“Guh… godfuckingdamnthiscold…”

“Now, Trudy, I just want you to rest, alright? I’ll try and come around for lunch and check on you.”

“But Carooooo-“

“No buts.”

“But-“

“I said no buts. Now get some rest. I’ll take care of everything for you today, hopefully you’ll be better by the end of the day okay?”

“Oh… okay.”

You are Carol “Kitten” Smith, Sophomore and Radio Operator of the M4A1E8 “Cupid” Sherman of Lafayette Girls Academy’s Tankery Team and best good friend of Sophomore Class President Gertrude Pool.

You sigh. You quickly get a nice wet shower out of the way and then put on your school uniform. You decide to skip breakfast as usual, not like you need it anyway. Brushing your teeth as well can go fuck itself. Brushing your hair, as if. Washing your face, hah.

Once that’s done, you receive a knock at your door. “Kitten, ready to go!”

You say, “Yeah, I’m coming, Nancy.”

“Wait!” shouts Gertrude as she rises like a zombie out of the bed. She sniffles a bit, her usually neat shoulder-length hair now messy and her blue eyes looking so tired. “Where’s my goodbye kiss?” she asks.

You roll your eyes, then kneel down by the bed. “Bye,” you say as you gently kiss Trudy on the cheek. You stand up and quickly wipe your lips. “Get well for me, alright?”

Trudy nods, smiling a little as she curls up back into bed. “See you,” she lazily says. You pack your things then head out the door.

You open up the door and are immediately hit by a freight train of chilliness. You shiver a little as you see Trudy’s staff, Nancy, Lisa, and Ramirez, bundled up. Nancy has the trenchcoat Anna made for the Tankery Team, Lisa has her purple duffle coat, and Ramirez simply has a scarf.

Eh, you better bundle up too. You hold up a finger signaling for a inute, then quickly grab the trenchcoat Anna made for your Tankery Uniform too.

Finally, you’re ready for school.

“Hi, Kitten. You doing alright?” asks Nancy.

“I’m doing alright,” you say. “Trudy’s a bit under the weather, but hopefully she gets better.”

Nancy smiles. “I’m glad!”

Lisa says, “Right, let’s get rambling then.”

You all head out of the dorms and onto the street. You groan a bit at the sun’s bright and shiny morning. Fuck you, sun. You like winter better when you have a justifiable excuse to stay the hell inside.

Nancy and Lisa pick up some idle conversation, while you simply remain quiet.

Maybe it’d be a good idea to talk to them. You actually don’t know much about them. Then again, you’re not particularly good at conversation without Trudy around.

“Nope.”

“Read any good books?”

“Nah.

You sigh. This isn’t going anywhere. Lisa says, “If you think you’re going to get more than two words out of Ramirez with those kinds of questions, you’re going to have a bad time.”

You look over at Ramirez. “Say, Ramirez. If you ever had to push somebody out of a falling plane, which one would you choose?”

Ramirez says, “Myself.”

You quirk your brow. “Why?”

“So no one else dies.”

… Well, at least you got more than two words.

Regardless, it’s time to head to class. You say goodbye to Trudy’s staff then peace out for your first and only class of the day. Radio Operations.

You enter in the classroom to see a huge smattering of Naval Studies Navigations and Communications kids along with a few General Studies kids in one of those stereotypical college style classrooms where the Professor is in a pit and ah you know how it is. You sit down next to your usual classmate, Loretta Niven. You both nod to each other.

The Professor walks in, “Right. Let’s review the basics today.”

You’re about to question why you even take a lecture, but then you remember the reason. Trudy. Hm.

Won't this mean the Sewing Club will be there when Fairless arrives?

On the other hand, Anna would want to take Fairless' measurements. And we don't know how she'll react to that.

You nod again, trying to smile and not look down at Fairless’ incredible legs at the same time. “That so?” you say.

With that, the both of you leave the building and campus.

As you walk back to the dorms, you paste your eyes forward and forward only. No looking at Fairless.

… Okay, occasional glances at Fairless’ figure.

… Maybe a peek at her tits.

“I just took the hugest dump ever.”

You say, “Get back in bed you fucking moron.”

With that crisis averted, you tuck Trudy back into bed. She yawns a bit. Her face is no longer as pale as it was this morning and she actually seems quite chipper. “Bernadette. You came to visit?”

Fairless nods. “That’s right. Just taking tabs on all my Student Council members, make sure nothing’s wrong.”

Here's the thing, after the whole homecoming fiasco, I'm turned off by shipping in this quest entirely.

Sure the relationship between Kittain and Trude is important but is it necessary to bring her on every single thing we do. I like to see more of our other crews or teams,

Besides it's not a secret why people choose to do so. That what kind of irritates me. I kind of want to keep this neutral but it has gotten a little shaky lately though.

With that said, I loved the ending of the play and what Trude said to her.

> Talk to Fairless

You look over Fairless’ shoulder as she cooks, trying not to make eye contact with her generous assets. “Uh… Fairless.” She turns to you oh shit nonononono.

“Yes?”

Boy, Fairless is really doing everything in her power to make you feel inadequate as a woman. You say, “Um… ever try modeling?”

Fairless taps her chin, pensive. “Ah, good question. I did get some modeling contracts a few weeks after my birthday-“ are you fucking serious “- even got invited to be on that shittyass Tyra Banks show, the one where she yells at you for wanting to be better than her. I turned them down though, modeling kind of eh… Admittedly, I have a bit of stage fright when it comes to modeling.”

You blink. “Oh?”

“Yeah. Something about having to get up and be photographed and be watched by all kinds of different people.” She shudders. “I couldn’t do that.”

You shrug. “Neither could I.”

Fairless nods, pouring the completed soup into a bowl. “That’s something we have in common then, Carol.” She takes the bowl and presents it to Trudy, who takes it and says thank you. “Enjoy.”

Trudy smiles, “Thanks, Bernadette. You didn’t have to you know.”

“Oh, don’t mention it,” says Fairless.

>Honestly though, Eugene was so terribly written that I never really considered him (or that other random dude) a real option romantically.

The immediate reaction to Eugene was roughly split between "finally, a guy!" and "OMG kill it with fire!" After his introduction the /u/ boats set up a wolf pack to bitch out the very idea of Trude being attracted to a boy. The infighting got so bad that he was swiftly bundled off with Ace to end the problem.

There wasn't much of a chance to evaluate the idea of a romantic partner, because a large portion of the fanbase exploded at his very presence. Which was ridiculous and over the top even for /u/ (well no not really for /u/) regardless of the merits or lack thereof in pursuing a romantic subplot. I certainly wasn't ready to do so, given the much better argument that the differing schools would make it difficult, but seriously it was like people were just allergic to the very idea that Trude wasn't gay.

But as it is, anyway, Schteel has blatantly and clearly decided to ship Kitten and Trude as the course of least resistance.

I understand why you feel that way, but you can't force things on others. Can't we just have a quest where a female MC, be just friends with her childhood friend and not turn it into some sort of shipping thing.
>>
>>30283693
No, here's where he was terrible in 3 easy bullet-points!

* His character archetype is as generic and stereotypical as, well, many of the main cast, but more disliked for it than most - personally I cannot stand the 'bully-victim becomes perfect, handsome, smart, kind teen once grown up' type of character. He showed very little depth, and maybe he had some that we didn't get to see, but a bad first impression is hard to shake.

* This is the big one - taking away players' control of the character by making Trude a bumbling fool around him. Absolutely terrible idea. I'm somewhat annoyed by it for Fairless earlier on the page too, but at least Kitten's mostly non-played controlled.

* Following the latter point, dropping that kind of character into a quest when people feel like they have a handle on the characters and are getting into the flow of things, only to have every scene with him suddenly be a 180 from what they're used to characterization-wise from Trude (and to a certain degree, Kitten).

I'm sure when reintroduced he'll be done better, but honestly he lost me. And Ramirez's boyfriend is ten times the character.

You place your hand on Trudy’s forehead. “Hm, well your fever’s gone down it seems,” you say.

Trudy smiles. “Does that mean-“

“No, stay in bed,” you say. Trudy scoffs a bit at that then proceeds to eat her chicken noodle soup. Damn it. Why didn’t you think of that.

Fairless says, “Anything else you need, Gertrude?”

Trudy says, “Oh, I don’t mean to be a burden, Fairless. Don’t you have classes?”

“Nah, it’s fine, it’s fine.” Fairless places her hands on her hips. “Really. It’s fine. I have Fredendall for most of my classes. This is a very good excuse to skip.”

Trudy rolls her eyes. “Fine, can I get a glass of water then?”

Fairless nods. “Sure.” She looks over at you. “Carol?”

Hm? Oh, oh! This is your chance. You run over to the kitchen then pour a glass of water out of the tap for Trudy. You hand it to her, and she smiles warmly at you. Yes! “Thanks, Kitten!”

The door bursts open. “The Sewing Club has arrived!” Anna, Mamie, and Bess walk in. “Hi, Gertruuuuuuuu…” The three of them are stopped by Fairless’ icy but neutral stare. They giggle nervously then kneel down besides Trudy. “Who’s that?” asks Anna.

Trudy says, “That’s Bernadette Fairless. The Senior Vice President.”

Anna stands up, smiling nervously. “Well, it’s nice to meet you, Fairless!”

Fairless nods. “Nice to meet you too.”

I don't really see the problem if people want to vent. Good points are being brought up concerning story telling and player grievances. I don't feel passionate about it though to step on other people's toes, this isn't a fucking VN.

>>
>>30284039
The problem is that /tg/ is incapable of having a reasonable discussion for any amount of time on the subject.

How are you being ignored, exactly? People talk about, and vote for, what they want. GS presumably writes what gets voted for, what he feels has the most support, and/or whatever he wants to. What kind of acknowledgement are you looking for?

>>
>>30284224
You do realize there's no 'right' or 'wrong' way to do it, right? You may prefer the subtle/funny way a la Rena, but that's just subjective. Just as valid an opinion as anyone else's, but not some objectively superior way of doing quests like your post makes it seem. Personally I'd prefer Trude and Kitten getting together, though I still like HQR's way of doing things, just not as much, and of course that's just my opinion, not something I'd demand GS do or look down on him for avoiding.

You say, “Say, Anna. So, won’t you need models for the Fashion Show?”

Anna nods. “Oh yes of course! I considered drafting my girls, Mamie and Bess here but neither of them particularly wanted to do it.”

Mamie says, “It’s best left to someone who can actually do it.”

“Precisely,” says Anna. “I’d prefer experience, beauty yes definitely and…” she starts looking over at Fairless. “Uh, Fairless, have you considered-“

“Yes,” says Fairless. “And I’m going to say no.”

Anna, Mamie, and Bess deflate a bit from fear. “Okay,” says Anna.

Trudy says, “Actually, Fairless. I can definitely see you being a model. You’ve got the body for it.”

Fairless crosses her arms. “I suppose I do, that doesn’t mean I want to,” she says.

“Well, I suppose I could see if I could draft some of the other girls in Tankery,” says Anna. “With your permission, Gertrude?”

Trudy nods. “Go ahead, Anna. Speaking of which, have you gotten all your stuff back?”

Anna nods, smiling. “O’Hara returned it all this morning. Unfortunately, we’ve been keeping it in the Tankery HQ and there isn’t a whole lot of space.”

“Alright,” says Trudy. “I suppose it won’t be long.”

There’s another knock at the door. You go to answer it and see Cathy and the Freshmen, instruments and everything. “Kitten!” Cathy greets you. “How are you doing?”

That's a bit vague, was it a promise or a statement, was it meant 'for ever and ever' or for the foreseeable future, etc. Anyway, if GS decides to stick to it then that's that, and if he decides it's not necessary any more then that's his right too.

“Hey, girls,” says Trudy. “What are you doing here?”

“We came by to visit, heard you were sick,” says Cathy. She pulls out a camera along with her guitar. “We also brought this! Film Club let us have it.”

“Cool beans.”

Andrea says, “Apparently it films in 1080p HD. Don’t know what it means but apparently it’s very good.”

You nod at that. You’re about to shut the door when you’re stopped by.

“Good afternoon!” says Janek and the rest of the Polish Student Association and Olgierd. “Mind if we cut in?” They immediately scoot in past you. “Hi, Gertrude! We heard you were sick as a dog!”

Oh for gods sake.

You say, “It’s nice to see you, Marina.”

Marina smiles. “Ain’t it? We brought some coughdrops and my mom’s own recipe for curing colds.” She hands you a paper which simply reads, “Man the fuck up.” You look at Marina, who simply says, “My mom was a bit of a hardass.”

Trudy beams. “Oh really! I don’t-“

Natalya says, “They’re gun cupcakes. That one’s a Colt .45, that one’s a Walther PPK, that one’s a Colt Navy. And the big one is a .600 Pfeifer Zeliska Nitro Express.”

Well, some people feel the opposite. I don't particluarly want Trude and Kitten to get together (though I wouldn't mind either), but I find the character interactions more entertaining than the tank-talk - the actual battles are fun, but everything in between bores me to tears. Admittedly some times the character interaction gets a bit stale or boring even for me, like when we're just doing customary/obligatory check-ins with [grou] without real purpose, but I still love Trude and Kitten's interactions, and the main team is getting more fleshed out and entertaining. I don't really see that, certainly it can dominate the talk between anons, but I never really feel like Kitten and Trude's interactions - platonic or romantic or whatever - dominate GS's posting at all. Maybe for shorter segments of a thread I guess, but then so does a lot of other things like tankery/subquests.

Well, personally I wouldn't mind Kitten and Trude staying just friends, but I would definitely mind less interaction between the two of them, and I quite like the way GS writes them at the moment, so...I guess we just want different things from the quest.

> Try to handle all of the Crews

“Guys, everyone, we can’t all fit in my dorm!” you shout over the chatter and talk.

“Hi everyone, just came to visit Gertrude!” says Francis Dales and the rest of the Naval Studies Merchant crew.

“Dales!” you shout. “There’s too many people in here!”

“Nothing doing!” yells Dales as she and the rest of the Naval Studies Merchant crew squeeze their way through and right up to you. You’re now shoulder to shoulder to people and Dales tits are practically in your face. “See! If anybody can make something fit, it’s Naval Studies Merchant!” says Dales.

You say, “I wasn’t-“

“Do a good turn daily, the Girl Scouts are here!” yells Juliette. “Gordon brought some venison!”

This is not going well.

You look over to see Keegan getting crushed in between Luciano and Lansky. Wait. How the fuck did they get in here?”

Luciano says, “We came in through the window.”

Keegan says, “It wasn’t fun!”

You say, “Guys! Damn it! We can’t all fit into my dorm! Everyone has to get out!”

“I’m stuck,” says Michelle. Everyone agrees. You’d slap your forehead if you could move it. “Could someone call Naval Studies Rescue?”

After a spell, Naval Studies Rescue arrives and manages to get everyone unstuck out of your dorm. The Naval Studies Rescue girl tells you, “Next time, understand the limits of your dorm.”

You nod. “Thanks.”

Everyone talks and chatters outside, they’re at least glad to not be stuck in your dorm anymore. The Freshmen are first in getting to visit Gertrude since they arrived first.

Well, the thing is there are a LOT of character between the crews and the council, and while I like a lot of things about how GS does this quest, I have not been impressed with their ability to make characters interesting or appealing without a lot of pagetime. Honestly other than a small handful, I basically view all of them as either a thin collection of general traits without much depth, or 'who?' I'd rather he focused on developing a smaller number of them (the non-Kitten members of the main group are getting better, but still a little thin).

That really just a problem with the entire franchise. In the anime most of the crews only had one character trait between them.
>>
>>30285513
By handful do you mean a few or just Kittain.

Their are several character that stood out.
>>
>>30285205

I'd classify the scene during the play as an interpersonal one, and not romantic: we got her to come out of her shell and she thanked us.

>>30285214

No, I agree. But I find that Trude/Kitten's interactions do dominate the choices that the playerbase gives schteel. All because one group want the "romantic" option.

I'd rather focus on Trudes other non-romantic relationships. Why not spend a day with the Aces hanging out? Why not crash at Nancy's and play B-ball on the Xbox and make dinner?

tl;dr Why spend so much time with Kitten when we have hundreds of other characters who are also well written we can give screen time too
>>
>>30285460
> Talk to a Crew (Aviators and Rifle Club)
Rifles could totally hook Aviators up with some nice armaments for their unarmed planes.
Don't need to keep relying on Perrine or Principal Tennyson, and it'd build team solidarity.
>>
>>30285589
Sorry, I was misunderstood again, I love the interpersonel ones that's why I mention it, just the the precieved romantic option.

>>30285460
>Convince everyone to help the sewing club
>>
>>30285623
We already asked Perrine for armaments
>>
>>30285574
Well still, even if they're paper-thin caricatures, characters like Fairless or Perrine for example can still be entertaining because they're such strong personalities, and make themselves noticed through that, as well as getting decent page-time. Bolter or Luciano would be somewhere in-between, seemingly have some depth while still being fairly assertive, but not as much so as the first two because they don't get a lot of time in the spotlight - I'd like to see more of them. Octavia is pretty good and probably what I'd imagine those two could be given more attention. But the regular crews...don't really have much going for them. The only ones I can even remember are Anna and Marina.

Kitten, Octavia are the 'best' ones I think. Many others make themselves noticed and are interesting to interact with, like the rest of the main team (when Ramirez is speaking more than two words at least) or the rest of the elite team, and several of the other Tankery leaders we've met have been pretty good. But the crews in general are pretty boring to me.

Luciano says, “I ain’t no fucking model.”

Anna says, “You don’t have to be a model, just help us in any way you can! Advertisement, donations, all that stuff! Really, we could use the help.”

Janek says, “Well I suppose we could help. If anything, we’re all Tankery girls here. We should support each other!”

Megan Enfield asks, “Does Kevlar count as fashion?”

“No,” says Mamie.

Anna snaps her finger. “It can be! Really, throw some ideas at me!”

All the crews start juggling ideas between themselves. Kate says, “Panzer IV.”

Anna glances sideways for a second, confused, then says, “I suppose that might work.”

“Pancor Jackhammer!” yells Samantha.

“No idea what that is,” says Anna.

“XP-56 Black Bullet!” yells Jenny.

Gordon blinks, wiping her knife. “Oh? I’m sorry, didn’t know.”

Juliette nods. “Yeah, well, next time. Bring a table or something, Gordon.”

You look at Trudy. This is too much. “Trudy, are you doing alright?”

Trudy nods, eating her Five Guys burger. “Yep. Me and Juliette were just hashing out things for camping. How’s a trip to a hot springs sound, Kitten?”

“Anything would be preferable to today, believe me.”

Trudy asks of you, “A hot towel would be nice I suppose.” You nod then stand up off the bed and walk over to the sink. You pull up a fresh rag then warm it up under the hot running water of the tap. It only takes a few minutes, then you turn around to see Natalya already putting the M82 back together after just disassembling it.

Despite their loss against Kursk Girls Boarding School, Black Forest Peak still remains a relatively challenging opponent. This is owed mostly due to their heavily armored and armed line up.

You sigh as you walk inside. The Theatre Tech kids and the Sewing Club have left already, and the Aces are just packing up to leave.

Kate says, “Looks like Gertrude’s making an excellent recovery. Hope to see her at practice tomorrow.”

You nod. “Thanks for visiting you guys.”

Octavia nods. “Of course. Can’t just leave our Commander in the dust, can we?”

With that, the five of them leave. That just left you and Trudy…

I think it's also because people won't shut up about it is because that we knew theater crew was going to join up after the play.

We knew this and we still went and gave a tank to a team that didn't really need it.

Calm down. The only reason I said that was because when we first started practicing, they didn't even know how to fire the gun.

That's the only thing.

Last time I checked, the T-34 was packing a 76mm, and the Sherman the 75mm.
>>
>>30287775

And then we get a logjam with too many crews and not enough tanks. The proposal is:

Poles - Stuart (Szarik)
Naval Studies Engineers - Panzer IV
Theatre Tech - Hellcat

We don't lose anything. The poles get their named tank back, and the other two teams get tanks that they can start to familiarize themselves with. It is a win/win.
>>
>>30287744
It wasn't the worst tank it had a different role, wasn't it the Chi-ha?

And don't spout that the Hellcat is superior in every way, We get it we can test the theory out on Saunders

>>30287775

Dude, we need twenty tanks to fill out, and twenty crews. People on the Stuart side besides the sentimentalists is that we will get better tanks and we had new crews coming along the way to man those tanks, and after the first practice it seemed like we messed up a perfectly good crew when WAlter Christie match was near.

>>30287821
I think it will be for awhile though, considering we need 15 crews.

>>30287832

I was talking about the Panzer 4
>>
>>30287775
Going exclusively with the bestest tanks ever and pretending their crews are cogs in a machine sure worked out well for Black Forest, didn't it? The Stuart is a better scout than the Hellcat, which is why the American Army, who had Germans shooting at them to motivate them to develop sound doctrine, used them in their respective roles. Developing unique scout-based skills seems more in-theme with what the Poles were doing than mediocre and grudging use of a tank-destroyer whose best use isn't aggressively probing the enemy but rather being staying in reserve as a fast-reaction unit.
>>
>>30287898
Besides the fact that we don't have the Naval Studies Engineers at this point, I wouldn't mind switching the Poles back into their tank.

The Girl scouts.
Also, for everyone. This whole thing again comes down to long-term vs short-term planning.

The best immediate gains obviously come from keeping our best crews in our best tanks. But we also need to play the long game and the Stuart question simply comes down to if it's worth it to have it as a scout down the line.

Yep, can't argue that.

>But we also need to play the long game and the Stuart question simply comes down to if it's worth it to have it as a scout down the line.

Precisely my point. I'm saying that an experienced and dedicated crew like the Poles in their Stuart would be a better long-term investment than simply putting them in something shinier for short term gain.
>>
>>30288092

The Firefly limits that to four crew members, so it'll be good enough.
>>
>>30288118

And I would argue that the Stuart had limited potential and taking the long road to getting an elite Hellcat is a better use of our crew slots.
>>
>>30288138
But changing a crew to another tank cuts said experience so your better off putting a fresh crew into a fresh tank
>>
>>30288118
Now that's backwards. An experienced and dedicated crew like the Poles in their Hellcat would be a better long-term investment than simply keeping them in a sub-par tank that limits what they can contribute to the battlefield.
>>
>>30288138

Why not put a new crew in the Hellcat, work them up to elite as well, and have both an Elite Hellcat and an Elite Stuart?
>>
>>30288160
An experienced crew is an experienced crew, putting them in a new tank won't magically wipe out everything they've learned in Tankery.

>>
>>30288223
>Talk to Lisa
>>
>>30288092
I am thinking optimal would probably be something like...

Poles - Stuart
Rifle Club - Hellcat
Theater Tech - Panzer IV
Girl Scouts - Sherman

The Poles get their tank back, and are more likely to develop skills and elite status. And despite what certain morons think it's pretty clear a superior crew in a tank they like is going to be more useful than a mediocre and sullen crew in a tank they do not. And of course it's not like the Stuart is incapable of killing other tanks at close range, especially nimble, fast-moving and heavily armed tanks that sacrifice armor. Like say the SU-76M.

Meanwhile the three-woman crew in the Hellcat probably hurts less than anywhere else, since as a TD the Hellcat should be scooting up to a position, hiding in wait, firing off some shots and then scooting back to the next ambush position. They won't be in constant combat to tax the ability of one or two crew-members to multitask.

Switching the Girl Scouts to the Sherman we intend to get to Firefly status makes sense. Four person crew for the final intended model, whereas the Panzer IV will always be optimally crewed with five people.

Though we should also think about setting up formations inside the club and appointing officers. Having Kate command a heavy tank detachment is kind of a no-brainer, especially since promoting her costs no CP, but there's room for at least two medium tank platoons here.
>>
>>30288269
An elite Stuart is a waste next to a moderately experienced Sherman or T-34. And I still much prefer the Hellcat in the scout role.

>>30288277

The Suchka isn't exactly what I'd call well-armed. And of course, it'll have to kill them at close range, in which case they'll more likely be cut off from support and die.

Because an Elite Stuart is not particularly useful.

Why do you think we phased out the Stuart as soon as we could? Because it wasn't very good at its job.

If you're going to insist on keeping the Poles in a "scout," position (which I'd argue is a waste of their enthusiasm and desire to murder), you could at least try to not be an autistic shit and resist change to resist change, and instead make suggestions like moving to a M24 or M22 or Puma scout car or something similar.

You could even suggest that we have Nancy go researching old historical light/scout tank prorotypes to see if those whacky Germans or Soviets made something that could be coopted into tankery. (spoilers: they did, and lots of different kinds)

Instead you're bitching like a little shit.

The Poles are not exactly sullen.

I agree for the most part that they should be in the Stuart because that's the vehicle they like, but the Stuart's usefulness is limited by it's BS bad gun.

The Hellcat has a higher speed limit, a better engine, and a better gun and is not that much bigger (less than a meter lengthwise and less than half a meter widthwise). It can double as a scout because of it's ridiculous speed (which, coincidentally, is better than the Stuart's), and has a gun that is amazing at it's role.

The Stuart simply can't match that no matter how many skills the Poles get on it.

>>
>>30288487
Expecting the Stuart to get in a gunnery duel at 500 yards is pretty retarded. Most of their shots would be at 100 yards or less, in the flanks or rear. Not every tank has to be a Panther.

And the Poles' style of combat is very much reckless and hard-charging, suited to cavalry tactics. Scouting and screening ahead is something cavalry would do, but so too all kinds of crazy maneuvers up close. I don't think the Hellcat is suited to that kind of combat at all, or at least would be better reserved to react to the enemy rather than risked up that way. And right now the Stuart is the best light tank we have, though if a Chaffee becomes available I'm all for giving them it ASAP.

> And of course it's not like the Stuart is incapable of killing other tanks at close range, especially nimble, fast-moving and heavily armed tanks that sacrifice armor. Like say the SU-76M.
Excuse me?

The Stuart barely can handle a thin-skinned tank like the SU-76M. The Hellcat can get through a heavier tank with its gun where the Stuart can't.

Really, it's the ability for the Hellcat to actually take on both scouting and TD roles fairly effectively. Its high speed lets it get into ambush positions and get to prime "passive scouting" positions. It simply is more versatile than the Stuart.

That's why I'd prefer the Poles in the Hellcat.

>>30288668
The hellcat is FASTER than the Stuart and handles better. I'd say that suits the Poles better in their role since they're less likely to get hit in a faster moving vehicle and gives them a better gun.

(Wiki data, may not be accurate) Hellcat crews even used that speed in rapid sprints to flank german tanks.

>>
>>30288735
"Better" is what we're getting hung up on.

My argument would be that the Stuart is a "Better" scout because the Hellcat is "Better" being prepared, sighted in and ready to shoot people the Stuart found.

That would be the gist of my argument for keeping the Stuart, it's a dedicated scout, not a scout/tank-destroyer the could likely be better used in a prepared/known flanking position than poking around.

>> MAGICAL GIRL LIBERTY! <<

Liberty landed on the huge stack of crates within Warehouse 51, having to do her transformation mid-air as she jumped to dodge bullets. She looked down to her right, keeping her shield up to deflect fire from those MG-34s mounted on trucks and Kubelwagens.

Lightning landed next to her, running alongside her. “Hey! Ain’t this fun!” She twirls her naginata, a trail of violet leading from the blade.

“Shut up, Lightning!” shouted Liberty. “We’ve got to stop them from stealing the Crystal Skull!”

“It’s your bank account!” yells Lightning as she hops over Liberty and right down into the fray, slicing a halftrack in half and sending Nazi stormtroopers flying everywhere which away. She jumps again, blasting a crater in the floor, then hopped into a truck and began slicing away at more stormtroopers like the violet lightning she was.

Liberty meanwhile ran alongside, chips of wood exploding at her as the leader of the convoy, a Panzer II, began taking potshots at her with its 20mm autocannon. She span her right hand shield, to a point where it began glowing red from heat, then stopped and threw it with all the power of a major league baseball player.

The shield went through the Panzer II’s turret, leaving behind only a burning hole, and sending the little tank barreling into a pile of crates. The shield then zoomed right back into Liberty’s hand.

Out of the halftrack stepped a girl not unlike them, but on her arm she brandished the Nazi Swastika. “This is my mission bestowed upon me by the Fuhrer himself! Why do we need to follow standard "Scout" Doctrine? I mean, we can get the Hellcat into a spot to watch for tanks, report if they see any, then take a shot and retreat. Basically, they can work like Oorai's Hetzer in the BFP match and the 38(t) in the Pravada match

Forty and Livesey 2006 p. 392

Strong reconnaissance elements were provided so that TDs would be able to use pre-arranged firing positions to best advantage. Flanking fire by TDs was emphasized, both to penetrate thinner enemy side armor, and to reduce the likelihood of accurate enemy return fire.
>>
>>30289047
Flanking fire would include quick sprints to the side once a target was identified IIRC. Let me see if I can find a non-wiki source on that
>>
>>30289047
That gives me nothing on the Hellcat's ability to scout, only that the American Army best believed that TDs should be prefaced by reconnaissance element.

Now don't get me wrong, that was most likely the most cost efficient way to use their resources. Except we're not worried about cost-efficiency, we're worried about slot efficiency, in which more versatile and powerful machines should be used.

>Besides, we could find a new crew and shove them in the Stuart. Now you assholes can have the Stuart back.

That's missing the fucking point entirely, anon.

By keeping the Poles in the Stuart and putting a new crew in the Hellcat, we can get two elite crews.

By putting the Poles in the Hellcat and forgetting about it, we're getting maybe one elite crew for short term gain.
>>
>>30289114
Slot efficiency isn't really a big concern right now.

Walter Christie match is... well it doesn't matter what tank we use, it'll be a walkover or a washout.

After that, its 15 tanks a side and we don't have that number yet.
>>
>>30289115
>> Study a Tankery Team (Specify)
Black Forest
>>
>>30289169

The Walter Christie match is ten tanks only, the match after that is 15 tanks.
>>
>>30289114
We need to not fall into the Black Forest mindset though. Yes each slot needs to be the best/most efficient we can get it. But right now we don't have the 20 tanks we need to start caring about the slot shuffling.
>>
>>30289114

Except they're kinda the same thing. If you want to maximise your slots you take both elements to support each other.
>>
>>30289159
Again, the problem in the long run is that an elite stuart has only one role it does well while the hellcat can take two roles, maybe even doubling as a medium
>>
>>30289185

I'm not thinking that having a better line up is going to magically win our battles for us (unless the other team has a truly terrible lineup). However, I do believe that having a stronger lineup allows for more options and gives us a buffer in how we do things.
>>
>>30289226
Nope, nope nope.

I'll give you scouting and being a TD.

But the Hellcat has paper armor, no way in hell is it a medium.
>>
>>30289182
Yes I know that. It doesn't really matter what tanks we use since we're up against a very non standard team.

After that is the 15 tanks a side and the point here is we have less than that.
>>
>>30289213

Except that the Hellcat can perform the same role as well as the Stuart, giving us more mileage out of the slot.

But this conversation is going to have to continue later, I have family obligations to deal with now.
>>
>>30289226

The argument is more that we can get two elite tanks if we move the Poles back since Schteel has said that Tank familiarity is a big factor in ELITEness.

Remember Ooarai's roster? We want that.
>>
>>30289246
I will agree with that.

How's this idea that nobody seems to have brought up?

Sell the Stuart, use the proceeds plus whatever extra is needed to buy a second Hellcat from Perrine. Boom, two scouts with tank killing ability.

Please if you have an argument against this make it not be "But then we'd have two of the same."
>>
>>30289226
Yeah, I'll give you a TD since it was a TD and M18 was used as artillery but never as a medium.
>>
>>30289213
The hellcat is fast enough to serve as its own scout . Here's what we do:

Hellcat goes to a concealed predetermined spot, checks for tanks. If yes, fall back to an ambush point based on their path and take a shot once in range. Rinse, repeat

If no, head to the next point and so on and so forth.
>>
>>30289295
No...
>>
>>30289250
No I mean doubling as a tank with a good gun in a flanking role, not as a true medium. I admit, I chose poor wording for that.
>>
>>30289295
Perrine doesn't have any right now.
>>
>>30289295

If you want a TD I'd rather a Jackson or a M10 (which we'll then make an Achilles)
>>
>>30289295
I'd be perfectly happy with this.
>>
>>30289295

I get it you fucking hate the Stuart, but stop treating it like it's was like a M2A1, or an Italiain tank.

>>
>>30289294
We don't have Miho's Plot Armor and insane tactics, so we can't really afford to have a limited use tank like she can.

“Oh, Kitten! You say that as if I’d actually read in my own time!” She snaps her finger. “But yeah, I got some reading done. But I was too sick today to finish off that one book, I’m close though. I probably would’ve finished it if it weren’t for all the crews coming by to visit. Bless their hearts.”

Nancy blinks. “The crews came? How was it?”

“Crowded,” you say. You note that there are still some scales and fish guts on your floor. You need to clean that later.

Lisa nods. “I’d imagine so. It’s getting hard to keep track of all the crews.”

Nancy nods. “Indeed. I fear the day when our team loses that sense of camaraderie when we become too large of a team. That’ll break my heart.”

Trudy nods. “It’ll be for the good of the school, Nancy. I assure you that.”

Doesn't have the speed though, which is the real draw of the Hellcat, at least to me anyway.
>>
>>30289489
>Like a Hellcat? I didn't realize a tank would cost as much as a tank!

The M3 76mm is largely adequate, not particularly great. And the Hellcat sacrifices the armor protection of a Sherman, T34, or Panzer IV for the same level of firepower. Its speed has advantages but only for a specialized role, whereas a good medium tank can be used for almost anything.

As you probably saw on the TV in their match against Kursk G.B., Black Forest Peak really likes formation based combat. In short, they’re a team that you do not want to get into a direct fight with at any sort of range. Surviving a direct fight with them at all is a miracle at work.

The only time you should see that happen is in anime with plot armor. Tanks should be working in pairs, you have one moving and another providing cover.

The I-Go is also Elite, as are all of Oorai's tanks. If an Elite crew can pull off that kind of bullshit in tank like that, I think people dismissing an Elite Stuart are doing a disservice.

>>30289863
What about the 20mm fron the Anti Aircraft guns>

Walter Christie has then
>>
You know, nobody so far has said anything substantial as to the preformance of the M5A1 versus the M18.

Let's start with armor.
http://www.onwar.com/tanks/usa/fltm5a1.htm
While not a terribly well-armored beast, the M5A1 is capable of withstanding almost any 20mm round, apart from the rather rare Pzgr. 40, as well as many 37mm shells frontally.
http://afvdb.50megs.com/usa/m18hellcat.html
The Hellcat, on the other hand, is vulnerable not only to standard 20mm, of both the Allied and German varieties, as well as being vulnerable to .50 caliber BMG on nearly all surfaces save for the frontal turret.

Now for size.
The Stuart is considerably shorter (in terms of length) and narrower, even moreso when the M18's gun is factored in. Factor both of these together, along with the significantly smaller turret of the M5A1, and the Stuart presents a much smaller targer.

Manuverablilty.
Both vehicles have roughly equal ground pressure. The Stuart, however can complete a 360 degree rotation of its chassis in space less than two-thirds of the size of the Hellcat.

Combine these, and you have a vehicle that is smaller, more nimble, and more survivable than the M18. The Hellcat should stay as a rear-echelon TD relying on ambushes and responding to targets called in by other commanders, a role it historically proved adept at.
>>

Our nooby team, with crap for a lineup. She did it solo because she brought a green team as well. She was devastating, but no more then I could expect anyone with as much experience as she.

>the Elite tank, shit what was her name?, held up our entire team , again, by herself.
She only did that with a maeuver the WE can do. The Elite-ness of her tank didn't really contribute to that. And again, she didn't do anything unreasonable.

Oorai is ridiculous. They MUST be uniquely advantaged with plot-armour and infallible luck.
Elite tanks are an incredible asset from what we've seen, but we can't really expect an Elite Stuart to shrug off rounds it normally couldn't or take out tanks it has no buisness taking. It could maybe outpace a Hellcat from the Elite buff, though.

They wouldn't be engage at that range if we kept the Hellcat back, using it to respond to known enemy thrusts from concealed positions.

However, sending it racing forward to points on the map where it is supposed to conceal itself and look for the enemy, runs the risk of finding the enemy already concealed there. And good hiding places for tanks also tend to be places where the geography favors the ability to hide until the enemy has closed in. Also urban combat is a thing. Oorai engaged at spitting distance multiple times in the anime, too.

Using the Hellcat as a scout seems to me to rest way too much on assuming everything goes exactly as its advocates say it will.
>>
>>30289849

Was talking about the Elite tanks, not the Stuart.

If you want to talk about the Stuart...

I'd prefer the poles in the Stuart. Their play style is just not good for the Hellcat. A Hellcat is a sniper sitting in wait, observing, tailing the opponent then striking at just the right moment. The Poles are more like an aggressive patrol squad, they get in, fuck shit up, take a tongue for interrogation and generally mess with the opponent.

Not...really.

That's .30(-06, mostly likely, not .30-30 or .30 Carbine), AP steel core rounds from 75 yards away, most likely at the thinnest sections of the rearward hull.

The cannon has an effective range that extends to around a thousand yards (and probably beyond, but a thousand is a nice, round number).

A M18 in senshado getting plunked at my a MMG or HMG with steel core rounds from under 75 yards away is less likely than simply getting blapped by said tank's cannon.

I'd invest in the Sherman, then switch the Scouts to it to put the Theater Tech crew in the Panzer IV. Goal being something like...

Headquarters Platoon
Sherman - Trude's Crew
Somua S35 - Sewing Club
Stuart - Poles
Hellcat - Rifle Club
T/34 - (Engineering)

Medium Tank Platoon
CO: ???
Panther - Delinquents
Panzer IV - Theater Tech
Sherman - Girl Scouts
Sentinel - Merchant Studies

Heavy Tank Platoon
CO: Kate Knispel
Tiger II - Aces
KV-85 - Aviation Club
Churchill - Freshmen
StuG III - History Club

We should make recruiting new crews a very high priority in the coming week since after the Christie match we need three more tanks available to not be outnumbered. Cash flow has thus far not been so much of a problem, though the side quests and more Fredendall bullshit may yet make it so.

For the love of god, don't bring WoT stats or abilities into this, both of those tanks were fucking shite in real life, while the 38(t) and its variants were decent early war, they were outclassed and obsolete mid war.

And they never put the T-50 in production, and if you mention the 50-2 I will murder you through the internet.

If you want a good latewar scout tank, M24 Chaffee is your best choice

We could put the Rifle team in the Hellcat. I know their seriously undermanned but hear me out.

Play them like the sniper as I said. They won't be firing on the move or loading as a result so they only need 3 while moving. If they're a scout team then they only need a driver, commander/radio and a gunner. A loader isn't necessary because we don't want them shooting while scouting so they need only one round loaded for emergencies.

Finally, during actual battles, commander switches to loader and they can fire at their own discretion.

>Lets not get ahead of ourselves with determining squads yet. We don't know what composition we want.

Then we should hash that out, especially since the next practice is going to be the best time to actually introduce an organization and shuffle around crews. But I'd defend that particular proposal as pretty obvious as far as the heavy tanks go, with a very strong medium tank platoon, while the headquarters platoon keeps the harder-to-utilize tanks and recon assets under Trude's direct command.

I was about to disagree with 38(t) about it being a shit tank but then you mention the early war, which it is true.

I'm fine with our Stuat until we find a Chaffee

Hash it out? We'll only be appointing the Aces as officers and giving her command of the Heavies and a flank guard maybe.
We'll get to the meat of organizing when we have to figure out what to do with 15 tanks. It's not important to do for the Saunders match.

The question here is, do we want specialized squads or all around squads?

Specialized squads are good yes, but just lining up the tanks according to weight is not really a good idea. E.g. The King Tiger is severely limited by attaching it to the Churchill and KV. It possess' high firepower and limiting its movement is problematic.

We'd want a dedicated Med squad as you suggested but I'd instead have an firepower squad of the 17 pdrs, Stug and the King Tiger, a bodyguard detachment of the Churchill and KV, and lastly a scouting unit.

To continue, that number of squads gets rather complicated especially as we lack good officers at present. Our practices might want to be devoted to training them but here at present, its us and the Aces. This is where an all around group comes in.

Just balance the two squads so they both have scouts, meds, heavies and etc. Then just tell Squad 2 that you want so and so objective and let her deal with the intricacies while we take care of our own aims.

I would say that grooming Luciano for a squad leader might be a good bet. So far, she's been the first and only non-Ace to express any interest in commanding more than her own tank.

They put the T-50 into production, ~69 units made.

I doubt the ability of the King Tiger to keep up with the cross-country mobility of the Sherman and Sentinel, and the StuG is ultimately a defensive asset as a casemate tank. The King Tiger in general should be playing anvil anyway, so leaving the heavily armored KV and Churchill to play bodyguard maximizes their usefulness and minimizes their shortcomings, while the StuG can set up in ambush against anyone trying to sneak up on them. And the medium tank platoon proposed, with the Panther, two (Eventually) 17 pdr armed tanks, and the Panzer IV, can handle just about anything while being free to react as quickly as possible to enemy maneuvers.

Use the Tiger II as an anchor, leave Casemate TDs with it. Have Mediums move along the flanks, and Lights pushing far.
However, this is all best case, you don't actually know what they're going to do until it happens

I honestly think it might be worth taking a chance on. It'd tie her a lot more to the team if she took responsibility like that, and showing confidence in her like that might make her do it. On the other hand it could lead to serious problems. Something to be very careful of, but high risk/high reward I'd say.

Perfectly reasonable.

Honestly, this is all speculative. Your strategy is fine in more open areas while mine might be better in ambush positions where the firing squad can set up in advance.

It really will depend on the terrain and other factors. As well as just what other tanks we can scrounge up.

I'm kinda sad that they still haven't gotten a kill yet, even if they are in a relatively superior tank. History and Naval Merch are ahead by one in comparison.

It'll at least lead to interesting questing. The idea has my support.

Is that recorded in any pastebins? Could be cool to check out at the end of the quest.

Nah, I just recall.

Their first battle was a 4 vs.4 team practice match. They got lost in the forest, we stumbled into one another, hilarity ensued.

In the William Adams match, they just called out an attack coming in from the north before getting KO'ed by a Challenger.

And that's why they need to be paired with a decent Scout at least.
