sorry about being late sorta have a cold so session will likely be shorter and if quality wanes please forgive me

Last time at Vault 101 we find ourselves in a nasty predicament as our fallen comrades turned zombie opened our front door allowing easy access for a OVERWHELMING Monster swarm to descend on us. Meanwhile a bunch of our sensors went crazy underground as they detected an an oncoming force from below as well.

For some reason the zombies who let the monsters in are being ignored by them and are holding themselves back. Sensors indicate that the forces coming in from the tunnels are zombies and the ones coming in from the old railway is made up of monsters.

Alert
Picking up radio chatter from unknown source. From what we have been able to decrypt indicates bandit presence and some other entirely unknown force with VERY heavy encryption. Luckily for us however its process used is very old and the equipment is breaking down. Despite that we still were not able to figure out much.

".....Looks like we got ourselves a clusterfuck what fun...."

"Zombies are acting strangely I don't like it....."
Alert
A detachment of OmniTri forces have been dispatched to our location.
>>
Is it confirmed whether or not the zombies below and/or the zombified borg who let the monsters in are not immeniently hostile to each other even in close proximity?

If I recall we saw a strange group of individuals using monsters a packmules.

One thing I'm wondering is if we can replicate some sort of zombie pheromone to mask ourselves from the monsters and other zombies.

are the underground sensors pertaining to the zombies in the tunnels and the monsters in the railway, or is it telling us about yet another threat?

also would there be anything to gain from scouting the invading forces, or do live feeds, and base sensors paint a pretty complete picture?

and last of all does the Hub thing that there is anything worth while in continuing negotiations with the unnamed entity?
>>
Rolled 82

So much so that as long as they are discussing how much they hate Volk they never shut up about it.

Bonus unlocked

A lead?

According to the zombie Dr. Volk was last sighted heading to his old homeland which is strange considering it was utterly annihilated before the Fall, then during, and finally afterwards. Meanwhile a few stops were reported of him stopping by at certain locations. The reasons are unknown other then him stopping by quite the odd flavorful mixture of groups ranging from paladin HQs to outright brood hives.
>>

And lets try to hail the source of that radio signal.
>>
Rolled 77

It is merely pertaining.

Unknown.

>>30332867
There are multiple sources.

first one is unknown but mentioned a clusterfuck.

Second one mentioned zombies.

Third one is a mystery.
>>
>>30332867
Would it be wise to reveal our location to yet another faction?

I have no doubts the borgzombies will liekly lead the monsters or influence their path directly toward us, and they could be our salvation, but still do we risk another hostile faction?

I'm also concerned about Omnitri's pledge of support. If they didn't think us saveable they wouldn't have sent a force, unless this is last ditch info extraction operation before the monsters kill us.
>>
Do we have any estimates as to how many turns or how close until the nearest faction will reach us?
>>
>>30332983
does hailing them on the radio reveal our position? We overheard their radio but we know jack shit about them, I would assume that we would be able to hail them back without revealing all that much.

>>30332956
can we get "he who refuses to be named" back on the line, and ask him if he would be willing to cut a deal in return for us helping him track down Dr. Volk. I cant imagine that zombies or monsters would be terribly helpful in finding somebody. while we are at it find Matt (i think that was his name) and see if he has heard anything about Dr. Volk through his "connections"
>>
>>30333062
the monsters are already in our base so I cant imagine many, unless we are waiting for the omnitri reinforcements to arrive.
>>

>does hailing them on the radio reveal our position? We overheard their radio but we know jack shit about them, I would assume that we would be able to hail them back without revealing all that much.
Good point.

If our technology is apt to sending radio frequencies without the enemy's ability to triangulate our location I'd say hail them.

>>
>>30333777
>>30333786

To start out with: I suspect that we were detected by the zombies due to our psionic potential...but lack of utter lack of psionic training. It explains the zombies bumping into our vault-door earlier and being confused, and our men's strange feelings that they could feel them.

Also, it's possible that the Monstrous Wang Gang is behind this Monster Mayhem...but I find it unlikely. We HAVE noted bandit activity though, and we noted bandits attacking monster dens in our area earlier too.

Anyway, enough with this side-discussion. Next post will get into possible avenues out of this clusterfuck.
>>
>>30334001

Allright.

To start off, we need to (carefully) extend comm-handshakes to our zomborged members. It's likely that these are the 'charges' that the Overmind (as I'm calling the thing we're talking with through Skelly) keeps referring to. They're lonely and tortured being stuck in zombified bodies because their hosts were never 'killed' so they didn't die either...and now they want company, one way or another. Not sure how to deal with that exactly, I'll need information on the mental state the ghosts are in.

That being said, just assuaging our former comrades may not be enough at this point because our door is wide-open with monsters charging into it (not to mention the stuff coming up from below). Accordingly, we need to strike a deal with someone to save our asses.

Now the Overmind has been rebuffing our attempts to negotiate with it, but that's because we haven't really offered it any tempting cherries yet and also because it's charges (if our zomborgs are indeed them) still want our blood.
>>
>>30334204
Very good. go on
>>
>>30334204

In line with that...we need to leverage the Overmind's hatred of Dr Volk to make it be more friendly towards us which has been done already, good job guys and offer to 'sell' (that is, give) it our tech in exchange for salvation.

"But anon!" you say "We've already tried, and it doesn't want our stuff!"

True, true, but we haven't really been very salesman-like about it. So far as the Overmind knows it already has what it wants from us and all that we can offer we need to dissuade it of this notion.

First of all: these zombies are mutated to fuck with psy pretty hard. That's an expensive mutation, and the Overmind wouldn't have expended the resources to do it if there weren't someone around bothering it with psy. Well we're sitting on the answer to that question aren't we? (seeing as our implants cause the zombies to nullify psy)

Sure, you have our 20 members that are already in your ranks...but they move awfully slow and awkwardly don't they? And that's not really enough to take on any big forces either, is it?
>>
>>30334378
I was with you until the part where we offer to give it null-psyker zombies. Im not saying we cant do this but I am most certainly saying that be need fail safes out the wazoo first. don't want to see this blow back on us down the road, cause we've been warned about the dangers of such zombies.
>>
>>30334378

Why, what if I told you, Overmind, that //right now// we have a brain-interface that works with infected physiology. We could, should we not die in this mess, refine it and equip just about as many of your pawns as you want with them.

That's just the beginning though, isn't it? If we can make the brain interface work then imagine what we can do with the less touchy parts of your forces. You name it and we can do it.

Oh, and did I mention that Dr. Volk would never see a force of psy-nullifying borg-zombies coming?

But of course, this is all null because we have monster swarms charging down our front door and up our back door. And believe us, the data-security countermeasures in this lab are more than up to the task of deleting all of our precious designs.
>>
>>30334502
Admittedly though, a problem we can always solve later is better than one which will likely kill us right now.
>>
>>30334524
I meant to suggest that this is the best idea we have at the moment but it is not something to do hastily.
>>
>>30334502

Indeed, it's not ideal but >>30334524

Oh, and our AI Core was likely shut down over worries of dangers (or attempts to fuck with) arising from it interacting with the Hub and ghosts. We should be extremely cautious in unlocking it.
>>
>Sure, you have our 20 members that are already in your ranks...but they move awfully slow and awkwardly don't they? And that's not really enough to take on any big forces either, is it?

Send this line of dialogue down to them post-haste
>>
>>30334510
>>30334378

We might also suggest to the Overmind that we may have solved the limitations on borgs, and if our ghosts don't restrict themselves to ONE SINGLE WEAK BODY then we see no reason why we couldn't allow it to shrug its off.
>>
Anyway guys, our first action should be to get into contact with our zomborg members and go from there.
>>
>>30334619
Agreed and seconded
>>
>>30334619
okay but what should we do with our research action?
>>
>>30334591
I suggested that last turn, but apparently even with switching bodies and theoretically limitless upgradability they think borg tech "has it's limitations" and in typical fashion of them won't tell us what they are.
>>
>>30334589

If we go down this line of action then we should add in "We couldn't help but notice that your zombies have been very expensively mutated to fuck with psionics...well we're sure it works, but only so well."
>>
>>30334645
I suggest anti-monster tentacle augs.

well we are going to have to figure out what to research eventually, no harm in doing it now.
>>
>>30334688

Underestimate Dr. Volk? Shame the thought. However, he's not perfect. You didn't known Dr. Kaharr was here, did you?

Perhaps it wasn't expensive, but you had a reason to do it.
>>
>>30334757

Monsters are much more varied than zombies are.
>>
>>30334757
>we made anti-zombie tentacles last thread
I presumed those were more along the lines of "anti-infantry" unless we have discovered a formula tailored against zombie physiology.

That said, if monsters were as uniformed as zombies and not just giant beasts of any and all kinds depending on what OP thinks would be cool an anti-monster tentacle gland would also be vastly useful.
>>
>>30334784
doesnt hurt to try
>>
>>30334811

If it wastes a turn of research and a unit of resources then it does.
>>
Rolled 89

>>30334761
Dr. Kaharr is limited where Dr. Volk is not. He has worked on countless projects varying from zombies to cybernetics and more. What can Dr. Kaharr claim hm? Well beyond cybernetics anyway and what just NOW he is adding on psionics?

Richard was a long standing member of E5 category he has worked on psionics since long before it was possible for even super geniuses could start to crack how it works and not just what it does.

As much as I may despite the bastard and how I appreciate our shared loathing I see no reason to accept.
>>30334795
Unfortunately for you monsters are not NEARLY so uniform as zombies.
>>
Anyway, hopefully we can get out of this. If we can manage to get onto the other side of this crisis then I also found some secrets regarding things we need to research.
>>
>>30334869
Do you have any other alternatives should negotiations fail?
>>
>>30334854
(Can we contact our zomborged comrades?)

That is unfortunate, and grieves us. It seems odd that we fail to entice you even now, at least into neutrality. Perhaps we will think of something later.
>>
>>30334940

Cracking open the AI hub using the Dr's special ability for hacking anything, and hoping it has some cards up its sleeves...so far as I can see.

The transmissions that we detected earlier from the 3 different sources are also a possible avenue. I'm unsure what to make of the very heavily encrypted transmissions...but they feel important.

Those 250 men from OmniTri are also going to help a bit.

I distinctly recall Richard speaking about Dr. Volk in the third person numerous times, and in negative word.

For that matter, we found Richard still battlng Clora, his eternal fleshqueen rival, since the very fall while we know for a fact Dr. Volk had been up and about around and after the fall.

If however, Richard had been hiding the fact that he IS Dr. Volk the entire time, and had somehow managed to sneak in and out of both his constant struggle and Memor duties, I would eat my hat.

He hadn't been in there since the very Fall(he did some tinkering/slipped in later) though to be more precise he actually sorta got trapped there for awhile. Supposedly he died during the fall along with his personal forces and homeland.

Before the Fall he was a considered a depraved albeit miracle working genius. Wherever he went as long as he didn't have to worry about 'ethics' rather then whatever he chose to do he was able to work wonders. His most famous results including the safe usage of brood material, the development of the mass bio borg production, genocides of worldwide scales, the development of a super soldier that DIDN'T have insane costs and more. Really though thanks to his means of working...the vast majority of his actual work is kept tightly under wraps.

After the Memor he then satisfied his borg urge, played around with some production systems, and did some revising of older materials.

Our forces have come up with the basis of a training regime. It should work to help cover up our psionic signature.

Psi interfaces and the crystals don't quite seem to work in the way we hoped, but our forces thinks there is potential a multiple things. We just sorta need to tinker around with it is all as in new discoveries hopefully but we do have some leads now.

If you join Umbra you do not join a company, a mere business organization.

You join a family

A family in which brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, ALL protect each other. The strength of any family relies on it's cohesion.

The arm does not protect the body alone, the head must guide it, the heart move it, the legs aid it.

Alone, you have seen yourself unable to protect your charges. But together, TOGETHER, we can change that.

If you truly wish to do that which you set out to do, protect your charges, join that which only that alone can give you the power to do so.

Protect a family.

"Have Dr. Kaharr hack into the AI and robot army and attempt to take control of it/them with the assistance of ghosts, secondarily attempt to fuck with the borgs' implants to stall their advance and damage them."

We would then add a corollary "if the hacking is successful, deploy forces of Shadow Guard to isolate the AI and strike the borgs while they are weakened."
