Notes on Rolls and Voting:

When I request rolls, each set of three rolls counts for one action. For example, a two-step plan would take the first 6 linked rolls. A particularly bad failure can interrupt a string of actions.

When rolling 1d100, I will consider criticals within the first ten linked rolls. Only criticals that occur in the first three rolls will be counted as "supercrits". This is still the case even if you'd have plan long enough to require more than ten rolls.

When rolling 1d20, the rules are the same, but I only consider criticals for the first five rolls, rather than ten. Criticals in the first three are still "supercrits".

When a plot choice results in extensive debate, I'll try to weed out the most popular trains of thought, and then call a vote on them. When voting, please respond with only a link back to the post and the number corresponding to your opinion. Other votes are discounted, including those with dice rolls or extra spaces.

Finally, note that this is not a democracy; it is a benevolent dictatorship.

Arland Summit Summary: Goals, Objectives, and Major Characters (thanks to Sorry for helping me and the players out!):

http://pastebin.com/FsP2C5Hr
-----

Recent Events Summary:

You pursued Matthel into the bowels of the cathedral, and managed to subdue him. However, you let your guard down, and he used the opportunity to warn Metatron to release the sigil's anchor and move it to safety.

Arcturis, Hemmelus, and yourself entered the sigil cavern to stop Metatron. A prolonged battle forced Metatron to activate his most powerful spell, which, while killing him, managed to hold you off long enough to transport the sigil to safety.

You're now regrouped with your allies, and Arcturis, who has comitted himself to your alliance. With Sandalphon scheduled to arrive the next morning, however, he worries that you have no advantages - and now that the fourth demon lord has been summoned, you need every friend you can get.

You've consulted with Adavan, who managed to steal the final key to Hecate's seal during the battle against Metatron. You've agreed to free Hecate, after discussing the plan with your inner circle - Donovan, Auriel, Abigail, and Ila.

You then brought together Auriel and Fang, who agreed that it was the time to contact the Black Lady. But when you called, she didn't answer.

Later, you revealed the plan to unseal Hecate. Auriel didn't protest, but insisted she wouldn't help you, still unable to forget the war she fought against the former. You went with Abigail, Ila, and Adavan. A demon lord made a surprise appearance, but you managed to get away without any problems.

You unsealed Hecate, and have gotten her up to speed on current events, and on Erebus's original plan.

You've returned to Arland, and now face Sandalphon, who has brought his angels and his allies from Atlantis - and the Black Lady.

"Where is Matthel, my Lord Flint?"

"He's otherwise occupied," Arcturis says. "With the Lord Waterford, who has gone north to attend to his forces personally."

"I see. And young Donovan? I've heard nothing but praise for the...Demonslayer."

"Coordinating between Waterford and the Duke Vellik's remaining troops, in the Great Forest."

"Is that so."

You don't think Sandalphon buys that explanation for a minute, but it seems he's letting it slide for the time being.

He looks at Auriel. "...Auriel."

"Sandalphon."

"We must talk, later."

"We can talk now, if you'd like," she says. "I care not to discuss it in public."

"I do."

"I don't. If you have something to say to me," Auriel says, "you can say it right here and now."

And there's that tension again. Your jaw aches from being clenched.

"I will say this," Sandalphon says. "Now is not the time for task-taking - not until after the demons have been banished. But before I let bygones be bygones, you will suffer the consequences of insubordination, and of the destruction you wrought."

"It was not of my making," she says.

"Was it not you that stole the Noiralev to aid the rebel Shadow Mages?"

"You built a bomb under the city and then complain when it blows up under you? And rebels? You mean escaped slaves."

"Like I said," Sandalphon says, "a discussion for another time."

"I'll stop talking when you stop talking."

"Sandalphon," Charmeine says. "What does she mean? I would hear what Auriel has to say."

"Suffice to say that the lense of interpretation is deeply tinted," Sandalphon says.

Auriel snorts, but lets the matter drop.

And then Sandalphon's gaze turns to you. "...and this...must be the infamous John Nyx."

You stare back at him. His eyes burn with Light. Yours are dark with Shadow.

What do you say to him?

>Be blunt. "What of it?"
>Be diplomatic. "I am he, Most High."
>Brush him off and politely greet the Black Lady.

I believe we were planning on doing this.

>>30468783

>I am he, Most High.

I'm incredibly paranoid that Sandalphon somehow knows we're Erebus and is planning to out us in front of the whole of Venia.
>>
>>30468783
>Brush him off and politely greet the Black Lady.

We were gonna try to rustle Sandlephon's jimmies, right?
>>
>>30468813
>>30468826
...Are you sure? He goes through all the work to make it easier for us to separate any obvious connections of Archon to the Black Lady, and you want the liaison between Archon and Haven to greet her while being rude to him?

U got guts.
>>
>>30468783
>Be diplomatic. "I am he, Most High."

Pokerface.
>>
Something of Auriel to remember, in her intentions to use Melody to offset Fang.

I think it would be best to get the Black Lady's permission to reveal her own past to Fang, and even have her do it herself, not just to distract him but so they can clear their own air. She wants to leave it in the past and simply move on, quite similar to how Fang acted after their separation, I believe we can explain Yi's situation to her with more detail to convince her that it is best for him if they can trust each other more deeply. She said she's a different person now, but she also said that this was a chance to lower barriers, and forge friendships, but she also believed his heart has been rotted by his own self-imposed isolation. We need to tell her that that isn't correct to convince her otherwise, based on Abigails actions and our own and how they've affected Yi Fang.

This is also so Fang doesn't make the connection between Auriel getting convinced to bring the Black Lady to Arland and our staged meeting between them in Archon, he'll believe we orchestrated the Melody reveal and hate us for keeping it a secret from him and attempting to dupe him with something that is incredibly personal.
In this way Auriel gets the goal she wanted and the Black Lady doesn't have to give us a really disappointed look for breaking a promise and letting someone else take advantage of it in the specific way that reveals her past to someone she cared for.

The only guaranteed drawback of this is that Yi is intelligent enough to realize that she likely has the Staff of Winds, which he wants for Archon. Though I believe that benefits us more, since he'll have to ask nicely (or at least passive smugly) if he really wants it.
The alternative is that Auriel does it herself, along with all of the consequences that brings.

As an aside SM, I enjoyed how Fang told us not to taunt Sandalphon, but then did it himself anyways. Maybe he only told us that that so we didn't get to do it before him, eh?
>>
>>30468783
Offer him a curt nod of acknowledgement and then greet the Black Lady.
>>

So did I.
>>
>>30468952
Now the question is, does he know about Metatron's death?

I mean, he has to see Matthel and Flint's absences as pretty suspicious, doesn't he?
>>
>>30469023
Can we telepathically ask Auriel to put her plan on hold for now, with the whole Melody reveal thing?

I think we just got some exciting new variables.
>>
>>30469026

Possibly not - Metatron's one and only goal was to guard the sigil downstairs. He's certainly on guard with the two most important Flint brothers missing, but considering how Metatron's presence under the Cathedral was itself a huge secret, I'm not sure he'd be able to determine that Metatron is dead without some skulking around in the next few days.
>>
Not to steal the thunder from current trains of thought, but I just realized something completely unrelated.

If we get Shadefang Poison wont we get a tree completion bonus for the yellow one? I feel like this should have been brought up in the past.
>>
>>30469026
If he doesn't know about his death I kinda want to be there when he figures it out, to laugh at him via telespeak.

We could even rub it in, say,
>we transform into Raziel
<Four.>
>transform into Metatron
<Three.>
>transform into Lucifer
<Two.>
and then CONSUME sandelphon

don't do this

I'd do it just so Ila could watch and have some happy vengeance time.
The things you'd do for family, eh?
>>
"I am he, Most High," you say. "I didn't realize I was infamous."

"Indeed?" Sandalphon says. "I'd have thought that the man that made Yi Fang and Arcturis Flint sit down in the same room without trying to kill each other would have a higher opinion of himself."

"That wasn't so me as the effort of a large number of people."

"Oh, don't be so modest." Sandalphon plants his feet down, facing you fully. Apparently he has a bone to pick. "It was going to be difficult work, bringing the leaders of Venia under one roof to face this terrible threat - but you've done it all for me. In a way, I should be thanking you."

"...I think old prejudices, and grudges," you say, "were preventing people from talking more than anything else. The demons on the horizon pushed us together more than anything." You glance at Auriel, and then Abigail. "But it took the right people to see what had to be done."

"You're an insistent one," Sandalphon says. "You're a man of action, aren't you?"

"Some people call me that."

"Actions speak louder than words," Sandalphon says. "Unfortunately, today, I'll have to speak softly. I can take no actions."

"I'm afraid I don't follow you."

"Well, you see," he says, "due to Auriel's long history of good will, public service, and indomitable self-sacrifice, I am, in her case, prepared to be lenient. You have no such credit to your name. And in such a blatant case such as this, I would place you under arrest for disrupting the public order as a subversive agent of Archon, leading a rebellion of shadow mages within the empire itself, destroying swathes of the Ring City and lives therein, destroying one airship and stealing and -then destroying a second. In addition, you are personally implicated in the murder of three of the Highest. And normally...I would bring these charges against you, swiftly, and completely.

Suspecting a trap, but seeing no other alternative, you give him an honest answer. "I do."

>Yes, I do.

"Most High - please consider that in each instance - each "crime" - you have listed, I have been acting either in defense of myself, who was being unlawfully assaulting, or for the safety of my companions, who were under threat of kidnap and torture. Surely, you can understand that while lawful power resides in Ring City's authority, even the Angels must follow those laws."

>>
>>30469745
I'll second this and also that we don't exactly want to confess one after another.
>>
>>30469622
>No. I'm guilty - just as guilt as you are. (bring him down with you)
>Yes, I do. What happened was a result of your policies, not mine. (make for the high ground)
>Not only are you taking this moment to point fingers, but that you are the one doing the pointing. You're a hypocrite. (evade and redirect)
Mix them.
We are guilty as fuck of killing three highest and inciting rebellion. Which makes us guilty of ridding the world of a monster, a frothing zealot who would kill innocents just to gank a shadow mage, and a man who practically killed himself in the pursuit of reawakening the elementomachy. But you already know that, Most High, so you come here to point and posture and puff yourself up. You hypocrite.
>>
>>30469745
That works.

>>30469768
Also this. I mean I'm pretty sure neither Raziel nor Michael nor Lucifer tried to surrender, or even flee.

Just kept trying to kill us until the very end.
>>
>>30469622
"No, Highest. Everything you say is true. I confess freely to the part I have played, and acknowledge the guilt of my 'crimes'. However, I would do it all again without a second thought, because Sandalphon, in my travels, I have seen a world that is sick, and will not recover on it's own. You do nothing to remedy the disease, and often simply make it so much worse. I could not stand by and watch."

I don't really know what I'm thinking here. Sort of a combination of the first two options?

"Well, From what I recall, I had never been to Archon prior to the freeing of the shadow and spirit mages you enslaved by binding their souls, So I could not have been 'a subversive agent of Archon'. I would not consider freeing slaves as 'leading a rebellion'... I recall your forces bombarding your city and you personally attempting to destroy it with a powerful spell, which I was informed was called 'Sun Calling' or something... While yes, one airship may have been taken to evacuate the slaves, It's destruction was due to damages caused by your forces firing upon it, with the destruction of the other simply a case of it was attacking us... Now, when you accuse me of 'murder', The first Angel I met was so hell bent of killing me, he was willing to destroy an entire Airship full of Civilians. The second was possessed by a demonic being calling itself Legion, who I have learnt to be what remains of Erebus's Arbiter, And I do not know who the third Angel you accuse me of murdering as Metatron both rejected demands to surrender and ended his own life though the use of blood magics to sustain a demonic parasite you implanted on Sir Donavan Flint, without his consent and concealing the lethality and detrimental effect it would have on him from his father."
"Now, I do not mean to suggest my hands are clean, only that yours are no cleaner. Should all the world leaders here judge that I am a criminal, I shall accept their judgement. After all, this is an alliance of equals, not an amalgamation into a larger empire..."

Wanted to point out something Adavan said a long time ago, in regards to my speculation during the last few threads about the power behind OI.

>Shadow, you can't be Erebus. Where Erebus walked, the very light itself faded. The air chilled. He could put out the sun by WILLING it. Yes, you have such might - I felt your power, before. But there's a difference between casting a spell and merely thinking something to happen."

"It sounds like you've already made up your mind about me," you say. "But you can't just throw accusations like that at someone without explaining why you have them. And some of them don't make any sense."

Sandalphon arches an eyebrow. "Excuse me?"

"First of all," you say, "I'd never even been to Archon before freeing the Shadow mages in the city, so I'm not sure how I could be Yi Fang's subversive agent."

"I can vouch for that," Fang says, "assuming you trust my word."

"I can vouch for that, as well," Auriel says, "assuming you can't."

"Under your command," you continue, "Lucifer bottled up the souls of shadow and spirit mages to make them your slaves. I wouldn't call freeing said slaves a rebellion."

"What?" Sandalphon says. "What in the elements are you talking about?"

"You're the on accusing me of crimes, and demanding I take responsibility. Perhaps you should do the same."

"Alright," Sandalphon says. "Unfortunately, the second Highest is not here to defend himself, but if you can produce evidence of this claim - "

"As soon as you present yours," you say.

"I saw the room." Everyone turns to look at Duke Vellik. The man stands with his arms behind his back. His voice is smooth and clam. "I'm sure you know I was there at the time of the rebellion - seeking aid against the threat that has already dominated my country. Lucifer showed me the vault in which you kept the souls, Most High."

"I..." Ila steps up to your shoulder. "...I was one of them. Unless you mean to tell me to my face that you didn't lock us in the sewers of the city for our lives, unless we were needed to eliminate the Empire's political problems or spy on your enemies. And your allies."

"I have the testimony, then," Sandalphon says, "of a man that has nothing more to lose, and some shadow-souled urchin who tags along behind Master Nyx. An ironclad case, to be sure."

>con't
>>
"It seems to me," the Black Lady says, "that you consider little testimony beyond your own worth its value."

<Thanks,> you tell her.

<But of course.>

"Furthermore," you say, "I didn't destroy the Ring City. Your own ships and soldiers did that. And in the case of harming any under your command, I did so only when myself or my companions were threatened with lethal force, which, I might add, was applied despite my attempting to reason with them. I am not a tenth as guilty of the crimes you sling at me as you are."

"I, too, vouch for John," Hemmelus says. The sage steps forward. "While he has been reticent, at times, he has never lied to me, Most High. I know not the full extent of his involvement in these matters, but he is not your enemy."

Sandalphon looks at you, then sweeps his gaze across the room. "Raziel, Michael, and Metatron are dead. Lucifer is missing." He looks at you. "I know you are responsible."

"You have evidence?"

"Circumstantial," Sandalphon admits, "but damning nonetheless."

You just look at him, waiting for him to bring this exchange to its conclusion.

"But," he says, "these are not normal circumstances. And so, for now, John, I'll accept that you have the best interests of your allies at heart, which, fundamentally, as the leader of the Empire, are my best interests, as well. But I will be watching you. And when this is over, I will bring you to task, and you will be judged. For good...or for ill."

Ooh I found this so late, I forgot to set early alarm. It's 7 in the morning.

I was afraid the Black Lady might've had her soul put in a jar. This may not be the case, however, as we might judge from her apparently free actions.

Secondly, our Arbiter gift isn't quite like a flower or box of chocolates to be given to our lover, but a way to weaponize someone. To have an extension of our will where we can't be, or someone to watch the house while we're gone.
Abigail has only once used our shadow gift, and that one time failed. While we might think she needs the protection, she has demonstrated she does not benefit from it at all.
Ila may benefit greatly, but we can't force this responsibility on her. It would be a great burden for someone we want to be free to live her life.
Instead, we should look for someone who's willing to sacrifice for their people, and wants to make things better for everyone. If what we've heard of the Black Lady from people not associated with the Empire, she may be a viable candidate - not only because she's capable of using that gift for greater things, but also because she holds such great control over Order.

Metatron was probably a cool dude except for the part where he was on True Believer duty summoning up the old boss.

Judging by context (including the book anecdote about Metatron escorting a historian to the magical null city), the blood magic thing was automatic. If not for his suppressive armor, he probably would've just been on fire 24/7.

The first is somewhat true but I'd actually argue against that second point. It's a way to make someone more like us, there's more to this quest than just combat and there's more to that decision than just making the most powerful thing we can. The person we pick to Arbiter is likely the only person who will ever be around for as long as we'll be. It's just as much an emotional decision as it is a combat one.

I am still catching up with the threads but is Sandalphon his original name? Or did the most highs took then after during the war with Erebus all those years ago? I mean calling him by his old name could be a great way to unbalance him. He sure as hell buys into the whole "Most High" thing that puts him above others.

This is a tacticool decision and totally doesn't mean I'm just disregarding SM's entire romantic subplot.
>>30471484
On the off-chance that you are actually just some guy who showed up (doubtful), you may as well leave now, because IA's shamefuru dispray last time made anyone who didn't support just giving Arbiter to Abby leave forever in fear of shame.

"I am familiar with judgement, Most High."

"Sadly, it will have to be put off."

"I agree that we have more pressing matters to deal with."

"I, for one," Abigail says, stepping around your left, "am glad that everyone is under one roof, and willing to work together."

"...you are Councilor Fang," Sandalphon says. "The new leaf."

Abigail furrows her brow. "New leaf?"

"That is what the nobles in the Empire are calling you," Sandalphon says. He smiles. "Though most mean it facetiously."

Abigail blinks a few times, then shrugs. "They may call me what they like. It matters not. What does matter is that the Ring City has come to work together with Archon and Arland in a time of trouble. I had been concerned, Most High, about how to present ourselves to you, but it seems that my worries were misplaced. Though..." She briefly touches your shoulder. "While I appreciate your, ah, apprehensions, regarding some members of the alliance, I am glad you are willing to set those issues aside. It echoes a message I have been repeating for some time, now."

"For now, councilor."

"Well," the Black Lady says, "all these words for the Most High, and not a one for me?" The Black Lady steps forward, takes Abigail by the shoulders, and gives her a quick peck on each cheek, in greeting. "I've missed our conversation, Abigail."

"Oh...ah...my Lady." Abigail seems a bit flustered. "I'm glad to see you, too."

"...what is this?" Sandalphon says. His voice is flat.

"Oh," Fang says, "we've been in touch with our esteemed Black Lady. A bit of give and take. Reaching out, establishing new friendships. Setting aside old grudges in the name of the greater good."

"I believe," Sandalphon says, his voice rising, "that we had agreed to contact the Black Lady together, at a mutually agreed time."

"Sorry I ruined your little surprise," Fang says. "I figured I'd go ahead and take care of it. Lay the groundwork. Isn't that right, my lady?"

>con't
>>
>>30471635

>>
The Black Lady smiles at Sandalphon. "What can I say? The Archmage won me over with his deadpan humor."

"They say puns are the lowest form of humor," Fang says.

"6 feet under, in fact."

"Makes sense that you find them amusing, then."

The Black Lady pouts. "Hypocrite."

Arcturis clears his throat. "I suppose Arland wasn't going to be in the loop, then, was it?"

"I was trying to find the right time," Fang says. "If I spoke at an inopportune moment, it could have been deadly."

"Perhaps you were worried your words would fall on dead ears?" the Black Lady asks.

"That too."

"Enough of this," Sandalphon says. "My navy is moving up as we speak. Arcturis, I'd like to be taken to my quarters, for now. Dobshire will be our rear command post. Vischon, if the Archmage is willing, will make an effective staging ground."

"Our alliance is already gathering there," Fang says. "Afraid you're dead last."

You can practically hear Sandalphon's teeth grinding in the back of his mouth. "...it doesn't matter. Let the leaders gather later today for a meeting. I have a strategy of attack prepared. Lord Flint, if you would."

Arcturis nods. "Most High. Highests. And Prince and Princess Deva, of course, and..."

"Lady will do fine," the Black Lady says.

"...my Lady. I would escort you to your suites personally."

"I'd appreciate that," Sandalphon says. The angel grants you one last look as they exit the room.

"Unbelievable," Yong Xu mutters. "We get the dungeons, and that asshole gets a suite."

Abigail stomps her foot on the floor. <Insufferable, arrogant, self-centered fool of an angel!> she says to you. <I had to stop myself from tearing his head off when he said those things about you!>

You feel a strange burst of love for Abigail.

Most of the group wanders off, either to their own quarters, or to try and relax or prepare. You have a few hours until your next meeting...along with your new 'allies', if the term can really be said to apply.

What do you do?

On the discussion of what should be our 3rd artifact I was wondering if we can "craft" an artifact? As in can we choose an object that itself has no real purpose and artifact it with an intent of use?

For example (and suggestion) could we take an adamantite ring and artifact it into an actual halo for someone to wear? Mind you this has nothing to do with whatever powers it may have.

You're surprised how friendly the Black Lady seemed with Fang. She was cool and collected, but...more personable.

Having it a secret that she's Melody is creating a problem. If Fang finds out - or he figures it out - at the wrong time, there could be serious consequences. You decide to head upstairs through the castle and speak to her in person.

You reach an intersection. Something white flashes.

You contort your body out of the way as a lance-wielding angel thrusts his weapon. He's glowing white - a bright, hot, unnatural white. You can feel his life force powering his magic. Blood magic - like the kind Metatron used - though not quite as volatile. He's not going to die in a few moments.

With his body weight forward, committed to that attack, he's totally vulnerable. You grab his weapon with one hand. It burns your skin, but you wrench it away; it loses its glow when he loses his grip. You snap it in two and toss it aside.

Simultaneously, with another arm, you whip the back of his head forward. And then your third arm catches him across the tip of his jaw, and he drops like a sack of potatoes.

>you've taken 2 damage (79/81)

His spell fades. An armored angel is now on the carpeted hallway in front of you, semi-conscious.

What do you do?

no wonder SandalThong enslaved the Shadow mages, Angelic assassins suck ass
>>
You Pocket the bastard up and consume his lance. No trace remains of the sudden and unexplained attack.

While you've got people to see, this takes precedence.

Sandalphon might be single-minded, but you don't think he's stupid. Even if the angel's attack struck home, he had to have known his man didn't stand a chance. He already knows you've taken down some of his Highest.

Still, with that blood magic, the angel would have done some damage. But to what purpose?

You turn about and head down toward the underbelly of the castle.

---------
---------

The angel is now bolted via magic to Fang's unused bunk. Councilor Tae Wong is actively maintaining a spell preventing the angel from channeling mana. Difficult to use during battle, but easy in the situation in which he's been overpowered.

You've just finished explaining what happened to Fang. Yong Xu and Adavan stand near the door, a rear guard in case of the unexpected. Adavan is half in the hallway, keeping an eye out for passers-by.

"So," Fang says to the angel. "Care to explain who you are, and what you're doing here?"

The angel spits on Fang's robes.

Fang sighs. A spark of spirit magic removes the offending excretion from his clothes. He sits down opposite the angel. "What is your purpose?"

"I was told what to do," the angel says. "I don't know anything. And if I did, I wouldn't tell you, lich!"

"Angels aren't supposed to condone the use of blood magic."

The angel's expression is haughty, but he keeps his lips shut.

What do you do?

You decide to hang back.

<We have company,> Adavan says to you, avoiding including the angel.

<Who?> Xu asks.

<Auriel.>

<...slow her down for about a minute, then let her in,> Fang tells Adavan.

Adavan's mouth opens, as if hesitating, and then he nods. <Understood.> He slips around the corner.

"You're stupid, but stubborn," Fang says. "I want you to consider one more time who it is exactly that's sitting in front of you, and then I want you to consider my question. Who sent you, and why?"

The angel says nothing.

Fang sighs. "If you insist."

His hand goes inside his robes. Yong Xu's eyes widen; he leans forward. Tae Wong tenses. You feel more nervous than the angel looks. What does Fang have up his sleeve?

He withdraws a small wooden box. It looks like something a single piece of jewelry would sit in. A small metal hinge tells you it can snap open. It doesn't feel like anything. no magic, no Spirit. Nothing.

Xu withdraws, pressing his back against the wall. He's staring at the box. "Archmage..."

The angel looks at the councilor, then at Fang, then at the box. He frowns. "You won't fool me with the act. It doesn't - "

Fang opens the box.

>>
A sound fills the room. It's not even a sound. It's like notes that crawl across your skin, music that tastes like rotting flesh, a shriek that sends daggers in your ears and scrapes out a piece of your mind. Behind it are screams, screams, ten, twenty, too many to count, human voices, ugly, tortured cries for mercy, a chorus of men and women. And there's something else, too, something beneath them, something that isn't human, shouting, the base of the chorus, laughing, toying with them -

Fang shuts the box.

Xu holds his arms against his chest. Wong slowly exhales. You shake yourself. It feels like waking up from a nightmare.

Fang lets his hand drop from the box, and it stays in the air between him and the angel, hovering at eye level. Fang looks at him. "If you answer my questions, you will be spared. If you don't, your soul will go in the box."

The angel whimpers.

"You don't want to go in the box, do you?"

Auriel strides into the room, Adavan nipping at her heels. "What the hell was that? John, Adavan said you were attacked?"

"Auriel - Highest!" The angel throws himself forward, pulling against his restraints. "They're madmen, all of them! Please, help me!"

"Nothing at all, Highest," Fang says to Auriel. "Just a little motivational training."

Auriel looks at the wooden box. "What's in that thing?"

"Nothing you need to concern yourself with."

Auriel looks at the angel. "I know your face. One of the elite guard."

"Yes." The angel nods rapidly, relieved to be recognized. "Yes, that's me. Please, Highest, I - "

"Did you attack John?"

"Well - "

"Did you attack him, or not? I cannot save you if you aren't honest with me."

"...yes," the angel says quietly.

"On who's orders?"

Fang snatches up the box and makes for the angel. "I've had enough of this farce. Let's just be done with it." His hands inch toward the hinge. "Sandalphon won't miss one of his lowly guardsmen." The angel crawls back in horror, as far as his bonds will let him. Fang looms over him, smiling his evil smile. "Once you're in there, be sure to tell the - "

"Fang!" Auriel says. She cuts between the Archmage and the guard, pushing him back slightly. Fang allows himself to be brushed aside.

She kneels next to the angel and puts a hand on his arm. "...look. You're a good man. A soldier of the ring city. But you attacked them. By the time I tried to get help...you'd be gone." The angel looks like he's about to break down. His eyes glaze over. Auriel grabs his chin and directs his sight back on her face. "Stay focused. I'll help you, but you need to help me. Who's orders?"

"...the Most High."

"He had to have known you wouldn't have been successful."

"...he...as a distraction."

"From what?"

The guard's lips shrivel up. He just shakes his head.

Auriel leans in next to him. "Just whisper it. Just me. You can trust me with it."

The angel whispers in that strange language of light you remember Auriel using so long ago. It seems garbled and incomprehensible to you.

Auriel stands up. Her hands clench into fists. She looks at Fang. "Put him in that fucking thing if you want, I don't care. John, we need to go, now!"

"What?!" the angel says. "But you said - "

"You're lucky I don't kill you myself!" she shouts.

"What's happening?"

"They're going after Donovan. This was all just a distraction!"

It's not ENTIRELY unreasonable to expect that one of the "turncoat" angels was a quick thinker and stuck around specifically to embed themselves as a sleeper agent.

They'd have to be Matthel-level indoctrinated to not slowly come around over the course of months of peaceful nationbuilding and cooperation with the 'enemy', but it's not unreasonable.

"Well, if you insist," Fang says. He opens the box and channels Spirit.

Wong releases the angel's bonds. The angel's arm is dragged toward the box's opening. He grabs his wrist with his other arm and tugs, digging in against the stone with his boots, but the box's pull is inescapable. He screams as his hand is sucked into the lid, and then his arm. He begins to bend, and his head is pulled in next, and then his body, warped and sucked into the wood until he's gone.

Fang shuts the box. "Let's get going."

The fact that it's running circuits might actually make it easier to search for, since they can see from a distance that the trail of the parasite is changing trajectory and can attempt to intercept it based on its projected future location.

...wait, shit. This actually works the other way around also. Once we get to Donovan, we can look at the trail of the parasite and trace it back to the "secret" location they relocated the SIGIL to.

They need Donovan to finish the summoning anyway, but I guess that means it's double-important they find out where he is.

So it looks like we're Air Shadow lifting everyone to go do... something.
>>
>>30473805
Fuck. We should have reset the teleport anchor to Nemesis.
>>
>>30473777
thank you, that was bothering me
do we have any immediate way to either locate them or communicate with them
>knowing Steward a long range communicator doesn't sound to farfetched
>>
>>30473821
Have a think about that for a longer moment, anon.
>>
>>30473821
We considered this the moment we came across the airship, but it doesn't work. Portal coordinates are spatially locked, so if we anchored on the ship and the ship moved, we'd open a portal in midair.
>>
>>30473821
Wouldn't work. It anchors to the coordinate. We'd just port to some random spot in the air after it moved.
>>
>>30473791
edgy
also
>don't lose your way
Why aren't we destroying the world yet?
>>
>>30473837
>>30473841
Right. Crap, forgot about that.
>>
>>30473847
Dude, cool your tits. I haven't even watched KLK. I just like the song is all.

>do we have any immediate way to either locate them or communicate with them

Adavan and Hamil have a communication link set up from when Adavan was coordinating the alliance gathering between the several countries. That's the fasted method to find out what's up with them, as Hamil is on the ship with Donovan.

Dude, cool your tits. I haven't either, I just like frustrating people on the internet.

I just had an idea

>Get to Flint
>Stash him in the Hecate room, it was made to withstand attacks from Elemental Lords
>Shapeshift to look like Flint
>Have Fang do that trick to make us look like Flint to magical means of detection
>Pretend to get captured or hand ourselves over for the good of Venia or something
>They take us to the sigil
>We fuck it up
>>
>>30473954
That sounds like a recipe for disaster, anon.
>>
>>30473954
Or we just stash him in the Hecate room and in 3 days she removes the Shel'kath and the sigil is ruined anyway.
>>
>>30474007
Hmm, possibly. We don't know enough about the magic leech thing, for all we know removing it is what they need to sacrifice someone else to complete the spell.
>>
>>30473601
We ARE one of those. Now we just need to figure out a way to open our 'mouth' and let everything we've Consumed shriek at our foes to break them.
