Your newly expanded group sets off, Aslan carrying both the heavier bags and Zoe on his shoulder, Niklas carrying impmon, and Sally floating beside you.

You make excellent time, due mostly to the distribution of weight, and a set destination in mind.

You make your way out of the dusty plains that the river runs through, crossing through what you're almost certain is the edge of a Dead Zone, before reaching an area thriving with life. There are trees before you and to the sides, and though you pass through unmolested, you just know something is watching you. Nobody else mentions it, though, and so you continue on regardless.

You're almost to the point where you intend to meet Daniil at, when a high-pitched whistling pierces the air.

Aslan's ears twitch, and a second later, grabs your entire party with a roar of "GET BACK!"

and then there's a thunderous crash, and right where you were standing a moment ago, there is a massive rod, embedded in the solid earth at least more than a foot deep.

A growl behind you startles you right out of Aslan's grip.

"Now, who and what do we have here?"

You turn to face the voice, but are greeted by nothing but air.

“...Not the one who decided to attack first and ask questions later?” you venture, and the voice laughs, the gruffness giving way to a hooting cackle.

“Ha...aha, ah, you might be right,” They reply, and there’s a sudden blur of motion at the corner of your eye. You turn, but there’s only empty space where the staff used to be. That’s not good. Whoever or whatever it is, they’re armed again now. “You might be right. But that’s never any fun.”

You see Aslan set Zoe down off his shoulder, before protectively standing above her, ears and eyes constantly in motion. Impmon too looks ready for a fight, his hands alight. Sally… She still looks oddly serene, but the small runes beginning to carve themselves in the air indicate her readiness to fight.

“It’s much more fun when you ask them questions after a nice, long beatdown.”

And just like that, there’s a staff flying right at your head.

>DODGE: 20!
>Sally: 12x2

You don’t think- there’s no time to. You just throw yourself down on the ground, as the massive metal cudgel rips through the air you just vacated, an audible whooshing sound giving you an idea of just how heavy the thing is. Rather than get up, you stay down, motioning for the others to do so as well, and sure enough the staff comes spinning back overhead again, before vanishing into the foliage again.

“That was smart,” The voice muses, sounding a bit put out. “Had you tried to catch it, you’d prooobably not be among the living right now.” Sally rises slowly as the voice laughs again, a dark glare growing on her face.

“You nearly took my partner’s head off with that.” She states. There’s a pause, and then a slight rustling in the trees above you. Unfortunately, the trees are tall enough and large enough that you can’t see past the first few branches.

Sally lifts her arms, the runes following her motion as the circle completes itself.
“I don’t take kindly to threats to my partner.” She fires off a Balaluna without invoking its name, shredding part of the canopy overhead. There’s another blur of motion as a shadow leaps from the tree she aimed at to another, and then another, as every time it lands, your partner only shifts her aim, sending more devastating blasts the digimon’s way.

And all the while, the offending digimon is laughing his ass off. You can see Sally’s frustration growing more and more as she keeps pumping power into her spell, the circle growing brighter by the second.

At this rate, she’s going to completely deforest the area. Or worse.

Do we have to figure out the plan?
>>
>>30416831
You can, or you can ask another member of your group for one.
>>
>>30416853
Right.
Either way, we need to stop this - when your enemy is laughing without anything seeming to hit him, it's not worthwhile.

...How about Sally flies up and keep overwatch while we check if Daniil is still moving around?
Oh, or can we just spread a little water vapor around, so if this thing is invisible we can still see his outline?
>>
>>30416780
Tell her to calm down
>>
>>30416906
Yeah we need her calm - this isn't doing shit, given how the enemy is laughing his ass off.
...Can we get him pissed?
He has basically failed to hit a young dude on his own, that's pretty incompetent of him.

If we can get him to start growing angry, he can make mistakes.
>>
So general idea seems to be "tell Sally to calm down", I think?
>>
>>30416780
>>[] stop her now, form a new plan
>>
...Can't Impmon just set trees on fire?
And we've got Sally to stop any fire from spreading, so it shouldn't bother us that much?

Then whoever is laughing his ass off has a choice of dying through fire or coming out to face multiple Champions (given he's not out and mocking us openly, he likely isn't nearly as confident as he thinks) - because if he wants to stop the fire he has to reveal his location, which means Sally and Aslan can pounce and tear him to pieces.
>>
>>30417043

So, we all seem in favor of stopping Sally.

I'll get to that, then.
>>
Really, when you face an enemy like this, it's important not to do what makes them pleased.
Given this guy apparently enjoys Sally pulling this shit, we need another plan.
>>
When this is over, I'm going to vote for Sally torturuing this asho
...If he tries to attack, can't we hit him from wherever the attack comes from?
>>

>>
>[] stop her now, form a new plan

“Sally,” You reach out, grasping her shoulder. She looks at you in confusion, like she can’t understand why you’re stopping her. “We’ll never get anywhere like this, and you’re just wasting your strength.” She looks ahead to the havoc she’s wrought, before glancing back to you and nodding. The circle disappears, and she steps back, still scanning the treetops warily.

Meanwhile, you’re trying to think of a better approach than “raze the forest to the ground.” Several have come to you, but you have no idea how effective they’d be. Edging closer to Zoe, you relay several possibilities to your friend, who’s still being guarded by Aslan. Once you’re finished, she closes her eyes to think, and you can almost see her brain firing cylinders like crazy. After a couple moments, she looks back to you.

“Asking Sally to fly up isn’t a good idea. She’d be a clear target for anything else that’s out there, and we’d be out a capable fighter. And having her mist the area is almost worse- it’d be too damp for Impmon to do any fighting, and we might hamper our own visibility in the process.”

“Angering whoever is attacking us to get him to make a mistake has merit, but he could also be holding back on us, and making him mad might just make him stronger.” She spares Daniil’s partner an appraising look. “But getting Impmon to set the trees on fire? It’d eliminate his cover, and create a hazard he’d have to be careful of.”

>Enemy Digimon: 15

It takes but a moment for you to settle on the plan you want to use.

“Hey, Impmon,” You call.

“Da?” the little imp’s glare doesn’t subside as he meets your gaze. Little guy seems pretty annoyed. That he's picked up Daniil's native tongue kind of ruins the effect, though. It's kinda cute.

“Do you know how well your fire burns digital trees?” The grin that sprouts on the little digimon’s face could rival a shark’s.

“No, but I’m always ready to find out!” He yells in glee, already flinging fireballs into the trees around you. As it turns out, digital trees catch fire rather easily.

You motion your own partner closer, and speak in a hushed voice.

“I need you to be ready to put out the fires if they get too out of control. I don’t want to end up ruining the entire ecosystem here.” Your partner stifles a laugh while nodding, another of her runic circles already prepping.

By now, more trees are on fire than you care to count. Not only are they on fire, they’re on a LOT of fire. Smoke is quickly filling the air, and you’re already beginning to cough. Zoe, thankfully, thought to cover her face with the neck of her shirt, so she’s not getting anywhere near the worst of it. Through slightly watery eyes, you notice one of the trees move, before a flaming mass of fur and leather jumps out, howling and hooting as he tries to put out the fire on… on his tail.

Before you stands...a monkey. A very TALL monkey. His hair a stark white, and he’s dressed in clothes that look like they were taken off of a biker, complete with a leather jacket and combat boots. Over his undeniably modern clothes, however, are the remnants of what appears to be armor of some kind. His apeish face is set in a scowl as he pats the embers out of his furry appendage, before he turns to face you and your group. Suddenly, there’s a massive weight on your shoulder, and in the blink of an eye, he’s resting his staff on your shoulder, the only thing keeping it from crushing you being the hand he’s holding the other end with. His mirth is gone, a point made evident when he speaks.

“Nobody fucks with my tail.”

to the side, you can see Zoe staring in shock, despite the irritation to her eyes, while Sally is full-on glaring at this digimon that has you at his mercy. Aslan’s whole body is one coiled muscle, ready to strike at Zoe’s command, while Niklas and impmon are...standing their ground, surprisingly.

Reaching Ultimate level seems to require some deeper connection between partners, when a digivice is involved (naturally, as a digivice gives any digimon the potential to reach Mega, and lets points be spent on abilities, there's got to be some balancing point)

The weight on your shoulder is starting to ache more than a bit, and the monkey digimon’s not looking any less aggravated. Despite this, you can’t help but quip at him.

“Crushing my arm seems a bit disproportionate, don’t you think? Besides, didn’t you nearly kill me twice now?” The monkey huffs, but doesn’t lift the staff. You look over to sally, and urgently motion for her to douse the digimon’s still smoldering tail. She does so easily enough, though not without sending him a glare, and you a disapproving look. Noticing this, the giant primate lifts his staff from your shoulder to examine his extra limb, making sure it isn’t too badly burned.

“So,” You say, somewhat nervously, as the leather-decked monkey digimon looks at you with eyes narrowed, the expression mimicking the x-shaped scar between his eyes. “Are we just gonna stand here and watch the forest burn?” ignoring Impmon’s sardonic reply of “Yes!”

“You’re the one who started them.” The antagonizing digimon points out, to which you merely shrug.

“And it got you out of the trees. That doesn’t mean I want to destroy the whole forest.” The monkey looks at you for a minute, before laughing again, and nodding.

“Yes, yes, that’s true.”

Sally takes this opportunity to vent some of her frustration, blasting the fires around you with her aquary pressure… a tad harder than you believe is necessary, but you’re not gonna stop her again. To your continued surprise, the digimon you were just fighting begins to spin his staff, the gusts of wind following the arcs the weapon makes flaring and then burning out the remaining fires. His skill with the staff is such that his hands don’t even appear to be moving, made even more impressive by how heavy you know the staff is.
>>
>>30419897
When all the embers are doused and dying, the massive primate looks your group over, noting each of you in turn.

“You’re like the boy said you’d be, though he never said anything about someone YOUR size,” he directs the last comment to Aslan, who regards the other digimon cooly.

“I’ve hit something of a growth spurt,” The lion says simply, as if that explains everything. Zoe just looks at her partner like he’s grown a second head, mane and all. You take the lion digimon’s willingness to joke as a good thing. The monkey just laughs again, before tossing his staff up in the air, where it… begins to shrink. When it comes back down, it’s the size of a toothpick...and he even uses it like one, holding it between his teeth.

“I hope you aren’t TOO offended, kiddo.” He grins around the staff-pick. “I just wanted to see what kind of weirdos we’re dealing with.”

He says that, but…

>[] Wait, what kid?

“Hold on a second,” You say, holding up a hand. “Kid? You don’t mean-”

“A human. Like you. Taller, though, with shorter hair. Talks different too.” He waves a hand lazily. “You might know him.”

You and the others share a look that is not at all lacking triumph. It’s got to be Daniil. You’ve finally got the group together. Or you will, if this guy ever tells you where he is.

“Um,” Niklas of all people speaks up now, the shy boy no doubt excited about reuniting with his friend and his own partner. “C-could you show us where he is?” The monkey snorts in amusement.

“Kid, I didn’t just come here to see what you were made of.” He grins widely, in a way you’re not sure is entirely friendly. “I’m the welcoming committee.”

That gets a nervous gulp out of your new friend, but when the monkey turns and begins to walk up the path you were heading down, he lets out a sigh of relief.

“C’mon, all a’ ya. The rest are waiting.”

Not much conversation is had during the walk, but you do take the time to make sure that Zoe and Sally are alright; Zoe with her illness, and Sally with, well, her temper. Zoe waves off your concerns, insisting she’s fine, while Sally just huffs.

“Next time, Wayne, you let ME take the risks.” she says, her angry expression melting into one of distress. “I don’t want you to scare me like that again, okay?” While you’re unsure just how to react to this side of your partner, you do know that you can’t make that promise.

“I’ll do my best,” You say, “but I can’t promise you anything.” She bites her lips, before grudgingly agreeing, lapsing into a perturbed silence. You get the feeling that this conversation isn’t over, only postponed.

Before long, you reach what appears to be the end of the forest, small as it was, and beyond that you can see a large number of rocky hills, both big and small. And there, on the crest of one of them-

is a familiar, decidedly human figure.

“Daniil!” Niklas calls out, waving to the other boy. The russian waves as well, and begins to make his way down, followed by what you can only assume is Niklas’ digimon partner… a large metal beetle.

Well, that one news story makes sense now.

You meet your fellow chosen halfway, and the older boy greets you all with arms spread wide.

“It’s good to see you all okay,” He says, grinning like a madman. “At one point, I had thought the worst.”

“Well, you’re not the only one.” You joke, and he claps you on the back with a laugh. The russian teen seems much more upbeat now; you can only assume something good happened when you got separated.

Niklas spares no time in celebrating his reunion with his best friend and partner, who you learn is called Kokuwamon, while Daniil simply bumps fists with his own partner, both wearing a matching grin.

A couple more introductions are made, and re-made in Aslan’s case, before you just have to ask…

>[] you seem different/digivice: how to into

Daniil’s attitude isn’t quite like how you remember it, something the others seem to have picked up on, from what you can tell.
“Something about you seems different,” You comment, and when the chosen looks at you curiously, you hasten to add “Not in a bad way, or anything, but I remember you being a bit more…” You search for the right word. “I dunno, closed off?” The other teen nods thoughtfully.

“I can’t disagree with that; I wasn’t the most open of persons when we met. But we can talk about this back at the camp.” He motions for your group to follow him over the hill, and you can tell you won’t get much more out of him this very second. Besides, mention of camp has reminded you that not only are you tired, you’re hungry. And if you’re hungry, you just know the others will be, too. So, there’s nothing left but to climb the rest of the hill and see what he’s talking about…

The camp, if one could call it that, is less of a tent-and-fire-pit camp and more of an entire campground situated between two hills. There are tons of makeshift shelters, ranging from tents and teepees to what look suspiciously like trailer homes. There has to be more than a hundred of them at least from what you can see, and more than that, there are digimon of all kinds.

Daniil leads you down into the thick of the bustling grounds, weaving around occupants and abodes alike, heading towards what you believe is the center of the valley. As you make your way through, more than a few digimon stop what they’re doing to stare at your group, some in surprise, while others just look curious. You wave tentatively as you pass by, and one or two wave back, seemingly confused by the gesture.
>>
>>30421805

Soon, you reach what’s roughly the center of the huge gathering, where you notice a tent much larger than the others. Much, much larger. Daniil gestures to the entrance, and hold the “door” open for you. After a moment’s hesitation, Zoe’s the first to step in, after which you follow.

Within the tent, it’s much cooler than it was outside, something you’re grateful for. The tent seems to be a sort of communal area, or perhaps a meeting place, due to the number of tree stumps that you guess are meant to be used as stools. A guess that’s proven right when Daniil sits in one and motions for the rest of you to do the same. Somewhere along the way, you notice, the monkey digimon split off from the group, but rather than that, you decide to focus on your...friend? Yeah, you suppose he’s a friend.

“So, what is this place? And what is it that prompted this change?” You ask, and Daniil grins.

“This is hope, Wayne Rogers. These are digimon that still believe.” He gestures to in the direction you came from. “Those digimon are the ones that didn’t lose hope throughout this whole disaster, or perhaps regained their hope. It’s of little importance. What does matter is that the one that’s gathered them wants to meet you.” He looks around the circle. “All of you.”

You nod slowly, and resolve to ask about that later.

“Niklas told me you figured out how to work the digivice?” The russian nods, and pulls his device out.

“Thanks mostly to his partner, yes. Without Kokuwamon, I never would have figured anything out.”
>>
>>30421822
He shows you a page, and begins to point to the different symbols.

“Each of these corresponds to a letter in English. It’s a straight translation- a code, not another language.” He then reaches into his pocket, and pulls out a folded piece of paper, handing it to you. “I wrote it down after I figured it out. It’s just a matter of learning another set of letters, honestly.”

[ITEM RECEIVED: DANIIL’S CIPHER: You can now translate the digimon code! You don’t know it by heart yet, but given enough time, you can learn just what secrets this little device holds!]

“You have no idea how much trouble this is going to save us,” You say, and he laughs.

“I think I do, actually.”

>what do you want to say or ask next?
>>
>>30421850
"You want some time alone with Impmon?" Same type of question for Niklas.

"I don't know...WHAT I'm supposed to do with all that hope, with that many people depending on us. Couldn't hurt to see what we can do for them, though."

>[] give the four some space.

Thinking on it, you realize that Daniil and Niklas have spent more time with the others’ partner than they have their own while in the Digital World.

That won’t do at all. You stand up from your seat, rubbing your shoulder to alleviate some of the pain left from the monkey digimon’s staff.

“Well, I’m interested in seeing more this camp- why don’t you guys and your partners take this time to catch up?” You suggest. “I’m sure we can find our way back here easily enough.” Daniil seems to find this a good idea, and as you’re about to turn and leave, he holds out his fist, much like he did with Impmon.

“I’ll see you later, then, Rogers.” You nod, and after a moment of consideration, meet his fist with yours. The others are heading out of the tent by now, but as you’re about to leave, you remember something else you wanted to bring up.

“Actually, Daniil, Niklas, there’s one more thing…” You explain to them about digimon and names, and Daniil grimaces.

“I’ve never been the best with names, but I’ll see if I’ve got any he likes.” Niklas nods in agreement, and you bid the two goodbye for now.
>>
>>30422981
Outside the tent, it’s still a bit warm, but it’s growing cooler slowly. Night must be coming soon.

All around you are stalls and tents and huts and shacks, and around them are digimon of all shapes, sizes, and colors.

To your right, you see Zoe and Aslan inspecting a series of stalls that appear to be shops of some kind, while to your left, you notice a crowd forming around...you don’t know what, actually., You can’t see. Sally’s hovering just above the heads of those in the back, looking over the crowd in what appears to be amusement.

Ahead of you, you can see the way you came, as well as another series of stalls and shops. There’s bound to be even more on the other side as well.

Where would you like to go? Anything you would like to keep an eye out for?

>check with Zoe and Aslan, then see what Sally’s doing

You head for your human friend and her digimon first. Zoe seems to be looking at some kind of...jewelry? You don’t know what it is, exactly, but it reminds you of the collar Sally wore when she was a Salamon. As you get nearer, you notice that Zoe’s arguing with the shopkeeper, which is a...is that a pumpkin? Does it have an AXE in its head?! Digimon are weird.

“...and I said that whatever metal this is, it can’t be worth my bag!”

“And I told you if you wanted protection against the powers of the Dead Zone, you’ll trade me for that Holy Ring!”

“Can you even prove these rings work, anyway?” Your best friend’s question seems to trouble the shopkeeper, and the pumpkin...doll...thing...starts to sweat. Somehow.

Did you mention digimon are weird?

“W-what a stupid question! Everyone knows that holy rings work. It’s just common sense.” Zoe does not look convinced.

“Oh, really? Then what are these holy rings made of?” She needles.

“W-why, only the highest grade Gold Chrome Digizoid, of course!” The shopkeep’s sputterings aren’t very convincing.

After a little more of this, you decide to step in.

“Zoe, what’re you looking at?” You ask, making sure to sound as cheerful as possible. Your friend waves the ring in her hand.

“These things are supposed to be, like, anti-dead zone charms. I thought it might be useful to have one, but not only is the price too much, I don’t even think they’re real anymore.” She tosses the ring to you, and you’re surprised at how light it is. You’d imagined a metal ring this big would weigh at least a few pounds, but it feels more like one.

“Yeah, I don’t think it’s worth your time,” You agree, placing the ring back on the table. The pumpkin looks angry at that, but you don’t pay him any mind. Instead, your eyes are drawn to…

>[] a small box, sealed tight with rope

It’s a fairly innocent-looking thing- about the same as a mid-sized jewelry box, but with none of the softness of one. Instead, its corners are straight, and there’s no slope to it. The box itself is heavier than it looks, and there’s no hinge to be seen. The rope tying it shut is old, very old, but still strong. It smells faintly of...wine and smoke. You’re not sure what to think about that. You shake it very faintly, but hear nothing moving around inside.

It’s almost as if it were a solid block of wood. You’d believe that, too, if it weren’t for the weight.

The shopkeeper sidles up to you, his eyes narrowed slyly.

“Aahh, it seems you have taken an interest in one of my trinkets, outsider. Whatever happened to ‘not being worth your time,’ hm?” When you look his way, he leans on the counter, as if he were telling you a secret. “Now, normally, I wouldn’t bother to do business with someone so rude, but it’s not often outsiders come to my shop, much less with so many things they could trade. So, the box is yours if you can give me something I’ve never seen before. It's the deal I make with everyone when they look at this box.”

>your bags have been depleted some since your adventure began, but you’ve still got some food, a few tools (a utility knife, a compass, a small lamp, your watch, and your actual cell phone), a length of rope, and your tent packed away in your bag.

The key, too, is remarkably heavy. It looks like iron, but feels more solid, heavier than that. You guess it's made of a metal only found here. There's a slight veneer of rust over it, but that rubs off easily enough. The key's teeth are small, but oddly shaped, and the ring and shape of the key reminds of something, but what of, you can't be sure.

"Ah, now that key," The shopkeeper says, "That key's no good. Haven't been able to find anything it unlocks in all the cycles I've had it. But that doesn't mean I'll part with it easily; who knows what it could open, eh?"

"You'll need to trade for that too, though the deal with the box doesn't apply here."

The mirror is small- about the size of your hand, and undecorated for the most part. The only thing you can really pick out on it is the triangles on the back: three arranged in a circle around a fourth, with the points touching. The glass is old and scratched, but serviceable, you're sure. The metal surrounding the mirror is a dull gray- probably once silver or white, and scuffed in several places. It's a miracle you were able to make out that symbol in the first place.

"Picked that up a couple cycles ago," The shopkeep says dismissively. "I'll trade for it, but there's not much use to it, is there?"

The bullet isn't pierced through like some you've seen- instead, the cord of the necklace is woven around the cartridge, allowing you to inspect the back...
To discover that the round is in fact still live. You're not sure what to think of that. Along the sides of the casing and around the bullet's rim are those same letters... letters you now have the translation key to, thanks to Daniil.

Upon a closer inspection, you're able to make out "O L A" On the bullet itself, but can't read what's on the casing right now. You'd need a magnifying glass to figure that out.

"Oh, you like that? Perhaps something for the girl with the good taste?"

>What will you do?
>>
>>30425306
The mirror has the Digital Hazard symbol on it. Not sure what to make of that other than it has the potential to threaten the entire existence of the Digital World. But then again, that's already happening.

Not exactly sure what O L A mean, but I'm pretty rusty on my Digital knowledge.

I want the mirror. Give him the compass.
>>
>>30425306
Pull out food, knife, compass, but don't mention what any of them are. See if he likes them.

some exotic food should do for the mystery box, and the digivice+digimon eliminates the need for the knife and compass.

I'll go for the box if we can get it with exotic food, and the mirror. Bullet comes last.

Reaching into your own bag, you pull out a handful of things you think would be worth a trade, laying them out on the counter one by one, watching the shopkeep’s reaction. First, you put down a utility knife, only to be met with a shrug. Next, a compass, which his eyes follow, clearly having never seen something like this before, but trying to hide it, and then… a snickers candybar you brought along. The merchant looks at the three items, before picking up the snickers, sniffing it….somehow. How does a pumpkin smell a snickers? Well, he seems to like it, so you pick up the box.

“This,” You point to the chocolate. “For that?” The shopkeep sniffs it again, before nodding.

“Just tell me what THIS is, why don’t you?” He pokes at the wrapper’s tabs curiously.

“It’s food. A delicacy, actually. Very, very hard to get ahold of out here.” You say, grinning as his eyes widen. Hook, line, and sinker.

“Deal! And that,” He points to the compass. “What’s that do?”

“Well, it’s supposed to point a certain direction no matter where you are,” You explain, spinning the small metal disc around. “But I can’t guarantee its usefulness here. Still, it’d be enough for the mirror, I think…” You trail off, letting him think about it.

“Well, this IS in better condition than what you want to trade for… and it’s nice and shiny...you have a deal.” You smile victoriously as you put the two items into your bag, where you happen upon something else.
>>
>>30425958
Your old watch. You must have forgotten to take it out some time ago. It’s still running, even. Well, it’s worth a shot…

“What will you trade for this?” You ask, and the shopkeeper hums to himself in thought.

“I would part with the key or the necklace,” He says, finally, “But only one of them for that.”

You pause and think as well, before settling on the bullet.

“A wise decision,” The talking pumpkin says, gathering up the items you gave him. “We should do business another time.”

Well, now that you’ve traded for some rather interesting items, what will you do now?

>[] check up on on Sally

With your newest purchases tucked away safely in your bag, you decide to head back to where you saw Sally last, hanging above a large crowd. By the looks of things, the crowd has doubled in size since you last looked, and Sally’s had to float even higher to get a proper look. As you approach, the noise of the gaggle grows louder and louder, until you can barely hear anything. You wave up at your partner to get her attention, and it’s with an amused smirk that she hovers down to your level.

“A bit noisy, isn’t it?” She calls out, and you’re forced to agree by the fact that she had to shout in the first place. Your partner pats the broomstick with one of her hands, motioning for you to sit on it next to her. You’re unsure just how she intends for you to stay on, but do so anyway, only to find her hand supporting your back. So long as she doesn’t jostle too much, you’ll be able to stay on just fine.

Slowly, her broom moves upwards, allowing you to see over all the heads and…

“Are they...gambling?” You ask incredulously. Sally just shrugs.

“I think so? They were doing something else when we first got here, but whatever it was, they’ve moved on to this. And it’s apparently really popular.” And so it would seem- you estimate there’s about fifty digimon all told around the four in the center, who are doing something with dice of some kind.

“Does it interest you?” You ask, and again, your partner shrugs.

“Not particularly. It’s just more interesting than what Zoe and Aslan wanted to do. Why do you ask?”

>[] no reason, really
>[] you looked like you wanted to try
>[] do you not like hanging out with Zoe?
>[] other?
>>
>>30439591
What would the key unlock for anyone, actually?

Assuming it's even related to digivolution and not an actual key to something or somewhere. It could even unlock a mystery box!
>>
>>30439633
I'd rather give Sally the bullet on the off chance Gale will allow the unlock of BeelStarrMon.

> Do you know how to play it?
(chance to win some moola or the locals favor might be useful. "If I win this round, you tell me everything/escort us to X")

>>
>[] you looked like you wanted to try
>[] do you not like spending time with Zoe?

“You just looked like you wanted to try, is all.” She shakes her head.

“No, I don’t know the rules, not from what I’ve seen. It looks a little more complex than first meets the eye, too, and I don’t want to just jump into that. I’m sure from the ground it looks easy, but up here, I can see what their hands are doing. They’re good.” She sighs, and leans against you slightly. “Just watching is fine, for now.” You nod, impressed with her assessment. Indeed, the game is rather fast moving, and you can’t imagine Sally winning a game on her first try, and with nothing to bet, anyway.
It might be useful to try and learn later, though you keep that to yourself.

“But what’s this about Zoe?” You ask next. “Do you not enjoy spending time with her?” Your partner doesn’t say anything at first, just frowns.

“...It’s not that I don’t. I just don’t think she likes me very much. I told her our first night here I wanted to be friends, but I don’t think she’s as willing as I am. And…” She sneaks a look at you. “...I don’t enjoy spending time with her as much as I do with you.”

You can feel the blood rushing to your face as Sally leans further into your shoulder. You’ve known how highly she thinks of you for a while, though whether it’s her opinion of you as her partner or as ‘Wayne’, you don’t know. Regardless, her words stir up emotions within you that five days ago would have bewildered you. Now, though…

“I’m...glad you feel that way.” You mutter, somewhat abashed by her attention. “Though I’d be a little hurt if you didn’t.” Slowly, so as not to fall off, you slip an arm around your partner’s waist, pulling her closer. She sighs happily, eyes closing, and rests her head at the crook of your neck. The tingling feeling of her breath on your skin sends a shiver down your spine. You’re sure she knows just what she’s doing, and if she doesn’t...well, that’s even worse, you imagine.

You remain like that for at least ten minutes, your mind no longer on the gamblers below, only on the ...girl next to you.

Since when did Sally become a girl to you? Since when did she stop being a Digimon?

When did you start to fall in love?

[Digimon Quest: to be continued next week.]

Hey Gale, I don't really expect you to see this before fall off, but just incase are we locked into a crest yet? I mean, Lilithmon would require (I think) Lust, but I'm kind of hoping we snag Greed instead of Impmon.
>>
>>30443829
I pop back in every now and again, and I'd like to point out that Wayne and Sally, as well as every pair so far, have different crests attributed to them.
Wayne's is an unknown, and Sally's is Temptation.

Temptation can mean a lot of things.

Likewise, Daniil is Loyalty, and Impmon is Indulgence, which could also mean any number of things.

And nothing is quite concrete yet as to what exactly they DO mean.
>>
>>30444082
Fair enough. Didn't realize "Associated Attribute" corresponded to one's crest. And now that I'm looking at the character sheet I'm seeing all kinds of probably nonexistent ties to Pride and Gluttony (which I meant to say instead of Greed...whoops) in addition to Lust. Man it's going to be fun to see how this all plays out, regardless of which path we end up taking.
