) exp points. But you dont get permanent taint when you do.

You also cant raise your node over 2 without using the "Node Reconfiguration Technique" (which sosts 1 exp to learn) at a cost of (Node Rating x 4) exp points, but you dont get Taint from doing so.

Lowering your Taint requires the "Purge Permanent Taint" technique, which costs 5 exp to learn. Using it cost no exp, but it takes 90 days of meditation and rest each time you use it. At the end of the 90 days, you roll Meditation + Wits and need 3 successes. If you get them, you lower your Taint by 1, permanently.

So Python cant further raise his Quantum except by paying (Current Quantum x 16) now, but when he does he does not get any new Taint.

There are no other special costs, so Ned, Brass and Python would continue to buy everything else as first Gen novas (cost-wise)

<--- Check image for reference
>>
>>30189297
So, Ned can raise his quantum now, but you need to remember that we are trying to do things at story-speed, so cant just "poof!" pay the exp and end up with Quantum 5, suddenly. We need to explain it story wise as he going to take lessons with Lyann regularly, meditating, doing his excercises, going to Mai, going to the Quantum Labs (if you want to buy a new power), etc.
>>
>>30189404
Also, the lyrics for this made me think of Aura AND Euphry. Fast forward to 2:05 in the song. For some reason it has a REALLY long intro

http://youtu.be/aXVEvWuD_64?t=2m5s
>>
>>30189404

Got it. Story speed it is.

Was there actually a Qi Meng 'disrupt quantum, shut down powers' technique, or were we going to refluff the Nerf Bat ability to be related to it?
>>
>>30189474
Yes, Qi Meng includes pressure point strikes, and one new "Secret Pressure Point" technique. Using it takes a Medicine roll at +2 difficulty (basically substract/ignore the first 2 successes on the roll) vs the target's node. For each success you beat their node with, you shut them down for 1 turn.

They cant use quantum or enhancements or anything. I think we should learn Tai Chi qith Mai (since its the parent technique of Qi Meng and they complement eachother, AND many Qi Meng techniques need you to know Tai Chi) since she teaches at superspeed, and pressure points strike is one of the Tai Chi technique. Then we can learn the new "secret pressure point" with Lyann later since we already understand the idea (know the pressure point strike thanks to Mai). It would just be faster, in-character
>>
Anyway it seems everyone got here super late. Should we try to get something done or just discuss (and) level up ned? I could finally get to do his sheet properly
>>
>>30189655

Levelling up sounds good.

Points into Tai Chi (with pressure point strikes) and Qui Meng.

Possibly Dampen Quantum Signature power/technique because it suits Ned not to actually register as a Superior.

Would it be excessive to boost Ned's deal-making skills (Biz, Negotiate, etc) even further? Or is the cost just ridiculous?
>>
>>30189731
Alright lets see...
Tai Chi 3 exp (for the 1st dot)
-- Pressure Point Strike 5exp (includes a menu of disabling blows. Leave people blind, deaf, paralyzed, etc)
Qi Meng 3 exp (ditto)
--Secret Pressure Point (3 exp)

That's 14 exp on martial arts
>>30189731
>Would it be excessive to boost Ned's deal-making skills (Biz, Negotiate, etc) even further? Or is the cost just ridiculous?

Let me check...
>>
>>30189837

Ranks in Medicine to make Secret Pressure Point work better - At least 2 dots (because that puts it into Ned's INT vs Enemy Node) maybe more
>>
>>30189837
Need the Dormancy Background. Its 2 exp x current dot, so the first two dots would be 2 exp each
* 2xp
** 2xp
*** 4xp
**** 6xp
***** 8xp

Could speak to Mai about wanting to keep your novadom a secret so she gets you started into that. Again, story speed. We can get the first dot now and then mention he keeps training with her to raise it (slowly)
>>
>>30189976
1st dot in medicine would be 3 points, and each dot after that is (current number of dots x2) exp points.

So 3, say... 5, for 2 dots. Lets say it takes Ned a month to get some basic medicine knowledge. First aids, some basic stuff... actually 2 weeks would be appropriate for the first dot I think, since we are training on pressure points at the same time and I feel they overlap

So lets see...
4 exp for Dormancy to 2 dots
14 exp on martial arts
5 exp on medicine
16 exp for Quantum 3

39 points so far. I will spend the rest to raise his stats and mega stats and have the sheet by tomorrow's start of the thread.

I'll go have lunch now and see you guys tomorrow. Hopefully we'll be able to start early/on time?

Just want to say as the lead dev on the Trinity Continuum, it's delightful to see this thread persist for so long.

I consider dormancy to be useless, as it shuts down our mental defenses when we use it, so we can't use it around the one guy we probably want to hide from. Also, we already know that at least one prominent Teregen member is aware we are a nova. As for the martial arts, Ned isn't a fighter and spending lots of XP to try to turn him into one is a terrible idea. I'd much rather spend the XP to raise our mega social attributes and related skills.
>>
>>30190136

We're nothing if not a stubborn bunch here in /xwf/

>>30190153

What's objectionable? There's been a longstanding plan to get Ned to a point where he could handle himself in a Nova fight, and absent an extra 30 Nova Points, being able to deactivate an opponent's powers is possibly the best way to do that.

>Feds come for Bomber Lord
>He tries to run, aims to knock Ned out of the way
>Ned calmly exhales a cloud of strawberry cigar smoke, steps aside, and uses Dangerous Forbidden Technique #34 to swing the Nerf Bat on the Terrigen scum
>He's temporarily crippled, Brass comes over and suplexes him into oblivion
>GoodEnd.jpg
>>
>>30190303

Argument against Dormancy noted and considered. Shutting down Ned's powers wholesale isn't ideal, as it sounds like we'd lose Mega Attributes too. I was thinking more of a Perception Filter type thing
>>
>>30190313
>What's objectionable? There's been a longstanding plan to get Ned to a point where he could handle himself in a Nova fight, and absent an extra 30 Nova Points, being able to deactivate an opponent's powers is possibly the best way to do that.

You are talking about Dawn, right? she doesn't give a Damn. You are just "some guy" for her. I cant think of a reason she would go out of her way and talk to Bomber Lord to tell him you are.

Teragen is not a solid group, its just a lot of people sharing the name.

Also learning Qi Meng isint to make him into a fighter, its to let him raise Quantum to 3+ since he cant do it otherwise.

But your point about hiding his nova status somehow else is good. Suggestions?

>>30190353
Yeah, that sounds good. Ideas?

>>30190313
>We're nothing if not a stubborn bunch
Speak for yourself, I'm also funny and super sexy
>>
>>30190438
Oh, I don't want to hide his status at all. I just thing that the way Eric went about it both wasteful of XP and detrimental to our well being. I don't want to buy pressure point or secret pressure point.
>>

>>Feds come for Bomber Lord
>>He tries to run, aims to knock Ned out of the way

>He can no longer use his active powers. He still has all his mega attributes and is not stunned.
>Ned dies horribly
That's in the unlikely event that we actually hit the guy.
>>
>>30190381

One of the first things Ned learned after becoming Superior was combat techniques from Mai. Basic stuff, but practical in case a fight broke out.

There's been talk about finding ways to shut down other Nova's powers since partway through Season 1 (again, right around the time Ned underwent the process), precisely because it would be an equaliser, but all the powers that could do it were way beyond Ned's power level.

This isn't about turning Ned into an XWF fighter in his own right; This is about him going Xanatos style and having a backup plan, as befits a man who, as mentioned, is basically Mr Satan in a world of Saiyans
>>
>>30190438

I have no idea how you'd do a Perception Filter in Aberrant. Maybe something psychic, but those usually require quantum expenditure to keep them active, don't they?
>>
>>30190585
see >>30190570
Your plan will not work. We simply will not have the dice to be effective against anyone. Furthermore, I do not think it an effective allocation of resources even if we could do it in a somewhat practical fashion.
>>
>>30190486
I love story telling, so this is going to be very uncharacteristic of me, but... we do have almost 230 exp saved up since I havent actually updated him since we started the quest thread back in december 2012. I think we can spare 14 exp on a "luxury" thing just for the fluff, even if we don't ever use it.

Besides, is not about making him a powerhouse, is about making him able to defend himself "just fine". And we had been talking about shutting down other novas since like March of last year, IIRC
>>
>>30190658
I thought we had like 60 XP. Anyway, I suppose its acceptible if and only if we can get quantum to 3, and mega wits and every mega social to 4 first.
>>
>>30190570

>Not allowing for Bomber's pathological fear of fire

Which is why cigar. Again, Ned having a plan up his sleeve. Which is the point.

>>30190658

We spent a load of XP alongside our Nova Points when Ned went Superior, didn't we?
>>
>>30190692

Oh, I took that into account. We still die horribly.

nah, we have 235 exp (to be exact). I never really updated his sheet, just kept mental note of "at some point we used SOME exp to give him mega wits 3"

I mean, pic related is his sheet as I have it. This does not include raising his stats, nor substracting the exp from it.
>>
>>30190692
>We spent a load of XP alongside our Nova Points when Ned went Superior, didn't we?

see
>>30190749

I never actually spent them, tho. This is his sheet at the moment he turned superior. Haven't spent a single exp yet, just kept mental track "he has mega wits 3"
>>
>>30190767

BONANZA!

Dump points into Mega Social and Mega Wits, maybe a smidge of Mega Int.

Then Qui Meng/Tai Chil for that sweet Quantum boost. I really think we can afford some Pressure Points and Medicine as an Ace in the Hole.

Then mental defences... Also, way back in time, we mooted the idea of Ned having a short-range teleport power for getting out of trouble...
>>
>>30190889
Im replying slowly cause im cooking. So standing up to check on the kitchen a lotm then will be eating

A new dot of mega anything is 6 exp points
Each point after the first is (5 x current dots) so lets see...

Mega wits 3 is
6
5
10
---
21 points
Martial arts is 14 points
---
35 points
mega charisma or mega appearance or what?
>>
>>30190749

I'm now remembering from last year, when we figured out it was better value to use our Nova points to boost Ned's regular Attributes, rather than his Mega ones
>>
>>30191086

Mega Wits 4, for an extra 15 XP
5xp for Medicine

Total spent: 50
Mega Manipulate up to 3. Don't need Mega Appearance, it's a giveaway, and Mega Charisma isn't so useful for dealing. 6 points for Mega Intelligence 1 seems fair.

And now, I have to go. See You guys tomorrow.

Did we pay for the Natural Empath power out of Nova Points?
>>
>>30191388
>Mega Wits 4

Back from lunch.

Cant raise mega anything to 4+ before getting 3 points on Quantum, since mega attributes are limited to (Current Quantum + 1) and ((Equal or lower than) Normal Attribute) so would need to raise Quantum to 3 first. That would be 12 exp

So in >>30191086 we have 35 points already, plus 12 to get Quantum 3
----
47 exp
...and +15 for the 4th mega wits dot
----
62 exp so far
+5exp for 2 dots on medicine
-----
67
+2 mega manipulation is +5 and +10 so +15exp
-----
82 exp so far
+6 for 1 dot on mega intelligence
-----
88 exp so far

When you get your first mega attribute point on any given attribute, it comes with a free enhancement, btw.

And honestly I dont remember but I -think- Natural empath is a mega enhancement we got for free from taking a point on mega wits
