Welcome to Academy city. The time is early morning, the weather is fine and the date is July 21.

You are Kyril Torikov, a Level 2 Telekinetic Child Error and your sleep has just been interrupted. As far as interruptions go it isn’t altogether unpleasant. Just someone knocking at your door anyway. You’ve had more than a good night’s sleep though given what happened yesterday. It seemed like the whole thing went by like a breeze. You had awoken, downloaded the Level Upper, saw your teacher and found out in a bit of a roundabout way the one responsible for the affair. It wasn’t a confession though you still have a copy of the conversation on your phone.

The knocking on the door isn’t getting any quieter and if it weren’t the start of summer vacation then you’d get up anyway. But questions ran through your mind as you groggily got up. Who the hell was knocking at your door? And was it really that important that it couldn’t be left alone for another five minutes or sixty? You’re a bit sleepy so you just answer the door.

Standing at your door is a teenage girl?

“Young sir I require your assistance.”

>Yeah sure, let’s go.
>Nope, back to bed.
>Demand an explanation
>>
Voting is 10 minutes, write-ins are encouraged and will be integrated as smoothly as possible
Rolls will be 1d20, counting best of first three rolls, 1s and 20s are crit fails and successes respectively and take precedence. Counter rolls will be made if necessary.

“Right, let’s go before a line starts forming behind you,” you answer sleepily.

She gives you a funny look before speaking,

“Very well we shall depart now.”

Grabbing your arm, she drags you away from your dorms. Part way through the whole journey your mind wakes up and you remember to introduce yourself.

“Er, I’m Kyril Torikov, who might you be?”

“Kanzaki Kaori,” she replies curtly.

You’re still moving fast and are headed to one of the more secluded districts, the one with the railway freight terminal. The destination was a warehouse. It didn’t look to be in use since it was empty but it was in no means completely run down or anything. You also finally notice that Kanzaki is carrying a really long stick or was it a sword of some kind? Either way she stops at one end of the warehouse where a small chair and rope lay. You’re still in your sleep wear and have no personal effects on you.

“Please have a seat,” she says cordially.

Mental faculties at one hundred percent now, you gaze around you. There’s a chairs, there’s some rope, and she looks banging. If it weren’t for the morning wood, she doesn’t seem to mind it, you’d think she was kidnapping you and holding you for ransom. The only other logical explanation was this was one of those dreams and you’re actually asleep. Still it was better to err on the side of caution.

“While you're forced to stand? That'd be rude. How can I help you, Miss Kanzaki?”

She seems to ponder how to best explain her need for you.

“I am not sure there is a way for me to put this gently so I shall be blunt. I am hunting the most dangerous game and I need bait. You may help me by sitting down in that chair.”

“Is there a reason I’ve been volunteered?”

“Yes. You were quite involved with my quarry, even if you don’t seem to recall.”

“My memory was modified?”

“I am no expert but it seems to be that way. It is the best conjecture I came up with through divination. Now if you would be so kind, please have a seat.”

There you had it. You were being dragged in to something that you didn’t seem to recall. Now you’re live bait.

If anything, she was polite so you didn’t want to push it. However you still had priorities and damn were you hungry. You’re a growing boy after all.

“So, have any breakfast lying about? If I’m going to be bait I’d like to at least have one last meal.”

“I suppose that is acceptable. While I am away acquiring breakfast, I would appreciate it if you stayed within the building and be seated once I return. If you do leave, I will know and I will be less accommodating.”

With that Kanzaki leaves. If it were anywhere else you’d probably think she was a terrible hostage taker. In certain areas she still is, but then again you weren’t an expert at hostage taking. She must have confidence in herself and her abilities if she was leaving you unsupervised here anyway.

There was the chair. It was standing there but you feel as if there’s something weird about it. Seriously, this chair. Around you there were other odds and ends. A metal rod here or there, stray planks and some broken glass as well as the piece of rope were lying about. The ceiling is a bit high up but you expected that of a warehouse but there are some metal girders up there.

Drape the rope over the girders with TK and sit in the chair.

Well there you weren’t going to sit in the chair just because some hot lady told you. If you did you’d be easily taken advantage of. Moving the rope that you suspect will be used to tie you to the chair up in to the girders, you make sure to secure it up there by tying it up in there. It isn’t exactly easy but it was certainly easier than that stupid Columbus Egg exercise. The next thing you do is smash some glass to create an improvised shank that you slip up your sleeve. In the event that you would get tied up you’d have some way of freeing yourself.

You’re still up and about when Kanzaki returns with some takeout. As it so happened there was a curry restaurant that opened really early up and she was able to acquire some. Though she didn’t say it, she seemed displeased that you didn’t sit in the chair by the time she returned. Breakfast was relatively silent but afterward you didn’t really have any excuses to make so you obediently sit on the chair.

That was when you felt your body become constricted by near invisible monofilament razor wire. It wasn’t cutting you too bad but it was uncomfortable.

“Please bear with it for a moment,” she apologises calmly.

Oh the rope was a trap alright. The chair was a red herring.

Would you like to switch perspective?

The wait is long and the wait is boring. Kanzaki has ceased to be a conversation partner and has wandered around, moving her arms about as if casting a spell. She’s probably doing something with her wires you surmise. So that was where her confidence came from. It wasn’t exactly dark in the building but she managed to conceal steel wires around the place. You really didn’t see it coming but if anything it’d just take you longer to cut through the wires.

You reckon it the time is now noon, the weather is sweltering hot and the date remains unchanged. That is when Kanzaki perks up as if something was headed this way. If anything you were getting rather tired of sitting on a chair. The one that enters is a young girl, wearing a blue-white school uniform. You think it’s one of those middle schools. Around her right arm is the Judgement armband.

“This is why do not like your kind Anglican,” she greets Kanzaki.

“I would say the same of your savagery Sikh,” Kanzaki retorts.

Her attention is away from you and from the way the younger girl is looking in your direction, you surmise she has a plan.

With her attention taken away from you, it is now that you slip out your impromptu cutting implement and start sawing away at the wires. It’s slow going but you remain silent so as to not attract attention. You really hope that you were just some bystander to what is shaping up to be a private dispute between women. You’re also pretty sure the middle school girl was not your ex as far as you can remember but memory manipulation was involved so who knew how much you lost?

“If you were any less ignorant you would be perfectly aware that there was no need to shackle the Index so,” the Sikh seemed smug.

“Do not meddle in our affairs savage,” Kanzaki warns, “You do not know what you’re talking about.”

Bringing her sword around, it was a nodachi, she unsheathed it just a bit. In between the click of it returning to her scabbard, you could see something whip through the air before it stopped and dissipated in front of the Sikh. Held in her hand was a dagger that seemingly shielded her from attack. Kanzaki merely snorted before intoning,

“Salvare000, be the salvation of those that cannot be saved.”

“Vajra108, I am the lightning that dispels ignorance and illuminates the dark.”

You’re free.

>>30218807
I'm guessing it's because leaving basically wastes all the time we've spent this thread, and announcing that we're there is even more retarded. It's a shame we didn't get a "wait-and-see" option.
>>
>>30218905
Did you specify which die was for which action? Were you actually rolling for two separate actions? What does any of that have to do with checking for the highest?
>>
>>30218954

I say first roll to do X. Second to do Y. Next guy does the same only with different actions. Then another guy does the same each one a different roll. After that it's not a stretch to claim that since there is three 2 pairs we should take the highest since it is two rolls either way.

Unless that second roll only counts for the second action called unlike the normal first rolls. In that case it is a free roll that would let someone look at the action ahead then vote for that vote just for the assurance that the second roll is high thus we know something would get done. Then discard the other 2 rolls because it isn't' called for the selected action.

In this case, we'd end up with one roll each for U, V, X, W, Y, and Z. These rolls would only count if the action they called for reached the plurality/majority. It is a huge stretch to claim that a roll for U would ever count for W. We've done multiple rolls simultaneously for concurrent actions before, and it worked fine.

>Unless that second roll only counts for the second action called unlike the normal first rolls
A roll only ever counts for what it's rolled for.

We always have the ability to decide not to do something after seeing what the rolls were like. Rolling multiple dice at once changes nothing.

It is a frightening thing you must admit. To see them go at each other with live blades and at the speed they were fighting. You are barely able to follow them with your eyes. Kanzaki, as you’ve suspected, was always attacking at unique angles with the multiple wires. However her sword is also tangled somewhere in that melee. The Sikh, unlike Kanzaki, doesn’t stay in place for long. She weaves in and out of the gaps between attacks her knife trailing behind her. Whatever Abilities being used here, it was suicide to even try to interpose yourself physically between them. Thankfully you have Telekinesis to do that for you.

You had to get Kanzaki for tying you up and using you as bait for that crazy Sikh girl after all. It’s a solid you note and it does little but draw her attention. Seven wires descend immediate upon you but before they reach you hear the Sikh call out,

“Embrace eternity.”

The wires are stuck in mid air and so is your immediate area. Your mind goes blank save for a bunch of images that flash through your mind. The surge is painful, as if something had been accumulating before letting loose.

You’re aware of yourself convulsing as if struck by an electric stun gun and falling to the ground. Someone of course is dragging you away from the battle but your eyes are firmly fixed on the Sikh whose left hand is no longer attached to her arm as well as a silver bangle. In her teeth she bites down on her dagger and holds the stumps with her other hand. Her eyes are sharp and defiant.

“I see, a limited imposition of the concept of Eternity,” Kanzaki notes as he nodachi is finally fully unsheathed, “It is how you prevented him from remembering and stilled my wires.”

The Sikh’s hand glows and you can smell burning flesh. Was she cauterising her wound? Kanzaki only steps in to deliver the coup de grace but she fails as the Sikh’s dagger was able to block the blow but not for long.

It is there that you remember. Remember who she was, what her name was, what she did to you and what she did to that black robed punk. Then again she saved you from Kanzaki’s wires which no doubt would have killed you.

> It is a huge stretch to claim that a roll for U would ever count for W.

In that case then why are we taking the highest of the first three rolls? Instead of just the roll from the called for action? So far we have always taken the highest roll applied to the winning action.

In the case that each roll only counts for what it's called for then it's not hard to just think of three-four random actions to roll for that could be useful. Roll each then decide based on which one gets closer to 20.

Didn't think I was playing with a twelve year old.
>>
>>30220116
So rolling multiple dice does nothing, because we can change our answer depending on the dice results regardless.

Rolling high guarantees nothing. We got an 18 to attack Kanzaki, and it didn't do a damn thing. Not that it should've done anything. Saint stronk.

There were more votes with a targetless punch than votes punching Kanzaki. There were more votes for running than votes for punching Kanzaki.
>>
>>30220133

Eh, Not all that bad so far. We could have escaped most likely but everyone went for attacking. The only real railroady thing was sitting in the chair even though it was pretty obvious we would avoid that no matter what.

Other then that everything seems to have logically progressed into something possible.
>>
>>30220243
I would argue that deliberately leaving out information that we should have counts as railroading. Kanzaki is absurdly distinctive. Even IC, it doesn't make sense for Kyril to see her and just think "oh a teenaged girl."
>>
>>30220218

The biggest change is it gives us two chances to get something done instead of just one. Sure we can change normally but 6 shots is better in general then 3. Mainly just because that second option can help the situation even if the first falls on its face.

“You know, if you'd just told me she was the one that scrambled my memories rather than wrapping me in monofilament, I'd probably be one a different side in this fight!” you manage to shout at Kanzaki.

She doesn’t reply choosing to ignore you and continue trying to kill her opponent. Mustering your will again, you telekinetically lift her shirt up over her face. Once again, surprised by that brief moment, the Sikh, whose name you remember as Kaoru, takes advantage and slides away from the descending sword. Kanzaki merely rips free of her shirt only to find Kaoru tacking her to the ground, her dagger in her heart. Or it should have been.

“That’s not enough to kill me,” she says despite the discomfort of having a dagger in chest.

“No, but it’s enough to stall you,” Kaoru replies and turns to you, or rather the one pulling you, “Kamijou, hurry up and get him out of here. Remember the plan.”

Kamijou? That Kamjiou? You hurriedly snap your head in his direction. You recognise the unlucky sod with his uniform, his spiky hair and his determined expression. You make to stand up and despite the difficulty in doing so, you manage.

meta gaming
>>
>>30220679

Yeah, but he also has no idea how horribly out-classed he is. That OP put it as an option means that it's a rational option for Kyril to take.
>>
>>30220745
I think he should figure out how outclassed he is rather quickly considering Kanzaki has a knife in her heart and doesn't seem to be all that concerned.
>>

>>30220735
The idea that we can't hurt Kanzaki regardless of what we do is metagaming. So you're claiming that the biggest problem with these kinds of quests is meta-gaming in response to meta-gaming.

I've always thought the pathological need to insert as many characters from canon into the quest or the prevalence for using characters from other franchises as new characters were bigger issues.
>>

He can see the saint is moving faster then sound given her base speed. That and he can also see there is a Indian chick who just said getting her heart stabbed was a slight deterrent.

He can move objects with his mind. This couldn't be more obvious as something not to fuck around with.

“You’re right. We have to break up that fight, but how?”

Her knife is struggling against Kanzaki who’s still alive for some reason.

“No, don’t answer that question,” she continues, “Kamijou, help me hold her down, Torikov get me my Kara.”

Quickly Kamijou rushes to her and assists. Kanzaki struggles less but is still trying to wrench the knife out of her heart. You assume the Kara is her bangle that was cut off from her left hand and hurriedly retrieve it for Kaoru.

“Alright, when I start speaking again you put her hand in mine alright” she instructs Kamijou as she holds the bangle with her pinky, with his nod she speaks again, “Embrace eternity.”

Kamijou lets go and the two of them still save for their heads. Kanzaki looks furious for a moment but then she sighs and her face reverts to a cool mask. Kaoru is stiff as well but at least her face is calmer.

“I have a name and it’s Kanzaki Kaori,” the Anglican huffs, “I was sent here to secure the Index and make sure it is safe.”

“Safe? She got slashed in the back by a sword. Was it you?” Kamijou accused.

“To my eternal regret.”

“Well that’s an Anglican for you, shoot first, ask questions later,” Kaoru snipes.

“And you?” you asked Kaoru.

“I am duty-bound to protect the innocent and those who cannot protect themselves. It is because the Anglicans were planning on using violence on you and Kamijou that I intervened.”

“Doesn’t explain the memory wipe though.”

“I will not apologise for that. The secrecy of magic must be maintained. It was that or killing you.”

“So that black robed punk was a magician?” at Kaoru’s nod you continue, “How does that work anyway?”

“Magicians obtain powers through faith or religion if it makes it easier for you to grasp. We work on an entirely different system from you so our powers dangerous if used by Ability Users.”

“Man, it's just religion. Do Catholics, Muslims, Buddhist, and Taoist do this to?”

“I would say that theistic religions are the most involved in magic,” Kaoru explained, “And before you ask, I’m not going to erase your memory any more. Kamijou would just undo it.”

You look at your schoolmate. He had that kind of ability huh?

“If that is it then perhaps you should go back to your life and forget this ever happened,” she suggested.

It looks like they wanted to have a private conversation, probably something regarding Kamijou and this supposed Index.

Before leaving ask Kamijou how he would undo the memory wipe. Level 0s shouldn't be able to do that.

Best to learn as much as possible about magic. We never know when we might get into a fight again.

She a mass murder bitch that created, malipulated history and kill more than 10,000 worlds. That just for tormenting touma and not counting how many worlds were destroyed.

Reminder that the canon world is dead and it just a 99.99 percent copy.

What a bitch. Kill her before that happens.

“No I’d rather see this through if you don’t mind,” you answer.

“As you wish,” Kaoru acknowledges before speaking to Kamijou, “I believe you had some questions to ask the Anglican as well.”

“Kanzaki-san, why do you need Index and is it related to her amnesia?” Kamijou asks her.

“Yes, that would be because we periodically erase her memories,” Kanzaki speaks in clipped tones, “It is because most of her memory is occupied by her knowledge of the tomes in her head. She can only support so many more in her head so every year we must do this horrible deed.”

“And you never once asked what she felt?”

“What good would it do? She would forget us anyway. Do you know how many people have tried to make her remember? Did you think that we want to let go?” Kanzaki’s retort is pained.

“Then we’ll find a way,” Kamijou assures.

“The memory erasure ritual must be completed. If it is not then I fear the worst. It is to take place on the midnight between the 27th and the 28th. If you can manage to find a way then I would gladly give way for you. I would rather she forget us all and live than not at all.”

Tell her that memory doesn't work that way.

I knew this before I even read index. Someone who lives and studies in Academy city would know of this.

What about those with Perfect Memories? Eidetic memory. They don't deal with this shit.

“So if I were to remove the spell that binds us, will you agree to let us go and not cut us down as soon as our backs are turned?” Kaoru spoke up now.

“I will agree to a truce until the Index situation is resolved,” Kanzaki agrees.

“Kamijou if you’ll please,” she asks him.

With a pat on the head, the two magicians unfreeze.

“I now am in need of a new shirt,” Kanzaki sighs, “May I borrow your shirt Kamijou?”

Kamijou of course had been doing his damnedest to not look at her breasts. You on the other hand are comparing them to Kiyama Harumi’s. Even with Kamijou’s shirt, she ties it up in her weird fashion.

“Well I need a new left hand,” Kaoru pouts, “With the way I cauterised the wound I can’t just reattach it now.”

After retrieving her hand, the four of you make your way out of the warehouse together.

Episode 6 End. As I have obligations tomorrow, I would like to call it tonight folks. Use twitter to check out when I’ll run again.
