"The girls want to celebrate." Momo says matter-of-factly, standing with a clipboard while Anzu and Yuzu in formation behind her. Yuzu nods enthusiastically in agreement while Anzu wears her standard bored look. "In light of the team's success, the Student Council agrees and is willing to find funds for a party."

You are Commander Russells of the M26E1 Pershing Heavy Tank "Black Jack" and, strictly speaking, you aren't quite awake yet. You've had maybe four hours of sleep since this time yesterday morning and those four weren't exactly under idea circumstances- most of them being spent unconcious, draped over Miho's couch.

The awakening you'd had this morning had not helped, but luckily you and Miho had finished breakfast and arrived before anyone else, avoiding any awkward explanations. Though the fact that Miho had finally outed you guys made things a bit easier. Surprisingly few people were surprised by that fact.

A party though? You're not sure you're ready for that considering the events of the past forty-eight hours.

You shrug and blink tiredly at them as your brain mulls over it- however it was definately phrased as a statement, which means that your opinion won't actually change what the Student Council actually does. "Well, I guess- it was a pretty unexpected victory..." You say- even with Black Jack, you weren't sure whether the team would make it past even the first round.

Anzu frowns. "Ye of little faith." She says in accented English. "We're going to win the entire tournement!" She says with absolute conviction. You've seen this before- an unexpected victory often makes them cocky- you start thinking you're a natural; you're God's gift to tanking. Confidence is not a bad thing- Your grandfather always tells you there are Old Tankers and there are Bold Tankers, but there are no Old Bold Tankers.

"How are we funding it?" You say, not willing to get into a likely-losing discussion with La Presidente. "Thought we were almost broke."

Momo speaks for her. "We recieved a large windfall from the Parade winnings-"

"We won?" You say, incredulously.

Momo growls, her non-monocle'd eye twitching a bit, but continues. "Most of that has been allocated, but we can spare some money- a party is an acceptable expendature."

You narrow your eyes, ideas running through your head. "Right- the weather's nice so we should do something outdoors." You say, talking as quickly as you're thinking.

Anzu seems to be on your page. "I've heard American's are fans of Barbeques." She states, thinking as quickly as you are. Yuzu and Momo go back and forth between you and Anzu's rare moment of cooperation. "Burgers and Hotdogs, right?"

You scoff at the idea. "Yeah, if you're cooking for a ten-year-old's birthday party." You say derisively. "If we're doing a barbeque we're doing steak. Are you familiar with Tri-Tip?" You ask quickly. Anzu shakes her head. "California specialty..."

Yuzu snaps her fingers. "Can we do lobster? My uncle's owns a seafood wholesale!" You and Yuzu both snaps your heads to look at her. "S-sorry."

Anzu and you look at each other and nod. "Surf and Turf."

You sigh. "Going to have to be a beach party, then." You say, in mock resignation. Afterwords you look back at your crew. "Well, you handle the details, I've got a tank to manage." You say.

"Yuzu, make a shopping list- we'll procure materials for the party after this afternoon's practice." And with that the three walk away, Anzu throwing out ideas as Yuzu furiously writes on a notepad.

"What sort of steak did he want?!" Is the last thing you hear as they disappear around the Panzer IV. Only then does it hit you- you just cooperated with Anzu and absolutely nothing went wrong.

I dunno about California, but here in New England the standard is Pit BBQ: the standard burgers and dogs as well as pulled pork, racks of ribs, beef briskets, and a mountain of sides consisting of:
-coleslaw
-cornbread
-beans of all kinds
-french fries
-chili
-macaroni and cheese

Delicious and guaran-fucking-teed to ruin your diet.
>>
>>30293787
thanks for the info, the BBQs I've been to I've mainly stuck with hot dogs, so I've got no idea what most other people/places try.
>>
>>30293787
In Minnesota, the standard is
"Let's have a Barbe- Ooh. It's -20 and there's a foot of snow on top of the grill. Fuck it, just put some hotdogs in a pan and call it good".

I lost the idea almost as soon as I started. My writing needs direction, and I don't have much to go on at the moment.

When I wrote the Jeeves story, I decided to play on the 'proper Englishman' personality. When I wrote about Bernie, I tried to explore the idea of a tank with PTSD, and how that would happen.

but with the PzIV, who's name I've yet to choose, I haven't locked down a basic idea yet. I'll definetely write something before this thread is done, though.

Posting as a food fanatic, you need at least two. One sweet, one spicy. You also need a dry rub for those people who don't want sauces.

Most BBQ joints in my town offer at least 4 sauces. Pic related.

I did a piece on that topic awhile back, if you need ideas on where to go, mainly a VERY old and grizzled 1940's vet who has been with Miho for most of her life, even if she doesn't realize it. I recognize Jeeves as the Excelcior, but I don't Bernie. What thread was that in and is it on pastebin? regardless, I look forward to reading what you have.

>>30293985
I normally skip the sauce. I prefer a good dry rub. If you pull that off properly, you need no sauce. For chicken, something with lots of molasses and brown sugar is the way to go. If you get that going in a nice anoxic grill, it will caramelize with our burning.
>>
>>30293894

thanks, mate. Spot on writing there. You'll do great. I do still think the Pz. Iv in Little Army is the same one from the anime. They do give enough un-subtle hints at that. But, if you want to go somewhere else, ignore me.
>>
Looking around you notice a few things- first of all your crew are indisposed with various maintainance and, more importantly, you've gone fifteen seconds without anyone needing your assistance. You're decision is made instantly. "Hey Rose, I'm gonna go fiddle with the... radio." You call out, she looks up at you from the engine for barely a second before going back to fiddling with the engine with Roy.

The commander's seat of an M26E1 isn't exactly the most comfortable place to sleep, but it's something you've done before, by necessity sometimes. So you bring the seat down, bundle up your jacket behind your head and neck and, owing to the lack of sleep, are asleep almost instantly.

"Sleeping on the job?" Mako says, in her usual sleepy tone. Your eyes snap open- the smallest of Miho's Pz.IV crew, it's driver is sitting in the loader's position across the gun from you. "I went to call my grandmother this morning- she left the hospital last night."

My reasoning: Miho was going to middle school at the end of LA, Maho says the tank was going to a high school (see pic), and we never get a specific time for how long the Ooarai program was canceled, and that the old women recognized the Pz. You look at her, not quite raising your head off your impromptu pillow. "Oh great! Guess she's doing okay then?" You say, brain still a bit slow from being woken up. You're still genuinely glad for her- as annoying as your grandfather can be sometimes, you'd be pretty worried about him if he were in the hospital.

"I wouldn't know- she hasn't called and wasn't home this morning." Mako says matter of factly. "And your grandfather wasn't on the ferry last night." The information take a few moments to sink in and mesh together to form a full picture- you haven't been home yet, you haven't seen your grandfather since yesterday afternoon, your grandfather knew Mako's grandmother from a long time ago.

I'm the guy that archives the threads. I tend to do it about halfway through the thread or when I get tired and ready for bed, whichever comes first; in this case, it's the latter, I'm on my tablet posting from my bed.

You sigh, then open your both to say something before you find yourself sighing again. "Yeah... They're probably at my house." You say, resigned to the fact that your grandfather and Mako's grandmother had almost definately left Oorai together the previous night- they'd probably taken an earlier ferry. You look down at your watch- two hours before class begins- not even being late from class can save you now. "Guess I should go check on them, then."

"I'll come as well..." Mako says in a low monotone. "She's my grandmother."

You don't live far away- the town itself is a ten-minute walk from one end to the other- and your house is pretty close to the school. As you walk up to the front door. Mako stares tiredly into space- she'd at least gotten a nice long nap on Hana's shoulder on the ferry last night. You go to unlock the door, but then turn to the sleepy garupan. "Listen, I apologize in advance for whatever happens in here."

The house is quiet- you accutely hear every squeeking board as you and Mako walk around. You take a deep breath and call out softly. "Grampa?" And don't hear a response. "Are you home?" For a moment, you think that maybe, just maybe, they aren't here. Then you see his keys sitting on the coffee table- he's here somewhere.

Unfortunately there's one place you haven't looked. You close your eyes for a moment and steel your nerves before walking upstairs, Mako following behind you. "Your house is nice." She comments politely. You barely hear her as you creep towards his room.

"Grampa!" You repeat, hoping for a response. And then you finally come to his door- it's closed and you reach out and knock tentatively. You hear nothing so you knock again, more firmly before reaching down to open the door.

As the light from the hallway pierces you room you realise two things: First, your Grandfather and Grandma Reizei are in there. Second, your fragile psyche was not ready to see this. You don't exactly hear Mako blink over the sound of your grandfather's snores, so much as feel the sheer power of nope.

"Nope." Mako says before turning around and walking away. "Nope. Nope. Nope." You hear as she walks down the stairs behind you, frozen in place with a look of shock and horror. Your grandfather, finally awakening from his slumber looks at you. "Dammit, boy. Don't you know how to knock?"

“My friend” he says while passing it to you “I hear you are back in the tank”

Nobody except your crew knew this. You eyeball all of them, looking for a reaction, all you get in response are straight faces

“Aaah, do not worry, they didn't say anything” Omar leans over the counter “I have my own contacts” he taps his nose

“Okay” you respond nonchalantly as you grab the Shisha in one hand and shake his hand with the other “I'll see you around Omar”

You make your way to the Buick while the rest of your crew exchange goodbyes with Omar “Alright, lets go home”

“Oh, I forgot” you say snapping your fingers before pulling your phone out and calling Ray. As always, his greeting is dismissive “How's it going boy”

“Is that Ray?” Rob asks, you nod in response before returning to the call “Hamish is racing tomorrow, bet on him”

“What, you think there's something you know that I don't know” he quips

Rob starts using his porn voice coupled with loud breathing “Oooh Adam, my ass, oh my ass it's too big, aaaah”

“Is that Rob?” Ray asks upon hearing the debacle in the background

You grimace “yeah, I think he's trying to be funny. By the way, Hamish says he's going to go for second so make sure you bet on second”

“What?”

“He's got a new engine, so he's got a shot at first” you explain slowly

“Okay okay okay” he says, you know he's thinking “I gotta get my bet pulled”

“Mmkay, cya” you hang up

You enter home sweet home to find your Landlord's thing on the table

“Oh, check out what Darcy left us” you pick up the stack of video games “Kung Fu Chaos, Need for Speed: Mostwanted, Jurrasic Park: Operation Genesis and Simpsons: Hit and Run” you get to the bottom of the pile “noooooo, no fucking way” you pick up two boxes of DVDs labelled 'Heavy Gear' and 'The PJs'

“A TV Show?” Rob asks looking at the things in your hands

“These show, was fucking gangster when I was a kid”

You look up and add “must have left these after seeing the Xbox” you look over to the decrypt console sitting in the Cabinet below your CRT TV “we'll have a jam after”

Rob starts the gas element with a click and places one of the Coals in the blue flame spitting out, he turns to you “you wanna watch a Senshado match?”

“Okay, we'll watch one while the Coal lights” you let out an exasperated sigh “two people have suggested I watch it, so I might as well”

You boot up the sole computer in the living room, it's a sleeper sitting in a beige case, the only thing that gives away the power is the immense thrum of the fans within “Okay” you sit and navigate your way to Youtube while Rob leans over your shoulder “Lets see what we've got”
You type 'Senshado' into the search box
The first video to pop up reads nearly entirely in Japanese, the only thing you can make out is the word you searched for. Might as well check it out considering it has the most views

You click on it

“Hey that looks like Kuromime” you comment after noticing their paint scheme and uniforms

“That's not how it's pronounced” Rob says in agreement

“Wait, shut up, I think the Commentary is in English” you slip the Headset on, engulfing your ears and dampening Rob's voice

>[3/?]
>>
>>30299666

You remove the Headset
“What did you think?”

“I think it's time to get the Coal” you stall as there's something you need to think hard before telling Rob

“Okay” Rob says sitting on the steps outside, Hookah nestled between the two of you, pipe in hand “what did you think?”

“I'll tell you after you take a hit”

He smiles “fuck off, you don't want to take the first one because it's always rough at the start”

You try to bargain “you start it off, and I'll tell you what I think, otherwise you'll have to wait until after I stop coughing”

“Fine” he inhales moderately. His exhalation is followed by a bout of coughing

“Okay go” he croaks

You hold your finger up to pause him while taking you pipe to your lips and taking a breathe. Shit that's still rough. A single cough escapes your lips

“Check it” you say beginning your analysis “in hindsight, I'm sure anyone could pick up what went wrong, but the thing that stood out the most was the route they took”

>[4/?]
>>
>>30299711

“I mean like, what the fuck were they thinking having their flag tank lead the charge single file along a cliff in rain while Tee-Thirty-Fours were waiting at the end” you start getting into it “and then the initiative, you'd think the Tiger Crew would be able to keep going while their Commander was out, but no, they're going to stop and hold the rest of the tanks up”

You take a breathe, savouring the taste before returning to your rant “shit, they lost that match as soon as they took that road”

“Oh” you say meaning to add something after another drag “and the match continuing after one of the tanks fell off the cliff and the Commander jumping out of their tank to assist, their Referees must really suck, or they live close to the edge”

Your tirade ends and you finally allow Rob to speak “looks cool though”

“Yeah, but they're not going to win much like that” you pause for a moment “I should think”

“I wonder what they spent that money on”

“Repair probably” you cough “a shattered Frontal Plate is bound to be expensive”

“That plan was pretty shit though”

You look to Rob again “no, the plan was great, they just didn't do what I expected them to do”

>[5/?]
>>
>>30299786

“Yeah” he inhales “that's why it sucked, probably wouldn't have had to take a break if it weren't for that”

“Everyone makes a choice” you say in rebuttal before inhaling

The two of you sit there in silence puffing away watching the world go by

He checks the Shisha under the coal and tinfoil “looks like it's done”

“Well, I'm fucking starving, lets eat”

>[6/?]
>>
>>30299836

“What's for breakfast” you follow with a yawn

Rob replies as you stumble into the Kitchen bleary eyed, the TV going in the corner playing The PJs “precooked sausages”

“Cool” you take a seat at the table, waiting for Rob to finish cooking “you know you can just chuck them in Microwave, that's what I always do”

“Yeah, and they're always cold in the middle”

You shake your head “luke warm, at the very least”

“Yeah, well it sucked” he places your plate infront of you, the sausages rolling in Ketchup with a side of scrambled eggs

“Cool” you start sucking it down, Rob sits opposite you tapping away on his phone “who's that, you've been on their all week”

“Don't worry”

You press him “is it a girl?”

He puts his phone face down on the table “yeah”

You bite your lip “fuuuuark, getting in there”

He simply shakes his head and returns to texting, probably because he doesn't know how to respond

You speak while chewing. Table manners are for chumps “what time is it?”

“five-twentyish”

>[7/?]
>>
>>30299889

“Cool” you stop conversing and start watching TV while eating. It sure does bring back memories, like a sore back from trying to crane your head up to see the TV while lying on your belly

The sound of a turning door knob grabs your attention, they're clearly struggling to open it as you can hear the wrenching of said knob “did you lock the door?”

“Yeah, I didn't want people bursting in here”

You sigh “let him in”

You finish off your sausages and eggs as John comes in, ready with a greeting and a handshake “how's it going boys”

“Pretty good” you straighten up while chewing “this motherfucker” you say looking to Rob “is getting in there”

“No fuck, nothing like that” Rob says slightly shocked

“Oh, this guy” John catches on “you can deny all you want Robbie boy, we know what's going on, got that cute little thing up in Savannah”

“How'd you know?” he looks to John confused

You look to John first and give him an impish grin then back to Rob “did you actually think you were being subtle?”

“I didn't tell anyone” he squints at you as if he can figure out how you deduced this

“Mate, you spent like the whole day talking to her, and you're texting a whole lot more”

He starts getting smart in his responses “doesn't mean it's her”

“I'm sorry Rob”

He exhales through his nostrils “What did you do this time?”

You put on a shit eating grin “I was browsing your Facebook page, didn't you think it was wierd your birthday had changed?”

>[8/?]
>>
>>30299927

“Dude that stuff is private” he's getting paranoid, you can tell

“Lucky I didn't snoop around that much then” you clear your throat to relieve yourself of the conversation “you ready?”

“I'm here aren't I” John replies

You shrug “I guess so”

“You guys watching the PJs?” John takes the last seat at the table “I used to love watching this as a kid, kind of want to get baked and watch it now”

You can't help but agree “it would be a laugh”

THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP

“Someones at the door” you turn to Rob

He stands “at least they know how to knock”

Rob swings the door open revealing a dark muscular man before you

“What up nigga” you shout over to Hamish

“Not much” he leans on the door frame, crossing his arms “you ready?”

You stand “yeah, lemme just grab my shit” you get your Overalls, Wallet and Phone before returning to the fridge to grab some lunch

It's pretty barren “yo Rob, do we have anything to eat?”

“No”

You purse your lips thinking “I'm sure we can get something over there, I made a bit of cash from Hamish” you snap your fingers at him in the shape of a gun

"I always got your back" he responds

You clap “okay lets go”

Good morning, Garupans.

So last night, I set out to write a tankspective starring Miho's PzIV Ausf. D. However, after reading Little Army (which implies pretty damn hard that Miho has been with this old tank for at least six years) I've decided to make this story a multi-parter.

so here's my basic outline for the story of Aldman (lit. 'old man'):

pt 1: covering Aldman's experiences during the war, from the invasion of poland in 1939 to the defense of the Ruhr in 1945.

pt. 2: the inter-years, detailing Aldman's experiences as he passes from collector to collector before being acquired by the Nishizumi family.

pt. 3: Covers the duration of Little Army, and Aldman's first interactions with Miho.

pt. 4: Covers the beginning of GuP itself.

Someone last night asked me to run the story by review before finishing it, and this is what I have at the moment. Thoughts?

PS: This is probably going to end up at several thousand words in total, if not more. Not sure how I feel about that at the moment.

Put it in a pastebin

I'm going to advocate that we do that for all our writefagging so that if we want to reread anything again, or we have super long things like this, we can keep an archive of it in our pastebins for future reference and sharing.

'part from that, looks good to me.

I'm looking forward to reading it, especially if there's been some thought put behind it. A few things, though.

Is there any clear evidence that the Panzer IVD seen at the Nishizumi estate is the same as the one used by Oarai? I highly doubt that it's the only IVD that exists in Japan.

I find it highly doubtable that a Panzer IV with a short barrel cannon would survive as that to the end of the war. Either it would be re-engineered as a support tank (such as a wirbewind or möbelwagen), or it would be up-gunned (and up-armored), just as they later did in the show. Of course, it could be that it WAS up-gunned and up-armored, and then restored to original form by one of the collectors. It would however need to be mentioned, if only in passing.

(Also, I think Alterman would be a better translation of oldman, but I might be wrong)

That tank in particular was sent to an elementary school, and Ooarai has always had that IV.

>Is there any clear evidence that the Panzer IVD seen at the Nishizumi estate is the same as the one used by Oarai? I highly doubt that it's the only IVD that exists in Japan.
It isn't. As far as canon goes, it's one of two: the first is a nonfunctional museum piece that sits in Miho's front yard, and the other was actually part of their garage lineup. That's the one she drove around. Of course, it should be amazing that there are any at ALL in japan, for reasons outlined below:

>I find it highly doubtable that a Panzer IV with a short barrel cannon would survive as that to the end of the war. Good thought. Remember that less than 250 PzIV Ausf. D's were ever made, and production was phased out in early 1940. A tank that old would have one hell of a story to tell.

>Also, I think Alterman would be a better translation of oldman, but I might be wrong

I googled it. The two common names that translate to 'old man' are Aldman and Altman (so related due to the relationship between the 'd' and 't' sounds in the German language). I'll go for Aldman because Altman reminds me too much of Dead Space.
