It looks like our snake baby has some ability to sense her environment without light. That's convenient. If we practice, we might be able to walk around as a hedgehog while still using her senses for guidance.

For now, do a quick look around to see if there are any doorways or anything dangerous, then go back upstairs to your main body (to avoid being stepped on) and head down with Digby.

Okay, if there's no obvious danger then we might as well go up.

Here's an idea: Able goes up first, while Digby stays at the bottom and they each hold onto one end of a rope. When Able gets to the top, she holds onto the rope and Digby uses it to guide himself up. That's to minimize the danger of falling if we're startled; Digby can catch Able if she falls, and Able can hold Digby steady with the rope while he climbs.
