This is hanging on the board at my FLGS.

It's probably a joke, but there's this part of me that wants it to be true. I want this girl to show up in the store when I'm there and update the poster so I'll know it's her and that this is a real thing and not a joke the store staff are playing. Not because I want to meet this "grrrl gamer", but because it would mean that all the funny stories I read on /tg/ are probably true.

So... /tg/ stories about other gamers, wacky gaming experiences, That Guys, whatever is funny, I guess.

I guess I can recycle one of my That Guy stories.
>running 3.5
>one player is running a chaotic neutral lolsorandumb elf who's obsessed with cats
>always asking if there are any cats on scene, keeps looking for catfolk to "glomp" them.
>the party winds up going to investigate a textile mill that had suffered a monster attack.
>he splits off from the party like a genius.
>perfect opportunity; I tell him he sees a cat one the other side of the room, that darts behind a piece of machinery after "meowing" at him.
>trying to recreate that scene in Alien where a dude get's attacked by the monster while he's focused on the cat.
>but the player has seen Alien, too.
>metagames like a bastard, nopes the fuck out of there, completely dropping his prior characterization.

That jerk.

Paranoia is an integral part of the Murder-Hobo breed. One time I was in a Dark Heresy campaign that had so brutalized the party that we ended up running from every adventure hook and plot point the GM dropped in front of us. The plot had to run us down like a wild animals to get us to engage the GM's carefully planned encounters and NPCs.

You got it all wrong. It doesn't have references to those works specifically, but rather to the things from those works that have permeated through into popular culture. She doesn't have to play Legend of Zelda to know to hate Navi or play Star Fox to know that she should do a barrel roll since the internet tells her it's trendy to have these opinions or to say these things.

So since she's throwing horribly explicit references everywhere I think I feel ashamed in not recognizing the symbol to the bottom right.

There's a guy I used to always see at the Burger King in the town I went to college in. He always wore a red T-shirt with holes in it, and these fat suspenders with all kinds of buttons with Counselor Troi from TNG on it. He was maybe in his 40s, long balding hair and BCG eyewear.

I used to always wonder how those guys happen.

Now, at my FLGS, there's this kid I always see. He wears a black T-shirt, a denim vest with MLP buttons all over it, and fingerless gloves.

One day, many years from now, a confused college kid will see an older, fatter version of him in a fast food join all the time when he's catching a meal between classes. He'll wonder how that exactly happens.

And the circle will be complete.
>>

Are...are you the fat guy in the mlp vest and fingeless gloves? That's what "And the circle will be complete" implies.

I've been seeing more and more people sporting fedoras with pins stuck all over them. Most people in these parts of the Internet hate them, but all I can do is pity them. And wonder how the fuck they can consume any modern pop culture and be that self-unaware.
>>
>>30448408

Negative. I am not that guy. I am just bad at idioms, I guess.
>>
>>30448344
Sometimes I stop and wonder if I am one of these people and just don't know about it.

I was in my LGS today with some of my friends, and I realized that in regards to appearance, half of them fit in perfectly with the rest of the grognards, and the other half are well on their way.

Makes you think.
>>
Shit like this is why I never go out looking for people to play with. I have an open-minded group of friends, and so I introduced them all to PnP gaming, and they liked it.

Now I have about 15 different people I can game with, all of which are rad people, and that I taught how to actually enjoy RPGs instead of going about murderhoboing.
>>
>>30447299
I dunno what the issue is. Most nerdy girls I've run into are spazzes and pop culture whores. And everyone in my group rolls special snowflakes anyway so no worries if she's one of those types too.
As long as she didn't disrupt the game with her rambling talk of harry potter and whatnot it wouldn't be an issue.
>>
>>30448413
It still baffles me that calling someone a 'fedora-wearer' is now pretty much a universally accepted insult on the internet and yet these people who likely spend all day erry day on the web just don't get it.
>>
>>30448226
There's a guy into PFS at my local FLGS who has a speech impediment, like straight up Doctah Wahwee type. And all he buys with his gold is invisibility potions. His character must be about seventh level by now but it's still wearing first level gear and everything. He just has a bag full of invisibility potions, and he drinks them all the time. Even if he's already invisible, he drinks another.

I'll say. Just remember in the future, "the circle was complete" or "things have come full circle" implies that you found yourself in the role of the person you were viewing in the firstplace, and someone else is in the role you were once in.
>>

The kind thing to do is call her out on her fucking awful lifestyle.

Jesus, it seems like forever ago when I noticed a few people started talking about this new My Little Pony remake thing or whatever. I didn't give it much thought, and I found it kind of funny that a few people thought it was actually pretty good. I thought it would blow over within a few weeks. And then people started to change their forum avatars and make increasingly elaborate fan arts and photoshopping ponies into pictures of the Warsaw Ghetto and wearing their shirts everywhere. And then the fedoras. Oh god, so many of them.

I long for the days of old when the nerds the rest of us didn't want to associate with were just wearing flame t shirts and fingerless gloves.

I honestly think it's just a slippery-slope kind of deal.
Much like weird-ass sexual fetishes, it starts at a relatively sane and normal-ish level. Maybe that trenchcoat DOESN'T look stupid, or maybe that 5 o'clock shadow makes you think you'd look rather dapper with a beard. Maybe you words like "dapper" to describe yourself. It descends further and further until you're wearing a fedora and MLP vest, in a burger king, or, for the porn analogy, fapping to cube-girlsI THINK that's what they're called (or something equally incomprehensible to people who aren't just as deep in the pit as you are)

>>30448531
No it doesn't. It implies that something has gone full circle. Although the example wasn't any good as it didn't explain how the circle began, only the middle and final stage of the circle. "the circle was complete" does not necessarily have anything to do with the person telling the story.
Just so you know.

I have a friend that wears a trenchcoat, sort of As an actual cold weather coat, mainly. But it manages to work for him because he's a chill as fuck Mexican music major that's insanely nice to everyone, and exudes enough charisma to counteract the dual assumptions that he deals drugs and molests children.

How about we describe the most stylish and least stylish person at our LGS?

For me, most would be a Filipino man who always wears quality, comfortable looking sweatpants, jandals, Calvin Klein T-shirts, and a leather wristband. He is very muscular, and tanned.

The least stylish would be a very red-faced person, who has greasy glasses, untrimmed 5-O'clock shadow, wears spiked chokers and wristbands, and heavy leather trenchcoats in the middle of summer.

>>30448907

Maybe it's just personal experience, but I have not seen much of that in P&P RPGs. I think that the truly sad and lonely among us would rather deal with a girl online where they can never actually have to see them face to face and can pretend they are super hot waifu worthy goddesses.

I run into a good amount of women who cannot get into a real life RPG group because the "omg I am grrl gamer ;^)" shit is really fucking annoying in person, and most people wont put up with it unless the girl is having sex with them. Most of them hop from group to group until they either hook up with a GM, or run out of groups willing to put up with their shit and just start playing WH or something.
>>
>>30448973
I haven't reached a level of fat neckbeard to be able to handle that shirt. I am but a novice in my plaid shirts.
>>
>>30448767
Part of it is that trenchcoats, topcoats, and the like are weather-specific (and thus also region-specific) first and foremost. Fashion is a distant second to necessity for such articles of clothing.

Secondly, they are meant to accompany certain clothing and look especially out of place with anything other than formalwear. Layered over casual wear they just look jarring.

They live, and they are among us. Let me tell you the tale of a man so gruesome that the mere sight of him could slay a Gorgon.

This guys name was Harry, but he wanted everyone to call him Kevlar. He was fat, like really fat. Like a pear given human form. He had it all too, long greasy hair, neckbeard, stained t-shirts and torn sweat pants. Instead of a fedora he wore a beret.

He told everyone he was the leader of a security company, tried to get store owners to give him free stuff in exchange for his protection, smelled like eggplant farts and wet shit.

He would show up to the LGS I went too all the time, set up at a table and spread his MtG shit all over it. He then spent the day trying to rip off small children.

Then one day he just stopped showing up, I heard years later that he got busted for trying to hook up with some 14 year old homeless girl, and the police found tons of cp on his computer but I don't know if it's true.

>Part of it is that trenchcoats, topcoats, and the like are weather-specific

I wore a trenchcoat to the LGS one evening. I saw some kids snickering and pointing, all making fun of it and shit.

>I'm a middle aged man who was wearing a suit and tie that night because I was coming from something else, and it was fucking raining outside.

These things reach some kind of pop culture saturation where people don't even realize that these articles of clothing have a purpose that preceded being an edgy faggot.

I heard a theory once (on /tg/) about why social misfits tend to be child molestors. While going through their teens, they never got any proper social interaction with the opposite gender. Their preference in girls simply hasn't been able to evolve and mature, and they are stuck with the attraction that they first had as a young teen, even though they have grown older in body.

It made perfect sense to me

Do this, make a dwarf druid with a bear companion. He is part of a druid cult known as the Children of Ditka. Ditka was once a powerful druid who fought against an eveil litch who had his Phylactery spread between 6 superb owls. Ditka and a force of 86 bears stormed the Lich's castle and defeated the lich. After the titanic battle so much bear essence was used that Ditka created and ascended to the elemental plane of Bears where he lives now as the king of the bears.

There's a little more to it than that. First, refreshing as it may be in comparison to pulling teeth from some people, she has a really bad case of can't shut the fuck up. I'm GM, that's my job and I've learned how to keep it in check. She's clearly going to have her own FOREST OF PISS that she'll autistically repeat because she doesn't know that variety is the spice of life and randumness doesn't count.

Second, if she doesn't have the worst case of 'new girl, special snowlake character' and the accompanying passive aggressive buttmadness when you ask her to tone it down, she's going to have little to add that's original, or at least obscure enough to appear so.

I'd take a chance if I ever accepted randoms, but would still only do so if it were a one shot and I had my best players sitting around her. Sessions are rare and valuable as it is, and dealing with someone else's growing pains or outright kicking them out is murders a campaign.

Same here, but sometimes I wish I could try with a group of people I dont know. People I have been gaming with for years are great, love em' to death. But we all know each others mannerisms, and even if you play a character out of norm, its still easy to find patterns. Normal group:
>Knows what your going to do. Surprizes and plot twists are always a challenge
>You go out of character more then in character because you end up talking to them unknowingly more often
>Times whe you really want to be in character, other players are comfortable enough around you to poke fun at you and make jokes
>The feel of getting to know a character in game is lost because its "Well, X always makes a character somewhat related to y".

Again, I love my group and DM, but sometimes, I just want to start at the bottom.

>She just proved she has imagination
I see not a lick of imagination in that abortion of language. If anything I see a deficient. She has the opportunity to come up with something interesting, or at least mature, and instead responds with a erratic, jarring checklist of out-of-context pop culture references, most of which are so badly misused I'm certain she's never so much as skimmed the works in question. It is the very definition of derivative humor, which is to say not humorous at all.

/tg/, I have a question

I have one friend who I call "max-kun"
Neither him nor I are actually that into japanese culture, neither of us speak even a lick of japanese, and we only watch the barest amount of anime.
Hell, he's chinese.

So what's it called when I do this? I'm not seriously using an honourific, but at the same time I'm not using it like a high-school anime club would, and it's not just a one-time joke thing.

Is it ironic? Post-ironic? Or are those just douchebag hipster terms and it's a normal thing?

I'd consider it an in-joke. Nothing to be worried about. If anyone calls you out on it and you don;t want to seem weeb, you could say that its a star wars reference, but that might be going too far the other way.

well there's your problem: if the mainstream people say they're nerds, they're probably the cookie-cutter larval-level nerds like the girl in OP's post.

what uni btw?

I feel that know. Slowly I've gone from punk, to indie, to folk, to electro-folk, to ambient, and down, and down.

It's gotten to the point where sometimes my roommate just finds me curled up on top of the refrigerator, loudly complaining that its hum is derivative garbage.

I have a bro that I met a a non-profit. We had two fellows there named kevin, so for the sake of differentiation and communication that wouldn't really do. One was Asian, and you can't just call one guy asian-kevin and the white guy kevin. Its just not an OK thing to do. So my buddy kevin was going through a bondage pants phase (lol teenage years) so we wound up calling him "emo-kevin" which eventually got shortened to emo-k. Hes outgrown that phase and is now a grown ass man, but I still call him by that name. It is cemented in my mind as his primary identity. Nobody seems to care. Thus, there's a lot of wiggle room for bro-memetics in society. Nobody is gonna bust your balls over calling him kun unless you do it in an anime voice or something.

Kara's one of God's Own Prototypes, too weird to live and to rare to die. Somehow more introverted and extroverted than a human being could ever be.

How the hell could you turn down the chance to NOT play a game? Even if its UTTERLY AWFUL, its probably memorable trainwreck of an anecdote worthy.

Its like a real life version of Call of Cthulhu. You've everyt reason to expect to be horrified and have your worldview skewed for the rest of your life.

Do you dare answer the Cthulhuphone?
