"Mr. Russells?" The teacher askes. "Mr. Russells!" Looking over at him his gaze is fixed ahead, a glazed over look in his eyesn. He blinks slowly before he finally seems to respond, turning to the teacher before blinking again.

"I'm sorry, what?" Russells says quietly, just barely coming to his senses and looking around.

You are Miho Nishizumi, captain of Oorai's Senshado team and commander of its Panzerkampfwagen IV and you've got a terrible, terrible feeling that this is your fault. Russells had left practice early- he'd silently trudged into class a couple of minutes late and wordlessly taken his seat.

And for the entire class until now he'd stared ahead, jaw slack, barely even blinking. "Are you feeling well?" The teacher asks, to which Russells gives a half-hearted nod. "I'm not convinced- go see the nurse, please." Russells, abnormal for his usual American-Firebrand self, nods silently before standing up to wander out the door.

You raise your hand as Russells trudges towards the door. "Ma'am, I'd like to go with him-" You say, standing up. "I'll make sure he gets to the nurse's office!" You make it sound very official.

"Very well." The teacher says. "Straight there, though!" She warns- evidently news travels fast- you'd only admitted publically that he was your boyfriend on Friday. You're a responsible student, though- she knows you wouldn't ditch class for some boy unless you were really worried.

So you take Russells by the shoulder and head for the Nurse's office downstair, when you're out of earshot of the classroom you turn to him. "Russells- What's wrong?" You ask urgently. But he doesn't really respond so much as makes a low groaning sound before screwing his eyes shut and opening them again.

Also we can give Russels emergency hugs as needed.

Granted him freaking out because he walked in on two old people asleep in a bed together was pretty lame, I mean its not like he walked in on them in the throes of orgasm, or in the midst of actually fucking. Jesus kid get over yourself people will fuck until they are literally physically unable to
>>

His lacks of a response quickens your step- despite his longer gate his lethargy makes it difficult for him to keep up with you as you rush him downstairs to the Nurse's office. You open the door and step in, dragging Russells in with you. "Nurse? Russells isn't feeling well- I think he needs some rest."

The nurse walks over to him, and begins looking him over- taking his pulse and feeling his forehead. "He looks terrible, but his pulse is normal and he's not running a fever..." She says suspiciously, but when she sees your worried look she capitulates. "Take him to one of the cots, I suppose."

You lead him into the darkened side room- the same room you'd gone to in the first week of school when you'd been forced to face your own emotional issues with Senshado. Saori, Hana and Russells had comforted you back then- "Nurse, can I stay and look after him?" You ask as you set him down on one of the beds. They're designed to comfortably hold a Japanese schoolgirl: Russells American schoolboy makes them a bit small, but he doesn't seem to care much.

"Fine- but I better not catch anything going on in there..." The Nurse comments coarsely, causing you blush furiously. You'd never...

Russells just lays there, staring up at the ceiling blankly while you put a blanket over him. He makes momentary eye contact and you see the terror there. He looks as though he's screaming with his eyes, but his voice is still silent. "It's okay, Russells..." You say, rubbing his shouler comfortingly. "I'm here!"

He quivers slightly- but you just pull up a chair and sit by him, occasionally stroking his shoulder or head to reassure him. Eventually he starts to relax a bit. "M-Miho..." He finally says, practically choking.

You lean in. "Russell's... Are you okay?" You ask, as he looks at you.

You're quiet, just letting Russells go at his own pace. "What happened?" You ask quietly, "What did you see?" You brace yourself for some sort of event that would be horrible and emotionally scarring to shut down Russells like it did. You put a hand on his shoulder to reassure him as he starts to speak.

"Well... During practice Mako showed up and said that her grandmother had been checked out from the hospital last night..." He begins, slowly at first but then speeding up as he goes. "And my Grandfather hadn't showed up for the ferry last night..." He pauses. "I didn't really think of it at the time- he's his own man so if he wanted to take an earlier or later ferry that's him. Anyway... Since he and Grandma Reizei knew each other we thought maybe they'd gone back to my house..."

You nod. "And you never got home last night so..."

"When I went to get dressed this morning I didn't even think to check anything, just got dressed and headed to practice with you..." He shivers. "When we went and looked for them though..." He starts to freeze up again, closing his eyes tightly. "I knocked! I did! But when I opened the door..." He shivers again. "I saw things that cannot be unseen, Miho."

Russells puts on a brave smile. "I know, right?" He says. "Oh god... I just can't unsee it..." he says, turning to face you. "I can honestly say that was the most horrific thing I've ever seen."

You giggle a bit more before something occurs to you. "Wait, what happened to Mako?" You ask- had she seen it too? Was there a more-catatonic-than-usual-Mako shivering and weeping somewhere on campus?

Russells shakes his head. "I don't know- she left before me." He says, thinking. "She definately got an eyefull though- She bolted out of the house. right afterwords." He stops and looks at you. "Should we go find her?"

Well, I'm the Eurotanks guy, so I was trying to come up with some way for PCs to do politicking towards stuff like ban lists or changing the mechanics of tankery. Would also have been handy for extending it to WW2/Cold War strategic attitudes.

As for tank stat explanations, see pic. There's a list of sources in the bottom of the doc.

March, 1945
Somewhere North of Dusseldorf

"orders coming in. One moment..."

'Oh? And what suicide mission has High Command found for us now?'

"Orders recieved. We're to turn around and return to base. The forward defenses are overrun."

'Ja, ja. One way, then the other.' Aldman snorted as his crew turned their tank around and retreated back up the road they'd spent the last hour driving on. Wasted fuel, wasted time, wasted effort-Aldman was no stranger to these things, and he voiced such concerns loudly and frequently.

This would have been a problem if his words could be heard by any one of the crew. They were loyal, all of them, and young enough not to understand Aldman's expressiveness. In fact, they were too young to even grow beards, to his worried dismay. He loved his crew, and would be more than ready to lay down his life for them, but he knew they wouldn't understand if they heard one of his tirades out loud.

They never did, of course, for Aldman wasn't on the crew, or leading it. He was the tank itself.

Not all tanks reflected on their own existence, but Aldmanwas old-he had been around long enough to do so, and as he retraced his own tracks for what seemed to be the hundredth time that month (High Command had firmly entrenched their turrets up their exhaust pipes, it seemed), he found himself doing so again.

He'd been 'born', insofar as the phrase could be applied to a Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausf. D medium tank, in the Krupp Steel works in Essen, in the summer of 1939. No sooner had his steel plates finished cooling than he'd been shipped off to the Polish border for the suprise invasion, the Blitzkrieg.

Aldman didn't have a name then; he'd just been Hull no. 4. He'd been proud of that, of course-a single-digit hull number was a privelege, and he bore it with the courage befitting a good work of German engineering.

Aldman rolled over a fallen log, fitting his treads into the ruts he'd dug in the bark a few hours earlier. It was only six years ago, that summer. And yet it felt like millenia.

He'd served in nearly every theatre that the Fatherland involved themselves in. He'd led the charge in Poland, as one of the newest tanks of the field, smashing aside the inferior Polish defenses. No sooner had that been done with than he'd been shipped back across Germany for the invasion of France. That was the first time Aldman saw the Ardennes forest. The battles themselves blurred together as time went on.

It was in Africa that Hull no. 4 got his name. By now, there were Ausf. E's and Ausf. F's around, and being one of the few front-line tanks made before the war made him something of an oddball. One of the mechanics started calling him 'Das Aldman', 'The Old Man', after his engine started to misbehave due to the sand, and soon everyone was doing it. Aldman found it annoying-he didn't FEEL old. He was just as good a panzer as the next tank!

Evidently, someone didn't agree with him, and Aldman was sent to France in 1941 to reinforce the Atlantic Wall, while all the new tanks went East. He hated being sidelined, grumbling silently every day that his crew just lounged about in the french countryside drinking wine and ogling the women. He was a TANK! Built for WAR, not play! He found himself wishing for an enemy to fight.

For over a year this went on. Then, Aldman found himself back in the desert. By now he was a seasoned tank, and the nickname didn't bother him any more. What did bother him was the fact that he was AGAIN left in reserve; he never ended up on the front line with the bigger, heavier tanks. Some smartass in the command tent had noticed his hull number and decided he was 'a defensive asset'. What idiocy! Das Aldman started to feel more like a platoon mascot than a fighting vehicle. By the time someone said Africa was lost within earshot of him, he'd fired a total of twelve shells since his arrival on the continent. Sure, they'd all been hits, but the pointlessness of it left him feeling bitter.

Again, Aldman found himself in france, sitting and waiting. Again he wished for an enemy to fight. Something, anything to kill the boredom.

In 1944, the boredom died a painful death on the coast of Normandy.

Aldman quickly regretted his wish. For the next year he found himself outnumbered and, increasingly, outgunned. Being left away from the front lines and never being hit, he'd never been scheduled for a refit or upgrade, and by the time he actually needed one, it was too late-retreats were near-constant, and every time his crew put the request forward, the supply officer would comment in his nasal Bavarian accent (there was more than one, of course, but they ALL seemed to have annoying, nasal Bavarian accents) that the 50mm KwK 39 L/60 was entirely capable of penetrating the armor of the Sherman tanks they were facing.

Which was true-it was. At painfully close range.

By the time the allies crossed the Rhine, Aldman sourly wondered why he wasn't dead yet. The glory of battle had long since worn thin on him. He'd been shot at so many times it was a miracle he still had any original armor plates. He'd shot so many shells it was a miracle he still had his original gun barrel. He felt like a museum piece.

He felt tired. So very tired...

"Hey, we've got a problem here." One of the young boys snapped Aldman out of his navel-gazing. It was the driver speaking. "We were going to refuel at the forward depot, right? Well, we didn't, and we might run out of fuel before we get back to base."

"Okay, slow us down." Replied the commander, the only one with even a modicum of facial hair. "The engine won't use as much fuel if we drive more slowly."

Now, Aldman genuinely worried. Slowing down meant the enemy-who was undoubtedly in persuit, now that the forward defense had been taken-might catch up to them. But speeding up would run the fuel even more ragged. He hoped the commander's bet would pay off.

Those hopes were dashed as the commander suddenly shouted in alarm. "Enemy spotted! Armored car to the rear!"

Aldman's turret spun around as his engine spun up, and sure enough, an American M8 Greyhound had crested the hill behind them. Running at full speed, the much lighter scout vehicle caught up with the big tank easily, and began shooting at Aldman's rear armor with its 37mm turret.

"Damn Amerikana! Shut him up!" Yelled the commander, and Aldman obliged by blowing the little car's front wheel off with an HE shell. The young crewmen cheered, and Aldman joined their jubiliation with the roar of his engine, but their reverie was short lived, as no less than three Sherman tanks crested the hill. The enemy was upon them.

Now there was no concern for fuel conservation. The driver urged Aldman to his fastest, and Aldman strained his v12 Maybach to its redline. Slowly they began to pull away from the enemy, Aldman's leaf spring suspension allowing him to maintain his speed better on the bumpy German road.

Again the crewmen cheered. Aldman, however, did not-he was too tired. He could feel it now-the burst of speed had claimed the last of his fuel reserves, and he was starting to shut down, numbness creeping into his extremities. The driver was the first to notice the sputtering of Aldman's engine, and panicked, working the controls furiously. His frenzied movements did more harm than good-Aldman's overtaxed, underfueled engine lurched and siezed, and with a spectral cry of pain, he skidded to a stop.

The world rolled in and out of his perception as Aldman's consciousness faded in and out. He faintly percieved his crew jumping free of the tank and dissapearing into the bushes, with the commander taking a moment to look back at him before fleeing. He thought he heard the young man say, "I'm sorry."

Aldman did not realize the words came from himself, as his mind fell into darkness.

Whoops. here's the proper version.
>>

I liked it, and I'm looking forward to reading more.
Two small details, though:
1) I doubt Aldman could have a hull number THAT low. Still, low hundreds would be "good enough"
2) The Panzer IV D was armed with a 7.5cm KwK37 L/24, not a 50mm (in fact, the 50mm was not fitted to tanks (Panzer IIIs) until after France).

Still, I choose to creatively misread those parts, and it looks good.
>>
>>30388529
>50mm KwK 39 L/60
I thought these were only mounted on Panzer IIIs? Or Pumas, but that's irrelevant right now.

Nope. the 5cm KwK 39 L/60 was the first production gun mounted on the IV Ausf. D turret. It's the snub-nosed gun seen on most Pz IV D's, including Miho's. Aldman served the entire war without ever having a major refit, so he kept the gun until long after it was inadequate.

>>30388649
Only ~250 IV D's were ever made, and Aldman was one of the first, since production began in summer of 1939. His hull number would have been spectacularly low due to this, so I decided to make a plot point out of it.

I took a week to research this. It's as accurate as my idiot brain could make it, while still canonically plausible.
>>
>>30388745
>It's the snub-nosed gun seen on most Pz IV D's, including Miho's.

But that's blatantly wrong.

A 50mm Gun was *tested* on a Panzer IV Ausf. D Chassis, after the Battle of France, but the order for them to go into production was cancelled before any were made.

The Ausf. D has only ever had the L/24 75mm gun fitted.
>>
>>30388745
>5cm KwK 39 L/60
>IV Ausf. D
>snub-nosed gun seen on most Pz IV D's

...

Do please perform some research, the L/60 part means the barrels calibers, as in, how long it is, which equates to 50mm (5cm gun) * 60 = a 3 metre long barrel

The only snub nosed guns mounted on III's and IV's were 7.5cm L/24's

Also, the 5cm gun was developed for anti tank duties on the III, which was designed to fight other tanks, while the IV, was fitted with the low velocity short barrel 7.5, until the G, F1 & F2 refits and upgrades, because it was an infantry support tank.

Here is an image crafted specially to illustrate how wrong you are.

Note how the 5cm L/60 is completely different in appearance from the 7.5cm gun that is *actually* on the Panzer IV Ausf. D.

Same here. It was a small hiccup in terms of suspension of disbelief, but not really all that detracting from the content. I still enjoyed it.

Maybe for kicks, I'll chalk it up to the requisitions guy not knowing what the hell he's actually talking about.
That'll certainly make Aldman and his crew's frustrations all the more striking.

BUT I DID DO R...ahhhh, shoot. You're right, as usual. I should have noticed something was up when the caliber number was 60 on a snubbie.

I'll edit my notepad file so the model number is the KwK 37 L/24. Otherwise it still makes sense: a short barreled gun like that would have been pretty darn good at the war's inception, and comically inadequate by the conclusion.

I fell in love with the idea of him still having the original gun, even though it was almost useless, after finding the pic in >>30388474 ; It's the perfect shot of a tired, worn out tank who desperately needs some rest.

Your setting is so jumbled up. So he's a Japanese captain of a German, of a company? Is this an Army? If its an army captains are in control of a company sized unit.

Also where is the military bearing? Where are they where they can just walk into class late and its no big deal without getting fucked hardcore?

Also, I dont really think you get how the whole PTSD thing works either.

lol
>>

Well, she's the team Captain (Leader of the team) but she is the commander of the team's Pz.IV. In this case, commander isn't a rank, but a position within the tank.

Also, it's not an army- it's a highschool sport.
