Previously: Asher &Co. leave the ruined city of San Diego by air in the dead of night as Fara is given more power by request.

Everyone's battered or drained in their own right as they take their places in the military helicopter, as Asher gazes upon the Follower's attack upon American forces.
After checking up on some of the others, Asher speaks with them about their abilities, idle chatter to pass the time.

Fuel runs empty over a desert, forcing the party to land much to Asher's chagrin. As the others head onto sleep, Asher and Helia get to work on making a mobile water source using their respective powers.
Trading a few words they sleep and Asher faces his dreams...

Ten days into the desert, the Hot Rod feels that you're being pursued, and the party determines appropriate to lay a trap.

Bullets zip through a cloud of sand, and visibility is nil.

>Primary Objective: Make it to L.A. and cause a scene to draw public attention to rendezvous with a Follower Agent.
>Optional Objectives:
>-Drown a preacher before his congregation to please a Goddess.
>-Torture others into a forced awakening.
>-Kill your pursuers.

Ah, I'll fix that copy.

If we unlock another type of elemental control, say Air, would Materia Firma work on it or would we have to do something first?

If we would have to do something, what would it be? Upgrading MF a couple levels? Buying another version for each element? I really hope it's not the latter.

Cause I thought that making armor out of air would be easier than using water. Air is everywhere an all that.
And maybe we could put an oath on it without people who really like Ice and Water freaking out.
>>
>>30443109
>And maybe we could put an oath on it without people who really like Ice and Water freaking out.
Good luck. Those people really don't seem happy with anything. Unless of course we use water/ice only and ignore everything else.
>>
>>30443109
Upgrading Materia Firma to Apprentice rank will increase its defensive power.

After that, Adept will unlock use on any kinesis that you've unlocked.
Defense upgrades every level.

Use of such an enchantment will also be possible on the air itself, though it will cost more on lower ranked elements.
Additionally, the properties it modifies while pertaining to density, hardness and weight will NOT change chemical properties.
>MT'd air will still burn.
>>
>>30443109
I like Water and Ice, and I'm pretty much on board with Oathing a lot of abilities.

Though I would prefer that for the time being we work on enhancing some of what we have instead of picking up more abilities, use Oaths and get Adept in 1-2 skills, especially Ice since it helps keep us from getting shot, before we pick up anything new.
>>
Is there anyway to increase our... I guess mana? I'm not sure what else to call it. We seem to drain really quickly and I'm wondering if there's anyway to make it wear us down slower.
>>
>>30443300
Well yes, yes there is.

It's called leveling up the abilities, taking Oaths for them, and incorporating Incantations into our magic usage.
>>
>>30443334
Then let's do that.
>>
>>30443145
I hope that we can find something most of us can be happy with.

If we're going to go the route of "lots of powers, but they all have a lower level than they could if we had focused narrower", then it makes sense to use oaths to dedicate a couple abilities to the big archetypes of use.

Like, purely hypothetically,
>Ice or Air or Light or Earth to defense (Armor / walls / shields to stop bullets and whatnot)
>Fire or Light or whatever to offense (Explosions or burning or lasers only, no illusions or rebirth or whatever)
>Light to illusions only (no using it to cause physical harm or manipulate its properties to block attacks)
>Florakinesis constrained to nonlethal only, making it good for creating sleep / paralysis inducing chemicals, biological tracking devices, environment manipulation and restraints, etc

I dunno. It just seems the way that things would need to work out if we keep unlocking new spells.

>>30443257
When you say lower ranked, do you mean on the periodic table or ranked on some magic classic elements scale?
>>
>>30443334
>>30443365
That doesn't really increase our mana, it just reduces the cost of the spells we do it for. Same result, that being more spell use possible.

I think the equivalent of a mana pool increase just happens naturally as we practice more and more.

Found a picture for one of the Shade Man's summons.

I really like the idea of a character with a summoning oath to only use shades of people he kills. Not for Asher, but for some creepy motherfucker npc.
>>
The sun is high in the sky casting down the sparser ribbons of color from the aurora, a cloud of sand and dust in the distance from the positions of the gunmen, or whoever else is out there. No more shots ring out after that first volley as you maintain your wall of water, solid and still like a concrete wall, yet clear as glass.
Helia and Aerin back up, their bodies bearing the illumination of their powers. Sand covering Helia up and over her body like a second skin.
“Hot was right, how the hell did we get followed?!” Aerin yells out as she wipes away the blood at the gash across her cheek that the bullet glanced off of.

Eshe flips up on one hand, defying gravity for a single moment as she yells out,”Defend yourselves!”
Her legs glow as she bounds off of the air itself, driving herself forward into the dust like a straight arrow.

You're unaware of Hunter's location as Helia and Aerin back up beside you, guarding while your water wall is maintained.

Your ravens see nothing as they have the past few days, though they seem to be bickering somewhat at this point.
Fara's voice whispers into your mind,[I'll need the water if you want me to appear... I don't see them from this side.]

(Why can't you see them? They just shot at us!) You scream within your mind as you maintain the solid water with a hard flexing of your hand, a dull warmth increasing through your fingers.
[I don't know Asher, and you know that I'd kill them for you if I could. I just can't see them!]

>The enemies are extremely stealthy...
>[] Figure something out for Fara.
>[] Sit back and let Eshe take care of your foe.

>When you say lower ranked, do you mean on the periodic table or ranked on some magic classic elements scale?
Lower ranked spell categories.
Atomic size would also matter a bit too I suppose.

>>30443436
Pretty much.
>>
>>30443538
We have Aquatic Perception right? And we're in a fucking desert.

The people after us are sure to have water on them, they should stick out like a sore thumb to our water sense in such a dry place. That should give us their location.

Also, random question about Aquatic Perception, if we increase it independently of our Water control will it branch into other stuff like divination and scrying?
>>
>>30443601
It's naturally raised with Hydrokinesis and yes.
>>
>>30443601

Also, that's good thinking. What do you intend to do with that?
(The enemy's gunfire came from multiple directions.)
>>
>>30443538
I want to use the Aqua sense thing, but is that even something we can do in active use? Seemed like a passive most of the time, so if we're not already sensing them then I doubt we're going to.

But if we aren't already, try to feel for any masses of water in the distance.

>>30443586
>Lower ranked spell categories.
>Atomic size would also matter a bit too I suppose.
Gotchya. So Novice Air would be harder to harden than Apprentice Water.

>>30443631
You should make it more clear in the pastebin that it's tied to Hydrokinesis and upgrading it independently isn't really a thing.
>>
>>30443399
Remember, Oaths don't have to be restrictions on the usage of the ability in question, we can also apply Oaths like Selfishness, to not waste kindness on those who do not deserve it and give nothing back.

>>30443631
Well, I personally say we should stick an Oath on it now then, scrying and other information stuff is absurdly useful, it lets us know what we're getting into beforehand so we can prepare better instead of getting caught off-guard, getting caught off guard can kill us.

We probably won't ever get it to Divine, it's a supportive skill, and we could use the power boost.

I'd suggest getting Selfishness on it, unless someone has another idea for an Oath.

>>30443669
Prioritize finding just one of them for the time being, we want a target to send Fara after. Also, if we get the locations of the enemies we know where to place walls and the like.

Also, can make the water wall we have up show an image of us, their visibility should be poor with the sand, so they actually might believe they got us.

And we should probably get prone, it's not like we can see the enemy ourself, if we get on the ground we're less of a target for rifles to hit.

>>30443703
I think he said we can raise it independently for things.
>>
>>30443538
We could have Helia clear some sand for a hole to hunker down in. Make sure to keep a shield up around and over us. After that we could spam ravens to try to find them.

Hindsight: I really wish we'd put a raven on Hunter so we could see them. He's probably already found one of them and we could summon Fara on top of them if we'd done it.

>>30443813
>I'd suggest getting Selfishness on it, unless someone has another idea for an Oath.
Nobody else really likes this one, but I really like the idea of an Oath of Blindness. It just seems fitting it give up your normal sight to achieve magical sight. If we ever really did need pure visual info, we could whip up a floating eyeball type summon.

>I think he said we can raise it independently for things.
I don't remember him ever explicitly saying one way or the other, but his words did seem to imply that it's not something that raises separately.

But it levels up whenever we level Hydrokinesis anyway, so it will hit Divine if we level Hydro to Divine.
>>
>>30443813
I think that the Oath of Selfishness was shot down a while ago for being too vague / the ability to twist any action into being seen in a selfish light.
>>
Every single one of your quests ends up like this really quickly.

>In a situation
>It looks like we have the tools to solve it
>Still feels like I'm trying to cobble together a working microwave from a box of legos and Popsicle sticks.
>>
>>30444025
So 2op? Good, let's do it.
>>
>>30444080
Shot down by the QM as something that we're not allowed to take. We'd have to put some actual definitions behind "selfishness" to take it. And that would make it not OP.
>>
>>30443813
Adding to my post.

Also, I thought we could summon our Summons without a medium, it helps with the drain, but Fara said she needs the water if we want her to appear.

Can we use the enemies' water as the Medium for a summon. Because that would be a funny way to drop Fara on them.

And I sorta wish we had Oath of the Sculptor so we could make Ice walls for cheaper and then not have to continue to Materia Firma it.

>>30444025

>>
Fighting blind and already lacking an eye isn't something that you really find suitable as the thought occurs to, staring through your own conjured wall- the enemy must have water with them. You close your eye as you feel your hasty barrier quiver from diverted focus. Where is it?

Kneeling down to lessen your profile, you feel faint distant signatures, but it's too many, and too blurry. The damn cacti hinder your perception.
Giving up on that point, you surround the three of you with your barrier and ice it over, something seeming to assist.
“Cold, right?” Helia's waving her sand covered hand, freezing over a large portion of the barrier as you nod, surprised in her ability to do this.

You see the sandstorm move, and Eshe leap out, throwing her head around to regain her coordination as she kicks off of the air again, sliding beside the three of you as a volley of bullets rings out, glancing over her flesh as it flashes a murky green.

As you finish casting illusions into the ice with everyone else hunkered down Eshe snarls, her dreads falling over her shoulders in a mess,”We are surrounded, there are more than who shot.”

“How many?” You call out through your barrier.
“At least five, at most six.”
>>
>>30444238
What the fuck are you talking about?

Oath of the Sculptor does not prevent us from doing stuff with Water, Materia Firma, Illusion, or any of our other abilities. If we had Fire/Air/Earth it would not prevent us from doing a single god damn thing with them.

All it would do is keep us from making our Ice stuff pointy. We don't kill with Ice, we just hinder with it, and keep us from dying with it, and then stab them with solid water.
>>
>>30444238
>>30444289
That's not what oaths do
>>
A shot explodes in the distance, as you regard the direction. Not directed at your wall.
You grin through your teeth at that,"I'm willing to bet Four or Five now. Hunter's still out there. Why can't we find them?"

Eshe's grimace turns into a smile as her features illuminate, her fish-like form returning with a set of hardened crocodilian scales, and a glass-like cover for her eyes,”How else? Magic. They do not want to be seen, so they are like ghosts.”

Another volley tears through the dust-clouds, repelled by Eshe's magical hide as her body reflexively trembles.
She takes a deep breath.
“They intend to wear us down before coming in for the kill. I will protect you all.”

Eshe rushes back into the low visibility, before you have a chance to say anything, her body humming with electricity.

Aerin glance at you from her own low position,"I don't like this, sitting ducks like this, we should've picked a better spot."
Helia remains calm under the fire,"Asher, I'll keep the ice up, don't worry about it."

>What's the plan, Asher?

>Burn: Moderate
>>
>>30444317

And this mentality right here is a good example of why the oaths and Divine rank mechanics are bad for questing. They require the players to all agree on a long term route lock type scenario early on, which they won't ever, resulting in a situation not too dissimilar to hardcore waifu wars. Except with spells instead of girls.

This would work for single player campaigns, but it doesn't work for this.

Making taking a spell to Divine remove or lessen the oaths associated with it would be a solution. Or adding a mechanic where really going overdrive on an oath can "pay it off" in a sense if you want it removed. Like if you took an Oath of Truth, then you have to go on a side quest to "spread the truth and vanquish lies" or something. Or Oath of the Sculptor requires some grand construction made of ice, maybe a palace to some god or something. Hell, you could make the deities offer sidequests to remove oaths later on.

>>
>>30444410
So we can't locate them with our bird, and Aquatic Perception didn't get anything.

So let's draw them in. We have convenient Ice walls, and we can do illusions. Make it look like the Ice Wall is partially transparent, like the shots we've been taken have done enough damage that we needed to thin them, and put an illusion of ourself and the other people around us on it. Make sure we're standing up in the illusion and looking around, or something like that.

When the next volley of fire has gone off make the wall look like there's a hole in it when there's not, and that we were shot in the chest or something and fell over. If they keep on firing have them also thing that they got Helia, and Aerin after that after a number of "wounds" from their rifles.

This'll let them feel they're making progress, draw them in, make them targets for Hunter, and give us something to work with.

>>30444565
No. Ice is pretty much perfect for us for a skill to take to Master, considering the paths we've been taking we'll want Summoning at Divine, eventually.

>>30444815
Ice and Illusion, while I like them, seem better suited towards supporting our other skills than being Divine themselves. Ice for defensive purposes and constructing things, Illusion for misdirection and so on.

You forgot another reason why this system is bad.

It encourages hostile sabotage-style votes. You're not voting for the thing you think is cool that will make the story good or interesting. You're voting for the thing that will fuck over your rivals and have your choice win by default.

Nobody wins, everybody mad.
>>
>>30445050
Ice is best as a defensive skill, not an offensive one.

The ideal of "Stillness" is best for keeping us from harm, not trying to harm people with it.

Our offense comes from other things, by its very nature Ice is far from our best offensive choice.

Illusion is more of a support skill to let us get our attacks through and mislead them to set them up, but it's best used to support our other stuff.
>>
>>30445178
Good point. Nobody is looking at Oaths as a short term power boost, they're looking at them as tools to remove rival spell-waifus from the long game.

Nobody here even seems to care about the power boost from Oaths, only that it can facilitate their preferred choices through early route-lock.
>>
>>30445227
Ice is a great offensive skill, make any weapon out of ice, freeze dudes alive, encase people in ice. Possibilities are endless. It's much more interesting than summoning, and safer.

Making weapons out of ice is really lame, and if you wanted to do it, it is better done with earth or metal. Or just cut people with air. The only thing I would miss is freezing people directly.
>>
>>30445312
Not even the guy you were talking to, but most of what you just said would all be improved by the Oath of the Sculptor.

The only thing it would stop us from doing is making weapons, and Asher is an Evoker Nerve. he shouldn't be making weapons out of ice to hit stuff with anyway.

If you really wanna kill shit with Ice, launch a spike at them from a mile away.

I think summoning is better to use to kill people long range, though. Use scouts to find them and summon up something right on top of them.

>>30445397

>>
>>30445468
Not really. Summoning has shown itself to be better for killing shit at equivalent rank while Ice has consistently been used for defensive purposes over the course of the quest.

To make it a simile, it feels like you want to take our gun and use that to block with and try to beat people to death with our shield.
>>
With Helia taking care of the ice, you take a brief break from maintaining it before you solidify it further.”Everyone, stay down.”You say as you channel your power into the water.
>Cantrip!: Mirage Ice Mirror

You recall the visage of your allies as you close your eye, and then cast their forms standing up within the ice. After the next hail that batters the ice, you make yourself fall, and Aerin stagger.

You hear another shot explode in the distance, and illumination from forms slipping through the sand and arcs as Eshe discharges electricity between the reflexive gunfire.

You see a part of the sandstorm begin to die down, leaving a hole in the wall of sweeping sand.
It dawns on you that the sand never encroached upon your bunker as you let another illusion fall from another sweep of bullets.
Helia looks to you as her veins begin to take on a creeping blue glow,”Asher, what are you doing?!
“I'm making them think we're going down, I just hope it works.” You say as you wipe a bead of sweat from your brow. Between the real heat outside and the feeling of heat in your nerves, it's a calm relief that there's ice not far, even if it's the only thing keeping you from becoming swiss cheese.

Just as you think of that, a portion of the ice distorts as a claw rakes through- no from it- as though trying to break free.

[I will kill them.]
Fara comes into being, lacking her apron or robes from before, taking on a more utilitarian form. A single eye gleaming through a mask of ice with a crack running through the surface, blade-like skates to accompany her claws.
“I did not tell you to do anything!”
>>
>>30445529
Just because we've been using it to defend only doesn't mean it cannot also be used to attack. Ice can be anything, both the gun and the shield.

Heeding you not, Fara drives into the sand storm, letting a hail of bullets pass through her body unhindered as she proceeds at a break-neck speed. Leaping into the air at the last moment and performing a spinning flip with the edge of one of her blades out, contact with the sands driving a blade of air to create another part, revealing a soldier garbed in camo, covered from head to toe in spite of the heat.
At facing your wild monster of ice, the soldier drops the sight of his gun while extending a hand and clasping the air, the storm swiftly concealing him once more.
(How?!)
[Lucky guess.] Fara chuckles within your mind as she unleashes a scream in the same direction, rippling the sand.

Another shot explodes through the desert at a distance right after, the bullet redirected from the storm into the sky as Fara surges forward again, taking a different maneuver this time, spinning upon an icy claw and letting her skates whip up a freezing wind to blow back at the storm once more.
(Why didn't you tell me that you could do that?!)
[Didn't know.]

Aerin leaps over the ice,”I'm going in too.” charging forward after Fara, doubling and then triplig in speed as her verdant power grips her, illuminating her every joint.

Helia glances at you, and takes a deep breath as the blue in her fingers recedes,”Can I borrow this?” She points to the frozen sheet before her, stress from the fight written all over her face.

Come this far. Might as well go all the way
>>
>>30445618
It is a far better shield than it is a gun.

Ice will at higher levels encompass Stillness, slowing things down, heat, speed, maybe time.

These things are best used as a defensive measure, especially since we can't directly effect other people with it unless we touch them, and we should never be that close to an enemy in a fight. It's a small sacrifice, and an Oath pretty much doubles the effect of all Limit Points you put into it, up until Master. That means more points for other stuff, like getting a completely different skill to Master as well that is completely geared towards murdering shit. With two oaths we can literally get two skills, like Ice and Fire to Master for the same price as just getting Ice to Master.

You want longterm gain, then take Oaths, use all those Limit points to diversify like a motherfucker.

Fara is already there. Let her finish it and we'll give her a long lesson on the importance of listening to your summoner.
>>
>the dawning realization that it doesn't matter what oaths we take because we'll get killed off within a dozen threads anyway before we ever even get anything to Adept rank

>>30445807
I'd rather focus level ice and illusion, and oath summoning to support them. Fara literally just showed us what I've been saying all along, summoning is unreliable. Ice won't disobey us. If we do it this way we'll have a stronger defense than offence, and I'm comfortable with that. Considering the fragility of nerves, that's probably an ideal skill setup.
>>
>Your contract with her is simple: "Do what I say, so that you can help me." [Restriction]: You may not ask her to act against you.

I want to get mind control and take that to divine. Way better than anything else.
>>
>>30445901
Or, we Oath Ice, get it to Master which while not quite Divine, is still insanely powerful, and have all of those amazing defensive things from Ice.

If Master leveled Ice, the element of Stillness and Death, can't keep something from killing us, then we have sincerely fucked up somewhere along the line.

Sure we miss out on some of the offensive stuff, but that's not what we want most from Ice. And by Oathing it we're pretty much doubling our Limit Point investment up until Master.

I'm not even really worrying about Divine that much, that's very far off, we need this defense now. Ice is still going to be important even with an Oath, I love Ice, I want it as our first skill to Adept.

But Summoning has more powerful and diverse options at Divine that Ice will, it's got some caveats, but overall it offers us a lot of power. Being able to pretty much store up magic in Summons means we can accomplish a lot more in a fight without catching our brain on fire.
>>
You look to Fara, cursing under your breath and through your link,”No, Yes... Just give me a second!”

“Fuck! Fara, I'm backing you up!” You shout from a knee,”Blow it all away!”
You extend a hand and send out a surge of magic, and feed it into Fara going into overdrive as you feel her explode with bliss.
“Asher, oh yes Asher, I'll kill them all for you! Just keep making me feel this way!” She screams out into the real world as her body gleams with her surreal glow, becoming a touch more feminine and far more wicked as her ice sharpens.
Helia gives you a worried look from the side, yet you maintain your concentration on feeding your summon even as your nerves explode with pain and your vision fuzzes.

Fara spins upon one skate now, like a ballerina performing a pirouette, freezing what sparse moisture happens to be in the air and shedding a surreal mist that blankets outward from her frozen form.
There's a lull in the gunfire, and your instincts tell you to yell,”GET DOWN!” As you drop into the dust, grabbing Helia by the shoulder.

Aerin drops just in time for Fara to kick out one of her blades, and sweep the floating dust with a massive blade of winter, touching upon everything in the area and slicing the storm in half.

Looking upon her work you almost catch her smiling,[Never knew I wanted to be a dancer, is this from you?]
(I believe last time I told you to sing,) You lift your head to examine her grim work. The dust slowly dies down with the wind. You see frozen blood, and two men cut in twain while another spazzes upon the ground under Eshe.

Three bodies, but there were supposed to be five. Two got away.
>>
(Still can't see them?)
[I can now- Oh, they vanished. I'll pursue-] She starts off.
(Wait.) You grip your arm in your agonizingly gradual fade from pain. (I can't power you any more. They lost two men.)

You hear another gunshot in the distance and you look with a little smile,” I'll count that as one, then.”

If we try to do mind control it should be in an indirect manner in which you don't need to overcome someone's magic resistance. Conditioning through subliminal messaging, chemically altering mental state... cordyceps.
I think targeting the subconscious though would be best, since bones and veins would likely be resistant to things like chemicals and other physically invasive measures.

>>30446448
Do we have any kind of panic button regarding summons? Can we halt one of our own in an emergency? What is our level of direct control at the different levels (regarding the summoning skill and the level of the summon itself), and is this different between mythos/thoughtform/shades.
>>
>>30446599

Violet had it in the first Overhuman. Didn't seem to work against magic resistance. Just bones could try to eat the spell faster than she could power it was the major problem, but she just overpowered them. Took down a whole facility of Overs with it.

She was Expert rank.
>>
>>30446599
>Do we have any kind of panic button regarding summons
You can exert your will to forcibly dispell them. The process will most likely scorn the summon if it is a mythos. Low ranking thoughtforms will most likely be dismantled.
Otherwise, there could be an arrangement in the contract that forces them to obey you should that occur either in the form of something like Fate-stay command seals or an agreement that dispells them.

Fara's contract is a very simple one.

We also didn't know that she had something that could reveal the enemy. It's not too surprising, but she managed it when we hadn't been.

We're not a military group, we're a ragtag group of misfit terrorists with odd specialties and we all need to be able to act on our own initiative if it's needed.
>>
(Work with Hunter in pursuit, and don't follow in that form, use vapors if necessary and conserve power. Report to me by nightfall or when you kill them.) You instruct Fara and her form dissolves as told.
[Yes Asher, I'll kill them for you. Just let me know if you need anything else.] There's almost a giggle in her voice and an affection as you feel the distance increase. Could this have been a mistake?

You think on that with your mind dulled by the exertion of power, and Aerin tromping up to one of the bodies, checking out the damage.

You hear a series of gunfire from her direction and a sudden explosion in a green flash as she falls, to her knees, clutching her stomach as it grows red through her shirt.
“Shit,” You try to get up but your fatigue keeps you down,”Get her Helia.”

The woman at your side rushes out, with sand quivering over her body once more to check up on Aerin. From where you are, you can see the dashed remains of gray matter and a small crater from where Aerin's fist made contact. Hell, at least she finished them off- as Helia comes over she stops, keeling over to wretch out a nice syrup of green from the cacti you've all been eating.

At least they're dead.

Sitting in the sand, you play with it idly, too tired and out of fucks to give to try doing anything else right now. After a bit Eshe comes over, dragging a soldier that still seems to be breathing, only, just barely.
“Nice man you got there, he your husband now?” You laugh tiredly as you look to her with your one eye.
“She, and not funny,” She throws the man to the ground amidst the slowly melting ice you've got around yourself. “I'd like to learn from this one. We'll need to cut off her arms and legs.”
>>

>>
“How you expect us to do that? Won't she die? Wait, she there's women in combat now?”
“Not if it's burnt shut, and why wouldn't there be?”
“Not a fireman Esh... And I don't know.” You go no further an that one...
She looks over to Aerin as Helia helps her up, the larger woman's stomach seeming to have effectively healed, though her movements are still slower than before.

“Upper half gunned me, got what he deserved.” Aerin croaks,” Bullets still inside, don't feel good.” She swallows.

Helia looks down at the dirt,”Uh, so what're we doing with that guy?”
“Girl/Woman” You and Eshe say.

By evening, Eshe's kept the soldier in an effective coma while Helia went ahead and buried the others. At the very least so that it's not a bunch of dead folks in the desert.

With Fara's help, you've turned the chick into a quadraplegic and Eshe's burned the wounds shut with a heated piece of metal from her electricity.
You notice something strange about her though... Her hair is platinum blonde, almost white despite the fat that she looks no older than a teen. What the hell?

Looting her revealed that she was wearing a fried radio and a bunch of other crazy gadgets. You can't much identify them, but you do find what looks like a GPS of some sort.

You'll need to weigh the convenience vs the dangers of keeping this.

Fara hasn't reported back, so the one that got away, is still at large... Brilliant.

Eshe seems to be keen on keeping it, the more the better. Something about adversity driving us to become stronger.
Helia and Aerin seem to be of the opinion that you'd all be better off without a global positioning system tracking your location.

>uh, sounds like a vein or bone sign, you know, invoking something that is creating a notable trait. The glowing is just when your powering up or overworked.
I think there's something more to it. The marks of power were far more diverse in ever single overhuman quest before this and we were never told if this was a retcon or something specific to the in-story situation.

I would like to heal her, it's a good skill to pick up, but I'm not sure we have a good chance at it.

Maybe if we can overcome the magic resistance we can use Water to have the water/blood in the body force the bullet out, maybe.

Also even riskier though, would want to try that on a random piece of metal from a soldiers kit or something.

“Let's look at it, then trash it. So long as we know what direction Vegas is, we'll be good to go. Fair compromise?”
Aerin and Helia agrees, after all, better than wandering around in a desert aimlessly.
After a brief period of booting it up, you find that you're further north than you thought. Close to 190 and 95's just past there which will be a trip to the east to get to Vegas.

Further north would've had you in the road, but instead of hitting a big street you could cross the mountains and make your way through a town called Pahrump that could score everyone some R&R if the military hasn't cut it off from everything.
You toss the thing up and one of your ravens snatch it, bickering with the other one as they fly away with it.

“So, we could head there by orienting east or find a main road and go directly to vegas.”
Eshe seems to think about this deal,”We could go to this place and sow seeds to draw attention away from our travel. Leaving when they bloom.”
Aerin raises an eyebrow to Eshe,”What are you talking about, seeds?”

Eshe smiles with an almost sinister light,”By teaching people and allowing them to make a choice.”
“We have the manpower for that? How are we supposed to offer a choice when there's just the five of us?”Aerin protests.
“Six, if you count Fara.” You add in.
Eshe glares at Aerin, her eyes like daggers while her face is one of empty emotion,”You would forsake the followers, Aerin?” A question is a threat,”It is our duty to enlighten others.” The statement a promise.
Aerin seems to shudder at that, gripped by something in the process. She looks to you and Helia for approval, though Helia seems keen on staying out of it, averting her gaze, looking at you to pass the torch.

>Suffering is necessary to gain knowledge, and so shall begin
>Yahweh has stolen the water of Asherah

Did I miss anything? If not, I'd appreciate some people helping me with hammering out specific good lines for those points.

Also weighing the pros and cons of using Materia Firma to make the water rush down the Priest's throat like air, but then get solid in his lungs. Or just do it straight for a drowning. I dunno. Materia Firma might though probably not make Asherah not consider it a "true drowning" or some bullshit.

Also gotta consider whether to bring Fara in on this. She would be shocking and definitely help with the inflicting of trauma, but she might just straight up kill people.

Most of it isn't for Asherah, it's the follower's schpeel to get new recruits. But yeah. We need to make it sound a bit better, I was just trying to hit the main points. Guess we can do that when we get to it.

I say for killing the Priest we take Oath of the Sculptor before hand, and use it to bind him with ice that turns into a crucifix. Once he's crucified in front of his congregation we make the waters from the baptismal pool rise up and force down his throat. We want him to sputter, cough, gurgle, all that stuff, part of the show.

I say we start with the murder and the Asherah thing, remind them that the Old Gods have returned, that magic has come back.

Then we move into maiming people to awaken them while explaining their choices.

Since it's a church they'll all be piled together anyway, we can deal with the entrances and exits, have our big scary magic people make an example of the first couple who make trouble by having them be the first ones to get "englightened".
>>
>>30448407
I don't think we'll need the oath for the crucifix thing. Still seems like a good idea for the show, though.
>>
>>30448407
All we have to do is kill the priest and the emotional trauma should unlock most peoples powers.

Then we tell them to kill the unchosen.
>>
“Eshe, I think I speak for everyone when I say that we're a bit hesitant to go through with this as we lack the numbers and you're the only one among us that's done it.”
Eshe's gaze fixates on you, the same predatory emptiness that seems to regard you as a traitor.
“But,” You begin the correction here,”I wouldn't mind seeing how it's done now that...” You trail off a bit there, feeling the subtle connection between you, them, and all the other Followers.
“Now that we're part of something greater.”

Eshe smiles at that, returning to her usual self, faith restored,”Ah, right. A first time for everything, right? I'm sorry.” She raises a hand to pardon herself, as Aerin looks down at the dirt.
“Yeah, I'm sorry too. Just this awful gut feeling, you know? Like you've got a belly of lead?” She chuckles dryly at her own terrible joke.

Helia smiles, “We'll get better somehow Aerin, just hold tight, okay?”
The woman nods, leaning against the water tank,”Right, right. I suppose Eshe's taking first watch?”

“We're waiting for Hunter, and we have an interrogation to perform,” Eshe rises, arcs of electricity liberating themselves from her fingertips as they ozone the air. With a graceful sway of her hips in her sheer lack of modesty, she plants herself behind the amputed soldier, picking up her head with all of its fair features and positioning it upon her lap like a mother would her child as she massages the girl's temples.
>>
>>30448468
Only for the people that actually really really really love the priest. The tidal wave alone didn't do it for most of San Diego, it took wave + maiming.
>>
With a sudden spark, the girl jolts awake from her induced coma and immediately begins thrashing as though she had arms, her skull and ribs beginning to glow and the pattern of her phantom skeleton bearing a similar light.
All of this in a moment before Eshe delivers another jolt to destroy the girl's focus on her power.
Like a mother to a child, even as the desperation and defiance is pronounced upon the girls face, Eshe whispers with a sick and serene calm,”There, there now. We only want to ask you questions before you return. Humor us, yes?”

The girl's eyes eventually focus on Eshe as she hyperventilates and then spits at Eshe, whom does not even flinch as the loogie slimes its way down her dusky skin.
“Where are you from?”

The girl sticks out her tongue.

Keep it in there for maybe 30 seconds, enough to seriously panic her since she can't breathe, and then remove it.

Tell her we can keep her alive for days finding ways to make it hurt without killing her, but we really just want answers.

>>30448536
>>30448575
There's a limit to how many times we can steam her, we do it enough and she will die from shock and repeated injury. We want her alive, at least for now.

But choking her like this, we can do it without any injury to her, just pain and fear.
>>
>>30448509
I'd prefer to let Eshe handle it, but what about waterboarding her?

I'd like to ask about the military's presence in the area at some point during the interrogation, but not right away.

>>
>>30448631

>>30448509
Some questions to ask at some point during the interrogation.

Why someone so young is working in the military, why her hair is so white, what her magic is, get as much information as we can get about the people she works for and with, what they know about the Followers.
>>
>>30448509
>Steam her

>>30448631
We're doing it once, we can try the water block later instead of repeating. There's a chance she'll die from that too if we can't remove it fast enough. Finally, steam is more effective.
>>
>>30448759
You can go without breathing for a decent while without permanent damage, it is far from pleasant, and it triggers a number of panic reflexes in someone when it happens.

Steam is quicker, but I wouldn't say it's more effective.

I prefer the water block because we can turn the pain on and off as we choose, we can make her suffer for as long as we could possibly want, occasionally letting her get gasps of air before choking her again, or not hurt her at all, if we steam burn her it's just plain going to hurt no matter what we do afterwards. It's more precise and lets us not torture her when she's giving us good info.

If she resists the choking thing we can use steam, or try both, but we may as well start with the polite one.
>>
And we use MF on Ice and Steam too or only water?
>>
>>30448872
Yes. All water forms.
>>
>>30448509
>>[] Shove water in her mouth and solidify it.

>>
>>30448872
We can use Materia Firma on both of those, I want to make sticky napalm steam with it some time, they both still fall under the umbrella of water.

Once we level up Materia Firma we can use it on other elements we pick up an affinity for without any trouble.
>>
>>30448867
We aren't polite, and we aren't patient.
>>
I hope by 'solidify' you mean phase change and not materia firma, no point in holding a sustained magical effect in a bone's mouth
>>
>>30448904
>Get Florakinesis
>Make an oak tree flow like water
>>
>>30448919
This is partially why I wanted to just do plain old waterboarding.
>>
>>30448905
We're not in a hurry, we're waiting for Hunter anyways.

And I'd prefer to start with the more precise one. Also, it's quieter, we don't have to listen to shrill screaming. We can even ask her questions while she's quietly choking.

Using water to cut off air supplies seems better suited for interrogations than burning them.

>>30448919
I don't think she can really focus much on that when drowning, and turning solid water into liquid water won't really improve her situation.
>>
As the teeth come down, you force water into her mouth and solidify it, preventing her from swallowing it down or cutting through her tongue. Her teeth begin to shine briefly to chew through it, only to be interrupted by Eshe's ministrations as she gracefully touches the girl's jaw and slackens it briefly with controlled voltage.
“Asher, I said that I am not a warrior.” She stares down at the girl that's begun to panic with her mouth clogged up, attempted to kick contort and flail, if only she actually had the arms to do so.

You let it go for long enough for asphyxiation to start“We have ways to keep you alive for days if need be, now tell us your name.” You remove the water at once and she just attempts to bite through her tongue again.
You assist with a bit of steam this time, forcing vapors to burn her mouth and causing her to scream in pain as Helia recoils from it all.

“I- I'll be over here, tell me when you finish.” She shies away to cover her ears and look away, soon accompanied by Aerin.

“Tell us your name.” Eshe repeats this time as she caresses the cheek of the young woman, the electricity boiling off a surface layer of flesh.

Tears stream from the girl's eyes as even you wince a little at the sight.
She takes deep, rasping breaths looking at nothing in particular as her eyes glaze over with a sort of distance, a more subtle electric prod bringing her back.
“I commend you for your resistance, but our patience grows thin. Tell us your name.”

The girl wheezes,”None... No. Name. DXII. DXII.”
Eshe's stare remains on the girl,”Mean anything to you Asher?”

>What's that sound like Asher?

"Sounds like Roman numerals, it's nice to meet you 512."

Now that she's being cooperative don't hurt her any more, work with Eshe to ask her questions, make sure her answers are internally consistent. If she answers well then be kind, don't hurt her, be nice about our questioning, don't yell or threaten her.

There's a lot of questions to ask, like how old is she, where was she born, where did she train, who trained her to use magic and fight, what magic does she have, what their numbers are, and so on and so forth. And if the other corpses have white hair like hers then ask why their hair is white. Also, ask about the gadgets that she had on her.

So I remember that Dran was hoping we'd pick Susanoo as new name because it would let him write the other characters ribbing him bout it and calling him Susy.

I wonder what's going to happen when we start going on about the goddess with a very similar name to our own.
>>
>>30449268
Probably nothing really.
>>
>>30449214
Yes, that too. Especially ask how it's concentrated, where they're focusing on.

Also, how did they track us down, where their supplies are.

We'll also want to loot the bodies, they might have stuff we want.

>>30449200
I'm not sure, it's only been 1 year since the Aurora. Not that long.

If anyone could make clones like this, and magical clones no less, it'd probably take a very high leveled Evoker with a focus in something like Water, Life, or something like that. If all of the enemies share physical characteristics you might be on to something.

Or they could just be mindfucked.
>>
“512, it's a roman numeral. Not really used anywhere anymore.” You say,
“Learn something new every day.” Eshe whispers, her voice still bearing that cold calmness as she stares down at the girl that whimpers in Eshe's grasp like a scared pup.
“Where are you from?” She asks in her lucid tone, slowly carressing the girl as she shivers under Eshe's grasp, fear taking place of the defiance she had before.
“O-Olympus.” The girl shudders, a cold sweat pouring over her brow.
“And where is that? Is it a nice place?” Eshe's tone is like one of a mother or grandmother speaking to a visiting child. Distant yet almost caring.
“It does n-not c-comprehend.” The girl says as Eshe bends down deeper.
“What?” Her tone changes.
“It does not comprehend the q-question, ma'am.” She starts to cry with tears streaming down her face as Eshe gently pushes them back with a clear tenderness. Only, it's with the same hands that have boiled a mark across her face.

“This is getting weird Eshe... How old are you?” Seeing that young face bothered you some, but now there's something you're wondering...
The girl at first tries to look to you, to answer the question, yet a sudden tingle from Eshe forces her eyes back up,”Six.”
“Six years old? What the f-”
“A-apologies, it is six months.”

Eshe sneers at this, with absolute disgust as she spits to the side,”We forbid children. Asher, know this, children are forbidden. What the fuck is this. Who trained you? Who did this to you?”

The girl stares at Eshe for a moment, the fear in her eyes lost as she seems to remember something,”Goodbye.” She smiles into Eshe's eyes and the girl's bones glow again.

Eshe administers voltage like before, yet the girl seems to ignore it entirely as she whispers,”Goodbye,” once more.
>>
Eshe's hands tremble with voltage as the girl's flesh smokes, trying to get her to stop, Eshe's demeanor completely changing into one of panic as you stand by with a stunned silence.
“Stop, no! Don't do this! Please, stop!” She screams down at the girl.

Helia and Aerin come around to see what's going on and halt in their step instantly as they watch the scene unfold.

For a moment, you expected her to regrow her arms and legs to try to strangle one of you with. Then you thought that she might explode or something, but you removed anything that looked like a wire.
The girl's bones continue to glow until finally they seem to break, the streams of power themselves crack as blood pours out of her nose and teeth disappear. Blood seeps through her flesh as it disintegrates, leaving nothing but the clothes.

The soldier, 512. DXII is gone, nothing left but a pile of bloody underclothes.

Eshe stares down, distraught and furious as you've never seen her before. She brushes away tears, yet ends up covering her face in blood.

You stand back beside the others for the moment as Eshe trembles with her rage, unleashing the crackle of electricity as she slams a fist into the ground. Taking a deep breath, she punches up the child's clothes and weeps into them for a moment before casting them to the side, the weathering of her face looking the worse for wear as the blood of the girl stains her body.
“She has returned. It is unfortunate that it had been so soon in her life... To think that she would choose the most painful way to die...”

Aerin steps forward, looking at the African woman in her despair,”What... was that?”

“The Ache.” Eshe says dryly,”It is there for a reason as is Asher's Burn. When we go too far as Bones, our bodies can not withstand it. We die from the inside-out. It must be more painful than anything we can imagine...”

Aerin falters, stepping back as you put a hand on the woman's shoulder, drawing her away from Eshe.
“Take your time, I'll get some water to clean you up.”

“Thank you Asher.”

Hunter came back that night, talking about what happened before during that sandstorm. You know the general directions you need to take to hit LA.
There's the roundabout route that you'll get by going north and following the road east. Problem is that friend warned about the retreating military line, though more prudent concern would be that the road is a supply line. You could possibly hinder the supply train by getting at that road....

Or the direct route that takes your lot over a mountain and into a small-ish town called Pahrump or something.
With LA a hop and skip over another mountain. A shorter walk if you commandeer a vehicle...

Eshe, with her being so sullen leaves the decision to you. Hunter and Aerin seem interested in the town, while Helia's more interested in hitting that road.
“If it helps Friend...” She says.

>[] Hit the road, break it, and commandeer a vehicle from the military line. Anyone say joyride?

First, we can do our favor to Asherah here, it'll probably be easier to pull it off here than in Vegas. Second, we can enter Vegas not looking like crazy people that just came out of the desert if we clean up and get fresh clothes, I'd rather draw a bit of attention in Pahrump then in Vegas.

Yeah, I figured it'd be a painful experience.

Can we pick up Oaths before we go about drowning a priest in broad daylight? Sculptor would make it a lot easier to freeze the exits shut, which would both be dramatic and trap people in the church for our "sermon".
>>
Actually, that fight did make me realize something about our summons. They are more like adding people to the party than traditional summons. We fill up the tank outside of combat and they are good to go and we can use our turns doing regular mage stuff. I do get the feeling Fara would get jealous of any other summons that might vie for her 'position.'
>>
>>30450284
Yeah, Fara sorta went full Yandere. She's ranking our female allies on how much of a "threat" they are and is doing the creepy giggling thing and wants to kill for us all the time.

Which, I guess is pretty good. Better than her being a wishy washy worthless refuses to fight summon.

She's cool with the crows, so she'll probably be cool with things that aren't really like peoples. Packs of wolves / mindless berzerker things / whatever should be summonable without any bullshit. We just need to actually reach a rank that can support multiples without incurring massive burn.
>>
>>30450350
It's our own fault for having her go off on her own. We have her too much power too soon without making a clear cut contract with her.

=Mirage package=

>Purchase Photokinesis

This will allow for illusions to be cast on more than just ice and make them far more believable that before.

=Beginner's Weather Package=
>Water to Apprentice
>Purchase Aerokinesis

Will set Asher on the path of weather manipulation and eventual lightning generation. Also has groundwork for Alchemy.

Advances in alchemy and increases combat potential via fire while also opening up routes for pyromancy and pyrokinesis.

Numbers are useful in a fight, one of the reasons I like Summons, and we can spend some of our magic in combat to charge them more if we need to. It's versatile.

I don't think she'd mind some summons, she'd be fine with wolves, lions, ravens, other animals and the like.

Introducing other sentient ones will be trickier. But I think we can manage it if we don't rely on the others too much, and we carefully introduce them to each other. Though if any of our other summons are also pretty girls things might get more complicated.

Since we're already leveling stuff up can we pick up Oaths?

Getting both Hydrokinesis and Cryokinesis to Apprentice would be very helpful, and Sculptor would let us do that.

And I think we should get Materia Firma next because it leads to a lot of useful things and we want it at Adept soon so we can apply it to a wider variety of Spells, and Aquatic Perception to pick up scrying, possibly life sensing, and so on.

I'd prefer Oaths in Materia Firma and Ice. I don't think anyone is particularly planning on taking Materia Firma to Divine, it's extremely useful at Master to synergize with everything else.

We're getting tutelage from Asherah, Lady of the Sea, and Water is what we have based most of our stuff off of, it makes sense for us to focus on it.
>>
>>30450730
lets do oaths for all of them
>>
>>30450730
I agree with this quite a bit. Water is something I want to keep unrestricted because it can be used for so much.

Ice, though, is suited for defense. I want to get the oath of the sculptor.

MF I'm not sure about oathing. Not because I plan to take it to divine, but because it does synergize with everything else. I don't want to cut its versatility when that's its main selling point.

>>
>>30450863

>>
>>30450768
Not all Oaths have to be restrictions on its usage, I agree that one of its biggest draws is that we'll be applying it to all of the elements, we can literally cut people with blades of air if we get higher Materia Firma and Aerokinesis. Oaths can also be things like Friend's Oath of Truth, not that we'll take that one.

Selfishness could work, or re-purposing one of the Nine Satanic Statements or Eleven Satanic Rules from LaVeyan Satanism as many of them match up well with Asher's behavior and worldview.
>>
>>30450871
Fantastic
>>
>>30450876
I wanted to work out something like Kinuhata Saiai's Offense Armour from Raildex. Except make it way thicker. Seems like it would be a good way to help remedy Asher's squishyness.

It would require figuring out some way to make spells auto activate, though, and the way Eshe was still actively turning spells on after reacting to gunshots makes me worried.

I guess the other option is to just always have it on in dangerous situations. Probably what we'd have to do anyway.
>>
>>30450876
I almost suggested the "no harming kids" one from the Satanic lists, but then Dran just had to go and introduce 6 month old clones.

I would put money on the clones being a move designed to stop an easy oath that few people would disagree on.
>>

>"Do not tell your troubles to others unless you are sure they want to hear them."
>"Acknowledge the power of magic if you have employed it successfully to obtain your desires. If you deny the power of magic after having called upon it with success, you will lose all you have obtained."
>>
>>30450871
On the one hand I'm excited for the OC mons because we don't know the things like the back of our nutsacks and can't metagame on them so they'll be interesting.

On the other hand, they'll probably rip our nutsacks off and feed them to us because we can't metagame on them.
>>
>>30450957
>>"Acknowledge the power of magic if you have employed it successfully to obtain your desires. If you deny the power of magic after having called upon it with success, you will lose all you have obtained."
I'm curious as to how far that one would go. Would it require us to look at every person on the street and go "I'M A WIZARD AND MAGIC IS REAL!" or would it just make us unable to lie about magic if someone asked or would it be the ultimate genie's oath and fuck over all our magic that doesn't look like blatant fantastical reality raping magic?
>>
>>30450973
Our goal is to awaken people to their powers so I'm sure it doesn't matter.
>>
>>30450973
I don't think evil-genie-clause is a problem, since they are promises by Asher, to Asher. He sets the rules himself.
>>
>>30450973
>or would it just make us unable to lie about magic if someone asked
That one would make the most sense. It's most limiting factor would be in the case of the random civilian asking if what they saw was magic and what-not.
It would basically entail not denying that you hold such power.
>>
The group decides that it's best to avoid dealing with the military directly while you, yourself number so few. Fara complains a little about not being able to kill now and again, though she just seems to be content enough hanging around you.
Eshe's calmed down a lot from that child's death, though she didn't really seem keen to talk about it with any of you. The rest of you left it at that as you journey to Pahrump.

Your days return to draining out fucking cacti and eating them once more. Not something you'd like to admit, but you think that all this cactus is giving you the runs. Then again, you're pretty sure that it's getting to everyone else with how pukey they look. Eshe's the only one that seems to be pretty good about the whole thing.

Everyone's lost weight as you all travel another five days through the desert and over a mountain.
Now and then you find yourself entranced by Eshe's ass as she still maintains her complete disregard for modesty. The other women don't seem to notice, or at the very least it's Hunter that Helia bitches at while you're chewed out by Fara now and then as she materializes to block your vision and stare at you without saying anything.
The comedy's completed as Eshe's utterly oblivious to the whole thing and Aerin stays out of the whole thing, preferring not to get involved.
[Asher, why would you need a woman like that when you've got meee?]
(You're made of ice and water. Why the hell can't I look at a girl with some meat when she's got it on display?)
[Because. Because I want you to... I want you to rely on me Asher.]
(Well I do, just not to get my dick wet.)
[Oh, I can do that!]
(I, wait-) “No!” Water lifts up from the transport and slaps right into your crotch, causing you to keel over from the blow to the balls.
You writhe in pain from the vengeful spirit's attack,”No... Why... Why...?!” You reach out for aid before you go all the way down... Your vision fuzzing into darkness.

>Satan represents undefiled wisdom instead of hypocritical self-deceit.

I wanna summon a Leshy.

>A person who befriends a leshy can learn the secrets of magic.
> Farmers and shepherds would make pacts with the leshy to protect their crops and sheep.
>Leshies are terribly mischievous beings: they have horrible cries, and can imitate voices of people familiar to wanderers and lure them back to their caves, where the leshies will tickle them to death; they also remove signs from their posts.
>Leshies aren't evil: although they enjoy misguiding humans and kidnapping young women, they are also known to keep grazing cattle from wandering too far into the forests and getting lost.
>Sometimes cow herders will make pacts with a leshy by handing him their crosses from around their necks and sharing communion with him after Christian church gatherings; these pacts are said to give the cowherds special powers.

Seems like it could be neat.

Asher is defeated...

Hunter helps you up as you limp forward with Helia and Fara laughing together, Aerin even kind of smirks a bit. Eshe is the only one that doesn't seem to have a clue on what's going on, or maybe she's the best at ignoring this sort of thing...

Later in the day, you all descend down the other side of the mountain and Hunter points off to the distance,”That's the town we're looking for right?”
You nod, looking over to the kid as the profile around his eyes shines, his eyes scanning the road,”What do you see Hot Rod?”

He points to the distant south,”Military convoy and barricade. Looks like they've got hazmats.
This is Hot Rod's ability that he developed during the sandstorm. Eagle's eye, he calls it. Allows him to see ridiculous distances and even look through possible covers. By his owm admission, it's why he ripped the scope off of his rifle. It's useless to him now that he has this power.
He claims that the best thing about it is the fact that it's so little ache. He can see shit so well it's like he's standing right next to them.

“Looks like it's been there for a while or something.” His profile ceases its lumen,” No regular cars or anything trying to get through.”

Eshe turns to the two of you,”If we took the main road we would have had to deal with something like this... If we are to teach, it should only be once and to a group...”

You raise your hand, recalling your dream half a month ago,”So, how about a church? Only so many exits. We could even pick up clothes from their donations.”

Aerin stares at you incredulous for a moment before she realizes her life-decisions in the last 18 days. Yeah, you're a terrorist now.
“No children.” Is Eshe's only word about it.
Hot Rod scratches his head,”Wait, won't like, the big guy up in the sky be super pissed at us or something? If we're magic now and shit I'm starting to wonder about that shit...”

I am somewhat leery of trying to summon up a vampire, it's way too broad a monster, it encompasses everything from Count Orlok to Count Dracula, there's different vampires in different regions of the world, there are variations everywhere, different weaknesses, different powers. It's the same problem as trying to summon Dragon, you need to be more specific.

If you want a vampire then narrow it down, either a specific regional vampire or a specific vampire by name.

Or put one together as a Thoughtform, that'd also work. And the vampire hypnosis thing is more of a modern addition as far as I know.

I think we should explain the basics of Mythos to the ones who don't know, and explain that we've already gotten a few requests.
Hell, the invokers might even learn something useful. We're supposed to be able to help eachother with magic, and Asher specifically is supposed to teach.
>>

>[] Tell them about Lucifer.

"Well, if they weren't around before, they certainly are now. Or at least sentient beings born of humanity's collective unconscious that greatly resemble them are around, I'm not quite sure which is right, or if it even matters which it is.

But the point is there's a lot of gods, and I don't think many of them particularly like him, so we may be pissing him off, but the others would like us more. It's a good trade off.

Two of them talked with me in a dream two weeks ago, wasn't really that important at the time though, Asherah, old Sumerian mother Goddess, consort to Yahweh, wanted a reminder of her existence sent, part of why I suggested the church, it fits with our goals anyway, and Lucifer just wants me to teach magic to others."

We're all in this mess together, we're going to start ranting about Asherah while drowning a priest and that kinda has to be factored in for our planning. Besides, it gives us a chance to sound leaderly, explaining things to them, chatting with gods.

And if we all want to get better at magic, we don't hide how magic works from each other.
>>
>>30451255
It was more a question to the other anons, but I don't think heat of the moment will be good because that would just piss off Asherah for denying her return.

Isn't that exactly how mythos works though? All the mythic archetypes across cultures are the same thing in the collective unconscious.
Prometheus and Satan both betrayed the native king to bring knowledge to mankind. I think they're close enough to be one thoughtform.
I suppose you're arguing that they aren't, but that's something that we can check ourselves once we can make outgoing calls, see who picks up for Prometheus.

Well have fun explaining the shit that's about to happen.
>>
>>30451509
There were only three linked votes for playing it off and six for explaining to some extent.
>>
You decide to play this one straight after a little consideration. You thought about how you'd bring this up to them during the course of this long ridiculous trip that's left everyone save for Eshe with ridiculous sunburns. Hell, you've never been more red in your whole damned life.
"I've got some news I learned about, deities. If they weren't around before, they certainly are now. Or at least sentient beings born of humanity's collective unconscious,”That's what you've figured by going over Lucifer's precise wording. That's the only thing that makes the most amount of sense,” that greatly resemble them are around, I'm not quite sure which is right, or if it even matters which it is.”
You look over everyone's face. You've got their attention right now, though Eshe appears to look at you a bit more keenly than before, almost as if she's noticing you a second time. Her lips part into a toothy smile.

But the point is there's a lot of gods, and I don't think many of them particularly like the big G, so we may be pissing him off, but the others would like us more. It's a good trade off, I'd say.

Anyway, two of them talked with me in a dream two weeks ago, wasn't really that important at the time though. Asherah, old Sumerian mother Goddess, consort to Yahweh, wanted a reminder of her existence sent. That's part of why I suggested the church. It fits with our goals anyway."
You leave out the part about Lucifer. That can be a thing for later.

Hot Rod, Aerin, and Helia seem to think about what you've just said for a few moments. Hot Rod's the first to speak up,”I never liked Sunday service anyway, hell, I'm on board dude.”
Aerin seems skeptical about the whole thing,”So we're going to crash a service? Soldiers were one thing but... Well, I guess we're doing this thing now.” She glances back to Eshe, whom stares back at her with that coldness from five days again.
>>
>>30451628

I'm glad you're so easily swayed you doormat.
>>
>>30451446
You know, I just finally remembered to get around to looking up Eshe's name. Either of Egyptian or Igbo origin, it means Life.

In case others don't remember Hot Rod is from Nimrod, mighty hunter, Helia is one of the Daughters of the Sun in Greek Myth, Aerin is likely the feminine form of Aaron/Arin and has a couple meanings, the most related one being Mountain of Strength. These names were not accidental.

Fara actually means lovely or pleasant.
>>
>>30451652
>These names were not accidental.
This was confirmed a while ago. Apparently the gods decided to put some subtle seeding in they heads for when they picked new names.
>>
Helia looks between the other two, her lips effectively healed from the time in the desert. “Alright, if it means that we're giving people magic, why not? They're living as slaves anyway... We're setting them free, right?”

Eshe smiles with an almost wicked grin just as affable,”Right. Let us go then.”

It's another two days until your part reaches the outskirts of Pahrump, the residiential outskirts beginning and the smallness of a 30,000 person town in the mountains and desert all the more apparent.

What's first?
Your wallet's cash is somehow intact, but you bear a california I.D. Dunno, might be trouble if you show it to anyone. You still going by Asher to civilians?(Read as: targets?)

I kinda wanted to try passing off illusioned money to 'buy' clothes, but then I realized that it would still feel like ice.

Maybe have the ravens steal some? Or just buy some clothes legit. How much money we have left?

We really should look less hoboish before the church happenings if we want to improve our chances of getting new members.
Though I doubt many will join since it is a church and all.

Then locate the church. If we see a newspaper stand thing, grab one. Wouldn't hurt.
>>
>>30451675
>[] “Acquire” clothing.
>[] Find a newspaper.

If we want to go without scrutiny then we have to look respectable. And we need to catch up on current events, see what the news is saying.

These are the two highest priorities, we can put off finding the church for a bit,

Hunter would probably make one hell of a pickpocket, it's like hunting just in a crowd. That's a good way to get cash and possibly identification if he finds someone that looks like one of us.

Other good methods for money would be using Magic to open up a secluded ATM and remove the money from it, we could probably do it with Ice to make keys for the locks, it might not even be noticed if we do it right. Obviously making sure cameras have some ice on them showing whatever we want.

That sounds good to me, then again I brought it up.

Be careful that we aren't being watched and any cameras around are fucked with. Get cash.

Be careful in buying clothes, 5 people who look like they've spent weeks in the desert tend to attract attention, try to avoid attention, clean ourself off with some water, try to look as clean as we can, go buy some clothes alone in about the right sizes for everyone.

They're looking for a group, and given that we're us we probably have the cleanest clothes of the group so we'll clean up the best.

Once we all look like normal people wearing normal clothes our lives will be a lot easier.

Then again, the rest of the group looks like a bunch of hobos and there's not much more than $60 cash between you and then plastic that might prove to an extremely bad idea given the state of California citizenry right now so that's off the table, but it does give you an idea.

Finding a rather remote ATM and leaving everyone else, you check about to make sure no one's really giving a fuck. It's then that you make use of a new trick you learned in the desert.
You cast an illusion into the air, replicating a normal ATM transaction with one hand while you pop the top of a water-bottle you've kept on your person since Sand Diego. Pushing it against a little key thing, you let the water in, harden, push out and a twist... It pops open and you could almost thank god for giving you this power when you realize it was more likely the devil.

You stuff your pants with bills numbering into the thousands before closing the little door, letting the machine be horrible low as you walk away, simulating the same thing with your illusion before finally dispelling it. Hell, you could probably buy a shitty car for cash like this. Then again, it might just be better to pay for a flight viao one of those private planes or something.
You kind of miss that helicop- THAT'S how they found you guys! You face-palm out of nowhere, freaking out a few folks that shy away from your antics.
That's how the hell you were tracked but... Ever since the trap, Hunter's been saying that he still felt someone out there. Later traps didn't yield anything and they never go close enough to confirm even after Eagle's Eye.
>>
It'd be troublesome if one of those damed stalkers came all the way out here.

Asking someone for the day and date reveals that it's July 1st, a tuesday.

You clean yourself up a bit and go clothes shopping. Based on what the others were wearing(or not concerning Eshe), you have an idea of what they'd like, but it occurs to you that it'd be best to be functional at the least.

Hunter's into the Swag -style. Name brand clothes and sagging shit. Not something that was really good for his activities. Running and jumping among other drills tore his skinnies to shreds. His request was pretty much something stylish. You just can't get a bead on that kid.

Aerin seems to be invested into sportswear and the like, though that's just her last outfit. She said that she'd like a light jacket or something, or shorts even. You see a really short pair and your mind goes to dark places. She lacks tits but she's got ass.

Helia may just be the hardest to please, she wasnt' really picky on any one thing. Just something comfortable to wear. Once more, your eyes are drawn to the short shorts, daisy dukes and... mini-skirt. Yes, this must be the answer that you were waiting for. The deliverance from the evil of the world. The ultimate rebellious legwear that simply refuses to stay put.

This is... But what about Eshe? A tribal necklace is the only thing she really seems to wear. She didn't have an opinion on what to get at all, if anything she seemed less than pleased at the prospect of clothes.. Ah, right. Her fish-form. Something that didn't restrict that would be good...
Maybe, has to be the skirt and a belly-shirt.

Then again, you're not familiar with fashion.

>Second to last post tonight is a fashion one. What will Asher by for everyone as he's been trusted with this most divine task?
>>
>>30452148

>Sensible clothing for all...
Or
>Ridiculous clothes that show off their best points.

What'll Asher get? Leaving it up a bit to rule of cool.Or thinking with dick.
>>
>>30452228
>>Sensible clothing for all...
>>
>>30452148
Try to avoid the temptation to buy nothing but short shorts and miniskirts.

For Hunter, I don't even know what is stylish. Just get him some pants that won't get ripped to shit and maybe a tshirt with a douchey logo to placate him.

Ok fuck it. I'm not typing it out for everyone.

>>30452228
Sensible, mostly.
>>
>>30452148
Well, considering that we're in a desert we should probably dress light. Also, since we're terrorists and spend a lot of our time trying not to die they should be somewhat practical. Pockets are useful.

Make sure everyone has light jackets with plenty of pocket space.

For Hunter I'd go for cargo shorts, plenty of pockets, get him a belt, indulge him a bit with the shirt, make it a dark coloring that doesn't stand out much, not black, black leaves a silhouette in the night, but make sure it has a cool design of some kind on it.

Generally go for sensible clothing for people, but make the clothing light, the skirts and shorts for the ladies should be reasonably short, miniskirts should be fine, not shorter than that for skirts, short shorts as long as they have pockets are wonderful. Make sure that plenty of skin is showing, for the heat of course, and to avoid restricting movement.

Basically practical, but aim for hot as well.

What about this for Asher?

And that pic. It was so darkseid until I saw those fucking pants. Wow... what the hell.

>>30452307
THat actually sounds pretty funny. Especially if he got himself a $300 jacket.
>>
>>30452228
Redonculous, go.
>>
>>30452228
Sensible, but try to humour their requests, like name brand for Hot Rod.
Skirts are dumb for anyone but Eshe, but only because she wouldn't intend to be wearing it for long anyways.
Aerin said she wanted shorts. Know what she needs? Bike Shorts. Yeah. Just the right mix of athletic and... attractive.

>>30452307
This 30452307 was my post so don't count this post twice as a vote.
>>
>>30452294
I would not want to wear that in Vegas in the middle of the Summer. It'd be way too fucking hot, we'd have to spend a lot of effort refrigerating ourself.

>>30452337
Those scarfs are remarkably practical, I wouldn't mind those or something similar.

>>30452343
I like it, though it might be a bit too warm for the time being.

And while it'd be funny to get them cheap stuff, we have plenty of cash, and can always acquire more. Get them nice stuff as well.

Also for Eshe, given that we want it to work with her transformation it will show a fair bit of skin, a skirt as shorts might interfere with some of the stuff at the hips and top of the legs, no sleeves, show some midriff.

And this totally isn't because I want to spend more time ogling.
>>
>>30452366
>>30452384
I can second the bike shorts.

>>30452337
I like the idea of the scarves.

>>30452294
That would be fucking awesome if not for the pants.

>>30452343
>What about this for Asher?
Maybe? I don't want to go too overboard on it and get the minions pissy. I guess we could just make some excuses like "I have less of a chance of getting my stuff wrecked because if I get hit I'll just die" and if they're really indignant about it, we can just give them some cash to buy something they want. It's not like we can't just rob another ATM in Vegas.

Though the real problem is that it's fucking hot out. So I'd rather wait to buy an expensive jacket until we're not in a fuckin desert.
>>
>Asher shopping for three women.
Heh.
Then they are going to need to wash up before they put the clothes on. I can totally take care of that with hydrokinesis. No that isn't just like me thoroughly groping you, what are you talking about.
>>
>>30452467
>Fara hits him in the balls again
>>
>>30452467
Oh, Aquatic Perception, letting us know intimately in our mind's eye every curve of their beautiful bodies.

Also, we should grab Fara something nice while we're here, she'd appreciate it, ask if she wants anything to wear.
>>
>>30452492
She can't actually wear clothes but she's at Rank 4 now so we can modify her. Asking her if she wants to join in on the new duds thing might not be a bad idea.
>>
>>30452459
Granted, a heavy jacket could be drenched and then operated magically to cool his body down. Heavier clothes can actually increase cooling due to the effect of sweat removing heat.

Can't believe I forgot that.
Leather is a definite no for hot weather but something voluminous will actually help a lot and reduce sunburn for extended outside time.
>>
>>30452513
So the darkseid coat thing is actually a good idea!
>>
>>30452513
>>30452527

It would be fun to get if only to see everyone else wondering what the fuck is wrong with us and then we be all "Ice magic makes this shit work!"
>>
>>30452513
You do have a point there, we can do that with magic.

Though if we bundle up too much we might look out of place. We should be careful about that.
>>
>>30452513
Can we get an eyepatch that isn't a bandage? Or something to put over our gaping eye-hole?

>>
Asher must look maximum edge right now. Gotta get those chained pants and some spiked collars to complete the look.
>>
>>30452620
Nah. Palmtree shorts.

>Need water...
>A breeze or something, jesus christ.

>>
>>30452642
I actually see Asher as one of the few people who could pull off wearing a fedora, especially if he was wearing a suit as well.
>>
I just noticed that Asher's wearing a pendant thing in the OP pic. Looks like the ice tear in a vial. Did we do that? I don't remember doing that.
>>
>>30452708
As much as I wouldn't mind giving Asher a fedora, there's that damn stigma.

Can we just get a simple shirt with jeans?
>>
You stare at the miniskirts for a while longer until you feel an aggravating nip in the air from what you swear to be your nanny at this point.
[Asher...]You stare at the clothing as Fara chides you, putting back the ridiculously short skirts.

Alright... Cargo shorts for Hot Rod, a change of sock and underwear.. You're both about the same size for that anyway. One pack works.
A skirt for Eshe and a stretchy sports bra light enough to not bother her for the heat. At the very least it kind of goes with the skirt as you estimate the women's sizes.

You snatch up Bike Shorts for Aerin, she might actually just appreciate them with her little request, and you grab a light training jacket along with a set of woman's tanktops for her and Helia,

To finish, you get a pair of yoga pants for Helia to go with her more slender frame and a decent jacket/hoodie combo for yourself with the realization that you can line the space inbetween with ice to create some kind of armor. “Yes... this is good.” You through everything together and get remotely correct sizes of bra and panty They'll just have to deal with it in any case.

As you make your way to checkout you find a real prize. Shades.

You grab a rectangular pair for yourself, a novelty shutter pair for Hot Rod to see how he'll take that. Some bug eyes for Helia, aviators will give Aerin some authority, and Eshe... Never could get a read on Eshe's style... With her nonexistence of one.

You draw for a random pair. And pull out... Something from the 80's. Alright. Sure.

You get the craziest looks at checkout, and see Fara pat the cashier's cheek as you leave, spooking the person something fierce.

You've got the date, a fat stack of cash, and a bunch of clothes for people you've shared the last two weeks with.
Few days from now, if nothing happens to change, you'll be praising Asherah in a church because why the hell not. These people look bored.

>It'll be time to turn their worlds upside-down..
> END THREAD

>>30452752
>He also grabbed Afghans, because those are going to be crazy important.

>You get the craziest looks at checkout, and see Fara pat the cashier's cheek as you leave, spooking the person something fierce.
Fara so fucking best.

>>30452796
Can some oaths boost skills up more than one rank?
>>
>>30452752
I hope Asher at least mentions the magical wash and dry service. I'd like it if Eshe accepted and didn't mention until after that she knows a nerve can naturally sense through their native element. I doubt Fara would let us get that far though.
>>
>>30452809
Nah, it's the one here>>30452343

>>30452856
1 oath. 1 boost per skill.

>Fara so fucking best
Glad you're liking her.

So, I'm wondering.

The other characters right now. Thoughts? Like to know what I might need to work on with them.
>>
>>30452915
You need to stop mixing up the names of places. It's funny the first time, but then holy shit LA isn't even in the same state.

No real criticisms of the writing of the characters. Just generally worried about how it feel like we're spinning plates and every time we lurch to keep one going another wants to flee the stick.

And how bad would it have gone if we'd tried to summon up 512? Like I said, I wanted to, but I thought Eshe would get mad as hell after her "NO CHILDREN" thing.
>>
>A nerve that got Math Manipulation as their starting power.
That would be so much bullshit. They could make a zone of inverting velocity or multiplying all forces by 0 and that's just with my uncreative tired mind.

What would it take to unlock math manipulation?
>>
>>30452752
It was fun playing, see you next time.

Did Fara want any clothes? We can probably just imagine them into existence for her, and it'd show we care.

I'm wondering if sleeping with Fara would make her more or less possessive and jealous of us paying attention to anyone else.

>>30452874
And when it gets to Hot Rod, we just dump a bucket of water on him.

I'm kidding, as funny as it would be, we should probably just not pay any attention to that part of it.

>>30452915
I'm liking Hot Rod, sure he's juvenile, but he's competent, generally practical, and a damn fine underling.

Eshe is still one of my favorites, I like her world view and morality.

I'd like more time with all of them to get to know them better, but it's been good so far.

Though we should probably have a chat with Aerin some time, see how she's handling all of this. She seems less on board with the Followers than the others, and mainly seems to be doing this for us.

So we should spend some time talking with her and make sure she's in good condition and the stress isn't getting to her in a bad way.
>>
>>30452959
I've mixed up the two las's in my head more than once. That's why I'm just sticking with Vegas now.

>>30452959
>And how bad would it have gone if we'd tried to summon up 512?
Not exceptionally terrible. but still kind of bad.
The shade is an echo instead of being the actual soul. It couldv'e been interrogated for more information, though Eshe may have respected you a bit less.

In any case, "No Children" is a big deal to the followers. And not just because "Muh children!"
>>
>>30452998
Might have to do with the usage of child soldiers in skirmishes in Africa.

And one of the important things about the Followers is that they offer choices to people, they don't force others to join them, and 512 didn't even get a choice in the matter.
>>
G'night folks, it's been swell.
See ya next time.
>>
>>30452998
We saw some retardation in 512. Does that imply that kids awakening get fucked in the head or was it the government having an easier time controlling retard-o-trons?
Either way, Im thinking we'll see more of these kids.
>>
>>30453072
G'night. I look forward to Tues/Weds
>>
>>30453073
Probably specifically designed to be that way. Both DNA manipulation and mind manipulation are Nerve powers, both of which are far more effective when applied to a person young.

>>
>>30453073
Well she said she was six months old, she hasn't really had enough time to fully develop.

As for why they are this was, my guess is a combination of factors, they're easier to control this way so they angle for it, it might be a side effect of whatever processes they use to create these guys and teach them, there's no way she learned the entire English language, motor skills, and all sorts of other stuff in six months without something else being involved, and awakening is traumatic, it probably wasn't good for their mental well being.
>>
>>30453133
>>30453129

We should probably put together some beast summons, hopefully before we do the Church thing, they aren't really that complicated to work with, and they give us some brute muscle.

I'd say Lions, they're Asherah's favored animal, they're extremely dangerous, they're pack hunters, we can get fast hunters by using female ones or big bruisers with the males. It's a solid animal, and it's thematic.

>>
>>30453439
I hadn't even noticed that, this is going to be a fun sermon.

We can use a pack of lions to maim them. Or at least a couple of them, it ought to be suitably biblical to shake their faith, especially after their pastor was crucified and drowned in front of them.

Also, we should wear an ice mask that shifts to show our expression underneath the mask. We might even be able to shift it so that it acts as a one way mirror.

I wouldn't be surprised if our sermon got put online, Asherah would probably be happy if her reminder was spread, so keeping our faces hidden is probably a good idea. And the mask along with our single glowing blue eye ought to catch attention.
>>
>>30453509
The ice mask idea would probably make Fara happy. Something about being closer to her or something.
>>
>>30453509
I don't think using the lions to maim is a good idea. I'd rather go with the steam/ice burns to make patterned scars on them.
>>
>>30453555
Scars are also good, and even if we don't maim people with them they are a great way to cover the exits and keep the people pacified.

Steam that we make act as a solid would probably be great for precise burns. Also, since we can probably restrain them, we can then muscle through their magic resistance and control water in their body, it's not practical for a fight, but there's so many ways we could mark people using that.

We should have variety in what mark is inflicted though, it's personalized, and not all of them need to be immediately obvious to someone looking. Be creative.

Eshe probably has more experience in this so we can probably get some advice from her, especially if there's a way to know which ones are likely to awaken, that'd make it faster.
>>
>>30453758
I realized shortly after posting the steam thing that regular water with Materia Firma will be far better for the maiming than steam or ice.

>Make water have consistency of gel
>Make a pattern with it on patch of flesh we want maimed
>Make it either super cold or super hot
>Or flash back and forth between them
Ta-da! Instant painful as all fuck maiming. And they get a neat scar pattern pseudo-tatto thing from it instead of a missing tongue / slashed belly / glasgow smile / pulverized eye / other fucked thing.

Incorporating DCLXVI into a mark on their forehead would really fuck with them hard. Probably up awakening rates but absolutely kill any chances of getting new members to the Followers.
>>
>>30453805
We should not do ice burns. It goes against Sculptor.
