You are Percius Aurex, Captain of a raider-class pirate vessel. Formerly the 14th son of a noble family, you fled that life in search of adventure. Returning home over 15 years later during an infiltration you found your family upon the brink of ruin and your father assassinated long ago. You currently sit before a fuming Captain Hariso, the man you formerly served under and will soon join on a mission for the wolfpack. Tes sits awkwardly off to the side of the table, her flirtations with Hariso ceased after your counter offer for his information wiped the pleasant smile from his face.

"I found this when I went to soak my feet in the river" he says, rolling a small golden nugget between his fingers. "I trust you won't mind a few of my people assisting your operation when you've begun digging? Not that I don't trust you, Aurex." His eyes dark toward Tes for a moment as he returns the nugget to his person, then fix back upon you.

"To quote a holovid I saw as a boy 'Gold, Gold, Hooked am I, Susana go ahead and cry'. Unfortunately my miners will be employed for the foreseeable future exploiting some mineral reserves on the island where I my crew and I made our first camp. It may take some time for the personnel and equipment form that project to be available for this one. As we are partners in this little gold field, perhaps you could supply the men and gear for exploiting this little treasure so that we may both reap the rewards sooner?"

Hariso's eye twitches at your words, his arm stiffly gripping his glass before he finishes what remains of the alcohol within. "I think we're done here, Captain Aurex. Miss Tes, it has been a pleasure."

As Hariso departs the mess, Tes looks toward you and turns her palms upwards at you. "Should I grab some more drinks or do you just want to slam your head into the table, Percius?"

"I was perfectly reasonable."

Tes brings her hands beside her head, touching her finger tips to her temples before swinging them forward and out with an exaggerated look of confusion upon her face. "You were clearly insulting to him! Have you not been sleeping or something?" Her hands drop to the table before rising with her palms open toward you. "No, no. Let me get a drink first."

Tes returns with a half-empty bottle of what appears to be burbon and a pair of glasses with ice, pouring each of you a drink and quickly slamming her's back and pouring another. "I drink, fuck, cook food and kill people, Percius. Talking to your fellow Captains is supposed to be your job." She gasps after another shot of the alcohol burns down her throat, shaking her head and torso slightly. "Two of four in a day isn't too bad."

"I guess I should inform my sister, then. She'll need to act upon this information while we're off raiding in the coming months." You enjoy the burn of the cheaper alcohol Tes has provided as you plot your next move. "We'll need to prepare for that, too."

"No rest for pirates, Percius." Tes refills your glass and her own before snatching up her glass and the bottle. "Dibs on telling your sister. Perhaps I'll get to do three of four today" she says with a predatory grin.

"Don't you dare, Tes."

Your armswoman only offers an evil laugh as she departs.

Where about do you want to conduct this safari?

How many people will you bring?
What officers/characters will you bring?
How many days/hours will it last?
What kind of equipment/supplies will you bring?

Your island is larger than 3 Russias, for sense of scale...
>>

How about we start at Camp Anawanna and slowly make our way into the center of the island.

Keller is a obvious choice in my book though the fact he hasn't been on planets much should be interesting. Maybe ask Orsola if she would be interested as who knows what creatures, plants, or other things we might find. Of course ask if any of the originals want to join us as well.

Bring about 10 or so "Volunteers" from the rookie armsmen so go with us.

We will stay in the field for about 5 days with tents and food to last until our journey back.

Everyone should of course be armed with whatever gear they deem appropriate. Weapons are mandatory.

Safari/scouting expedition to see how far we can get in the time we have.
>>
>>30335946
please be aware that the major lake East of your camp site is roughly 300x300 km in area.

in 5 days, moving into mountains...

with little experience...

probably not that far. Again, this island's land area is estimated to be a bit over 3x that of Russia.

But for now I have organized a little get together for us all to enjoy the sunshine a fresh air of our own land here on this planet. We are a team, a brotherhood, we work together, we fight together and we celebrate together. Huzza"
>>
With your mottley collection of explorers collected upon the planet's surface, you share the orbital and aerial recon with each of them. "We'll start out by following the small river that feeds into the lakes here. From there, it will depend what we encounter."

Keller nods, his face covered in what appears to be an attempt at camoflage paint and at least two demo charges upon his person. "Good thinking, Captain. We'll be able to keep a set course and not wander in circles. Maybe even ambush a few local species while they go for a drink and"

"Can you please not drive me insane with your Sly Marbo fantasies before we make it ten meters from the lighter?" says Dent, a hand gripping the side of his head. "This is the fourth time you've been on a planet and you're not that damned sneaky!"

A few smiles and some laughter cause Keller to zero his gaze upon the rookies among your number. "Alright then, you boys and girls are on point! Packs on, weapons at the ready and move your asses before I decide to throw rocks at anyone I catch up to!" The rookies are quick to move, your Master at Arms hot on their heels after finding a dozen or so rocks suitable for throwing at rookies. One of the rookies yelps as a rock audibly strikes her butt and soon places herself near the front of the pack fleeing Keller. "I wasn't joking, rookies! Move your asses or you won't be sitting down for a week!"

Tes is supporting a laughing Synne by the time Keller and the rookies escape your view, and only Miss Alekto isn't smiling like some sort of bandit fresh from a successful heist. "Is this normal behavior?"
>>
>>30351415

Dent turns toward the astropath, slapping his hand onto her shoulder with a laugh. "Only for Keller. He's so obsessed with Sly Marbo that he'll probably kill himself trying to act out one of his little fantasies with a demo pack!"

"Well, let's head after them before they get lost. Keller will have those rookies exhausted if he keeps running them like that all day." says Ana, her arms up as she pulls her hair together and ties it behind her head with a bit of cloth.

It takes nearly three hours for your group to catch up to Keller, your friend unsuccessfully attempting to act like he hadn't run himself to near exhaustion. Orsola gives Keller a quick inspection and then begins to search the local area for samples as most of your group takes a short break with Keller, though you decide to press on in search of the rookies with Synne, Tes and Miss Alekto. The three women tend to lag slightly behind you, Tes often assisting Synne through rougher parts of terrain or thicker foliage, while Miss Alekto simply seems to stop often to study a plant or seemingly random object before quickly moving back within a meter or so of you. When she collects a small reptile that you hadn't spotted upon a branch, you stop and turn toward her.

"Find something of interest, Miss Alekto?"

"I believe Miss Magnus will find an interest in this creature, Captain Aurex. Its patterning has changed as you walked past."

"Some sort of active camouflage? Well my dear, as you are the creature's discoverer, you may have the privilege of naming it."

You both look toward the reptile, which seems to be trying it's best to match the borrowed outfit that Miss Alekto sports. In a flurry of movement the creature scurries up the woman's arm and seeks the limited cover provided by her shirt's collar, blending more readily into the solid colors present there. With a minute smile the astropath addresses the eyebrow you've raised at her lack of a reaction to the event. "It is a simple enough creature to suggest things to, Captain Aurex. I believe I'll take my time to think of a name for its kind."

Both of you jump slightly at the sound of a lasrifle's crack, the report quite near and from further upstream. Tes and yourself are reflexively scanning the surrounding area for movement, weapons raised, when the first cry of victory follows the shot. "Sounds like the Rookies found themselves something to eat." says Tes, her stance relaxing as un-alarmed cheers follow. As you look East, you notice that the sun is growing dangerously close toward the mountains beyond the massive lake.

Time to pitch camp and cook dinner.

Camp on high ground with plenty of visibility around, cook in a area 50 yards away from where we sleep (doesn't have to be on the high ground). Split the party into shifts and have them keep guard around the camp during the night.
>>
The rookies beam as your little group finds them gathered around what can only be described as a small boulder of fur with a woman standing atop it. The light-haired woman appears to be the one that Keller struck with a rock at the beginning of the day. "Captain Aurex! I think I've found dinner." she says, hefting her lasgun over her shoulder.

"Quite a kill. Mister Keller and the others won't be far behind and this world's sun is nearing the mountain tops. Have you located any suitable camp sites nearby?"

"Aye, Captain. There is a bit of high ground a bit up the river, and it overlooks the bend with cliffs about a man's height."

"Sounds like the best we'll find with the amount of trees and ground cover here. Tes will supervise a detail to butcher your kill, and the rest of us will move on and set up camp."

By the time darkness begins to descend upon the foothills you've got a defenseable camp set up and enough wood for a healthy fire working to cook the meat from your armswoman's kill. Orsola is finishing her dissection of the creature's paws and head, extracting the formidable teeth and claws for the woman that made the kill. You're impressed by the single shot that felled the beast, a hole burned into the creature's brain through the base of the jaw. Unfortunately, it seems that the day's hero is having quite some trouble sitting after Keller's rock put a plate-sized bruise across her buttocks.

"So where were the rest of you while this beast charged at Terina?" asks Keller, pointing a particularly dagger-like rock at several of the rookies.

"They were lagging behind. You only hit me with your damned rocks!"
>>
>>30353223

Seconded predators might be drawn to the sound though and Hariso might try something especially because of how that deal went

But this seems safer then traveling at night
>>
"Sounds like Marbo has a crush!" says Synne, grinning impishly at your red-faced Master-at-Arms. "Why you little!" Keller stops himself as your sister points toward you, her grin only growing. Playing the part, you pull your laspistol from it's holster and gently tap it against your leg, looking at Keller with a perfectly straight glare.

Armswoman Terina sighs, laying upon her side to avoid sitting. "Rocks are not foreplay, Marbo. And I swear I'll shoot your dick off if you so much as try to make a move on me during this adventure."

Nearly an hour later Keller gets a break from the various women tormenting him, much to the amusement of both you and the few other men present, when Tes declares that dinner is ready.

The camp is still dark when Ana and Keller begin to rouse those still asleep, the sky already blue as the mountains shield you from direct sunlight. Your body aches, especially your legs, but you manage to enjoy a decent breakfast between the rations and yesterday's kill. Synne and Ana seem to be handling yesterday's hiking best of all, but you and Tes are on the opposite end of the spectrum. Only a few hours into hiking you both find yourselves toward the rear of the group, Miss Alekto lingering with you while Synne indulges in a bit of hero worship with the armswoman Terina toward the front of the pack. They're probably about the same age, when you think about it.

"So have you thought of a name for your friend, Miss Alekto?"

"I released the creature last night, Captain Aurex." With a soft smile, she assists Tes through a particularly troublesome cluster of boulders. "I did, however, come to a conclusion about our earlier conversation. I'd like to join your crew and be your ship's astropath, if you'll have me."

Tes rustles the astropath's hair a bit as thanks for her assistance, looking toward you. "Are you sure about that, dear? His obsession with hats really is as strange as we've been trying to tell you! Look, he's even wearing the damned thing during this hike!"

"I was told it suited me and that it was made specifically for me, Tes. It is a perfectly fine hat for any occasion."

Miss Alekto tilts her head for a moment, bringing her hand to her chin and tapping at her cheek with her pointer finger. "It does suit him perfectly, but I'm not quite sure how to explain it."

Tes frowns and then raises an eyebrow at the other woman. "You're not just as mad as him, are you?"

"Now now, Tes. There is only room for one madman aboard my ship, and that will always be myself. I'm sure Miss Alekto simply has tastes you should take a page from. Welcome aboard, Miss Alekto."

Both women smile and the next few hours see more small conversation between the three of you, mostly Alekto asking about the finer points of your life of piracy or asking what you or Tes actually sees when you look at a plant or rock encountered. She never quite mentions what she... sees, however, and you learn little of her as a person or of her powers. Every few hours you catch sight of Orsola and a pair of armsmen assisting her in collecting samples of one plant or another before they hurry forward.

Toward the end of the day Tes has all but stripped her clothing off, and both you and Alekto have your own clothing open as the air grows oppresively humid and warm. "Damn it why is it suddenly so hot?" says Tes, wiping sweat from her brow with the back of her arm. "Ugh! This sucks more than... Percius? What was that one woman's name? Slept with everyone in Elise's platoon and started working her way through Keller's before she bought it?"

"Fanny, wasn't it?"

"Yeah! Fanny. This sucks more than Fanny, and I don't mean the children's word!" says Tes with a laugh.

"If we make enough progress in altitude the air should cool, Miss Tes." Alekto likewise wipes her brow, though she has the sense to use an article of clothing for the deed.

"Just be glad the water is cold and we're protected from direct sunlight, Tes. Once we make camp we'll be able to cool off in the river."

Your group continues to climb the more inclined terrain, toward the sound of voices and following the clear trail of your fellows. "What I wouldn't give for a nice, deep pool I can jump into and." Tes pauses as she looks over what seems to be the crest of the incline. "Praise the Emperor! Ask and ye shall receive!" Tes hurriedly assists you and Alekto toward the top of the incline, the sound of a small waterfall greeting you along with the sight of the rest of your group setting up camp beside the blessed sight of a deep, if murky, pool of water.

After quickly setting up camp your entire party moves to enjoy the refreshingly cold water, Keller and Terina quickly moving to chat with you. Once again your camp rises as the Western peaks hide you from the sunlight, a thin layer of clouds shielding the blue sky from your view. The terrain is more level as you head South-East, though you're forced to cross a few vallies that take a toll upon your speed.

As the day draws to an end you again consult with Keller and Terina about their scouting during this dreadfully uneventful day. "Cliffs, cliffs and more cliffs." says Keller, taking a swig from his canteen. "At least today was cooler than yesterday. Without the water around we'd be in trouble with another day like that." says Terina. "Some of my people thought they spotted the end of the cliffs South of us, but they could just dog-leg back on us."

The next day is much the same, but Terina's people seem to have been correct about the cliffs. Toward the end of the day you once again find your party advancing up hill and the temperature encouraging Tes of all people to don a few additional articles of clothing.

Camping upon the crest of a small rise, your party surveys the surrounding landscape as the sun begins to set behind the Eastern Mountains. To the West the land continues to slope upwards, the stream clearly visible toward the Southern end of the pass. A hill blocks it from your view to the South, but your map allows you to trace it's path until you can spot it in the distance to the East. Beyond the stream you can spot more cliffs to the South.

As you look around the surrounding area you notice Terina and your sister Synne watching the sunset to the East, Keller and Orsola chatting beside one of the campfires, and finally Tes cleaning some of her equipment.

Tes looks up from her lasrifle as you approach, offering a weary smile and scooting herself down the log she has taken up residence upon. "Enjoying yourself, Captain?"

"Of course, Tes. Yourself?"

"Just enjoying that ache in my legs and praising my weapon's spirit. Orsola ordered it during our hike today." She carefully restores her lasgun with a quiet prayer and rams home a charge pack. "So Orsola thinks it will be cold tonight." One of her lecherous smiles creeps across her face as she glances over toward Synne.

"Oh? and how might you keep warm tonight? Keep in mind that if you lay a finger on my sister, before she lays one on you, I will remove it."

Tes silently gapes at your words, as if you'd wounded her. "And how do you know she hasn't?"

"Because you're a predator, not prey, Tes. Don't bullshit the bullshit artist."

"Well then I'd guess that I'll have to settle for someone else to warm me up tonight. Looks like she's making herself a new friend." She laughs at your sour look. "You need to lay off the overprotective brother act, Percius. She's older than you were when we met."

"I order you to take that back." you say, giving Tes' shoulder a friendly knock with your fist.

The night brings a chill to your camp, and you're awoken after your watch by cool cloth and flesh pressing worming under your arm and against the warmth of your chest. Tes' voice is soft and betrays the chill she must have felt during her watch. "You offered." By the time you've come up with a witty remark Tes' form is far too warm for you to bother.

Ana wakes the two of you in the morning with a sly grin. "Don't worry, you're not the only ones that were cold. But I am waking you first."

By the time Synne extracts herself from a small tangle of cold armsmen, you've got a warm cup of powdered recaff waiting for her. "I hope that was as innocent as it didn't look, young Miss."

"Emperor, I hate you sometimes."

Tes and Ana eventually come to your sister's rescue, dragging you away to collect your gear before sweet Synne's face becomes permanently red. Within the hour your party is moving carefully up the incline toward the heights of the cliffs, Terina leading a small scouting party ahead while the remainder of the rookies anchor ropes at various points to assist with moving gear up a few more difficult sections of terrain.

Just after mid-day your party is taking a short break upon an outcropping of boulders, each the size of one of your lighters. The wind is picking up from the South-East, and you can see the snow-covered peaks in that direction beginning to shed plumes of snow with distant gusts. Orsola tends to a few bruises among Ana and Keller after the latter caught your self-appointed bodyguard during a short fall.

"Medicae!"

Everyone is on their feet as a pair of the scouts hurry back, the lead rookie shouting repeatedly until comes within a reasonable speaking distance. "Captain Aurex! Terina is hurt and we spotted something due West of our position, sir! We think it was steam!"

"Where is she, what happened and how bad?"

"Maybe an hour ahead of this position, Captain. A branch or something swiped her and it seems like her calf is impaled on a root coming from the ground." He catches his breath for a moment, placing his palm upon the side of his forehead. "We tried to move her, but the damned thing is in there good."

Synne's voice is oddly excited by this turn of events, but she does draw your attention with a cry of "Percius, look!" Dark clouds are beginning to rise above the peaks to the South-East, and cold, white flakes are beginning to drift around your people. Quickly vanishing upon contact with any object, they seem to leave only a touch of wetness behind.

One of the rookies is carrying a long-range backpack voxcaster, and you have an astropath that should be able to contact both captured astropaths from the transport or Lord Wilson's astropaths, both of which are in orbit.

Other than that, you've been carefully staying near landmarks like rivers/cliffs to avoid getting lost.
>>
>>30371355
right, in that case, I'll change my vote in >>30371224 to bringing Ana, Orsola and 4 rookies with us with one scout leading us to Terina, and we double time it to get there fast, while the other scout leads Keller and the others behind us at normal pace.

"Right then, you." Motioning to the scout that seems to be most out of breath, you point him toward Keller. "Keller is in charge, catch your breath and then lead everyone toward Miss Terina's location. Ana, Orsola, you four." You point to four of the rookies originally with your group before sticking out your thumb and jabbing it over your shoulder. "On me, double time. The longer we wait the worse she'll be."

The dark clouds to the South-East seem to boil above the peaks as you move, and the wind grows colder as a white blur seems to move toward your position. "Pick up the pace, people! We're looking at a time limit!"

Your advance group is panting by the time it encounters Terina and one of the armsmen left to guard her. The wounded woman's leg is bent at the knee, her body resting in what seems to be a natural ditch. The root impaled through her upper calf seems to have her twisted awkwardly, the damned thing probably about half the thickness of your wrist and pointed wickedly toward the sky. "Where is the other one?"

Terina tries to turn and face you, but a pained grunt sees the end of her attempt. "I sent him to the next ridge to investigate what we spotted rising above it, Captain. Figured he'd get some wood for a fire on his way back."

"We should leave the root within the wound. Removal risks excessive blood loss." says Orsola, her hands and medicae mechadendrite probing at Terina's leg. Without further pleasantries, she cuts away the woman's pant leg and uses it to bind the root securely in place before calling over a pair of armsmen to hold the root in place. A multitool's blade has soon cut through the offending portion of the plant, and Terina moved to more level ground. As Orsola cuts a few nearby tree limbs to fashion a splint for the wounded leg, you sit upon a moss-covered, tree trunk that must have fallen ages ago. The cold, wet feeling of the moss bites at your flesh, but your feet are thankful for even a moment's respite from standing.

You watch the South-East as the mountain peaks vanish into the white blur encroaching towards your position, the treetops far above you filling the land with noise as wind rattles them. It will likely take two or three hours for the white blur to reach you, but you can clearly see that more of the white flakes are falling around your position and some are even lingering upon plants or the ground.

Orsola finishes splinting Terina's legs together to prevent further injury as the armsman sent to scout the next ridge returns. "Captain Aurex, I believe there is a cave and there is definately a hotspring West of our location, maybe an hour and a half's travel. It would shelter us from the winds coming from the South-East, I believe."

"One of us will have to carry the wounded if we're to move from this location, Captain." says Orsola.

Your group gets a bit of rest while awaiting Keller's group to catch up with the voxcaster and Miss Alekto, and you immediately contact your vessel in orbit. "Negative, Captain. You've got a massive storm coming in from the South-East. A lighter can't fly through the wind you'll be experiencing." Elise audibly sighs across the vox, probably as she looks at the storm coming your way. "What kind of terrain do you have available for shelter?"

"A scout says there is a cave and hotspring to the West that we should be able to reach. I was going to move us there and bunker down."

"Just make sure you don't get burried inside if the snowfall is big enough, Captain. Your fire will poison you if the snow completely blocks the entrance. If you have time, collect boughs from the trees to add to your bedding and try to block off most of the cave entrance; just don't put them too close to your fire. And for Emperor's sake make sure you dry your clothes off once you bunker down!"

"Got it. See you on the other end of this, Miss Eberhardt."

Your party moves West as fast as it can, armsmen alternating who is carrying Miss Terina and her pack to keep themselves from tiring. As snow begins to fall in ernest and blanket the surrounding trees and ground, you arrive at the cave and quickly get everyone to work collecting wood and boughs from the surrounding area while others set up camp. By the time the heavy snow arrives your people have built a respectable berm of boughs, complete with a number of upright boughs to hopefully ward off the worst of the wind from entering the cave. A healthy supply of wood was collected from a pair of dead, fallen trees near the cave, and most of you have a respectable amount of boughs to keep you off the cold, stone ground.

The fire crackles and pops as Keller adds a section of a live tree he'd felled with one of his detonation packs, Tes and Synne still glaring at him sourly for nearly scaring the skin from their bodies. Orsola has produced a dry robe for herself from a sealed bag in her pack, though the majority of your party is shivering around the fire's warmth in their wet clothing. "Ugh, this is taking too long!" says Keller, peeling his shirt from his body with some effort and tossing it at his nearby tent where it sticks to the thin fabric.

Orsola looks over curiously before looking at Keller with flatly. "If you hang that article, the fire will dry it more quickly than a puddle."

In moments most of your group is stripped down to their undergarments, a few only keeping those on after your sister Synne's face turns bright red and she awkwardly falls over while trying to remove her outer-most layers of clothing. "Ow."

Grabbing Tes and a pair of the more able looking armsmen you craft a few crude torches and investigate beyond the cave's initial open area. Following the winding path perhaps a dozen meters, your little group locates only a chamber that holds a sharp, vaguely crystal-like shape. Beyond that oddity, you find nothing beyond small, crab-like critter that one of your armsmen skewers upon a knife. "Little extra food sounds good right about now."

After making a few circuits around and walks across the chamber, you conclude it is roughly ten meters wide and takes the shape of an octagon that likely ends in a point somewhere beyond the light of your torches.

"We're going to head back, Captain. The chill is a bit much for us." says one of the armsmen. Tes simply shrugs. "I'm warm enough if you are, Captain. Not like we'll be ambushed by tiny crabs." You're quite certain she is feeling the same chill as you are, her undergarments doing little to hide her modesty or the fact that she is covered in goosebumps.

"Send Keller and Miss Alekto back here, would you?"

You continue your search within the chamber with Tes, the woman soon hugging her breasts with her arms even as she holds her torch. "The cold isn't natural in here, Percius." She shivers, pulling the torch a bit closer to herself. "The torch isn't even warm."

"Once Keller and Athena get here we'll make our search quick, Tes. Then you can sit next to the fire and flirt with all the rookies."

Tes offers a forced smile, rubbing her arms against herself. "You owe me a day to enjoy the hotsprings and not do any work for this, so I can tease them and be warm at the same time."

"Sounds doable."

"And a promotion."

"Now that we'll have to chat about when we're both dressed and not cold."

Keller and Athena arrive after you've completed two more circuits of the chamber, your Master-at-Arms letting out a long whistle as he surveys the chamber. "Well this is quite an oddity you've found, Captain. Any idea what it is?"

You simply shrug, watching as Keller and Miss Alekto walk along one of the walls, the astropath pausing to stroke the crisp edge where it meets the next. Keller continues on, but you notice that Miss Alekto seems to be tracing a finger along the wall in strange patterns that your eyes can't make sense of.
>>
"I don't, but Miss Alekto seems to have found something."

The woman jumps slightly at your words, noticing that everyone has suddenly turned toward her. "Umm... Well, I believe that this was once an astropathic choir chamber. The walls once held wards to protect against phenomena associated with the songs of my brothers and sisters." She closes her empty eyelids, pressing her hand against the wall and causing one of the runes to reveal itself in a pale red light. A moment later you hear her voice within your head as if she were singing. "This is all I dare demonstrate, Captain Aurex, with the chamber's floor filled with the dirt and debris we stand upon." A moment later she has fallen to her knees, a hand upon her head as she gasps for breath as if struck in the chest. Keller approaches to assist, but soon stops as he notices a stream of visible breath escape her form, filling the entire chamber and all four of you with a chilling layer of frost.

"What in the Emperor's name was that!?" asks Tes, her form shivering even as the frost upon your bodies melts to water.

"Hoarfrost. It is one of the more common psychic phenomena in my case." Alekto struggles to her feet, her breath still visible in the light of Keller's torch, along with... well, suffice to say that little of her body is left to the imagination of any present and that the multitude of small scars upon her do not seem to end. Emperor have mercy.

Keller visibly shakes for a moment, as if attempting to shed his skin. "Well, I'm ready to go back to the fire and be warm. What about you?"

While we sit around the fire getting dry lets see if Miss Aleko has any ideas what an astropathic choir chamber is is doing in the middle of an uninhabited wilderness
>>
bump/test
>>
Returning to the camp to dry and warm yourselves, you add your torch to the fire and sit yourself beside Miss Alekto as her seemingly frail form shivers. As Keller instructs the rookies to maintain a watch of the cave's depths, you notice Ana hanging two sets of undergarments to dry before sitting next to a very nervous looking Synne. Orsola seems to be boiling some of her medicae tools in water over the fire while inspecting her patient's wound, while some of the rookies heat their rations. Tes sighs as she sits beside you, shivering a bit more than earlier. "Snow is getting deep outside."

"Cold night ahead of us, then. Lets hope the wind doesn't change too much and blow down what protection we managed to erect."

As the three of you begin to warm and dry beside the fire, you glance at the astropath beside you. "Miss Alekto, would you happen to have any theories to explain why an astropathic choir chamber might be present upon this world? I'm afraid my knowledge is a bit lacking in such areas."
>>
Pulling her arms a bit higher over herself, Miss Alekto thinks for a moment. "I'm sure you know of the Imperial dating system, Captain Aurex. In official records, it is slightly different. The first number is a check number, followed by three numbers constituting the year fraction, followed by three constituting the year, and then the Millennium. The Check Number is due to Astropaths and the fact that all official documentation of events is done in relation to Holy Terra. The lower this number is, the fewer degrees of separation between the event and Holy Terra's adepts." She pulls a small twig from the edge of the fire, blowing the tip out and using the ash to draw a series of dots upon the ground between you and then numbering them. "A check number of zero or one means that the event occurred upon Holy Terra or within the Sol system; a two means that an astropath reported the event directly to Sol; a three represents an event reported first to a two source. Four means that there was astropathic contact with a two or three source; five contact with a four; six contact with a five." She draws four larger circles, placing the numbers seven, eight and nine within them. "Seven is where events become more subjective in time, as something may have delayed communications or there may simply have been excessive relays in the transmissions. Anything marked with a Check Number of seven should be considered to be inaccurate by a decade before or after the given date. Eight is inaccuracy of plus or minus two decades, and finally nine is generally reserved for dates that cannot be precisely verified. Events during warp travel or upon planets with a dating system that deviates greatly from the Imperial system."

"I suspect you'll have to tell me this again sometime, Miss Alekto, but I fail to see how that answers the presence of the chamber."
>>
"This world was once used as a relay point for astropathic communications, Captain Aurex. It is simply the only answer possible. For who or what, I can not say."

No, a single chamber warded to protect astropaths while using their powers.

I was thinking of streamlining the privateer quest story line. Condensing it by taking Machine Spirit's narrative bits and stringing them together without all the discussion and dice rolls. Then put up a PDF of the previous weeks thread at the beginning of the next weeks and of course putting it on the wiki. Would anyone be interested in this?

I've actually got all of my posts in a wordpad file. I'll edit my notes from them over the weekend and put a link up on the wikia, if you'd like.
